So yes we went to see the musical extravaganza Wicked this week. I can say I wasn't overly excited or anything to see this being I never seen the play/stage show and was never really interested in it either, but being I do like the Wizard of Oz and have seen the other related movies over the years I was interested in going to see this.
As for collectables there apparently was stuff cups and buckets they were advertising them but didn't have any on display so when I asked about them at the counter I was told they were all sold out which was sad but what can you do right?
anyway as for the movie I thought it was pretty good. I did enjoy it. It was fun and plenty of singing and there was some cool action and visuals. Basically the story was and origin story. It start off at the end of the Wizard of Oz when the wicket witch is dead and you see Dorthy and her friends walking back down the Yellow Brick Road back to the Emerald City and the movie really starts when you get back to Munchkinland and Glenda (played by Ariana Grande) shows up and confirms the witches death and they have a musical number. then Glenda tells the story about how Elphaba/the Wicket Witch (played by Cynthia Erivo) becomes Wicked. you get to see her as a child and then a teenager/adult and how her and Glenda meet at a Hogwarts type of school for Witchcraft and Wizardry and everything that pretty much goes on from them that is pretty much it.
While watching around the first when the munchkins were having their celebration I was thinking "boy alot of these munchkins are awfully tall" and when they wheeled out the straw effigy of the witch I was like boy that was quick! like seriously did they have that pre built and stored in like a barn somewhere just in case the Witch was killed at some point? I also thought the name of the school was "Shitz" at first cause that is what I was hearing I had to lean over and ask one of the people I was with what the school was called and they were like "I think its Shiz?" so I had to look it up when I got home and it was "Shiz" which in my opinion isn't any better but I could swear I was hearing "Shitz" lol
but all joking aside while watching this it reminded me of the movie Maleficent that came out a few years ago. In my opinion it was pretty much the same idea. I'm not discounting this movie because of that being that this was pretty good I felt it was well acted and all the songs were I thought were really good and the choreography was really great too.
The visuals effects and alot of the character animations were really done as well I think this will probably get some Oscar Nomination for production designs and maybe even Make-up and costumes.
But yeah like I said I thought it was pretty good and being this is a "Part 1" we'll have to go and see Part 2 when it comes out so So if you are interested in seeing it I would recommend going to see it.

the fact that fiyero putting a flower in glinda’s hair is very obviously a flirty move by him which then gets paralleled not only by glinda putting a flower in elphie’s hair but also by glinda herself wearing green flower hair clips on their day in emerald city

Me, before seeing Wicked: I can't believe they spilt it into two parts! I don't want to wait! We're theater kids, give us an intermission and we'll be fine!
Me, watching wicked and hearing bits of "for good" throughout: nope this is fine I can wait I lm not ready for that to shatter my heart just yet.

Glinda crying and writing a letter to Fiyero from the Emerald City telling him everything that happened. Him riding on his horse to go see her (because hes the only person she trusts when it comes to Elphie)so they both can cry over Elphaba. Like in pajamas and eating unhealthy food and not moving from the coach level crying and depression. They both want their green witch back. Elphaba out deep in the west feels a great pit of sadness our of nowhere and has a good long cry and holds her black hat and the poppy flower close to her heart.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone talk about how Elphaba and Galinda parallel The Wizard and Morrible, but each pair has a “powerful/magic” person (Elphaba and Morrible) and a “popular/socially beloved” person (Galinda and the Wizard).
The Wizard and Morrible are more successful in the short term, because they work together while Galinda and Elphaba are (to the public) enemies. The tragedy is that Galinda and Elphaba are wayyyy better at what they do than the Wizard and Morrible.
Elphaba is easily at least 10x more powerful than Morrible. All Morrible can do is the weather and she admits she can barely read the Grimmeire, whereas Elphaba read it immediately and her powers are so strong no only does she not have to try that hard, but sometimes it just seems to happen on it’s own. The only things Morrible ever had on Elphaba were her years of experience and willingness to overstep moral boundaries (killing Nessarose among other things), which backfired in the end.
As for Galinda and The Wizard, I point out in another post that Galinda is more powerful in her popularity than the Wizard. The people know and love her, whereas the Wizard needs to make himself an enigma for fear of being exposed a fraud. Galinda isn’t exactly the most powerful either, but she doesn’t cover it by hiding alone in a room and making people believe lies about her; she shows up, she smiles, she makes bubbles, shakes hands, kisses babies, the Wizard leaves Oz forever and no one cares because they have 🫧💖Galinda🫧💖.

See you November 21st, 2025
due to certain things coming to my attention I should clarify: what I mean by "crying ableism over Nessa's death" is people forgetting Wicked is based on Wizard of Oz and therefore Nessa (re: the Wicked Witch of the West's sister) is inherently doomed by the narrative (to have a house fall on her) and thus her death was not a decision "to kill off the canonically disabled character" made for the movie
What I don't mean is to diminish the voices of fans who take issue with the way the Wicked Witch of the East scene is handled in the show. Whilst I don't personally see it as harmful, I am not a part of the disabled community; so it's not really my place to say whether it's right or wrong. Depending on how they handle Nessa walking (I don't know whether or not Marissa is ambulatory) genuine discussions of disability representation and ableism might be brought to light; but that isn't a speculation I wanted to include in what is meant to be a light-hearted meme. That is a conversation that should be taken seriously if it does come up in regards to part two, and is not what I intended that bingo square to refer to.
All that being said, was it a questionable choice for Greg to make Nessa disabled when he wrote the book? Well... that's a convo for a different day.

I just had a thought. I saw Wicked the other day and, aside from concluding it was one of the best movies I have ever seen and how all movie musicals should be made, it made me think on certain things and choices in the movie.
While this is a minor one, I thought it was very interesting. During the Ozdust Ballroom scene, Elphaba starts dancing by herself and past the tears in my eyes I’ve noticed something. A large part of her dance involves hand movements and twisting her body.
Do you think she developed this style of dance in order to be able to include Nessarose in dancing when they were younger?
With her being in a wheelchair she’d obviously have limited movement or involvement in any dance that has a lot of footwork, and while that is a part of her dance, it still relies or begins with an emphasis on hand movements that would be easy for someone in a wheelchair to emulate too (I think, I could be wrong).
What do y’all think? I think it’s a potentially really cool and interesting idea that only deepens the amount of care and love Elphaba has for her sister, and how much she sides with her in refusing to let her be seen as lesser or more needing of help just because she’s in a wheelchair
