Wampire In Progress Wednesday because I finally wrote some shit ♥ aka some vampire primo x reader
Sunlight warmed the room with soft, golden tones, the glass roof catching and refracting little bursts of color across the floor. Various plant-life filled the space, leaves of impressive size in deep, rich green shielding you and the vampire from the setting sun. It smelled of dirt and grass, like afternoon at the height of summer with just a hint of citrus and flora. But—for reasons unknown—there was a plush, button-tufted sofa in the middle of what appeared to be a greenhouse. Opposite the sofa was a large table filled with flasks in varying sizes, dusty old tomes, and a desk with a surprisingly up-to-date laptop.
“How many vampires have you met?” Primo asked causally, eyes never leaving the screen as he typed.
His fingers danced across the keyboard in a dizzying rhythm, seemingly never striking the wrong key. His movements were so fluid, so flawless, and so assured of their actions that you couldn’t help but watch in awe. In what fucking world did Primo Emeritus need to send emails? As text began to fill the screen, it occurred to you that he was notably older than email, older than any computer you had ever heard of.
If he truly was 900 years old “give or take,” he was a great deal older than most things you could name.
“You jealous?” you countered, deflecting the conversation and attention back to him.
He scoffed but said nothing.
“Let’s just say I wouldn’t call myself an expert,” you admitted vaguely, trying to assess exactly how much truth to include in your answer. Normally, vampires were tricky, ten-steps-ahead types. Overly cocky. Manipulative little shits with nothing but time to perfect their technique if they were so inclined. But Primo was different than the other vampires you had encountered. Nothing he’d said or done seemed to have any ulterior motive—not that you could spot anyway. It was unlikely the First Emeritus—an immortal vampire with great wealth and even greater power—could need or want anything from any human, let alone you.
“I’ve run into a few here and there. Mostly just low-level guys pretending to be more powerful or important than they are. But I know enough not to get involved in their business. Usually.”
“Ah,” he replied with a nod, still typing furiously.
“What are you doing anyway?” you asked leaning over his shoulder to scan the screen. The wording of his email was formal, perhaps a bit private, but he didn’t stop you from looking.
“Vampire business,” he teased and missed your dramatic eye roll completely. “It’s not much. Just part of the plan to protect you.”
“There’s a plan?”
He finally looked up, narrowing his eyes in confusion as he stared at you. “Of course there’s a plan. I always have a plan.”
“A vampire email plan?”

day two! picked the prompt "family" for today, in all its forms :) many thanks once more to @tiesanjiaoshenanigans for organising this all!
—
Wu Xie hasn't seen his parents for longer than a brief flash in—years. Which is why, when, on an utterly unremarkable Wednesday afternoon, enjoying the bright warmth of the summer's day from under the lovely protection of the shade trees in their yard, his phone rings, the last person he expects to hear on the other end is his father.
For a moment, silence reigns; Wu Xie had automatically set it to speaker out of habit, no need these days to hide his conversations from his companions, and, more than that, no real motivation to do so when half the time the calls are either spam or Li Cu calling to tear into him about whatever it is is his fault now, and so his father's voice is loud across the still summer air, and the emptiness left behind is jarring.
From where he's crouched and prodding at the garden soil, Pangzi's head rises, casting him a glance of concern. Wu Xie offers an instinctive smile, slightly strained around the edges, turns off speaker, and presses the phone to his ear. "Ba," he says. "It's been a while since I've heard your voice."
On the other end, a tinny sigh. "Wu Xie," his father says, "come home. Erbai is sick."
Whatever faint hope Wu Xie had had about this conversation possibly avoiding minefields as they'd so carefully managed for the past few decades and change dies a fiery, inglorious death, much like some unfortunate souls in that Nanjing tomb. Instinctively, Wu Xie wants to deny—to bring up the many, many rifts between him and his Ershu, tell his father he's not even sure the man would want to see him if he really is that sick. Pangzi would make a joke about Wu Xie scaring him the remaining half to death.
Instead, he breathes, slow and shallow. "How long?" he asks. Then: "No, don't tell me. I don't want to know." Couldn't bear knowing, his mind whispers in the dark recesses.
"I've booked a ticket for you," his father tells him. "You should have the confirmation information—I used your number."
Should I remember to pay that back? Wu Xie doesn't ask, because it's a step too far. His father has never expected him to pay back his generosity—has only ever expected nothing at all. It's not easy being the black sheep, Wu Xie knows. "Okay," Wu Xie mutters, numb, and feels suddenly and violently like a child, in all the worst ways. When he breathes, he can hear the whistle of it. Xiaoge keeps leaving out pamphlets about sleep pathology clinics. "I'll…see you."
His father doesn't say anything more, just goes mn, and hangs up. The phone, against his ear, is unpleasantly cool in the sunbright warmth of the midday. Wu Xie, stretched out on the reclined chair, stares incoherently up at the sparse clouds slowly meandering their way across the heavens, and wonders, not for the firs time, if there's a world where his family is less—complicated, fractious, just…less. Wonders if his grandfather's family had been like this, too—if the complexities stem from the wealth that he had later acquired, and the way that had shaped all their lives.
And then, without warning, a hand on his shoulder, familiar, slender fingers tapping against the joint of muscle between it and his neck. Wu Xie opens eyes he hadn't realised he'd closed, and finds Xiaoge's image, upside-down, standing over the back off the chair. His head is slightly cocked, inquisitive. "Wu Xie."
"Xiaoge," he returns, a reuful smile. "Did you hear all that?"
"Whatever it was, it wasn't good," comes Pangzi's voice, and when Wu Xie cranes his neck, he finds the other's stood up, pulling off his gloves and dusting off his knees, grass-stained. "Aiya, Tianzhen, what's that father of yours doing calling you up in retirement? I thought this was supposed to be our escape from the calling of the business."
Xiaoge lets out a low hmm. "Shaoxing."
"Ah, fuck off," Pangzi says, gamely, and reaches out to ruffle Xiaoge's hair in a clear show of affection. Wu Xie, suddenly, is so very content that he can't breathe around it. "Well, Tianzhen? Out with it. Ah, scoot over a bit, give your Pang-ye some space to sit."
"Get your own chair," Wu Xie grouses, batting ineffectually at Pangzi, until he has to shift halfway off the chair to give the other enough space to sit. "Si Pangzi," he grumbles, tossing his phone down onto the lush grass, because it'll just dig into his flesh if he tries to put it anywhere else.
Xiaoge's fingers, still on his skin, start tracing senseless patterns—or, rather, patterns with their own sense, but only to Xiaoge; Wu Xie's utterly shit at trying to play that game. He doesn't say anything, but his touch, and Pangzi's loud personality, go a long way to teasing the strands of tension in his body apart. Wu Xie sighs, and presses his eyes shut for a long, long moment, concentrates on the warmth of Pangzi's body and the slight chill of Xiaoge's fingers. "Ershu's sick," he says. "Ba didn't say what it was—just that he'd already booked a ticket for me."
Pangzi turns his head to look at him properly, brows furrowed. "What time?" he says.
There's a long pause, broken only by the distant birdsong and hum of cicadas. "I haven't checked," Wu Xie admits.
"Well, hurry up," Pangzi says, digging around in his own pockets. "This Pang-ye's not a miracle worker; I need to know when the ticket is so I can book two more for the same time."
"For the—Pangzi," Wu Xie says.
"Wu Xie," Pangzi says, in reply. "What, did you think we were just going to leave you to run off and deal with them on your own? Youth, you have so little faith in your elders," he mutters. "Really, what's the world coming to."
"I can't ask that of you," Wu Xie protests.
"You're not asking," Xiaoge points out, placid and paced. "We're offering."
Well, when he puts it like that. Wu Xie sighs. Sometimes, his lovers are terrible in the very best way. "Alright, alright," he says. "Pangzi, get your ass off my leg so I can grab my phone, you're flattening me—"
"Oh, that's how you repay your Pang-ye's generosity—?"
As they devolve into practiced bickering, Wu Xie notes, distantly, that the dark cloud that had fallen over him has begun to dissipate.

One day, the Tenth Boss of the illustrous Vongola family decides to go for a walk. The weather was good that morning - promised to be good all week. It was perfect for a restorative constitutional.
So the Tenth put on a pair of sturdy shoes and he walked out the front door. He walked through the front lawn, passed the main gates, and down the very long, gravel driveway that lead to the estate. In a half an hour, he reached the edge of the Vongola's property, then he kept on walking.
Now, this was not so strange. The Boss had been stuck behind the desk for the better part of a fortnight. He was trying to iron out a deal with the Insolenza, fiesty famiglia in Monopoli. They had tripled their numbers in under a decade, making good money off "waste management". Their wealth of success went straight to their heads (the ones in their pants), because it takes a pair of brass balls to challenge the Vongola family. They figured if anyone was gonna make a stand - they would have to do it now, in the Tenth's first year as boss, before he got too comfy with his power.
They weren't the only ones thinking so because a bunch of smaller famiglias allied with them. Up and down the coast of Apulia, from Barletta to Bari, capos began congregating. They were easy pickings alone but spite - oh spite could be a powerful, powerful motivator. Who does this foreigner think he is? Huh? Waltzing in like he owns the place? Well, he was about to get a taste of Italy's heel.
All eyes were on the Tenth. At 24 years old, he looked half his age, without any Roman machismo to call his own. He was as hairless as a babe, not even a stray whisker on his lip. And he kept sending foot soldiers, then capos, then finally an underboss to try and reason with the Insolenza and their associates. Each and every one was run out of town in a rain of bullets - but not blood. Not yet. Soon, they promise as each shot gets closer and closer to finding its mark.
The Tenth had to do something.
So he goes for a walk, straight off his property, and into the picturesque town of Rieti. Now, the Vongola have their proper headquarters in Sicily like any self-respecting, old blood famiglia. But a few days ago, the Tenth moved from the Iron Fort into this quaint, little place just east of Rome. People began to speculate that this was the first move - that the Tenth was beginning to shift his forces and launch an all out attack from the mainland. But Monday passed into Wednesday, and as far as anyone could tell, the Tenth was just in his office, doing paperwork same as usual. Sometimes, he goes out to town and buys himself a pastry.
As such, when the Tenth leaves the property, no one bats an eye. He's probably gonna grab himself an expresso and a biscotti before hiking back to the house. Except, he walks right past his favored cafe, and crosses the city lines.
That... That gets everyone's attention.
Of course, the first to react is the Tenth's inner circle. Gokudera Hayato hops on a bike and blazes down the road. He catches up with his boss in no time. From afar, a curious staff watches as the Tenth never once stops walking, cheerfully taking step after step as he talks to his Right Hand. Whatever he says to the Storm Guardian, they will never know, but it's enough for him to clench his jaw, nod, and then back away. No other Guardians reach out after that.
For hours and hours, the Tenth walks, heading down south. By then, all the other famiglias have sat up and tuned in, sending spies to watch his progress. When the sun sets and he reaches Bussi Officine, they all witness as he begins to shift his trajectory, heading east, towards the coast. It doesn't take a genius to figure out where he was going from there. But surely, they think, that can't be right. He can't seriously be going to the Apulia Coast, on foot, not even flying as people say he could. Yet, as the sun fully sinks and the moon rises high and this guy continues to walk eastwards, everyone had no choice but to believe it.
The Insolenza were at a loss. Half of them were laughing their asses off. The other half were plotting, scheming, trying to figure out the hidden plan that the Tenth must surely have. The Vongola Alliance was equally at a loss. Don Cavallone and Don Cozarto reached out to the Tenth's inner circle but his Right Hand offers no explanation.
"Trust in the Tenth," he tells them.
When dawn arrives, the young boss meets another of his men on the road. Xanxus di Vongola has both guns out, incandescent with rage. The Tenth doesn’t even twitch and stares straight at him. Keeping his brow in the line of fire, he continues forward, one foot in front of another until his skull nearly kisses the gun barrels. But by then, Xanxus must have found whatever answer he was searching for because he sheathes his guns, walking alongside his boss. They walk together for two - three hours in complete silence.
On the fourth hour, Xanxus speaks up, but far too quietly for any of the mics to catch. In response, the Tenth laughs - a heavy, throaty chuckle.
“Let them come,” he says.
At that, Xanxus stops walking. For a full thirty seconds, he watches his boss pass him by, going ever onward. Then he spins on his heels and flies away. The drones were able to capture his expression right before he left. It was a sight that prompted many to panic. Xanxus di Vongola rarely has any cause to smile but when he does, people rarely seek the cause.
Observers tracked Xanxus flying back to the Iron Fort. This destroys any claims of the Vongola launching a ground assault or really, any kind of assault. If they were going to wage a war, they would have summoned their prized warhounds.
By now, it’s been forty hours since the Tenth started walking. He has neither eaten or slept. And, as day becomes night, the assassins attack. To the surprise of most, they were not sent by the Insolenza. The Vongola has earned plenty of grudges in their long and disastrous history. There’s plenty of enemies willing and eager to take potshots at an unprotected boss.
Some send a few freelancers seeking glory. Others spend a small fortune hiring Named hitmen. And the rest are known to the Tenth, throwing hands just to keep him company. Those seem to find this whole endeavor hilarious.
The fights are short and sweet but numerous, enough to continue into the morning and through the afternoon. Not a single one, neither friend nor foe, could break the Tenth’s stride. As a result, he leaves a long trail of bodies behind him, all alive if not awake.
This attracts the attention of civilians. Now despite the notorious corruption of local law enforcement, a pair of polizia pull up to the Tenth. They frown and they yell and they light up their sirens. He smiles at them, speaking softly. Before the last words leave his mouth, they rush back to their car, without a bribe in their pockets and with a hefty shit in their pants. The Tenth never once misses a step.
He reaches the coast around the witching hour of the third night. After all that walking, his hair is wilder than a bird’s nest and his skin is several shades darker. A thick layer of grime and dirt cover his bespoke Armani suit and his polished, leather loafers. Yet the Tenth himself remains fair of face and strong of limb. The Insolenza are no longer laughing.
Taking a deep breath of that salty sea air, the Tenth turns south. He walks at a leisurely pace, even taking the time to wave at a few bystanders. The clueless ones wrinkle their noses, possibly mistaking him for some homeless vagabond. This brings a smile to his face and a spike of adrenaline to everyone else. At this time, no more assassins come for the Tenth as everyone shifts their focus onto the Insolenza.
They have set up a blockade. Concrete barriers sit on the road, in front of armored tanks and enough artillery to pulverize a mountain. The fourth day begins with a firestorm. They aim, and they fire, and they keep firing - bullet after bullet, shell after shell, missile after missile. The Italian countryside is transformed into a warzone within the span of five minutes, as deep craters pockmark the earth and dust blankets the air.
It was by the grace of powerful, powerful Mists that such a ruckus was largely ignored. Of course, a couple stray eyes bore witness but they knew better than to speak of it. Aside from the shroud of secrecy, no one else intervenes on behalf of either party. This was now a battle between the Insolenza and the Tenth. Enemies and allies watch on the edge of their seats as the dust swirls and twists.
The Insolenza run out of ammo and a hush falls over everyone. They don’t blink. They don’t breathe. From the lowest footsoldier to the high-handed capos, they could only watch, with ears ringing and pulse racing, as the dust settles.
The idiots are ready to rejoice, and they could be excused for they just unleashed a payload that could shame the United States. But the smarter ones expected retribution - for a wave of that infamous Vongola fire to sweep through the ranks. They get neither.
Schrnk. Schrnk. Schrnk.
At first, they barely hear it. But steadily, the sound grows louder as the footsteps come closer. Striding forward, as if on a relaxing stroll, is young Sawada Tsunayoshi, Tenth boss of the Vongola famiglia. Except unlike before, his bloodline is now proudly on display. On his thin shoulders rests a heavy mantle - blacker than the purest ash, as a crown of Flame sits thick and hot on his brow. He looks at the gathered men before him with eyes the color of a molten metal. The Insolenza reel back as if burned.
The Tenth does not stop walking.
To their credit, the Insolenza do not back down. The first to gather his wits throws a grenade at the Tenth. He bats it away with an easy backhand, flashing the engine-red of his gauntlet-covered fists. The others are not deterred, grinding down and summoning either stupidity or bravery to face the young boss. The day proceeds accordingly.
They throw everything they had left. There is a mountain of over the top violence, swearing, and unnecessary shouting. They flash him the goods, the greats, and the even betters. The Tenth keeps going, never straying from his chosen path, never changing his placid pace. When he reaches the tanks on the road, he lays his burning hands on the chromium armor and without even hesitating, melts his through.
The tank operators had the wisdom to evacuate before he could reach them but that’s the lone wisdom they had. One runs at the Tenth with a steel knife! Steel! They just watched him disrespect the strongest alloy known to man! The Tenth immediately drops that guy without a thought, his ass making a satisfying crunch.
When the Tenth makes it through the blockade, battalions of footsoldiers await him on the other side. There’s an echoing cry as they all charge in a single, furious mass. Their guns lay on the ground, completely empty clips scattered all over. They only had their fists to rely on. By then, pure desperation fuels them. There’s a primal need to mark the Tenth, to reach him in any way. Or else… Or else…
They don’t know. They don’t know! They don’t want to know! The reality they understood would be forfeited entirely. They would have to live with the knowledge that beings far greater - that power they cannot comprehend - that giants walk the earth. Death would be preferred - an act of mercy - in the face of that.
The Tenth has no mercy.
As the footsoldiers charge, the Tenth takes a step. Where his foot touches the ground, ice sweeps out - encasing everything for acres around him. Men are frozen where they stand, locked in mid-step with fists cocked and mouths half open. They don’t get anywhere near the Tenth. The fourth night passes peacefully.
He crosses into Barletta some time after daybreak, with only a spare hundred kilometers separating him from Monopoli, where the Insolenza are located. His clothes sit beneath a gritty, bitter layer of dirt, soot, and oil. But there’s not a single tear to be found in the fabric. Now his shoes have given up, which makes sense given all the walking. Only strips of barely stitched together leather are left on his feet. The civilian citizens of the city scuttle away from him, as if he was diseased and not like he was a Capo di tutti Capi. Their Flame blind eyes fail to notice the burning glow radiating from him.
It’s nearing 120 hours, a grand total of five days, and the Tenth still has not slept or eaten. Even more incredibly, he has maintained a state of Hyper Dying Will for thirty hours and counting. Any average Joe would have collapsed long before now, and even the above average Moe would have looked tired at least. Not this guy. He’s just going and going, breathing evenly, and moving fluidly.
When he leaves the more urban areas into proper enemy controlled territory, he encounters a couple more Insolenza men. But these were the assholes that ran from the battle once they realized the futility of the fight. They weren’t about to grow a spine now that the enemy was literally at their doorstep. So… They just follow him. They shadow his steps for the last stretch of the road as the unyielding and unstoppable boss heads for their headquarters. By the time Monopoli is in their sights, there’s a good three dozen of them just ambling behind him. He pays them little mind, taking it all in stride.
As the Tenth hits the city limits, an obscenely slick Porsche rolls up at his side. His new groupies back all the way up as a tall man steps out, pristine and sinful in his tailored suit. He doesn’t interrupt the Tenth’s walk, but keeps up as he circles around him. Without even zooming in, those watching know the newcomer as none other than the famed Reborn, former Sun Arcobaleno but still the world’s greatest hitman. He doesn’t say a word to his once student but his hands move quickly over him.
Taking a total of ten seconds, he completely redresses the Tenth in a new suit - white and clean as freshly fallen snow. He manages to tame the Tenth’s hair, removing all the twigs and leaves and trash that got trapped in there. With a wet towel, he wipes off the accumulated filth on the Tenth’s face, snapping his teeth when the Tenth lets out an annoyed whine. Finally, he sets down a pair of steel toed, wing tipped shoes for the Tenth to step into. All this was done as the Tenth continued his walk. It would have put any quick change Vegas act to shame.
The Tenth arrives at the gates of the Insolenza compound, perfectly coiffed and properly looking like a Mafia Boss. For the past five days, the head family’s bodyguards were inundated with news of the Tenth’s easy progress towards them. So when they finally laid their eyes on him… There was little they could do beyond standing aside, parting before him like the Red Sea did for Moses. The Tenth nods agreeably and invites himself right in.
Vittorio Alessandro Romano di Insolenza stood waiting at the steps to his front door. He sees the Tenth coming and he meets him halfway, holding out a sheaf of papers in his trembling hand. It’s the treaty that the Tenth sent to him awhile back, the first Vongola men visited. Of course, the Insolenza had torn up every single one. It was just this morning, when Romano sent a screaming call to his underbosses and demanded they find him a copy, that they got one in tact. (The truth is that a wiser underling sent a sheepish email requesting a copy from a bemused Hana Kurokawa, the head of the Vongola legal department.)
“Here, just take it. Take it already. And leave. Leave, damn you!” The Insolenza boss spits out, pulling in short, shallow breaths.
“Of course, but I should sign the treaty first, right?” The Tenth smiles, smooth and gentle as silk.
His former enemy jerks his head forward in an attempt to nod. It looks more like he’s having a seizure. Not that anything he does really matters at this point. It’s all just formalities. That doesn’t keep the Tenth from relishing every second. He takes his time patting his pockets, looking for a pen, before a bodyguard shyly offers one. Then, he spends even more time reading through the document as if the Insolenza boss had any audacity left to change something on the sly. But once five excruciating minutes pass, the Tenth signs the treaty with fancy flourish added to his name.
“There. That should do it,” he announces.
A veritable tsunami of relief washes over the gathered crowd.
“Please leave,” the Insolenza boss murmurs, just a heartbeat away from collapsing on the ground.
The Tenth gives him an arch look. “You know… Your men are impressive, I’ll grant you that. I look forward to working with you.”
The Insolenza boss straight up stares - jaw hanging loose - at the young boss who single handedly terrorized and demoralized his men. Tsunayoshi Sawada di Vongola had just won a war without shedding a single drop of blood, yet at the same time bleeding his enemies of all resources and any will to fight. He won a war by barely striking back, only lifting his hands to move something physically out of his way. He won a war by letting everyone take a good, long, hard look at what exactly he’s capable of.
To hear a compliment - earnest and sincere - from someone like that, well… Romano thinks it wouldn’t be so hard to work with him.
“But you gotta stop dumping radioactive waste in the water.”
“Right, sure.”
The Tenth chuckles - a raspy, rattling sound. “You should come to dinner. We’ll iron out the details. And you’re welcome to take a car or even fly over. Not everyone loves a good hike like me.”
Romano chokes on his spit as something warm trickles down his legs. It’s piss. He just pissed himself. Merda.
Without waiting for a response, the Tenth spins on his heel, tucking the treaty into his suit jacket, and walks out the front gates. The newly allied Insolenza family can only watch as he makes his way down the path at an even, unhurried pace.
Half an hour later finds Tsuna far from the Insolenza manor, strolling into downtown Monopoli. He swings by a nearby cafe, where a plate of biscotti and a fresh cup of espresso sit on the counter in a takeout bag.
“Oh good, you got my order!” He says brightly.
The barista gives him a funny look. “Zio, the app says that you ordered this from Rieti?”
“Yep, I just came down here to pick it up. Thanks!” With that, Tsuna grabs his food and walks away.
He takes maybe ten steps from the cafe before that same black Porsche parks itself in front of him. The door opens automatically and Tsuna climbs right in, careful not to spill his drink.
Reborn looks him over, lifting a slim, single brow. “Dame-Tsuna, we have espresso at home.”
“Sure. But I heard good things about this place.” Tsuna grins, sharp and cheeky and boundless with joy.
They laugh the whole way home.

WIP Wednesday
It's Wednesday again and that means WIP time!
Tagging @scalecallerpeak @sniperviper @thetinyshiloh @sigma-el @eatthatsweetroll @yansurnummu @tunarath and whoever wants to join in!
Featuring a snippet of chapter two of First Impressions. It's probably going to change drastically at a certain point, but it's worth sharing still cause I think it's great.
---
While Fethis mulled over her answer Teldryn also began to wonder what he got himself into. Surely this woman wasn’t some harebrained adventurer who jumped head first into danger. The way she held herself, the worn look of her armor, it all told of someone who knew their way around danger. He did, however, fail to properly question her about her reasons for coming to this place. Was it really wealth she was searching for? Or was there an ulterior motive to all of this?
Solstheim has barely been a blip on the map for a good few decades since the mines dried up. No one but the stubborn and poor and local stayed here. Those who couldn’t afford to pack up and leave survived on these ashy beaches. Those who first came to this island for a new life were clinging onto that original hope that brought them to this place. Barely anything exciting happened here beyond the occasional scuffle with reavers and peaceful meeting with the Skaal up north.
So what ‘source’ did Yera have that said something interesting was going on this island? Why bring yourself to a nothing island?
All good questions he should’ve asked before agreeing to… whatever Yera was going to drag him into. The casual way she handled coin and her confident aura threw him off and he scolded himself for this lapse in concentration. By the time he came back into the conversation Fethis and Yera were done.
“I appreciate the info you’ve shared. If I find anything interesting out there I’ll be sure to bring it back here,” Yera said before turning toward his direction. “Find any good maps yet?”
“This one is the best so far,” Teldryn answered. “Missing a few caves but nothing serious enough to pass over.”
“Perfect, we’ll buy this one.” Again, Yera passed the coin and the two of them left with a decent map and some other miscellaneous supplies.
“Fethis mentioned something about a Telvanni Tower and some wizard named Neloth. What can you tell me about this?”
“Neloth?” Teldryn exclaimed. “He told you about that old wizard?”
“Oh? Is this someone worth visiting?”
“It’s a possibility,” Teldryn answered. “He’s been on this island longer than anyone at Raven Rock. I don’t have half a clue what he’s researching or why he’s been here so long, but he could be useful. If… we can get an audience with him.”
“You make that sound difficult,” Yera said. “He doesn’t like visitors?” “No Telvanni Master likes visitors. They’d rather stay holed up in their Towers doing whatever wizards do for the last thousand years. If he’s kept to tradition like I last remember, he’s going to turn us away before we even get in the front door.”
“But do you think that if we needed to get some information, he’d be someone worth going to?” Yera insisted.
"If we must,” Teldryn replied. “If we can convince the mer, then it's possible he knows more about the island if anything is happening on this island. I've lived here for decades and nothing exciting has happened since the mines dried up.”
“A pity that is,” Yera commented. “Heard that the mines here were rich with ebony. Strange that they dried up so fast.”
“Nothing strange about it. Just bad luck and an old miner who keeps insisting there's still more of it down there. Old Crescius will tell anyone who'll listen that the East Empire Company is behind all this and it's a conspiracy.”
At this, Teldryn felt a hand around his forearm and looked down to see Yera smiling. Oh no, that could only mean a few things to an adventurer who described herself as ‘foolish and reckless’. He was not doing this again!
“Want to find out if it really is a conspiracy? 100 gold that we're able to find something.”
“Absolutely not, sera!” Teldryn objected, tugging his arm out of her grasp. “To say nothing of those mines being dry for nearly two centuries, what's to say it won't crash down around our ears and we die a slow and boring death of a cave-in?”
She was still smiling, and he thinks she enjoyed him objecting to her idea. What in the world was he getting himself into?
“And what's to say the opposite? Maybe there is something lurking in the mines that caused it to close off and no one's been able to find out. Maybe just one last look around will be our luck instead.”
“Says someone who sounds like they want a cave-in. I thought you hired me to be a guide?” Teldryn asked.
“As you are, and I am putting my trust in you right now that you're the mer for the job and will keep me safe. So how is an old and empty mine anymore dangerous than a cave we'll explore later outside the Bulwark?”
He wasn't going to fall for this, this had to be a kind of test. His judgment couldn’t have been this wrong to tie himself to someone willing to go blindly - literally! - into an old mining shaft abandoned for nearly a century just for fun. No, he was putting his foot down like he's done before and holding his ground.
“If you need me to spell it out for you, I will,” he started. “Who knows how long those walls have eroded away and are structurally unsound at this point. And if we ignore that, I'm sure all those nooks and crannies are filled with all sorts of skeever or whatever beasts crawled their way in from the outside. Should we get in a cave-in but survive then we’d have no way of getting back out on account of the fact there’s only one way inside. You can try to convince me, sera, but there is no way I am getting anywhere near those mines or Azura help me-”

WIP Wednesday Friday: revisiting an old fic.
There are several WIPs I'm working on at the moment, but the one that's been demanding all my attention is something I never thought I'd write: a sequel for my very first fic Never Have I Ever (Been Myself).
Like I'm sure many fic writers' first work, this story has a special place in my heart. It's the thing that motivated me to write, and the story that probably spent the longest time in my head before I actually made the effort to put it into words.
But it's also so clearly a first story. The pacing is clumsy, the plotting very simple, and the prose... actually, I quite like the prose. But were I to write the same fic today, it would likely read very differently.
Never Have I Ever features many of the themes and tropes I return to over and over again in later fics: it's a human rock musician/actor AU playing with age gap and wealth gap dynamics. It's deeply mired in British culture and British pop culture. It's a bit of fluff, a bit of angst, and a guaranteed happy ending.
And, weirdly, I wanted to return to it. So what I've been working on is a long-ish one shot that has BAFTA-winning actor Aziraphale Fell attend his very first rock music festival in order to surprise guitarist Crowley.
Anyway, here's a snippet of pure fluff:
‘Can’t believe you’re actually sleeping in a tent,’ Crowley said, as he lowered himself onto the fleece blanket he’d spread out to cover the crinkly polyester lining. ‘I’ve been reliably informed that’s the thing to do at events such as this.’ Crowley threw his head back in laughter and lifted himself up on his elbows, stretched out like a mermaid on a rock. ‘Have you ever been to a festival before?’ ‘Of course I have!’ ‘Glyndebourne doesn’t count. Nor do the Proms.’ ‘Ah. No, in that case.’ ‘Couldn’t you have booked a hotel room in Shrewsbury or something?’ ‘I could have.’ Crowley didn’t ask why he hadn’t. Ever since they’d met, Aziraphale had been desperate for new experiences. And oh, how he’d indulged him, with an enthusiasm and passion Aziraphale had never possessed, not even when he’d been in his thirties himself. He slipped his wellies off his feet and crouched down next to Crowley. The ground was hard underneath his knees and elbows, despite the fleece blanket, and he let himself be wrapped up in the pointy angles of Crowley’s body instead, which, paradoxically were all the more soothing. ‘You were marvellous on stage, you know that?’ ‘You’ve mentioned it a few times, but it never hurts to hear again.’ ‘You were. Even the people who had no idea who you were were singing along by the end.’ ‘And you?’ ‘I always sing along, you know that.’ ‘Wish I’d seen you.’ ‘I’m glad you didn’t. I meant to surprise you, and I managed, despite the best efforts of your villainous security person.’ ‘Torben’s awesome. D’you know he can open a beer bottle with his eye socket?’ ‘I’m not at all surprised to hear that.’ ‘This is by far the biggest festival we’ve played, like, ever. The last one had us sleeping in tents.’ ‘You’re not sleeping in tents here?’ ‘Oh no, we’re staying in this caravan thing, which is pretty nice. Comfortable. Got to share a bed with Ana but that’s fine. They call it a trailer, though.’ Aziraphale laughed softly into the scintillating warmth of Crowley’s neckline. ‘I’m aware of trailers, my dear. Quite familiar with them, in fact.’ ‘Alright, Mr Hollywood Big Name Film Star.’ Aziraphale sighed and snuggled deeper into Crowley’s arms. He smelled lovely, like herbal shampoo and the cigarette he’d surreptitiously smoked on the walk to the tent. The chatter of people outside merged with the deep rumble of Crowley’s breathing, and the quiet beating of his heart against his chest. And as if this symphony of comfort couldn’t get more perfect, it began to rain. Gentle drops, irregular and insistent, drumming down on the tent above. It was frightfully romantic.

WIP Wednesday - Blood in the Wine
I have another snippet of Chapter 3 to join the countless other snippets. We’re currently at 11.5k words, and it ain’t getting any shorter.
Notes and (unedited) preview under the cut:
I’ve finished the interior tour (as far as Tav is getting right now).
I’ve introduced the characters that need to be introduced (all those who need to be introduced right now).
I’ve learned that I need to go back and edit Chapter 2 because things came to my mind that didn’t before. They’re minor edits, but I will let everyone know what those changes are when I make them.
I’ve made myself crazy by making a map of the abbey as I work through this chapter. Does it make sense? Is it realistic in the terms of its layout? FOR THIS STORY, YES. I mapped it out as best I could with what research I’ve done. I can post that, too, when the time comes - if others would like to see it.
In terms of feeling inspired and motivated, I’m PUMPED. It’s one of those stories that I might translate to something more original when all is said and done. Shop it around… quit my job… you know. The Delusional Dream.
I’m totally not trying to avoid doing work while I type this out, but I’m shutting up now. Here is the snippet:
—-
Tav stopped at a glass cabinet that housed a number of artifacts. It was the first cabinet of many spread throughout the library; waist high and wide with a carved walnut base, a gold-leafed illuminated Book of Hours was open and on display alongside a chalice, a book dictating law, and a gold scepter.
There was no placard to tell her the significance of each item, and Tav suspected they were purposefully left out so that the Archivist could have an excuse to spread his knowledge.
The lock looked simple enough to bypass - were any monk handy with a hairpin.
“What a wealth of knowledge and artifacts,” she said, moving from the display to peruse the nearest collection of books on a shelf - philosophical writings through the ages, judging from their spines.
“Yes! Outside of donations, I’m not sure how the abbot came to acquire these pieces, but we are very blessed!” Rolan stood with pride and beamed. “As you can imagine, what we’ve obtained are some of the House of Hope’s most prized possessions.”
Tav backed up to stare at the mezzanine platforms that comprised the upper floor. Unlike the books below, the books above had their shelves secured with sashes of chain and locks.
“I’ve heard those books contain naughty images,” Astarion supplied with a smirk.
“They do not!” Rolan swiftly corrected.
“As if you’ve looked through them all...”
“I’ve looked through most, and while some do contain controversial ideas, a majority are rare or extremely fragile and shouldn’t be taken from the shelf willy-nilly.”

Yet he also admitted that his other business interests made things complicated. Amazon and the space company Blue Origin maintain contracts with the federal government worth billions of dollars annually. Government regulators make decisions daily that can affect their vast fortunes. The Trump administration is moving aggressively to reshape the government and private industry in line with the president's priorities. The media has served as a particular target.
"You can see my wealth and business interests as a bulwark against intimidation, or you can see them as a web of conflicting interests. Only my own principles can tip the balance from one to the other," Bezos wrote in October.
Distrust grows in newsroom
Since then, however, he has given $1 million toward Trump's inauguration fund. In January, Bezos sat on the dais with other tech titans as the president was sworn in. And on Wednesday evening, he had dinner with Trump, the president told The Spectator.
Many Post staffers have questioned the motives for Bezos' warmer relations with Trump. Some have been more public than others.
In early January, Shipley rejected a cartoon by Pulitzer Prize-winning staffer Ann Telnaes, whose proposed sketch showed Bezos alongside other tech and media billionaires abasing themselves before Trump. Telnaes quit, telling NPR, "Of course these are businesses, and I understand that. But they own a newspaper and they have an obligation, frankly, to protect the free press."
Another spike of subscription cancellations followed in the week after Telnaes quit and Shipley's decision became public - at a volume many thousands above typical levels.
This story marks the first time that this cancellation wave has been reported publicly.
Since Bezos' announcement Wednesday, some of the Post's competitors have capitalized on the news. The Guardian sent a fundraising pitch to readers, saying its fate will never be dictated by a billionaire owner. The New York Times' opinions editor Kathleen Kingsbury declared, "our audience is looking to us for insight, discernment and leadership in some of the most chaotic and uncertain moments in the modern era," in a note announcing veteran Times journalist David Leonhardt would become editorial director of the section.

The Ultimate Study Schedule: Strategies for Online Advanced IELTS Preparation Success

Preparing for the IELTS exam can be a challenging endeavor, especially when aiming for a high band score. An online advanced IELTS preparation course provides a wealth of resources and guidance, but creating an effective study schedule is essential to maximizing your success. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you craft the perfect study schedule for your online course.
1. Assess Your Current Level and Goals
Before you dive into scheduling, take some time to assess your current English proficiency level and set clear goals for your IELTS score. Take a diagnostic test to identify your strengths and weaknesses in each section: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Establishing specific, measurable goals—such as aiming for a band score of 7.5—will help you tailor your study schedule effectively.
2. Understand the Course Structure
Familiarize yourself with the course syllabus and materials. Note the key topics covered in the online advanced IELTS preparation course, such as grammar, vocabulary, and test strategies. Pay attention to any assignments, quizzes, or deadlines. This understanding will help you allocate sufficient time to each component of the course.
3. Break It Down by Sections
Divide your study schedule into sections that align with the IELTS format. Allocate specific time blocks for each section—listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Here’s a suggested breakdown:
Listening: Focus on practice tests, note-taking strategies, and understanding various accents.
Reading: Work on skimming and scanning techniques, vocabulary building, and practicing different question types.
Writing: Practice both Task 1 (describing visuals) and Task 2 (essay writing), focusing on structure, coherence, and vocabulary.
Speaking: Engage in speaking practice with peers or use language exchange apps to simulate real test conditions.
4. Set Realistic Time Blocks
Consider your daily schedule and identify dedicated study times. Aim for 1-3 hours of focused study each day, depending on your availability and other commitments. Here’s a sample weekly structure:
Monday: Listening practice (1 hour), Writing Task 1 practice (1 hour)
Tuesday: Reading practice (1 hour), Speaking practice with a partner (1 hour)
Wednesday: Writing Task 2 practice (1 hour), Vocabulary building (30 minutes)
Thursday: Listening practice with past papers (1 hour), Reading comprehension exercises (1 hour)
Friday: Mock test covering all sections (2 hours)
Saturday: Review errors from the mock test and targeted practice (2 hours)
Sunday: Relax and engage in light English activities, like watching films or reading books.
5. Incorporate Breaks and Flexibility
To avoid burnout, incorporate short breaks into your study sessions. Use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique—study for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. This approach keeps your mind fresh and focused. Additionally, allow for flexibility in your schedule to accommodate unexpected events or changes in your routine.
6. Track Your Progress
Regularly assess your progress by tracking completed tasks and areas that need improvement. Consider keeping a study journal where you note down what you learned, challenges faced, and strategies that worked. This reflection not only boosts your motivation but also helps you adjust your schedule based on your evolving needs.
7. Engage with Course Resources
Make the most of your online course by actively engaging with all available resources. Participate in discussion forums, attend live webinars, and complete any supplementary exercises. Allocate time in your schedule to review these materials, as they often provide valuable insights and strategies.
8. Stay Motivated and Accountable
To maintain motivation, set smaller milestones along the way, such as completing a module or achieving a specific score on practice tests. Consider partnering with a study buddy to hold each other accountable. Regularly sharing progress and challenges can keep you both motivated and focused.
Conclusion
Crafting a perfect study schedule for your online advanced IELTS preparation course is key to achieving your desired band score. By assessing your current level, understanding the course structure, breaking down study sessions, and incorporating flexibility and accountability, you can create a tailored plan that suits your needs. Remember, consistency and dedication are crucial. With the right schedule, you’ll be well on your way to IELTS success!

Reebok has officially entered the race for digital fitness supremacy. The athletic footwear and clothing company announced Wednesday that it's launching a new subscription app, Reebok Fitness. Users will be able to access workouts with trainers, record runs and walks with a GPS tracker, find nutrition and wellness tips— including guided meditations—participate in challenges, and talk with other users in the community. And of course, there will also be deals on Reebok gear and ways to shop within the app. If you’re thinking, “Wait, another new fitness and wellness app?” we feel you. Nike Training Club and Nike Run Club, Alo Moves, Lululemon Studio, and Adidas Running, are just some of the notable athletic footwear and apparel brands that have companion lifestyle and workout apps. There are also the Pelotons of the world that started as digital fitness brands, but then expanded into selling gear (including a fitness content and merchandise partnership with Lululemon). And don’t forget the fact that it seems like every gym, Pilates studio, and popular trainer these days has their own app or digital platform. “Research consistently demonstrates that people who have fun with their workouts and feel part of a community are more motivated to stick with their fitness routines.” Richard Sale, CEO of Reebok Fitness app You can thank the pandemic for the initial digital fitness boom, which is now not so much a trend as the norm. Plus, other brands have shown that getting in on the digital fitness landscape is a great way to build brand loyalty if you’re in the business of selling sneakers and athletic wear. So, yeah, if you make exercise gear, it makes sense to have a wellness app these days, even if it does put you in direct competition with Nike. So what makes Reebok different? In Reebok Fitness, you'll find fitness and wellness classes, tracking, nutrition and lifestyle info, leaderboards, challenges, and forums that appear in most other apps—though not every app has all of the above in the same place. Reebok stresses that a sense of fun, community, and its wholistic approach is what makes it stand out. “Research consistently demonstrates that people who have fun with their workouts and feel part of a community are more motivated to stick with their fitness routines,” Richard Sale, CEO of the Reebok Fitness app, said in an email. “To support this, Reebok Fitness app offers a dynamic platform that encourages active living through engaging group challenges and interactive community leaderboards. Our platform also provides a wealth of nutrition and wellness resources, ensuring a holistic approach to health.” A subscription to the Reebok Fitness app will cost $99.99 per year (and you get a seven-day free trial). If you're a Reebok customer, you can receive 40 percent off the app—just log into your account and purchase the app through the Reebok site where you'll then receive a code for the discount. The app is available for purchase for everyone through Reebok.com.
