Chicago organizers will not hold a Women’s March in January 2019
Chicago organizers announced in November they will not host the annual Women’s March amid rising controversy about the national organization’s link with Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan following his anti-Semitic comments.
GEAR UP FOR THE MARCH! ORDER YOUR T-SHIRT
Tumblr media
Farrakhan drew criticism last February when he delivered a speech attended by the national organization’s co-chair with comments like “the powerful Jews are my enemy.” Though leaders of organization condemned his comments a month later, local chapters throughout the country began dissociating from the national group.
Last year, about 300,000 people gathered in Grant Park for the Women’s March, which was about 50,000 more than in 2017. Sara Kurensky, a Women’s March Chicago board member, told the Chicago Tribune in December that marches with such a large turnout can cost more than $150,000, a steep price after already hosting a “March to the Polls” event in October, which 100,000 people attended in Grant Park.
While the cost was a major reason for cancelling the march, Kurensky told the Tribune that the opportunity for the Chicago chapter to separate further from the national organization was a “side benefit.”
Other cities like Boston, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. will still hold marches on Jan. 19 along with nearby Illinois cities like New Lenox, Rockford and Woodstock.
Even without a march, Chicago organizers still plan to host an event or activity on Jan. 19, 2019 to honor the occasion — the details of which have yet to be determined.
“There’s no march, there’s no rally,” Kurensky told the Tribune. “We’re going to provide ways for people to organize and take action in their local communities.”
A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that Women’s March Chicago cancelled the march. A plan for a march in Chicago was never announced. The Daily regrets this error.

#women’s march : Our future is in our hands
#women’s march : Our future is in our hands
The women’s march is an extra occasion to reinforce and unite us, women, for empowering humanity.
But let us all remember that the most effective and lasting movements do not only take place in a specific day, or place. They are the ones which last and apply to our everyday quest of integrity and inner construction.
In our daily walk through life, in every step we make, whether it is in the…

Madonna is really upset with the Donald Trump presidency, hence why she admitted she has “thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House“. This, the pop star said during her speech at the Women’s March held in Washington on Saturday.

Natürlich nicht. Der Jakobsweg ist keine ausschliessliche Frauen-Veranstaltung. Männer, vermutlich auch diverse, sogar (erfreulicherweise selten:) Kinder sind unterwegs von Pamplona nach Santiago.

In Regards to #Women’sMarch
Millions upon millions of people are marched, are marching, and will continue marching for their rights. This is not something to be ignored. I, unfortunately, was not able to take time off work to go to the march but I stand in solidarity. This is not just about the president, this goes beyond him and what he means to represent. There are very few left who will tolerate him.
With the election in November, a spark was ignited within this nation that had spread to every corner of the globe. And, unfortunately, this election affects many countries outside of this one. Which is why you have so many people standing up on days like today.
The media will lie, cover only the places where people are being violent and taking advantage of this. But you, my beautiful souls, march on. Because there is a secret I’m about to let you in on: you are powerful. You are a single face in a crowd and you are powerful. Move mountains with your hands and break the mold with your voice. Speak loud and proud gals, guys, and non binary pals.
Do not let history forget this day, the day in which the WORLD has stood up against a racist, misogynistic, terrible leader. You are one in a trillion, fighting against him. Stand up for yourself, for your parents, your children, your neighbors, your friends, your teachers, your EVERYONE. Mostly, but mostly, stand up for YOU. I am proud of each and every one of you <3
And maybe I couldn’t make it out today, but I’m here to say this: I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE and neither are MILLIONS OF OTHERS

#Women’sMarch
Very proud and honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of history yesterday. How amazing is it that we could simultaneously gather around the world to stand up for women’s rights and so so much more?
I’m starting to see aerial photos of the marches, including the one I was in (Austin, TX) and i am so humbled and amazed. When you’re in those crowds you know there’s lots of other people but the scale is lost on you. Thank you to everyone who came out no matter what city you were in, every voice, every body mattered--ESPECIALLY in smaller towns.
I think that demonstrations of love and those of visibility are the most important in fights for social justice, and that’s what the Women’s March(es) truly was.
