Eventually Taylor broke as she turned to them, "We-we can't just... sit here and wait! And not know if he's going to be okay! I can't... I-" her eyes found Ashyln's, "Please, he... none of us have ever gotten that injured and- we... what if he's still alive?"

Tears were streaming down Taylor's face as Ashlyn watched her, "Ashlyn, please. I can't lose him," her voice broke halfway through.

Silently Ashlyn walked over and wrapped her arms around Taylor, she didn't trust her own voice not to break. Slowly the others moved closer and also wrapped Taylor up.

"We can't just sit here and wait." I turned to my companion as they looked at the locked door in front of us. "I doubt they would even notice we're gone."

"... But we can't just..." They sighed, looking at me with skepticism. "... You're still exploring the facility with or without me, aren't you?"

"Who knows? But it's better than, you know. Waiting for someone who might not even come." I held out my hand as we headed deeper in the corridors.

It was... normal, to say the least. What you'd expect from a place like it. Sanitized walls, maintained lights, uncrackled tiles.

Normally, that would've been a good thing... if it wasn't the fact this place was supposedly abandoned a decade ago.

I held their hand tightly as we made our way to the main receptionist area, sighing in relief as there is a secondary exit out of this place. "... Good news. We can get out. Bad news? Elevator."

They sucked in a breath while we made our way towards it. Their grip on my hand tightened ever so slightly, as if to tell me it'll be okay.

I closed my eyes when the elevator doors shut, humming the elevator's music to distract myself.

... Maybe we should have waited for rescue.

"... That's not normal at all."

"You think?" I huffed, leaning on the opened doors to get my bearings, ignoring all the cleaned bones covered by the grassy fiekd.

"... How many people died here?"

"I don't know, and I don't intend to find out. Let's go back down. I don't like this place."

They were looking at their phone, their face pale. "... We should be outside, right?"

"Yes. We should."

FAQ and Rules

What sort of content can I create for this event?

You can create whatever you want (fic, art, edits, etc). Any fandom is allowed, as well as OC stuff. NSFW is allowed, but please tag your content accordingly! The only thing not allowed is AI-generated content.

Do I need to make 31 things to participate?

Oh heavens no! You can make as much or as little content as you like, skip days when desired, or combine prompts (so for example, write something that covers a prompt from day 1, 2, AND 3). You don't have to do the days in order either, go wild! To be considered a 'completionist', you only have to make sure that at the end of the month, you've covered 31 prompts from 31 different days, but whether you do that in 31 works or just 1 is up to you.

What are these alts about?

If none of the three prompts of a particular day are your cup of tea, you can swap them out for an alt prompt of your choice.

What are these themes about?

Just a little bit of extra fun for the mods. Like last year, we'll be handing out various badges for people participating in the event. A full list will be posted later (and linked here once that happens), but perhaps there will be a special badge or two for people who can't be completionists but who do manage to finish every single day of a specific theme ;)

How do I tag and is there an AO3 collection?

AuguSnippets is an event that encourages the short and sweet of the whump genre. Ideally, your drabbles would be under 500 or even under 100 words, maybe even just a dialogue prompt. This, however, does not mean I won't reblog longer prompt fills! Don't stress too much on that limit. I just think it's sometimes nice to challenge yourself to write shorter drabbles, and it can also work as a very good exercise to write daily or semi-daily, and it doesn't need a lot of prep.

As for tagging your work, please use the appropriate trigger warnings. This is so everyone can stay safe and avoid potentially triggering topics while participating. Also, if your work is nsfw, please don't forget to tag it as mature content! If your work is not tagged properly, I won't be able to reblog it! Thank you!

October is a stacked month in the fic writing communities, and I will always encourage more participation.

If you want to officially participate, the prompt lists are in the tags, but you can participate without doing the actual challenge. You don't have to write every day, you don't have to follow the prompts...

I'm sort of the champion of whump fic in this fandom (despite not having published any yet, I've been working on this project for months, and actively encourage others to create whump fic.) It might not seem like your thing because you also might notice that Whumptober usually contains abuse or torture themes, but that's not necessary either. There is also whumperless/environmental whump, where it's their situation that gets them sick or injured, and not another person. This is the kind I prefer writing. For me, it's all about the caretaker phase of it all. Break a few legs. Bruise a few hands. It's lowkey kinda fun.

I'm unofficially participating in Whumptober (in that I started writing before prompts even existed and there's no way I'm submitting all 31 days, I only have 15 chapters so far.)

My fic is currently measuring at 36,230 words, and 80 pages in the document.

Oops, I think I'm enjoying hurting the faves a little too much. :P

That being said, while I definitely want y'all to join me for Whumptober, there are plenty of events to choose from. Feel free to participate in any of them.
