Yeah, we didn’t like it when we were doing that, either. Also, like… I was in the Army and in Afghanistan and most of us had to follow the actual Rules of Engagement (RoE), which included establishing Positive Identification (PID) on a hostile target. Like, we had to see them actually shoot us, and then we had to have our eyes on them at all times while we called up our Battle Space Owner (BSO) who was usually an O-4 that did not want to lose his career by accidentally okaying the killing of a noncombatant. If the target went behind a tree for a second, we had to give up on that target. If there were other people that had not fired on us close by, we could not fire. For all the war crimes that were committed by U.S. Service Members, and for all that the rot went to the top, it was not something that was generally encouraged by the leadership or wanted by those of us on the ground. What the IDF is like if you took all the worst elements of the U.S. occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq and just made that the whole army. There’s no attempt to follow RoEs. The BSOs have no accountability. They sure as hell don’t bother with making or keeping PID on any target, they just assume anyone they see is legitimate. They make the U.S. War on Terror look like a damn picnic by comparison. John Kirby… frickin’ dumbass.
