The Kelpie is a shape shifting water spirit in Irish and Scottish legends, who most frequently appears out of water as a black horse-like creature that will drag unwary travelers down into the cold waters

Illustration of a Caribbean mermaid from Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World.
In Jamaican folklore, the River Mumma is a Water spirit who protects the rivers. The fish are her children. It’s said that if you find her belongings—such as a gold comb or jewellery—on the river bank, you should leave them where they are, or else!

Monster Girl October Tarot day 23: Undine from the novella Undine as the King of Cups!
When the well of the kingdom is opened, the water spirit Undine returns to kill her former beloved by drowning him with her tears: an overwhelming image of the cups suit's emotional and water imagery that makes Undine a perfect king for the suit!
(One of my most time-crunch drawings of the month too; only a week left!)

Naiad 2024.03.22 I had this one as a wip for MONTHS so there's a disconnection in stylization with how I currently do/explore my art. I've never been one to fully hold on to a definitive style because I get bored and like to try stuff so lmao It's not any of the particular naiads because I really didn't think much of it at the time, but now I might actually want to :') too many ideas too little energy/time I really liked how it turned out (though I'm sure i couldve detailed more but got tired) and how I do continue to work with the golden texture that HAS been present in most of my digital pieces. Girl said she'd make that ps stamp and then never dropped it lol

Nokken/Nixie! Sigyn variant
Tumblr media
Drew this on a whim, but I made another variant of my Myth! Sigyn design. Though this time I based this design variant off of a Nokken/Nixie which is a water spirit in Germanic folklore that lures travelers, woman, and children to their death by enchanting them with a fiddle(though they aren’t always hostile spirits in some tellings). Nokken are mainly male, but some sources said they can be female too(they are also shapeshifters and in some versions present themselves as a white horse as well).
I tried not to make her look too much like my main Myth!Sigyn design. Though both are aquatic based. When it comes to Nokken! Sigyn’s personality, however, she more hostile and cunningly manipulative.
When it comes to her relationship with Loki. The two of them met when Loki got lost in Sigyn's territory. Then Sigyn saw them and was like, " Hey, you're really pretty, and I see that you're lost. Do you want to chill in my bog and listen to my fiddle?"
Loki surprisingly agreed, and from there, the two began to frequently meet up falling in love in the process. That being said, Loki is the only one to have ever made it out of Sigyn's territory alive. 😬

"Of course mermaids exist. Or, to be more precise, of course water spirits and magical marine beings of every kind are real and numerous and, in certain circumstances, somewhat dangerous. ...The modern reports of real encounters with mermaids or other water-spirits, such as two from Zimbabwe, one from South Africa, three from northeastern India, and so on ...are so ingenuous, well-attested, and credible that only a brute would refuse to believe them [and] there is a real moral imperative in not dismissing such tales as lies or delusions." - David Bentley Hart

29 things I love about Michael: Day 4
Michael’s love for water. In his own books Moonwalk and Dancing the Dream as well as Honoring The Child Spirit in Conversation with Michael Jackson you learn how much respect and love he has for water/bodies of water. Lakes, rivers, beaches and the ocean even though he admitted he was a little bit intimidated by the ocean haha.
Quotes on water:
“There is something about our souls that need water… it’s like therapy, it’s like meditation. It’s like soul food for us. We need it” - Michael in Honoring the Child Spirit
“I see Neverland being a lot more water. I want lots more cascades and caves and it needs a lot more water. That’s how I see it. I think water is healing…” - Michael in Honoring the Child Spirit
“It’s like stepping into a river and joining the flow. Every moment in the river has its song. So I stay in the moment and listen” - Michael in Dancing the Dream
“Hold me like the River Jordan” - lyrics to Will You Be There written by Michael
“We are like ripples in the vast ocean of consciousness” - Heaven is Here poem by Michael
“I remember going swimming as a child and making a wish before I jumped into the pool…I wanted to do something special. I’d stretch my arms out, as if I were sending my thoughts right up into space. I’d make my wish, then I’d dive into the water. I’d say to myself, ‘This is my dream. This is my wish,’ every time before I’d dive into the water” -Michael in Moonwalk
I L O V E water. Forreal. I’m a Pisces through and through! I grew up on the island Aruba. So we were in the water often. I lived near the beach. It was great. Water is sacred and spiritual aside from it being refreshing and quenching. And another thing I also love is the fact that he (unconsciously) used water as a spiritual practice (something I found out this year - and something I’ve been doing for quite some time). In his book in Moonwalk he mentioned making wishes before jumping in the water. It is said that water is a conduit and amplifier. Basically a wishing well.
I actually have a small cup of water and medium sized bowl of water on a table (I practice ancestral veneration) and I say my well wishes/gratitude into the bowl of water. I also speak positivity into water before giving it to my plants (and they grow beautifully). I think Michael might’ve heard of Masaru Emoto and his book The Hidden Messages in Water. Emoto is of course not the only one that believes and wrote about the sacredness of water. It’s just one of the many books that comes to mind in the moment.
It’s a really nice thought to know we share the same values/ideas surrounding how amazing water truly is ☺️

It’s Michael’s birthday month and so I’m sharing every day something I love about him. Feel free to join in or use the tag #29thingsMJ I’d love to read what you love about him
