September 11th 1297 saw the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
If you follow my history posts through the years you will know I try to change them around, rather post the same old thing every year, in this post I will concentrate a wee bit more on the man usually forgotten, Andrew de Moray and his struggle in the North.
Andrew de Moray had been captured after fighting for King John at the Battle of Dunbar but had escaped only to find his family’s lands in Avoch on the Black Isle under English control.
There can be no doubt that de Moray got his patriotism and fighting zeal from his father, also called Andrew de Moray, and also captured at Dunbar he was incarcerated in the Tower of London, where he died in 1298.
The young de Moray was imprisoned in Chester and promptly escaped and made his way back to the highlands and the family seat, Avoch Castle near Inverness.
He is sometimes portrayed as Wallace’s lieutenant but Moray was entirely his own man and a very capable leader in his own righ
The English having travelled as far as Elgin at one stage, were beaten back by de Moray and his rag-tag bunch of local freedom fighters. The northern troops’ activities mirrored much of what was going on in the south, with guerrilla tactics widely used to unsettle Edward’s army and score small but psychologically significant victories. So for every small victory against the English in the South for Wallace, Moray matched it in the Highlands.
The uprising gathered pace and it was in the early months of 1297 that Wallace and de Moray were said to have met, although historical documents of the period are imprecise. The meeting apparently took place in Perth, where both armies met to expel the English occupiers and create a base for an attack to liberate Dundee.
Wallace, at this stage, is said to have returned south with his army and the preparations for the battle at Stirling began. De Moray, held in high regard by Wallace and, according to some, the senior partner of the two, is credited with creating the tactical plan that won the day for the Scots.
Unfortunately Andrew was fatally injured at Stirling, when a stray arrow is said to have pierced him and, after a month or so it finally took his life. The Scots would go on to some heavy defeats in the future and, it is argued, were unable to function as well without the tactics de Moray brought to what was, in effect, a peasants’ revolt.
De Moray’s son, also called Andrew, followed in the family tradition and rallied behind Robert the Bruce, even marrying his sister, Christina, at one stage.
Both Wallace an Moray were conferred with the title of ‘leader of the army of the realm of Scotland’ and both received Knighthoods at roughly the same time – suggesting that, during the period they were held in equal regard.
Both men co-signed a letter to the mayors of Lubeck and Hamburg asking for trade routes with Scotland to be re-opened with, interestingly, de Moray’s name above that of his more celebrated colleague.
Where Wallace has, like so many other Scots historical figures, been romanticised; his story pulled to the boundaries of what is actually true in print, poem, song and more recently Hollywood, it is no surprise that de Moray, who shamefully, failed to get a single mention in the Mel Gibson film, I won’t go into all the historical inaccuracies in Braveheart, but the main two in the winning battle sequence at Stirling were blatantly obvious, they failed to include a bridge in the battle scenes and also put a schiltron scene at the battle of Stirling when it should have been at the Falkirk Battle.

Shadow of a Shield- Rewrite Poll V2
Less wordy. Feel free to reblog and/or vote on the original poll as well.
Bottom line, I've made more OCs since the original creating of SoaS. Plan is to either make the rewrite one big fic OR like TNEI and make several fics happening in the same timeline revolving around each of the OCs (listed below the poll).
Benefits of either: (Option 1) big fic all together / (Option 2) separate fics but opportunities for more Avengers PoVs
(Tbh, I'm personally leaning toward the second option, but I might be able to do both if need be. It's a different balance, at the very least.)
Now these are my OCs for the story (in order of creation, not age):
Jamie Carter-Rogers - omega; daughter of Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers; kept in captivity similar to how Bucky had been; autistic and adhder; love interest is another OC named Ana/Anastasia (Latina-american)
Willam Wallace - alpha; supposed son (trans) of Bucky Barnes and Natasha Romanoff (unsure because Mariya Ivanov often lies); dyslexic and adhder; tentative love interests are either Peter Parker/Harley Keener (together) or an OC; has a twin, Mare
Becca Barnes - omega (late bloomer); daughter of Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers; autistic with OCD tendencies; love interest is her fiance who is also an OC
*Mare ? - omega; twin sister of Will; selective mutism; seperated from the others, so she isn't with them during the 5-year Blip; eventual planned QPR with MJ
(All of them have C-PTSD, that's just a given)

I like to think that if the Seven Maidens died, they’d become honorary members of the Goldenrod. Sure they’d almost definitely end up in heaven, but they’d get a day trip to the nine hell’s every once in a while. Just to torture Kalvaxus. As a treat.

Julia Wallace
May 15, 2021
Julia Wallace (maiden name Dennis) was born in on April 28, 1861 and married a man named William Herbert Wallace in March 1914. William was born in Millom, Cumberland on August 29, 1878.
Julia and her new husband moved to Liverpool, England in 1915 where William obtained a job as a collections agent with the Prudential Assurance Company. The couple settled into a district known as Anfield. Willam also lectured chemistry classes part time at Liverpool Technical College during the 1920′s.
On Monday, January 19th, 1931 Willam was attending a meeting at the Liverpool Central Chess Club. While he was there he was given a message which had been received by telephone 25 minutes before he had gotten there. William was supposed to call a number at an address of 25 Menlove Gardens East, Liverpool at 7:30 pm the next evening to discuss insurance with a man who went by the name of “R.M. Qualtrough.”
The following night William went to the address at 7:30 pm only to discover that there was no Menlove Gardens East, there were only North, South and West. William asked around, even asking a police officer for directions by no one was able to help him.
William searched for this mysterious address for about 45 minutes before giving up and returning home. The next door neighbours, a couple named the Johnstons were going out that evening and had seen William standing in the alley complaining that he had been locked out of his house and could not get into the front or back door. The Johnstons watched William try the back door one more time to which was opened now. Inside the house, William found his wife Julia beaten to death in the sitting room.
William made two voluntary statements in the coming weeks but was never intensively questioned by the police. He was asked to attend CID headquarters every day and had to answer specific questions like if the Wallaces had a maid and whether he had stopped to talk to anyone on his way back from trying to locate 25 Menlove Gardens East.
The police discovered that the phone call to the chess club requesting these specific instructions for William was made from a telephone box 400 yards from the Wallace’s house. The person who had taken this phone call was quite certain that the person who called wasn’t William Wallace himself.
However, that didn’t stop the police from suspecting William and then eventually arrested him for the murder of his wife, Julia.
William had used the tram to travel to the fake address and police thought it was possible that William had had enough time to murder his life and arrive at the spot where he boarded the tram. They attempted to recreate this timeline to see if it was possible by having a young detective go through a “fake murder” and sprint all the way to the tram stop. It is suspected that a man of William’s age would not have been able to accomplish this as he was an ailing 52 years old.
The police originally suspected that the murder took place at 8 pm on the night of January 20th, 1931, however this was later changed to just after 6:30 pm though no one knows why this was changed as there was no known new evidence to suggest the murder took place at this time.
Forensic examination of the crime scene led them to suspect that whoever had murdered Julia Wallace likely had gotten her blood all over them, given how brutal the nature of the crime was. They found no blood on the suit William was wearing on the night of the murder.
The police found a mackintosh found under Julia that they believed a naked William used to shield himself from getting any blood on him during the attack. They also examined the bath and drains in the house, which had not been used recently and there was no trace of blood in the house except from a single small clot in the toilet.
The evidence was circumstantial and a milk boy and paper girl both gave a statement that they had spoken to Julia on the evening of her death after William had left to find this mysterious address. Both of their testimonies were considered unreliable.
Despite all of this, William Wallace was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Many said that William was very calm during and after the discovery of his murdered wife and the police did not think his behaviour was typical for someone who had just lost their spouse.
The conviction was later overturned but William died of health problems two years later on February 26, 1933. Nobody named Qualtrough was ever connected to the case, and no one knows who the mysterious caller at the chess club was instructing William to go to a non-existent address.

Shadow of a Shield- Rewrite Poll
(Feel free to reblog if you want, no pressure)
Starting SoaS, it was just going to be Jamie and her love interest(s) as my only OCs. It evolved a lot and quickly as time went on. For example, she got a brother, then a sister, and her poly love triangle went to a love duo instead (I was having trouble balancing things and it ended up making more sense not to have a poly triangle for her).
~Characters listed under the poll~
The question is this: Should I make one mass story like I was starting to do with the original SoaS fic, but rewrite it to include everyone OR do what I'm doing with TNEI fics and have seperate fics with each as the main character of their own story (events happening somewhat simultaniously in each fic)?
Benefits of either: (Option 1) big fic and all together / (Option 2) separate fics but more opportunities to add in more Avengers PoVs
(To be honest, I'm leaning toward the second option, but depending on how things go, I might be able to do both?
