How To Make Journeys Better notes
Have them tell stories! Funny, sad, spooky, myths, anything! Storytelling is great for character building in any regard. How much better would Crowpaw had been if he had been telling ghost stories instead of just whining?
Have them think about trying new things, for shelter and food. They're not home anymore, don't be afraid to introduce some new wildlife! (For better and for worse if you want to add some extra danger, maybe that deer is too nervous to be friendly)
Emphasize the environment, use it to your advantage. Instead of Quick-Time Events, have obstacles they need to think about to overcome. Maybe instead of a dog running at them, there's a massive garden full of pretty flowers... and twolegs. They'll have to consider going around, stealthing it, or blending in.
Have them bond over things. Take Feathertail and Squirrelpaw for example? I'm pretty sure they only have a single interaction if any at all. Have them bond over their dads, or Squip wanting to try new fishy foods that Feathertail can enjoying catching. Have Brambleclaw challenge Crowpaw to a race to bring back water-moss.
Don't emphasize their exhaustion of that their feet hurt. Of course it can be mentioned a few times, anyone walking huge distances is gonna ache and be sleepy... But focus more on what they do WHILE resting. Maybe Tawnypelt is trying her hand at climbing the small tree nearby, maybe is drawing in the sand, have Squirrelpaw make her own silly constellations in the sky, or notice the moon has 'spots'.
Reference their home in a way you feel fits. This one is loose. Maybe Stormfur misses his bed, but... Likes being away from home for a while. Maybe Crowpaw is being quiet because he doesn't want to go back at all. Maybe Brambleclaw is really on edge because he desperately misses his home-comforts and his buddies.
Embrace their boredom. Make them think of things to do. Maybe guessing games, little pop quizzes at each other (fairness of course being sometimes thrown out the window). Maybe have them discuss what they'd do if they were a leader, etc etc.
This one is for extra spice
Make them forget that they're in different Clans. Sparkpaw asks Needlepaw what she wants to do when they get home. Rootspring asks Dovewing if she can help him make more plates for Skyclan's upcoming feast. Tawnypelt stands beside Brambleclaw for a while too long, confused why her Clanmates are telling her to "come on, let's go."

Sparrow/White Family Tree - Mick’s Rewrite
for the sake of de-cluttering the family tree:
cinderlion only have their first litter
sorrelstripe’s mate is undisclosed
speckletail and whitefog/one-eye are no longer sisters
larksong is now stormcloud’s kit- his other parent is undisclosed
other misc. notes:
jayfeather has been moved to a different tree
sandstorm is now spsrrowpelt (halftail) and whitefog’s youngest daughter
longtail and runningwind had a budding interest in one another but runningwind was murdered before it could blossom
longtail and mousefur bonded over the loss of runningwind and even further when they were in the elder’s den. longtail would admit he may have felt romsntic feelings towards her while mousefur kept her perspective under lock and key. nobody knows how she really feels about longtail, but regardless of what it was she cared deeply for him
longtail is intersex and uses he/him pronouns. in a human-esque culture he would identify as nonbinary.
fernsong uses he/him and she/her pronoun. in a human-esque culture she would identify as bigender
sparrowpelt snd his kits carry the cinnamon gene. this also carries on through sandstorm -> leafpool -> lionblaze, skips sorrelstripe and hollytuft (chocolate) and returns with bayshine + myrtlebloom
cinderheart is a cryptic tortie, hence fernsong’s vibrant golden-cream color
lion and holly (both)’s manes are important to their designs so theyre drawn with them.

Honestly, my current favorite idea for the Windclan coup attempt by Mudclaw in my rewrite, is that it would have almost certainly worked if it wasn't for plain opportunism.
Like, Mudclaw's followers were loyal to him, he was a spry aggressive deputy to contrast Tallstar's more passive nature, and that earned him plenty of loyalty, particularly when he was fighting against Shadowclan tooth and claw when Windclan was getting expelled.
So by all right, the announcement that Tall changed his mind last second and made Onewhisker deputy (which was his own decision here, not Starclan's) in private and corroborated by only the Thunderclan leader, a coup should have been a cakewalk for Mud.
Walk into the leaders den, make Onewhisker say that he lied, and reclaim leadership. No one actually thinks fucking Onewhisker would be a good leader, so very limited opposition. Hell, Mud may not have even been planning on killing One, just chase him off the territory.
The only problem was, Onewhisker was related to quite a few cats. And those relatives realized that they were now not only related to the leader, but it was timid, yes-man, 'does what you say if you say it firm enough' Onewhisker. So when Mud goes and tries to question the story and intimidate One, he finds voices of opposition, Cats going to Onestar's defense, much firmer ones.
Basically, Mudclaw was defeated by the power of opportunism and promises of Cronyism/nepotism.
And also Thunderclan, no way in hell was Fire going to let this much of an opportunity just slip by.
Suffice to say, that imposter syndrome was hitting Onestar hard due to knowing just how he lived past that night.

Starting Allegiances
these are what the allegiances look like for the day rusty meets graypaw, bluestar, and lionheart for the first time!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i stayed up until 5am finishing this last night, because not only did i do research looking for every single cat that was or could have been alive at the time, but i also wanted to put them in age order (the only exception for this is boulder, who he and russetfur joined shadowclan while wolfstep and foxheart were apprentices, and while russetfur is younger than wolfstep, boulder is actually more about ashheart, newtspeck, and frogtail's age)
i'm not doing "books" exactly, they'll be more in like "parts" or "acts," so every time a major point in the story ends will be when i update the allegiances! the next allegiance update will be after brokenstar and his followers are ran out of shadowclan and windclan returns
text version under the cut for anyone that would be easier to read for!

Mothpaw
Tumblr media
Moth - Mothpaw
Kit - Healer Apprentice
Rogue - Riverclan
Mentor: Mudfur
Apprentices: N/A
Mother: Sasha
Brother: Hawkpaw
Moth and Hawk were taken into Riverclan the moon after the Battle of Bloodclan. They were given to the clan when they were still kits, by their mother, who chose to leave after revealing a secret that the cats of Riverclan have decided to keep to themselves. Mudfur was looking for an apprentice at the time, so when he received an omen of a moth's wing (a specifically special sign for healers, although why that is is lost knowledge) Moth was chosen to become his apprentice. Mothpaw was a great fit for the role, and seemed to enjoy it.

I've realized what one of the flaws in the series is now that's a more subtle flaw.
Aside from Purdy... No one has a "way of speaking". Everyone sounds the same. So much formal speak is used now, and mind you with cats in leader positions I imagine there would be an expectation of sorts, I can't imagine Mistystar accepting anything less than PERFECT grammar.
But a cat like Graystripe? He'd love weird contraction words! Man says "y'ain't" unironically!
Dovewing using big words and long complex phrases until she leaves Thunderclan and challenges herself to use as few words as possible for a while to break the habit...
Hollyleaf The Nerd accidentally taught her the habit in the first place, mind. Get a chair and some water when Holly gives a speech, you'll be there for a while.
Jayfeather on the other hand? Learn to speak grunt.
Lionblaze picks up mannerisms from EVERYONE. Slang from Daisy and Berrynose, a little "y'know?" From Cinderheart, and you can catch him say "um" the same way Leafpool does from his brief time as Cleric apprentice.
Squirrelflight would often speak too quickly so sometimesshetalkslikethis...
Hmm... Bit hard to read.
I'll-write-it-like-this! Squirrelflight!
Skybranch (Twigbranch) stumbles over words and tries to pick them as carefully as possible. A-uh A lot of the time, she'll kinda talk like this? I think, uh, I think that's good. Right? Yeah. Should be okay.
Where cats like, say, the aforementioned Mistystar, take a very high-class tone. A cat like Mistystar would not lower herself to using foul language, like the Thunderclan warrior, Spotfur. There would simply be no need for it.
And Spotfur thinks that that's badger bullocks! Swears express your passion, dammit!
But... Yeah. The way people speak and talk, tells you a LOT about them.

been planning on rewritten warriors, and had thought up of the possibility of having blue x crooked rather than blue x oak being a more interesting idea... (sorry to the blueoak enjoyers) i wanna flesh out this idea more and reread bluestar's prophecy and crookedstar's promise to get a more feel of how this will work out. this is only concept (dont worry abt stonefur I can somehow fit him in somewhere)

Thinking about how I’d do a rewrite again and i still hate how the powers were just just diabolus ex machina’d away after the great battle so I’ve decided they sacrifice their powers to help seal the dark forest, giving it Strength Knowledge and Willpower to better keep it’s prisoners locked inside. This is what causes the massive changes and then when bristlefrost dies she inadvertently gives up her own gift to the dark forest, the ability to change, to adapt, to become more malleable and better for the cats inside, to truly learn instead of just know.
Which causes as Gray Wing is all “you can’t sit with us the dark forest doesn’t change” a leaf to fall on his muzzle, and then they look up and see the trees shedding their leaves, a gentle soft dusting of snow, the eternal worst day of leaf fall you could conceive of is no more, the forest is resting, leaf bare is here to let the forest rejuvenate, and eventually new leaf will come as well, then green leaf, then it will repeat.
The dark forest can change, the cats inside can change, it is change, maybe it always was. Starclan has no true jurisdiction over the dark forest, not truly, just as riverclan has no true to say over windclan, and if it wants a cat be able to leave, not even Gray’s Wing can stop them from crossing the border out.
