Water snail sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing. My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch. The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). Magical Mystery Snails

I did not put watersnails into the Tarndanya pond. Fill a pond with tap water and you will find out just how much is still living in it, barely supressed. Algae, snail eggs, who knows what.

When I emptied the pond to move I found three snails clinging to a rock, and I put them in the jar of fish. I took six snails out of the jar.

The jar arrived today. Putting them all into the new pond makes it a proper ecosystem, the better for the water quality when it all properly settles. All kinds of wildlife will come to drink. Dragonflies will lay their eggs here, and mosquitoes. (The little mosquito fish don't actually eat larvae- or not enough. Not so much of a problem in Tarndanya but here there are mosquito- borne diseases. More fish must be found.) Maybe frogs (this would be bad because the Denizen is a predator).

Bees drinking on the island, one circled me and followed me around the garden, twice trying to get into my hair on the crown of my head. I have my answer after the Valborg- Bealltainn petitions.

Vi presento “lumachino dagli occhi belli” 🤗 È un gasteropode della specie Physa marmorata, arrivata nel mio acquario con le piante. Turtle maintenance

Things I do not like about keeping Vincent the Macquarie River turtle in an aquarium:

watching them crash into the glass. This tank appears particularly refractive and reflective to me, imagine living in it :(

dangerous giving them enough direct sunlight to bask. Bright bulbs :(

need for a filter, which always scares them when it's turned on (if you have the right balance of plants and animals in the pond you will not need a filter).

Whether it's tanks or ponds water needs to be changed periodically. This completely sucks inside the house.

Things I do like:

can see the light shine through their toe- webs.

ideal plastron- viewing.

can observe them sleeping.

They will grow up, we will move somewhere where I can have a bigger/ second pond. I guess it's going ok, I put some mosquito fish in, plants, and there's no algae to speak of. I stood and thought before the golden mystery snail tank in the shop yesterday, but I'm not sure yet. I miss those tiny black watersnails that just turned up when I first kept Hamburger's pond. How do I get those snails again?

Looking forward to the pond revolution when a mostly- vegetarian moves in, rediscover the planting. Keeping baby Vinnie away from the larger and predatory Hamburger the eastern longneck for now, but one day Vincent will be so much bigger than Ham!
