Ideas and feedback welcome.#The core idea behind this AU is that LWJ goes to study with the Yunmeng Jiang sect instead of JC and WWX going to Cloud Recess#But why? Well I imagine Lan Xichen set it up to give LWJ a challenge (more social than skill based) and LWJ rose to it (begrudgingly)#Sort of a 'You've mastered so many Lan techniques but Other Sects have styles that are worth learning.' set up.#Lan Qiren agrees mostly on the basis that...well it's LWJ. Yunmeng Jiang is unruly but LWJ is beyond that riff-raff. He'll rise above it.#This is the story of a boy who thrives on routine and rules spending time in a place that is his apparent antithesis.#Also it is so warm there. He is used to it being cold and what do you MEAN just take off some of my layers?#I just want to see him struggle and flail in many situations. And get him in Jiang Purple. Is that so wrong of me?#(Soaking wet JC is part of my 'JC was born to swim; forced to hold a sword' agenda. My dearest Witch, if you have spell vessels (like wards, amulets, talismans) that are running down every 1-2 weeks and you are fully recharging them with your personal energy, and subsequently you feel exhausted and have almost no energy for anything else,
you are not weak at magic;
I will bet you that you are choosing the nuclear option of high-octane megafuel supernova magic where you pump fast-burning, high-intensity energy into vessels likely not designed for long-term energy storage.
Because repeatedly exhausting yourself is not a good way to increase your magical endurance, I think it is likely that your spellcasting strategy has locked you into a cycle of near constant high-energy output with no reserves left over to undertake techniques that actually allow you to get stronger, nor any reserves left to build long-lasting magical vessels that conserve the power you give them.
#you can brute force a lot of things with magic#if your technique is poorly you can overcome it by pumping in additional power#if your vessel is unsuitable you can overcome that by saturating it in excess power#if you're able to recharge your vessels that work how you want them to work for a short period of time you are obviously working with power#but are you building sustainable aqueducts that channel water where you need it to go all season long#or are you periodically forcing an act of god to flood the farmland#both of these things can take the same amount of energy#but only one you will have to do over and over and over once the flood water recedes

I find it so funny when the dragon riders get competitive (especially in the TV shows) and think they can beat Hiccup at anything when it comes to dragons
like dude. Come on. He literally discovered the techniques they use. He's been riding and handling dragons the longest out of anyone. Hell he taught EVERYONE how to do it in the first place. He is a master of his craft.

Meet my rito OC, Nerisa!
She's based on a Snowy/Wandering Albatross and uses her large wingspan to glide nonstop over the ocean to keep a lookout for lost souls at sea.
Because she spends a lot of time in the air, like her animal counterpart, she has a difficult time landing.
She also has a crush on Penn
#my art!#rito oc#a friend pointed out I have a penchant for drawing big/tall characters and yes. yes i do C:<#Throwing more trivia your way! *THWACK*#they are one of the largest birds with a wingspan thats 11-12ft in length! they can go months and years without ever touching land!#they use their big wings like sails for long flights with a technique called dynamic soaring to help reserve energy on those long flights#one albatross was tracked and recorded flying for 46 days and covering over 1000 miles!#they feed on fish and squid and can even hunt at night 👀#they also have whats called a salt gland to help them get rid of the saline from ingesting sea water#theres 20000 birds in the world and their status is considered vulnerable#they have no natural predators but their populations are dwindling due to things like climate change and ocean pollution 😭
