I'm in your sys server but I was wondering why you don't allow or participate in source mate searches and canon calls? I was too nervous to ask you directly and thought this was a good way to ask >:

This has been sitting in our inbox for a while. Sorry about that. The topic makes a lot of us anxious because the answer to this sometimes gets a negative reaction. It's gonna be a sorta longer but simple explanation. But it's gonna have a bit of sys disc0urse in it. I am writing this assuming you mean alters who share memories of the same source / source timelines or whatever.

"Canon calls" and "source mate searches" just seem ridiculous to us, for one. If it's something that comforts you, as a system, go for it. Do what you find safe and comforting for your introject members. We just often don't see the point because, in reality, these people you find aren't actually your "canon mates". You didn't know these alters before. They're what I like to call shadows. They're shadows of friends and family members you remember from your pseudo memories. The connection you feel to them isn't a connection to this person, it's a connection of people you remember. The people you meet just fit their shape. They've taken the form of these people you know but their purpose isn't to you and never was. Alters don't form to search for source mates and find connections. They exist to help the host and system function. To have a role in traumatized brain. Alters who participate in source mate searches and canon calls are trying to be comforted with something they find familiar, and that's more than okay, we just aren't comfortable with it in our spaces. So we don't allow it. We used to sort of participate in things like this when we didn't fully understand systems and how they worked (More answering people's searches, not searching ourselves). When we first got diagnosed and joined spaces we thought were safe, a lot of us made mistakes of getting close to people and it ended in hurt, especially as a system who is polyfragmented and autistic with a lot of fictive members. Of course, it's not the only reason. Another pretty obvious reason is some members of our system are naïve and, even if we don't search for source mates, sometimes they try to find us. We've been in situations where manipulation occurs. Example, System poses as a alter's source brother or something. Said alter will be more likely to say yes to them to a lot of different things. This opens a lot of negative doors, especially for younger members. We've had situations where alters pose as these friends or family members and admit they were faking or just drop off the face of the earth as well. All these scenarios hurt. And, being a system means you're already pretty traumatized. So why allow spaces where these situations may happen? So we don't.

This is a personal preference and has been for years. We don't participate in searches and we don't allow them in our spaces. We're very careful about what system spaces we are in and where we talk about things regarding us as a system. So there you go. In our opinion, it's dangerous. Of course, do what you will and what you find comfort in with your own system, just be aware of the dangers and hurt that may come with these experiences.
