here’s my modern au joncon and his foster kids (l/r: aegon, satin, dany, sam, gilly, and gilly’s kid)
In the au joncon adopts Aegon after Rhaegar dies and then starts fostering kids who were victims of abuse or trauma. He and Dany work at a restaurant called Taste of Essos (based off of those ass amalgomated asian restaurants in suburban areas). Satin works at a thrift store and Sam works at a bookstore and helps the old owner around. Aegon just plays Grand Theft Westeros all day (Joncon bought him a copy of Super Marwyn brothers last christmas and hes mad because hes ‘too old for that dad🙊🙊’) (Super Marwyn brothers was made by @tragedy-peanut-gallery) Aegon is nice but kind of addicted to videogames in the gen z sense. Joncon used to live in Essos and joined the golden company (maybe its a band) and i KNOW he wears his pablo honey shirt everywhere. Satin is a bit zesty and is dating Jon(something joncon is a lil pissed abt since he hates jons uncle) he has an ungodly amount of hailey williams posters and wears skinny jeans and does Dany’s nails every weekend in exchange for her doing his hair and spilling the tea. Dany was taken from an abusive household and gave birth to a stillborn kid at 15 (were aging her up chat) and good lawd this girl suffered alot omfg. she loves to hang out with satin and has a little friend group with margaery loras and sansa. Her main gossip source is varys bc i said so. Sam and Gilly are dating and sam helps raise gilly’s kid (yes its her kid not mances) and they are the sit on the same side of the wendys booth pookie bear type couple and give joncon a headache but he loves them. Sam is a little nerd and loves helping kids w homework around the neighborhood. Gilly loves watching mamma mia with joncon and dany and she loves to knit scarves and hats (this girl needs more personality georgie poo) anyway i love my pookies

You mentioned at one point that the CPUSA had 100,000 members. Did they ever become a serious electoral threat to FDR or later?
No. They did try, but they never threatened FDR.
The CPUSA did try to torpedo FDR's electoral chances. After flip-flopping on the New Deal for a while, they settled in support of it as part of a Popular Front strategy. This lasted until 1939, when the Molotov-Ribbentropp Pact. Moscow had directed the CPUSA to not support Polish resistance against Nazism (notably before the Soviets invaded Eastern Poland). After the cash-and-carry system of 1939, Moscow again directed Earl Browder, the general-secretary of the CPUSA, to directly campaign against FDR's foreign policy. But FDR handily won the 1940 election against Wendell Wilkie.
The largest electoral threat the CPUSA posed in the USA was not to FDR but Harry Truman. The Democratic Party was splitting between the pro-integration faction and the Dixiecrats under Strom Thurmond. Left-wing PAC's in the US lined up under the banner of the Progressive Citizens of America, and launched former FDR VP Henry Wallace (fired on 20 September 1946 from the Truman administration due to vocal disagreements with Truman over the Truman Doctrine) as a fourth-party candidate of the newly formed Progressive Party, many of its administrative staff handpicked by William Z. Foster. They hoped to capture the non-Dixiecrat vote and launch their new political party into the White House. While Soviet influence was present to a large degree and foreign policy for the Progressive Party was dominated by conciliatory policies towards the Soviet Union, the disastrous 1946 Midterms and Strom Thurmond also loomed heavily on many left-wing American minds.
However, the 1948 election would not go the way anyone in the Progressive Party suspected. Wallace was openly lavishing praise on the Soviet Union, including complimenting the Dalstroy labor camp. After the Soviets overthrew the Czechoslovak government in a coup, Wallace defended the action and this lost him a lot of popular support. Non-Communist leftists thought Wallace was, at best, a puppet, and either backed Truman or coalesced behind the Socialist Party candidate Norman Thomas. This helped to bolster Truman in the polls, as Republican criticisms of Truman as too soft on the Soviets fell flat against the fact that he fired Wallace primarily for his concilatory policies toward the Soviet Union and support of Soviet human rights abuses and expansionism in Europe. The Progressive Party scored a scant 2.4% of votes in the electorate. A revitalized Truman captured the support of most of the New Deal coalition and roared into life, defeating Thomas Dewey in the 1948 election. Ironically, the threat ended up being an electoral boon to Truman, who was able to shore up one of his primary weaknesses. The 1948 election really was wild stuff.
After that, the CPUSA faced a long slide into irrelevance. While the common refrain is that McCarthyism caused the decline of the CPUSA, in truth it faded in 1948 after American attitudes, never friendly to begin with, began to harden. The outbreak of the Korean War made the decline terminal, and by the time of Nagy's Hungarian Revolution, the party had only about 3,000 members.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Crossover Ships Tournament Contestants
Alright, after putting it off for a bit (due to real life being busy and also I got lazy), I’ve finally gone through and prepared the list of ships for the tournament! Congrats to the lucky 64, and apologies to anyone else whose ship didn’t make it in. I did appreciate every single entry that followed the rules, though, and all the infodumps made me smile!
Before the list, however, I wanna say that this post and the eventual bracket matchup post are going to double as places to post your propaganda via replies and reblogs (or even asks). Going forward, I will use whatever propaganda people add to the posts/send via asks with permission to add as propaganda on the eventual bracket matches. By adding any sort of replies/tags/etc to any further tournament-related posts, you are consenting to having that propaganda added into the tournament. If you are uncomfortable with this, please state it outright on any posts/asks you might send.
Also the rule about fanart for the ships still remains; if you send/provide fanart, please also provide explicit permission from the original artist or proof that you made it yourself. Otherwise, I will not feel comfortable using it in the tournament.

"The activities of A.T. Hill during these years provide an example of how many socialists at the Lakehead reacted to the changing circumstances in Canada. Like many, Hill had re-evaluated his ideological position following the end of the Winnipeg General Strike and during the tumultuous years when the One Big Union (OBU) and Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) had fought for hegemony in the region. By early 1920, he no longer believed that either the syndicalism offered by the IWW or the variation espoused by the OBU would result in the social change he desired. Travelling to Superior, Wisconsin, where he had worked in the past as a harvester and lumber worker, he enrolled in the American Finnish Socialist Federation’s school. There he and fellow future prominent Finnish Canadian Communists fell under the influence of Emeli Parras, editor of Työmies and secretary of a local unit of the American Communist Party. Parras’s courses spurred Hill to join William Z. Foster and Charles Ruthenberg’s United Communist Party. Shortly after, he became one of its many members who flooded the Canadian borderlands speaking to workers about Leninism and the Communist movement. At first, Communist efforts focused on former IWW strongholds and those towns and regions where growing dissatisfaction with the OBU was greatest. Hill began agitating in Fort Frances, Ontario. Gradually, building on his earlier reputation as an organizer throughout the Lakehead area, he became a leading radical throughout the region. Often pitting himself against William Arnberg, a former organizer for the OBU and now a Wobbly agitator, he argued that the Soviet state, as constructed by Lenin and the Bolsheviks, was a necessary precondition for the transformation of capitalism into socialism. Social Democratic Party of Canada (SDPC) activists such as Richard Loughead (also referred to as Lockhead), William Checkley, and Harry Bryan followed Hill in seeing the Communist Party as a way to preserve and develop the radicalism they had developed before 1918.
...
The Worker's Party of Canada [the first name of the Communist Party of Canada] consisted of groups of five to ten members, which, on reaching ten, formed a branch. Two or more branches formed a local that belonged to a subdistrict within a larger geographically designated district. Theoretically, each group possessed an elected “Organizer,” and these in turn formed the “Branch Executive Committee.” This committee elected a “Branch Organizer,” who in turn led the formation of a “Local Executive Committee.” The committee’s representative, a “Local Organizer,” joined with others to form a Sub-District Committee that, along with any “Language Section District Committees,” acted on the District Committee that sent a representative to the Central Executive Committee of the party.
Unfortunately, this structure rarely worked as planned. The highly centralized structure envisaged by Communists came up against the deeply rooted realities of ethnic and regional politics. Adequate organizers were often difficult to find and the more successful ones tended to be moved to those regions deemed most important. Factionalism also emerged almost immediately. Rooted in the differences that had existed among the organizations before the founding convention, it would form a consistent thread through the 1920s and early 1930s, often manifesting itself in the ethnic differences that existed within the new party.
...
The CPC leadership focused on consolidating its position within the Canadian left and establishing party unity. This was no small task, considering the disparate elements brought together under its umbrella. By 1922, most of the Socialist Party of Canada’s membership had joined the new Workers’ Party of Canada. Disillusioned members of the OBU, the SDPC, and the IWW joined from all parts of the country. Very early on, the various ethnically based language organizations that had once been associated with the SDPC and the OBU became the backbone of the WPC. Owing to their strength, language sections with a certain level of autonomy were established to stave off the divisions that had plagued the SPC and the OBU in earlier times. One of the earliest language sections to be formed, and the one with the greatest influence at the Lakehead, was Finnish.
Hill’s election to the nine-person provisional executive in December assured both the legal and illegal parties of affiliation with the FOC. He figured prominently in the formation of the first Finnish Socialist Section of the WPC, was integral to the Finnish Organization of Canada’s [FOC] decision to affiliate directly with the WPC in 1922, and assisted in its reorganization on a club basis. In the months following the formation of the WPC, Hill and other well-known socialists, such as Alf Hautamäki, began making periodic trips to Northwestern Ontario, extolling the virtues of the Comintern and scouting locations for potential branches.
Hautamäki is an intriguing character who, in many respects, is symptomatic of the Finnish socialist experience. Nothing is known of his life before he appeared in Ontario lumber camps in the early 1920s as an organizer for the fledgling Lumber Workers Industrial Union of the One Big Union. Like many Finns, he appears to have migrated from Finland in search of work, but with a strong belief in socialism, particularly the version emanating from revolutionary Russia. Following the OBU split in 1920 and the formation of the CPC in 1921, Hautamäki joined as an organizer. He quickly rose to prominence as a leading member of the FOC and editor of the Toronto-based Finnish Communist newspaper Metsätyöläinen (the Lumber Worker). He became head of the CPC’s powerful lumber workers’ union, and the leading Communist figure at the Lakehead. Within the twin cities and in the surrounding countryside, he was just as well known for his worker-poetry and plays that focused on topics such as lumber camp life, love, strikes, and alcoholism. His plays were frequently performed in Finnish halls from Sudbury to the Manitoba border. Hautamäki’s story ended just as mysteriously as it began. He disappeared from the record in the mid-1930s, like so many migrant Finnish workers during the period. In keeping with his personality, the meetings that Hautamäki organized with Finnish socialists at the Lakehead in the early 1920s were open and frank. They included members from the Finnish Support Circle of the OBU, with which many of the Communists had joint memberships. In February 1921, through a morphing of the Finnish Support Circle and the Finnish Association, a branch of the FOC was formally re-established and immediately affiliated with the WPC. Although the FOC would join “in its entirety as the Workers’ Party Finnish Section in February 1922,” many Finns preferred in 1921 to affiliate only with the Trade Union Educational League, a “non-partisan trade union auxiliary, interested only in the ‘renovation’ of a declining trade union movement.” The Ukrainian Labour-Farmer Temple Association (ULFTA) also eventually affiliated with the WPC, and constituted the second largest ethnic section, after the Finns. Formed in late 1917 by Matthew Popovich and other Ukrainian socialists as the Ukrainian Social Democratic Party, by 1919 the Winnipeg-based organization had established a number of branches in Northern Ontario and western Canada. Its strength remained, however, in the Rocky Mountain mining region and in the cities of Winnipeg and Edmonton. The spread of the ULFTA had been hampered during the final years of the First World War when the Canadian government declared it an “illegal Bolshevik Organization.” When it re-emerged in the early 1920s, it did so slowly and cautiously, often choosing to infiltrate existing organizations. Such was the case at the Lakehead. During the late 1910s and early 1920s, Ukrainian socialists chose to work through the Winnipeg-based Workers’ Benevolent Association (WBA). Just months after the establishment of the WBA in Winnipeg, a branch appeared in West Fort William. A second branch followed in April 1923 and a third, in Port Arthur, by April 1926. As indicated by Popovich’s role as its president, a connection between the WBA and the ULFTA existed from the start. Not surprisingly, shortly after the ULFTA’s affiliation with the WPC, the WPC used the WBA as a beachhead within the Ukrainian community. Ukrainians associated with the ULFTA at the Lakehead would reflect the national composition of the CPC and form the second-largest regional group, after the Finns."

HOW THE IMF KEEPS AFRICANS POOR
Financial rights activist Alex Gladstein dissects the IMF’s African operations in this video. Drawing on the case of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), he reveals a pattern of the IMF appointing its own officials to oversee African treasuries, fostering export-led economies, devaluing local currencies and striking deals with dictators.
This is the same playbook allegedly at work in Kenya. Protesters accuse the government of destroying the country’s future by selling out to the IMF’s neocolonialist agenda. Kenya’s tech-savvy and well-educated Gen Z is leading the charge against financial imperialism - coming out en masse repeatedly to denounce proposed tax hikes that the IMF is urging President William Ruto to adopt.
Their resistance to the so-called Finance Bill - basically, the country’s draft 2024 budget - has seen it already watered down in parliament. Now, the protests have evolved into a call for the US-leaning Ruto to drastically change direction and curb wasteful spending by the government.
Regardless of political, social, and religious differences, Kenyan citizens have united in rejecting the treasury’s budget. They point the finger at the IMF for the significant tax hikes. The international lender has injected a substantial $3.5 billion in loans into the East African nation, but these funds come with strings attached. Some US Congress members were even in Kenya’s parliament, monitoring progress on the Finance Bill.
Could the determined efforts of Kenya’s Gen Z mark the beginning of the end of their country’s economic exploitation?

Unstorying the Organizer
To be honest although I have a rough idea about what this paper project will be, the core argument is still very hard to articulate. The general sense that there’s a lingering attachment to the modern Subject and the storying of it in social movement space is interesting, but how does it manifest in the cases I am looking at? Yesterday I revisited an episode of the Laborwave Radio entitled “How to Revive the Labor Movement”. In there the host, Alex Riccio, mentions his article on Organizing Work that critiques the popular idea of “militant minority” , particularly the one articulated by William Z Foster, within contemporary US labor movement and how it limits mass mobilization. In the similar vain of Jane McAlevey’s idea of “deep organizing”, he holds that unionism is ultimately about organizing a militant majority. While McAlevey’s work focuses more on a critique of professionalism and minority union leadership style that equates unionism with rights advocacy, Riccio looks at the “radical” side of the minoritarian spectrum. It seems like the main critique here is well summarized in the following:
“The primary problem with the militant minority tendency is it misunderstands the central premise of unionism, which is that in order to win meaningful gains as the working-class it’s necessary to organize a militant majority. Unionism, in this way, requires one to adopt an attitude that believes in both the capacity of any ordinary worker and their ability to change over time.”
So a couple things are worth highlighting here. First, the militant minority view themselves as the intellectual vanguard, with superior analysis and strategies over the mass. Second, they don’t believe in mass capacity to grow and develop, thereby advocating for bypassing the mass to win through some sort of party politics at the top. Thirdly, they don’t think mass power is necessary for the cause, not to mention an end in itself in this liberation work. What worries me is that without concrete description of what this points to, his critique lumps together different models of organizing: militant rank-and-file organizing, liberal labor advocacy, community reformist organizing, opportunist communist caucus, and populist business unionism, etc.. The “militant minority” under critique here is a weird and contradictory combination of characteristics of the others, but the differences and similarities here are important enough that I think are worth exploring. To begin with, it is a cliche to critique business unionism in the US at this point. The problems of political defeatism, concessions, and neutralization of class antagonism need not be further elaborated. More often than not, critics of this post-depression cooption amidst rapid unionization focus on this method’s intentionality: perpetuating and stabilizing imperialist-capitalist system instead of waging class wars against the ruling elites. What’s simultaneously addressed is the way business unionists organize their shops, until the recent decades. With increasing attention paid to the corruption, bureaucratization, centralization, and hierarchization of labor unions, particularly as organizers collectively reflected upon the industrial union defeats in the late 20th century till today in the US, there is a general call for union democracy in today’s labor unionist discussions.
So two things are at stake here, organizing method on the one hand, and organizing objective on the other. Various competing alternatives are organized around a matrix of these two axises roughly listed in the chart below. A lot of participants in these strategy discussions imagined themselves to be in a space of agency and narrative self, one that allows them to live and enact stories they tell through these debates. What troubles me is more often than not, the arbitrary boundaries between the stories they setup are not helpful in thinking about the differences in organizing styles. And “radical” “deep organizers” often too readily and easily fall into the other categories without acknowledging it themselves.
My goal here is not to argue that one is better than the others, but to observe the common storytelling habitus shared among all these organizing philosophies and practices. That is, they all inhabit a certain persistence of the modern Subject, one that despite its vulnerabilities, hope for and insists on its autonomy. Instead of going down the rabbit hole of the structure versus agency debate, which thousands have exhausted, I want to think along with da Silva about how the condition of possibility for discourses on agency overdetermines the discourses themselves. The problem lies in the organizer identity, whose volitionalism and beliefs in meritocracy create a specific and ungeneralizable sample of individuals. Essentially, it seems to me that the performances of debate in these differentiation of strategies exceed the cognitive dimension and cannot do without a careful look at the affective undertone. These stories all aspire to create certain versions of the human that fits within the labor movement. And behind the stories there is the common message, “My story is better than yours because it leads to wins, it’s more ethical, and/or it centers and enacts justice.”

Celestial Chemistry: Exploring the Optimal Horoscope Combinations for Love Marriages
Introduction
Love, the universal force that transcends boundaries, has been a topic of fascination for centuries. In the realm of astrology, the alignment of celestial bodies is believed to influence various aspects of our lives, including love and relationships. While astrology doesn't dictate our choices, it can offer insights into compatibility and dynamics between individuals. In this blog, we'll delve into the astrological factors that constitute the best combinations for love marriages, providing a nuanced perspective on the role of the cosmos in matters of the heart.

Understanding Love Marriages in Astrology
Love marriages, where individuals choose their partners based on mutual affection and compatibility, have become increasingly common in modern society. In astrology, the dynamics of love marriages are explored through the study of the planets, signs, houses, and aspects that influence the romantic connection between two people.
Harmonious Sun and Moon Signs
The Sun sign represents one's core identity and ego, while the Moon sign signifies emotions and instincts. Harmonious Sun-Moon combinations, such as Sun signs that are compatible with the Moon signs of potential partners, indicate emotional understanding and mutual respect. This harmony lays a strong foundation for love marriages.
Venus: The Planet of Love
Venus, often called the planet of love and beauty, plays a pivotal role in romantic relationships. When Venus is well-placed in the birth chart and forms positive aspects (conjunction, sextile, trine) with another person's Venus or personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mars), there's a natural attraction and alignment of values, fostering a deep emotional connection.
Mars and Passion
Mars, the planet of energy and desire, influences our approach to passion and sexuality. When Mars aspects are in harmony between two individuals, there's a balance between assertiveness and receptivity, creating an exciting and harmonious romantic connection.
Mercury: Communication and Understanding
Effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful relationship. Mercury, the planet of communication and intellect, influences how well two people understand and communicate with each other. Positive Mercury aspects facilitate open dialogue and mental compatibility, contributing to the success of love marriages.

Shared Interests and Aspirations
When the Sun, Moon, Venus, or personal planets of one individual fall into the same astrological sign or house of another person's birth chart, it suggests shared interests, values, and life goals. These shared aspects contribute to a sense of unity and understanding, fostering the growth of a deep and lasting bond.
The Composite Chart
The composite chart, created by combining the birth charts of two individuals, provides insights into the dynamics of the relationship itself. Planetary placements, aspects, and house positions in the composite chart offer a unique perspective on the strengths and challenges of the relationship, giving a holistic view of the potential for a love marriage.
Case Studies: Famous Love Matches
Exploring the astrological charts of famous couples who have had successful love marriages can provide valuable insights. For instance, the compatibility between Beyoncé and Jay-Z is characterized by harmonious Venus and Mars aspects, indicating a strong romantic and sexual connection. Similarly, Prince William and Kate Middleton's composite chart shows compatibility between their Sun and Moon placements, indicating mutual emotional understanding.
Cultivating Love Beyond Astrology
While astrology can offer valuable insights into love marriages, it's important to remember that compatibility is multifaceted. Factors like mutual respect, effective communication, shared values, and personal growth are essential for a successful relationship. Astrology serves as a tool for self-awareness and understanding, helping couples navigate challenges and celebrate their unique bond.
Conclusion
Astrology, with its rich tapestry of planets, signs, and houses, provides a captivating lens through which we can explore the dynamics of love marriages. While it doesn't determine our choices or guarantee the success of a relationship, astrology offers valuable insights into compatibility and the potential for a deep and meaningful connection. By examining harmonious Sun-Moon combinations, Venus and Mars aspects, shared interests, and the composite chart, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the celestial influences at play in matters of the heart. Remember that love is a journey that requires effort, understanding, and mutual respect—qualities that extend beyond the stars and into the depths of the human experience.
