Daniel Grimaldi: Actor, Scholar & Scientist
Daniel Grimaldi was born in 1946 and is an American actor and mathematics professor who is best known for his roles as twins Philly and Patsy Parisi on the award winning HBO television series The Sopranos.
While researching this piece, I wasn’t sure if all the dates synched up over on the Forever Fordham site? If what I read was true, he started Fordham at an age when most of us were sophomores in high school.
Entered Fordham University at 16 Years of Age
“I attended Xaverian High School in Brooklyn.” The obviously very bright, ambitious powerhouse explained, “I was sixteen when I graduated. I received several scholarships
(including) a full one to Fordham. Many of my classmates were going.”
He was a Screen Actors Guild award winner, in 2008, for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for The Sopranos. He opened up about his college experiences at the Rose Hill Bronx campus by saying: “I commuted by train. One hour and forty five minutes each way. In my sophomore and junior year a friend drove. But often I would have to take the train because our schedules did not jell. In senior year I used my father's car,” added the 5 foot-4 inch dedicated alumni. “My family couldn't afford the room & board. One of the few regrets I have in life is not living on campus.”
Don’t Go In The House!
His first break came in 1979 as the star of the above titled independent horror film. It is described as “A young man who was driven mad by the death of his abusive mother now stalks young women with a flamethrower.”
Note: I’ve watched, and yes it is as nasty as it sounds. If you are interested, here is the YouTube link-be careful: r. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kxmz1vjCOk4&t=6s
Bell Laboratories Scientist
Doctor Daniel Grimaldi went on to complete a Master of Science in Operations Research from NYU and a PhD in Data Processing from City University of New York. That early IMDb.com credit above was in 1979. It sounded like those 13 years between might have been filled with working on your Master's degree and PhD? Turns out there was more to his development before being bit-by-the-acting-bug.
“Acting was not a thought. It just popped into my mind when I worked at Bell Labs as a member of technical staff in computer graphics.” I looked up archived copies of the University newspapers (The Ram) and did NOT see any productions that mentioned his name. It turns out he didn’t perform in any collegiate shows/plays. He added, “I went to study with Lee Strasberg (starting) in 1970.”

(aveleyman.com)
Let’s Get To The Quote: “It won’t be cinematic.”
For those who haven’t seen the episode, on The Sopranos, from all those years ago-let me set the scene. New Jersey Mob Boss Tony Soprano has one of his many adulterous love affairs. This time he meets Gloria. Who is pretty, a successful Mercedes Car sales rep and a bit of a world traveler. The two meet in the waiting of the mutual psychiatrist, accidentally due to a scheduling mix-up. After a point, Tony wants to end it. Gloria not only wants to be part of the gangster’s life she even goes so far as to make contact with his wife. (Oh girlfriend, you can do so much better.)
He sends Patsy Parisi, our boy Dan-Class of ‘66-to scare her away while ostensibly test driving a car. Away from the protection of her suburban New Jersey dealership, he pulls over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GCQnTPF4_o
Note: Between now and posting of this article I can’t afford to have YouTube delete this one. So, basically he pulls out a gun and points it at her. Warns her to distance herself from Soprano and his family or she will be dead; by his hand. No ancient Greek tragedy or retired NFL Quarterback stuff for her to go on to the next world on.
Got To Have A Side-Hustle
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/db84899b89c5308f308332c529154f61/4865702b2e568b84-19/s540x810/7552d08fc42ed0239a59534a4546568811930366.jpg)
I didn’t get a definitive answer, from the Assistant Professor Mathematics & Computer Science at Kingsborough Community College, in Brooklyn, when I asked if “It Won’t Be Cinematic”will be on your tombstone? But I did get a smile.
Can We Make It A Point to Carry His Name Forward?
Here is a post from the 78 year old Fordham Alumni; His request on the Instagram Account where you can follow him too.

Awe and Wonder
A great day of basketball sprinkled with a dose of anxiety. #Project365
I’d like to think, deep down, my ability as a broadcaster means that I belong in any arena. And yet… I was asked to call two games today at the Public vs. Catholic Hoop Showdown at Westchester County Center in White Plains. There were four games total but I was on for the matchup between Scarsdale and Xaverian as well as James Monrow versus Christ the King. What pleased me — really, really,…

Also mach weiter. Pater Angelo

🏒 Reading's Whirlwind Season Comes to an End
Earlier today, Reading Memorial lost a hard fought battle against the Xaverian Brothers that needed to go into overtime to see the winner moving on to the TD Garden vs Pope Francis. Xaverian Brothers came out flying in the first period but Reading weathered the storm and eventually ended up with more shots on goal throughout the 3rd period. In the closing minutes of the 3rd period, the Rockets…

Just for the record: JMac had 577 games under his belt before he had the stroke.
…. Oh, yeah, um. Soooo yeah, he had a TIA that ended his career. In case you’re new or new-ish, you may be interested to know the following lore about JMac:
He attended St John's Prep for high school which is “A Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12" (so yeah he's super Irish Diaspora Catholic) and was the captain of both the hockey and football teams his senior year. The school added him to their Hall of Fame in 2014 and there's a video of his speech accepting that honor HERE (skip to 1:08:00)
He played at Boston University for 4 years, graduating in 2009 with a degree in Economics and as a member of the Scarlet Key Honor Society. He also won the John B Simpson award, and was on the Hockey East All Academic Team for 3 years. He wore the C his senior year and led the Terriers to a victory in the Beanpot (photo with trophy) and winning the freaking Natty in the most epic and dramatic way possible - and seriously, go watch that it's an incredible 6 minues wtih an epic comeback and overtime win. (photo with trophy team photo with the trophy and photo at the parade please look at what a baby he was). Also, guys, he played with David Warsofsky who is, in fact, Ryan Warsofsky's younger brother.
Was drafted by the Sharks at the 2006 draft in the 7th round, 202nd overall. That was the same draft class as Brad Marchand, Claude Giroux, James Reimer, Phill Kessel, and Erik Johnson. Played 88 games with the Sharks between 2009 and 2015.
Played for Team USA at the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang. They finished 4th behind the Russians, Germans, and losing Bronze to Canada. Fuckin' Canada, I swear to god. At least the US Women's team beat Canada and got gold that year (it was a fucking awesome game, you should go watch it.) Anyway, there's a cute lil article/interview about him going from his high school's newspaper over HERE.
Played 577 games in the AHL, all but 25 of them with the Sharks' affiliate. Wore the C in 2012-2013 for the Worcester Sharks and then for the San Jose Barracuda from 2016 to 2020 and had 233 penalty minutes. If you wanna see his fights you can find those HERE.
It's completely wild to me but he played on the same team as Timo Meier, Barclay Goodrow, Kevin Labanc, and Jake Middleton. Actually he played with Middsy for, like, 5 years. Like, he was their captain.
YOU GUYS, HE PLAYED WITH AARON DELL FOR NOT ONE BUT TWO SEASONS
Also, I cannot emphasize this enough: go look at the 19-20 roster. Yeah. It's so weird to look at the guys on that team and realize that he played with them and coached them that year BECAUSE:
He had a transient ischemic attack (aka a TIA, basically a stroke) on December 10th, 2019 at the age of 33. He played his last game on December somethingth, officially retired from hockey on December 27th, and was hired as an Assistant Coach the next day. HERE is an article/interview about it in (once again, his high school paper). HERE is the highlight video that the Cuda made for him. Oh, and he obviously won the Fred T Hunt Memorial Award that year.
also, he volunteered for an ALS fundraiser for, like, 6 years and I think that's nifty.
Thank you for coming to my presentation on John McCarthy, head coach of the San Jose Barracuda since May 18 2022 when he succeeded Roy Sommer to the throne i mean position (Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!)
I appreciate your time as I may have gotten a little bit carried away. Whoops. >.>
nolly just said poturalski is after this game 5 games short of 500 games in the AHL which is. insane. can we all appreciate that, that's an insane number of games to play in the ahl and not had to have every tooth in your mouth replaced. anyway i got curious who has the most games played in the ahl as an active player and it's cal o'reilly of the milwaukee admirals with 976. NINE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-SIX. i guess now with our beloathed flohockey i could see if the man still has kneecaps or teeth. 976 games in the ahl is unreal.
also in the top 100 list of games played is former barracuda captain andrew agozzino 🥰🥰 760 games! no wonder he was done with the cuda after one season. i wouldn't have any patience left for jmac if i'd played upwards of 600 ahl games at that point in my career either.
#uh sorry about taking over your post Kasper#i promise you it will probably happen again so sorry about that in advance#anyway how the hell do i title this?#john mccarthy#san jose barracuda#sjb lb#cuda lb#(sorry)#baby sharks#but mother i love them#oh shit it's 5:15 and I gotta be up at 11:30#WHOOPSIE
