The most exquisite stripes on shells belong to the Nerite family.

Neritidae, common name the nerites, is a taxonomic family of small to medium-sized saltwater and freshwater snails which have a gill and a distinctive operculum. The family Neritidae includes marine genera such as Nerita, marine and freshwater genera such as Neritina, and freshwater and brackish water genera such as Theodoxus.

The common name "nerite" as well as the family name Neritidae and the genus name Nerita, are derived from the name of Nerites, who was a sea god in Greek mythology.

Fishtank introduction part 4 of 13

Now we've reached the fishtank shelf.

Starting with the top shelf on the left.

It's another 25l tank, like the two on the table.

And its inhabited by Blue Dream Shrimp.

I've made other posts about this one before.

But what I've always forgotten to mention were the other little guys that life in there.

Teeny tiny neritina looking snails! Theodoxus dalmaticus, to be exact.

Its right there in the middle, on the pale leaf.

Unlike Neritina, they do reproduce in regular fishtanks, even if they do it very slowly.

They only get to max. 1,5 cm, so they stay really small.

(gotta clean up again, there's moss everywhere, lol)

Ok... I found batman snail... He’s gone to ground in the back under the root ball of the pothos. After not seeing him AT ALL for over a week since I put him in there I was worried he might be dead but I mean I gave him a good poke and he’s definitely well-stickied on to the floor so... just doing some good ol Bruce Wayne secluded brooding I suppose. Kinda bizarre tho, I’ve never had a snail absolutely refuse to leave a spot like that before.

Aaaa I realised I haven’t talked about my new family members yet! MEET MY BEAUTIFUL NEW SNAILS, King the faunus sp. bicolour and three nameless neritina pulligera!! I’ve longed to have snails for such a long time because I had giant african land snails yeeears ago and I miss them ;_;
