Chapter 16: I’m full of rage b/c of this stupid stupid stupid character. I’m gonna fist fight a fictional character. Right now.

- Dain Aetos has had me in a rage since start. He’s going to be the reason she gets hurt. Cannot change my mind on that.

Sobbing because Violet was willing to die for Xaden, even before she knew he loved her back.

In the interrogation chamber beneath Basgiath, Violet refused to talk, even when Varrish hurt her over and over again, purely out of her love for Xaden. She said herself in this scene that she thought Xaden would never put her before the revolution, and yet she was still willing to die down there to protect his secrets.

This is so heartbreaking to think about, especially after the previous scene when Violet had come to terms with the fact that Xaden might never be able to love her back. “I know he cares about me. Maybe it isn’t love. Maybe after all he’s been through, he isn’t capable of that emotion.”

We talk all the time about how Xaden loves Violet with everything he is, but don’t you dare say it doesn’t go both ways. Violet loves Xaden unconditionally, “the good, the bad and the unforgivable”, and shows this again and again in Iron Flame.

There's nothing quite as funny to me as Xaden's descriptions of Dain from his POV. Not only did we get absolute singing Xaden in the new chapter, but we got more Xaden roasting Dain for everything he's worth what a gift it was

What happened to “I could never want someone you love dead” Xaden???

Also, how he thinks about Bodhi/Liam/Garrick in comparison to Violet still sits wrong with me, I don’t like the way RY decided to write him dealing with relationships in any way, shape or form apparently.

At least I feel a little better about the way Violet is constantly sexualizing him because he’s doing the same fucking thing, but the melting when she defends him and Liam was very cute.

And him knowing there’s someone working on the inside???? And Dain being out of breath?? We know he was being indoctrinated by Aetos and then Varrish so maybe his dad asked him to leave an unsuspicious box somewhere and Dain didn’t think anything of it?

And I don’t wanna sound mean but the construction of this chapter felt like a mess, English isn’t my first language but even I could tell the writing was too rushed/unedited.

POC representaion in The Empyrean

So I was mapping out a fanfic idea and as a fantasy reader and writer, I love worldbuilding in fantasy so I was looking into tyrrish culture in the empyrean and there's basically almost nothing mentioned in the books??? (In my defense I know that this series is pretty bad in terms of fantasy, but still. The POC representation could've been so much better)

And it made me fall into a black hole of questioning. RY never mentions more about tyrs except they're POC (I'm pretty sure RY said that she wants his role for the adaptation to be open for as much diversity as possible. Which honestly just sounds wrong because for a series where culture is so important she gave us nothing). Okay, even if we accepted the diversity reason it doesn't mean that she couldn't elaborate in tyrrish culture that didn't need those aspects like magic and customs??? It's fantasy ffs.
