Lenni Reviews: "X-Men: The Manga: Remastered" Vol. 1, by Hiroshi Higuchi
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. We all know who the X-Men are and if you don’t this is not the best way to be introduced to them. This feels like a dry, soulless, shadow of the 90’s animated series. I love X-Men. The 90’s series shaped my interest in comics, manga, and animation for the rest of my life. And this is just depressing. Even in black and…

Some fun X-Men TAS News
So, does anyone remember about the official 90's X-Men manga?
It was an official adaption of the first two season of X-Men The Animated Series released in Japan during the nineties. It was later released in two volumes, one per season. The first volume/season was officially translated and released in the US in 1998. The season two adaptation was never officially released (and scans don't seem to exist online).
However......
The whole thing is being remastered, retranslated, and released by Viz media in a few months!
A new version of the previously released season one adaption will be released on November 12th.
And a never before officially seen in the west version of the season two adaption will come out on March 11th of next year.

Oh god, here we go again...
PEOPLE.
PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY MEN WHO APPARENTLY WANT TO MARRY VIDEO GAME CHILDREN -
Localization
is
not
censorship.
Censorship is, per the ACLU, "the suppression of words, images, or ideas that are 'offensive'." Is anything being suppressed here?
Per Merriam-Webster, to suppress something means
(The rest are related to the medical use of the term.)
So...
Nothing has been "suppressed." You can quite easily find the game in Japanese, or videos of it, or fan translations. Nobody has prohibited either the support from being seen, or your ability to choose to buy and play the game in Japanese. You absolutely can do that, if you choose. Worst that will happen is a customs charge. But nobody is going to seize the game and come to your front door to beat you before dragging you off to work yourself to death in a gulag. You are in no way being prevented from reading, knowing about, or playing the game in Japanese. At all.
Changing the Corrin/Soleil support in Fates?
Not censorship.
Choosing for whatever dingdong reason not to localize all of the Fates DLC?
Irritating as hell, but not censorship.
Changing some names when localizing?
Not censorship, and I honestly appreciate not having to try to keep a straight face when discussing the Wood and Nn supports in Awakening. I mean... we got the better deal there. Admit it.
Localization always changes things. Always. It has to, in order to make sense. And it should.
Who here has read the translation of Battle Royale (book, not manga)? And in particular, did you read it before the "remastered" version was released a few years ago?
It is incredibly faithful to the Japanese. Too much so. Because some parts don't make any sense at all in English. They reference phrases, ideas, and colloquialisms that do not exist in English.
A good localization finds the closest equivalency that conveys the same meaning, even if the words, reference, and origin of the phrase are totally different. If a phrase means "hope you enjoy dinner" in Language X, but if translated exactly is "the cows eat best before the full moon," that phrase likely means nothing in language Y. But Language Y has "the more you stir the pot, the better to taste the soup." And it is often said before meals that you want someone to enjoy. A-ha! Same meaning, different words. This is always, always, always how a good translation or localization works. It is not "censorship" to replace one phrase with another equivalent, it is making the damn story make sense to another audience who speaks a different language. This should happen. This does happen. This is NOT FUCKING CENSORSHIP.
Let's have some fun with this and my shit-level Italian!
I'm still trying to wrap my head around [whatever].
Direct translation, uh... Sto provando... avvolgere... in giro...mia testa?
"I'm trying to wrap around my head."
Hmmm...
"Sto provando avvolgere mia testa in giro?"
Okay, yep, we have literally, word-for-word, translated "I'm trying to wrap my head around" from English to Italian.
...Now I bother @lysissisyl.
Yeah. Direct translation is the same words, but it makes no sense. Response was, "I'm... confused." (And then I'm like, "I know I know I know, I'm not stupid, that's my point!" 🤣)
Sto cercando di capire: okay, yeah, this actually makes sense to say "I'm trying to understand," which means the same thing as the idiomatic "I'm trying to wrap my head around [whatever]."
But it's not a direct translation of the latter. Because sometimes, an exact, word-for-word translation, especially of an idiom, DOES. NOT. MAKE. SENSE.
Capeesh?
Fine. Capisce?
😜
...Still not censorship.
Localization changes may also reflect what is seen as acceptable in a certain time and place for one society versus another. For instance, some Japanese games (especially those marketed directly to children) had references to alcohol (either in picture or text) changed by Nintendo of America. Even Mario and Pokemon did this. And I know a lot of you are too young to remember the controversy over Mortal Kombat in the early 90s, but it was bonkers. Kids will start slaughtering each other in the streets unless we change the blood to green! Uh... okay, then. In that case, the change was in the Japanese release of Mortal Kombat II.
Also keep in mind this innocence-gutting, banned, civilization-altering game that was going to instantly turn little Johnny from a straight-A student who rescued baby bunnies on weekends and every night went to the local nursing home to read bedtime stories for all the residents (when he wasn't curing cancer) into Ted Bundy 2.0 with a side of Pazuzu looked like... this:
In 1992 (or anytime until the early 2000s), an argument could be made that it was censorship. It was much, much more prohibitively difficult to track down foreign copies of games then, especially before the internet, and while you might get lucky if you happened to live in San Francisco, or New York, or Paris, or wherever, if you were verge-of-evil little Johnny in Bumfuck Corntown, Iowa, good luck.
A lot of games then weren't even considered for international release. And in many cases, again, especially before the internet, how would you even know??? Consider the confusion over Final Fantasy - original release in 1987 in Japan, 1990 in the US, and everywhere else? Eh, whatever, you get nothin'. Then Japan has several more, up to Final Fantasy IV, and the US gets it as Final Fantasy II, and then Final Fantasy VI was Final Fantasy III, and when Final Fantasy VII came out, everybody and their dog was now completely confused about whatever the fuck was going on (except the Japanese, I guess). 😅 Fire Emblem was Japanese-only until Marth "just the tip" and Roy "master of gingers" got enough people interested to see a US and Europe release of... Fire Emblem VII, which had neither Marth nor Roy.
Point being: yeah, translations, graphic and text changes, and access at all were very, very different beasts up until roughly 2000-ish (probably closer to 2005, but this is getting long and I need to go wash my hair and so I'm going to keep it simple, stupid 😘).
It wasn't always "censorship," in the sense that you would be prohibited from accessing or knowing of other versions, it was simply before finding out about the changes or easily getting your hands on a foreign copy (or finding fan ROMs and translations online) were possible for a lot of people. Many probably never even knew, at the time, that weird changes had been made. (With the exception of Mortal Kombat, which led to mass slaughter on playgrounds around the world, was a gateway drug to marijuana and then prostituting yourself at 13 to buy more of the devil's lettuce, and ultimately led to the death of all 3 billion adults in the world when Little Johnny emerged from hiding with his mecha senior citizens and army of bunnies. It was a rough time. Wouldn't recommend it.)
Anyway -
Point of all this? Localization makes changes. It often has to to make sense. That's not censorship.
Adjusting dialogue or plot points to reflect what is considered acceptable in another market? Also not censorship, unless you're somehow banned from accessing foreign copies. (Which reminds me of this glorious story I read a few years ago about some British teenagers going on the run from police to watch a contraband copy of... okay, I can't remember, one of the Video Nasties, I'll try to figure what it was later. It wasn't Douglas Ralston's book, that's all I know for sure. I don't read Douglas Ralston. Like him okay even if he can make me look self-controlled at times, have had some funny chats with him, do not like his style of extreme horror.)
Basically - I do not believe in blanket censorship. I don't want to play the new, hyper-realistic Mortal Kombat with fatalities to make S. Craig Zahler flinch; I don't want to watch Terrifier 2; I don't want to read 50 Shades of Grey. But I also don't want them censored. I'm not being tied down and my eyes forcibly kept open to make me watch things, a la A Clockwork Orange (which I still wasn't allowed to watch at, like, 16 years old 🙄), and it doesn't hurt me in the slightest for Cannibal Ferox, Postal 2, or the aforementioned books by Douglas Ralston to exist.
And back to the original point - do I want to marry an 11-year-old (or promise to wait until an 11-year-old is of age so my 17-year-old character can marry her) in a video game? Not particularly. Would I not play Fire Emblem if that had remained in in foreign/English versions? Nah - it's fiction. I wouldn't want to pursue that particular S-support, and yeah, it's pretty ew, but no actual 11-year-olds were hurt by it (and Monica Rial, who voices Anna in English in Engage, is very much an adult). I was also a little squicked out by some decisions made in FE games (and other games, to be fair) in the past. It happens. (I don't care what kind of monstrous Morgan I can produce, I am not S-supporting Robin and Nah. I don't judge those who do, but I'm not comfortable with it in my games. But I also know some people found Robin S-supporting the second gen, and the whole Byleth-and-students situation, to be uncomfortable, and that's their business, because it didn't bother me in the slightest.)
To circle back around to my original point: censorship comes with a generous side helping of suppression. And that's not happening here. The controversy flaired up (just as it did in Awakening, and Fates, and...) because people have ready access to different versions of the game. Including the ability to import. Or, honestly, play with a pirated copy and a fan translation patch. 🤷♀️ Until 20-ish years ago, the majority of players wouldn't have even realized what had been done, because accessing foreign copies was difficult, expensive, and often required a broker willing to act as go-between between you and another country. Things like the Mortal Kombat situation being discussed in mainstream news was an outlier, not the norm.
This isn't censorship. In either direction, you aren't required to like it. But you also cannot just redefine terms to suit your self-appointed righteous anger. Drop it already, non rompere il cazzo... 😝

Alan Oldham Reintroduces JOHNNY GAMBIT For A New Generation (Interview)
Alan Oldham is what society now calls a multi-hyphenate, but in times past, the term was Renaissance man.
For the past three decades plus, he has been an innovative purveyor of electronic music and a comic book writer and artist extraordinaire. Oldham started his trek as an eclectic art fan during the ‘80s in his Detroit hometown. He combined his love of the German Expressionist movement in film, the clean lines of Art Deco-inspired objects and more to start writing the narrative and visuals for his characters. The first major result was his trench coat-laden hero JOHNNY GAMBIT. Oldham hit paydirt and was signed to Hot Comics out of Chicago in 1986. The company folded soon after and the character would have two more issues published in 1987-88 by Detroit’s Eclectic Press.
Oldham did not have any time to think about the next move for JOHNNY GAMBIT because he was busy creating the cover art for the first Detroit Techno releases from childhood friends like Derrick May and Juan Atkins. These same friends also supplied him with music for his influential Fast Forward radio show being broadcast on WDET. This writer remembers listening to Oldham play Detroit Techno, house music and industrial in the early morning hours as listeners would call in and get an education on the new sounds that have laid the foundation for today’s myriad of electronic artists. He also worked as a DJ for Mike Banks’ sci-fi and funk-dipped techno crew Underground Resistance. As the ‘90s moved on Oldham started making his own music and founded the Generator and Pure Sonik labels.
Today, Oldham is just as excited about creating as he was years ago. A current resident of Berlin, he still travels the world as a DJ and has had art exhibitions in several countries. He is having a rebirth of sorts with JOHNNY GAMBIT and a Kickstarter relaunch. The new graphic novel is bringing GAMBIT back with a remastered 2 CD set. I spoke with Oldham last month shortly after his set at the Charivari Music Festival in Detroit. We talked about GAMBIT, the early days of Detroit Techno, and what it is about the city that drove him to greatness among his many other career-defining moments.
“It just motivates you to push further so that’s one thing about Detroit. It’s not an easy place. No one’s going to pat you on the back and tell you good job. If anything, they will shit on you. So, it motivates you to push forward, to push internationally and outside of the city.“
How did you decide to bring Johnny Gambit back now?
I’d been working on the book for almost 15 years now. I started it in 2007 and it’s been kind of in the back of my mind to bring back JOHNNY. We did a run in the ‘80s and I didn’t get a chance to finish the original story because my publisher(s) went out of business and then time went by so I thought I’d just reboot it completely.
What was your original inspiration for the character?
Well, that’s a really good question. JOHNNY GAMBIT is basically the kitchen sink character for everything I liked at the time; Japanese animation, Japanese Manga, “Miami Vice,” “Love & Rockets,” the movie “Metropolis” by Fritz Lang, Art Deco design, prototype cars that were never made, and there was a comic back in the ‘80s called “Mister X” that was a huge influence.
I saw where Marvel later came out with the character in “Uncanny X-Men” #266.
There was a girl, well, woman now, that I met at the old Chicago Con back in ’86, and we became friends. Turns out she worked for Marvel so we stayed in touch. It turned out I was going to New York for my first visit back in ’87 and she invited me up to visit Marvel. That was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me ‘cause you got to see the real Mighty Marvel bullpen with your own two eyes. So I got to NYC, went up there and I had a bunch of my old JOHNNY GAMBIT number ones with me and she introduced me to a few of the editors like Archie Goodwin and Carl Potts, and I was just leaving my comic as a calling card.
Fast forward to 1990, I’m at Todd Johnson’s old comic shop in Ferndale, and I notice a character named Gambit with the hair to one side and a trench coat. But they gave him powers and they changed it enough so where you can’t sue them. You know how it is, they take the idea and add just enough to it so they can say hey, we came up with this on our own. But the resemblance was uncanny, no pun intended. So yeah, there’s nothing you can really do about it. At this point, it’s just an interesting story. Read more.

“ it’s because of sjw nonsense “ Absolutely. Japanese media is unafraid of fan service, whereas DC Comics and Marvel just spend their time telling the reader they should be exterminated. “ it’s honestly way easier to start reading manga because you know volume one is volume one “ Which is how comics used to be. Look at old Western comics. They were written so that you could see one at the newsagents, pick it up, read it, then give it away afterwards. People would read comics they found at a bus stop, borrow them from friends, etc. The mess of continuities etc started pretty late in the game. “ maybe it’s also super hero fatigue “ I see no evidence that exists. People are fatigued with bad stories. Movies that rely on spectacle. To the people that saw Black Widow - would you watch it again? The sales for Captain Marvel dropped off a cliff early on. But people will go back and watch the original Winter Soldier or Iron Man movies over and over. I can’t count how many times I saw X-Men 1, because it was on continuous loop at stores. People would stand watching it in stores. I saw the cartoons many times, I have seen the Justice League cartoons many times. I don’t see any reason to see Endgame again. It’s not superhero fatigue, it’s spectacle fatigue. Flashy effects and explosions are fine as a novelty. I heard people talking about Babylon-5 with excitement. It had been remastered for one of the streaming services. That is a very old show which had a niche market. So why invest all the money in fixing it up? Because it told great stories. If someone else took over DC and Marvel Comics, and just threw out all the diversity hires, and instead demanded all writing be done on the basis of merit, they would sell again. They would sell world-wide. I was listening to an interview with chinese people who were saying that the reason they liked superhero stories was that the people acted unselfishly, and that people do not act that way in china. The craving for heroes is universal and timeless. But SJWs cannot write heroic stories, they can only tear them down. They can only give us a tame Hulk, or an ugly She-Hulk. They do not understand how to entertain, and crave only endless lecturing and shaming.
People remember this scene. It was played over and over. It is one of the reasons Loki was so popular that he got his own series. But in his own series, he is castrated, he is milque-toast, because he solely exists to show how much better a woman would be in the same role. Loki was someone who could take a beating from the mightiest Avenger, and still make a quip afterwards. TV Loki can barely cope with two ordinary human guards. Loki would make the vilest insult to hurt Black Widow, TV Loki spends all his time bending the knee to his female counterpart, endlessly telling her and everyone else that she is the bestest evah, that she is “mah Queen”. TV Loki killed Loki. Because of bad writing, either due to incompetence or due to SJW mandates. Woke Loki is just pathetic. But.
Richard E. Grant in a silly outfit managed to blow everyone away with his portrayal of Old Loki.
Managed to show us that audiences are hungry for superhero stories even now. We want to see rage, we want to see strong men, we want to see calm men roar with might, we want to see them laugh at death as he comes for us ...
I remember seeing that scene and thinking “what a waste - why the hell don’t we have this guy, why don’t we have this character, why don’t we see the battle inside Loki between his wicked nature and desiring to be something more, instead of this passive little boy being led about by his “mommy-wife”?” The writing of Loki is so lazy that they even forgot who Loki was.
A frost giant. Bringer of the ice that will cover the world. Not a boy in need of a blankie.
people ask why comic sales are declining and why manga is eclipsing and while you can say it’s because of sjw nonsense or whatever it’s honestly way easier to start reading manga because you know volume one is volume one. It’s not like with comics that reboot every few years with loads of weird continuity and retcons and what not.
If comics were easier to get into than I’m sure new readership would go up but maybe it’s also super hero fatigue. Why read a comic when there’s a big budget movie adaption? Or maybe you’re just sick of men in tights n capes punching each other silly.
But if I see one more YouTube recommendation about how Japan nuked sjw marvel from orbit I’m pretending to be a lawyer and filing a copyright claim. Fuck your click bait

Top 2018 PS4 Games For Girls
I did a lot of research for this list. So the 40 2018 PS4 Games below are not ranked in any particular order.
If I had to pick a few favorites it’d be Detroit Become Human, Kingdom Hearts 3, Shenmue 3, Stein’s Gate Elite, Atelier Lydie & Suelle, Yakuza 6, Your Four Knights Princess Training Story, Shining Resonance Refrain, A Way Out, FF7, and Ni No Kuni 2.
This is not a full release list for the PS4 in 2018, but instead a collection of games I thought would appeal to other gamers such as myself based either on story, anime graphics, cuteness, or gameplay mechanics.
Leave me a comment below and let me know what games you’re looking forward to on PS4 this year!
40+ PS4 Games for Girls Releasing in 2018
1.) Moss
youtube
A virtual reality game that features a mouse who knows sign language. The environment is beautiful and the characters are adorable.
2.) Ni No Kuni 2 Revenant Kingdom
youtube
Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch is one of my favorite PS3 games. So it’s no surprise that I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel from Studio Ghibli and Level 5 on the PS4 in 2018.
3.) Red Dead Redemption 2
youtube
It’s not often that I enjoy a shooting game; however, I am quite fond of the original back on the 360. I enjoy the open world environment, myriad of quests, and choice and consequence system. The horseback riding was also fun.
4.) Detroit: Become Human
youtube
I think above any other title on my list, I’m most excited about this PS4 Exclusive from the makers of Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. It’s a story driven game where the player must make choices at various points which will fork the story down different branches resulting in different endings.
5.) Shenmue 3
youtube
Shenmue 3 broke records when it debuted on kickstarter 2 years ago. Finally the wait is over as the title will launch in mid 2018. In case you missed the first two games, rumors abound about an HD remaster that will include both Shenmue 1 and 2 also arriving on PS4 in 2018.
6.) Knights and Bikes
youtube
This quirky cute co-op game aims to recapture the feelings of childhood innocence and fun. You can explore a colorful island, fight baddies with water balloons or race your friends on your bicycles.
7.) Bloodstained Ritual of the Night
youtube
This is basically a Castlevania game, except since Kojima left Konami, he’s not allowed to use the name Castlevania anymore. I’m also digging the anime style characters as opposed to the more photo realistic characters the series has been using recently.
8.) Final Fantasy 7 Remake
youtube
The wait is almost over for the Final Fantasy Remake with new stories, new visuals, and new combat systems. This is more than just an “HD Port” this is a reworking of the game from scratch, using the same characters, world, and story, but improving upon it in many ways.
9.) The Last Of Us Part 2
youtube
This story driven post-apocalyptic action game is finally getting a sequel.
10.) Death Stranding
youtube
Kojima’s answer to Konami cancelling his Silent Hills game. It looks creepy AF. So if horror is your thing, check this one out. I’ll be picking it up but I know I won’t be able to play it alone in the dark.
11.) Beyond Good and Evil 2
youtube
Fans have been begging for this sequel for years, and now finally, the wait is almost over. This quirky series is best known for its anthropomorphic animals and charming worlds.
12.) Kingdom Hearts 3
youtube
I am currently preparing for Kingdom Hearts 3 by playing the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 HD Remix which combines like 8 of the Kingdom Hearts games. I was a big fan of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 when it first came out on PS2, and am excited to revisit the worlds of Kingdom Hearts again in KH3.
13.) Monster Hunter World
youtube
Open world RPG adventure game with huge monsters and a variety of weapons and equipment.
14.) Concrete Genie
youtube
Your graffiti creations come to life in this PS4 exclusive.
15.) Anamorphine
youtube
Another PS4 VR game. This virtual reality game puts you in the role of a young man trying to recover his memories and make sense of the world around him. The story is about his relationship and his wife’s depression.
16.) Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory
youtube
This prequel will reveal the events leading up to Digimon Cyber Sleuth as you play as Keisuke, a young man accused of a crime he didn’t commit. He must join a team of hackers to uncover the truth. Over 320 Digimon to discover.
17.) Iconoclasts
youtube
This game is full of intricate puzzles and a deeply moving story about faith, purpose, and the challenge of helping people.
18.) Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT
youtube
The characters from various final fantasy games return for this fun crossover fighting game.
19.) Past Cure
youtube
This story driven stealth game will let players use a variety of skills that blend dreams and reality as they try to help the main character master his new found powers while escaping from frightening horrors.
20.) Shadow of the Colossus
youtube
A story of a boy trying to find his lost love. Armed with only a bow and arrow you must battle fearsome giants.
21.) The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia
youtube
Based on the hit Netflix anime, this beautiful looking brawler features all of your favorite characters in a brand new storyline.
22.) Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late[ST]
youtube
This new fighting game from the creators of Melty Blood and Tsukihime features not only great anime artwork, but an excellent story in campaign mode as well. The game blends story and fighting sequences in a similar fashion as Blazblue
23.) Crossing Souls
youtube
This colorful adventure game takes place in the 1980s in California. It features puzzle solving and fighting.
24.) Kingdom Come Deliverance
youtube
Kingdom Come Deliverance is an open world first person action RPG with non-linear story and stunning graphics.
25.) Secret of Mana
youtube
This gorgeous remake of the SNES classic will launch in February 2018.
26.) Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet
youtube
Based on the popular Sword Art Online Anime. This new title features gun-based combat and 4 player co-op or vs modes.
27.) Frantics
youtube
Cute animal characters star in this 4 player party game where you must bluff, battle, or negotiate your way to victory.
28.) Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
youtube
Yakuza is a spin off of the Shenmue Series. It features a deep lengthy storyline, intriguing characters, and of course crazy, fun, zany minigames, all in an open world. New to Yakuza 6 is the cat cafe and spear fishing just to name a few.
29.) A Way Out
youtube
A narrative game that can only be played with 2 players. Don’t worry if you don’t have any friends, you can play online as well as local co-op. The story revolves around 2 men trying to break out of prison. To do so you must make decisions in the story that will help build trust and friendship between the two inmates.
30.) Dollhouse
youtube
An interesting game that lets you create your own maps and stories. It seems to be about artificial intelligence. The multiplayer mode says you are fighting for control to be the “dominant mind”.
31.) The Lost Child
youtube
The Lost Child is an anime RPG in which you are able to collect over 50 different gods from various mythologies and train over 250 different skills. It includes both English and Japanese voice overs.
32.) The Witch and The Hundred Knight 2
youtube
This cute anime RPG lets you craft new weapons and items as well as recruit minions to fight for you.
33.) Gintama Rumble
youtube
This fighting game is based on the hit anime and manga. It will launch in January 2018.
34.) Fist of the North Star
youtube
From the developer of Yakuza, this action brawler is based on the hit retro anime and manga by the same name.
35.) Stein’s Gate Elite
youtube
This is a remastered version of the original Stein’s Gate game using animation taken directly from the anime based on the first game plus new animation created for this game. The goal was to create a fully animated visual novel (as opposed to still images). The developers are said to have been inspired from Yarudora, a series of fully animated visual novels from the 90s. I would also compare it to School Days HQ which is also fully animated. (and that animation style is why it ranks among our top 10 games for girls). I reviewed the original Stein’s Gate here. I highly recommend it. And since the first and second Stein’s Gate games have both been released in North America, I’d say there’s a good chance we will see an English release for Stein’s Gate Elite as well.
36.) Your Four Knights Princess Training Story
youtube
A “Raising Sim” similar to games such as Princess Maker and Graduation 95. Gematsu has an excellent article detailing how you will train your princess. Basically it involves scolding or praising your princess at various times, for example during conversations or while exploring dungeons. The story and characters change based on your decisions and how you raise your princess. The princesses each have various parameters that you can train to unlock new skills or increase their stats to help them in battle.
37.) Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists & the Mysterious Paintings
youtube
Atelier games focus on gathering ingredients and crafting new items. As you can see from the trailer, they feature beautiful anime graphics, and deep stories. Their gameplay is often long, and at times it can get tedious, however, for those who love crafting and exploring, Atelier offers the ultimate crafting system.
38.) Super Robot Wars X
youtube
Gematsu indicates that there will be a southeast asian version of this game with English subtitles. For fans wanting to play these games in English you should be able to import the game from Play Asia. It appears to be a compilation of many different retro Super Robot War titles, better known as Gundamn in North America.
39.) OK K.O. Let’s Play Heroes
youtube
This colorful brawler game from Cartoon Network arrives in early 2018.
40.) Shining Resonance Refrain
youtube
This is a remaster of the PS3 Shining Resonance Game, part of Sega’s Shining Force/Shining Wisdom game series. The PS3 version was never released in North America. Perhaps the new PS4 remake will find its way overseas. In addition to new graphics, this version includes new story scenarios and gameplay modes.

Comic-Con 2017: 20 Movie Panels You Won't Want to Miss
The heroes of the ‘Justice League’ assemble (Photo: Warner Bros.)
Perhaps thanks to a few high-profile film fizzles, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con isn’t quite as crowded with major movie panels as past editions have been. Some big studios — including Paramount, Universal, and Lionsgate — notably are playing hooky over Comic-Con weekend, which runs from July 20-23. That said, there are still plenty of film-related events to thrill movie freaks and geeks. Here are our picks of the 20 can’t-miss film panels at Comic-Con 2017.
THE BIG THREE
The Avengers assembled at D23 Expo (Photo: Disney)
Marvel Studios Expect an infinity (war) of Marvel heroes as Kevin Feige anchors the studio’s annual all-star panel. That Avengers trailer that played exclusively for D23 audiences will likely get a re-airing — and maybe a public release? — with perhaps a bonus scene or two to make the SDCC crowd feel special. There’s also sure to be more glimpses at Black Panther and Ant-Man and the Wasp, and maybe even our first official look at Brie Larson in her Captain Marvel uniform. (Saturday, July 22, 5:30pm-7:00pm, Hall H)
Wonder Woman takes point in ‘Justice League’ (Photo: Warner Bros.)
Warner Bros. Pictures Presentation All eyes will be on new trailers and/or fresh footage from Aquaman and Justice League — along with new clues about Ben Affleck‘s solo Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves, and the next Wonder Woman adventure. But there’s more, much more, to Warner Bros. than the DC Extended Universe. The studio also will be presenting footage from Steven Spielberg‘s highly anticipated adaptation of Ready Player One as well as Denis Villeneuve‘s Blade Runner 2049. Expect updates on the second Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as well as the Pacific Rim sequel, now with more John Boyega! (Saturday, July 22, 11:30am-1:30pm, Hall H)

20th Century Fox Wolverine may be gone, but the X-Men film franchise will definitely live on. Expect Fox to reveal details and footage about upcoming franchise installments New Mutants, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and, of course, Deadpool 2. Perhaps we’ll also get a status update on the future of the dormant Fantastic Four franchise given that — as we learned at D23 — Marvel’s First Family isn’t headed to the MCU anytime soon. BATMAN
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm: Remastered and Ready for Blu-Ray (Warner Bros.) The best Batman movie you’ve probably never seen, Mask of the Phantasm began its life as a direct-to-DVD spin-off of the beloved Batman: The Animated Series (which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year), but thankfully received a theatrical upgrade. Like the series, Phantasm is distinguished from its Bat-brethren by gorgeously Gothic animation and surprisingly sophisticated storytelling. The movie will look even better in its long-overdue Blu-ray release, available July 25. Hear all about Phantasm‘s origin, and legacy, from the project’s dynamic duo Bruce Timm and Kevin Conroy. (Thursday, July 20, 4:15pm-5:15pm, Room 6A)

DC Universe Original Movies 10th Anniversary (Warner Bros.) After a few false starts, the DC Extended Universe is finally flowering with this year’s box office smash, Wonder Woman. DC’s animated realm, on the other hand, is doing just fine, thank you very much. For 10 years now, Warner Bros. has been releasing direct-to-DVD animated adaptations of popular graphic novels and comic book storylines, from Justice League: The New Frontier to Batman: The Killing Joke. (Look for a comprehensive box set collecting every previously released title later this fall.) For a 10th anniversary present, the studio invites luminaries like Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett, and Kevin Conroy — the longtime voice of the animated Batman — to discuss DC’s animated legacy. (Thursday, July 20, 2:15pm-3:15pm, Room 6BCF)
World Premiere of Batman and Harley Quinn (Warner Bros.) The Dynamic Duo of the Dark Knight and the Maid of Mischief go on a road trip to find Harley’s best bud, Poison Ivy, and get tangled up with Swamp Thing and the Floronic Man along the way. Kevin Conroy reprises his role as Batman, while The Big Bang Theory‘s Melissa Rauch becomes the latest voice of Harley under the direction of DC animated universe mainstay, Bruce Timm. (Friday, July 21, 7:00pm-9:00pm, Ballroom 20; Encore screening at 9pm)
UPCOMING MOVIES
Will Smith in ‘Bright’ (Photo: Netflix)
Bright and Death Note (Netflix) Netflix is getting into the blockbuster business in a big way with Bright, a fantasy-laced action film from Suicide Squad collaborators David Ayer and Will Smith. Both Smith and Ayer will be on hand to screen footage (and dodge questions about what happened behind the scenes on Squad) flanked by co-stars Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, and Édgar Ramírez. The streaming service is also presenting scenes from its controversial Japanese manga adaptation, Death Note, which has already encountered some of the same “whitewashing” complaints that hit the live-action Ghost in the Shell. (Thursday, July 20, 3:15pm-4:30pm, Hall H)
Entertainment Weekly’s Women Who Kick Ass: Icon Edition with Atomic Blonde‘s Charlize Theron The star of the new Atomic Blonde takes the Hall H stage to answer questions about her newfound status as one of our best action heroines. If we’re lucky, maybe she’ll provide a live demonstration of her martial arts skills. (Saturday July 22, 2:00pm-2:45pm, Hall H)
The LEGO Ninjago Movie (Warner Bros.) The popular Cartoon Network series joins the larger Lego Cinematic Universe with a new voiceover cast — including Dave Franco, Jackie Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, and Justin Theroux — who will be present to screen footage and demonstrate their mastery of Spinjitzu. Ask your kids what that means. (Thursday, July 20, 6:45pm-7:45pm, Room 6A)
Wonderstruck (Amazon Studios) A hit at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, Todd Haynes‘s new drama takes the iconoclastic director into new territory: young adult fiction. Based on the book by Brian Selznick, Wonderstruck follows two youthful runaways in two different time periods. While Haynes won’t be present, Selznick — whose award-winning 2007 novel, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, was previously brought to the big screen by Martin Scorsese as Hugo — will provide sure-to-be fascinating accounts of its adaptation and production. (Thursday, July 20, 11:00am-12:00pm, Room 5AB)
Brigsby Bear (Sony Pictures Classics) Kyle Mooney becomes the latest Saturday Night Live star to try his hand at feature film stardom courtesy of this offbeat Sundance favorite. Made in close collaboration with his comedy troupe, Good Neighbor — which includes director Dave McCary and SNL co-star, Beck Bennett — Brigsby Bear casts Mooney as a victim of kidnapping as a child, who is finally freed as an adult and experiences a rough re-entry to the real world. Members of Good Neighbor and their SNL kin The Lonely Island (which produced the movie) will be on hand to present footage and provide presumably hilarious answers to audience questions. (Thursday, July 20, 12:45pm-1:45pm, Hall H)
STAR WARS
Carrie Fisher in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (Photo: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/Lucasfilm Ltd.)
Princess Leia Star Wars Fan Club Tribute Presentation The dearly departed Carrie Fisher officially achieved Disney Legend status at D23. Now, the SDCC Star Wars faithful pay their respects to the fallen General with a sure-to-be-emotional farewell hosted by nationally recognized fan clubs such as Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs, R2 Builders, and the 501st Legion. Show up to raise your lightsaber in salute. (Sunday, July 23, 10:00am-11:00am, Room 6DE)

Star Wars and Fandom: The Early Years Rewind the clock to 1976 when visitors to SDCC got their first glimpses of a sci-fi adventure called Star Wars, directed by the guy best known for American Graffiti. Former Lucasfilm fan relations director Craig Miller recounts those early close encounters between fandom and that galaxy far, far away with rare photos and press materials. (Friday, July 21, 4:00pm-5:00pm, Room 7AB)
HORROR AND MONSTERS
Reinventing Horror: What’s Next in Film and Comics! With the passing of scary movie masters like George Romero and Herschell Gordon Lewis, it’s important to continue cultivating a new generation of frightfully great horror directors. Several of the newest, and most talented, kids on the block will be at this panel, including Oz Perkins, whose chilling debut film, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, made Yahoo Movies’ list of 2017’s best movies so far; Roxanne Benjamin, part of the quartet that directed the Sundance-approved anthology feature, XX; and the Spierig Brothers, who will be re-launching the Saw franchise with Jigsaw, due in theaters on Oct. 27. (Friday, July, 21, 5:00pm-6:00pm, Room 23ABC)
Warner Archives Monsters From Hell It’s like Mystery Science Theater 3000 without the irony! Come celebrate cheesy monster movies from Hollywood’s B-movie golden age with other like-minded creature feature fans. When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, Demon Seed, and From Hell It Came are only some of the classically campy titles on the menu. (Saturday, July 22, 11:30am-12:30pm, Room 5AB)
Troma Entertainment If you love Guardians of the Galaxy, you have Troma to thank. This proud purveyor of silly schlock like The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke ‘Em High was the first studio to recognize the demented genius of writer/director James Gunn, setting him on the long and winding road that led to Marvel Studios. Troma’s flamboyant founder, Lloyd Kaufman (who had a cameo in the first Guardians) brings fans up to speed on the studio’s upcoming productions, including Return to Return to Nuke ‘Em High at the Cannes Film Festival and an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. (Saturday, July 22, 9:00pm-10:00pm, Room 23ABC)
BEST OF THE REST
Ghostbusters 101: A Ghostbusters Panel of Biblical Proportions! One year after Paul Feig’s underappreciated Ghostbusters reboot, Ivan Reitman is ready to talk about the franchise’s past, present, and future, with the help of the comic book license holders at IDW Publishing, Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening, and Tom Waltz. Expect Dan Aykroyd’s since-retracted criticisms to come up, as well as questions about whether Kate McKinnon will ever be able to reprise her scene-stealing role as Dr. Jillian Holtzmann. Memo to Reitman: cross whatever streams you have to in order to make a Holtzmann/Venkman meet-up a reality. (Thursday, July, 20, 10:15am-11:15am, Room 6DE)
1987: Greatest Geek Year Ever At Yahoo Movies, we have celebrated the Summer of ’86. Allow folks like Thor screenwriter Ashley E. Miller and Agent Carter co-EP Jose Molina to argue that 1987 is actually the greatest year ever for geeky movies. Considering that the ’87 release calendar includes The Princess Bride, Predator, and RoboCop, they have a very, very strong case. (Thursday, July 20, 3:00pm-4:00pm, Room 5AB)
The Genius of Animation: Cartoon Legends and Game Changers Speak Here’s a rare chance to hear about some of the pivotal moments in contemporary animation history from the men and women that experienced them firsthand. The line-up of panelists includes a healthy mix of veterans like legendary Disney journeyman, Floyd Norman — the first African-American animator hired at the studio when its founder, Walt Disney was still alive — as well as more recently discovered artists like Victoria Ying. (Friday, July, 21, 2:00pm-3:00pm, Room 23ABC)
Hollywood Location Scouts If you love to travel and have an eye for picking the perfect setting, you might want to consider “location scout” as your ideal career path. SDCC brings together six of the industry’s top scouts, among them Justice League‘s Scott Trimble and Logan‘s Shani Ornoa, who should have some fascinating stories to share about finding the best possible location for, say, a superhero brawl. (Friday, July 21, 1:00pm-2:00pm, Room 9)
