Oh.
Tumblr media
Hello.
Well then. Did I say anything for 1,000 followers? I really can't remember, but nonetheless, thank you all for your continued support of this fun project of mine! Should I do something for this milestone? I honestly don't have any ideas, but if you all think of a fun gimmick to do I'd be happy to.
Once again, thank you for enjoying this blog, even if you tossed a follow months ago and forgot I existed when I vanished (again), I really do appreciate all the support and engagement I've been getting, and I do plan on continuing this blog for quite a while! At the very least, I want to get to a point where I have completed all the submissions, be that within another year or another ten.

LOVE how multiple people have been like "Steve is a Cubs fan" (including myself) with no elaborations. Look at him. He loves the Cubs. You can just tell. Poor guy is waiting for another thirty something years for them to win the world series. (And my god the wait may well have been worth that game) However I also propose Steve is a "got one American League team and one National League team" baseball guy. And. To rub salt in the wound of his Cubs fan heart. He is obviously a Red Sox fan. Idk how this happens but it does. (It's me projecting hehe)
Listen. The hilarity of him being dragged for being a Cubs fan is compounded by him ALSO being a fan of the only other team in MLB with a curse as famous. Double cursed. And for what is arguably the most boring sport (until it isn't)

The last time we had opening day in Seattle was 2019, right after we won the World Series in 2018. Today, MLB announced the 2024 schedule and we are opening in Seattle so obviously we will be winning the World Series this year. The team is going to have to get it together for sure but the MLB gods have spoken.

Did you know that the MLB World Series was invented by a Jewish immigrant? In January 1903, the American and National Baseball Leagues signed a new National Agreement in which the two agreed to coexist in peace. But at this point, there was still no postseason battle to determine which of the two leagues’ pennant winners was the ultimate champion for a given year. That’s when Barney Dreyfuss, a Jewish immigrant from Germany and the owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, proposed the first World Series. That October, over 100,000 people came out to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Boston Americans (later Boston Red Sox) play a best-of-nine series, and America’s pastime was born.

best special interest I ever had was baseball tbh. It got me outside. It got me spending more time with my family. It won over multiple nice old guy teachers of mine whom I otherwise would have had nothing in common with. best of all, you could talk to just about anyone about it and they wouldn't think it was weird.

Baseball Films
If anybody feels like watching a good baseball movie or documentary now that the season is over, here are some good ones I watched/rewatched recently:
The Rookie - Dennis Quaid stars in this movie about Jim Morris, a high school science teacher and baseball coach, who gets a second chance to fulfill his dream of becoming a Major League pitcher. (Based on a true story)
Moneyball - Brad Pitt plays Billy Beane in this movie based on the Oakland Athletics' turnaround to analytics, which changed the way the game is played. (Based on a true story)
Four Days in October - This documentary is about the 2004 ALCS when the Boston Red Sox came back and won the series after being down 3-0 to the Yankees; to this day, this is the only time in the game's history this has ever happened.
The Day the Series Stopped - This film documents the 1989 world series, often called the "Battle of the Bay" due to the teams being the San Francisco Giants vs. the Oakland Athletics. During the third game of the series, one of the worst earthquakes to ever hit California struck, leaving many dead and injured, but bringing together the community with the love of the sport.
The Sandlot - A true classic, this comedy about a group of ragtag kids who love playing baseball is a great watch for anybody who wants to laugh. (Based on a true story)

The Phillies are learning, like the Red Sox did last year, that if you clobber the Astros early in the series, the Astros will make it impossible for you to hit & score runs later in the series.

*Sees it's May, when we literally couldn't be more separated from playoff baseball and everyone's focused on two completely different sports' postseasons* "How about a World Series video, guys!"
Every World Series-Winning Run of the Wild Card Era (1995-2023)

aka the run that makes it a number the opposing team never reaches in the deciding game; for example, the 2nd run in a 5-1 final. (oops, sorry Dodgers fans!) If you're familiar with hockey and its rules on "game-winning goals", then it's like that.

ESPN: Bill Buckner Behind the Bag
Source:The Daily Post The 1986 MLB World Series is one of the greatest World Series of all-time. Not because of the Bill Buckner error at first base in Game 6. But because it was a matchup of two great teams, the two best teams in baseball in 1986. Who played about as well as they possibly could. This was a World Series with 3-4 great games, where both teams had opportunities to win each of these…

sorry if this reads as a confession but i feel the need to say i am from the balkans and have no ties to massachusetts but i did spend my entire childhood OBSESSED with it and boston especially. because when i was very little i watched a yankees vs red sox game with my dad and the red sox were losing by a lot so i decided to root for them with no prior knowledge of anything related to them. and the red sox ended up winning that game AND i think the world series (it would seem the year was 2004) which i interpreted as my doing entirely. and from that moment on i passionately hated the yankees and loved the red sox and begged my mom to buy me anything with the word "boston" on it (i still have and wear a knockoff boston college hoodie from a local shop from like 2010). im normal now but new york yankees hats are now very popular here (for no reason!! the only people who know baseball are the 100 or so people in this country who play it!) and i still feel a pang of irritation whenever i see them. anyway thanks for this blog it takes me back to my massachusetts obsessed childhood 👍 go red sox etc
