Because Xue Shu is hellbent on marrying her cousin, it's time for a family tree.

So Xie Wei is actually Xue Dingfei.

His mother is Yan Min, sister of Yan Mu. She was the official wife.

It means Yan Mu is Xie Wei's maternal uncle.

So Yan Mu' son is Xie Wei's maternal cousin : Yan Lin.

Xie Wei's father is Duke Xue Yuan, who is the brother of the Queen Mother.

It means the children of Duke Xue are Xie Wei's half siblings : Xue Shu, Xue Ye.

It also means the Queen Mother is Xie Wei's paternal aunt.

The children of Queen Mother Xue are Xie Wei's paternal cousins : the king (= Shen Kang), the prince Lin Zi (= Shen Jie), the princess Zi Yi (= Shen Zhi Yi).

SO it also means the other children of Duke Xue (Xue Shu, Xue Ye) and the royal siblings (the king, the prince, the princess) are cousins.

SO it means that bitch Xue Shu wanted to marry her cousin prince Lin Zi and is now the consort of her other cousin king Shen Kang (while plotting to have his unborn child killed, her own second cousin).

On a side note, we also know Xue Shu was concieved out of wedlock since her father was cheating on his wife (Yan Min), mother of Dingfei/Xie Wei, and Xue Shu was conceived two months before Duke Xue took his mistress as concubine (or was she already his concubine and it was 2 months before taking her as his official wife?).

Xie Wei's father and aunt (the Xue) tried to destroyed the family of Xie Wei's mother and uncle (the Yan), while he tries to avenge himself, his mother and, it seems, the 300 killed children by destroying the Xue's clan. We love him for this.

Now for the Jiang Sisters :

Xue Ning is actually the only daughter/child by blood of the Jiang. Her sister Jiang Xue Hui is officially the eldest daughter but she is not of the blood : she is the daughter of a maid who switched the babies and was kicked out.

While I'm at it, why are you named Xue Ning ? It creates confusion with the Xue clan!

So in her first life Ning was married to Lin Zi, who also had for concubine his cousin Xue Shu.

Ning also slept with Xie Wei, who is Lin Zi's cousin and Xue Shu's half-brother.

And she had a thing with Yan Lin, which layer turned into (for what I understood) r*pe. Yan Lin is Xie Wei's cousin.

So she had ties to both of Xie Wei's cousins.

And in this second life she almost got engaged to Yan Lin who loves her, but she will end up with Yan Lin's cousin Xie Wei.

Now, Xie Wei and Ning are endgame. It's a happy end and they got married. Now, what do we have ?

Xie Wei's maternal cousin (Yan Lin) is in love with Ning.

Xie Wei's paternal cousin (princess Zi Yi) is in love with Ning.

Xie Wei's paternal cousin (the king) and Xie Wei's half-sister Xue Shu are kinda-married

Xie Wei's paternal cousin (prince Lin Zi) and Ning's sister (Jiang Xue Hui) are in love.

So most of them are family by blood-ties or marriage, most of which gravitates around Xie Wei.

I found out a curious little thing;

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the 16 personalisty types; I've came across this concept a few years ago, and since then one of the ways to kill my time was looking up book/TV/movie characters and making a list of characters that have the same personality typa as me, which of them have the same type as my family members, which of them have the same type as my frineds...

And of course I looked up MXTX characters as well. (For example I found out that I have the same personality type as Xie Lian (I swear I would never expect such a blessing/honor, I've never had the same personality type as the main character until now), and what I found most interesting was, that while my father has the same personality type as Jiang Fengmian, my mom share the personality type with Yu Ziyuan (& Jiang Cheng & Nie Mingjue)... (...and then there's also my ex, who's Bai Wuxiang, lol 😅😭)

(Please note that the fact that these chracters share a personality type doesn't mean that their personalities are exactly the same)

And yes, the similarities in personality are extremely visible, especially with my mom... I don't know whether I should laugh or cry 😅 ...I certainly find it quite interesting tho

Hi, silvy! It was really nice to read chapter 38 and re-read all other chapters❤️❤️❤️

There is one question which I still cannot answer by myself, it is about the way how Song Lan‘s body works. As far as we know he doesn’t need any food or water to function, but his body does have some fluids (like blood, because xy saw him blushing) and he loses some of them too(he can come and cry, if I’m not missing something). How does he regenerate them? For the living person it is a hop of metabolism, but how does not he get dehydrated?

I guess it is not so important in the cultivation world since they definitely can regenerate wounds with their zi, but it is still a wert curious subject for me 🤔🤔🤔

Okay. Hm. 🤔

So, this whole area hovers somewhere right in between obsessive nitpicking and extremely vague hand-waving.

The short and easy answer is that as a fierce corpse, he runs on 99% resentment, and as being a fierce corpse, it mostly replenishes itself, even though he isn't at all as resentful as a person anymore (or at least able to keep the destructive energies inside him balanced and under control, thanks to the mala). When he's really exerted himself, though, he may need it topped up from outside sources, like when Xue Yang poured the excess demonic energy from the zombies at the plague graveyard into him.

Fighting monsters and passing by graveyards, old battlefields and other areas teeming with resentment will also resonate with his own energies, strengthening them without him even being aware.

But his body was also the main guinea pig for Xue Yang's experiments with the spells collected to revive Xiao Xingchen - spells to preserve everything human about him, making his resurrected form as un-fierce-corpsy as possible. They were successful, to an extent - Song Lan is the most alive fierce corpse in existence, even compared to other high level fierce corpses like Wen Ning. We do see Song Lan cry at the end of the Yi City arc, for example, something Wen Ning said outright he can't do.

(Not saying Xue Yang is necessarily better at making fierce corpses than Wei Wuxian is Xue Yang would absolutely claim so, though but he had 8 years to work on Song Lan, who was half-fierce corpse even at the moment of his death. Wei Wuxian was on the clock to patch together a long dead Wen Ning from scratch in a cave.)

There are limitations, though - Song Lan was never experimented on to be made particularly alive-passing himself, those trials were a means to an end to make Xiao Xingchen perfect. So he's a walking patchwork, stuck in between.

Because he is still semi-alive, there is also a faint flow of living qi in his meridians, but it doesn't replenish as easily and naturally as it would in something truly living, and it's much, much weaker than it was when he was alive. Because of it, however, and because of the hun souls still bound in his flesh, he can still use his spiritual sword, use cultivation techniques to an extent, though he can't do all the things he was once able to.

It all adds up to a body that mostly passes for alive - he's not particularly pale, no corpse veins or black eyes (unless he goes feral with fury, lets all the resentment loose, running visible right under the surface). He can cry. He can bleed, to an extent, and yes, come. He has fallen back into the habit of breathing, he can sleep when he allows himself to relax and let go of his control enough. He can consume food and drink, but not digest it as a living human would - he is still a creature of resentment, and those energies are what absorb anything he puts into his body.

If you think about him as a machine, his body is frozen the way it was in his moment of death, with that amount of blood and other bodily fluids, that age and stature, the physical looks, the muscle mass, the marks on his chest and back where Shuanghua pierced him and finally took his living life away - something between scars and wounds woven together by resentment. It is the blueprint state his body constantly strives to remain in/return to. And the resentment inside him is the perpetual fuel for that process.

Energy = mass and so on. When he loses blood, or weeps, or when he gets hurt, the demonic energies inside him will regenerate his body and all systems within it to return him to that state of equilibrium.

Pretty much.

So like I said at the start, there is a certain logic and consequent approach to how I think of it all - even if parts of it hinge on me waving my fingers a bit and mumbling "resentment did it"! 😂

I hope this is a somewhat satisfactory answer to your question! Thank you so much - it was a really good one, and allowed me to ramble for a good long while about some of the behind the scenes-mechanics! ♥♥♥
