Warning: Eye Whump and Amputation mentions. Drugging Sorry I forgot this before.
Whumpee jumped when their cell door opened.
"M-may I ask who is coming in?", Whumpee whispered. A blindfold had been tied to their head from a recent eye removal surgery to help stop on infection from spreading.
"It's Dr. Yeld and two guards. Whumper would like to run some tests, so we are taking you to the lab. I need to ask the typical questions", Whumpee felt the scientist pat their head, "are you ready?"
"Yes sir", Whumpee nodded.
"To begin with... How does your head and eye sockets feel?", Whumpee allowed the guards to begin shackling them.
"They ache a little and feel crusty and itchy", Whumpee whispered hoarsely, "I think the blindfold is stuck to the crust, I tried hard not to touch it, like you said."
"Okay I'll make a note to change that for you", Dr. Yeld wrote a small note, "why do you sound so hoarse? Do you feel sick?"
"I-I couldn't find my water, I felt around a little in here, but I think it's missing", Whumpee frowned.
Dr. Yeld looked around, "you're right, I'm sorry that happened. We'll get some water before the test."
Whumpee nodded, "please and thankyou."
The last few questions were asked and answered satisfactorily.
Whumpee allowed the guards to lead them to the lab.
"Dr. Yeld", Whumpee whispered as the guards strapped them in, "I'm scared."
"It's okay Whumpee, Whumper said it's going to be minor tests today. Nothing big. I think they want to see how you're healing as well."
Whumpee nodded, "okay, may I have water?"
"Yes of course. I'll be right back", Dr. Yeld stepped away.
Whumpee felt a part of their back start to itch.
"May I have help?", Whumpee requested to anyone listening.
After a minute, Whumpee realized they may have been alone or people around were too busy to help the lab rat.
Whumpee was strapped down onto the metal slab table in a vertical position.
They started to wriggle around in an attempt at scratching their back.
Suddenly, Whumpee's hands slipped through the straps, and they fell to the floor. Their feet tangled into the straps and twisted opposite their natural direction. They hit the floor with a thud.
"Ah, ah, oww", Whumpee cried out, only drowned out by an alarm.
Whumpee heard guards running to them, but they were preoccupied by the shooting pains running up and down their legs.
"He-help, help.... help me please", Whumpee cried out.
Whumpee winced as the guards lifted them up. Their legs were unstrapped and they were laid on the ground.
"What the hell is going on in here?", Whumper's voice could be heard above the alarm.
"The test subject attempted to escape", one of the guards announced.
Whumpee's head shot up quickly, "n-no I didn't."
Whumpee heard someone approach, dress shoes clank against the tile floor.
Whumper knelt down and placed two fingers under Whumpee's chin to lift their face, "then why are the alarms going off? Why are you on the ground Whumpee", Whumper questioned.
"M-my back was itchy, and no one was available to help me. I was wriggling around on the table to try to itch it. Then I fell", Whumpee winced, "m-my legs hurt."
Whumper reached another hand up and patted Whumpee's head, "so my little rat wasn't trying to run."
"No Master, where would I go?", Whumpee whispered.
Whumper chuckled, "good point Whumpee", Whumper stood, "Dr. Yeld, please check Whumpee's legs, and let's see what happened. Today's test will be rescheduled for now."
"I'm sorry Master", Whumpee felt someone starting to pick them up.
"It's okay Whumpee, let's get your legs taken care of. Then I'll check your eyes", Whumper sighed, "I may have to talk to my staff and see why you aren't being taken care of."
"I'm a rat Master, that's why", Whumpee sighed.
"You are... but you are my lab rat, and I expect my staff to take care of you", Whumper frowned.
Whumpee now lay on the metal table again.
"Don't move Whumpee, we're scanning your legs", Dr. Yeld ordered.
"Yes sir, ma-may I have water after this", Whumpee pleaded.
"Oh geesh, Whumpee I'm sorry", Dr Yeld frowned, "just two seconds and done."
Whumpee felt a straw press in between their lips. They quickly drank.
"Careful Whumpee, you're going to ch..", Whumper was interrupted when Whumpee started to choke, "see."
"I'm sorry.... thirsty", Whumpee struggled to catch their breath.
"I don't see any breaks, but you more than likely sprained both legs", Whumper frowned, "you did a number on yourself. See these strains here."
"I didn't mean to, I don't know how I fell. I think my hands slipped", Whumpee whispered.
Whumper stepped over to the table Whumpee lay on and looked it over.
"Try to slip your hands back into the straps", Whumper ordered.
Whumpee quickly did as they were told.
"Someone didn't do a good job strapping you in", Whumper frowned as they watched Whumpee's hand go into the strap with minimal struggle, "who were the guards who helped you bring Whumpee. I need to have a chat with them."
Whumpee shook, "please don't kill them Master."
"I won't kill them, but they may find themselves fired from this lab", Whumper sighed, "I don't like when my little rat gets injured by someone else, especially when it messes my plans up."
Whumpee felt someone sitting them up. They allowed their body to bend to the persons will.
"Let's put them in a soft cast for now. Revisit an x-ray and muscle scan in a week or so. Whumpee, let us know if you have any strange pain, just like normal", Whumper started to leave.
"Master?", Whumpee whispered.
Whumper stopped and turned, "yes Whumpee."
Whumpee shyly fiddled with their fingers, "may I, uhm, may I go outside today?", they kept their head lowered.
"Whumpee it's cold out right now, plus you'll have cast on your legs", Whumper walked back to the table, "I forgot to check your eye sockets."
Whumpee felt Whumper lift their head, and start removing the blindfold.
Whumpee whimpered a little as the cloth was gently pulled from the wound.
"I don't like that it's sticking to the wound sight", Whumper frowned as they took a closer look, "Whumpee I will allow you to pick something fun though, you have had a harder week then we normally give you."
"May I have chicken nuggets for lunch", Whumpee asked excitedly.
"You know what, you absolutely can", Whumper chuckled, "how about I order you chicken nuggets, fries, a dessert, and you can even have soda pop today", Whumper rubbed Whumpee's cheek gently, "how does that sound."
Whumpee melted into the touch, "that sounds yummy", Whumpee moaned tiredly.
"Is my lab rat sleepy?", Whumper chuckled.
"Yes Master, it's difficult to sleep now", Whumpee yawned.
"Hmm", Whumper hummed.
Dr. Yeld set to work wrapping the bandages on Whumpee's legs, "please Whumpee try your hardest not to walk on your legs. They definitely need some rest, you don't want to stress them", Dr. Yeld watch Whumpee nod.
Whumpee reached their hand up to touch where their eyes where.
"Ah ah", Dr. Yeld warned, making Whumpee jump, "don't touch there. That is still fresh, you could cause another infection."
"I'm sorry, it's just weird. It's not even pitch black like you'd think. It's nothingness", Whumpee explained, as they tried to touch the area again."
"Don't touch Whumpee", Dr. Yeld grabbed Whumpee's hand and pulled it away, "I don't want to straightjacket you."
Whumpee nodded, "I'm sorry."
Whumpee heard Dr. Yeld step away.
They sat quietly and listened to the multitude of sounds in the lab.
Suddenly Whumpee felt someone stop in front of them. They were handed a bag and a cup, then the person seemed to climb up on the metal table and sat beside Whumpee.
Whumpee felt confused.
"I-I'm sorry.... who's their? A-and what's this", Whumpee shook.
"As promised, your chicken nuggets, fries, and drink. I have your desert chilling in the freezer for when you want it", Whumper's voice sounded as though they were smiling.
Whumpee quickly opened the bag and pulled out a handful of fries.
"Thankyou Master, I appreciate this gift", they grinned before stuffing their mouth.
"You're welcome Whumpee", Whumper chuckled.
Whumper studied Whumpee while they ate, "I see Doc bandaged your legs."
"Yes Master", Whumpee nodded, "they said not to use them as much as possible."
Whumpee reached up absent mindedly and scratched around the wound on their eye.
"Whumpee... don't touch your eyes", Whumper tried to pull the hand down but was too late.
Whumpee screamed in pain as Dr. Yeld hurried over.
"What happened?", Dr. Yeld pulled Whumpee to lay down.
"It stings", Whumpee cried. Tears started to come out of Whumpee's eye sockets.
"I bet you they bothered it, but got salt on the wound from the fries", Whumper held Whumpee's hands down so they wouldn't do it again or fight Dr. Yeld from disinfecting the wounds."
"Ow", Whumpee screamed, "it hurts."
"I know Whumpee, I wasn't quick enough to stop you", Whumper frowned, "when Doc gets you cleaned up we will put an eye cover on you, I found a better one that hopefully won't stick."
Whumpee shook violently as they were cleaned up.
"Let's place Whumpee in their cell. Let's do a straightjacket for right now", Whumper started to let go. I'll go in and finish feeding them. Then they can have their dessert and I'll put the new eye cover on them, it needs to get cleaned before they wear it."
"Please no straightjacket", Whumpee pleaded.
"I'm sorry Whumpee, it's for your own good", Whumper turned and walked away.
Whumpee sobbed as the straightjacket was buckled, "I'll be good", they pleaded, "please I don't want this."
"I'm sorry Whumpee. You keep touching your eyes. If you keep doing that, they won't heal", Dr Yeld patted their shoulder, "I know you don't like this fact, but you really don't get a choice on the matter."
Whumpee fell quiet except for their sobbing.
Dr. Yeld frowned when he realized what he said, "Whumpee I-I'm sorry.... I."
"Why did I lose my eyes.... was it your fault?", Whumpee shuddered, "because I didn't get a choice."
"I-I don't know why that infection happened, we had to remove the eyes though, it would have spread, and could have killed you."
"What life d-do I have anyway... I'm just a measly lab rat", Whumpee sobbed as they were lifted from the metal table and placed in a wheelchair.
"I didn't even get to eat all of my special treat either", Whumpee cried a little louder.
Dr. Yeld felt guilt crawl up his throat and leave a knot, "I'm sorry Whumpee, but Whumper did say he would go to your cell and help feed you the rest of your meal. You even get a desert, isn't that exciting?", Dr Yeld reached for the cup of soda, "here have a drink of your soda", Dr Yeld held the straw for Whumpee to drink.
Tears continued from small gaps while Whumpee drank a few sips. Their breathing was labored.
"Why am I still able to cry without my eyes?", Whumpee asked while they were wheeled through the hall.
Dr. Yeld was deep in guilty thought on how to make this up for Whumpee.
"Dr. Yeld? I thought he came with us", Whumpee sighed.
"I'm sorry Whumpee, I was just wondering how to make this up to you", Dr. Yeld walked beside the chair, "what was your question?"
"Why am I able to cry without my eyes?", Whumpee asked again.
"We were able to leave your tear ducts in tact", Dr. Yeld smiled, "you still have the ability to produce tears and cry."
"Oh", Whumpee kept their head down.
Whumpee was laid on their mattress in their cell.
They rolled over and tried to sit up.
"Ugh", Whumpee sighed as they fell back down, "I can't see. I can't walk. I can't use my arms."
The cell door opened again, and closed.
"I heard you were pretty upset", Whumper talked from the entrance, "Dr. Yeld and a few other scientists and guards felt bad."
"I'm sorry Master, I didn't mean to say all of those mean things", Whumpee tried to sit up but fell back again.
"I know Whumpee, you're having a hard time settling in again. You've had a busy week, and today didn't help with your legs getting injured", Whumper stepped over and knelt by the mattress. They lifted Whumpee so they could sit up.
"Thankyou Master", Whumpee sighed in relief.
"Alright I'm sitting down next to you, let's finish your lunch", Whumper plopped down on the mattress, "let's see how you feel after this. You can have the dessert later if you're not hungry."
Whumpee nodded, "may I have another drink please?"
"Of course. You are doing so well with your manners", Whumper held the cup for them, "I'm very proud of you."
"Thankyou master", Whumpee squirmed excitedly.
"You're welcome, it looks like you have a few more nuggets. I think your fries were all gone before the eye accident", Whumper held a nugget to Whumpee's lip.
"If you don't feel like dessert I have a packet of gummies you can have instead. Maybe we can go that route, have your dessert later tonight", Whumper grinned.
"Yes Master", Whumpee agreed.
"Alright that was your last nugget", Whumper chuckled, "how was your lunch.... is it what you wanted?"
"Yes Master", Whumpee smiled, "thankyou."
"Here are the gummies", Whumper fiddled with a packet, "I have a few sour ones as a treat. Your face is funny when you eat sour candies."
Whumpee smiled, "thankyou."
Whumper started to put the candies one by one in Whumpee's mouth.
Whumpee made a face, "that one is really sour", they gasped.
Whumper chuckled, "I know."
Whumpee felt tired after a few minutes.
"Master I'm sleepy", Whumpee interrupted Whumper from their rambling.
"I know Whumpee", Whumper sighed, "I slipped you a gummy to help you go to sleep."
Whumpee struggled to get away from Whumper.
"No, no... none of that", Whumper held them down, "you can't use your legs right now. Earlier you said you were having trouble sleeping, I can't have you being tired unless I'm testing something that requires you to be tired."
Whumpee sobbed as Whumper pulled them to lay down. Their head now rested on Whumper's lap.
"It's just a light drug, I need you to sleep", Whumper rubbed Whumpee's head, "you'll wake up in a few hours. I'll let you have your dessert then."
Whumpee heard the door open.
"Ah, Dr. Yeld, you brought the eye cover", Whumper grinned.
Dr. Yeld looked at Whumpee sadly then handed the cover to Whumper.
"These are nice, and padded. They should lay on your skin nicely and not get stuck to the wound.
Whumper lifted Whumpee's almost limp body and slid the covers on their head and over their eyes.
"There we go", Whumper adjusted the tightness.
After a few minutes of hearing Whumpee's snores. Whumper rested Whumpee on their pillow and covered them up.
"I-I didn't know you were serious about drugging them", Dr. Yeld watched Whumper as they stood.
"They need to sleep, it is harder for blind people to sleep sometimes. They are getting use to this new life", Whumper sighed, "I wasn't acting out of anger and meanness. I truly need them to sleep. I do care for my lab rat. Though I know I have a weird way of showing it."
"I said something to them though, I wanted to apologize", Dr. Yeld frowned and watched Whumpee's steady breathing.
"Oh I heard what you said. I was quite amused actually", Whumper laughed, "I guess you will need to wait until they wake up."
Dr. Yeld made an angry face at Whumper.
"Will you ever tell them you're the reason they got that infection? You're the reason they lost their sight.", Dr. Yeld crossed their arms.
"No, and neither will you. You've done some horrid test on them yourself, remember. If you say anything, I will kill you."
Whumper walked past Dr. Yeld as they exited the room, "remember our agreement and your place in this lab."
"Yes Master", Dr. Yeld cowarded away and looked back at Whumpee.
"Come along", Whumper stood by the door, "we have plenty of things to do."

I think I finally have an idea how Adam gets out of the facility.
Is there such a thing as a silent-caretaker? Like, someone keeping an eye out for the whumpee and doing what they can in the background without actually interacting with them?
Cuz I figured it out and it's one of the medical techs who gets him out but Adam has no significant interaction with the dude, like, ever 😆

Ch 21 - Bug Busters (Re-write) - Ch 23
“English” *Common*
Violet stood in the middle of the big red and gold room, severely regretting their life choices.
Oreo was sliding round on the once nice wooden floors, giggling as the honey they had dripped all over themselves helped her slide. They were loudly singing to a random song as he grabbed at bugs, having only managed to get four of the glowing mosquitoes.
The suit Violet had made for the energetic turtle was still on thankfully, its backpack glowing with a single dead mosquito in it. The other three he held were in her hands, getting the green mutagen everywhere from the dead one and the other two creepily big bugs trying to get away.
Sky was sitting on an overturned couch, perched on it as he gave a newly mutated pomeranian and their also new mutated human a few pats on the back. He looked woefully unprepared for his situation, his own blue suit covered in green goop and some white and tan fur from the dog people.
SKy looked over at them, mothing something that Violet couldn’t see, blocked by his mask tails that were still stuck in his visor. Violet turned away, looking round the room.
Once a very nice and regal looking lobby, one painted in reds, golds, and dark wood was now infested with green bugs, most congregating around some kind of waterfall on the far wall.
The bugs had been here for days, most if not all of the guests had been told to stay in their rooms. Because of course their job had to be made harder by the outbreak being in a hotel. One of the richest and fancy ones in New York no less.
Some guest had made it out of the bug infested lobby, only to be bitten on the street, making a whole scene. Violet had yet to see the full videos of the mutation, but just the aftermath photos sent chills down their shell. It had put production on the tank on hold, instead being asked to make suits to prevent bites so all four of them could go get the damn bugs.
They sighed as Oreo bumped into them, a grin on the box turtle's face. Their orange visor ahd footed up slightly, but was rapidly going away as Oroe managed to sit still for a few moments.
The stickiness from Oroes suit dripped onto VIolets, making htem currle up their snout. Oroe was already off, yelling somethign about an employee.
Violet looked around, spotting the human as Oroe slammed into the counter of the check in. The human was behind said counter, red uniform making them out to be an employee.
Violet growled. One more thing to deal with. One more thing to keep track of.
The human screamed, running away from Oreo. The box looked at Violet, visor and distance not hiding the heartbreak on the younger’s face. Violet walked over, patting him on the shoulder.
“Humans are rude, aren’t they.”
Oreo sniffled slightly, a small grin retuning. *Not all, Aps is nice.”
“Scoof!” Violet placed one hand on their chest, right over their emblem, “Our dearest sister is left out of the human category, you see she is one of us at heart.”
Oreo let out a proper laugh, attempting, and failing, at hiding their face with their hands. Violet hummed, making the corners of their mouth twitch up in a smile. Oreo sprung up, sliding around vIolet before dashing off to help Sky with his predicament.
Violet looked around, hissing as he caught sight of the human. They had run right for the waterfall, looking back at Oreo as they did so.
Onix, who had been unseen to Violet became she was standing stock still grabbed the human and shoved him away, her green and unsuited hand tearing the red fabric of their clothing.
Violet ran over, still hissing as the human scrambled to stand, one of the many rich decorations crashing to the floor next to them. The human grabbed it, it was one of a pair of buffalo horns, and pointed it at Onix.
Onix for the record, had forgone the top half of her suit, a net tucked under one hand as she held a basket of something that was far too green for Violet's liking.
The red metal on Onixs lower suit was wet with water, green blobs stuck to it. Her free hand was retracting from the shove, still held up as she was looking at her hand. She glanced at the human, eyeridge raising.
Violet tapped her arm, getting her attention. Onix looked down at them, head tilting as she put her arm down.
“First, what is the green thing, second, why did you take your suit off?” Violet nodded to the green blobs, then at the lack of her top.
Onix shrugged. She nodded to the human, then making a motion at her throat. Violet scrunched up their eyes, questioning their older sister's antics.
Onix returned to what she was going, which was digging the green blobs out of the water. Violet blinked, realization hitting them like a truck. eggs.
Violet glanced at the disregarded suit pile, which had been tossed to one side next to a fancy looking sculpture. They glanced again at Onix, who didn’t even seem to notice the bugs that were landing and crawling all over her.
Violet turned back to the human, going stiff at the sight of a green bug landing on them. The human screamed, slapping at the bug on their arm right as it made a dive to bite them. They dropped the horn as the mutation began.
A big hand grabbed them, Onixs hand covering their visor and by extension their eyes. She shouted something at Sky and Oreo, but Violet couldn’t make it out as they fought to pry Onixs hand off of their face.
The humans' screams were destroying, becoming deeper and more gurttal. Fabric could be heard tearing, the dark ripping echoing almost as deep into their brain as the screaming.
“Oni- I can-'' Violet hissed as they managed to get a finger off the visor, just for it to snap back into place.
*No.* Onix growled. Violet could feel her body shift, VIolet themselves being forced to face away from the screaming. *No, just, no*
Violet was let go as the screaming stopped, their ears still ringing. Onix moved away, her massive body lumbering towards the new mutant.
Violet turned to see her crouch next to the now mutant buffalo. The person tried to hit her, but the arms were too weak to even puch her an inch. She tried to help them sit, but the mutant screamed again.
Violet stepped back, rubbing at their arms as SKy and Oreo ran over.
*You ok?* Sky offered an hug.
Violet stepped into it, hissing. *that- It sounded-*
*Yeah, fucking horrendous. Me an‘ Oj could hear it.* Sky held them closer.
Oreo joined the hug. *It’s ok Vivi! I think.*
Something sounded, a ding coming from nearby. The three separated, Sky reaching for a sword that he didn't have, and Oreo clicking a curse. Violet grabbed their collapsible bō.
Onix was in front of them suddenly, her dark scales spattered with green mutagen.
“I always wondered how that happened.” A higher pitch voice spoke, one that sounded like how delicate flowers looked.
Violet glanced around Onixs arm, spotting the new human. They had on a purple dress and silver green fur, sticking out like a sore thumb. Violet hissed.
The human spotted them, lifting one hand to her face in order to pretend to hide a giggle. “You turtle boos have made quite a mess haven’t you?”
Onix growled, the spikes on her shell and face lifting up. Violet and Oreo both stepped back in order to avoid being bonked.
“Oh dont worry little darlings, my people will take care of this! Now, Little Red it has been so long!”
The human walked right up to them, leaving Violets sight as they got closer to their big sister. Violet hissed. Who were they was the main question, the second being why they didn't run.
Onix lowered her head into the red scarf she wore, a glow growl still coming from her throat.
The human spoke again. “I see you have been cleaning your father’s mess! What a good girl you are.”
They peeked behind Onix, spotting the others. Onix brought her arm up to separate the group, the growl picking up as the human's silvery hair and dark purple makeup got closer.
“I see you have friends now.” They giggled again, smiling.
“Big Mama.” Onix huffed, the spikes on her shell lowering, but the ones on her face remained puffed up. “I didn't know this was your hotel.”
Big Mama smiled, a small one that set Violets nerves off. “Of course it is little one! Now, we have much to talk about!”
Onixs growl lowered in volume, but it remained. “We’re just here for the bugs.’
Big Mama waved. “Of course, of course. Come, I can help.”
Oreo shared a look with Violet and Sky, the older pair giving a nervous nod. Oreo jumped onto Onixs shoulder, slipping and catching themselves with scrambling feet.
Oreo spoke quietly. *We kind of need the help..* (Sky face palmed)
Violet and Sky made to stand on either side of Onix. Sky crossed his arms and Violet held their bō, though it was collapsed.
Onix grunted, lowering her extended arm. “Fine.”
She turned, moving to her abandoned gear. She picked it up, balancing her net and basket atop. Violet watched her, still keeping an eye on Big mama as the snapper returned.
Violet removed their helmet, making the metal retract with a press of a button. They slid the disk into a pocket, then showed Sky how to do the same as they walked up to an elevator. Oroe watched, then copied them, a grin on their face.
The elevator was strangely green and yellow, dark purple accents on the trim. Violet blinked at the small occapule looking mutant, who flicked a leaver and pressed a few buttons as Big Mama stepped into the elevator.
Violet looked back at the room right as the doors finished closing, humans and creatures in dark blue uniforms beginning to swat at bugs and clean the green mutagen.
The elevator moved down, making Violet's heart lerch. They clung to Onix, who responded by shuffling them closer with her tail.
The ride was quiet, say for the humming from Big Mama. Oreo was still perched on Onixs shoulders, though they struggled to stay in one place with the honey and gravity fighting them. Onix looked unbothered by the shifting Box turtle, her attention later focused onto BIg Mama.
Violet glanced at the human, startling as they noticed more yellow and purple in their eyes than any human could hope for. Their skin began to shine purple in the shifting light, though it very much could have been a trick in the light.
They stepped out of the elevator as it dinged, Motioning for the others to follow. Violet moved first, Onix and Sky following.
Violet glanced up at Onix, eyes going wide at the now silver eyes that glared at Big Mama. they glanced at Big Mama, whose skin was definitely purple as she spoke and waved about.
The halls were more of the green, though it faded to be more gold and jade then just the shiny yellow of the elevator. The floor was replaced with a dark carpet, softer looking than Violet expected for a hotel.
Sky had asked her something, though Violet missed it in their unease.
“- sounds fascinating child. No, we are all Yokai.”
“Yeah huh, like Onixs stories.” Sky scoffed, crossing his arms.
Violet glanced back at Onix again. She showed no sign of the annoyance she normally did, the corners of her beak poking out from behind her scarf in a smile or a snarl Violet didn't know.
“Why tell stories? We are very real.” Big Mama giggled yet again, honey almost dripping from her voice.
Sky squeaked. Oreo grabbed the attention off of the slider before Big Mama or Violet could speak again.
*Why did the bugs swarm here?*
Big Mama shrugged. “I can not tell you little one, though it seems like something you should figure out.” they paused. “With help of course.”
Onixs ever present growl picked up in volume, her movements becoming stiff as they stopped at a door. Violet blinked at the response, more from the fact that Oreo had definitely not just spoken in English. Their little sibling was also blinking, head tilted.
Big Mama smiled, a tad to samll for Violet's liking, unlocking the door. They gestured them in, following once all four of them had gone through.
The office was massive, red walls and dark wooden floors making the room feel small despite its overwhelming size. Big windows lined the opposite wall, showering the room in green light. Violet couldn’t see anything but shapes out of it, dark green and orange blobs in the far distance.
Big Mama walked to the other end of the room, pausing as they reached a desk just before the windows. They smiled at a photo, something like sadness passing their features as Violet watched.
They sat at the desk, nodding at the group. “So Kappa boos.”
Sky grunted at the new nickname. Oreo slid off of Onixs shoulders, The eldest holding too much to help them down. Violet kept hold of their bō, shuffling closer to their twin.
“You need some help with the bugs, yes?” Big Mama's smile widened slightly, looking almost normal.
Oreo gave a tentative nod, glancing at the others. Violet glanced at Sky, the pair also giving small nods.
“Oh no need to be so nervous around me little ones!” BIg Mama looked almost hurt. “I am no human trying to trick you.”
Onixs growl rose in volume once again, her tail lashing once before stilling.
Big Mama hummed. “Protective as always Little one, though suppose you got that form your father. Now,” They clapped her hands. “I will help you with hte bugs if you do one little favor for me.”
Violet nodded before the others could do anything. Sky groaned as Oreo took up the nod.
Big Mamas smile grew. “Oh you are such good little kappa! all i need is for you to find someone for me.” They looked right at Onix. “Your father should know where he took him.”
Violet looked up at Onix, whose eyes had gone wide, recognition flashing in her eyes. Her silver eyes.
“I-“ Onix chocked. “Ze- Who.” She settled, her tail tip flicking.
Big Mama smiled. “you know who little one.” They flipped the photo from earlier to face the group, a familiar person in the frame.
Onix went even more stiff if possible, the spikes on her cheeks now pressed to her scales as the growl from earlier dieing. Violet watched her reaction, worry wiggling into their gut.
Sky whistled, mailing Violet look at him. Sky nodded to the photo.
Violet blinked at the photo, a younger familiar person in it. Lou Jutsu was in frame, massive fire-y wings on his back as he held up a furry and small mutant, well, it was a mutant's limb. His classic suit was spattered with blood, but he had no injuries himself.
“But hes dead.” Violet looked at Big Mama, whose eyes closed as they gave a thin lipped smile.
“I know he is not.”
Sky hissed. “And how do you know that?”
“Because he was stolen from me. He has been missing for many years.” Big Mama's face fell, tears coming to their eyes.
Violet looked at Onix. Her face was mostly hidden by her scarf, her body still stiff as she stared. Violet rested a hand on her lower arm, earning no reaction. They whined slightly, watching his sister's face intently.
Sky was shaking his head. “That’s, no way. He died before any of us had even hatched-“
“Do not lie to me little kappa.”
“I'm not liking, he's dead. Everyone knows this!”
“And yet I know that is a lie.”
“How! he died in, like, the 90s! None of us had been hatched!”
“Stop this nonsense little Kappa, if you want my help then you will do this favor in return, lest I make you radio clowns for destroying my hotel.”
Something purple flashed in the corner of Violet's vision, making them spin to face the desk.
A massive form was revealed, a spider body taking up the space where Big Mama had just been. Inky black-purple limbs spread out, mint green fur cascaded down from the head to their shoulders, red eyes looking at them from all over. Big Mama's head rounded up, web dangling from her mouth as flat teeth partuded worse than even Onixs tusks. Six red eyes glared at them.
Violet hissed as Oreo screamed, dropping the photo they held. Sky growled, blue sparks coming off of his arms and hands. The bō in Violet's hands expanded with no input, something sizzling from deep within.
Big Mama turned to them. “You are useful little kappa,” Their voice was dripping honey and sugar, far too sweet and high pitch for their form. “In making me things.”
Violet's eyes went wide as web was flung in their direction, the sickly lavender fluid coming right from the spiders mouth.
Big hands pulled them back, web landing right where they had been. Onix was growling, her shell and cheek spikes once again fully puffed out. The metal she had been holding now lay at her feet, green mutagen splattered over her chest and arms.
Sky and Oreo where in her other hand, though Sky looked ready to pounce as Violet watched him. Oreo clung to Onix, though he was now hissing, a mean snarl spread on her painted face.
Big Mama sighed. “Really little red, I must take them. You understand. Warriors and weapons always do.”
Oni took another step back, her voice dripping with anger and venom as she spoke. “I am not a weapon. Nor are my siblings.”
Big Mamas eyes narrowed. “That is what your father always said. such a shame for his disappearance.”
Onixs head lowered into her scarf, the growl increasing as she pushed Violet and Oreo back. Violet hissed at the abrupt movement. They reacted into their suits shell, regretting not using their battle shell.
Metal screached on the floor, and Violet spotted Onix dragging disregarded suit and the bug eggs over to them. Big Mama saw too late, webs splattering onto the floor right where the metal had just been.
Onix moved suddenly, grabbing the shoulder pads of her suit, lurching back as more webs where flung their way.
Violet grabbed the basket, eggs included, and made a bolt for the door. Oreo was behind them, Sky and Onix following.
Violet yelped as they ran into a burly bellhop, ducking around them as Sky brought his leg down on the mutants arm. Oreo grabbed the bō, fumbling slightly.
She vaulted over the next person that crossed there path, dropping down and taking the dog mutant's legs out from under them as Violet ran past.
They found the stairs, pausing just long enough to look for their siblings.
Oreo was right behind them, bō still in hand as he batted at the dog mutant. Sky was a few feet past that, making a b-line for where Violet was. Onix was a bit farther back still, her heavy suit now in place on her scales as she ran, her tail knocking something over behind her.
Violet began the descent, then paused. The elevator had gone down. they looked up. up they would go.
They fled up the stairs, panting as they passed Sky and Oreo. The pair followed, Oreo using the bō to climb faster, and Sky sped up the stairs. Something blue flashed on him as he paused Violet, stopping on the landing to look down.
Onix was coming up, heavy footsteps being the only thing letting them know of her position.
Violet grunted, making way for the last floor. They slammed against the final door, hissing as it gave way. They stumbled, Sky cought them from face planting.
Oreo panted next to them, coughing the bō staff to steady himself. Violet made themselves look up, gasping as they looked around.
The sky was a soft emerald green, getting darker and darker the farther up Violet looked. Buildings where close by, near as dense as the city above; instead made of green metal and silver stone. Pale green windows reflected a careful light onto the ground below. Shapes flew in the background, massive creatures lugging what looked to be carts behind them or smaller ones flicking about free of what their friends carried.
Violet took a few steps forward, looking around. The city was so, well, for lack of a better word, beautiful. It called to them in a way they couldn’t possibly describe, the same way they had been drawn to mashenary and the cats, the same way they were drawn to Sky more than their other siblings.
“Welcome to the Hidden City”
Violet turned, looking at Onix s she spoke.
Her eyes were alsmot white in the brighter light, silver against the dark green of her scales. The scars around her eyes were tilted up with her brow muscles. Her scarf was pulled down, hanging onto the spikes on her shoulder, her tusks pulling her beak apart in a soft smile.
Sky looked out, a wissle ecaping him.
Oreo moved away from the door, standing next to Violet. *So it’s real?*
Onix nodded. “Yeah. Always has been.” She gave a soft laugh. “the day I lie about this place is the day I die.”
Sky whipped his head around. “Why are you so fucking dramatic- oh shit-“
Violet hissed as mutants where spotted in the door, one already trying to push at Onix. Oni, now in her full suit, elbowed the poor mutant, sending them stumbling back. She spun, grabbing the door and slamming it shut.
Violet yelped again as she ran towards them, grabbing Violet and Sky by their shells and launching herself off the roof.
Time slowed for just a few moments, giving them a moment to look down at the city below.
The streets were filled with mutants, the lower buildings looking like plaster and brick. No one looked up at the shadow that passed overhead, or if they did, Violet couldn’t see.
Gravity seemed to let them go, the three flying in the light of the green sky. Violet looked over, spotting Oreo next to the three, a wild and massive grin spread on her face. He was laughing, the sounds of clear as day in Violet's ears.
All too quickly they crashed to the next roof, gravity forcing itself back onto the four. Onix grunted as she landed, but she was moving already. Oreo rolled, running just behind Onix as they popped back up.
Violet watched the city fly past, living for every moment that gravity died, and hating every second that it decided to live again.
They had managed to clamber onto her shoulders, clinging to her shell and head as Sky was stuck to her arms. Oreo ran beside them, laughing at every jump.
Onix slowed as they reached a drop, making Violet click. The tall buildings dropped into middle and low rise buildings, now all made of bricks, stone, plaster and wood.
The snapper made her way to the edge of the roof, looking around. Violet yelped as she jumped onto a balcony then onto another low building roof. she looked up, head tilting. Violet turned to look up at the roof.
Oreo was on the roof above, looking down at them. He looked to be judging the jump.
She disappeared, then reappeared with a running jump. They grabbed the railing of the balcony, spinning around it before jumping and landing a few feet away from Onix.
Violet capped as Sky laughed. Onix gave a light nod, putting Sky down.
Oreo bowed. *Thank you, thank you!* they stood, smile covering her face.
Violet slid off of Onixs shoulders, stretching. Sky began to take off his suit, grunting as he did so. Violet did the same, collapsing the metal and fabric into a small pile.
Sky watched for a few moments before doing the same, blue added into the pile of purple. Oreo walked over, taking the armor off of his arms.
Violet took off their metal shell, sighing in soft relief as the weight of the prosthetic was lifted, quite literally, from their shoulders.
they began putting the collapsed bits into the shell, snoring them by color. Oreo handed them his pile, in a conversation with Sky that violet didn’t particularly pay any attention to as they sorted.
Onix put her pile down next to them, taking the bug eggs from where they had been abandoned. Violet flicked their now free tail, humming as they continued to sort.
Onix sat next to them, the basket set back down as she basked in the green light. Violet looked up at her, watching. She was leaning back on her arms, head tilted up at the sky. Her eyes were closed, though Violet could see the line in her face deepening. Sky and Oreo continued to talk, arguing about something.
“What are you thinking about?” Violet looked at Onix, Who blinked her eyes open.
“What..?” She looked at Violet.
“You are thinking.” Violet pointed out the aoviouse, head ducking slightly. “What are you thinking about?”
Onix sighed, shifting. She sat up slightly, her tail now propping her up as she put her arms in her lap.
“Big Mama.”
Violet blinked, tilting their head. Sky and Oreo both tuned, looking at their older sister.
“All that stuff she said about dad and you?” Sky asked, leaning back on his own arms. “Warriors or something?”
Onix sighed, nodding. “yeah.”
*Was it ture?* Oreo asked, one small hand placed on Onixs lower arm.
“Some of it.” Onix raised her head, a hand going for her lost scarf. she clutched at her choker, hand closing around the rock she wore. “I.. I live with someone else before dad, I know I've told you that before.”
Violet and the others nodded. It was one of her stories, living with someone with red hair and two small winged people for some unspoken amount of time. She had told them how she had watched over all of their eggs till they hatched, but she never spoke about how they mutated.
Violet clicked, regretting never taking the eldest seriously with her stories. Well, not when it was clear that they were more than stories.
“I didn't start living with them til i was two, and at that point I had taken some bad hits.” Onix let out a small and dry laugh, tapping her scared shell and face. “So when most saw all of us they thought I was a warrior, and given my size and species it was a far off assumption.”
Onix dropped both of her hands, taking the choker with them. She began to flip the rock over in her hands as she spoke.
“I, my other dad, took me to meet Big Mama once.”
Sky made a sound, one Violet couldn’t quite place.
“It went well. I was really little, so I don't remember much. I think I needed some kind of lesson, and Papa wanted me to learn from someone in her care?” Onix continued on, ignoring the others. “Then, a few years later, Papa made a choice. Dad was brought in, and you all where mutated.”
Violet startled then went still. Sky let out an accule gasp this time, Oreo blinking mutely.
“You guys were so young, I was so young. I didn’t have all the words to tell Dad or Papa what was happening, ” Onix choked back a breath, Oreo lunging for to give her a hug. Onix held Oreo up, lost in her own mind as she continued to speak.
“An accent happened. That’s why we all look like this. Dad kept us safe, he took us out of harm's way. He taught me how to read and speak japanese and english as i thought all of you how to speak the common-”
Onix was crying now, big tears rolling down her cheeks. Violet sniffed. Admitly was crying contagious. Sky came forward, leaning over her unscared shoulder and giving her a hug.
Violet also got up, taking her other side and nuzzling into the crook of her neck.
Onix curled around Oreo, sobs muffled by Oreo as the youngest hugged the eldest tight. Sky and Violet shared a look. Sky offred a lazy smile, then burrowed into Onixs cheek, mumbling something to her.
Violet gave their own smile, no matter how unnatural it came to them, They ducked their own head into Onixs cheek, humming a song she had always sung to them whenever any of them had a nightmare.
(*Eeww Onix you're covered in bug guts!*
“its not on me is it? ew ew ew get it off! Violet! stop laughing and help me!”)

a snow wedding | young!corioulanus x fem!reader
a/n: you'll never guess who officiates their wedding lmao
word count: 1.8k (i could have gone on for like 10k honestly weddings are so fun to writ)
content warnings: ooc!coriolanus, coryo is nicer in my fics than the book/movie (more of the coriolanus at the start of the movie tbh), some hinting at bedroom festivites
You know,” you looked in the mirror at your maid of honor. “I always thought you and Coryo would be the two at the end of the aisle reciting vows.”
Clemensia choked on her mimosa, laughter bubbling over the glass. “The way he’s always looked at you? Absolutely no doubt in my mind you two would end up together.” She replied, setting the flute over and walking over to you.
You peered over at the pristine white gown hanging up, still just as beautiful as when you picked it out two months ago.
Coriolanus had proposed almost a year ago, wanting nothing more than to finally call you Mrs. Snow. “It would make me the happiest man in the Capitol, the country.”
You nodded furiously, watching as he slid the exquisite gold band adorned with a halo of small diamonds around a larger stone. It was a lavish ring, one you assumed he had ruminated over after securing a permanent position in the Citadel alongside Dr. Gaul.
A knock on the door broke up the conversation between the two women, Tigris popping her head into the makeshift bridal suite. “Just checking to see if you need anything before I go down to meet Grandma’am.”
“Tigris, this gown is to die for!” Clemensia praised the tailor, whose cheeks flushed like she had spent weeks in the sun.
“It’s just something I threw together.”
“Oh, don’t be modest, Tigris. It’s one of the most beautiful designs I’ve seen some out of your studio.” You smiled, pulling Tigris into the room more. “But I do have one thing you might have to help me with.”
“What might that be?”
You gestured to the gown, spinning to look at the two most important women in your life. “Can you ladies help me get into this dress? The corset looks like a game Coryo would make up in the Games.”
Clemensia laughed, and Tigris clapped enthusiastically, setting her purse on the pristine couch in the corner.
-----
Coriolanus messed with the cuff links he had purchased for the day exclusively, looking at the small photograph of his mother he kept in his wallet. It was new for him, carrying a wallet around.
He had only a few things in there, his Citadel ID card, a few hundred dollars—pocket change for him nowadays—and the crumbled notebook paper he had written his vows on one day in the lab while Dr. Gaul met with President Ravenstill and Dean Highbottom.
They were messy, lines crossed out and words in the margins, and Coriolanus was fairly certain his sweaty palm had rubbed a few lines into illegible scribbles. He wouldn’t need them, though, he’s stared at this paper for weeks, the words engrained into his mind for the rest of his days.
He looked up when he heard a knock on his door, his best man stepping into the room.
“You just about ready?” Festus asked, looking around at the mostly bare room. “I think your grandmother is about ready to charge into the bridal suite and wed the two of you.”
If asked who he would think would be his best man at his wedding, Coriolanus Snow would never have said Festus Creed, but after the 10th Hunger Games and his short Peacekeeping stint, the two grew close, something akin to friendship.
“It was Grandma’am’s idea to have an evening ceremony.” Coriolanus muttered mostly to himself, but he tucked his wallet and vows back into his pocket, nodding at the curly-haired man.
“I am ready.”
-----
Delicately rubbing your sweaty palm on your dress, you peered through the small opening between two columns, trying to get a peek at your soon-to-be husband.
“Oh, you’ll see him soon enough!” Lysistrata Vickers smiled at you, bringing you into a hug.
You, Clemensia, and Lysistrata had all grown closer after your mentorship in the Games, going so far as to become friends and spend weekend trips in Districts One and Two on occasion.
“I haven’t seen him all weekend, Lyssie! He wouldn’t even tell me what color his suit is. All I know is that it complements his eyes, and I got that from Tigris!”
Clemensia and Lysistrata shared a knowing look, having seen Coriolanus’ tuxedo as they wished him a good morning in passing.
“He looks exquisite, I hope that makeup is waterproof because I know you’ll be a puddle as soon as you see him!”
Your grin nearly split your face in two, preparing to seal your fate as a Snow.
Clemensia took your hand and gave it a squeeze, stepping up to walk down the aisle with you since neither of your parents were able to.
Lysistrata marched down the split of chairs first, grinning ear-to-ear as she met up with her own husband, Festus downright devouring her with his eyes.
You took a deep breath as you turned around the corner, eyes dancing from one side of the room to the other.
You and Coriolanus wanted to have a smaller audience in person, with a majority of the Capitol and Districts tuning into the wedding live on TV.
Dr. Gaul, who you and Coriolanus had asked to officiate the wedding, had a positively radiant smile on her face, a rarity for the woman. But how could she not, her two star pupils were getting married today.
You finally locked eyes with your fiancé, you Coriolanus, your Coryo. Most would take the look on his face for a smirk, but you knew the man you were about to marry, you knew he was holding back a million-watt smile.
Before you knew it, you were at the end of the aisle, Clemensia squeezing your hand and taking the bouquet of red and white roses, giving you the chance to smooth the skirt of your gown.
“Hi.” You whispered, cheeks beginning to ache from your smile.
Coriolanus chuckled softly, taking both of your hands in his own, giving them a squeeze. “Hi, gorgeous.”
Dr. Gaul, who was perhaps the only one close enough to hear the small greetings, looked at you both to make sure it was okay for her to begin.
“Today, we are here to celebrate the union of two of Panem’s most important people, two people who I have gotten to know throughout their time at the Academy, University, and mentorship.”
The ceremony was shorter than some other weddings you had been to, with you and Coriolanus wanting to share vows in private, not wanting the nation to listen in, wanting to keep some things between the two of you.
Before you knew it, Dr. Gaul was announcing you two as the Snows, the crowd erupting into cheers as you and Coriolanus shared your first kiss as a married couple.
-----
With the ceremony over, you and Coriolanus had a short period of time before the reception, taking place in one of the grandest ballrooms in the Capitol. There would be more people at the reception than there were at the ceremony, with Coriolanus getting ready to run for election in the coming months, so you knew you had to be on your best behavior and help pull the votes in for your husband.
“What’re you thinking about, wife?” Coriolanus asked, lovesick smile on his face as he referred to you as his wife for the first time.
“Hmm?” You asked, shaking your head like an Etch-a-Sketch. “Nothing, just how lucky I am that you’re my husband.”
“Oh? I thought I was the lucky one.” Coriolanus replied, leaning in to kiss you in the back of the luxury car, which was taking you to the reception hall.
You couldn’t help the blush that tinted your cheeks. “Coryo,” you murmured, slipping off the bright red heels you had picked out to wear to the reception, Coriolanus grinning up at you from between your legs as you had brought the idea up one night a few weeks ago.
“How does it feel, to be a Snow?” Coriolanus asked, knowing glint in his eyes.
“Feels like Im worth a million bucks.”
Coriolanus laughed, fixing his bowtie as the car pulled up to the entrance, groaning when he saw Lucky Flickerman and his parade of cameras.
You knew better than to say anything to the weatherman-turned-host, leaving it all up to Coriolanus, who greeted the cameras with a stiff smile and a “it feels wonderful, something I’ve always dreamt of” when asked how it felt being married.
Entering the reception, you and Coriolanus were greeted with cheers, clapping, and a few wolf whistles.
You two did first rounds greeting the more important people in the room, people you two had known since you were both children.
Tigris squealed so loud you and Coriolanus both winced at the pitch, but laughed as she clapped and hugged you two. “Officially part of the family! I’ve always wanted a sister!”
“Tigris, we aren’t even siblings.” Coriolanus chuckled, hand around your waist and thumb rubbing back and forth soothingly.
You lightly slapped the man’s chest. “Oh, hush. She’s been a sister to me since we first started dating.”
Tigris took your hand, admiring the new addition to your left ring finger. Next to the engagement ring now sat a white gold wedding band, matching the one that now adorned Coriolanus’ left hand.
You promised to have a girl’s night with Tigris as Coriolanus dragged you away, knowing you two would be talking all night if he didn’t break up the conversation while there was a lull.
The two of you ended up in front of Casca Highbottom, who was unusually well-groomed, beard tame and hair gelled. “Well, I guess you can thank me for this.”
“Pardon?” You asked, feeling Coriolanus tense at the elder’s words.
“If it wasn’t for my thinking of the Hunger Games, you two would never have spoken a word to each other.”
Coriolanus did nothing more than give a short smile to the man, thanking him for his wedding gift before you two left him to his morphling and posca.
“Why did you invite him, Coryo?” You asked, finally being able to sit for a moment.
“It would have looked bad to not have my father’s best friend here. The man technically did is the reason we’re where we are now.”
You shrugged, agreeing with Coriolanus. “Come on, I want some cake.”
Coriolanus laughed, following you towards the four-tiered red-velvet cake.
------
Collapsing onto the bed, you sighed contently as you toed off the red heels you had been dancing in all night.
“What do you think, shall we spend our first night married as we did the last night as an unmarried couple?” Coriolanus asked, already shedding his clothing.
“Oh, I like the way you think.” You smiled, sitting up. “But you have to help me undo this corset before anything.”

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tony Stark x Reader
Words: 4.479.
Summary: Tony and Y/N have a friends with benefit situation. But what happens when someone wants more and the other don't?
Warning/Content: angst, fluff.
MASTERLIST
A/N: This is my first time writting a Tony x Reader. Dividers by @cafekitsune <3
Fury was on her, wanting the reports from last mission. And obviously, the only person who hadn’t finished yet was Stark. Somehow, Fury thought that if someone could make him do it, it would be Y/N. And that’s how she ended up in his lab.
Tony was sitting in his chair, doing absolutely nothing with a glass of whiskey in his hand. He looked at her with his usual smirk “What’s bring you here, Y/L/N?”
“Have you finished your report from the last mission, Stark?” She asks, walking closer to his desk.
He let out a sigh, running a hand through his messy hair “No, not yet. Why?”
“Fury needs it. And he’s been waiting for it for two days now.” Y/N knew how Tony was and how much he hated to make those reports. In the end, she always ends up finishing for him.
Tony rolled his eyes, taking a sip from his glass “I'll finish it, but not right now. I'm in the middle of something.”
“Yeah, I can see it.” She glares at him, before she starts going through the giant amount of paper on his desk.
Tony stops put his glass down on the desk and looks at her with a small smirk “Are you really here to talk about the reports?”
“Yes.” She finally found it.
“And are you sure that's the only reason you're here?” His smirks didn’t flatter.
Y/N grabs the file in her hands “Yes.” That’s all she said before she turns around without looking at him and left his lab.
Tony watched as she walked away from him, without any further comment. Obviously, given their situation, he found it a bit weird.
Tumblr media
The next day, Y/N was in her room when she heard a knock on her door. She open it, seeing Tony standing there.
“Yes?”
The man leaned against the doorway, with a small smile that he saved just for her when they were alone “I need to go to the mall, buy a few things. Wanna tag along?”
Her face turn to an apologetic one “Sorry, I’m not feeling very well...”
“You feel sick?” He asked her and she could noticed the worry in his voice.
“No, not. Just a small headache, nothing major...but thanks for the invitation anyway.” She gave him a small smile.
Tony was a bit reluctant to believe her but didn't want to press further “Yeah, ok. Rest well.”
“Thanks.” She gently closes the door. He stood there for a few seconds, worried, before he walked away.
Tumblr media
The next time something like that happened, it was after movie night with the team. Everyone said good night after the movie ended, leaving just the two of them in the living room. Y/N slowly got up from the couch “I’m going to bed too.”
Tony quickly got up too, grabbing her arm gently and smirk “Why don't we go to mine?”
Again, the apologetic expression crossed her face “I’m on my period. Sorry.”
His smirk dropped slightly as his grip loosened and his hand fall from her arm “Oh...”
Y/N gave a small apologetic smile “Night, Stark.”
He nods “Night, Y/L/N.”
Tumblr media
Tony thought it was just a coincidence, but he noticed that she looked like she was avoiding being alone with him. It had been more than a week since they had sex and every time he tried, she just had some short of excuse.
He waited until she finished her training and cornered her when she was leaving the room. “Y/L/N, we need to talk.”
Y/N stops and look at him “Sure.”
He looked around to see if anyone was around and he crossed his arms “Have I done something to you?”
“No.” She made a confused face as she looked at him.
He studied her features for a moment, before he spoke again, a little lower “You've been avoiding me lately...”
“No, I’m not.”
Stark stepped closer to her “Then explain why you're avoiding spending time with me alone.”
Y/N gave him a small smile “I’m not. Really.”
“Then why did you always have some sort of excuse each time I ask you to hang out just the two of us?”
She looked at his face and could see that he was somewhat hurt by her actions “I told you, I wasn't feeling well one day, and the other one I was in my period.”
He didn’t really believe her “What about the other time at the lab? You came, got some paper, and were gone in a second. You didn't even try to engage with me.”
“I was busy with the report you didn’t finish. Fury needed that.” She explains and hoped he would buy it.
Clearly he didn’t. “Like you care about the reports. I think you're avoiding me.”
“I’m not, Tony.” She says with a gentle voice. “Why don’t you come to my room later, and we can...talk.” She smirks at the last word.
“Alright, I'll come...” He said, before walking away back to his room, excited for what he could only assume was going to happen tonight.
As soon as she noticed he had left, her smirk dropped “Fuck...”
Y/N didn’t know what to do. Yes, she had been avoiding him. They had this friend with benefits things, and she knew from the start that it was all that was and it couldn’t be more. But she had catch feelings for the billionaire and she didn’t know what to do.
Later, Y/N was sitting on her bed with her laptop in her lap finishing another report for Fury when she heard a soft knock on her door.
“Come in!” She says without moving from her spot.
Tony opened the door and walked in, a smirk on his face “Hey, sweetheart.”
She smiles looking at him “Hey.”
He walked to the bed, sitting down next to her, he was wearing just a tank top and sweatpants “So, you wanted to...talk.”
Y/N chuckles softly, closing her laptop and putting on her nightstand. Tony leaned against the headboard, and pulled her onto his lap “You know, the way you were acting today had me a bit worried for a second. I thought I'd done something to upset you...”
“You’ve done nothing.” She smiles.
He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close to him, his lips next to her ear “Good, I'm glad...” he began peppering light kisses on her neck and began to kiss down her neck, and to her shoulder, his hands slowly running up and down her waist and thighs. She just froze, she didn’t know what do to. Yes, she wanted sex with him, but her heart was screaming at her.
Tony felt the tension in her body and he pulled away slightly, worried “You okay, sweetie?”
“Yeah...” She tried to mask it with a smile, but Tony could notice on her voice something was wrong.
His hands came up to cup her face, keeping her looking at him “You feel a bit tense. Talk to me...” Her smile slightly drops and that worried him even more “Y/N, what's wrong?”
“I’m sorry...” Her voice was almost a whisper “I don’t think I can do this anymore...”
“It's okay. We can do this another time.” He says with his hand rubbing her side to comfort her.
“No, I didn’t mean like that.”
Tony frowned and looked into her eyes “Then what do you mean?”
Y/N sighs, before she spoke again “I can’t do this...” she points between them.
His heart ached a bit at her words “You don't want this anymore?”
“I'm sorry...” she says, getting off his lap and sitting by his side with her hands in her lap.
He stayed sitting on the bed, looking at her, trying to hide the sadness that was building inside of him “Why? I thought...I thought things were good between us...”
Y/N looked at him and she could see the pain on his face “It is...was...I swear it was.”
“Then...why are you ending this? What changed? What did I do, huh?” he was trying to stay calm, but it was hard. He wanted answers.
“You did nothing wrong.” She smiles sadly at him.
“Then why? Do...do you not want me?” He let out a shaky breath, his eyes met hers again.
“I do. And that’s the problem.” Her voice was low as she spoke.
That made Stark was more confused now “Why is that a problem? I want you too.”
“Because I want more.”
There was silence. He took a few seconds trying to gather his thought before answering her with a frow on his face “But, we agreed from the start that-”
“I know.” she cuts him “And that's why I'm ending this.”
Tony et out a frustrated breath, running a hand through his hair “Y/N, I care about you, but that's- I can't give you what you want...”
“I know.” She says and he could hear the sadness on her voice. He hated knowing that he was hurting her with his words, but he couldn't give her what she wanted.
After a few minutes of silence, he spoke again “Do you regret us?”
“No.” she smiles, looking at him, still with a hint of sadness “Never.”
He reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers “Me neither, sweetheart...”
Y/N looked down at their hands together “I mean, we still can do the friends part.”
Stark chuckled sadly, bringing their intertwined hands to his lips “Can friendship really be enough?”
“It has to be.” She whispers.
He sighed, hating the way this conversation was going “You know I care a lot about you. I just...I don't do relationships anymore, not after...”
“I know.” She squeezes his hand slightly “And that’s why I’m not asking for it.”
“This suck, you know. I'm losing someone I care about, and I hate myself for it.” he ran a hand through his hair frustrated.
Y/N was feeling her eyes filling up with tears, and she blinks, trying to fight it “Believe me, this is much harder for me.”
“It's hard for both of us, okay?”he said a bit harshly before immediately regretting it “Fuck...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap.”
She shakes her head, not wanting to cry in front of him “No, it isn't. You care about me when I...I fell in love.”
The moment he heard those words, his heart ached even more. He wasn't sure what to say to that... so for a while, he just stayed silent, fiddling with her fingers. His jaw was clenched as he tried to control the emotions coursing through his body...he felt like a terrible person, knowing that he could not return her feelings. “I...I wish I could give you what you want. I really do...”
“Me too...”
Tony let out a shaky breath and squeezed the hand of hers that he was still holding. Even though he knew it probably wasn't a good idea, he pulled her a bit closer to him, resting his head on her shoulder “We can still be friends, right?”
Y/N rest her head on his “Of course.”
For a while, he let himself just feel the comfort of being close to her. But then he pulled away, reluctantly letting go of her hand and getting up from the bed “I should go...” Y/N just nods, not trusting her voice to answer.  He looked down at her for a moment before leaning down and placing a feather-like kiss on her forehead. Part of him wanted to pull her into his arms and never let her go, but instead, he straightened up and without another word, he walked out of her room.
“Night, Stark...” She says, holding back her tears, knowing that after he left, they would never be this close again.
“Goodnight, Y/L/N.” He said without looking back, knowing that the sight of her sad face would tear his heart even more.
Tony walked down the hallway and into his room, walking straight to the mini fridge and grabbing a bottle of liquor. He sat down on the couch but didn't open the bottle just yet. Instead, he buried his head in his hands and let all his bottled-up emotions flood out of his every pore for what felt like hours. He sat there for hours, trying to get himself under control. But the mere idea that the one person he was closest to in the Tower was no longer his... that he had no right to touch, kiss, or hold... he grabbed the bottle of liquor, taking a long sip, as a single thought echoed in his mind ‘You're a complete idiot, Stark.’
Y/N stood in her bed, bringing her knees to her chest and finally letting the tears fload after Tony left until she eventually cried herself to sleep. In just a few minutes, Tony finished the first bottle and opened the second, the words she said earlier echoed in his mind. I fell in love.
Tumblr media
The first week had been rough for both of them. They were avoiding each other, which mean they were avoiding the kitchen, the common room, the training room. While Y/N was more quiet than usual and saying she was suffering from allergies to justify that sometimes her eyes and nose were red, Tony just was in a incredible bad mood all the time. The team watched the whole situation with worry and confusion. Everyone knew there was something wrong with Tony, usually when he was in a bad mood, he would go around the tower, annoying and trying to get a reaction out of everyone. But now, he was practically avoiding any interaction.
--
Tony was in the kitchen, enjoying the silence with a coffee in his hand, when Clint, Thor and Steve entered and stopped in front of him. He let out a tired sigh, knowing that wouldn’t be good “What do you all want?”
Thor studied his face, before speaking “I know that look.”
“What look?”
“That look” Thor points at him “The same one I had when Jane broke up with me.”
Tony rolled his eyes, annoyed with the direction the conversation was going “I don't know what you're talking about. I'm fine.”
“Yeah, Thor.” Clint started “That would imply that Stark was dating someone.”
“Yes, thank you for that useless addition, bird brain.” Tony rolled his eyes as he leaned against the counter, taking a sip of his coffee “So, are you all just going to keep staring at me, or you have something to say?”
Steve spoke this time “What's going on, Tony? And don't say nothing, because we all know that you're not fine.”
Stark groaned, his shoulders slumping a bit “Just...it's nothing, alright? Can you just leave it be?”
This time it was Clint who spoke “No, because obviously something is happening. Or had happened.”
He took a deep breath, trying to control his temper “Can you just drop this? I just...I don't want to talk about her.”
“Oh, so it is a woman?” Thor ask curious.
He pinched the bridge of his nose “Damn it, yes, Thor. It was a woman, okay?”
There was a moment of silence, Thor and Clint sharing a knowing look while Steve just stared at him “Well, what happened?”
Despite himself, Tony’s voice trembled a bit when he spoke “She...she told me she wanted more. And I couldn't give her what she wanted. So we...we just ended things.” He took a gulp of his coffee to try and hide the turmoil he was still feeling “It's done, alright? It's over, and there's nothing that can be changed. Can we please just drop it?”
The three of them study him, before Steve spoke in a gentle tone “You love her” It wasn't a question.
Tony didn't even try to deny it this time. He let out a shaky breath and nodded, his eyes downcast “Yeah. I do.”
“She loves you, right?” Steve asked “Since you said she wanted more, I thought...”
He nodded and chuckled bitterly “That's the funny part. She does. But i made it clear from the start that I couldn't give her what she wanted. And we agreed to keep it casual. But...she said she still fell in love with me.
“Arrangements can be changed.” Thor says.
“It's not that simple, Thor.” Tony let out a tired sigh “What she wants...a serious relationship, commitment, all of that...I can't give her that.”
“Why not? What are you so afraid of?” Steve was the one who spoke this time.
“I'm not...” he starts to deny but stop mid-sentence and let out a frustrated breath “I'm not afraid.” he paused for a moment, looking over at Steve before continuing “I'm...I'm a mess, alright? I have demons that still haunt me, nightmares that don't let me sleep more than a few hours. I can be a dick in general and I...I haven't done the whole "relationship" thing in years. I can't get involved in that again.”
“Don't you remember the last time he dated Pepper?” Clint says to Steve “He looked like hell after they broke up.”
Tony rolls his eyes “Thanks a lot, bird brain, for remind me about one of the most painful times of my life.”
Thor nods, agreeing “Yeah, you were just a little worse than you are now. The only thing that took you out of the misery was Y/N moving here and you becoming friends.” Steve and Clint looked at Thor.
Tony groaned, realizing Thor was absolutely right. He never said it out loud, but deep down, he knew that the only reason he hadn't completely lost his brain after the whole Pepper situation, was Y/N. Having her around, being her friend, helped a lot during those dark months. He rubbed his eyes, suddenly feeling the exhaustion again “What's the point of this conversation, guys? Even if I wanted too, it's too late now. She ended things because I didn't want to give her more than what we had.”
“The question here is simple: Do you wanna give her what she wants?” Barton asked him.
Stark looks at him for a moment, before answering slowly and honestly “Yes...I do.”
Steve puts a hand on his shoulder “Then talk to her. I'm sure she'll listen.”
He chuckled bitterly “It's funny that you think it's that simple. We ended things weeks ago and we've been avoiding each other ever since. You really think she'll want to talk to me now?”
“If you’re talking about who I think you’re talking...she’ll listen.” Clint says. Obviously, after Thor made that comment, Barton and Rogers realized who he was talking about.
And if everything couldn’t get worse, Y/N walked into the kitchen to get some water just in that moment, but she stops seeing Tony and the guys. She knew if she turned back, it would be suspicious, so she walked to the fridge to get her water “Hi...”
Tony’s body tenses as soon as he saw her, his heart starting to pound hard on his chest. He quickly stands up from where he was resting his back against the counter, his eyes fixed on her. “Hey...”
The three other Avengers made some lame excuses and left them alone. Tony stayed in his spot against the counter, watching the other members of the team leave the kitchen. Silence fell between them as they both stood a few feet apart from each other.
“So... how’s it going?” Y/N spoke quietly, trying to make some small talk.
“Like crap...” Tony didn't want to lie or pretend to be fine, and he knew she wouldn't believe it anyway. So he decided to go for honesty “How about you?”
“Same.”
He didn't like the tiredness in her voice, and he hated that he was responsible for it “You're not sleeping well either, right?” Y/N just answers with a head shake. He sighs softly, his heart clenching at the thought that she was suffering with the situation between them as much as he was “Same here...”
“What a duo, huh?” She gave him a sad smile.
Despite the situation, he chuckled softly “Yeah...” there was a moment of silence between them before he spoke again “You're avoiding me...”
“I am...I needed a bit of space.” There was a minute of silence before she spoke again “You're avoiding me too...”
He looked down for a few seconds, ashamed with himself “I...yeah, I know. I just...I didn't know if you wanted to see me...or if you would want to talk to me...”
“Tony...” she walks closer to him, putting her water aside “I'm not mad at you or anything. I was sincere when I said we could still be friend.”
As she walked closer to him, he looked at her face carefully, noticing the dark circles under her eyes. He clenched his jaw tightly as a wave of guilt washed over him. “You're not sleeping.” it wasn't a question, it was more a statement of his realization.
Y/N rolls her eyes “Have you heard a word I said?”
Despite everything, one thing he had missed the most was her eye-rolling, and he felt a tiny sense of relief as she did it now “I heard you. I also notice that you're looking like a zombie. You should be sleeping.”
“You should be too. And not drinking.”
He chuckled bitterly “Yeah, well. I sleep better after I drink. It helps with the nightmares.”
“...they came back?” Y/N’s face softens, she knew about his nightmares.
“Yes, a couple days after...we ended things.” He looked down, avoiding saying the word 'break up' because he still didn't want to believe that's what really had happened.
“Are you okay?”
Tony lifts his head, his eyes meeting hers. As much as he wanted to lie and say that he was fine, he wasn't able to do it “No, I'm not...truth is, I haven't been okay at all since you end things with me. I'm...I'm a mess, really. I drink every night, I can't sleep more than a few hours each night, and...and I miss you. I miss you so damn much.” He paused for a moment, closing his eyes and trying to control the emotions he was feeling and the words he was saying, but he continued “I know I shouldn't be doing this. I shouldn't be telling you all of this. I have no right...but I do miss you. I miss our nights together, our movie nights...and most of all, I miss talking to you, having you by my side...and I can't lie and say I don't miss being with you...” he laughed bitterly “Hell, I miss us...I should have never let you go...I should have...I should have said yes. I should have said yes to everything you wanted. But I was scared...”
“Scared of what...?” She asks without looking away from him.
“Scared of committing, scared of being in a relationship again, being trapped...terrified of ending up like I did after Pepper broke up with me...” He let out a strangled breath “I was so goddamn terrified of losing myself again, of having my heart broken again, that I ended up pushing the only person who was willing to be with me, away. And what the hell was the point since I end up breaking my own heart anyway...”
“You said 'was'...” she spoke quietly.
Tony looked at her again, his eyes going wide in realization of what he said. “Yes...”his voice was barely above a whisper, but he didn't look away from her “I said 'was'...” He could see the look on her face becoming almost a hopeful one. “I was terrified...” he repeated, as he moved so he was standing right in front of her. He hesitantly reached out his hands to touch hers and she did not pull back.
A tiny sigh of relief escaped his lips as she let him touch her, her hands so much smaller than his. He gently laced their fingers together, rubbing his thumb on the back of her hands and Tony took a deep breath before continuing “I know what I want...and I want you. I want us...everything. I wanna take you out on dates, I wanna sleep with you and see you pretty face when I wake up. I want to watch silly movies with you, and laugh at your silly comments. I wanna be with you when you're not feeling well...I want everything. Hell, I want to marry you, I want a family...I want a future and I can't see one without you on it.” he paused for a moment, but continued in a soft whisper “And the most important thing...I want to make you happy. I want to make you smile and laugh every single day. I want to give you everything I have, everything I am...hell, I want to give you the goddamn moon if that's what you want. But most of all...I want to give you my heart...because you're the only one I trust with it...”
Y/N didn’t answer, she just cupped his face in her hands and kissed him. The moment her lips brushed against his, he groaned loudly before cupping her face with his hands and pulling her even closer, the kiss becoming more and more urgent and frantic as he let out all the pent-up feelings and emotions through it. She parted the kiss, but didn't pull back “Are you sure?”
Tony rested his forehead against hers, his eyes still closed and his breathing becoming more ragged as he tried to regain control over himself. He opened his eyes and looked at her face, one of his hands moving to brush against her cheeks “Never been more sure of anything in my life, sweetheart.”
He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before continuing “Y/N Y/L/N...will you be my girlfriend?”
Y/N smile and nods “Yes.” He let out another breath of relief, a huge wave of happiness washing over his entire body.
They stayed in that position for a few seconds before he leaned in to kiss her again, this time the kiss was gentle and unrushed. “God, I missed you so much...”
“I missed you too...”
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace, her face resting on his chest and his face buried in her hair. He took a deep breath, relishing in the feeling of having her in his arms once again, and the realization that it wouldn't just be a fling. It was real, it was more than physical desire. He cared for her, he loved her, and she was his “I love you.”
Y/N smiles “Say it again...”
Tony smiles at her request “I love you.” he says, gently pulling her face away from his chest so he could look directly in her eyes “I'm in love with you...And I plan on saying it every damn day for the rest of our lives.”

This Sure as Hell Never Happened on Scooby-Doo
While investigating a fairly routine haunting in a Michigan hotel, Sam and Dean come face to face with a creature unlike any they've faced before. [Takes place around mid season 1 for SPN, and at a non-specific point in the DP timeline]
Written for @crossoverdanuary Week, Day 7: Supernatural | Veil
First off, congrats to Supernatural for finally making the main prompt list after two years of being an honorable mention lol. I had a lot of trouble coming up with an idea for this one for some reason, so it ended up being kind of generic. This is, however, the first time I've ever written the Full Hazmat AU, which was pretty exciting.

[Warning for minor violence, and references to suicide throughout]
As a general rule, hunters steered clear of Amity Park, although the reason why varied from one to another.
Some believed all the so-called supernatural occurrences there were just a hoax, like Bigfoot, so there was no point wasting valuable time and energy looking into them. Others swore up and down that, hoax or not, there was something about that town that made you see things. Impossible things. Things that made even the most experienced hunters pause. Some simply believed that Amity Park could take care of itself. Outside interference would only cause more problems than it would solve.
Then there were those who believed that Amity Park, that the very town itself, didn't want them there. That hunters were just not welcome.
The town was infamous in the hunter community. Grizzled, plaid-wearing men would talk about it at roadhouses and truck-stop diners. They'd warn other people away, tell them not to even drive through it on their way to somewhere else. There was nothing in that town worth dying for, and they took care of their own. Hunters weren't needed, they weren't wanted, and they'd just do better if they stayed away.
Every once in a while though, Amity Park's unique brand of freaky bled out of that isolated town. And when it did, then it became the hunters' problem. Unfortunately, more often than not, they wouldn't know it until it was too late.
Sam and Dean were investigating a supposedly haunted hotel. Staff and guests they'd spoken to had all reported blinking lights, cold spots, scratching in the walls. The staff seemed content to blame it on the owner's unwillingness to spend money to fix or update anything. The guests, on the other hand, not so much.
Those who stayed overnight reported horrible nightmares about bleeding out from their wrists. Some of them even claimed to have seen things, although they couldn't seem to agree on what they saw. A few saw a woman, covered in blood from slit writs, and crying, who vanished in the blink of an eye. But another claimed to have seen a small figure in a partially melted hazmat suit.
"Could there be more than one?" Sam asked when they'd returned to their own room in the hotel.
It was more expensive than the crappy motels they usually stayed it, but it was more convenient, and it gave them an excuse to wander around if they were actually staying there.
"Maybe, but... I don't know. If someone committed suicide in the hotel, it makes sense that their spirit would linger," Dean said. "I just can't think of any reason why there would be a ghost in a hazmat suit. Can you?"
"If the building used to be some kind of lab or research facility, it's possible," Sam said, "But this hotel was established back in the late thirties, and even if there was a research facility here before the hotel, the hazmat suit he described was much more modern than they would have worn back then."
Dean scoffed as he plopped down on his bed.
"Of course, leave it to my nerd brother to know what hazmat suits looked like in the thirties," Dean mocked. "Seriously though, that second ghost just doesn't make any kind of sense."
"We'll know more once we find info about anyone whose died in this hotel," Sam said. "This place has been in business for almost seventy years, I'm sure we'll have plenty to wade through."
"It could have been that guy was just making up a story," Dean said. "We've got three people claiming they saw a woman who disappeared, but only one mentioned the hazmat suit. Maybe he was messing with us."
"He seemed pretty shaken up about it," Sam said. "I didn't think he was lying."
"I didn't either, but...." Dean shook his head thoughtfully. "Something about that story just doesn't sit right. And you know what else? That redheaded girl who got all defensive when we started acting questions. Something doesn't sit right about her, either. She acted like she was responsible, or trying to protect the person who was. Except we already know this is a haunting. We know there's at least one ghost, so why did she act like that?"
"I don't know," Sam said. "Could be she was trying to hide something else."
"Maybe...."
"Come on," Sam said. "Let's start by combing through local death records at the library."
"You go ahead," Dean told him. "I wanna talk to that girl's parents, see if they know anything. I'm starting to think there might be more to this case than just a standard haunting."
"Fine. We'll meet back here later."
"So, what'd you find?" Dean asked when his brother got back to their room.
"Okay, so get this," Sam began. "There have been several deaths in this hotel. A couple of heart attacks, a couple of accidents. One guy fell out his window, which caused the hotel to seal all the windows on the upper floors shut so they couldn't be opened. There have also been three suicides since the hotel's founding.
"A World War 2 vet shot himself in the head in December of 1945, just a few months after the war ended; A girl OD'ed in 1963, leaving a note about how the state of the world had made her unwilling to live in it; and lastly, a woman in 1992 slit her wrists in room 201 after her husband divorced her, blaming her for the murder of their only son."
"Sounds like we've ID'ed our first ghost," Dean noted. "We got a name?"
"Jennifer Bishop," Sam said. "She was accused of murdering her son, but never convicted because they never actually found the body, only a whole lot of blood they identified with DNA testing. She defended her innocence until her death, but the police never actually investigated anyone else for her son's disappearance and presumed death. Once she offed herself, they just closed the case."
"Another gold standard of police incompetence," Dean said. "Did you find out where she was buried?"
"Her family was catholic, but since she committed suicide, they couldn't bury her in their family plot at their church. Instead, she was buried in a public cemetery, Lincoln Memorial Park... but it's in her hometown: Petoskey, Michigan. She was only here for the trial."
"Great, so we gotta drive all night to get to friggin' Petoskey," Dean moaned. "Awesome. This is why hotel ghosts suck. Did you find any leads on hazmat suit?"
"Nothing. What about you?" Sam asked. "Get anything useful interviewing that red-headed girl's parents?"
"Nah," Dean said, shaking his head. "Remember those hellhoundslair dorks?"
Sam nodded.
"That's what they were like," he continued. "Overenthusiastic, but incompetent. She probably realized we were asking about ghosts and was nervous they'd overhear. While I was talking to them she reminded them they'd promised not to hunt any ghosts while their family was on vacation. They didn't seem too happy about that, but they at least stopped insisting they'd help me 'catch that slippery specter', so that was something, I guess.
"I did learn she has a younger brother, though. I didn't get to talk to him, but when I was leaving, I overheard the two kids talking, and he said something like, 'there's not enough of her there to talk to', and 'there's not a whole lot left of her at all," Dean finished. "Not sure what that was all about, but it seemed like they were trying to keep it on the down-low, especially from their parents."
"You think it could be related?" Sam asked.
"As far as I know, the brother never promised not to hunt ghosts," Dean replied with a shrug. "That and a gut feeling are pretty much all I have to base it on, though."
"Well, we know who our suicide is, at least," Sam said. "One of us should go take care of Jennifer Bishop while the other stays here in case she starts causing anymore trouble, or in case the hazmat ghost shows up again, if its even real."
"Why don't you take the salt-and-burn this time," Dean suggested.
Sam froze and looked at his brother, completely shocked. "You... want me to take your car and drive two hundred miles away... by myself?"
"And if you bring her back with so much as a scratch on her, I'll make you wish you were never born," Dean said. "But I feel like there's something at this hotel that I'm missing, and I'm gonna stick around until I figure it out."
"It's really bugging you, huh?" Sam noted. "Alright, well... it's a three hour drive, so I'd better get going."
"Yeah, and don't forget to fill up the tank on your way back."
"Yeah, yeah," Sam said as he walked out the door.
They'd already brought some weapons from the trunk into the hotel room, so Dean wouldn't be unarmed if he ran into one of the ghosts.
He did some quick math in his head. The ghost, or ghosts, probably wouldn't show up until it was night. Sam had a six-hour round trip, plus a good hour to dig up old Jennifer, probably longer, since he wouldn't have help. It was early afternoon now. 1:18 pm, a glance at the clock told him, so he could expect Sam back around nine-ish, give or take an hour. Sunset was around seven.
Jennifer would be gone well before nightfall... but that other ghost... if it even existed, they didn't have a single lead on it.
Dean headed down to the lobby.
He'd noticed them yesterday, a group of older ladies with a basket of yarn in the middle of them, chatting up a storm. He and Sam hadn't spoken to them yesterday, but now that Sam was gone, it was time for Dean to dial up a very particular type of charm that Sam would tease him for mercilessly if he ever saw it. He stood nearby, waiting for his moment.
"I swear," one lady said. "I turned up my thermostat four times last night. I had it cranked all the way up to ninety, and I could hear the radiator groaning like anything, but my room was still freezing."
"Did you phone the concierge?" another lady said.
"I tried, but they just apologized and said it's an old hotel," replied the first. "Didn't even offer to send a handyman, or move me to a different room or anything. Anyway, that's why started coming down here during the day. I just can't stand it."
That was his chance. "You too?" he asked her. "Which room are you in?"
"I'm in 201, why?"
Bingo. 201. The same room as their suicide victim.
"Well, it got to a point where I got my tools outta my car and just fixed the darn radiator myself," Dean lied. "I could take a look at yours too, if you'd like."
"Would you?" she asked, sounding beyond relieved. "Oh, thank you so much. It's gotten so bad I can hardly sleep at night, so that would be a real godsend if you would do that. You're such a lamb."
"Oh, it's no problem, ma'am," Dean said, taking an empty seat nearby. "The name's Dean, by the way."
"I'm Millie," the woman said. "And these are my friends, Cathy and Debbie. We're in town for a big doll convention. We're collectors, you know. And Debbie even makes dolls herself out of felt."
"I do, and I've gotten pretty damn good at it, if I say so myself," Debbie said. "I even made a felt baby doll for my granddaughter's birthday a few months back and she was over the moon."
Upon closer inspection, all three of the ladies seemed to be knitting or crocheting very small clothes, presumably for dolls. Hopefully he could redirect the topic of conversation back to ghosts soon, because Dean didn't know Jack about dolls.
"What about you?" asked the third woman, Cathy. "What brings you to Lansing? I assume you don't live here, or you wouldn't be staying at a hotel."
"I'm here on business," he replied, silently thanking god that she'd changed the topic for him.
"What kind of business?" Millie asked. "You said you can fix a radiator, are you some kind of technician, or construction worker?"
"Actually... I'm a private investigator," he lied.
"Oooh, exciting!" Cathy said. "What are you investigating?"
"I'm afraid I can't share the details... but maybe you ladies could help me," he said. "Have any of you seen anything strange while you've been staying here?"
"I saw a man dancing near the park who could clasp his hands behind his back and pull them all the way in front of him," Debbie said. "That was pretty strange. I gave him a dollar."
"I was thinking more like in the hotel," Dean said. "Maybe like... a figure in a hazmat suit?"
Millie gasped, and Dean fixed his gaze on her.
"You have?"
"Well... you see, I have sleep paralysis," she said. "Last night, I had only managed to fall asleep for an hour or two because it was so cold, but then I woke up in the middle of the night because my room suddenly got even colder, but I couldn't move, of course. It takes me a while to be able to move after I wake up.
"And then I saw, like you said, someone wearing a hazmat suit, a black one with white gloves. They were small, like they weren't fully grown, and they were glowing," Millie explained. "Their suit was damaged, partly melted, it looked like. I'd never seen something like that before, but I just figured it had to be a sleep paralysis hallucination, and maybe it partly was, but do you think it could have been real? That someone broke into my room last night?"
"How frightening," Debbie said with a shiver.
"Maybe," Dean said. "Maybe not. I'm not really sure yet." He paused, consideringly. That was two people now who saw the hazmat suit, and this one saw it in the same room where the other ghost had died. "Did it say anything to you? Or do anything that you saw?"
"I couldn't really turn my head, but they seemed like they were looking for something, didn't seem to find it though. Nothing was missing from my room when I finally got up, at least," Millie said. "They didn't say anything, and only looked at me for a moment. Oh! But they might've been muttering something. Not sure what it was, though."
"Thanks, that's a lot of help," Dean said. "If you think of anything else, let me know?"
"Do you think I'm in danger?" Millie asked. "Should I request a room change after all?"
"If that would make you feel safer," Dean said. "I'm not sure it's as cut and dry as a break-in... but maybe you should just stay in one of your friend's rooms for a night."
"You can stay in my room tonight, Millie," Cathy volunteered.
He stayed for a little while, chatting with them. It wasn't something he wanted getting out, but old ladies always loved him for some reason. He even managed to get Cathy's key-lime pie recipe, which the other two swore up and down was absolutely to die for. Who knew when the next time he'd have a kitchen to try it out would be, but he'd make sure to write it down next chance he got, just in case.
It wasn't until he saw that red-haired teenage girl and a short, black-haired boy who was presumably her brother walk through the lobby that he excused himself to follow after them, claiming they were persons of interest in his case.
"If you didn't find anything, how did you even know it was the right room?" the sister was asking when Dean got close enough to hear.
He was trying hard not to be noticed while he tailed them, but as quietly as they were talking, he had to stick closer than he would have liked.
"That was where her presence was the strongest," the brother answered. "I just don't know how I'm supposed to help her when she's not strong enough to speak, and we're leaving tomorrow, so tonight is my last chance."
Could he be a psychic of some kind? Maybe a medium?
He turned around abruptly, and Dean barely had time to make it look like he was examining a shop's window display of... glass baubles and nick-knacks. Oh, yeah, he definitely seemed like the type to be interested in those. Hopefully they wouldn't question it.
"Is he staying at our hotel?" the brother whispered.
"Yeah," the sister confirmed, "and he was asking about cold spots and flickering lights, too. You think he knows something?"
"I think I'd rather stay away from him," replied the brother. "He could be the dangerous type."
After that, it seemed like the kids were deliberately trying to shake him, and it wasn't long before they did, almost as if they'd simply vanished into thin air.
Dean gave up searching and returned to the hotel. He found Millie in the lobby and asked if she'd let him into her room to fix the radiator, even brought the few tools that he'd had in his room to make the story more convincing.
"Even if you don't stay in here tonight, I figure I can at least do the hotel a favor," he said.
"Well, I'll leave you to it," she said. "Don't you go snooping around in my underwear drawer," she teased, and he laughed along with her until she closed the door behind her and headed back downstairs to her knitting.
Any evidence that there had been a suicide in this room had been long since erased. It was cold, just as Millie said it was, but there didn't appear to be any problem with the radiator. One of the tools he'd brought along was an iron crowbar, and he gripped it tightly.
"Jennifer, you in here?" he called out.
The time was 5:06, meaning Sam was probably digging up her grave right now.
He got no response.
"Jennifer?" he called again. "Jennifer Bishop?"
Nothing.... he was pretty sure that kid had been saying she wasn't a very powerful ghost, maybe that was why she hadn't done much. She hadn't actually killed or even hurt anyone beyond a couple of nightmares and a cold room. Maybe she couldn't show herself during the day.
The Winchester brothers had only stopped here because they happened to be so close by when Sam read an article that claimed guests at this hotel had seen apparitions, and experienced horrible nightmares about a woman slitting their wrists. But the nightmares weren't actually killing anybody. Normally, they wouldn't have even bothered, but they were only a few miles away, and nothing else was close by.
Dean opened his mouth to call out one more time, but before he could, there was a flash of light and a distant-sounding screen, and he watched as the ghost of Jennifer Bishop appeared and almost instantaneously disappeared.
One down. One to go.
And wow was this room suddenly sweltering. Millie wasn't kidding about turning her thermostat up to ninety. Dean adjusted it to a much more reasonable 74°F, and left to go tell Millie he'd fixed her radiator.
After she was done thanking him, he headed up to his room and called Sam.
"Dean?" Sam said. "I took care of Jennifer Bishop."
"I know, I saw her burn up," Dean replied. "Nicely done. Anyway, I got some new info about our second ghost."
"Yeah? Let's hear it."
"The lady staying in the room where Jennifer offed herself said she saw a glowing figure in a hazmat suit in her room, thought it was a sleep paralysis thing until I brought it up. She said it seemed like it was looking for something, but it didn't seem to find anything."
"So we have a second witness for our hazmat ghost," Sam said. "And the description lined up?"
"Exactly," Dean confirmed. "I also have a new theory about those siblings, the red-headed girl and her brother. I think the brother might be a psychic, and was looking for a way to help Jennifer pass on peacefully, except she wasn't a strong enough spirit for him to connect with. Not sure how or even if this ties into the hazmat ghost at all."
"Still no clues about who it could be?" Sam asked.
"Nada," Dean said. "I did confirm that there was no lab or any kind of scientific facility at this site before the hotel was built. According to the hotel manager, before it was a hotel, it was a movie theater that went out of business during the great depression and got torn down, and before that, it was live-theater, but I'm pretty sure that was before hazmat suits were even invented. Before that, nothing. Just an empty lot."
"So maybe we're looking for someone who died somewhere else and their spirit was brought to the hotel connected to a cursed object," Sam suggested. "Have you seen anything in the hotel that looks like it might have come from a lab? Or belong to some kind of scientist?"
"If it was something that belonged to them, then it could be anything," Dean pointed out in exasperation. "A chair, or a painting, or a vase? I'm not gonna be able to find it unless I know what it is."
"You'd better start looking into any deaths in the area that might have been related to radioactive materials then," Sam said. "Any kind of death that might have occurred while the deceased was wearing a hazmat suit."
"Yeah, something that would have burned right through it," Dean said. "According to our descriptions, the suit is partially melted."
"You got this Dean?" I still have two and a half hours of driving to go.
"Yeah, I got it," Dean replied.
He did not got it. He got nothing. He stayed at the library until it closed at eight and didn't find a single death that fit the description. He got back to the hotel around the same time Sam did.
"Did you fill the tank?" he asked immediately.
"Yes, Dean, I filled the tank," Sam replied, rolling his eyes. "Did you identify our hazmat?"
Dean shook his head. "Nah, I couldn't find squat. It's like this ghost is..."
"A ghost?" Sam finished for him, raising an eyebrow.
Dean scowled. That had been what he was about to say, but he knew it sounded stupid, that's why he'd stopped.
"Yeah."
Sam shook his head as they went back up to their room.
The brothers were still puzzling out what to do about their second ghost, Dean cleaning his guns while Sam poured over their dad's journal, when they heard a muffled gasp from above them. Floating there on the ceiling was a figure in a hazmat suit, its faint glow barely visible in the light of the room.
For an instant, none of them moved. Then, acting quickly, Dean grabbed the crowbar that was next to him on the bed and flung it at the figure on the ceiling.
Rather than passing right through, causing the hazmat ghost to dissipate, the crowbar made contact with a clang, hitting it right on the head and knocking it to the floor between the two beds.
"Quick, salt, Sammy!" Dean shouted, rather than gape at the seemingly unconscious 'ghost' on their floor.
He tried to grab the hazmat-wearing figure, and to his surprise, it worked. He dragged it into the armchair in their room while Sam laid a ring of salt around it.
"Do you actually think this'll work, Dean?" Sam asked. "I mean, it doesn't seem like any ghost I've ever seen. Iron is supposed to repel ghosts, not actually hit them. I'm pretty sure this is something else."
"Iron hurt it—"
"Being hit in the head with a crowbar hurt it," Sam pointed out. "Based on that, it could be human for all we know."
"It was on the ceiling, Sam," Dean said flatly, grabbing the iron chains from under the bed and wrapping them around their captive. "And this don't look like Spider-Man to me."
"Well it doesn't look like a ghost, either," Sam insisted.
"So, what, you think this is some kind of Scooby-Doo situation?" Dean asked. "We'll pull off the mask and it turns out it's just some shady real-estate developer who wanted to get the hotel closed down so they could turn it into a theme park? Let's try it then."
Dean grabbed the hood of the hazmat suit and tore it off.
They both gasped at what they saw.
Whoever it was, he looked young, maybe 13 or 14. His hair was as white as sheet and floated on an imaginary breeze. His face was dark. Lightning-bolt scars criss-crossed it all the way down to the neck until they disappeared under the suit's collar. His skin appeared to be badly burned, flaking off in ashes which vanished before they hit the ground.
He groaned as he started to come back to consciousness, and when he opened his eyes, they were a solid, eerie green, glowing so brightly they almost hurt to look at, even in the well-lit room.
"Still think he's human?" Dean asked quietly.
Sam shook his head, wide-eyed and dumbstruck.
"This sure as hell never happened on Scooby-Doo."
"Ugh," the mysterious boy groaned again, blinking and shaking his head like he was trying to get his bearings. "Did you seriously throw a crowbar at my head?" he demanded after a moment. "What the hell, dude?!"
"What are you?" Sam demanded. "A demon?"
"I'm a ghost, what the hell does it look like?" the boy replied.
"You don't look like any ghost we've ever seen," Dean said.
"Let me guess, you're more used to shades like the other ghost that was floating around this hotel, right?" the kid guessed. "She seems to have left the building though. You two got any idea why?"
"We took care of her," Dean replied. "Sam dug her up and salted and burned her bones. And if you really are a ghost, then we can do the same to you."
"You... you straight up ended her?" he asked. "Just like that? You didn't even give her the chance to move on? Ancients, what the hell!"
"She had the chance to move on when she died, and she didn't take it," Dean said. "Instead she terrorized people, so we showed up to stop her."
"She gave a few people nightmares! Everyone has nightmares sometimes! You didn't have to destroy her!"
"What's it to you, did you know her?" Sam asked. "She a friend of yours?"
"Well... no, but I was trying to?" the boy replied. "She was too weak to capture, and I didn't want to destroy her by trying to fight, so I was trying to learn more about her and help her move on."
"If you're a ghost, why don't you move on?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, what's keeping you around?" Dean echoed the sentiment more harshly.
"The same thing preventing you from salting and burning my bones," came the reply. The so-called ghost did not elaborate.
"And what would that be?" Dean finally asked.
"I guess you could say I'm not dead enough yet."
"So you're not a ghost, then," Sam said.
"I am," said the boy. "I'm not a shade, like that woman you ended. I'm what a ghost is like when we actually have enough power to be a whole person and not just a shadow of our former self. I'm a ghost like you've never encountered before."
"Whatever you are, we're gonna get rid of you," Dean jeered.
"Why?" asked the boy. "I haven't hurt anyone. All I did was try to help another ghost pass peacefully through the veil. Don't you hunters have any sort of moral code?"
"So, what?" Sam asked. "You're proposing we just let you go?"
"Fat chance," Dean scoffed.
"Not exactly," the ghost replied with a smirk. "More like I'm telling you not to feel to guilty when I escape." Then the ghost stood up, iron chains falling right off him. "Iron is more difficult to pass through without destabilizing, but not too much of a challenge for ghosts like me. Sorry, but this will be the last time we see each other."
With that, he pulled his hood back on, obscuring his face once more, so the only thing visible was the glow of his eyes behind the black lenses of his mask. Then he flew right up through the ceiling.
The Winchesters tried to find him. They searched the hotel top to bottom, probably looking half-mad, but he was gone. He'd simply vanished without a trace. And they never did see him again.

Strength Training
Tadashi x college gymnast! Reader
Tumblr media
Kinda been a while since I did a full Tadashi one shot.
You’ve been dreading this next meet. How could you not? You’ve been practicing like shit and worst of all your air awareness has never been so off. Jumping feet into the air and twisting and turning without knowing where you are in comparison to the ground. Not only dangerous but terrifying.
At the beginning of every season your coach always told you and your team that getting to the top was one thing but staying there was another. Not to blow smoke up your ass but you were really fucking good. But you’d always vent to Tadashi how worried you were before every season. That maybe you’d finally get knocked off your podium or worse you’d get injured. He always told you that would never happen and even if it did you’d be just as amazing no matter what material your medal was made of.
You were stretching on the floor hours before your meet with your headphones blaring music when it paused. A loud ding and your boyfriend's name flashed across your phone.
“Hey, I know you’re probably busy right now. But I just want to wish you luck, you’re going to do great. We’ll be watching. Check the stands for the banner with your name on it.”
College sports were hard. College gymnastics was a whole other deal. You spent your mornings and afternoons at school while your evenings and nights were dedicated to practice. That’s actually how you met Tadashi. A rough bar routine landed you in muscle strengthening and you gave permission for a student to watch and help the trainer. He was cute, super cute and very good at what he did. He got your number from the receptionist and went out of his way to double check that you were okay the morning after your last day of strength training. You got to talking like friends, he went to his first meet ever, and months later you got a practically perfect boyfriend.
It wasn’t entirely perfect though. Your dedication to your sport and his to all of the projects and labs he did jammed your flow. You got into fights about being ignored and neglected. But you always make up within a few days. You had made it very clear that you would not compromise on what you wanted to do. Although that made your relationship rockier than some, it’s on Tadashi’s list of ten billion things he loves about you.
“Aww, thank you. I’m just stretching right now but I’ll see you guys soon. I love you.”
He responded back almost immediately.
“I love you too.”
A few hours later you arrived with your team and coach to the invitational that was quickly filling up with people. You saw a couple of people from your old gym waving to you. It was funny to think about how much you wanted to be like the big girls who wore the sponsored warm-ups and custom leotards, who got to pick their own floor music and used both the low and high bar. Now you are a big girl.
But even while you and your teammates were sat on the side of the blue carpeted floor in straddles and middle splits, the thought still lingered in the back of your mind.Your air awareness is awful. It was the one thing that cannot be taught, it's an instinct. And your instincts were off. Plus all season you’ve been having bad shoulders, bad wrists, and bad elbows. Earlier you had your coach help you wrap sports tape around your elbow and put Tiger Paws on your wrists.
After driving for a few hours, Tadashi and his family showed up to the invitational. He likes to sit closer to the top that way when you move events he can still see you just fine. They had to learn the hard way the gymnastics meets can go well into the day and sometimes even the night. But watching all your routines made it all worth it to him. Tadashi would never say it out loud but watching you do something you’re a literal expert on effortlessly is hot as fuck.
You came down from your bridge stretch and immediately saw your boyfriend, his brother, and their aunt sitting down with a banner with your name written on it. You smiled at them and waved when your coach wasn’t looking. It was improper etiquette to interact with the audience during a meet but you still wanted to say hi. One of your teammates noticed.
“Is that your boyfriend?” She asked, looking at Tadashi. Some of the other girls’ ears perked up and they immediately looked in the direction you were looking in.
You smiled to yourself. “Yeah, him and his family.”
“You guys are so cute, it’s gross.” Another girl added.
You laughed and went back to stretching before your coach could catch you. By the time the meet actually started your first event was vault. The cool thing about vault is if you mess up you get to try again. And whichever vault you do better is the one the judges will score. Tadashi and his family knew next to nothing about gymnastics before you so it was really funny when they would get mad at the way the judges scored you thinking you deserved better.
Your first vault was fine. Not great and nothing like you usually do but fine which technically meant it was shit. By your second one you coach quickly pulled you aside and reminded you “just trust yourself” before sending you off to go again. Your teammates were encouraging and by the time you went again you did much better. You could feel it.
Tadashi and his family were screaming so loud they were getting dirty looks from the people around them but it’s not like they give a shit. They came to see you and to them you always did amazing. You always thought it was cute that your boyfriends took videos of your routines on his own phone even though college meets are filmed professionally because he liked having them.
Your beam routine was fine except that part where you almost fell off and took two steps back out of your dismount. And your bar routine was a hot mess. Not only did your elbow give out mid giant but you fell out of your jaeger. It was taking every last bit of mental will for you to not start crying. It was beyond frustrating. You could feel the blood from one of your old rips seeping from underneath your grips. When you fell, Tadashi nearly jumped out of his skin and you laid flat on your back on the chalk covered mat with your hands over your eyes. His heart was racing when one of the medics and your coach approached you. You said something like ‘im fine’ and sent the medic back. He could see it on your face, you weren’t fine. Tadashi sat back down in his seat as an ugly feeling settled in his stomach.
Your last routine was always floor. Everyone likes floor routines because they’re entertaining and not as nerve racking as beam or quick as vault. For a few moments into your routine you thought floor would be your redeeming event for the day. Until your second tumbling pass when you were on your second tuck and had no clue where you were in the air or how close you were to ground. When you did land, almost falling out of the white line, you heard a loud pop sound followed by a tearing sensation in your leg and collapsed onto the floor.
Cass nearly screamed as she saw you fall onto your side clutching your leg and covering your eyes. Pain written on the parts of your face she could see.
“Oh shit.” Hiro whispered to himself. When he looked over his brother was no longer sitting next to him. Your boyfriend nearly ran towards the end of the bleachers as the medics ran to you. You weren’t moving. How come you weren’t moving? He could see the gasps of air in your back. You were crying. Whether it was because you were in pain, couldn’t finish the season or both you were crying.
Your hamstring was on fire. Fuck it hurt so bad. One of the medics asks you what your pain level is and you don’t want to sound like a baby by saying a ten, but it really was a ten.
“It hurts.” You whined almost pitifully as one of the male medics picked you up in his arms and carried you as he repeated “I know, I know.”
He carried you to the nurses station on the outside of the building and Tadashi went sprinting after you two. It made him borderline sick to see how many people had pulled out their phones just to record you laying on the floor holding your thigh and crying. By the time he got there you were sitting with your leg elevated and an ice pack right on top of your hamstring. Tears were still dribbling from your eyes.
“Baby,” He breathed out and sat down right next to you and put his hand on your face, wiping your tears with his thumb. “Are you okay?”
You were honest and shook your head no. “It hurts.”
“Yeah, it looked like it hurt.” He pressed a kiss to the side of your head and just held you. He could already see the slight bruising spread onto your skin. “If it makes you feel any better you were beautiful today.”
He smiled at you and you could only give him a small weak one in return. His heart cracked a little down the middle at your face broken into tears of sadness, pain, and frustration.
“I fucked everything up.” You wiped your nose with your hand.
Tadashi pressed more kisses to the side of your face. “No, don’t say that. Don’t-”
“Yes I did.” You insisted, now sobbing like a little girl. “That was the worst I’ve ever done!”
Your sobs were deep and full of sadness. He glanced down at your leg and saw more of the bruise becoming more prominent and colorful. Gently, he placed his hand on the ice pack and pushed it a tiny bit closer to your skin. The way he held you was so full of love and affection. The world could have been suffering an apocalypse in the background and he would still stroke your face as tenderly as he was.
“You were so beautiful today.” He repeated. “You’re so beautiful now.”
You laughed a bit thinking about how you were looking up at your boyfriend with spit, tears, and snot on your face. Yet he still looked at you like he meant it. The prettiest girl he’d ever seen, bodily fluids and all.
“You know this is kinda how we met.” He whispered to you. “You were injured and I took care of you.”
“Yeah but that time it was your job to do it.” You joked. It was nice to hear you joke a bit.
“Still, I liked seeing you. On Friday you would always come in covered in chalk because that was the only day you had training after practice.” He recalled it like it was yesterday. Small details like that that he would remember till the day he died.
“Is that how it’s going to be this time?” You asked. “Are you taking care of me?”
He pressed a kiss to your lip and smiled. “I’ll always take care of you. Plus this time it’s just you and me. No doctor supervision.”
“Should I be worried?” You laughed finally. A true laugh.
He squished your face with one hand and blew air into your ear. “Only slightly.”
“Great, can’t wait.” You smiled and scooted your body closer to his despite the pain.

Whumptober Day 19
I'll take one final step, and all you have to do is make me / Floral Bouquet / psychological / "I'm not as stupid as you think I am" Alternative list: Lab Rat
The doctor stuck a potato chip through the hole of the cage to offer Subject 148 a treat.
148 gladly took the chip and sat back down in their cage.
"Doctor, was that the last experiment today?", an assistant questioned while they labeled 148's blood samples.
Doctor slid another chip through the cage hole, and smiled.
"Yes I think 148 has had enough of us today", they commented, "they did so good."
148 perked up when they heard the praise, they had tried their hardest to be good today.
"They must have heard you mention a trip outside for recess after the labs and testing were done", the intern smiled.
148 perked up even more, they whimpered. They got up to a crawling position, and gently rattled the cage door.
"I think they've earned it", the doctor grinned.
The intern and assistant walked down the hall following 148 to the outside gym entrance.
"They know where they're going", the intern chuckled, "I've never seen anything like them."
The assistant smiled, "yes they have taken this trip a few times. They're quite a sight."
148 had scaly patches throughout their body. Their eyes bright yellow. Claws as sharp as their teeth. Pointed ears that rested against their horns. They were not able to stand upright, often finding it painful to be like that for a long time. Their body was naturally hunched. They were incapable of speech.
The Doctor believed 148 was a hybrid between reptile and human. They had no idea how though. That was what the experiments were for.
148 had been found and captured by a specialist group. They had decided to contain 148 in the lab. It was Doctor's job to research 'what this beast was', as they had been told.
148 behaved for the most part, they only fought back occasionally, and mostly when scared. They had learned to trust the Doctor and Assistant through time.
148 paused beside a vending machine and looked at Assistant with longing eyes.
"What's going on?", the Intern watched as Assistant pulled their wallet out.
"Nothing, they just have me trained really well", they slipped some cash into the machine and hit the buttons.
148 smiled excitedly as Assistant pulled out the treat and opened it.
"I'll have to remember to right this down in their diet plan", Assistant remarked as they handed the treat to 148.
They finally made it to the outside gym entrance.
"So what happens now", the intern watched.
"148 is going to run off some steam before we let them rest", the Assistant slid their card to open the doors.
148 ran out and started to investigate things.
Assistant and intern watched them play. They parked their butts on a bench and talked.
After a while, the Assistant glanced at their phone, "oh Doctor wants us to bring 148 back to the lab."
Assistant whistled, and called 148 over to them.
"Doctor wants to see you", Assistant started to walk to the door.
148 sat on the cement and shook their head. No way did they want to go back to the lab.
"Come on 148, you do not get a choice", Assistant stepped back over to them, "come on."
148 frowned, and kept sitting.
"Don't make me call the Doctor", Assistant held up their phone, "they won't be happy to have to come get you."
148 got up and walked farther out into the play yard and laid down.
"Ugh", Assistant sighed, and dialed the Doctor.
The intern couldn't hide their chuckle at the stubborn 148. They listened as Assistant talked to the doctor.
"Okay 148", Assistant started, "what's it going to be? You come in on your own or Doctor calls the guard to get you."
Assistant heard the Doctor ask to be put on speaker.
"Okay you're on speaker."
"148, forgive me, but I forgot to get a urine sample, and I really need that to send out", Doctor stated, "it's about time to come in anyways, I'll make sure you get a reward. Please don't make me call the guard to get you."
148 got up and slowly walked to the door, they looked sadly at Assistant.
"Okay it looks like they are willing to come in", Assistant went to open the door, "they're breaking my heart though."
148 allowed Intern to take the sample, but kept an eye on them.
148 sat in their cage, waiting for dinner to be served. They smiled when the door opened.
It was intern. 148 frowned.
"Don't look at me like that", Intern grinned, "we don't want Doctor and Assistant to think something is up, do we", Intern set 149's food on a nearby table.
148 frowned, they were trapped in their cage, with them free to do whatever. Intern was not a friendly, "please Doctor, Assistant come in", they thought
"Let's make this clear", Intern sauntered over to the cage, "if you make any signs of me abusing you, you will regret it."
148 stared at Intern, they bared their teeth.
"That doesn't scare me. Be happy I have no interest in you, and I will be gone from your case study next month", Intern slammed on the cage, "I just have to deal with an ugly monster like you until then. I just need to intern with doctor for this month to pass."
Intern opened the cage to throw the food in, partially spilling some of it. They slammed the cage door shut and then left.
148 stayed near the back of the cage, shaking in fear. The door opened again, 148's heart sunk.
Assistant walked in and went right to the cage, "I am so sorry."
148 looked at them weirdly.
Assistant opened the cage and started to clean the spilled food, "I saw bruising last week on your back and was concerned. I knew something was up, Doctor had me set up a camera to see what was happening to you."
They handed 148 some of the food that hadn't spilled, "we'll get you taken care of, starting with some food."
The next morning, the Doctor came in, physically upset. They gemtly talked to 148, then started to do their task waiting for Assistant and Intern to come in.
148 rested quietly, happy Doctor was there to keep them safe from intern.
Assistant came in a bit later and greeted Doctor.
"Good morning", the doctor replied, then sighed, "I appreciate you for setting up the camera and watching. I wish thus wasn't the truth."
Assistant started to get ready, "how are going to go around this."
"I have a guard stopping by later, per the Director. I have permission to out them, the Director has seen the video already", Doctor glanced over at 148, "they will be taking later legal action as well as 148 is under government protection."
148 listened to everything going on, they thought maybe they were understanding, but wasn't sure fully what was going on.
Intern came in a little after breakfast.
"Good morning", they started getting ready.
"Intern, could you start going through the records, I'll need to talk with you after I finish this", Doctor stated, "you don't have to worry about 148, Assistant is taking care of them."
"Oh okay", they replied.
After a while, Intern turned and eyed 148 with a smirk. They didn't realize Doctor was watching them.
Thankfully two guards came in soon after.
"Intern, I need to show you something", Doctor called them over.
Intern stepped over, as Doctor turned their computer around.
The video of Intern and 148 started to play. Intern's jaw dropped.
"How did you get this footage?"
"Assistant noticed some bruising on 148's back the other day, I gave them permission to set up a hidden camera to see what was happening", Doctor frowned, "plus 148 clearly doesn't trust you."
Intern glanced over to Assistant, who was standing beside 148's cage.
"How dare you", Intern yelled.
148 cowarded near the back of the cage.
"You were the one bullying 148, so how dare you."
Doctor interrupted, "you do realize 148 is a government protected person, what you did was highly illegal", Doctor had the guards step forward to make the arrest, "you are no longer welcome to intern with me."
"I have to, I won't be able to pass to the next level without you signing off", Intern fought the guards.
"Trust me, I'm doing the future a favor. You won't be allowed to do anything in this field after what you did, and the legal proceedings are about to be involved with. The Director will explain."
148 watched everything unfolding, hoping this would be explained to them in simpler terms for them to understand.
"I'm done with them, Assistant will pack their stuff already. I'll have it down to the Director's office later", Doctor stated.
"You can't do this", Intern yelled again as they were being dragged out.
"We can. You can't abuse government property without repercussions", Assistant spoke up.

The thing about Rhine Lab/Columbia in Arknights as a stand in for america that really gets me is how it has a lot of nuance. Something that's true for Arknights writing writ large of course but it makes their potshots and criticisms of the US that much meatier and more intelligent I think.
The bit about Parvis that's an obvious potshot about nazi scientists in NASA in their early days, talking about The Ubermench directly contrasting with not only Silence arguing that science belongs to the people, but Ferdinand actually acting on it by making sure all the scientific breakthroughs Kristen is taking with her on her spaceship are documented and published.
The way Rhine Lab is entangled in military funding, the reasons why the military is so entangled with military R&D being related to their own running around unchecked and doing coups contrasting with Kristen effectively embezzling all that money to...build a spaceship and explore.
The fact that Kristen tossed aside all morals and ethics to build this spaceship and leave. The child soldier bioweapons, all of the stuff in Dorothy's Vision wrt using undocumented/lower class workers as test subjects that she signed off on. But in launching her spacecraft she quite literally tore down one of Terra's greatest lies, inspiring artists and scientists everywhere.
Idk, I feel like Hypergryph gets it in a way that like, european dev making 'Murica Simulator VR that's just a long gun violence joke won't ever get

Hopefully my motivation will rejuvenate and I'll be writing way more consistently... hopefully lollll hope you enjoy~~
warnings: none to note, unedited, mayhaps a curse word ?
—————————————————————————
Raph
Where do I begin? He’s always the type to protect those around him. It doesn’t matter whether you’re just a regular citizen or someone he knows and loves, this turtle will protect all! He’s got a big heart.
Much like April you stumbled into the boys life at an early age. Yet unlike her, you were younger than the entire group. As a tot, Raph made sure you were never left behind, hiking you up on his shoulders along with Mikey.
Both of you giggling about the height and saying “look look I’m flyingggg!!” making superhero poses, just the works. Standard oldest brother material. He was still a kid too so there were some accidents, of course you fell off once or twice.
But he was quick to distract you from any boo-boo’s, swooping you back into his arms and snuggling his head close profusely apologizing for getting a little too rowdy. “Don’t cry!! Look Raph’s gotcha! All safe and sound!”
“Does it hurt bad? Let’s go get patched up by Lee hmmm? Raph bet’s he has the prettiest bandaids for you!”
If the group is playing a competitive game, like tag or hide & seek, Raph’s making sure you’re having a fun time. Not feeling left out or being picked on too much. In tag he may run a little slower so you are able to catch him, he would happily be ‘it’ a thousand times if it meant you beamed that mischievous smile. “Tag Raphie!!! Hehehe”
In hide & seek he’ll hide with you or better yet find you the best spots to hide. “Okay Raph’s going hide now too, goodluck and don’t make any noise!!”
As the group grows from tots to teens and the world isn’t as sparkly, and dangers lurk every corner Raph becomes more concerned with your safety. Though there’s not much he can do while your at school, any time you hang out with the bros other than the lab he’s always got a watchful eye.
“Ohhhhh guys look at this!!” Window shopping being one of your favorite past times as they walk the streets of NYC. Raph can’t help but call out for you to “Wait!” or “Watch out!” Something about those sidewalks cracks that always trip you up. And don’t even get Raph started on how many times you’ve bounded ahead of the group only to get lost.
“C’mere you!” Raph’s pulling you close and giving you a noogie. Definitely not caring as you screech about your hair. “What’d I tell ya about running off??” He continues messing with you until you either slip out of his grip or call out mercy. “You had me worried!” He breathed out with a stern look. “Awww Raphie I’m not little anymore!” You teased, but to him you’d always be his little sister. Just like Mikey would never escape being the little brother.
Leo
Oh my lord the trouble you two get into. Pranks? Yeah. Lots of them. The two of you are menaces together, and unlike Leo, you get off the hook with batting your sweet innocent eyelashes. “Whaaaaa Leo told me to!!” And he’d scoff, yelling out traitor as you stuck your tongue when Raph’s back was turned.
Despite always slipping away from punishment, Leo didn’t mind you throwing him under the bus. In fact he was quite impressed with your tactics. One of these days he’d catch you on video being a brat behind Raph’s back! So count your days because they were numbered.
While Leo is down for throwing caution and safety in the wind, if things get serious.. let’s say someone threatening you? Whoever’s spouting such nonsense better run for the hills. He doesn’t deal kindly with those who hurt his family. Especially his little prankster of a sister. “Run that by me again? You said what about my sister??” Fun, silly, charismatic Leo is gone! He’d have a glint in his eyes that scream ‘you’ll pay for that.’
What else?! Though he claims he’s nothing like Raph in regards to being wrapped around your pinky finger, he totally is. “Hey Lee can you portal me to school?? I don’t feel like walking!” He’d complain saying how you’re using his rad powers for such a lazy reason (even though he’s guilty of such a thing) but after he gives you an earful of complaints he’s opening up a portal.
Don’t think he won’t waltz in right after you. Much like those older siblings who love to embarrass their little siblings. Calling after you to “Have a greaaaaaaat day!! Big brother wuvs youuuuuuu!!” And it’s similar if he’s picking you up from school. He’ll portal in with a speaker and blare music, mostly Nicki Minaj.
Donnie
Those little puppy dog eyes you can pull off with Raph have no influence when it comes to Donnie, he has footage of your two-faced nature, having big crocodile tears at one moment and an evil grin at the next, unlike Leo who has never been able to successfully capture you in the act, Donnie has and he lords it over you as blackmail for most things, like a big brother usually does
He only brings it out when absolutely necessary, mainly whenever the two of you are in a back and forth banter that has gone too far, "Oh yeah? I seem to recall a certain purple turtle reading some very interesting fanfiction with Atomic Lass last night!" You puff up satisfied when Donnie gasps at such a true accusation, the utter betrayal! "C'mon guys don't start fighting" Raph will speak up as Donnie whips out his phone going for his passcoded camera roll.
"Oh Raphala I have something to show you!" Donnie will sing as he turns the phone over to reveal the beginning of a video of you and its one that has you immediately screeching. Jumping up from your spot to run and try and tackle Donnie to the floor, but he expects this as his battleshell takes off into the air, putting himself and his phone out of reach. "Turn it off!!! Stop it Dee!!! I never said what exactly you were reading!!" You plead as he swoops and dodges the pillows and really anything you can get your hands on to throw.
So yes, he has the dirt that you would hate Leo to get his hands on so Donnie and you have a bit of an understanding of one another. Other than that though you can find solace in his lab anytime. He doesn't mind your entry because unlike his brothers you don't start touching or breaking things. You treat his inventions carefully and he has fun explaining to you their potentials.
As tots Donnie was definitely quizzing and spitting out random facts to your malleable brain, a lot of it ended up sticking so you understood him to some degree on an academic level, but most of all he had prepared you for school to which you were forever grateful
Now you may not say so in words but with each passing grade you would go down to the lair and find Donnie specifically to show off your assignments, beaming proudly as he would smile and singing his praises about how well he had taught you. He realized that maybe he had taught you too well since you were a master manipulator when it came to tear ducts but he couldn't help but smile at that, proud to have another evil genius in their midst
Mikey
He knew what it was like to be treated like a baby despite being only a few years younger, so it came as no surprise that he would agree with you whenever you wanted to do something adventurous, something on your own, "Guys, she's old enough to go out to the movies with her friends!" Even if he sort of knew your crush would be going as well, Mikey was not going to be the brother to hold you back from falling in love!
Now heaven forbid that little heart of yours gets stomped on. The person who did so will obviously be on some sort of shit-list by all the turtles, but I think Mikey would be the one who has to be watched out for the most, he destroys people who hurts what he loves, that pizza place episode with the rock band is a prime example! He'll turn savage, lunging for violence, striking to enact karma on those who deserve it the most
Of course he will be the best brother to go to if you want to have some deep emotional talks, Dr. Feelings to the rescue, and though it hurts him to know you've been stabbed in the heart, he will be there through the whole break-up process! Cry session with tubs of ice cream or whatever sweets you desire, Mikey's a great cook so baking isn't that hard for him. He will listen to all the rants and raging that you need to get off your chest, adding in quips when necessary. Then when its time to detox fully, delete pictures, unfollow on all social medias, block their number, get rid of the gifts and physical reminders, he's there with a box, repeating how strong you are and that you don't need them nor these things!
Unlike Leo, if you and Mikey wanted something, a pair of puppy-dog eyes was better than one, even Donnie could not hold out for long if the begging was done by both of you at once, "Donnie c'mon pleaseeee set up the switch! We wanna play Mario Party!" "I thought we were gonna be playing Minecraft-" "You guys its easy you don't need me to set it up." "PLEASEEEEE"
And no doubt Mikey is whipping up your favorites in the kitchen. He loves to hear your heartfelt "thank yous!!!" and "Angieeee it's so tasty! 10 out of 10!!" You know exactly how to curry his favor when you go topside and grab him new ingredients to use. That and shooting compliment after compliment his way. Sometimes he will trust you to stir or cut up veggies when he has too many things going on at once in the kitchen. The vibes are immaculate when you get the aux cord to the speaker in the kitchen, the both of you singing out all kinds of music and going into little dance breaks when a song is just too good to not groove to!

I just had this idea, and idk if you accept this kind of request, but i really like your writting so here it goes:
Imagine you like, suddenly gets suddenly inside genshin BUT you're not a player and you're not the creator! You're infact just the best friend of an obsesive genshin player, and the little you know about the game comes from that friend. And then you just adjust to your new life, When all of a sudden you start hearing every where you go 'the crrator has descended.' and while you're just continuing your life BOOM! Said friend just appears in front of you!
(sorry if you can't really understand, english isnt my first lenguage. And feel free to ignore it, again, i'm not sure if you take request like this, so i'm sorry if anything)
Omg I love that!!!! Definitely would be interesting as the person.
Like one day you're just going about life and suddenly you either end up at the bottom of the ocean (in those abandoned research labs) or in the middle of the rainforest! Talk about a bad day huh?
Luckily you wouldn't have much worry about being hunted or anything. Though you definitely could be killed by the wild so you would have to be extra careful! I can imagine your first encounter with a character would be eating a mushroom that looked like an edible one from our world, and ended up getting poisoned dhekdhfkfj, so you would have to have Tighnari find you and heal you.
Though I'm not sure if you would have to be careful with what you say...probably actually since one wrong word and forbidden knowledge will spread again....oh god wait that is most likely to happen because you wouldn't know about the consequences!! OH NO
Your friend will have so much damage control to do because of your dumb ass/lovingly dhskdbfkfj

Hello there ! I thought about this while watching across the spiderverse : what if Miguel s/o's (also a spider-person) decides to help Miles behind Miguel's back without him knowing ? But he ends up realizing it when he sees his s/o alongside Miles back on earth 1610. The reason his s/o did that is because they believes there has to be a way to save Miles' dad while protecting the balance of the Multiverse.
Is it possible for you to write something with this scenario ?
Thank you in advance and, also, thank you for your beautiful writtings ❤
Ooooh very interesting but I could only write a short bit to keep it in line with the movie. It happens when Miguel traps Miles and I thought if he had to deal with heartbreak there, it would lead to more angst. Hope you like it!
The adverse effect was, I cried 😭
Don't make me choose
Word count: 800
Part 2>>
You stood in the middle. It was almost like this was another one of your canon events. To choose between doing what is right and the one you love.
Chaos swirled around, all the members who had gathered around you in Miguel’s lab were in an uproar, everyone trying their best to convince this teen boy that he had to accept his fate, that he was about to lose his father.
The spiderverse spread out around you, highlighting the common connection, the sacred thread you do not mess with but all you could focus on was the fear in Miles’s eyes. The poor kid was terrified and yet no one was paying any heed to it. You turned to see the one who meant everything to you.
He stood there, in the middle of it all with his hands resting on his hips, his shoulders slumped from exhaustion but you saw through him like no one else could. If everyone missed the panic that Miles was in, they also missed out on the tears glistening in Miguel’s eyes. Because you knew, you knew how deep he felt the pain of losing someone and yet standing in this position of leadership with his hands tied, he was going to deal this situation with a firm hand.
“You know this is the only way.”, he spoke to you, his eyes pinned on your every move as though he could tell that he was losing you in this mess.
But there had to be a way out. You can’t just let someone die because it was stated by an algorithm, if there was any chance to save Miles’s father, then you were going to take it.
You heard your name be called with authority as you took a step away from Miguel. He was ordering you back, to be by his side. But with the second step, there was fear in his voice and then there was only pain as you slipped further away.
“How can we just let someone die? When we all wear the mantle of a hero?”, you asked, the crowd falling silent to your question. You placed your hand on Miles’s shoulder and he gave you a relieved smile.
“But that is how it is.”, Miguel yelled and you turned to face him.
“The whole fate of the multiverse resides on this one event.”, he furrowed his brows, frustrated and stressed at the same time.
“And I stand to lose everything I’ve built.”, anger flashed across his face as he towered over you.
“I could lose everything.”, now his gaze was fixed on you as he said the words, his tone a little softer, a little broken.
“But Miguel,”, you reached out to place your hand on his chest, to calm him down, to get him to listen to you.
“what if there is another way?”, you pleaded with him. Tears threatening to fall.
“There is no other way.”, he broke free from your hold as he shook his head, his eyes fluctuating between his hazel brown to blood red. You waited for him to see sense but it was too late.
“LYLA lock him up.”, was the command you heard when you felt his grasp tighten around your wrist, pulling you to his side and away from Miles, who was now stuck in a red cell.
“Don’t do this to me.”, he spoke fast in hushed tones but that was because he was about to break.
“Don’t make me choose.”, he pulled you close, with the way he was lowering himself, it was almost as if he was on his knees.
“Miguel just listen to me.”, you were trying to contend with him as the situation around you got out of hand.
But instead he held your face in his hands to get your focus to just be on him, almost like he was at his wits end, pleading you to stay out of it
“This once, just this once turn a blind eye.”, his face contorted in anguish, his attention only on you, his eyes hoping to catch your compliance.
“You know I can’t.”, you felt the tear escape your eye and he bit down on his lower lip, his eyes closing for a second in defeat.
“I’m sorry Miguel.”, you leaned forward to kiss his forehead and break away from his hold as you generated an anomaly cell around him, trapping him within it and your heart broke when you saw the shock in his eyes as he registered what had happened.
Miles broke free from his cell with Hobie’s help and your focus turned to him as he waited for you, unsure if you were going to join him.
The second passed by slowly, as you took off running with him and you threw a glance over your shoulder.
You watched in slow motion as Miguel unleashed all his fury against the red cell walls, his claws scratching away at it but it was the way he screamed your name that made your eyes blur with tears, you couldn’t help but witness the utter devastation in his eyes and the wet stains that marked the sides of his face.
