World Hemophilia Day 2023: Know History, Theme, Significance
World Hemophilia Day 2023
World Hemophilia Day is an awareness day for the world that is celebrated every year on the 17th of April. The first time it was observed was in 1989 and is governed in conjunction with the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH).
The day’s purpose is to increase awareness of hemophilia and other bleeding disorders as well as promote improved diagnosis, treatment, and treatment for those with these disorders.
Hemophilia is an uncommon bleeding disorder caused by genetics that affects the blood’s capacity to properly clot. It’s caused by insufficient or absent certain proteins that clot the blood. This can result in prolonged bleeding after an injury or surgery as well as a sudden bleed into muscles and joints.

History of World Hemophilia Day 2023
World Hemophilia Day started on the 17th of April, 1989 which was the 20th anniversary since the founding of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH). It is WFH an organization that is a non-profit worldwide that aims to improve the lives of people suffering from hemophilia, as well as other bleeding conditions.
The idea of a worldwide day of awareness in order to increase awareness of hemophilia, a bleeding disorder, was originally thought of by Frank Schnabel, a Canadian businessman and advocate for the hemophilia cause. Schnabel became the very first person to start the Canadian Hemophilia Society, and his son was hemophilic.
The beginning of World Hemophilia Day was marked by a myriad of activities and events around the world, including blood drive, education seminars in addition to public-awareness campaigns. Since then this day is held annually on the 17th day of April. The theme for each year is a different one which changes.
World Hemophilia Day 2023: Theme
World Hemophilia Day theme of 2023 is “Prevention of bleeds as the global standard of care“
Here are some past themes of World Hemophilia Day:
2021: “Adapting to Change: Sustaining care in a new world”
2020: “Get+involved”
2019: “Outreach and Identification”

Significance of World Haemophilia Day 2023
World Hemophilia Day is significant due to a variety of reasons:
1. Awareness Raising: This event increases awareness of hemophilia as well as other bleeding disorders that are often misunderstood or not diagnosed. Raising awareness on this day can help educate people on the symptoms, signs, and dangers that are associated with these disorders.
2. Advocacy: The day offers an opportunity for advocacy and activism, which is crucial to improve medical treatment and treatment for those who suffer from hemophilia or other bleeding diseases.
Advocates utilize the day to draw attention to issues like the accessibility of treatment options, funds for research, as well as support for patients or their family members.

On February 14th 2003 “Dolly”, the sheep, the first cloned mammal, was euthanized.
When scientists working at the Roslin Institute in Scotland produced Dolly, she was only lamb born from 277 attempts, from those rom 277 cell fusions, 29 early embryos developed and were implanted into 13 surrogate mothers. But only one pregnancy went to full term, and the 6.6 kg Finn Dorset lamb 6LLS, that’s Dolly to you and I, was born after 148 days. She was born on 5 thJuly 1996 but they never announced her birth for six months.
Dolly lived a pampered existence at the Roslin Institute, not far where I grew up. She mated and produced normal offspring in the normal way, showing that such cloned animals can reproduce.
Dolly the sheep was produced at Roslin as part of research into producing medicines in the milk of farm animals. Researchers have managed to transfer human genes that produce useful proteins into sheep and cows, so that they can produce, for instance, the blood clotting agent factor IX to treat haemophilia or alpha-1-antitrypsin to treat cystic fibrosis and other lung conditions.
This was a major news story around the world, Dolly even appeared on the cover of Time magazine, although I think they missed a trick and the headline should have been “Will There Ever Be Another Ewe”
Dolly was given a lethal dose of an anaesthetic she lives on though conserved by taxidermists her remains were conserved and she is on display in The National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street, Edinburgh.

I just read your Yandere vampire OM brothers and I was wondering what about yan vampire Lucifer and MC who has a blood clotting problem like they cut their hand or whatever and the blood keeps pouring nothing you dramatic bit still like Woah u good??? (don't feel forced to do this btw, also I love ur writing!!!)
hey anon!! I sorry for being this late to your request, I hope my writing is a fine apology for that.
Haemophilia is one such genetic disorder where the person's blood doesn't clot easily. Although it is a reccessive gene, you were born with one. It did not pose much threat to you due to the advances in medical treatment keeping you alive for so long, so you never worried too much about it.
You did worry about it when you were asked to come to Devildorm for one year. "One whole year?? How am I supposed to survive there!?" You somehow managed to purchase almost months and months of medicines in your little suitcase, but ofc you were bound to run out of supplies in the far future.
Today was one such day. You counted the leafs of medicines left, and all of them were empty. You were being reckless by not keeping an eye on the medicine, and now you have none. Worried, you were trying not to panic in your small cozy room. After taking deep breaths, you came to a conclusion that asking Lucifer to help in this situation would be the best. With that, you went to the kitchen to fulfill Beel's craving of eating your handmade food.
The pot boiling with water and the sound of you cutting the vegetables filled the kitchen. "You called for me? Sorry I was busy with some student council work" you turn your head towards the source of the sound, a soft smile conquring your lips as you meet your eyes with him. He, with a click in his step and his long, black clock hanging from his broad shoulders came up to you and engulfed you in a hug. " how have you been MC?" he spoke in your ear as you continued your chopping. "I am well Lucifer, and yes I did call for you. I need to go back to the human world."
"But why?"
"Because I need to- ouch!"
You took your eyes off of the food to look at Lucifer, which was a bad idea because you now have a cut on your finger from moving the knife wrong. It hurt a bit, but to Lucifer, it seemed as if you have lost half of your body's blood.
"How could you be so careless!? Show me your finger" You could see that his eyes have started to dilate, his fangs have started to appear. Yet he is not even thinking about drinking blood. Instead his eyes, althought appearing to be bloodlustly, are actually filled with concern.
"Did you eat your medicines??"
"Ah, about that...." you told him about not having them, and he sighed. "Well wait here, I have some with me. Don't move from your place and stop cooking" Before he left the kitchen he spoke some words and created magic that collected the blood dripping from your hand. Now you had a small bubble of blood floating in the air that was oozing out.
Lucifer came back within two minutes and handed you the medicine. " Thank you so much Luci, but what will you do with this bubble of blood?" He just gives you a knowing look and brings his tongue near the bubble. You blush slightly as he savours the exotic taste of your blood, the medicine acting fast and stopping the bleeding.
" Why are you blushing MC? Your blood is only for me to taste. Now sit down, grab a dessert from the fridge, and let me finish dinner"
PS: anon you did not mention if Lucifer and MC are in an established relationship or not so I tried to write it in a way that you can insert a romantic/platonic relation between them^^ and also thank you for supporting my writing I appreciate it^^

-Tsar Alexei II-
Dawn breaks on the morning of July 17th, 1988, the 70th anniversary of his father’s death at the hands of the Bolsheviks. A ceremonial procession was planned from the Winter Palace to the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, where his father Nicholas II, his mother Alexandra Feodorovna, and his sisters, Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia were all entombed. The morning’s rays came flooding into the Alexander Study named in honour of his great-grandfather who was assassinated in 1881 and for whom the Church was built on the exact location of his assassination. Tsar Alexei II had survived the Russian Revolution. He had been spirited away the night his parents and sisters were murdered at the Ipatiev house in Yekaterinburg. A group of loyal soldiers from the White Army had infiltrated the local ranks. Their mission was simple… save the Tsesarevich.
The White Army was teeming with loyalist soldiers who felt the Bolsheviks had gone too far in killing their “Little Father”. Governorates were taken back one at a time until the White Army had obliterated the last vestiges of the revolutionary Red Army in 1928. Six months later Alexei Nikolaevich Romanov was crowned Tsar Alexei II, Tsar of all Russia.
He was now 83 years old, his reign had lasted 60 years, 10 years longer than Ivan the Terrible. The Tsar suddenly felt cold and weak. Weak from the burdens of his haemophilia. A treatment had been discovered in the 1950s which did helped to prolong his life. He felt cold and empty from the guilt of all the lives lost during the reign of Lenin in the Russian Civil War (1918-1928).
So many relatives, friends, courtiers, government officials and servants had been slaughtered by Lenin. His soul was tired of the memories of so many atrocities during that bloody war, where brother killed brother. As he sat on the settee he observed his valet, Georg Nicholas von Rintelen, a descendant of his great grandfather’ mistress Catherine Dolgorukova, in the imperial green livery. “Our histories were tied by the intrigues and whispered rumours of scandals in this very room”, he thought.
Alexei looked down at his hands which had been wrinkled and marked with age. He knew his time in the realm of the living was fleeting day by day. The weakness he felt would soon subsided to a warmer feeling of fiery pride. He was proud to have reformed his nation from autocracy to a democratic monarchy, with a Duma of representatives elected by the people, a judiciary to uphold the laws of Imperial Russia, and an executive monarch who commanded the armed forces. All three worked in a checks and balances system adopted from the American model. He glowed with pride and he couldn’t help but brag that he had turned his empire into one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world. Holding all the lands he had inherited by birthright together with social and economical reforms that nurtured his people instead of subjugating them. Ensuring a bright future for all the citizens of his empire.
Alexei was now filled with joy. He thought to himself,“my legacy is complete. I’ve been bestowed the moniker of Alexei The Beloved. I’ve sired my heir, and a couple of spares..”, he chuckled to himself under his breath.
“I’ve done my duty to Mother Russia. I’ve lived a long life of sacrifice to my people. Ruling no longer for the Tsars’ needs but for theirs. They finally have peace and prosperity in their lives. They glorify Mother Russia in their works, deeds, and accomplishments. Let me complete this final deed, to honour my father, mother, and sisters. Then and only then Lord, let our souls finally rest in peace together again in Your glory.”

@amygone: you're just making it worse.
the sky was empty, your prayers had gone unanswered now for months. come flood or famine, [or the dead rising from their graves; familiar faces now bloodied foes] there was an answer, somewhere between the lines of pages you had read for years in the aftermath of father's sobriety. the truth could be found, the answers you were so desperately searching for as to why, why palms bleed with solemn prayer, splintered wood of bat dug into tender flesh as if the front pew of the old church, worn away from years of use and growing pressure. heaven's children murmur about your loss of faith, a growing vacancy in the rattling of your ribcage. what is there to do now with all that empty space? the oblivion now inside you that was once golden turned black. you do not know how to carry on like this, the mantra telling yourself that you were in fact strong, that you knew how to navigate this changing world was dying on your tongue, shrivelled moth in the back of your throat the sign of decay in pit of stomach. there are cracks growing in the sidewalk, and you think that you could spend the seasons watching as flowers attempt to split it further, sprouting in the spring before the fall chill brings the cycle to a natural end; and you will watch as the weeds thrive, how they will quickly outnumber the flowers and grow beyond the asphalt. there is something in that that you almost find funny, but it is lost as you name the newest bloom after yourself, and you will return each day praying for its survival as if the flora was inexplicably linked to your own still beating heart.
and so amy's words proved frustrating, you didn't know what you could do; untapped potential could be just beneath the surface, waiting for skin to break and reveal your true self, hidden strength beneath the first layer of flesh. fingers fidget with weapon, still heavy and unfamiliar in your hands— no one had trusted you before. naivety of youth bled into your words, into your hope as if incurable haemophilia. “i'm trying to help. just—tell me what to do. please.” you wanted to go home, not that the walls still stood, the embers had burned long through that night and the smoke carried on til winter. but the people fashioned into comfort, into something you could call home— they were out there. “if you just tell me what you need then i can do it instead of blindly guessing and doing it wrong. i want to help.”
#int: beth greene#amygone#ok kind of vague but reading ur verses! could be possible that instead of ending up in the prison in s5 beth ended up near/in amy's dads-#compound??? idk idk im spitballing here <3

Have you read any books about The Romanovs, and do you have any recommendations?
hi there!
I’ve read quite a few Romanov-related books and own quite a few more that are currently sitting waiting to be read.
Therefore, I’m going to just list my favourites - the books that I thought were the most enjoyable, had the best information, and really stood out to me.
Nicholas and Alexandra - Robert K. Massie
This probably THE book to start with. It’s fantastic, Massie was a genius when it came to writing! There are one or two inaccuracies, but that’s due to it being published a few decades ago, rather than Massie’s lack of due diligence. There’s a chapter on OTMA if I remember correctly, and a lot of writing about Alexei and his haemophilia. Massie’s son had haemophilia, so he has a really interesting perspective!
The Romanovs: The Last Chapter - Robert K. Massie
A quite science-y look at the discovery of the Romanov’s remains and the science and controversy that followed it. It also includes a section on Anna Anderson, which I didn’t plan on reading, but Massie had such a wonderful writing style that I ended up finishing it! Definitely not a necessity, but provides a very fascinating look into the science and politics surrounding the Romanovs.
The Last of the Tsars - Robert Service
Quite politically heavy, but I wanted to include it as there is quite a lot of info about Tobolsk. Not my favourite, but worth an honourable mention :)
Thirteen Years at the Russian Court - Pierre Gilliard
A must, in my opinion. There are many good books by people who knew the Romanovs, but this one is the best in my view. Gilliard provides lots of detail, fun anecdotes, and an unrivalled look into the dynamics in the family. He was also a skilled writer; the book kept me engaged throughout, which some other contemporary accounts are less successful at!
25 Chapters of my Life - Olga Alexandrovna
A good book if you want to know more about the upbringing of Tsar Alexander III’s children. Her childhood memoirs are very sweet to read and gave me a fresh perspective. She doesn’t write too extensively on OTMA and barely anything about Alexei, but her relationship with her nieces is touched on. Very interesting to see how the Revolution played out as she saw it, and to see the love story between her and Kulikovsky.
A Lifelong Passion, Sergei Mironenko, Andrei Maylunas
A truly fantastic book containing hundreds of letters and diary entries from various Romanov family members.
Romanov Autumn - Charlotte Zeepvat
I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. The biographies of Sergei Alexandrovich and Konstantin Konstantinovich were refreshingly detailed!
Anything written and translated by Helen Azar!!
Her books are mainly translations of OTMA’s diaries and letters, and they are invaluable. Azar often writes little biographies at the start of her books and these are short and sweet overviews of each Grand Duchess’s life, with just enough detail to get a good impression of each of their personalities.
Most of these books you can get quite cheaply second hand. I buy almost all of my Romanov books from second hand websites like World of Books. I got A Lifelong Passion, which is nearly 700 pages, for £3.70 (around 4.50 dollars, 4 euros)!!
I haven’t included some of the more recent mainstream popular Romanov books as I simply did not like them - a LOT of them have a big issue with not citing their sources and regurgitating old rumours that have been debunked which really bothers me! Maybe I'll make a separate post about those some day soon...?
