I'm not explaining why re-imagining characters as POC is not the same as white-washing, here of all places should fucking understand.
#personal#delete later#no patrick. ā€œblack washingā€ is not as harmful as white washing.#come on guys get it together#seeing people in my reblogs talk about ā€œreverse racismā€ and double standards is genuinely hypocrisy#say it with me: white washing is intrinsically tied to a historical and systematic erasure of poc figures literature and history.#it is an inherently destructive act that deplatforms underrepresented faces and voices#in favor of a light-skinned aesthetic hegemony#redesigning characters as poc is an act of dismantling symbols of whiteness in fiction in favor of diversification and reclamation#(note that i am talking about individual acts by individual artists as was the topic of this discourse. not on an industry-scale)#redesigning characters as poc is not tied to hundreds of years of systemic racism and abuse and power dynamics. that is a fact.#you are not replacing an underrepresented person with an oft-represented person. it is the opposite#if you feel threatened or upset or uncomfortable about this then sorry but you are not aware of how much more worse it is for poc#if representation is unequal then these acts cannot be equivalent. you can't point to an imbalanced scale and say they weigh the same#if you recognize that bipoc people are minorities then you should recognize that these two things are not the same#while i agree that ā€œblack washingā€ can lead to color-blind casting and writing the behavior here is on an individual level#a black artist drawing their favorite anime character as black because they feel a shared solidarity is not a threat to you#i mean. most anime characters are east asian and i as an east asian person certainly don't feel threatened or erased. neither should you.#there's much to be said about the politics of blackwashing (i don't even know if that's the right word for it)#but point standing. whitewashing is an inherently more destructive act. both through its history of maintaining power dynamics#and the simple fact that it's taking away from groups of people who have less to begin with#if you feel upset or uncomfortable about a fictional white character being redesigned as poc by an artist on twitter#i sincerely hope you're able to explore these feelings and find avenues to empathizing with poc who have had their figures#(both real and fictional) erased; buried; and replaced by white figures for hundreds of years#i sincerely hope you can understand the difference in motivations and connotations behind whitewashing and blackwashing#classic bixels ā€œi'm not talking about this chat. i'm notā€ (puts my media studies major to use in the tags and talks the fuck outta it)

So the drivers are being told to watch their language (even though its the broadcasters' who literally pick and choose the radio snippets, and have the ability to 1 listen to a radio message in its entirety and 2 censor the quote unquote offensive language BEFORE adding it to the live broadcast), yet a sky sports commentator literally called one of the drivers a slur during a live broadcast, never apologised for it and was never called out for it by officials, but swearing is where F1 draws the line. Swearing has got more backlash from officials than the use of a slur. Cool, cool, cool...

I figured out how all these different races and cultures could possibly agree on currency.

And yes I'm going to say this means Quel'thalas/Silvermoon still kinda uses "Alliance" coins and it annoys them every day but no one's bothered to take them out of the system yet. You'll see well-traveled Horde citizens handing over old coins with Terenas Menethil's face on them to merchants in Orgrimmar and that's just how it is, because they go off weight and not the coin itself.

Recent surges of XY fanart is reminding me about how a part of me gets sad whenever Diantha + Augustine + Lysandre are presented as a trio when to me Malva should be the fourth to the quartet, and like, of course I get why (her relevance isn't really apparent until the postgame and the other three are the 'faces' of the region, french flag colours and so on and so forth) so I have no ill will towards that sort of thing but
It does feed into this sort of meta-analysis turned headcanon for me where no matter how much publicity she has she's never really in the spotlight, despite her position and her presence she's relegated to a secondary pedestal, excluded from ever really sitting at the top. you might say she's got a complex about it

on that note - if people are calling things like "a character wearing leather with a full face of makeup" or "taylor swift wearing pants" butch, it does make me wonder what they see AS feminine standards, you know? even misusing the term, butch does still refer at the very least to a more masculine outward expression (ik there's much more to its actual definition im just talking about the most overused and watered down twitter definition.) if you perceive normative feminine standards so stringently that wearing pants is butch, how do you think of butches who, yknow, actually and genuinely present like men? what about butches on T? butches who use he/him pronouns? butches who are transfem? are they scary to you?
and more salient to my actual point - are you gonna call real-life trans girls who don't shave or wear makeup butch? trans girls who wear pants? or just literally any transfem who is not exhibiting high levels of femininity in her day to day life? also: are you gonna start calling black women who don't wear makeup butch??? because that is what all of this is leading to. are you going to start claiming certain marginalized classes of women are subverting femininity simply because you unintentionally have such ridiculously strict standards?

I just watched a video essayist going over Jenniferā€™s Body have to fully explain the box cutter line, and I remembered one time having to explain why yelling ā€œkick her in the boxā€ had been crude ringside fight banter, not just average fight banter because the people I had been talking to had all assumed Iā€™d meant ā€œkick her in the headā€
Is ā€œboxā€ meaning essentially ā€œcuntā€ that old fashioned? I mean I know itā€™s vintage, one of the oldest euphemism for a vagina. But like, what I really mean is likeā€¦ does no one use it anymore? Why? It doesnā€™t seem like one thereā€™d be a point in getting rid of.
And I did a bit of research and it can mean a cock too apparently depending on the context so like. Yes, due to the nature of euphemisms being vague it can technically refer to anything. But thatā€™s never stopped anyone from using fuck, which literally can mean anything if you work hard enough. Honestly its ability to be technically genital neutral just makes it more effective? Idk. I guess the cock is usually in briefs though. Hence the box.
But either way. It is weird growing old and realizing your slang is confusing people. I donā€™t mind dropping vocab if itā€™s offensive or something, but if itā€™s just old I donā€™t really feel like I wanna alter myselfā€¦ I can just be old and cringe if thatā€™s the only problemā€¦.

Question for all the people who do measure in grams for every recipe: are y'all breaking out a kitchen scale every time you want to bake cookies, or is there a standardized set of baking cups/spoons that use grams?

not to sound like hannibal lecter over here but having your own Outrage, lovingly handcrafting it over months, and not being able to use it beat the crap out of annoying people? I bet that just eats you up doesn't it. sorry this came off sounding really mean. truly though it breaks my heart because you deserve to beat up people that bother you with a flaming magic sword. -šŸ‡
Oh, don't worry, it is VERY sturdy. I could definitely swing this thing at someone if I wanted. The handle segment might pop off again, but the rest of it? Impressively durable. There are two approximately half inch thick all-thread metal rods inside it bound with washers, epoxy, super glue, and heat that melted the plastic together; then a thick layer of Bondo on the outside with more super glue, epoxy, and green stuff (a type of epoxy putty). Its only weaknesses are temperatures over ~160f/71c and running it over with a car haha

do canadians not tip their servers regularly?? wife and i brought my MIL to dinner for her bday and our server was exceptional so i tipped her 22% (my standard if the service is good is 20%, which afaik is relatively normal in america) and when she saw the total her eyebrows shot into space and she got extremely polite and gracious as she was bidding us goodbye
my wife said most people tip 15-20% so i went a bit above that and got a reaction like i handed the woman an entire paycheck or something
