JFJWKXJJS Okay so I had to draw my boy Ranger since I never posted any art of him. He's just a little guy :]
I'm only around half way done writing the second chapter 🥲 life gets in the way. But fortunately I don't think anyone is very interested in it (yet?) So nobody is waiting for this update. Huzzah! The perks of having no audience.
Glamrock Marionette my beloved 🤲

They actually didn’t cut the Original Score category that year, instead they filled the nomination slots with 4 straight Plays that happened to have background music! 🙂
Tumblr media
But let’s not forget where the American Theatre Wing REALLY had egg on their faces by having only 3 nominees (*the aforementioned jukebox musicals) for Best Musical and ONLY Aaron Tveit for Best Lead Actor in a Musical rather than acknowledge that The Lightning Thief existed at all! 🙂🙂🙂

Wood Engraving Wednesday
THÉO SCHMIED
The French painter and illustrator Pierre Brissaud (1885-1964) was commissioned to produce watercolor illustrations for the 1950 Limited Edition Club (LEC) production of Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary. The watercolors were turned over to the workshop of master French wood engraver Théo Schmied (1900-1985) to be reproduced for the edition as these remarkable, multi-block color wood engravings.
Schmied's Swiss-born father François-Louis Schmied (1873-1941), also a wood engraver and formally trained in the book arts, established his Paris workshop in 1910 to produce deluxe, illustrated limited editions. Théo Schmied took over the management of his father's workshop beginning in 1924 and inherited the business after his father's death.
This edition was designed by Francis Meynell of the Nonesuch Press in London, with the text composed in Monotype Ehrhardt at the Curwen Press under the supervision of Ernest Ingham and printed letterpress at the Marchbanks Press in New York on specially-made paper bearing the title of the book as watermark by the Curtis Paper Company of Newark, Delaware. The edition is limited to 1500 copies signed by Pierre Brissaud.

I wasn‘t even aware that there was a Deep Rock Galactic Boardgame, but it‘s very cool to see how you‘re painting the Minis!
Thank you so much! There most certainly is, and the Kickstarter for the expansions just started delivering the boxes. It's quite fun! In addition to the whole DRG theme, it's a solid co-op dungeon crawler with huge variety in the maps, monsters, and missions. The spacerig expansion even introduces dynamic campaign (Assignments) generation with upgrades and resources carried over between missions.
The deluxe version with the plastic minis is a little pricey, but it does have 49 minis just in the base game, which will still be cheaper than buying 49 Warhammer minus to paint. If you want more info, the DRG discord has a channel for it - And if you want to try before you buy, Tabletop Simulator has a copy of it on the workshop! Either way, good luck and Rock and Stone!

one of my buddies made a custom super go fish deluxe deck for our group chat and let me say it's one of the best things we've ever done
Fuck yes.
See, this is why I always get a little confused when people ask if they can download the deck we used. Aside from the obvious "we don't have permission to distribute other people's workshop uploads", it's like... slapping that shit together with your friends is part of the fun.

I’ve been workshopping the Underworld Friends AU more, and have decided the group is going to be wandering through a section of Hades based on their combined experiences in life. Which is to say... that, the first ‘world’ might be based on Cookie Country, Patched Plains, and Fine Fields combined.
But something else that’s going to be influenced by their memories and the respective games they come from is some of the enemies they’ll fight over the course of their journey. These enemies-- who will be guarding pieces of the collectibles the group is aiming to gather, will be based on the bosses of the games said characters debuted in.
Some of these won’t be too interesting. Yeah, yeah-- whatever... fighting Whispy Woods again for the fiftieth time. But a few of the bosses from Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, and Return to Dreamland are... peculiar.
These bosses happen to be characters that Magolor, Haltmann and Sectonia knew on a personal level. And that means the encounters with them will be much more interesting.
A Taranza based on Sectonia’s memories of the person who got fed up with her and helped kill her... a Susie based on the traitorous secretary who Haltmann still doesn’t know the motives of... a Landia ridden by the four heroes Magolor still perceives as resenting him...
What sort of fight will they put up? And what sort of realizations will they force our characters to come to about the sort of people they are?
Either way, seems our group isn’t going to be having a fun time.

Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters - The Jazz Workshop, Boston, Massachusetts, November 13, 1973
Improvised rock! Seems like Columbia Records was trying to avoid the word "jazz" when it came to Herbie Hancock. I think I would've gone with "visionary future funk." But whatever, Herbie and the Headhunters are in a class of their own, and their first record together, the supreme Head Hunters, turns 50 years old later this year. Has there ever been a deluxe edition of this album, with outtakes, alternate mixes, live jams, etc.? I don't think there has, which is a little surprising — especially since Herbie mentions on this WBCN broadcast that they recorded eight tracks for the LP but there was only room for four of 'em on a single vinyl record. Hmmm!
While you ponder that mystery, enjoy an excellent hour of the Headhunters at the Jazz Workshop on Boylston, taped right before Head Hunters came out. We listened to Herbie with his Sextant-era band at the same venue a little while back, and the difference is illuminating. The grooves are ridiculous.
"Even though we'd gotten into this whole untethered thing, I noticed that Miles started having records in his house by pop artists and R&B artists like James Brown," Herbie remembered recently in an Uncut Q&A. "I started listening James Brown and then I started listening to Sly Stone and that was the funkiest stuff I'd ever heard! I got tired of playing this untethered music and wanted to change direction. I wanted something more earthy. That's when I decided to do Head Hunters."
PS - During a break in the broadcast, the DJ delivers a promo for an upcoming Genesis gig at Tufts University. Can I help you out with a recording of that one? Yeah, I can.

Evaluation
In this evaluation I will be discussing my progress within my second unit and my thought generation of my design decisions. I have thoroughly enjoyed this unit as I'm really interested and passionate about packaging and advertising and aim to continue this when I leave university. Since my last unit I have wanted to develop my skills further to improve myself as a designer by going out my comfort zone and exploring different approaches since my last unit feedback. I have developed and refined my initial ideas and design for my final piece through my in-depth research leading up to my final designs and concept behind my final pieces. I wanted to pick a product which had existing packaging which personally was boring and dull and change that with my own design to show and create an impact for my target audience of 30-40 years. I selected rubber gloves and my main aim was to create / design a deluxe side to relate to my concept of leading away from the idea of using rubber gloves as a chore to complete simple housekeeping activities. I wanted my packaging to express a sense of enjoyment/enjoyment instead of a negative thought when completing these tasks. Throughout I have manage my time much better than last term and completed daily check lists to ensure I was up to date and constantly idea generating to ensure my work could always be improved. As I loved completing this brief, I was motivated to continue working outside of university hours to ensure I wasn’t leaving everything to the last minute like I did with my last unit slightly.
I had received helpful feedback from Hannah and Mark through this unit every week which definitely improved and considered elements which I may needed to adjusting and improve to develop my designs. I documented this feedback and any other feedback I received from peers to show my refinement throughout which was extremely useful to gather a second option. When reflecting on my final designs I wish I researched and practised hierarchy into poster design generally as I really struggled with this part of my unit. So, an area of design process I need to practise more in is my InDesign skills which I could do through video tutorials and addition workshops as this would be very beneficial within my future work. Another element I need to improve on is my public speaking as this is a critical part when I leave university when presenting to clients. I really struggled with this, so I want to improve this and push myself to be more confident. As this unit has been very hands on, I have learnt a lot this term through new software’s such as aftereffects, composition, hierarchy, time management etc.
In conclusion, I'm very pleased with what I've accomplished and produced within a high-quality standard. When reflecting on my body of work this term I would improve my approach to my designs and create an outcome which is more typographic as I'm really interested in learning and gaining new skills.
