Edmonton, AB (No. 9)
The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, formerly and commonly known as the Hotel Macdonald (colloquially known as The Mac), is a large historic luxury hotel in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Located along 100 Street NW, south of Jasper Avenue, the hotel is situated in the eastern end of downtown Edmonton, and overlooks the North Saskatchewan River. The 47.7-metre-high (156 ft) hotel building was designed by Ross and MacFarlene and contains eleven floors. The hotel is named for the first prime minister of Canada, Sir John A. Macdonald.
The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company opened the hotel on 5 July 1915. Built as an early-20th century railway hotel, the Châteauesque-styled building is considered one of Canada's grand railway hotels. Following Grand Trunk's 1919 bankruptcy, Canadian National Hotels assumed management of the hotel. The building has undergone several renovations since its opening, and an expansion wing to the hotel building was added in 1953. In 1983, Canadian National Hotels ceased operations, and demolished the building's expansion wing in the same year. The hotel property was later sold to Canadian Pacific Hotels in 1988, and was restored and reopened to the public in May 1991. The hotel is currently managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
Hotel Macdonald is at 10065 100 Street NW at the eastern end of downtown Edmonton. The hotel property is bounded by 100 Street NW to the north and west, with ATB Place west of the hotel. Grierson Hill NW bounds the hotel property to the east and south, with the roadway sitting adjacent to the North Saskatchewan River valley park system. The building overlooks the escarpment of the North Saskatchewan River.
Located at the eastern end of downtown Edmonton, south of Jasper Avenue, the hotel is situated near Edmonton's central business district, and several other neighbourhoods; including Riverdale to the east, and Rossdale to the south.

Just a few of the things happening in the garden. Names that I know: Dahlia Milena Fleur, Begonia Mistral, Cosmos Apricot Lemonade, Cosmos Rose Bonbon, Lantana Rose Sunrise and Osteospermum Bright Lights Purple, a Coleus whose name I’ve misplaced with a polka dot plant, Zinnia Isabellina, Lobelia Starship Blue with a white cosmos, heliopsis and hosta in the background, and a white cypress vine.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* 🍎EPEL BIRTHDAY SSR FLOWER ANALYSIS* 🍎*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
*Mandatory reminder that I’m no flower specialist, which means these are all very subjective opinions. Take everything with a grain of salt!
Just like Vil, Epel has a plethora of roses, this time white, pink, and purple ones.  White roses stand for innocence and appreciation, as well as youthfulness, purity, and loyalty. They’re used to represent new beginnings and love. Pink roses symbolize gratitude and admiration and make a perfect present to friends and siblings. They’re symbols of elegance, refinement, and sweetness. Other readings of pink roses include that of recognition and appreciation, as well as grace, joy, gratitude, elegance, and sweetness. Lastly, purple roses are the rarest roses to find. They stand for enchantment and carry an air of regality, which gives them a very majestic flair. They’re typically gifted to show the recipient that you think very highly of them, that they’ve caught your attention, or that you find them inspiring.
The tiny white flowers in his bouquet are glysophila or baby’s breath, which symbolize purity, innocence, light, goodness, beginnings, possibility, protection, and understanding. They’re commonly paired with (red) roses since they represent innocence and everlasting love.
Rather than lavenendar which stands for purity, silence, devotion, serenity, grace, and calmness, I think Epel has anise hyssops, which are not commonly given in bouquets, but they represent dedicated sacrifice and the purity of the actions of the recipient. In the language of flowers hyssops act as a charm against evil forces and negative energies and thus carry a meaning of protection and magical enchantment. Additionally, purple hyssops specifically also indicate humility and being down to earth.
Sweet rocket is known for its loveliness and deceitfulness. It has no fragrance of its own during the day, but at night it exhumes a lovely smell, which is why it’s associated deception and pretense – having earned itself the name flower of deceit.
Anemones mostly symbolize anticipation and excitement, but due to their wild nature they're also a reminder to enjoy the moment and to take in opportunities at the right time. They’re protectors against evil and ill wishes, but can also represent a forsaken or forgotten love/affection, or act as a bad omen.
Purple buttercups stand for joy, youth, purity, happiness and friendship, though the color purple carries a meaning of success, grace, and royalty.
The native violet symbolizes innocence, faithfulness, honesty, protection, determination, and the idea of setting goals. It’s often associated with growth, expansion, and peace, and thus a symbol of mental clarity.
Osteospermum, or the African daisy, represents innocence, purity, and loyal love, though it can also mean faith, awareness, inspiration, and passion.
Finally, purple pansies are most commonly known as a symbol of love, but beyond that they symbolize loving thoughts, freedom of thoughts, consideration, and love in idleness.
Naturally, these are only my un-educated guesses, but feel free to let me know if I got anything wrong/what flowers I might’ve missed. As always, I’ll also update my final guesses/thoughts and switch out the low-res pic once I get my hands on a better quality one.

5/12/22-Lakeside and home
A dashing Kingfisher zipped across the lake like a jewel being skimmed across the water, Carrion Crow and Magpie pecked and picked and a Robin came to greet me as I watched the familiar Great Crested Grebe on a different lake - Kornwestheim lake rather than where it usually is on Concorde lake - on my lunch time walk at Lakeside. A Buzzard heard too and Moorhens seen in the grass between the lakes also stood out. I took the ninth picture in this photoset of the Robin another intimate view of one in a few days I’m seeing and photographing them loads. Having taken photos of one with my big lens for my DSLR on Friday I got today’s with my regular lens, there was a time earlier in the year I took photos with each lens of them on a Friday and following Monday. I got a bridge camera photo of one on Saturday in the garden to mean I’m certainly using different kit on them of late. I used my bridge camera on my lunch time walk today to take the eighth picture in this photoset of the Great Crested Grebe. At home I enjoyed views of Starlings throughout the day in the back garden where I took the first picture in this photoset of one in the buddleia bush and gathering on the roof visible from my room, with Jackdaw, Magpie and Woodpigeon for a bit seen well on roofs out the back today. Goldfinches brought their exuberant colour to another overcast day on the balcony feeders too.
At Lakeside and from home there really was a lingering mood in the landscape of winter’s bleakness which I’ve enjoyed taking in the past few days, with the cooler temperatures to match. There is still nice multi colour in the trees of autumn at Lakeside and I enjoyed this today, especially yellow scenes shining out in wooded areas and it feels as though a lot of the stubborn trees staying green have succumbed to colour. It’s interesting seeing a layer of the landscape peel back into bareness as the leaves fall; with the lakes really visible from the northern path and in the woods again and the evergreen trees I believe cedars the distinctive ones south of the steam railway station like the pines standout and can be seen from bits of Lakeside where they’d be obscured in spring and summer months I even saw into the Concorde club grounds beside the woods from the field by the woods. I took the fourth, fifth and sixth pictures in this photoset of views on my lunch time walk, third of the ripe yellow leaves out the front with some on the nice round trees and a lot on the ground and second picture in this photoset of the sky out the back this morning when the cloud broke then and towards evening there were some beautiful sky vistas today.
Aside from the yarrow at the flower bed area, daisy on the green out the front and I believe fleabane seed heads at Lakeside again my flower highlight of my Lakeside walk was the stunning carrot by beach lake which I took the seventh picture in this photoset of. That’s something quite interesting about these flowers hanging on that it connects the different times of year, I could not help but look back on ideal summer days seeing insects of high summer like Common Red Soldier beetle on these flowers. On this moody day it couldn’t be further from those summer memories, but it was a nice reminder all the same. A great flower moment. I liked seeing the rose hips out the front and a nice round one on the bush out the back, lavender, firethorn, camellia, steeplebush, chrysanthemum, osteospermum, sweet William and nice white flowers in a hanging basket at home today. A mushroom growing from a wooden beam beside the steam railway which the tenth picture in this photoset shows was interesting to see.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: Two of my favourite birds the Great Crested Grebe and Kingfisher, Mallard, Moorhen, Black-headed Gull, Robin, Goldfinch, Blue Tit, Starling, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove including on a street light out the back which is always good to see, Carrion Crow, Magpie, Jackdaw and spider.
