Fuck seed oil discourse, fuck globalism conspiracy great replacement bullshit, the internet of today sucks. We have to go back, back to the way things were. When men, real men - who may have been catgirls to be clear since you never saw their faces - would tell you what The System refused to say: that your understanding of a battle from 2000+ years ago that you got from Westpoint textbook formation diagrams as bastardized by some other YouTube channel is an inaccurate portrayal of the event based on the 500 hours they spent building a brick-by-brick simulation of the battle in the Unreal engine. Enviously-autistic levels of devotion to a topic that is never, ever going to be politically or personally relevant a day of your life.
This is what the internet is for.
Anyway I only just started watching, but I can tell I am gonna be a fighter with dear Invicta up here. My bet is that 50% of this video's point is going to be the perfectly correct statement that the 1970's model of the battle that people have in their minds is wrong. Back when academics read Livy, read Polybius, and were like "yep, these two authors who are honestly contradicting themselves 20% of the time sound legit, let's take em at their word". Which is a valid point to make, obviously, I just bet the branding of the video will run a bit of aground of the need to cite the dozens of more modern academics who already know this. You have "you are wrong about Cannae" articles dating back to the 90's, and that is just one I knew off the top of my head - I have no doubt there are earlier ones. Cannae's sources are spotty, and our understanding of it will always be vague and debated.
The other 50% is going to be what I would call "model devotion" - essentially taking the conclusions of the model as a sort of gospel. But the model is, of course, built from the same vague guesswork as the spotty sources, and is a process of embedding assumptions. Right in the opening he declares that "once you realize how big the battle is, the idea of an organized retreat over a distance of a kilometer is impossible to consider" idk man I can consider it! Have you looked at military history? People do crazy shit, particularly when they are prepared to do it. If Nasir could lead men 600 miles across the desert to attack Aqaba by land, I think these guys can fight for a few kilometers. Doesn't mean they did, but in particular if it was so crazy contemporary sources probably would have pointed it out themselves (Polybius, not Livy - Livy sucks). People tend to over-assume the ignorance of the past - Cannae was a momentous event. Romans wanted to understand it, and we should extend at least some credit to them on that front.
But again, I have only watched a little bit of it - overall it looks great, really! He clearly did a ton of research and work, anyone who is building custom maps of the Aufidus River's historical floodplain to estimate various battle site locations deserves all the credit in the world. I will watch the whole thing, maybe he will convince me!

Alright ya got me rewatching some M*A*S*H. Currently on S5E23 "Souvenirs," and I just gotta say: Drunk Margaret is hilarious, in this house we stan Drunk Margaret.
I truly love that the moment she ditched Frank (even if it was for Lt. Col. Donald Penobscot of Westpoint) she got like, 30% more interesting. I love middle- and later-season Margaret so much, she's such a great character.
(And also they did SUCH a good job of giving her a fatal flaw that explained why she was such a tiresome character in the first few seasons in a really sympathetic way. Poor woman's got more Daddy Issues than she knows what to do with and just craves validation so so badly from any military man she can find, whether it's childish Frank or emotionally unavailable Donald. I'm glad that she becomes friends with Hawkeye and BJ in later seasons, and *especially* that she becomes close to Col. Potter and starts getting that paternal affection she clearly never got as a kid.)
I'm currently on S3E15, but I do voguely remember some things about her engagement with Donald Penobscot (I also remember that she sang about him in "Gee, Ma, I Wanna Go Home" segment that comes in later seasons).
Honestly, I'm waiting for the coming of my guy Col. Potter. A true M*A*S*H* 4077th king. I want to get to these episodes I know quite well and feature the "replacements" that I grew up with.

A Medical Report
Patient: Cpl. Lucy (last name unknown)
Age: ~29 Height: [REDACTED] Weight: [REDACTED]
Hair Color: Brown Eye Color: Green Skin: White
To understand the patient's present mental state, we must begin with her history. Ms. Lucy was a resident of the city of Arcester, colloquially known as the Ivy Tower, which was destroyed by unknown means twenty years ago. She is one of only [REDACTED] survivors of that event, all children from the same general area of the city. Her survival is considered miraculous by all metrics: in spite of the district being on a middle branch of the great tree and falling over a mile in the disaster, Lucy was pulled from the wreckage of a church with comparatively minimal injuries. Those consisted of a broken leg, some bruised ribs, and the apparent loss of function in her left eye (more on that subject later).
The government was unable to locate her next of kin, so Lucy was placed into the foster care system at the age of 9 (all medical records of her from Arcester were lost in the Fall, so this is only an estimate). She was given extensive therapy, and passed through the education system with little difficulty. Upon graduation from high school, she enrolled in Westpoint, and has since entered military service where she has had an uneventful career (from what documents the army was willing to turn over, at least). Which brings us to the present, and this evaluation.
I've had many chats with her: about her colleagues, her job, her daily routine. She has a casual manner of speaking. However, Lucy is always distant, never broaching these topics herself and describing them as if they were happening to someone else. When the subject of her childhood is raised, I would expect her to clam up, but she does the opposite. In fact, she often speaks of the Fall as if it were something that occurred yesterday. It is my opinion as a professional that she copes with her trauma by living in the past; whether that is healthy or not, it seems to have worked for her thus far.
However, her musings on the Fall are rarely consistent. One day she'll recount how she met a friend outside her home before going to the church, while another recollection will have her explain that she went to the church alone. Who she spoke to, where she went, it's never the same twice. Only two details have stood out in piecing together all of her accounts. First, many (but not all) of the children she claims to have encountered were also survivors of the Fall. In fact, during our last session, Lucy told me about a conversation she had with one of those children, a boy named Nate. The details are of little importance; the important part is that she claimed to have had a phone call with him just before the session. I gently reminded her that she had said before that Nate had died in the Fall, and she reacted by saying, "Yes, that's right. I forgot that I didn't save him this time." The session ended before I could ask what she meant by that, but I intend to bring it up next time.
The second consistent detail is the mystery woman at the church. Lucy always describes her as being there, prompting her to take shelter before the collapse, but no such person was retrieved from the wreckage. She has also mentioned in passing on more than one occasion that she, "...gave the woman her eye." Which brings me to her injuries: according to the reports from the time, no actual damage could be found in Lucy's eye. However, testing showed that she is unable to see out of it, and that it, in the words of the report, "wanders out of sync with the right." I asked her if she was willing to let me look at her eye, and she politely refused.
I have not reached a diagnostic conclusion in regards to this patient, though I suspect a form of dissociation based on the evidence so far. I believe more therapy is required before she will be fit for active duty again, if that's even possible.
Signed,
Rebecca Carlton, Ph.D
Date: XX/XX
[Appended to the bottom of the report]
Cpl. Lucy is to be transferred to a new psychiatrist, effective immediately. And please, remind her that we can only do that so many times, so it would be best if she stops discussing [REDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTEDREDACTED] with them.

“So sissy lived in Richmond, Virginia, in the Eisenhower Years, so called as if the passing seasons, with their eggs hatching and rivers rising, cakes baking, and stars turning, their legs dancing and hearts melting, their lamas levitating, and poets doing likewise, their cheerleaders getting laid at drive-in picture shows and old men dying in rooms over furniture stores, as if they, the passing seasons, could be branded by a mere president; as if time itself could toddle out of Kansas and Westpoint, popularize a military jacket and seek election to Eternity on the Republican Ticket.”

lilac + peony for javy.
what was your muse’s childhood like ?   how has their upbringing affected them as they’ve aged ?
Javy's childhood was as fairly average as it could've been as a military brat. Although a combination of a high-ranking father and generational wealth led to some more unique experiences. He spent most of his time in Virginia and attended private school from 6th to 12th grade.
He'd also been an only child most of his childhood, which only contributed to his golden boy status. Javy does have a much younger sister, who wasn't afforded some of the same opportunities (private school, but no new car at 16 - that sort of thing; subtle but it's clear his parents have a favorite). It's taken him some time to start to unlearn his parent's behavior and it partly influenced his decision to attend Annapolis over Westpoint.
what would a   ‘  happy life  ’   look like in your muse’s eyes ?
A long piloting career; a happy marriage, but likely no kids. Right now, he thinks he'd prefer to be an uncle than a parent.

Thinking about Service Academies? 3 Things to Know Now
Tumblr media
If you know a young person thinking about the prestigious U.S. Service Academies in their future, there is a lot to know. The candidate processes at Westpoint, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, & the Coast Guard Academy are unlike traditional college applications.
Here are three things to know now if you are curious about these opportunities:
Preparation begins now:
While each service academy has its own expectations and profiles of their ideal admitted candidates, know that admissions is as competitive as the most highly selective colleges in the country. All of the academies are looking for students who are both excellent students and committed, accomplished athletes. They expect to see students taking rigorous courses and earning strong grades throughout high school, particularly in math and science. They look for students to compete in one or more sports as varsity athletes throughout high school. Prospective students will also need to complete health evaluations and prepare physically to score well on the Candidate Fitness Assessment.
Importantly, they expect strong applicants to have had a long-term record of leadership in various roles, a track record of taking initiative, and deep community involvement through service and volunteerism. The best way to prepare as a candidate is to consider each semester and every summer of high school as an opportunity to build that track record of excellence.
Service academy admissions typically begin with a preliminary application or pre-candidate qualification process. These applications open to prospective applicants in the winter of 11th grade. Students should be well-prepared ahead of time to research the process and complete these applications early.
Prospective applicants will also want to have SAT or ACT scores in advance of that preliminary application. So, interested students should plan to take the SAT or ACT exam by December of 11th grade.
Nominations are an essential part of the candidate process:
As applicants move forward in the process, there is one essential step at three of the four academies: the candidate nomination. To attend the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy or Westpoint, a student must secure a highly competitive and limited nomination.
While there are nominations put forward by the Vice President of the U.S. and special nominations reserved for military-affiliated applicants, the most accessible nominations come from the U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives in the state where the applicant lives.
Your Senators and congressional representatives’ offices will have specific processes for these. It is important to look into these processes early at the offices of both of your Senators and U.S. Representative. You will need recommendations, essays, resumes, and other steps. Qualified candidates can also expect to complete an interview. You may begin preparing in 11th grade, and complete this process in the fall of 12th grade. Without securing this nomination by January 31st of 12th grade, a candidate’s application cannot proceed.
Learn more through a summer experience:
Each of the academies offers a summer experience, usually for the summer between 11th and 12th grade. Some even offer programs for younger high school students. The application process for these programs is highly competitive, but they are a powerful way for a prospective student to experience academy life firsthand to determine if they wish to proceed with the application. In addition, the summer program application can serve as the student’s preliminary application in most cases. While the academies indicate that acceptance or denial from the summer program is not predictive of admissions outcomes, an acceptance does provide a prospective applicant an early indicator that they are on the right track.

Here is one of many historic objects held in the collections of the Harbor Defense Museum, Fort Hamilton, NY and highlights women in the Army. This is a necklace of twenty-eight (28) foreign coins joined together with wire through holes drilled in the coins. The donor, Technician Fourth Grade (T/4) Ruth Tenzer (bassoonist) was a member of the 401st Women’s Army Corp (WAC) Band stationed at USAG Fort Hamilton. During World War II each branch of the military had all-female bands, which performed martial duties and supplied Soldiers with morale boosting music. The U.S. Army fielded five such bands: the 400th, 401st, 402nd, 403rd, and the 404th WAC (Army Service Forces) Bands. The 404th being the only all-female, African American band in military history. In February 1944, the 401st WAC Band arrived at USAG Fort Hamilton, New York. Afterwards, it was redesignated as the 401st Army Service Forces (ASF) Band, which consisted of twenty-nine (29) professional musicians, possessing considerable musical experience in civilian life. The 401st ASF Band often performed from greeting vessels, which followed the troopships arriving at NYC’s Harbor, lifting the spirits of homeward bound Service Personnel. As the men cheered, a few Soldiers tossed coins towards the band. Mrs. Tenzer collected some of the gifted coins and made this necklace. This one-of-a-kind souvenir! Soon after the end of World War II, all women’s military bands were deactivated except for the 400th ASF Band, which was re-designated the 14th Army Band (WAC) in 1948 at Fort Meade, Maryland. The 14th Army Band (WAC) lasted until 1976. In 1978, the WAC as a branch was disbanded and all female units (including band members) were integrated with male units. #Armyhistory #USArmy #TRADOC #MilitaryHistory #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenintheArmy #HarborDefenseMuseum #ArmyBands #ArmyMuseums #WAC #FortHamilton #WestPoint #WWII Posted @withregram • @armyhistory (at Army Recruiting Columbia, TN) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqTSciTu2dU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Peeta and Tong discuss this while doing their squad 452 training.
Katniss when she hears Peeta might be sent after her in the capitol.(She already thinks Coin brought Peeta to squad 452 to kill her):
Tumblr media
Peeta also expressed the belief that if Squad 451 was deployed in the capitol it would be subject to significant capitol attempts to destroy or capture the squad, In the same conversation on October 3rd. (The same day Peeta successfully chased Katniss off his watch)
Could Peeta and Annie be sent to the capitol as part of a D13 unit? They are training in training units and if it's like their assignment by the board to squad 452 then aren't they already assigned to 2 units at the same time since they are privates In training?
Their both assigned to Training Squad 300 in Fort Alma.(ancient westpoint)
So I think the D13 training unit is unrelated to the unit assignment which is D13 complement of Squad 452.
Once the war is over are both Katniss and Peeta going to be stuck in 13? Peeta still has his military service, unclear when Peeta is going to be let out of the mental hospital.
D13 is going to be pretty prosperous and is probably going to be a city. Coin for all her flaws rules a district where people can die of old age instead of overwork and where the district is self sufficient. D13 has a variety of professions and is economically diverse. The alleged lifeless bunker has bars and swimming pools, it also has a TV station, library, and more. Coin has lead the district to prosperity which feeds her ego, and justifies her actions and makes her beloved by 13. And she achieved all this without exploiting 12 districts, and the austere lifestyle of D13 the hard work of the district won its prosperity themselves. It is the ultimate achievement of communism. Collectivism might seem a violation of the individual but the sacrifices made towards the collective enable the expression of the individual to the point where people in 13 have music buds.
Coin sees 13 as the closest thing to a Utopia or the fulfillment of communism her aim is to make all of Panem like this.
Random notes
In the early days following the allocations Peeta spent hours in the library, did pre military training, got involved with the cartel, had loads of therapy and paperwork,
Party of Coin
Panemios Progressive workers party
PPWP
party chapters in every level like the communist party in the soviet union, baath party in the arab dictatorships, fascist party under Mussolini, party membership mandatory under the supreme leader of Panem alma coin. During the second rebellion leaflets promoting Coinism have begun emerging in the liberated districts to promote the teachings of Panem's leader Alma Coin. There are multiple factions.
Revolutionary fire forces RFF
The political police of supreme leader Alma Coin-similiar to the NKVD or Gestapo. Probably the ones organizing the assasination attempts on Katniss.
Peeta facing the likelihood that his unit is likely to be deployed at least near the capitol if not in the capitol itself. Though Peeta's training should last 3 months or October, November and December followed by advanced training of 4 months. The question will remain of what their role in the war is if he hasn't completed training.
Coin also likes dangerous training tests so Peeta hasn't ruled out that this won't involve a "training mission" to the capitol.
Peeta knows he's crazy so he wonders if at least Squad 452 will be somewhere relatively safe
Coin uses district militias as cannon fodder in the battle of the capitol. It takes years to train the D13 army and they don't want to take heavy losses in experienced personel. While Squad 452 is mostly a district unit Peeta and Annie are there as D13 soldiers with far more serious military training. (Coin trained vast amounts of district rebel conscripts that were more based on quantity then quality spearheaded with more experienced rebel units like Paylors unit or the D2 rebels, those were less expendable.)
Peeta hopes that Coin will ensure their identities are masked since he's a high level target.
His main training deployment he hopes will be propoganda in the service of reconstruction or the training test will be in D2 agianst the PK remnants
(Still working out the deployment and structure of the D13 psychological warfare division.
