The Devastating Impact of Coronavirus on Greek Mythology Girls
Greek Mythology Girls Blog, like many other websites, relied heavily on user-generated content and active community participation. However, with the pandemic spreading across the world, people's lives were disrupted, and priorities shifted. As the health crisis escalated, the interest and engagement of readers dwindled. Many followers faced personal hardships, including health issues, financial struggles, and emotional stress, which understandably diverted their attention away from the blog.
The pandemic's consequences were felt by the blog's contributors as well. Writing and researching content on ancient mythology required focus, creativity, and emotional investment. Unfortunately, the pandemic's anxieties and restrictions made it difficult for writers to maintain their usual levels of productivity and dedication. Some contributors might have faced job losses or increased workload due to shifting work dynamics, leaving them with little time or energy to contribute to the blog.
Tumblr media
Another crucial aspect that impacted the blog's reach was the surge in misinformation and sensationalism during the pandemic. With numerous myths and misconceptions about the virus circulating, readers might have been skeptical of consuming content, even if it pertained to mythology. The climate of uncertainty caused people to seek out factual information about the pandemic, often overlooking or dismissing leisurely pursuits like the Greek Mythology Girls Blog.
Furthermore, the pandemic significantly altered online content consumption patterns. People found themselves spending more time on social media and news websites, trying to stay updated on the rapidly changing situation. As a result, niche platforms like the Greek Mythology Girls Blog struggled to compete for attention in an increasingly crowded online space.
Tumblr media
The financial impact of the pandemic also affected the blog's operations. Advertisers, who were themselves dealing with economic challenges, reduced their spending on non-essential platforms like the blog, leading to a decline in revenue. As a result, the blog faced resource constraints, hindering its ability to adapt and overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Despite these setbacks, the Greek Mythology Girls Blog attempted to adapt to the new reality. They might have shifted their focus to discussing how ancient myths and legends could provide valuable insights and comfort during challenging times. They could have also used their platform to raise awareness and funds for pandemic-related causes or support their writers who were facing difficulties.
As the pandemic eventually receded, there might have been opportunities for the blog to regain its footing. The enduring allure of Greek mythology and a sense of community amongst its followers could have helped revitalize the platform. Additionally, they could have explored innovative ways to diversify content, engage with readers, and expand their reach.

The answer is "by the skin of their teeth," but this article is too polite to say it.
By Joshua Boscaini
COVID-19 is evolving and with it the need for new vaccines to protect people against serious illness and death.
Australia has detected its first cases of the highly transmissible XEC "recombinant" variant — a mix of two previous Omicron variants called KS 1.1 and KP 3.3.
Researchers have been working to ensure immunisations that provide an adequate level of protection against new COVID-19 variants are widely available to the community.
So if there are always new variants, how do scientists keep up with mutations and update the vaccines?
How are mRNA COVID-19 vaccines made? When reports of coronavirus first emerged, researchers quickly obtained a genomic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes COVID-19.
This helped researchers work out the genetic make-up of the virus and how it causes disease in people, according to the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI).
Tumblr media
Once scientists analysed the genetic sequence, they identified the spike protein as the most effective target for the immune system and created a copy or code for it.
Unlike traditional vaccines that contain an inactivated or weakened version of the virus, mRNA COVID-19 vaccines contain a message or code that is delivered to someone's cells.
Doherty Institute professor of virology Damian Purcell said that spike protein code — or RNA message — was "packaged" into lipids to keep it protected for distribution in syringes.
Professor Purcell said once the mRNA vaccine — or message — was injected into a person's muscle, it instructed their cells to reproduce the spike protein.
"These are little bubbles of fat, four different lipids, that together encase the RNA [and] enable it to be protected as it is packaged into syringes and injected into your muscle," Professor Purcell said.
"Those lipids facilitate the uptake and delivery of the essential messenger RNA — the message to be coded within your own cells so your own cells start making the … spike protein."
The process triggers an immune response which creates spike protein antibodies.
The NHGRI said those antibodies remained in the body and recognised the virus if someone became infected, attacking the antigen before it reached healthy cells.
How are vaccines modified to keep up with new strains? Westmead Institute for Medical Research Centre for Virus Research director Tony Cunningham said new strains emerged when the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein changed, making the virus more transmissible.
Professor Cunningham said the mRNA vaccines allowed scientists to change the spike protein code and update the vaccine with the new message.
"If you actually think about RNA like DNA is coloured beads on a string — four coloured beads and they vary along the string — then it's in essence changing that sequence," he said.
"You can just simply change the middle bit of the RNA and that can be done very quickly.
"That spike protein is the one that actually allows the virus to attach to the cell and what we want to do is produce antibodies that stop viruses attaching to the cell."
Professor Purcell agreed, saying one of the advantages of mRNA vaccines was they could be changed and produced usually within a month.
"It's actually one of the really powerful aspects of the mRNA technology, is that many, many steps … can remain the same," he said.
Professor Cunningham said the key to responding quickly to new variants was maintaining good surveillance.
He said it was up to the World Health Organization to recommend what strains should be included in updated vaccines.
Professor Cunningham said the vaccines then needed to be approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia to make sure they were safe and effective, a process which could take about two months.
Why do vaccines need to be updated? COVID-19 vaccines need to be updated because they cannot protect against newer strains of the virus as effectively, according to Professor Cunningham.
He said that was because the immune system did not have the same antibodies to recognise and fight off the mutated virus.
"Variants can change so they're no longer completely protected against the antibodies that are circulating," Professor Cunningham said.
"That's why we need to keep changing our vaccines, and … particularly in aging people, we need to be immunised every six months to keep the antibodies up."
Professor Purcell said the first Omicron strain was an "escape" variant that required an updated vaccine.
"When the first Omicron came, it had many, many, many changes — more than we'd ever seen before and that was a very significant escape variant," he said.
"People vaccinated with the ancestral strain of vaccine were not protected from transmission with that COVID variant."
He said while people still had some immunity from the original vaccine, it was not enough.
"We do have some underpinning immunity that's capable of still preventing severe disease from those infections but it is still relevant enough to develop a new strain of vaccine," he said.
What vaccines have been approved for use in Australia? Australian Department of Health statistics showed 72.3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been administered as of October 9.
Pfizer's Omicron XBB. 1.5 and original vaccines were approved for use in children aged five to 11 years old, while Pfizer's original vaccine was also available for children aged six months to four years.
Pfizer's Omicron XBB. 1.5, Original/Omicron BA.4/5 and Moderna's Omicron XBB. 1.5 were available for people aged 12 years and older, according to Healthdirect.
The TGA said it was evaluating Pfizer and Moderna's JN.1 strain vaccine for use in Australia.

What Is Long COVID? Understanding the Pandemic’s Mysterious Fallout > News > Yale Medicine
Originally published: April 15, 2024. Updated: June 4, 2024
Just weeks after the first cases of COVID-19 hit U.S. shores, an op-ed appeared in The New York Times titled “We Need to Talk About What Coronavirus Recoveries Look Like: They're a lot more complicated than most people realize.”
...
Unlike most diseases, Long COVID was first described not by doctors, but by the patients themselves. Even the term “Long COVID” was coined by a patient. Dr. Elisa Perego, an honorary research fellow at University College in London, came up with the hashtag #LongCOVID when tweeting about her own experience with the post-COVID syndrome. The term went viral and suddenly social media, and then the media itself, was full of these stories.
Complaints like "I can't seem to concentrate anymore" or "I'm constantly fatigued throughout the day" became increasingly common, seemingly appearing out of nowhere. With nothing abnormal turning up from their many thorough lab tests, patients and their physicians were left feeling helpless and frustrated.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined Long COVID as the "continuation or development of new symptoms three months after the initial SARS-CoV-2 infection, with these symptoms lasting for at least two months with no other explanation." This deliberately broad definition reflects the complex nature of this syndrome. We now understand that these symptoms are wide-ranging, including heart palpitations, cough, nausea, fatigue, cognitive impairment (commonly referred to as "brain fog"), and more. Also, many who experience Long COVID following an acute infection face an elevated risk of such medical complications as blood clots and (type 2) diabetes.
In April 2024, an estimated 5.3% of all adults in the United States reported having Long COVID, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Data from the CDC suggest that Long COVID disproportionately affects women, and individuals between the ages of 40 and 59 have the highest reported rates of developing this post-acute infection syndrome.
...
Inderjit Singh, MBChB, a YSM assistant professor specializing in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, and director of the Pulmonary Vascular Program, is actively engaged in clinical trials aimed at uncovering the fundamental underpinnings of Long COVID.
...
Through this work, a significant revelation emerged. They observed that patients grappling with Long COVID and facing exercise difficulties were unable to efficiently extract oxygen from their bloodstream during physical exertion. This discovery identifies a specific cause underlying the biological underpinnings of Long COVID.
... Dr. Singh, along with other researchers, is focused on the identification of blood-based markers to assess the severity of Long COVID. For example, a research group, led by Akiko Iwasaki, PhD, Sterling Professor of Immunobiology and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, and director of the Center for Infection & Immunity at YSM, most recently created a new method to classify Long COVID severity with circulating immune markers.
Further investigations conducted by Dr. Singh's team identified distinctive protein signatures in the blood of Long COVID patients, which correlated with the degree of Long COVID severity. Researchers identified two major and distinct blood profiles among the patients. Some of them exhibited blood profiles indicating that excessive inflammation played a prominent role in their condition, while others displayed profiles indicative of impaired metabolism.
...
Researchers currently believe that the impairment of a spectrum of key bodily functions may contribute to these diverse symptoms. These potential mechanisms include compromised immune system function, damage to blood vessels, and direct harm to the brain and nervous system. Importantly, it's likely that most patients experience symptoms arising from multiple underlying causes, which complicates both the diagnosis and treatment of Long COVID.
...
The last word from Lisa Sanders, MD:
I’m the internist who sees patients at Yale New Haven Health’s Multidisciplinary Long COVID Care Center. In our clinic, patients are examined by a variety of specialists to determine the best next steps for these complex patients. Sometimes that entails more testing. Often patients have had extensive testing even before they arrive, and far too often—when all the tests are normal—both doctors and patients worry that their symptoms are “all in their head.”
One of our first tasks is to reassure patients that many parts of Long COVID don’t show up on tests. We don’t know enough about the cause of many of these symptoms to create a test for them. The problem is not with the patient with the symptoms, but of the science surrounding them. If any good can be said to come out of this pandemic, it will be a better understanding of Long COVID and many of the other post-acute infection syndromes that have existed as long as the infections themselves.

COVID-19 makes a worrying comeback, WHO warns amid summertime surge
COVID-19 infections are surging globally, including at the Paris Olympics, and are unlikely to decline anytime soon, the World Health Organization (WHO) says. The UN health agency is also warning that more severe variants of the coronavirus may soon be on the horizon.
“COVID-19 is still very much with us,” and circulating in all countries, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove of WHO told journalists in Geneva.
“Data from our sentinel-based surveillance system across 84 countries reports that the percent of positive tests for SARS-CoV-2 has been rising over several weeks,” she said. “Overall, test positivity is above 10 per cent, but this fluctuates per region. In Europe, percent positivity is above 20 per cent,” Dr. Van Kerkhove added.
New waves of infection have been registered in the Americas, Europe and Western Pacific. Wastewater surveillance suggests that the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 is two to 20 times higher than what is currently being reported. Such high infection circulation rates in the northern hemisphere’s summer months are atypical for respiratory viruses, which tend to spread mostly in cold temperatures.
“In recent months, regardless of the season, many countries have experienced surges of COVID-19, including at the Olympics where at least 40 athletes have tested positive,” Dr. Van Kerkhove said.
As the virus continues to evolve and spread, there is a growing risk of a more severe strain of the virus that could potentially evade detection systems and be unresponsive to medical intervention. While COVID-19 hospital admissions, including for Intensive Care Units (ICUs), are still much lower than they were during the peak of the pandemic, WHO is urging governments to strengthen their vaccination campaigns, making sure that the highest risk groups get vaccinated once every 12 months.
“As individuals it is important to take measures to reduce risk of infection and severe disease, including ensuring that you have had a COVID-19 vaccination dose in the last 12 months, especially, if you are in an at-risk group,” stressed Dr. Van Kerkhove.
Vaccines availability has declined substantially over the last 12-18 months, WHO admits, because the number of producers of COVID-19 vaccines has recently decreased.“It is very difficult for them to maintain the pace,” Dr. Van Kerkhove explained. “And certainly, they don't need to maintain the pace that they had in 2021 and 2022. But let's be very clear, there is a market for COVID-19 vaccines that are out there.”
Nasal vaccines are still under development but could potentially address transmission, thereby reducing the risk of further variants, infection and severe disease.
“I am concerned, “ Dr. Van Kerkhove said. “With such low coverage and with such large circulation, if we were to have a variant that would be more severe, then the susceptibility of the at-risk populations to develop severe disease is huge,” Dr. Van Kerkhove warned.

Is social media useful in spreading information on covid-19 in Malaysia or your country? What is your opinion?
Tumblr media
Gif from giphy
Hi there! This week’s blog is about public health and we will dive a little about the coronavirus disease, also known as covid-19 and in days gone by, named 2019 novel coronavirus. Coronavirus was first spotted at one of open air “wet market” in Wuhan, China. Afterwards, during that time, there was an assumption that there might a coronavirus originated in one of lab in China as a biological weapon. However, the newest reports concur that the coronavirus is not an engineered virus being developed to become a biological weapon.
What is social media role during coronavirus issue?
According to (Abbas et al., 2021), people usage time on social media is higher than usual during COVID-19 pandemic period since social media is the only platform where people can search for health information for their own and their loved one’s benefits. Due to global crisis and health disaster during the pandemic, social medias have become the most welcome relief for people.
(Abbas et al., 2021) also stated, typically, users will create or share about health information that already available via local or international sources as their response to an international public health issue.
As social media platforms can bring impacts to people, people also need someone who can share their own life experience or their knowledge about health issue and shared their experience or knowledge about health information. This method called peer support. The peer support concept on social media is referring to health information that will help people to know more about Covid-19 pandemic issue. People will be searching for health-related news regarding to Covid-19 pandemic in their social media account, for example the most common one is Facebook. Since Covid-19 pandemic brought “culture shock” to the world, people will be searching for the detailed health-related update and stay keep in touch with family, friends and peers. Public communication and interaction searching for accurate information and opportunity of Covid-19 to create proper virus prevention on social media. Since social media provides the latest news and trustable information to the world, social media have become the central role in answering in global health crisis issue.

Social media and electronic government (E-government) role during Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia

First Covid-19 case detected in Malaysia after three individuals had a close contact with one individual in Singapore. They had their trip into Malaysia from Singapore on January 24th 2020 and tested positive on January 25th 2020. After that, on the February 4th 2020, the very first Malaysian was tested positive Covid-19 after he returned from Singapore and started to cough and had fever.
During the pandemic time, the Ministry of Health of Malaysia take advantages of social media to educate and spread the awareness to the public about the Covid-19 precautions. On 18th March 2020 until 18th April 2020, the Malaysia Government implemented Movement Control Order (MCO) to control the Covid-19 from widespread.
During the entire period of Covid-19, social media accounts for example like X (previously known as Twitter) and WeChat were used to share the updates about preventive measure and healthcare. After Tan Sri Muhyiddin implemented MCO, the media started to actively using the #stayhome hashtag to spread the awareness. The government of Malaysia come up with enough latest information to the public via the Official Portal of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, verified Facebook page named Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia posted about the Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CRPC) and Telegram channel named CPRC KKM.
The Malaysia government also launched one application that can only used on mobile named MySejahtera in April 20202 to help all the users to keep track of their health progress, helping the authorities to collect the latest information, check in location and come up with the most essential and fast reply.

Now, if you ask me, i would definitely say yes. I do agree that social media is useful in spreading information on Covid-19 because through social media is the way that Ministry of Health Malaysia can reach out to the people since gathering is not allowed during the MCO period. People will depend on social media to stay connected with their family or friend and also to get the latest update regarding to health issues.

The fact that the ⚪️neighbor hasn't even been arrested, is beyond disgusting, and sadly expected.
If AJ Owens had been the shooter, she'd have been in jail since the day it happened. 😑

Calls for woman's arrest grow after the fatal shooting of her neighbor in Florida

Calls are growing for the arrest of a woman accused of shooting her neighbor Friday in Florida in an incident a nationally renowned civil rights attorney described as an “unjustified killing.”
The children of the victim, identified as Ajike “AJ” Owens, were playing in a field near an apartment complex in Ocala when, attorney Ben Crump said, an unidentified white woman, 58, “began yelling at them to get off her land and calling them racial slurs.”
According to Crump’s statement, after the woman yelled slurs at Owens’ children, they accidentally left an iPad behind, which the woman took.
When one of Owens’ children went to retrieve it, she threw it, hitting the boy and cracking the screen. Owens walked across the street to speak to her neighbor after she learned what happened, Crump said.
Tumblr media
At a news conference Monday, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods did not confirm or reject Crump’s account, telling reporters he was not “going to stand here and tell you what they’re putting out there is inaccurate. It’s just I don’t know yet.”
Here’s what the sheriff said he does know:
There had been a long-standing “neighborhood feud” between the shooter and Owens about her children. “I've got reports that one side or the other — either the mother, Ms. Owens, or the shooter — has called,” Woods said. “Complaining about the children — children being children.”
The children may have been hit by a pair of skates. “Was something thrown at them? Yes, but not directly at them of what we’re being told now,” Woods said. “It just unfortunately may have hit them.” He added: “The children are a big part of answering a lot our questions.”
When Owens came to the shooter's door, there was a heated exchange. Owens was shot through the door.
At least two of Owens’ four children may have witnessed the shooting, which occurred about 9 p.m.
Woods promised Owens’ family his office will provide all resources available to seek justice in the case.
“I wish our shooter would have called us instead of taking actions into her own hands,” he said, adding investigators are trying to determine whether Florida’s “stand your ground” law applies in the shooting.
In general, Floridians can defend themselves with deadly force if they believe they are in imminent danger or death — and not only when they are inside their homes. A person being threatened is not required to try to flee.
“That law has specific instructions for us in law enforcement, and any time that we think or perceive or believe that ... might come into play, we cannot make an arrest,” Woods said. “The law specifically says that, and what we have to rule out is whether the deadly force was justified or not before we can even make the arrest.”
Sheriff: 'Neighborhood feud' ends in Fla. mother's fatal shooting
At a news conference Monday afternoon at New St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ocala, Owens' mother, Pamela Dias, said her daughter was acting as a protective mother when she went to her neighbor's home looking for answers about why she treated her children like she did.
"The mother, the protector of her children, she wanted to know why this happened. A closed, locked door. The door never opened. My daughter, my grandchildren's mother, was shot and killed with her 9-year-old son standing next to her. She had no weapon. She posed no imminent threat to anyone," Dias said.
The Marion County NAACP president, Bishop J. David Stockton III, said the shooting is just the latest case of Black people living their lives only to be met by unreasonable violence.

"The truth is we've gotten to a point where Black folks are almost living in a day where we are afraid to go outside," he said. "Our children and adults deserve to live in a world where they do not live in fear of their neighbors."
Attorney Anthony D. Thomas, who represents the Owens family, said the community is closely watching how the sheriff's office handles the investigation.
"We need an arrest," Thomas said. "Make no mistake about it. We do support our sheriff. But at the same time, we want him to do the job that he promised that he would do, and we want swift justice."

Remain Vigilant: Phishing Scams Are On the Rise
Remain Vigilant: Phishing Scams Are On the Rise
Tumblr media
web.com CYBER SECURITY Key Takeaways - Your business needs a strategy in place to protect your organization from phishing. - First, you need to know what these scams look like. The economy has undergone an extreme transformation, and companies in all kinds of fields are looking to update their customers on the availability of their products and services. Unfortunately, scammers have noticed this trend, too, and they’ve been amplifying their phishing efforts in its wake. It’s become such a problem that the US Secret Service issued a warning to corporate America about coronavirus phishing. All business owners should be wary of this type of cybercrime, especially when you consider that cyberattacks cost small business owners an average of $200,000. To protect your business from phishing, you’ll need to have a smart security strategy in place. But before we get to that, let’s quickly define exactly what a phishing email is.  What Is Email Phishing? Email phishing is an attempt to steal private information from a person or business that will be used for theft, blackmail or other nefarious purposes.  This scam is executed by emailing misleading requests to click website links or email attachments which then install malicious software such as keyloggers or ransomware.  These scammers usually disguise themselves by posing as businesses or government agencies that potential victims would typically engage with. For example, during the pandemic, many phishers have been sending emails designed to look like official communications from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  Phishers may also pretend to be a local business or even an individual you know seeking funds for coronavirus relief. Don't assume that an email is secure just because the name of a person or business you recognize appears as the sender's name or in the subject line. How to Identify Email Phishing Protecting your business from phishing emails is a two-part strategy. The first part is to make sure that you and the other people in your company know how to identify email phishing. The second is having a cybersecurity solution in place that monitors the security of all of your business-related computers and mobile devices. Let's start with a few simple tips.
Tumblr media
web.com CYBER SECURITY Be Wary of Email Addresses and Domain Names You Don’t Recognize Say you receive an email that looks completely legitimate from an entity you normally interact with, but if you’ve never seen the email address before, or the domain name in the email address isn’t the same as the organization’s website. If that's the case, then there's a good chance that it’s a phishing email.  Additionally, most businesses will not use an email address from a free email provider such as @gmail.com or @yahoo.com. Emails sent from these addresses that purport to be from businesses or government agencies should immediately arouse suspicion. It’s worth noting here that email addresses with domain names that end in “.gov” are probably legitimate. That’s because .gov domain names are carefully regulated and only given to government bodies. So unless they’ve been hacked, which is very unlikely, they should be safe.  Poor Spelling and Grammar Can Be Tell-Tale Signs of Phishing Here’s a truth that applies to virtually everyone: most of the world does not speak the same language as you. Many or most of the scammers who send you phishing emails won’t speak the same language as you, either.  To overcome this barrier, they’ll translate their phishing email into your language using translation software. Fortunately, these translation methods are often imperfect, so the phishing messages you get will commonly have spelling and grammatical errors, which can make them easier to identify, Suspicious Links and Attachments Should Be Scrutinized When it comes to phishing emails, it’s worth reinforcing that the link or attachment is what the scammer wants you to click on. Scammers will try to hide the link they want you to click on by embedding it in an image that says something like, “Click Here to Get Coronavirus Relief!”  As mentioned before, the US Secret Service warned of scammers sending Microsoft Office files with malicious software attached to them. As a general rule, you should avoid clicking any link or attachment from anyone unless it’s something you’re expecting.  If you’ve applied all three of these tactics and are still unsure if an email from an organization is phishing or not, contact the company directly by phone or email to verify. Just don’t use the contact information that was provided in the email in question. Preventing Cybercrime Is Everyone’s Responsibility Odds are you will receive coronavirus phishing emails. It’s up to you and your team members to follow best practices for cybersecurity. Still, there's only so much your team can do. That’s why it’s so important to have firewalls and other forms of security in place, such as Web.com's Cyber Security Solution. This tool actively monitors the security on your mobile devices and work computers and also provides access to a team of experts who can help resolve cybersecurity issues. Ask yourself how you feel about your business’s cybersecurity strategy. Do you have a strong one in place? If not, encourage your team to be open about the subject, make sure they know how to spot phishing and give all of your devices an added layer of security with a proper security solution. By following our tips, you'll protect yourself and your business during the coronavirus crisis and beyond. CYBER SECURITY, GET SECURED Read the full article

Last update folks!
Our charity (World Vision: Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund ) we promised all left over proceeds has ended.
With permission of the zine contributors, we have donated this zines proceeds to UNICEF! http://unicefusa.org/mission/covid-%E2%80%A6
When we started this project a year ago, our expectations were rock bottom. We assumed the interest would be low and the sales even lower. Nonetheless, the mods and I prepared to use our own personal funds to bring this project to life
With this in mind, we had a few goals:
>Keep our prices low
>Add merch
>A free zine to each contributor
Not only did we reach our goals but this project was fully funded by our sales with some leftovers to donate!
To say the we’re pleasantly surprised at not needing to use our own money is an understatement.
We made a big beautiful 180-page physical zine, content from some of the best artists and writers in this fandom. Bundled together with some stellar merch.
The idea that we were able to create a fully funded niche dark kink zine with all the bells and whistles leaves me in awe.
I’m so grateful for everyone’s support. This is my first time running a zine - hell this is my first time participating in one - and I am so happily overwhelmed at what we’ve achieved!
So on behalf of the entire DD mod team - Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

When I Thought COPPA Was Bad Enough, There's CORONAVIRUS... Current Project Updates and... I'm On Twitch Now!
-Posted on the original website on: April 13, 2020
You guys haven't heard from me in a while, yes I know, but rest assured, I'm ok despite what's going on throughout the entire world right now. COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus, has forced people into confinement not knowing when life will be back to normal again. This quarantine life however, doesn't affect me much because well... as an indie animator and artist, I pretty much live life at home by default and I'm quite used to it. The only thing about that that affects me is I can't go out for walks or fresh air anymore when I need to clear my head. So trying to stay sane has become more challenging in that sense.
Work work work work werk werk WERK
Tumblr media
If you guys have read my previous post or even the post before that, you'll know I've been working on this HUGE project about a talking Pikachu that claims itself as a great detective, which is the reason why Super Hero Clock is on hold. Again.
I started working on my Detective Pikachu fan animation September last year and so far, I've done over 15 minutes of its raw animation. At this point, I've only just past the middle of the whole animation. Since I work on it at home, the quarantine where I live shouldn't affect work progress and I can still carry on with the rest of the animation pretty much as usual - which is a good thing.
If you guys haven't noticed already, I've been trying to be more active on Twitter these days. I have posted WIP screenshots, GIFs and quick updates on this Detective Pikachu project there, which I don't post here. Of course, I tweet other random stuffs as well when I'm bored. Here's my Twitter if you wanna follow me there.
Tumblr media
This quarantine though, HAS made me do one thing that I keep dilly-dally -ing about - streaming on Twitch. I always thought chances of me being able to hang out with internet friends (or maybe just online acquaintances) in real life was slim. But now, it is obvious that there is no chance for that to happen at all, even if quarantine is over. So I thought that the only way I could possibly get a "better social life" or just reach out to people is to do online streaming. Hence, I've set up my Twitch channel. It's still new and pretty much blank but I'll try my best to find some time to stream some stuff, which would mostly be games. I do speak in some streams so yea, maybe I could talk to you guys sometime! Feel free to follow me on Twitch!
Although the global lockdown due to this virus outbreak is not really a problem to me, I am aware that a lot you guys out there who are extroverts are having a hard time staying at home or staying sane at home or just trying to survive. Humanity is facing its hardest challenge yet. But as long as we keep our heads, we should be able to pull through. Be stronger, be smarter, and you'll be safe.
Take a deep breath, keep calm and stay focused... AND WORK

Some 4.5 billion people worldwide are currently without adequate access to essential healthcare services, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
This comes as more than 100,000 cases of mpox and at least 200 deaths have been confirmed globally, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, with the WHO declaring it a public health emergency earlier this year.
The ongoing cholera outbreak in Sudan alone has affected almost 15,000 people with at least 473 deaths reported, according to the country’s health ministry.
A new COVID-19 variant has spread across 27 countries, infecting hundreds of people.
At the 2024 World Economic Summit, it was also revealed that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become the leading cause of death globally and could kill 10 million people by 2050.
A report titled Quantifying the Impact of Climate Change on Human Health, launched earlier this year, predicts that by 2050, an additional 14.5 million deaths could occur due to climate change as well as $12.5 trillion in economic losses globally.
With healthcare systems across the world already under extra stress, they could face an additional $1.1 trillion burden due to the impact of climate change, the report added.
Al Jazeera spoke to Dr Ahmed Ogwell, vice president of global health strategy at the United Nations Foundation and former deputy director general for the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), on the current state of healthcare, the risk of infections and diseases across the globe and whether the world has learned any lessons from the coronavirus pandemic.
Al Jazeera: Let’s start with the general health situation of the world. What risk level are we talking about with infections and diseases?
Ogwell: For the general health of the world, I’d put the temperature at moderate risk right now. We are in the middle of a public health emergency of international concern that is the mpox multi-country outbreak. It means that we need to be in heightened surveillance and ensuring we have the health tools that we need and that we also need to be improving the way we work together as a global community.
Secondly, there are increasing numbers of disease outbreaks – not just disease threats – including mpox, dengue fever, cholera, polio etc. And we still have effects of COVID on health systems. The world is still not comfortable when it comes to health issues.
Finally, the current geopolitical situation. We need to be coming together as a globe to address these issues because they are very international and cross-border in nature. But the situation is still hindering the delivery of a more united front to address global health. The world is at a moderate risk and can go either way, depending on what we do as a global community.
A heightened level of preparedness is required. There is a lot more we can do to make the situation more comfortable.
Al Jazeera: You spoke about preparedness. Is the world prepared for another pandemic? Did we learn any lessons from COVID?
Ogwell: Well, the lessons we should have learned from COVID, we did not. You see how we wore our masks, washed our hands, sanitised and kept our distance during the pandemic. Today, the situation has been completely forgotten. You don’t see anyone really wearing masks even when they are sneezing their heads off. That’s why we are struggling with controlling things we should have been able to.
At the healthcare level, the systems we put in place should have clicked in globally to address the potential outbreak of diseases. These systems were folded up when COVID passed. For example, the temperature scanning machines at airports. It means the very basic screening mechanism of someone who is feverish is not there.
At the policy level, during COVID we had vaccines being processed within six to seven months. But today, mpox has come and you don’t see the same urgency in trying to bring it under control. We have dengue fever and we don’t hear the same urgency. Policymakers are also seemingly not compelled to accommodate the lessons we should have learned from COVID.
Al Jazeera: You mentioned mpox. What is the situation with its spread and how worried should we be?
Ogwell: The risk is still high for spread because of the ease of communication that we have around the world today. The mode of transmission of mpox is close contact. Someone can carry it to another part of the world easily and can transfer it, setting off a chain that results in something bigger than it is right now.
In this world, an outbreak anywhere is a risk of an outbreak everywhere.
We need to put into good use the lessons of COVID, Ebola, cholera. All these outbreaks required solidarity across borders. Those who have the tools, resources and knowledge needed to address the outbreak, they need to provide support.
Al Jazeera: This solidarity, the geopolitical nature of the world today, where wars and conflict are aplenty, does not really work, right? How does this affect the state of global health?
Ogwell: Well, the reality on the ground is very different to a perfect world where the above would have worked well. The presence of humanitarian crises, where you find people living in very unsavoury conditions – being forced to consume very unhealthy water or food, forced to breathe very unhealthy air – the risks are twofold.
The first is the risk of contracting disease for the affected community whether it is IDPs or refugees in a conflict area or warzone. A situation like that becomes a breeding ground for new superbugs to develop. It may be that people there start getting used to difficult situations. When you start developing certain coping mechanisms, the bugs in you will also start adjusting to that new situation. If they get out in communities that are not under similar stressful circumstances, it becomes a new variant or a new type of resistance that developed with those bugs. The rest of the world immediately becomes at risk, whether it is a resistant variant or deadlier variant. And these environments, these conflict areas, can wreak havoc on the rest of the health system across the world.
Al Jazeera: Is climate change also playing its part forming these environments that you talked about?
Ogwell: Health is the face of climate change because it comes in a painful way. Communities that may not have experienced a certain disease are now areas being colonised by diseases that were only found in certain places because of these weather changes.
It is also the [duration] of conditions that gives rise to diseases. When there’s flooding and a lot of water stays for only a few hours, chances are slim that you’ll get water-borne disease. But if it stays for longer, the community may be affected.
As climate change continues to ravage the world, we find communities suffering for a long period. Natural disasters give rise to a situation where a disease can be able to grow.
Also, areas, for example, forests or glaciers, now become exposed to human beings. When we go into caves, forests and ocean depths that we have never been to, there may be bugs and pathogens that the human beings have never been in touch with. Because of the interaction due to climate change, those bugs, pathogens, animals, insects then get into the human population and we start seeing diseases never experienced before.
Al Jazeera: Let’s talk about healthcare. Some 4.5 billion people are currently without adequate access to essential healthcare services. Why is healthcare such a luxury?
Ogwell: It’s because of government investment in the health sector. Most governments have very low levels of investment there and this means that the vulnerable population is unable to access quality healthcare.
The second reason is the commercialisation of healthcare. It has been so heavily commercialised that you find in some jurisdictions the governments actually getting out of health services. You then have a population that is not heavily wealthy and it means the vulnerable are not going to have access to good healthcare, if any at all.
That commercialisation needs to be within certain parameters and boundaries so it doesn’t end up being a burden on the vulnerable.
This interview has been edited for clarity and length.

When he retired, Fauci had made $710 million in royalties from Big Pharma (including mRNA) — a fact he tried to hide (also the media).
For example, from Sep 2009 to Oct 2021, $325 million in 56,000 transactions:

It wasn’t enough for Fauci, the 21st century Dr. Mengele, father of COVID, lockdowns and the lethal haccines.
Now taxpayers keep paying millions for his bodyguards to protect him from the very taxpayers he culled.
Supreme irony, huh! What could happen if Trump defunds his protection? Ideas?
For the past two years, Dr. Anthony Fauci has received $15,000,000 in taxpayer-funded security services – despite having returned to private citizenship. Open the Books discovered the arrangement within a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the U.S. Marshals service and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) via a Freedom of Information Act request.
Up until at least late September, this agreement between the two government agencies has left the American taxpayer on the hook for the costs attached to Dr. Fauci’s lifestyle, which included a publicly-funded chauffeur and a fully staffed U.S. Marshals security detail. The $15 million does not include the costs associated with his personal security from April 2020 to December 2022, which was handled by the same parties  while he was still serving in government.
Fauci’s security has been a topic of discussion on cable news and in the halls of Congress, but until now, the details of the secret agreement had not been made public.
According to the MOU, protection was available from January 4, 2023-September 20, 2024. The $15 million covers in part:
Salaries and benefits for deputies and administrative personnel assigned to Fauci’s protective detail
Costs related to transporting Fauci
Law enforcement equipment
The MOU states that the contract could be extended, and it is unknown if it has been. We asked the Marshals Service for clarification, and they did not get back to us within our deadline. We will provide an update if they respond.
The former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), who retired in December of 2022, was one of the most influential figures in America and throughout the world during the coronavirus era. Nearly ubiquitous on cable and broadcast news, Fauci became the face of America’s pandemic response.  His supporters often spoke of him as a man of uncontested knowledge, consistently labeling him the world’s foremost “public health expert.”

Update for Online Tech Writing Students (11.11.24)
Note on Fieldwork, Plan, Budget RD (2), Mon. 11.11.24
Based on conversations with students I’ve met with over the past two weeks, emails, and your second RDs, I just wanted to send a note related to plans and fieldwork as they intersect with a budget.
It is often difficult to find specific budgetary information for SVC. However, that is okay as long as you can find some real-world indications of possible financial information related to your plan. This information often comes from models and is meant to be something other than a 100% accurate financial projection. If accepted and funded, any proposal is frequently adjusted or altered by the funding source.
So, for our purposes, think of your budget as a “gesture to reality,” which shows that you can think critically and practically and is an evidence-driven representation of your plan.
For instance, if my project concerns raising environmental awareness and SVC, you will find an ecological awareness club here. It would be easier to find out if clubs have budgets, how much that budget is, and how it is awarded and tracked than to determine how much the school spends on a specific item.
In other words, consider the local budget and see what you can find. As long as the budget is anchored in data or reality in some way and not just populated with prices you google, you are fine. The budget is the smallest slice or representation of your project as a whole—the majority of its success in our class depends on developing the problem, population, paradigm, and plan.
There is some general budgetary SVC information online. Whether or not it is helpful to you depends on what you are trying to do in your project:
SVC Consumer Information
National Center for Education Statistics Report on SVC
2022-2023 Annual Report
Non-profit tax filings (Click “View Filing” or “Audits” for more detailed info there.)
CARES Act Information (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act)
President’s Report 2021-2022
Review article on 2019-202 President’s Report
Review article on 2018-2019 President’s Report
The same goes for fieldwork, which is why I have my “politesse” warning on the Fieldwork, Plan, Budget doc:
When we identify a problem, it doesn’t mean we are trashing something. I don’t want you to get in hot water during fieldwork. We start with a problem and end with the most practical, realistic, and research-driven plan possible. The overall aim is positive, to make something better. This consideration is essential if you are talking to someone at SVC, a smaller, tight-knit, fantastic community. You don’t want anyone to feel attacked, so always be sure to preface any questions, emails, etc., with something like the following: “I am working on a project for English 1080: Technical Writing, with Dr. Peter Sorrell from the English Department. The class is set up along a professional writing model where we identify a problem and population with national and local significance, as well as theory and models, before coming up with our plan with a price for a possible patron.”
The fieldwork and budget information is usually simpler than we think. Just asking some friendly questions and making sure the people you are talking to (in-person is often better for this sort of thing) feel appreciated can go a long way, especially at a fantastic college that, however, does not have the drive to 100% transparency that is required at state colleges (which is what I am more used to). SVC works well! But, sometimes, people might see pointed questions as criticism of their actions. So, just ask some basic non-leading questions that let the person you are asking a favor enjoy sharing their expertise with you :)
The most helpful response for fieldwork is fundamental information about how things work that you can’t find anywhere else. For instance, I had no idea that students at SVC had unlimited black-and-white printing until a student in my Core Writing class told me last Friday. That is awesome and will affect how I run specific courses in the future, as it helps students to do things on paper sometimes. But, the other schools I have taught at have always had pay printing, so I have been reluctant to ask students at SVC to print anything.
The “fieldwork” we are doing is not the same as if we were engaging in academic primary research. If I were studying a stream to find out what kind of effect road and lawn runoff has had on the macroinvertebrate population (like crayfish), I would use a sampler (like a big box with a net bottom and walls) for the streambed and then a net to capture anything in the drift of the stream, do 500 other things to adjust for conditionals, compare to previous data, etc., etc. That is not what we are doing. We are trying to discover the relevant “institutional knowledge” to help us better propose a realistic and practical plan at the place in question.
Hopefully, that helps quell some anxieties about the transition to the action-oriented plan part. I am looking forward to reviewing the RD Intros and Lit Reviews.
