Updates on Secret Origins

To keep things from getting too cluttered, I decided separating the Origins universe from Mystery Kids might work better in the long run; if anyone wants to follow me on @secret-origins-crossover then please feel free to!

This is mostly going into a quick, not too in depth version of what to expect for Secret Origins and the main arcs within it! To briefly explain, it is a joint crossover between Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, Danny Phantom, American Dragon: Jake Long, and Miraculous Ladybug. The Secret Origins arc is meant to be a five-part prequel of how the characters met, and will expand unto a main series with more shenanigans.

Arc Overview

[UNTITLED] - Part 1 of 5: An unexpected family vacation leads to Danny and the rest of the Fentons spending a week in Paris, France; things take a sudden turn when he begins realizing there are more heroes than he thoughts- now teaming up with Ladybug and Chat Noir, Danny is likely in over his head (though that absolutely will not stop him from discovering something much bigger is happening.

[DETAILS PENDING] Parts 2-5: These will focus on the main character introductions, with part five being the final installation- which pans into the second arc.

I love, love, love what the anime did with that final shot. Kana's acting as a child was like "the dazzling and shining sun". In the manga, I always thought the the title, "Sun", was simply meant to be a reference to that.

But the anime takes it a step further and suggests it's meant to be about both, because in that final shot we see sparkles shining off Akane's eyes... the same sparkles that were shown in that initial shot where Kana's acting is called sun-like.

I also adored the way they elevated those last Aqua/Akane pages.

The anime clearly parallels Sayahime's pain at the war with Akane's pain at accidentally making Kana retreat into herself. She silently apologizes to Kana, just like Sayahime must be silently apologizing to those being hurt due to the fights.

Thanks to the manga drawn by the OnK Anime staff, we know those are Saya's quarters. So who would likely be the one to comfort her in those times of need?

Touki, her fiancé. And who comes to comfort Akane?

Aqua, Akane's very own Touki 😭

The anime didn't have to go that hard, but they deliberately set up this parallel. It isn't only that Akane and Aqua are dressed as Saya and Touki, they are behaving the part, too. Aqua is there to reassure her that she did nothing wrong, and to have her back so she can have the result she wishes for. Just like Touki with Saya.

Tobin: He's done nothing, and he's going to have to start doing something quickly. We knew we were taking a risk. We felt comfortable that we could help him through some of the challenges he's had in the past, and we're going to continue to try to help him. But this is professional football, and you have to take accountability, and you have to be accountable to your teammates, your coaches, and the team that you're playing for, and he has to figure that out. He's got to figure that out fast. He's a very talented player, and we knew that there were risks in taking him. We knew there were rewards in taking him. We know what both of those are. We're hoping for the rewards. We're giving him the resources he needs to get to those rewards, but at the end of the day, you can't want it more for somebody than they want it for themselves. And we're hoping that Jermaine figures that out.

In my Batgirl readthrough, Cass is now in Blüdhaven, with Alfred supporting her, rather than in Gotham with Babs.

While they both provided her with auditory interfaces to their computer systems, Alfred is doing it ... with a lot less ableism, I must say.

The computer was "designed for your ... specific needs," with one-button access to an audio interface for Bruce and Dick's files. There are no comments about "until you learn to read," or anything else snide. Instead it's mixed in with all her new base's OTHER cool features, like a private subway tunnel access point, and biometric security system.

Cass is PROUD to be recording notes with her new portable audio recorder! Alfred only teases SLIGHTLY when she talks about taking a call from her new "snitch!" (She's been trying to learn more casual language.)

It's really nice.
