Queerbaiting in tfatws. Went through tags and saw your post from April, sorry if this seems random. I agree with you 100%. Anthony & Sebastian have a very close friendship, but since they’re males, it’s more analyzed. I’ve seen women who act together with relationships like theirs, and queerbaiting isn’t brought up. As a male I’ve been asked if I’m gay for my male friends, but no one has ever asked my sister that. She cuddles on couches with them, but as soon as I hug my friend, red flags are raised. And the last thing I want to say is, You know Disney will NEVER make them gay, why did you set yourself up to be disappointed and mad when they didn’t?
hey, so as usual i'm of several minds with this.
first, yeah, nothing in tfatws was remotely close to queerbaiting, like at all. to tell you my honest opinion, the way i saw it, they were barely even friends for most the show. in episode 3 they checked in on each other a couple of times, but a simple ass "you okay?" aint affection in my eyes. that's not companionship, that's not camaraderie, it's not an example of groundbreaking male friendship, it's the bare minimum of writing. more of the same happens in episode 4. there's a shift in sam and bucky's relationship in episodes 5 and 6, like fixing the boat together or the dumb bro slap hug in the finale. but even then, i never got the sense that sam and bucky ever actually liked each other as people, only liked each other in relation to the ever present third wheel that was steve rogers. the show never let them shine in their own right, barely gave sam any bit of personality that wasn't provided by mackie himself, and never developed an actual, meaningful, and thoughtful relationship between the two leads.
the writers never stopped to ask, why do sam and bucky work well, outside of the meta real life friendship of sebastian and mackie? how do their personalities fit together? in what way does one help the other grow? how do they come out to be different from before and after their friendship? do they push each other? do they inspire one another? do they like each other's company? but no, tfatws didn't posit a single meaningful thought concerning male friendships because any bit of chemistry came from what the actors established off screen. there was no queerbaiting in tfatws because any platonic love or devotion that could even be misinterpreted as queerbaiting was never baked into the writing or direction.
and all this coming from a devout sambucky shipper.
my second opinion is this. say sam and bucky did have an actual friendship in the show. maybe they hugged, and cried in front of each other, and said platonic i love yous and allat. the only example i can think of right now is frodo and sam in lotr. if sam and bucky were like that, no, it would still not be queerbaiting. but here's the thing: there are barely any male friendships in popular media that are like this! when people say "oh boo hoo why can't y'all just let men be friends :(" i'm like where?!?!? where are these male friends on tv and movies y'all keep talking about?!?! bc all i see is a bunch of dick measuring competitions, not friendship. truth is, there is barely any actual representation of male friendships in popular media. they all hate each other!
so when people lament that oh the fangirls don't let men be friends without shipping them, bro the WRITERS don't let men be friends period. it's not the fans that are imposing toxic expectations on male relationships (in most cases, but that's another discussion), it's these giant ass corporations and mega-media conglomerates that aren't letting the reality of male friendships shine through the screen . so bc of all the internalized homophobia that is seeded into every aspect of media and entertainment, and in much more tangible ways in our laws and societal norms, now YOU as a man can't hug your friend. you can't kiss them goodbye, can't cuddle with them while watching a movie. you can't tell them i love you without using drunkenness as an excuse. can't sleep in the same bed during a sleep over. bc as soon as you do any of that, you're deemed as queer, in a derogatory way.
the next time someone says some shit about you hugging your boys, questioning your sexuality and all that nonsense, just say, "and???" get em to talk through their homophobia. BUT, also question yourself why being perceived as gay is such a bad thing, because that's internalized homophobia too. deal with that on your own time.
tldr; man idek this ask got away from me. first, there was no queerbaiting in tfatws, they would have to be at least friends first. second, the problem is society.

this post got wayyy more notes than i intended for a post phrased more as a vent than something coherent so let me say this before i see it in the notes again. especially because this post was made before uvalde but got popular after, let me try and square this away right.
this post is NOT to downplay the experiences of gun violence victims outside the US. any gun violence is horrible & so are any jokes where victims of it are the punchline, no matter where they occur.
HOWEVER, this post IS about the tons and tons of jokes i see about american school shootings. the old post where someone jokes about the british accent and some briton goes "well at least we dont have SCHOOL SHOOTINGS" or whatever the fuck it is like. guys thats not a one time thing. guys i see shit like that online all the time.
if you dont live in fear of a school shooting every day you go to school to get your government-required education, you cannot imagine the fear. if youve never been in a lockdown, real or fake, you cannot imagine the fear. if youve never texted your family a possible last "i love you, i'm sorry for [xyz]" if you've never accepted this it where i die when the door opens if you've never dealt with the grief of losing someone you know in a school shooting (or to gun violence at all) you cannot imagine it. all of that is the reality for many american KIDS AND TEENAGERS.
i know y'all hate everything american but like cmon. u can hate our politicians u can hate our laws and culture and structure i dont give a fuck. but youre taking it out on KIDS WHO DIED. BABIES. what the fuck did a bunch of kids do to you. a lot of these kids were TEN. they didnt do anything to deserve that no matter how you spin it, no matter how many "but america sucks" cards you play.
victims of gun violence & the millions of kids affected by it in the US are not your punchline. no victim should ever be a punchline. if you really fucking hate guns in america and the ONLY way you can express that is through edgy jokes, go poke fun at the NRA. even that though is like. that really aint your place if ur not american. this whole situations really not that funny. get better jokes ffs
some of yall have never had any expereinces with how scary gun violence can be and it shows. maybe instead of laughing at those of us with trauma and poking fun at those who've died you should be grateful your country has fucking laws protecting you
#gun violence tw#tobin talks#i could go into my whole spiel about dehumanisation & how tons of yall are totally falling for it#like guys i hate to break it to you but your average american isnt a fucking abombination of a human that deserves to be shot.#yeah we suck our politics suck we've done bad shit. but ESPECIALLY seeing the BRITISH try to take the moral high ground here#in regards to history and politics.... like BOY do i have some news for you about your country's past as the no. 1 colonizer!!!#america literally wouldnt exist if it wasnt for the british colonies like dude fuck off. ur literally just letting lines divide humanity#americans are not Inherently Bad. u can have ur opinions on america the country but when u start judging ppl based off where they#live. yikes. like obvs its not gonna lead to some fucking genocide or smth but as soon as the politicians got u to believe the enemy#isnt human. well they can make u do ANYTHING to that enemy. campaign against them go to war against them#laugh as their children fucking die in the place that's supposed to be safe & preparing them for the 'real world.#idk man!!! its just sooo......#i havent seen that much of it since ulvade but i also havent seen a single non-american seem to care since ulvade and its like#how long til yall go back to making jokes. we all go back to normal and yall are like oh okay ^_^ we can joke abt kids dying again <3#our normal is living in fear all the time. im excited that tomorrows my last day of school not bc im excited for less homework#but bc im excited to not worry about being SHOT every day. thats fucking horrific. im just. god yall. its really not that funny

thanks! and na i aint angry. opinions are opinions after all. but i am intrigued by how you worded it, since it sounded a bit like 'i love the start of P5 but it goes downhill from there'. is that true or am I misinterpreting it? (i say i'm intrigued because of how much praise and popularity P5 has already; its like that meme 'friendship ended with P4 P5 is my new bud' or however it goes, and I know how much ya love P4)
Np!
Ahhhhh yeah………. you aren’t misinterpreting anything….. anyways under the cut cause it gets long. 8U And also negative (but no spoilers promise)
Ok so…..first off this isn’t because I’m “blinded by my love for P4,” I actually thought I’d love this even more than P4 (tbh it’s like tied right now, but because I like it for different reasons), it’s something I noticed while playing the game. Ok so some of you may know that sometime when P5 first came out and I finished it….I felt like there was something off about it. And at the time all I could come up with is that it….just didn’t “flow well,” and that it had “three distinct arcs and the middle one doesn’t really match the first and third.” I just……I didn’t know how to describe it. Someone tried to point out to me “Maybe it’s cause of the Omnibus format” and haha let me tell you, I forgot this was suppose to be “omnibus” when I was playing it. Tbh it’s as omnibus and P3 and P4. I can see where each mini arc begins in P3/4/5 and when it ends and the next one begins, if that’s what they are calling “omnibus” (maybe that’s why Atlus described as “kinda like omnibus” but not completely, would’ve been hard considering the format, I think Sly Cooper and it’s chapters in each game are more like an omnibus format if you need something to compare). Anyways, yeah so it wasn’t that, it was the actual substance in the story. Of course I still couldn’t put my freaking finger on it so like a dork I’m just kept describing it as “flow” 8U And then I found someone who pointed out the flaws they saw in P5 and oh my god that was it, they put into words that I couldn’t describe. And it was actually after reading a few Japanese reviews (which they agreed with since they couldn’t put into words what they were thinking either, and decided to go to Japanese review websites to see if they could find someone who thought the same thing), they finally figured out what was bothering them.
Summarizing (well the beginning middle, I’ll just post the ending to their argument after the summary) in the most non-spoiler way possible (things in parentheses are my comments btw): “P5 peaked after the first two dungeons, and then crashed and burned in the latter half of the game (basically 3rd arc). All the antagonists after the 2nd boss are cartoon caricatures (I wouldn’t say all but yeah most of them). A very important and very thought provoking ethical question is raised after the 2nd dungeon and NOTHING IS DONE WITH IT (actually there are a few ethical questions raised and nothing is done with them, but this specific one takes the cake). Lastly, by the time you get to the last chapter I (the writer) had lost whatever grasp he had on an actual theme or message of the game (they describe P3’s theme, and even P4’s multiple themes and man P4 really juggled a lot of themes).”
Actually here’s what more they have to say on the P5 theme thing, I’ll edit out the spoilers but really I can’t summarize it: “When I look at the the ending of P5, what is it really trying ot say? The guiding idea is "Push back against the status quo, the corruptions and the powers that be, don’t give up”. *something spoilerish in game happens that kind of supports this buuuuut* But unlike P3/P4 there was no real soul searching to get there. At one point in the story, they were merely acting, or reacting as the stakes got higher and higher. By the time they got to *insert this antagonist*, it’s clear that they put their personal interest ahead of justice and the justification for going after them (the antagonist) was iffy at best. Without really exploring the ethical ramification consequence of what they did, all I could get out of it was basically “all’s well that ends well”.And this is the problem I also saw in Social links, because the fact that the thieves can just make everyone’s problems go away just trivialized the struggles of each characters. They were entertaining but lacked the emotional weight of something like the Sun Arcana in P3, where the characters had to deal with actual consequences of his action and his life with no easy answers for them.So I guess in summary, the plot of P5 was top notch as light hearted, feel good story. It was entertaining and kept me on my toes in a way that movies like Star Wars did. But when it comes to substance and themes I found it lacking compared to P3/P4. It’s not that it needed to have tragic ending, and I think triumphant heroic ending would have worked, if it treaded deeper waters to get there.“
Wow sorry for my mess of copying that over (I put it in italics to make it easier to read but yeah sorry ;w;), but I wanted to keep it spoiler-free as possible but here’s the link if you wanna read it in all it’s endgame spoilerishness. But yeah…..what they said. The whole "peaks after first two dungeons” might account for why I don’t really like anyone beyond the 2nd dungeon (bar Haru, but tbh they didn’t do anything with her, and also bar Yusuke cause I know while he’s on my list for characters I don’t like but slkfndsl;afs;a I would never remove him from the game so that’s saying something). In arc 3’s defense I think it could’ve delivered better if arc 2 was actually up to snuff but it’s just screws the plot/story/theme/message so much that you’re wondering if you’re still playing the same game you did in the first two dungeons. A lot of people who hate P4’s plot might actually get a headache over how convoluted P5’s is, it’s almost like they wanted to take P3’s plot but make it bigger but they didn’t know how and were juggling too many things. Also after reading this review I actually started drawing story parallels between P5 and Ultimax (and I know how much y'all hate Ultimax’s writing so haha that’s not a good sign when I find parallels between the two). The difference between P5 and Ultimax is that while Ultimax got screwed in the writing department, I could still see what the plot was actually going for. I knew what they were trying to convey, but with P5? I think I did, I think we all have a grasp of what they were going for, but by the time I got to the end it felt really muddled and lost that…..it turns out I don’t know what they were trying to say. I woke up, I got up, and I got out there but now….I’m kind of lost tbh.
#persona 5#p5#anon#silly asks#silly answers#please no hate my anxiety levels are already threw the roof for publishing this already

Did your caption get deleted from my blog?
When I have a computer I will give this post it's own section on my tumblr.
I haven't been on tumblr for a year or two and when I came back on I have joined a different community and lost my old blog. This new community seems to have this extremely weird fixation with having the caption underneath a photo to remain through all reblogs. This was not a thing the last I was on tumblr.
I would like to state first and foremost that only two people have contacted me being upset about this. EACH of those two people made NO effort to ask the caption be returned, made NO effort to ask why, and made NO allowance for me to respond back before blocking me. THIS IS NO WAY TO GET WHAT YOU WANT!?
Not only did I learn this action from tumblr, but in my opinion, I hold legitimate reason for doing so. That of which I may explain later, if I decide these psychos deserve an explanation.
Seriously, what the actual fuck? Why the actual fuck is this a fucking issue? Like what? People have blacklists for this shit are you SERIOUS lmfao? Whaaaaat!? I honestly think its kind of funny but I'm also really fucking annoyed lmfao.
I didn't even know this was apparently wrong lmfao? Everyone wants to attack you rather than ask or explain lmfao. Psychopaths!
*I also believe in anarchy, so any form of trying to penalize me for this rather than just ASKING me to do what you needed is going to make me intentionally not do it that much more, so please keep in mind that its your own rudeness preventing things like this from being resolved. Ask nicely and I just may*
Moving forward, though. So there is this LOVELY thing on tumblr called a "source." The source option on a photo allows you to link your tumblr blog to the photo in a way where your URL becomes a clickable link underneath the photo, as well as the photo itself also becomes a clickable link back to your own tumblr. This feature was designed so that in the event a caption is removed, your credit of the photo will always remain. There is also a second option, more reliable, as a source can be changed. That would be to watermark your photo. Watermarking your photo means editing it so that the URL of your profile is listed on the photo itself, in the event that the photo is reposted, source is changed, etc. These two options alone should be enough in most cases to have your photo credited. That being said, this is still the internet, you post your personal photos you will always risk them being stolen, unfortunately.
Contrary to that, I DO understand that in some cases a photo may need multiple forms of credit, or a caption necessary to further explain a photo, etc etc. There are times where a caption may feel kind of necessary.
That being said, I DONT feel it necessary to leave captions such as "i love this wig," "got weed?," "Come smoke with me," "this is cute," etc. etc. etc. At no point is any of that necessary to credit your photo, in which case it isnt necessary for me to reblog that with it.
Which brings me back to, why the actual fuck is that so damn important to some people? Like man, talk about letting little things bother you.... I am beside myself that people get that worked up about it. Sorrynotsorry I didn't care what you personally thought of the damn picture? I do leave credit for photos necessary as well as couldn't give a shit less if someone deleted one of my captions. Lol. I don't even watermark my photos. I honestly don't care. Someone deleting the caption on my photo would be the most meaningless thing that could ever happen to me.
Another thing I am confused about: I have only ever experienced this in the tumblr-stoner community? The one fucking group of people thats supposed to be chill as fuck? Like what? Y'all angry as hell lol take a fuckin dab or meditate or something cuz y'all need to chill the fuck out. I'll tell ya the real-life-stoner community is a wholllllle lot more laid back than the tumblr-stoner community. I really dont get it. Yall just chill. Its not that big of a deal I swear.
Mind you, I am a professional photographer with almost a decade of experience. I DO understand crediting photos. Truly, in so many ways, I do. However, I don't get why its so important that everyone knows you thought that tree looks cool. Especially with how many other reblogs have the caption. And one not bothers the hell out of y'all? I literally have 40 followers and I've used this account for like two months lmfao relax. You arent missing anything. I get stoked when someone reblogs a post from me. Like me deleting it has no affect aint nobody even finna see it lmao. Because my ONLY assumption is that you are super desperate for followers and likes [popularity] so that you must be super extra sure that everyone knows you posted that photo? Literally my only guess. Why else could it bother someone SO much?
Okay I GUESS. so why do I delete captions? Literally because I run a themed quality blog and it deminishes the quality of your overall blog to have text posts. I really dont wanna give away everything I do to make my blog look pretty but that and strictly high resolution photos. Its like my two biggest things in running my blog. I cant even begin to say how much sometimes I REALLY wanted to reblog a photo and didnt because it just wasn't sharp enough. It is what it is for me. Sometimes I cant even do what Id like just to uphold it. If you find that untrue look at my blog. To the very beginning. No text posts anywhere (well, rarely), but every source remains. I have EVEN gone out of my way to find original posters when I see someone has stolen their photo, so I can reblog from the original post. I cant tell y'all how many blogs I follow that repost y'alls photos. And yet I get attacked for deleting "look how pretty the shatter is" when theres a blog who didnt just delete your caption, but took away your source AND put their own caption. Lol. To be honest its such olllllllddd news to delete text posts and its sad I even have to explain this to the new generation of babyboomers on tumblr.
Stop ruining tumblr and being hateful.
This whole website is supposed to be a loving home for the land of misfit toys. Not have blacklists where you spam people with hate and blocks over the most petty bullshit? Especially when you never asked to resolve the issue in the first place and only attacked the person. That makes YOU the asshole, not me.
ANYWAY, so how can we resolve this? Well, if you, for some reason, need a caption returned that you feel had credit to it, message me without blocking me immediately after, so I can know which photo. It literally would take me a few seconds to remove the old photo and reblog it again. All you had to do was ask!
