Scientists at UC Riverside have demonstrated a new, RNA-based vaccine strategy that is effective against any strain of a virus and can be used safely even by babies or the immunocompromised.  Their flu vaccine will also likely be delivered in the form of a spray, as many people have an aversion to needles. “Respiratory infections move through the nose, so a spray might be an easier delivery system,” Hai said. Additionally, the researchers say there is little chance of a virus mutating to avoid this vaccination strategy. “Viruses may mutate in regions not targeted by traditional vaccines. However, we are targeting their whole genome with thousands of small RNAs. They cannot escape this,” Hai said. Ultimately, the researchers believe they can ‘cut and paste’ this strategy to make a one-and-done vaccine for any number of viruses. “There are several well-known human pathogens; dengue, SARS, COVID. They all have similar viral functions,” Ding said. “This should be applicable to these viruses in an easy transfer of knowledge.”
Vaccine breakthrough means no more chasing strains
This is HUGE. This will fundamentally change how we get inoculated.

Solving the Todd Anderson Hair Colour Debate
Is he Blond? Is he Brunet? well check this out
Tumblr media
At first glance, he seems pretty brunet. But then compare that to someone we know is a blonde, Taylor Swift (in similar albeit not identical lighting)
Tumblr media
Yeah colour theory is a bitch and blondes almost always are just different shades of brown.
But to remove lighting from the equation, what we can do is compare Todd's hair to other characters in the movie, in the same setting. For example, Neil's hair, which we know for sure is brunet, comes off as almost black when swatched.
Tumblr media
So we know that the setting will darken the hair, and we can assume Todd's hair is actually a few shades lighter than how we're seeing it.
That doesn't get him all the way blond, but I'd consider it a dirty blonde. Combine that with the fact that Ethan was 18 (?) at the time of filming, and here's him four years before
Tumblr media
undoubtedly blonde.
Conclusion:
Todd was blond as a kid and is starting to grow out of it. Which mean that even though his hair is getting darker, it still has a greenish undertone that makes it appear blonder in bright lighting.
The undertone is responsible for the confusion here, as some people see it and register it as blond and others don't see it, so they see him as brunet.
For the sake of it, the "answer" would be that he has dirty blonde hair, (blonde hair which has since darkened) rather than just brown hair outright.

So that question about the boys having dry ice in their shirts-
It'll have to depend what material their 'skin' is made out of and what temperature can their touch sensors can withstand.
Dry ice has a temperature of -79°C / -109°F, and let's assume that this is happening in a room, where the temperature is 25°C / 77°F
If the boys' skin is made out of metal, well they wouldn't be able to withstand more than 20 seconds if I'm pushing it. Metal has a high thermal conductivity and would break the sensors (most sensors can withstand, at the lowest temperature, 0°C / 32°F)
If the 'skin' is silicone (I'm going to guess liquid silicone, which has a high electrical conductivity, allowing for use of touchscreens), I would bet that the dry ice would 'melt' (it sublimates) first before they would feel anything. Silicone is a poor conductor of heat, hence why they wouldn't feel much. However, there'll be a new issue of the silicone reaching its glass transition stage (a temperature where the material turns from malleable to brittle), which is around -70 °C / -94°F to -110°C / -166°F, meaning it might crack instead.
All this said however, if its a prank where people throw ice into the back of people's shirts (dont FUCKING do this with dry ice, you'll burn the skin off), I doubt it'll do much since the dry ice would be at max, like the size of a pebble.
Apologies for the rant! I went to research it-
Yeah, Mr. White! Yeah, SCIENCE!

One disaster in a clustastrophe
We are shuttering laboratories, closing whole agencies, ceding leadership globally, and condemning people to poverty. Science is key to a brighter future, and we're turning off the lights

I had a professor say to me in grad school, "Taylor, you always make people laugh when you present or teach." To which I say, "That's always my goal! Why wouldn't it be your goal when getting to talk to a bunch of new friends about science?! It's fun! Let's enjoy it." I think life is just more enjoyable this way.

So for anyone out there who want to hear cool medical facts.... there’s a glycoprotein derived from vampire bat venom that is being tested for use as an anticoagulant with heart attack and stroke patients and they named it Draculin.
