Guys. It has been such a WEEK. I know it's only Wednesday but man.
Sunday was chill. The cat we were catsitting went home so I furiously vacuumed and my skin chilled out because yeah I love cats but I have to admit - I am allergic.
So by Monday I was like oh wow this week is starting off great! Had a good day at work, my skin was good. Basement was a little stinky in the morning but eh, basement.
I WANTED to sit on the couch and have a glass of wine while watching Alex, Ernesto, and Kai bear people up when I got home from karate. What ACTUALLY happened was I got home and went "OKAY what died in our basement?"
Turns out a window leaked in the most recent torrential downpour and flooded our basement. Guys. Don't put carpet in a basement.
So instead of chilling we emptied out the carpeted room and were sad about the mold growing on things.
Tuesday my parents came over and we ripped up the carpet (immediately smelled better once the carpet was gone).
Then any wet drywall (wetwall. My husband thinks he's hilarious) had to go.
We found a bunch of .40 cal bullets wrapped in duct tape hidden in a cinderblock, so that was...weird.
But there was no chilling on Tuesday.
Today. Wednesday. I finally got to come home. Go to karate. Then come back home and chill. (My parents did come over and finish getting rid of the damp drywall but I wasn't needed so I got to go kick things)
Might have been my favorite episode of Almost Paradise so far.

Sometimes I boot Gotham Knights just to enjoy the background ambience of Gotham at night while I'm doing other stuff. It's nice hearing the occasional quip from an NPC as something happens down on the streets below, paired with the gentle drumming of the incessant rain. If you scale up high enough, all you'll hear is the rain and the gentle thrum of the city. It's quite meditative in a way.
Sometimes, I leave it running and forget it's the game and not a similar ambient sound on YouTube. I don't even think to check sometimes. I just leave my word processor in fullscreen mode and go about my tasks like a Roomba bumping into things and wandering off to do others.
All of this is to say I just about pissed myself when, after forty minutes of uninterrupted writing and listening to what I thought was YouTube, I went down into the dimly lit basement to do laundry with my noise-canceling headset on, only to get halfway through loading the washer when I heard the dulcet, expressive tones of Jason Todd sighing directly into my ear like gravel sliding over sheet metal.
When I tell you, the scream I screamt. Hgjkgolwmeoihgksdjvmn
Like I'm so sorry, Mister Todd. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to leave you up there in the rain, but also CAN YOU NOT?!

I am generally known as a nice and gentle person. I like being kind. It comes naturally, it makes me happy, etc etc.
I am a nice person.
Except when I'm tidying my parents' house, at which point I am instantly transformed into a petty bitch.
#this isn't even a GENERAL tidying-up thing it is really only when I'm in my childhood home#it isn't even helpful! So I don't know why I go from a person who might say 'oh dear would you like some help with that'#to cheerfully announcing 'HelLO' as I drop a pile of ancient partially moldy crafting material right in front of my parents on the table#and daring them to finally permit me to throw them out with a mean grin#to be fair I applied for an evaluation of said materials in late summer I think and they've been just kinda on the basement floor since then#one is a pot of prw-prepared paper mache that is miraculously still soft (but moldy)#and as my father says. Ceramics don't usually mold per se#but it does when you collect the material from a cave in france ca 2012. wrap it in a wet rag. And then forget about it for a decase or so#we threw the baby out WITH the bathwater (didn't even open the tupperware)#chaos rambles
