Idea for a short story
One day in the middle of a typical workday, all CEOs, executives, and board members poof out of existence all at once, all over the world. Anyone promoted to fill their shoes also instantly disappears the moment it's finalized. Corporations have to soldier on without the very top of their power structures and discover that, it's surprisingly easy. The economy takes an upswing as the wealth of the executives is parceled out to their dependent children who didn't already have an executive position or seat on any board of directors, who then spend it on personal interests rather than hoarding it in offshore accounts. Attempts to reinstate CEOs by calling them things like Super Bosses and Business Chiefs have similar results as promotions, until it's realized that having a liaison between departments fills most of the functions of a CEO without poofing the individual in question.
