Fallout 4 Occult AU
After reading @hydroflorix ‘s werewolf/vampire au posts, I wanted to add some ideas as well, including other occult species that could exist. In this AU, all of the occult species were caused by the FEV, and the Minutemen and the Brotherhood each represent specific occult (I wanted to come up with one for the Railroad, but I couldn’t think of one.) Anyways, let’s begin!
Ghouls-Vampires
hydroflorix already covered this on their blog, but basically the ghouls would be vampires but more monstrous looking ones, like nosferatu.
Half-Vampire
A half-vampire is the offspring of a human and a vampire or two half vampires. Unlike other occult types where you’re either it or not and it’s carried down through the generations, vampiric traits would disappear in the event each generation and their offspring were to be with a human until the human side is dominant.
Unlike their monstrous parent, half vampires look more human, with smaller fangs and less pointy ears.
Their skin is still sensitive to sunlight, but not as bad as pureblooded vampires.
Half-vampires can’t go feral like vampires.
Synth- Werewolf
So hydroflorix’s idea was that the Institute kidnapped people and turned them into werewolves (mostly as babies but sometimes as adults).
They have fangs too but they’re small
Higher metabolism and require more protein in their diet.
They have better strength, agility, and endurance than humans.
Werewolves can shift into two forms, their half form and their full form
Full form
Basically when someone completely shifts into a werewolf (hydroflorix has some cool art of that on their blog)
Takes up a lot of energy so most werewolves prefer not doing that.
After being in full form, most werewolves get really weak and need a day of bed rest. Symptoms include nausea/vomiting, exhaustion, weight loss, severe hunger/thirst, and body aches.
Half form
It’s halfway in between human and werewolf.
Takes up a lot less energy.
Minutemen- Mermaids
Listen I know it sounds dumb, but mermaids are cool so yeah.
The Insititute was involved also and used an early form of FEV via infecting the crops and water source of a few settlements, resulting in mermaids. Most of them fled the Minutemen after the Quincy Massacre, but are slowly rejoining.
Mermaids are basically human who can grow a tail when in water.
They get their tails by forming a shiny film over their legs that looks and acts like a tail. Once they get out of the water, they shed the tail.
Have gills on their necks and can breathe underwater. Also immune to radiation.
Brotherhood- Harpies? Winged people? (idk the specific term)
This occurred when Roger Maxson and some of his men (and Roger’s son) were kidnapped and tested on by the scientists at Mariposa in the months leading up to the Great War.
They passed this down to their descendants, which is why most members of the Brotherhood have wings, (not all of them tho)
They also have larger lungs with tiny air sacs like birds.

I Hate the Alternate Ending of Blind Betrayal, and Here's Why!
Tumblr media
DISCLAIMER THE FIRST: Massive spoilers for Fallout 4 abound. This post discusses Blind Betrayal, a quest with suicide as a heavy theme. Content warning applies.
DISCLAIMER THE SECOND: This post discusses cut OFFICIAL content from Fallout 4 that has since been repurposed into multiple mods. I am not criticizing any modders or their implementations of this content. Mods are fun and people can enjoy whatever the hell kind of game experience they want with whatever mods they want.
I am ONLY interested in discussing the original cut content as Bethesda had written it, and how it would have impacted the story and lore of Fallout 4.
So, yeah, it seems there was originally going to be another way to conclude Blind Betrayal (BB).
As described in this Kotaku article (citing this post by Tumblr user tentacle-explosion,) there are unused audio files of Danse’s dialogue that show an alternate ending to his pivotal quest. These lines are the only evidence we have of this ending (suggesting that it was cut fairly early on, as no other actors/characters seem to have recorded for it.)
From what we can tell, in this alternate ending of BB, Danse comes up with a possible way out of the sticky situation re: his identity as a synth. According to the Brotherhood Litany, he is able to challenge Maxson’s authority as Elder via combat. If you agree to this idea, you go with Danse to challenge Maxson. The Paladin and the Elder duel one another, Danse wins, and Maxson dies. Then Danse names the Sole Survivor the new Elder-- or with a hard charisma check, you’re able to convince Danse to take the job himself. It is unknown how the main plot would have progressed beyond this point, as there is no other evidence of what being (or influencing) the Elder would have been like or what choices it would have given you.
There is understandable disappointment in learning that this ending was cut. Choices in games are great, and it could have been fun to have multiple different options for how to resolve the quest. In many gaming circles, people complain that this theoretical ending is superior to the one we got and shouldn’t have been axed. The Kotaku article calls it a “way better” ending, and you’ll see many players lamenting that it wasn’t implemented, saying Bethesda was bad at writing for cutting it, etc.
So why did Bethesda get rid of the Elder ending of BB?
In December 2020, after the Fallout 4 Cast Reunion, Danse’s voice actor Peter Jessop answered questions in a private signing session on his Instagram. Peter Jessop is an extremely kind and gracious man, an avid gamer, and a huge fan of Fallout. During the stream, he reflected on the alternate ending and remembered recording the lines, but stated the content was ultimately cut because Bethesda decided it was lore-breaking.
Peter Jessop is right. Bethesda was right. The Elder ending of BB is a bunch of dumb nonsense. It sucks, I hate it, and I’m glad they got rid of it. And now I’m going to tell you why!
SIDENOTE: King Shit of Fuck Mountain
There is no wrong way to play a single-player video game. If you are having fun, then you are accomplishing the task for which the game was made. Good for you! Play it on easy. Play it on hard. Mod it. Speedrun it. Make up an intricate roleplaying scenario. Perform “challenge” runs. Kill everybody you see. Ignore the story and run around collecting wheels of cheese. Games are meant to be fun and there is nothing wrong with enjoying a game however you damn well please. This is especially true for RPGs like Fallout, which are designed with player freedom in mind.
There is an RPG playstyle I like to call King Shit of Fuck Mountain: a naked power fantasy in which your protagonist is the most powerful person ever, even beyond normal RPG plot significance. Through brute strength, incredible charisma, or having completed tons of quests for world-breaking artifacts and weapons, your character wields godlike influence, able to control people, factions, and the fabric of the world itself. A game enables KSoFM gameplay when it allows the player limitless freedom to gain as much power as they like with zero consequences to plot or storytelling.
A great example of this is the Dragonborn in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. If the player chooses to pursue every questline in the game, one single person can become Harbinger of the Companions, Archmage of the College of Winterhold, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Nightingale and Guildmaster of the Thieves’ Guild, hero of the Imperial/Stormcloak army, the chosen one of like, 11 different Daedric princes, a bard, a Blade, and otherwise just, absurdly goddamn powerful in completely unrealistic ways. And that’s not counting DLCs. A fully-kitted-out Dragonborn is King Shit of Fuck Mountain.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with playing KSoFM if you like to. But I’m not a big fan of this style, personally. Sure, my first Skyrim character became KSoFM while I was figuring out the game, but after my first playthrough I preferred my characters become coherent figures in the story of the world. I pick one or two character traits and things that my Dragonborn is good at, focus on them, and make them part of some overall story. My honorable Imperial paladin werewolf is in the Companions, and hunts vampires on principle. My Argonian sneaky archer is a gleeful thief, but would never jive with the College or the Dark Brotherhood. I like creating protagonists who fit into these settings immersively. I don’t care about power fantasies or being in charge. I don’t WANT my character to be all-powerful, because that ruins my immersion and my little story.
Additionally, in a plot-driven story-focused game like Fallout, KSoFM tears the narrative apart. Skyrim is fairly light on story, so the Dragonborn can be the leader of the Companions and the Dark Brotherhood and whatever other factions without any of them noticing or caring. But FO4’s themes, faction drama, and the main thrust of the plot don’t work at all if the Sole Survivor is able to become too powerful or too influential. The Sole Survivor cannot become the leader of every faction, solve every problem, or eliminate every inconvenient bend of the conflict because it makes the lore of the entire setting implode. Thus, the game forces you to choose between factions. You cannot be with the Minutemen and the Nuka-World Raiders. You cannot be with the Railroad and the Institute. And you cannot become Elder of the Brotherhood of Steel.
So if you’re the kind of person who loves playing KSoFM, if you like plots that your character can “solve” with relative ease, or if you just think it would be super cool for your Sole to become Elder regardless of surrounding storytelling, then you might think the Elder ending sounds super cool. You are absolutely allowed to disagree with me here. Install all the mods and write all the fic and have all the headcanons you like. I respect that. There is no wrong way to enjoy a single-player video game. Have fun!
But if you’re a big nitpicky pedantic lore nerd like me, a fan of cohesive storytelling, or if you just want to hear how the Elder ending of BB absolutely fucking ruins Maxson, Danse, the Brotherhood of Steel, and the entire plot of FO4 from a narrative perspective, read on!
1. The Synth Thing
The Elder ending requires the stupid plot contrivance of the BoS forgetting about Danse’s synthhood.
One of the biggest problems with the BoS as an institution is their strict and dogmatic beliefs, which include a widespread dislike of non-human species. Perhaps more than any other non-humans, the BoS hates synths. Synths are, in their eyes, machines given free will, a violation of the sanctity of human life and the ultimate example of technology run amok. To them, synths are not sympathetic, they are not slaves, and they are not victims of circumstance. They are weapons that left unchecked will destroy all of humanity for a second time. Synths are anathema to everything the BoS stands for, and finding out that one of their most beloved and trusted Paladins is one is an earth-shattering blow to their integrity and sense of security.
It is completely absurd that the BoS would allow a synth within their ranks, particularly as they are waging war against the Institute, who created synths in the first place. It is even MORE absurd that they’d allow one to influence their Elder, or even worse, to become Elder. It completely undermines their mission in the Commonwealth, and the core tenets of their extremely rigid beliefs. No matter the Elder, no matter the Litany or obscure BoS law, no matter how valuable the Sole Survivor is as a soldier or how much influence they wield. Danse is a synth. He’s the enemy. He is physically the embodiment of everything they hate.
Not only wouldn’t they trust a synth in general, but the BoS specifically believes that Danse is an infiltrator for the Institute. Even Danse believes that he is a danger, that the Institute may be able to take control of him and use him as a weapon. Sure, we know none of this is actually true, or possible, but the BoS don’t know that. And given how quick they are to order Danse dead without even the possibility of surrender, I don’t think there’s any charisma in the world that’s going to convince them otherwise.
According to Peter Jessop, this, ultimately, is the reason why the Elder ending was cut. He talks about it around the 11:30 timestamp in his Instagram stream, linked above:
“We recorded an ending where you keep Danse alive and you take over the Brotherhood. But there was a question of content… there’s no way the Brotherhood, once they knew he was a synth, would let him be even the right hand of the person in charge.”
Bethesda correctly recognized the incredible narrative contrivance for the BoS to shrug off the reason they’re trying to execute Danse in the first place. Whatever other beefs I have with this ending conceptually, they all come in second to just what a big dumb leap it is to get beyond this first and most important problem.
2. The Complete Death of Conflict
The Elder ending of BB destroys the conflict of the quest, and potentially the conflict of the entire game.
Greed is a poison. There is no such thing as a perfect ideal or a perfect organization. Power corrupts. Humanity has the choice to build back better. War never changes. The Fallout games are full of themes, depicted by the characters and quests and factions we play out.
Blind Betrayal is rightfully praised as one of the most powerful quests in FO4. Not only is it well-acted, but it puts the player in a very difficult position. The BoS has given you clout and glory and free power armor and lots of firepower, but now you see the price: unquestioning obedience. You are ordered to execute your friend and mentor Danse for the mere fact he is a synth. Are you going to follow that unjust order? Are you willing to give up your principles on command? Or is this where you can no longer stay quiet and stay in line?
To be honest, I’ve always thought the fact you can talk Maxson out of killing Danse but still remain with the BoS in good standing was a cop-out. BB goes 90% of the way to forcing you to choose between a companion and a faction, and then chickens out at the last second to let you have both, if your charisma is high enough.
(I believe this has the fingerprints of Skyrim’s development on it-- Bethesda’s writers got nervous about doing another Paarthurnax choice involving the fan favorite Brotherhood of Steel. That’s right. Danse is the Paarthurnax of Fallout. Frankly, I understand why they chose not to go there, but damn, wouldn’t it have been wild? You want to run with the BoS? Then kill your friend and feel the burn. THIS is what it means to follow orders without question.
As for me, I’d pick Danse every time and sleep soundly without the company of shitty bootlicking dieselpunk LARPers- but I digress.)
Anyway, you know what would have REALLY been a copout? If the game asked you to make a difficult thematic storyline choice, and you solved the problem by just not choosing at all.
You are supposed to feel uncomfortable when Maxson orders you to kill Danse, because the game is telling a story about how it is maybe a bad thing to thoughtlessly follow orders without question. It is asking you to think about what the BoS is, what they are doing, and how they are going to run things, if you choose to let them “win” the Commonwealth. It is pointing out that there is no room for gray in the BoS’ black and white. That a good, loyal man may die because of the way he was made, through no action of his own. That soon, you’ll be killing other people on command. The Railroad. Fleeing Institute synths and scientists. Others, down the line. It all depends on who’s giving the orders. Are you going to follow those orders?
Eesh, that sounds thought-provoking and unpleasant and difficult! Let’s just skip it by killing Maxson and making ourselves the boss. Now we get to tell everybody else what to do!
It’s unknown what powers the Elder ending would have granted the player, or how it would have interacted with the other factions. There is speculation that you’d have been able to ease back on the BoS’ dogmatism, or change some of the later events of the game. For instance, perhaps you could talk the BoS down from attacking the Railroad, sparing popular characters like Glory and Deacon who must die in the normal BoS storyline. Perhaps you could have made the BoS a kinder, gentler faction and directed them to run the way you want them to.
If this was indeed the case, then the Elder ending would not only suck the gravitas out of BB, but torpedo the entire main plot.
If you can get rid of any and all downsides to siding with the BoS, why in the hell would players side with anybody else? With the player given total power, the BoS becomes a perfect faction with no drawbacks, no weaknesses, no tough decisions to be made. Screw slumming it with the Railroad or the Minutemen, let’s take over the BoS. Free power armor and a giant robot! Forget the whole intolerance thing, I hereby proclaim the BoS No Longer Problematic! Now to force all the factions to get along, completely removing all conflict and nuance from the plot!
That’s some real anticlimactic “tell Legate Lanius to go home and then he does it” bullshit right there. King Shit of Fuck Mountain!
Look, it might be nice if there was a perfect path like that to take through the game. It would be cool if our characters could be that powerful and the game was that tailored to our individual choices. On the other hand, “I change all the factions to suit my exact liking” might be a fun idea for a fanfic, but it’s an incredibly boring plot for a video game. “I get to make everything in the world exactly how I want it” is Minecraft, not a story-driven RPG with a complex and intricate plot.
It would be great if complex conflicts could really be solved that easily and effortlessly, but hey, you know what? War never changes.
3. The Assassination of Arthur Maxson (Literal)
Arthur Maxson’s death is too significant and fundamentally disastrous for the Elder ending to make any sense at all.
Hero, villain, leader, monster, tortured soul, brutal dictator, immature twerp, bearded sex hunk. However you personally interpret Arthur Maxson, there is no denying that he is a venerated, popular, beloved figure in the BoS. He is the blood heir of the organization’s founder, a powerful warrior, a brilliant tactician, and a charismatic negotiator. He is responsible for reuniting the East Coast BoS with the Outcasts, leading the new, stronger BoS with a sense of shared purpose. There is a damn good reason his name is Arthur and he named his ship The Prydwen, echoes of King Arthur and the legends of his glorious kingdom of Camelot. Arthur Maxson is so beloved that many view him as a demigod, a messiah sent to lead the BoS into a mighty and prosperous future.
So I’m sure nobody’s going to be upset when some wasteland jackass recruited a month ago stumbles in with a synth, kills him, and takes over his job. Right?
It doesn’t matter that it’s “honorable.” It doesn’t matter that it’s done “by the book” via obscure BoS rules. There is no codex or litany or rule so binding that it’s going to overcome the cult of personality around Maxson. There is no way that the BoS is going to accept the death of Arthur Maxson, a man whose reverence borders on worship, especially not when he is immediately replaced by a wastelander, or a synth.
The death of Arthur Maxson removes the unifying glue that’s been holding the BoS together since mending the rift with the Outcasts. Maxson’s death eliminates the one person that both sides of that conflict agreed could steer the organization in the right direction. Some level heads may try to keep the focus on the mission and the Brotherhood tenets, but Maxson loyalists will never forgive the new Elder for his death, and that amount of passionate righteous anger will not be quelled by appeals to the rules. The new Elder’s war on the Institute is basically over before it begins, when the forces splinter and start infighting over the change in leadership.
And this is if the new Elder lives long enough to actually give any orders. I give them around 24 hours after the duel before some angry Maxson loyalist “accidentally” pulls the trigger and “tragically” empties a clip into their back.
24 seconds, if it’s Elder Danse, the dirty synth abomination.
4. The Assassination of Arthur Maxson (Figurative)
The Elder ending of BB falsely pretends that Arthur Maxson is the biggest and only problem with the BoS.
In the Elder ending, as written, the conflict of BB is considered completely and totally solved by the death of Arthur Maxson. The core problem, that Danse is a synth and considered an enemy by the BoS, has not gone away. But by getting rid of Maxson, this apparently no longer matters. Nobody else is going to take offense to Danse’s nature or protest his presence. Nobody else is going to attack him or try to follow through with Maxson’s prior orders. Nope, that meanybutt guy who gave the order is gone, and everybody else is going to welcome Danse back into the fold like nothing ever happened.
I touched on this a little bit on an ask about Maxson a few weeks back, but a lot of people seem to believe that the FO4 Brotherhood of Steel is the way they are purely because of him. That he is the one making them treat non-humans as second class citizens at best, and enemies to be slaughtered at worst. That it’s his fault the BoS is so vehemently against synths and the Institute. That he is the one influencing their imperialistic tendencies, and treating the Commonwealth like territory to be conquered and people to be ruled over by their betters.
He’s not. That’s the Brotherhood of Steel, guys.
The charitable, altruistic, virtuous BoS that many of us met for the first time in FO3 were outliers. Lyons’ group was literally disowned by the rest of the faction because their kindness to wastelanders had gone so far astray from the “core” tenets. The BoS as a whole has always been exclusive, isolated, and seen themselves as “superior” to the average wastelander. They have long disliked or outright hated non-humans (and even Lyons’ BoS in FO3 use ghouls, feral or not, for “target practice” if they get too close!) The rigid dogmatism of the BoS is not something that Arthur Maxson started, but has always been part of their fabric.
Now, it’s true that Maxson is absolutely going hard on the BoS tenets, and extremely dedicated to upholding them. His BoS are the way they are and act the way they act because he believes that this is the way it should be. Is it possible that a different leader may be a little more flexible? Absolutely. Could a skilled Elder eventually show them the benefits of a softer approach and a more generous worldview? Totally. Is getting rid of Maxson and replacing him going to make that happen overnight, or going to make the rest of the BoS who supported him shrug and follow suit?
Nope.
Blaming Arthur Maxson for everything unsavory about the Brotherhood is unfair to him and also foolishly ignoring the deep, massive problems that are far older than he is-- problems that plenty of its members wholeheartedly believe are not problems at all. Getting rid of Maxson does not make the BoS kinder or gentler. Even pretending Maxson isn’t as personally beloved as he is, any new Elder who steps in and starts trying to fundamentally alter the way the BoS operates and what they believe in is going to face some major, immediate pushback.
Like, a full clip of bullets in the back type of pushback.
In the face if it’s Elder Danse, the godless freak of nature.
5. The Un-Redemption of Paladin Danse
Last, and my personal least favorite!
At first glance, Paladin Danse is a steely jackboot, a die-hard Brotherhood loyalist who fully and firmly believes in their cause. Many immediately dismiss him as a humorless brute, or completely ignore him because they think that’s all there is. But if you spend any time with Danse at all, you’ll notice a sort of weariness in him. He is tired, overworked, and his years of service are starting to weigh on him. He has watched friends, comrades, and mentors die in horrible and gruesome ways, and he suffers from PTSD. Though he has always been told that his own sacrifices, the sacrifices of his brothers and sisters have been” worth it,” he’s starting to question if that’s true.
After telling of the incident where he personally executed his best friend Cutler, who’d been turned into a super mutant, the Sole Survivor is able to console him:
Player Default: You did the right thing. Danse: {Somber} It's what I was taught. I don't know if it was right.
This line is an excellent summary of Danse’s entire character arc. He learns to question whether to believe what the Brotherhood has taught him, or to believe in himself. His gut feelings. His sense of justice and his own ideas of what’s right and wrong.
(In the interest of not turning this into an essay about Danse’s character, I won’t even get into how this also applies to his beliefs about his worth as a person. But keep in mind, that dimension is there, Danse just covers it up by making everything about the Brotherhood.)
During Blind Betrayal, after getting the orders to execute him and hearing Haylen’s plea for mercy, we may expect Danse to be ready to fight back or flee. But when you confront him in the bunker at Listening Post Bravo, he’s compliant and suicidal. Danse is so deeply poisoned by the BoS’ rhetoric that his own feelings or will to live don’t factor into the conversation. He demands that you follow your orders and execute him, because he believes, as the BoS does, that all synths are dangerous and must be destroyed.
Danse: {Stern} Synths can't be trusted. Machines were never meant to make their own decisions, they need to be controlled. Technology that's run amok is what brought the entire world to its knees and humanity to the brink of extinction.
{Confident} I need to be the example, not the exception.
Through various dialogue options, if your charisma is high enough, you are able to talk Danse off the ledge. He is able to consider, at least, that the BoS’ merciless judgment of him is wrong and that what he was taught isn’t right. He is a thinking, feeling, self-aware synth, and that makes him as much a person as any human. Danse is no danger to humanity-- and maybe, most synths aren’t either.
Danse is an example, not an exception.
Later on, if you manage to get him out of BB alive, Danse shows further acceptance of his nature. His approvals about synths begin to soften slightly (or many of them do, at least… it’s not perfect.) He is still struggling with his identity and reconciling it with his former hatred, but his dialogue suggests that he’s on the road to being more open-minded and understanding. Along with this, Danse learns that he has value as a person beyond the Brotherhood. He no longer needs to define himself with BoS beliefs or judge himself by how useful he is to them. He learns that he is worth caring about, worth being friends with or being loved because of who he is-- not what he is, in any regard.
[SIDENOTE: Many players, myself included, are frustrated that Danse’s arc leaves off sort of midstream there. Due to the open-ended nature of the game, we don’t get a real conclusion to his arc-- even though much of his idle dialogue doesn’t change and he still espouses pro-BoS sentiments ( an unfortunate by-product of writing for a video game) there is every indication that he’s started down the right path, but understandably has a ways to go.
Also, Peter Jessop agrees with us.]
Meanwhile, in the Elder ending, Danse doesn’t get a redemption. His entire character arc, actually, hits the skids and does a total 180.
He never leaves the BoS. So scratch the need for Danse to ever think about himself as separate from them. He never needs to question what they’ve taught him or whether they’re right or wrong. He never needs to find any worth in himself beyond his use to the BoS. Why would he? He might be the Elder. The BoS is all he needs to care about anymore. The BoS is all he ever needs to be, ever again.
And I think, most horrifying of all, this Danse never needs to change his mind about synths. On the contrary, one of the surviving dialogue files includes Danse’s speech to reassure the rest of the BoS of his stance:
Danse: I want to make one thing clear to everyone. This body might be synth, but my heart and mind belong to the Brotherhood. The Institute is still a tremendous threat to the Commonwealth. They possess technologies that need to be confiscated or destroyed. And even if that means I have to pull the trigger on my own kind, I’m willing to make that sacrifice.
Elder ending Danse doesn’t grow more understanding on the nature of synths. He doesn’t accept that synths are people, or anything more than technology run amok. He won’t even accept that for himself. Elder Maxson wasn’t wrong about synths-- they’re the enemy and they need to be destroyed.
But, see, he was wrong about Danse. It’s okay for Danse to exist in spite of his nature. It’s okay for him to never fully accept his own personhood, and to outright deny it to his kind. Because his body is a machine, but he’s different from the rest because his heart and mind belong to the Brotherhood.
He’s the exception, not the example.
CONCLUSION:
The Elder ending of Blind Betrayal is dumb, contrived, stakeless, character-derailing powergaming crap at its finest and I’ll happily dance on its grave.
People give Bethesda a lot a shit for their writing-- whether it be stuff they left out, stuff they left in, or stuff that they never, ever could have made work due to the limitations of writing for a video game. Plenty of it is well-deserved, or at least worth a discussion. But from the minute I found out about its existence, I have always wanted to extend a congratulations to Bethesda for cutting the alternate Elder ending of Blind Betrayal. It was a good choice. A very good choice to cut a very dumb plot that would have fundamentally altered the story they were telling, and characters that I’ve grown to love. I think the writers deserve some credit and a hearty handshake for the wisdom of this decision.
Now as for why Nick Valentine isn’t romanceable--

sometimes I feel like a werewolf with my animal instincts just barely in check... I had the brief passing thought "make a post about Elder Maxson being a romance choice in FO4, mention Danse too and say something about cucking" before I was bowled over with the weight of my own terrible thoughts

Halloween Special
--This is a one off Story for the Holiday. It is in no way connected to the of fanfics or side stories, except at the end. Please enjoy!--
The night sky was filled with clouds masking the full moon. A howl could be heard from the Prydwen. Maxson was up late with Knight Captain Cade to figure out why many of the soldiers were becoming tired and weak. The two heard the howl before brushing it off as a deathclaw. How they were wrong. In place of a deathclaw was a just as large hairy beast. It was locked away in the near by Fort Strong sub-levels. It was wrapped in silver chains, howling over and over again. On the opposite side of the room was a woman wearing a sweater that was at least a size too big. She had her ears covered, looking rather annoyed. "Can you please stop!? You're going to attract unwanted attention!" Another woman walked in the room, she had blood dripping from her mouth. "I say we have her keep calling them! I never had so much to eat in my life time." She had tossed a large chunk of meat at the beast. It finally stopped howling to eat. "I'm soooo glad you're able to find food. Some of us are starving." The girl with the sweater lowered her hands from her ears. "You wouldn't if you'd accept who you are. You're a succubi after all, Kimi." "That's easy for you to say. You can hypnotize people so they forget you ever fed off of them." The pink haired girl walked over to the wolf, staring down at it. It was on its back with its tongue hanging out of the side of its mouth. "At least you're not a fifthly werewolf." "Can you not start this, Azumiral? None of us got to pick what we were born as."
Azumiral and Kimikyo stayed at one side of the room as the werewolf stayed on the other. The sun began to rise and as it did the werewolf began to transform into a purple haired woman. Kimikyo woke up to hearing guns going off. She looked up to see the once human Azumiral was now a bat hanging off of some shelving. She poked at the bat gently only to be swatted at. "Azumiral...I hear guns." "Then go check it out! I'm sleeping.." Kimikyo looked at Azumiral then to Kigra who was snoring. Kimikyo whimpered lightly before leaving the room. She peeked around the corner to see soldiers gunning sown the Super Mutants that lived there. They were done killing off the last Mutant when one looked over, catching a glimpse of Kimikyo. "Halt, civilian." She gasped before running off, making sure to lead them away from her sister's. "Let her go. She's not a priority. Let's get the armory secured." Kimikyo had ran through a door that led unknowingly to the outside. She covered her eyes at the bright light, falling to her knees. She rubbed her eyes as she slowly opened them to see soldiers everywhere. Many of the soldiers stopped to stare at her, one even approached her slowly.
Before she knew it she was on the Prydwen in the infirmary. "Please ma'am, I need to examine you. You were in a place infested with Super Mutants." "Super Mutants..." Cade sighed deeply trying once more to examine her only to be swatted at. "Fine. I can see you don't want our help." Cade had left the room returning soon with Maxson and Ingram. "Knight Captain Cade tells us me you don't want our help. Do you understand?" Kimikyo looked at him before looking at Ingram. "I do." "Elder Maxson, Cade. Leave the room." Cade let out a huff of anger. "Now this is my area. I'm not leaving." Ingram looked back at him. "It's obvious she's not comfortable around men." Kimikyo kept her eyes on Ingram. "Men...are dangerous." "See?" Maxson turned to Cade, nodding at him. "Let's leave."
Ingram waited until the two left before turning to Kimikyo. "Is it alright if I check you over?" Kimikyo nodded to her undressing to her underwear. "I...didn't mean that much but okay." Ingram was taken back to see hardly any scars or damage to the girl's body. She did note a black crow wing like tattoo on the girl's back. "You're pretty young, can I ask about the tattoo?" "It's complicated." "I see...well I'm not seeing any wounds so you can get dressed but do you want something lighter to wear? I can't imagine a sweater is comfortable in this weather." "I have to wear the sweater." Kimikyo put her clothes back on. "It hides...assets." She looked away blushing lightly. "I understand. Well I'd say you're free to leave but let me talk to our fearless elder first." Kimikyo looked at her confused. "He was the one that came in with me." "Maxson..." She smiled lightly as she looked at the floor. Ingram was taken back by this. "Why..why don't you explain to me why you think men are dangerous." "It's a long story...but anytime I'm around men..they get hurt...really bad...but also they try to hurt me." "I see.." Ingram had left the room for Maxson to return alone.
Kimikyo looked up at him her eyes now glowing faintly. "I can give you what you most desire." Her voice was that of a siren's song as she spoke to him. He didn't get the chance to speak before she kissed him, wrapping her arms around him. After she pulled away she licked her lips. "Spicy." She giggled at Maxson who was taken back. "You want power...I can give you that. In return you keep me safe." She held her hand out to him. "And well fed. Do we have a deal?" He very uncharacteristically shook her hand, binding circles appearing on each others hands. The two walked out of the room, with Kimikyo wrapped around his arm. A meeting was soon held. "We have a guest staying with us for a while. No harm is to come to her. She is under our protection." This shocked the soldiers who began to whisper after the meeting.
When the two finally woke up it was night time. Kigra stretched before looking around. "Where's Kimi?" Azumiral peeked her eye open before shrugging. "She said there was guns firing earlier. Maybe she's finally getting some food." "That's unlikely you know she's not one to willing go out." Azumiral flew over to Kigra, landing on her head. "She's a succubus, she was bound to find food sooner than later." Kigra slowly walked out of the room to hear people talking. They snuck around until outside where they heard the soldiers chatting. "That new girl is weird." "Yea but she's insanely hot." The two sister's looked at each other before nodding. "That's definitely her..." "Should we follow her?" Azumiral spoke quietly. "No...she's able to feed off of him for now so we'll leave her be for now." The sisters went on their way, getting away from the Prydwen and the many soldiers.
Azumiral changed back once far enough away. "You should lay low on the eating Azumiral...Those were the same kind of men right? If Kimikyo is feeding off their leader it could cause trouble." "Fine! But you have to find your own food from now on." "I normally do anyways." The two stayed silent as the continued to walk on. They eventually made it to the Castle in time. Kigra had thrown some scrap clothe over Azumiral right as the sun was rising. "Please....can we come in? My..my sister is allergic to the sun..?" Preston looked at the two before nodding. "We are here to help those in need. Follow me." The two followed him as he led them to an enclosed room. He left the two alone for the rest of the day.
Once night fell again Azumiral ventured out of the room. She had ran into Preston who was making his rounds. "Good evening. I hope you're well." She spoke gently to him. "Well good evening to you too. How are you feeling?" "I'm well just a bit peckish." She smiled at him, walking closer to him, ready to bite into him as she showed her fangs. "What are you in the mood for? We have all kinds of food here." Azumiral stopped in her spot, blinking in confusion. "You...aren't scared?" "Why would I be?" She thought for a moment before looking away. "Do you have any fresh meat?" "Sure do! It's in the kitchen come on, I'll show you the way." He smiled happily at her as he led her to the kitchen where Kigra already was. "How do you want the meat cooked?" "Rare...is fine, thank you." Azumiral sat across from Kigra who was grinning at her. Azumiral rolled her eyes at Kigra who had food stuck in her teeth. "Wipe that stupid grin off your face." "You like him." Azumiral blushed ready to tear into Kigra before Preston returned with deathclaw steak. "Here you go. Anything else?" "No, we're good. Thanks." Preston smiled at the two before walking away. Azumiral poked at the meat before taking a few bites of it. "He saw my fangs and didn't panic." She spoke softly to Kigra. "That's a first." Azumiral was blushing lightly as she continued to eat. "Is that even doing anything for you?" "It's enough...but I ready need blood.." The two sisters decided to stay at the Castle for the next couple of weeks. Azumiral would stalk Preston around the castle either in her human form or as a bat.
Kimikyo stayed near Maxson as much as she could. A few nights, before they went to bed, the two would have sexual intercourse which gave her the opportunity to feed off his lust for power. Over the two weeks he would give a speech about exterminating ghouls, super mutants and anything that wasn't human. This was upsetting to Kimikyo as she wasn't a human. One night Kimikyo was sat in his quarters, waiting for him to return. "There you are." He walked over to her, kissing her though she kissed him back she moved away from him. "I'm releasing you from our deal. You'll still have the power agreed upon but I can't stay any longer." "What? Why?" She walked to the door, sighing before looking at him. "Because I'm not human. You won't remember me anyways. After I remove the bindings, your mind will be wiped thanks to my nature." She walked out of the room, going to a vertibird to leave the Prydwen. As she left the bindings began to fade and with them the memory of her was wiped away from the soldiers' minds. She looked up at the Prydwen one last time to see Maxson staring down at her. As soon as she was gone many soldiers radioed in about half eaten animals around the Airport and neighboring settlements.
It was days after before Kimikyo began to feel hungry again. She groaned in annoyance as she rubbed her stomach. "I should have stayed...." She left the shack she was staying in to search for food. She followed an old road which led to the castle. She looked up to see Preston standing guard at the door. She walked up to him ready to do her same song and dance to bind him to her but she stopped. She stared at him before smiling happily. "You're in love." This took Preston by surprise which made him stutter. "I-I'm sorry?" "I can see it in your eyes. Does the lucky person know?" She elbowed him gently as she smiled. "N-not th-that I-who are you? Did you need something?" "I'm looking for my sisters. A pink haired girl and purple haired girl. Did they come this way?" Preston nodded to her before leading her to the room the two girls were in. "They're in there. Do they normally sleep all day?" "Just the one does...she doesn't do well in the sun."
Kimikyo didn't stay at the Castle long. Her hunger growing more as she stayed. She ended up finding some gunners. She wasn't fond of the leader to the point where she falsely promised power and money for the group. The leader easily fell for it allowing to feed off of him. She didn't go any further with him aside from making out. After a few days she grew bored of their behavior as it was the only behavior that was found in the nuclear wasteland. After a couple more days two Gunners were sent of to the Third Rail. She had joined the two before breaking away from them to go to the bar. She listened to Magnolia's singing peacefully until she heard Barnes and Winlock arguing with someone. The two left without even noticing she wasn't with them. She walked into the room they were, staring at the man that was sitting in the room. "Uhm, hey there...? Can I help you with something?" She was silent as she shook her head. "No...but maybe I can help you?" She couldn't read him as she could the others. She couldn't tell what he most desired as she watched him. "Unless you have some kind of magic power to keep the gunners off my back, I don't think you can." "Do you..want anything else?" The man thought for a moment before nodding. "Are you any good at fighting? I've been trying to get medicine for my son but I can't go in alone." "Where is it?" He explained to her where and what it was. "I'm sorry...I don't know how to fight...but I will try to get it for you." She leaned over, kissing his cheek before leaving. Maccready was stunned by the sudden kiss before going out to do a job he was hired for.
Only a couple days had passed though the though of the mystery woman stayed with him. Later that day she returned with a vile in her hand. She handed it to him remaining silent. He looked at it, tears forming in his eyes. "How..did you get this? The place is over run with ferals." "I have my ways." She smiled happily at him. The two went to Daisy's having the serum sent to his son before leaving Goodneighbor. "Is there any way I could repay you? I don't like to have debt hanging over me." "Tell me what you most desire. The one thing you want most of all." She looked at him, her eyes glowing as they did with Maxson. "What I want...most of all?" He thought for a moment before smiling at the sky. "I just want my Lucy back and to be a happy family again. You wouldn't have ways to do that would you?" Kimikyo was taken back by this before shaking her head. "I can do many things but I can't bring back the dead....though I wish I could." The two were silent for a moment before he spoke to her. "Did you loose someone too?" She nodded to him. "My brother...I miss him everyday. He was killed by some really bad people because of what he was." "What do you mean?" Kimikyo was silent for a very long moment before smiling at him. "He wasn't exactly...human..." "I see..I'm sorry that he was killed for being a ghoul." Kimikyo looked at him before opening her mouth to speak. "He wasn't a ghoul..." She looked around before leading him to a nearby abandoned building. "He was a demon from the old world." "A demon...?" Kimikyo nodded to him. "We all are. My sisters and I are all different creatures of the night. Haven't you read any kind of book that talks of our kind? Many comics and history books talk of werewolves, vampires, and the old world bible talks of succubi." Maccready looked at her like she was crazy before patting her head. "What ever helps you cope." She blushed at his touch, enjoying the head pat very much.
For the rest of the week she would follow in her sister's foot steps or follow Maccready around until he went on a job. In those few short days the two had seemingly grew close to each other. Kigra had found Kimikyo at Goodneighbor waiting for Maccready to return. "Oi, Kimi." She walked up to her smiling happily. "Kigra? What are you doing here?" "It's almost time and you know Azumiral won't help. Besides she's so far up that Preston guy's ass she hasn't ate anything for days." Kimikyo and Kigra left the town the two walking back to the Castle. "She's not been eating?" "No and by the looks of it neither have you. You two do know you need to feed off of humans to survive right?" Kimikyo tugged at the hem of her sweater. "I met someone...I really like him and I don't want to hurt him." "Does he know what you are?" "I tried telling him but he thinks I'm just coping with trauma." Kigra sighed before looking at her. "It's for the best. If you want to keep him safe you'll have to leave him behind. You know you can't stave your hunger forever. You'll get so hungry that you gobble him up completely." Kimikyo nodded to her, tearing up at the thought. The two looked for an area to put Kigra in only to find a house with a bunker. "This should do. Do you have the chains?" Kimikyo shook her head. "I got taken before I could gather anything. I thought you and Azumiral grabbed them."
Kimikyo and Kigra sighed before going to the Castle. At this point it was night time and Azumiral was roaming the Castle. She looked exhausted and weak. Kimikyo walked over to her, hugging her. "Hey Kimi....were have you been?" "I've been around...in Goodneighbor mostly. Why aren't you eating?" "I don't want to hurt this one..." The two looked at each other before sighing. "I get that...I really do." Kigra looked at her two sisters before hugging them. "I think you should tell him Azumiral...he should know." "He really likes you...I tried feeding off of him when I first came here but I couldn't." Azumiral nodded as Preston had walked up to the girls. Azumiral stepped forward, looking at him. "Preston...I'm...I'm a vampire..I need blood to to survive." Preston looked at her then to the other two who nodded to him. "I kind of figured that out after the second week of you being here. I mean you turned into a bat and have fangs." He led her to the medical area of the Castle were luckily no one was. He dug through the supplies before handing her a blood bag. "Why didn't you say anything sooner?" He asked her. "I didn't want you to be scared of me...or worse.." As she drank the blood she began to look a lot better. The two talked for a few more hours all the while Azumiral was given blood bags.
The two finally emerged with Azumiral looking well fed. "Zumii...we left the chains at the place. Kigra will need them soon." "Right...I'll go there now to get them." Azumiral transformed into a bat, flying to Fort Strong. Preston looked at the two. "So are you vampires too?" "No...I'm a werewolf." Kigra smiled proudly before patted Kimikyo's head. "She's a succubus!" He looked between them before nodding. "Well if you ever need help let me know. I'll do what I can." "Thanks but we've been taking care of our selves for centuries now! I think we got this figured out." Kigra laughed before looking at the frowning Kimikyo. "Though..it's harder for her to find food." "It's..it's not that hard there's alot of greed in this world it's easy to find food...I just don't like doing it." Preston looked at her before nodding. "Why's that?" "I'm...a succubus...I feed off of the desires of greedy humans through....certain...acts...I can get a quick snack from simple kisses and make out sessions..it's even how I bind them to me but...I don't like going around to random people to get food...but I can't..be with the one I want because I'll kill him from feeding off of them for too long." Kigra hugged Kimikyo close to her, stroking her hair. Preston frowned at the information given. "That must be rough...is there anything that could be done?" "Sadly no...I mean she could not feed off of them but like Azumiral she'll get weaker and sickly. She's tried fasting before but it didn't end well. It wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't such a softy! That's what happens when you're not raised with your own kind." Kigra smiled down at Kimikyo. "Wait you guys aren't family?" Kimikyo looked at him, shaking her head. "Nope. I'm a daughter of Lilith. The first woman though I was only born five hundred years ago." "And I was cursed a voodoo queen because my dog ruined her herb garden about a thousand years ago. Azumiral's family traveled from Europe about twenty years before those bombs dropped but she's probably the oldest person alive. She's I think three thousand years old."
Azumiral had returned soon enough with silver chains in her claws. "Here you go you flea bitten dog." "Werewolf." "I don't hear a difference." Preston couldn't help but chuckle at the two. "Well you sure bicker like siblings." "We've been with each other for two hundred years...it's only natural." Kimikyo spoke as she took the chains from Azumiral. "We're all each other has now. Sure we're not the same breed but who would understand us better than each other?" Kimikyo smiled at Preston before looking at her sisters. "I'm going to head back to Goodneighbor. I at least want to say goodbye to someone..." "Alright, will you be back in time for the full moon?" Azumiral asked to which Kimikyo nodded. "I will." The three hugged before Kimikyo left.
Kimikyo walked the path towards Goodneighbor unaware of the men following her. In only a few minutes she was knocked to the ground and tied up by gunners. When she awoke she was locked in a cage above the ground. "So nice to see you awake." She looked over to see the gunner leader. "You promised me wealth and power. I want that now." Kimikyo stared at him with a grimace expression. "You do know I just trying to make a living right? I can't actually provide you those things? How stupid can you be to think I, a totally normal human, could give you power and caps?" The gunners began to whisper among each other before falling silent as their leader spoke. "Never the less you promised, so pay up." "I can't you inbred idiot. I have no money, I can't just make power appe-" Before she could finish she was shot at.
The night had came but Kimikyo was no where to be found. Kigra and Azumiral were both growing worried as the next night was the full moon. "Can't you or anyone else chain her up?" "Yes but they only help so much. Kimikyo also sedates her with her Siren's Song." Azumiral answered Preston. "Siren's Song?" "It's her power it's how she gets peoples attention and under her spell." Azumiral looked at Kigra that was looking panicked. "I could try to hypnotize her myself but it's only to get people to forget what they've seen." Kigra looked at Azumiral. "Don't even try your filthy vampire magic on me." "Don't worry we'll find her." Maccready had walked up as Preston spoke. "Wouldn't be someone name Kimi that you'll be looking for would it?" The two girls looked over at him as Preston nodded to him. "She normally visits but she didn't yesterday...I'm worried about her." Kigra walked up to him, sniffing lightly. "You smell like her.." Maccready to a step away from Kigra. "Oookay then..." Preston walked over to Maccready moving him away from Kigra. "Don't mind her. Anyways we are going to look for her. You're welcomed to join us." Maccready nodded to Preston.
Soon the four were on the search for Kimikyo. They searched for hours with Kigra picking up her scent. The scent led them to a Gunner faction. Kigra was prepared to go in to the building only to be stopped by Maccready. "Are you nuts? Those are gunners. They're bad news." "He's right. We can't just go in there. We'd need an army." The two sisters looked at each other. "She's our sister." "We're going to sa-" Azumiral's voice stopped as she saw the sun beginning to raise. Smoke began to emerge from her skin causing her to cry out in pain. She ran into a nearby building, cowering in a far corner. The rest followed her with Preston comforting her. "Just what the hell is going on?" Maccready looked at Azumiral who had burns on her exposed skin. "She's a vampire, she can't be in the sunlight..." Maccready looked at Kigra before remembering when Kimikyo told them about this. "So...she wasn't just pulling my leg..." He took his jacket off, tossing it to Preston. "Here use this to shield her from the sun. Let's get back to the Castle." "What about Kimi?" Kigra looked at Maccready. "We'll...figure it out." Azumiral transformed into a bat much to Maccready's surprise before Preston wrapped her in Maccready's jacket. The group headed back to the Castle with Preston taking Azumiral the room she'd been staying in. "So then....are you a werewolf?" Maccready looked Kigra who nodded. "You'll get to see it tonight....it's a full moon..." Though this made Maccready smile, Kigra was on the verge of tears. "H-Hey, are you okay?" "I'm fine...just worried." She walked away, going to a spare room to get some sleep.
Kimikyo was woken up by a random Gunner. "Wake up!" She looked at him, her hunger too great for her. She went into a fight or flight mode when she grabbed the Gunner up, pulling him closer to the cage. Her eyes glowed brightly as she transformed. Her nails grew sharp and claw like, a row of fangs appeared in her mouth. She ended up dropping the Gunner to the floor. The Gunner scrambled away from her, leaving her still hungry. She sat in the cage, trying to calm herself down. She clenched at her head breathing heavily, soon falling asleep once more.
Night began to fall. Azumiral was tying Kigra up in the silver chains as tight as she could because leaving the room, also locking it. As the moon rose into the sky Kigra began to transform into a large silver furred wolf. She was much larger than before since Kimikyo wasn't around to sedate her. Her body contorted to the point the chains easily slipped off of her. Kigra charged at the door multiple times with it cracking more and more each time. On the last time Kigra knocked the door down. She stood in the hallway growling lowly before letting out a howl that alerted Azumiral along with everyone at the castle and the Brotherhood. Azumiral ran over to Kigra who was searching the halls of the Castle for food. "Hey dog breathe!" Azumiral caught her attention, transforming into a bat right as Kigra charged her. "Can't catch me!" Azumiral flew off, making sure Kigra was indeed chasing her. She led Kigra towards the gunner hideout where Maccready and Preston were. The two were scouting the area for any easy way in. The two jumped as Azumiral dived onto Preston. "You gotta get out of here! Kigra's right behind me!" On queue Kigra had let out another howl. This alerted Kimikyo and the gunners, which they stupidly ran outside to see the rampaging werewolf. At this point Kigra was killing the gunners for sport, ripping limbs off and tossing them to the side. Kimikyo sat in her cage listening as she heard the slaughter. Azumiral had transformed back into her human form running over to a barely living gunner. "Where is she at? Where's Kimikyo?" "I-In the..the third room..." "Thanks!" She smiled before sinking her fangs into his neck, killing him quickly as she drank his blood.
Maccready and Preston watched for a moment before they looked up seeing vertibirds flying over head. "Great, what the heck are the Brotherhood doing here?" "My guess is they're here to stop Kigra." Preston looked at Maccready. Azumiral watched the Brotherhood for a moment before leading Kigra into the building by chucking rocks at her and whistling Kigra chased her into the building not giving her any time to look in any of the rooms. "Kimi! Kimikyo! I need you to lead me to where you are!" "I don't know where I am!" Kimikyo looked around before she started to sing a random song. "That's good! I'll follow you're song!" Azumiral looked back to see a rampaging Kigra, charging at her. Azumiral found Kimikyo in the cage before she turned into a bat right as Kigra charged her. Kigra ran into the cage Kimikyo was in causing it to bust open. Kimikyo crawled out of the cage before wrapping her arms around Kigra's neck. She began to sing her lullaby to sooth Kigra's rage. Kigra's eyes faded into the purple they are while she's human before letting out a whimper. "It's okay..." Azumiral landed on Kimikyo, hanging off her shoulders like a back-pack. Kimikyo led Kigra outside only to stop when she saw Brotherhood soldiers aimed at Kigra alone. "Back away from the feral beast. It needs to be dealt with." Azumiral flew over to Preston before transforming back into a human. Kimikyo didn't move from Kigra's side. Kigra's ears were pressed to her head as she began to growl at the soldiers. "I will not move." "Then we will shoot you as well. You are betraying the Brotherhood." Kimikyo glared at them as she bared her crow like wings. Her nails turned into claws and horns appeared from her head that laid on her head. "I'd like to see you try." "Kimikyo!" Azumiral rushed over to them, stopping Kimikyo from attacking. Azumiral looked at the soldiers, her eyes glowing bright pink. "You didn't see anyone, only a death claw. The deathclaw ran away." The soldiers dropped their weapons before returning to the vertibirds.
Preston and Maccready joined the sisters. "You couldn't have done that sooner?" "I didn't know what was going to happen." Kimikyo looked at Maccready before looking away. Kigra and Kimikyo began to walk away from everyone, leaving Azumiral, Preston, and Maccready to chat. Kimikyo retracted her claws, changing them back into nails. Maccready had caught up to the two, grabbing Kimikyo's hand. "You're really a succubus?" "Y-yea.." He was silent for a moment before looking at her. "What...what would you have done to them if Azumiral didn't stop you?" "I probably would have attacked them." She spoke gently to him, embarrassed about everything she was. "I would pay to have seen that." He smiled happily at her cause her to tear up. "You're not...repulsed by what I am? How I look?" "You look pretty normal to me, even with those wings and horns. I mean we live in a world with mutants, ghouls, and synths. It doesn't shock me we also have werewolves, vampires, and succubi. Though I have to wonder, are you the only three?" He looked at her but instead of an answer he was met with a tight hug. Kimikyo was crying as no human accepted her so easily. He hugged her back. Kigra sit, looking at the two before trotting back to Azumiral.
"The end." "The end?" "Mama that story was too girly!" Kimikyo had giggled lightly back gently flicking Owen's forehead. "I'm sorry loves but that was the only Halloween book we have here." Owen rubbed his head where he was flicked. "Why did the monsters get to live? They aren't human and papa says anything that isn't human is filth." Kimikyo frowned at Owen. "Now you listen to me, young man, just because they aren't human doesn't mean they are bad. Like this book there are good monsters." "Yea but they vampire ate from the king's men and that succubus she used men." Roger added. "They did what they had to do to survive. The vampire soon began to drink from blood bags, and the succubus did no worse than us. We use Brahmin to eat and have milk." She smiled down at the two boys. "It's time for bed. You both have training in the morning." The twins went to their beds as Kimikyo left the room.

Note
How do companions react to being turned into a vampire/werewolf/zombie/???? Use whatever you like, go ham.
(I guess I can exclude nick..I don't think he'd be able to turn into either. Also I didn't really know what to do with the zombie thing 😭)
.:: Werewolf ::.
Cait:
•It probably sounds beyond crazy, but becoming a werewolf is the best thing to happen to Cait. Sure, it's definitely an adjustment..but she no longer craves the substances she once relied upon for stability- she no longer needs them. The beast within was at such great peace with her, it was all she needed.
•She wouldn't have much problem ripping her foes to shreds either. She feels like she is no more animistic than them..also she feels like it really evens out the playing field with those assholes that use power armour. Now she can just peel them apart in her bestial form.
Danse:
•Feels like his life is nothing but a cruel joke. What..so he's not human..but he's human enough to contract lycanthropy?? Well, now he is 0% human..can you imagine how bad this stings?
•Isolates himself out of fear of hurting the last handful of people he cares about.
•Ends up unfortunately starving himself until he becomes feral..stay away from the former Paladin when this happens. He's hungry..so very hungry.
•Better yet..please try to reach out to him before this point...
Macready:
•Mostly alright because he knows he poses no threat to his son while he figures out to gain control.
•Aside from that- Mac is over the moon with his newfound way of life. He had always been the "far away" combatant, but with his invulnerability and sheer strength- he finally can see what it's like to be the opposite.
•Honestly...it's dorky..but he loves it because he feels like he is one of those badass anti-hero types.
Gage:
•Kind of annoyed?? Yeah, that's a good word for it. He feels like having this burden makes him a number one candidate to join The Pack..god knows it was probably one of those assholes that infected him in the first place.
•Nonetheless, being able to shift into a literal beast and mow down anyone who stands in his way? Totally something he approves of..he just wishes he could sleep soundly.
Preston:
•This is by far the worst thing that could happen to him.
•Spends a good bit of his days trying to do what he can to help others, while his nights are spent as far away from the people he cares so much about. If he were to ever harm an innocent because of this disease of his..he wouldn't have the heart to continue. The guilt would be too much.
.:: Vampire ::.
Curie:
•Has the hardest time understanding what she is and what she is supposed to do about it.
•She just got used to a whole new body and way of life..and now this happens? Total bummer. Oh well, like Cole Porter says..anything goes.
•Eventually finds a way to make lemonade out of these awful lemons she has been given..once she figures out the sunlight is no longer a friend of her's.
•Now there is just the problem of finding something to eat.
Deacon:
•Has very conflicted feelings regarding his vampirism. On one hand, he has new abilities that behoove him greatly! On the other though..uh..he can't travel in the daytime. That's a big problem.
•Actually, given some thought..maybe it isn't so bad! It's not like he goes about having nice walks through the wealth anyways...
•He is remarkably okay with drinking the blood of animals..will even tell you what each animal's blood taste like in overly descriptive detail. Gross.
Hancock:
•Doesn't bother him in the slightest bit. Almost thinks it's funny. Now he's a double freak. At least it attracts the ladies even more...
Maxson:
•He nearly loses his lunch when he figures out what happened to him. He has dedicated his life to leading an organization hell bent on the extermination of anything that loses a threat to humans..and what is he?? A bigger threat than supermutants..ghouls..and even synths. He still looks "human".
•Keeps his secret to the best of his ability..however it does become most curios when the elder orders Scribe Neriah to allow him to personally examine her blood samples...
Piper:
•Has the time of her afterlife as a hot vampire chick
