I'm just kind of sick of seeing those YouTube videos that talk about what's wrong with romance books and they focus on like. WEIRD KINKS and SHE had SEX with WHO and like.... you're kind of missing the point man.
Booktok romance books aren't bad because they feature kinks you don't like or age gap fantasies or taboo topics.
They're bad because they're badly written. Do some actual goddamn analysis on the FORM of the writing instead of being like.... I think an adult wanting to fuck their college professor is ickyyyy lmao let her fuck that old man its not real
"Oh but what about - " idc. They're in prison? Forced proximity and love as a redemptive force are common tropes in romance fiction that can be used effectively to write a compelling and *gasp* horny story. The book is bad because it is poorly written in that genre, because the characters are terrible, because the world's logic is inconsistent, NOT because it isn't for you. You picked up the gay prison book and then got shocked its about gay men in prison. Incorrect take.
#this isn't about anything in particular I just wanted to bitch about a broad thing I've seen#you don't pick up a science fiction book and then get mad at all the scientific explanations on the ship's engine's warpdrive.#you pick it up cause you like science fiction books with in-depth scientific explanations of fantastical science and get mad cause it sucks#omg they used an UNCONVENTIAL OBJECT to have SEX.#okay? we live in a world with bad dragon. get over it

A Star Trek thought inspired by this post.
I really like when this happens. It's great for world and character building.
Firstly, it just make logical sense. TNG era is 350ish years in the future. They have an extra 350 years of history that we don't. I'm sure there are some things that happened in the 1600s that people in the 1700s thought were important, but most people today don't know or care about. It's not as relevant to us as it was to them. To Earth Star Trek people, Zephram Cochrane (the Human inventor of the warpdrive for Earth) is probably a more important historical figure to know about than Amelia Earhart. And you only have a limited amount of time to teach history in school. There's no way to teach everything, and a student won't retain everything they do learn.
They also live in an intergalactic society, so some non-Earth events are going to be important history that's shaped their society. Stuff like "This event on Andoria led to them joining the Federation, which has led to blah blah" and "This Klingon leader is why we've had peace with the Klingons for the past 50 years because blah blah" might take some general history class space.
As for the character aspect, that's a realistic detail that works. I like Julian not knowing about the 2024 Bell Riots while Sisko does. That historical period and topic is something Sisko finds important or interesting, while Julian doesn't. Paris knowing about 20th century gas-powered cars when they've had non-gas hovercars for at least 200 years is an interesting detail for him.
Personally, I have very little interest in any history after 1900. As result, using a "DS9: Past Tense" style example, if I was thrown back in time to an important WW2 battle, I'm not going to know a damn thing about what's supposed to happen and how. And that's not nearly as big a time difference as it is between Julian and 2024. To use a Paris style example, I have little idea how the very first cars from over 100 years ago worked, and I don't care to learn about it. All that matters to me is that I know how my 2021 car works.
Anyway, I just like whenever this happens in the shows, because its realistic and gives insight into the world and characters.

bfdia 17 and tpot 15 spoilers
bfdia 17
needle’s votes were counted separately, which means pencil is out, which is sad but also funny because now she gets to host with the rest of the wtfers. oh yeah they get to host now! i love that, also balloony just warpdriving out killed me. loved the mini freesmart reunion
fries actually taking the immunity was also a welcome surprise, we didnt really need pin to get tortured more this late in the season. i also guess at this point there isnt really gonna be a merge so much as a bunch of singleton teams, buts thats fine imo. coinpin :)
loved all the little cameos in the mall, very fun. also leafy! didnt really have too much screen time but oughhh they were teasing her for so long i almost lost hope. so very close to the first ever bookleaf interaction
the main event of course is tennis ball and nickel’s excellent adventure. if i had a nickel for every time a random donut line from bfb was justified by bfdia i would have two nickels: past nickel and future nickel. its nickel’s fault gaty got eliminated btw he lured that bug up there. he also caused all of tpot 15 by kicking the yoylite into the future so THANKS BUDDY
overall very funny episode! as much as i hate to say it i think needle is going to go here, she was very close to elimination last time and she also didn’t really have much to do this time. nickel is also a solid possibility due to him destabilizing the fabric of spacetime, which sources tell me is not a very “cash money” thing to do
anyway time for The Horrors
tpot 15
nickel i am going to throttle you
i predicted basketball was gonna be out but it doesnt mean im happy about it. also tree staying in over robot flower was a shock, i thought people really liked her?? poor thang her self esteem is in the toilet now. at least they got to fly away on a dragon to get lesbian married together
i love love love how theyre using the rejects more its wonderful (the pda short was definitely a test to see if people would like the rejects as characters im sure of it). itrd trying to replace firey to make himself relevant inadvertently made relevant from people editing him over firey i love it
ive seen people say they dont like the time travel but me? im eating this up its so good, wonderfully silly depiction of the butterfly effect, its perfect for bfdi. the host continuously being changed was a wonderful bit, and host with a screen! there were so many callbacks for the bfdi geeks in the crowd (me), i hope they do more with the tfi style it is so nice to watch
PENCIL CRASH OUT ARC TO RING IN THE NEW YEAR HALLELUJAH thank you one for getting her on the show. actually this crash out and the resulting timeline devastation is the exact reason one rigged pencil to get it. poor pencil man she needs friends
the finale of the episode with everyone huddling together as reality falls apart honestly got to me. icy running over to me with book is everything to me. her last moments and she chooses to spend them with book sndbejuxhsbansn
ok uh elimination predictions probably tree from dpya but maybe marker?? idk maybe his fans wont like him green. from team two i would like it to be grassy but i know hes gonna get the most votes again somehow. sorry taggy it might be your time to go
idk how to end this

Crackship idea C!Doom and Skywarp
Doom wants to teleport. Point is he needs to catch a warper to figure out the warpdrive. Its not possible to catch a warper especially with his reputation
Courting it is
That's fucking hilarious. And what's even more hilarious is that Skywarp would be so up for it too, even if he learned why Doom was doing it.
Doom: "You are so interesting, Skywarp. Doom wishes he could open you up and see how you work."
Skywarp, who's had weirder things said to him: "Perhaps we can arrange that."

Prince of vos Starscream falling in live with two commoners (Skywarp and Thundercracker) and fluffy courtship insures
idk it’s not a great au but it’s the first thing I thought of
Omg hi its good to see you again!! 🥰
This is SO CUTE, I'm so here for this! Imagine the meetcutes!!!! Maybe little Skywarp's carrier works in the palace, and a very rambunctious little Sky lets himself into the garden via his warpdrive 🤭 he meets Starscream hiding under a hedge reading a book
Oh oh or!! Imagine 🥺 a cozy little cafe-library, where patrons come for tea and snacks as well as free reading. Skywarp works there part time doing barista stuff, Thundercracker works the bookstore part, and Starscream... well! Starscream regularly absconds from the palace to enjoy the serene peace and quiet. Idk how the three of them are eventually drawn together, but it could be so fun!!
#trineshipping#fr i hope this isnt weird but friendo everytime you pop up in my ask box i get really excited#starscream#Skywarp#Thundercracker

*sighs dreamily* ain’t it crazy that the Babylonians damaged the warpdrive to Astral Babylon because they had accidentally entered the No Zone, in which the only way back to the primeverse is through sentient portals generated by the Sorcerer Kings, so one must exit through the same portal entered, and in the miscalculated dimension jump, they stole Trogg’s board, which is why it’s named the Berserker in Sonic Riders, a board immune to airtanks and wholly reliant on the blind-rage it possesses its rider with to keep them in attack mode, but in a way distinct from chaos energy since it does not feed off of dark gaia and fry the board? Anyways, I’ll need a tray this time.
the barista still waiting for my order: how many ice waters today?

Alright! Everyone, please welcome the crew of the Cosmic Treader!
Captain Silver (at desk. Blue and red), he’s the leader of this here crew. As a privateer, he seeks out pirates and hooligans that cause chaos in other ships and planets.
Remix (stereo shoulders) is the “hype man” of the crew, sharing uplifting songs to cheer the crew up when morale is low. But watch out! His musical talent is also his greatest weapon!
Warpdrive (behind tree), is one of the speedsters of the crew. As the reigning champion of Cube and the Iacon 5000, Very few can match his athletic abilities and stamina.
Seraph (black and red) is Silver’s swiftest and stealthiest flyers. While he may be blind, he is the most precise fighter on the Cosmic Treader, not letting his blindness stop him for a second.
Solarflare (flamed bot) is the other speedster. His mischievous and playful side makes people forget he was actually a respected fire chief for Iacon.
Tracer (police bot) and Radar (k-9) are the best detective duo in the known galaxy! They do what they can to make sure everyone is safe in every mission.
Railus (red and white) is a Knightformer whose guild was massacred a long time ago. He’s Silver’s second in command and is the most chivalrous of the group.
Astrostrike (blue and green) is a cruiser titan (think of Omega Supreme). While he’s the crew’s tank, he’s actually a gentle and sensitive soul.
Blitz (black and yellow) is the crew’s ninja. He’s the most reserved crew member. He also became mute after a run in with a deadly ronin.
And the human in the pictures? Well, that’s me! This was during Christmas time and we were getting the ship all decked out!….. *sigh* memories……
There are a lot of them. Very interesting crew! I have heard of Solarflare and Warpdrive, but I have never had the pleasure. Snf. I assume they visit you occasionally.
Dorothy and Alex begin Christmas celebrations as early as September, as per Filipino tradition. Alex has taught me quite a lot about it and I, in turn, have imparted knowledge about Cybertronian traditions.

Character Gallery Part 2: Our non-astartes support cast!
Again I must thank @rowscara for putting with me and all these designs, but once again I have amassed enough of them for collection post! If you wish to see the three "main characters" of Tepidus Tempestus click here.
Starting off with the highest rank, Lord Castellan Dederik Dunst, the captain of the ship and highest non-astartes authority who due to legal complications cannot be called Captain or Admiral. The rank of Lord Castellan, to which he was promptly appointed by the Chaptermaster as in the Imperial system allows it for a legal loophole including the - supposedly - temporary nature of such rank as well as its lack of specification.
Originally from the Astra Militarum and left to die on a volcanic deathworld after an imperial screw-up. After months of trying to survive the toxic ashen atmosphere and attempting to get an emergency signal out, the Tepidus Tempestus stumbled over them by sheer accident involving several navigators and what would later prohibit the use of caffeine-like stimulants by them for several years.
Out of the dozen or so that were left, he is the only one who did not succumb to the aftereffects. His lungs are severely fucked however, which has him constantly smoking a very specific herbal mix to combat the symptoms. Dunst is probably one of the most loyal to the chapter as he literally owes his life to them - although this loyality does explicitly not extend to Astra Militarum high command for obvious reasons.
It should be noted that he has a slight hoarding problem in that every single console, chair, and work-station around whatever place he works has several lasguns, explosives, rations and fortification materials stowed inside. The fact that he did all that in secret has gotten him into some trouble with the Chaptermaster when it came out.
Following the highest authority on the bridge, here's the absolute tyrant of the machine room, Engine Master Angela Kirrspatt - archenemy of tech priest Daimos-5 (self-proclaimed), and - barring some technicalities - the oldest human on the ship. She's mostly held together by spite and devotion to the vessel - this devotion goes to the point that she has an actual Tech Priest Killcount.
In her younger years she had observed the incompetence of Daimos-5's predecessors that would have almost blown the ship into pieces as well as the disregard the tech priests had for the human workforce, and led a worker's rebellion in response. Chaptermaster Auris was so impressed by her organisational skills as well as pulling it off while keeping all systems running without issue that he promptly promoted her - and politely overlooked the frozen remains of shattered flesh and steel chained to the coolant pipes.
Rising further in the ranks during her service she, in a rather unusual turn of events, became the inofficial vice-captain of the 3rd Astartes Company (Techmarine Specialists). She was the assistant to their Captain Hephaton, but the man is an elusive hermit busy with his work and avoiding other people. Eventually he started sending her out to all the meetings he didn't give a shit about (which was nearly all of them), and so it was established.
The fact that Daimos-5 is still alive and even gets some liberties within her domain goes to show how skilled he is, and that she - even if only begrudingly - respects him. His expertise is Gellar Field tech and the Warpdrive in general, but all the tech surrounding it is her domain. Curiously, Kirrspatt and Dunst were a thing once, 70 years back or so. The lone survivor clinging to life and the barsh mechanic girl... although nowadays they bond mostly by being weird cranky old people.
Often seen with personal Astartes guards of the 3rd, although it is not sure if they are guarding her from other people, or other people from them.
From Engineering back to the bridge here's Communications Officer Liberta - being a lingusitical genius that somehow speaks every concievable dialect of high and low gothic at the young age of "officially" 35 terran years, her job is mostly tuning in to the Vox-frequencies and whatever else goes around that is not an astropathic transmission.
Aside from her foul mood and the - barely concealed undercity gang-tattoos - there's actually not much known about her. In fact there is so little known, that very specific events in the story led to some... complications. Her files regarding her past before joining were clean. TOO clean... but giving away more would spoilers. However the Navigators and Astropaths on the vessel do not like her, but that might be because she sometimes takes some of their drug stashes.
Apparently Liberta has a substance tolerance that - for some of them - goes beyond that of even Astartes, but mostly uses those so she can work longer and harder. Just like Chaptermaster Auris this is yet another case that makes Chief Apothecarius Timidus scream "BY THE THRONE STOP WORKING YOUR BODY IS LITERALLY FALLING APART HAVE SOME REST!"
Mostly gets away with her foul attitude because of extreme competence paired with Dunst and Auris having somewhat of a soft spot for her.
And finally, last but not least for this post, let's hear it for out Medical Ogryn, Nurse Narcosis, Apothecarius Timidus' favourite assistant. As it turns out when you have patients the size and weight of Astartes, you might need someone even bigger and stronger to move them around.
Orginally from the weapons deck, when a mishandlung of ammunition led to many people being injuried, he carried them all to the apothecarium. Then after sticking around and insiting to help, Timidus found use for him.
Although Narcosis started out as dumb as they come, unlike most Ogryn in the Imperium he had something entirely unique: a teacher with the patience of centuries. Timidus was pleased to have an assistant who did EXACTLY what he was told without question or hesitation, assuming Narcosis could understand the concept.
So it started off simple, with "carry this", "hold that", "look scary so the gawkers piss off", and eventually over many, many years the orders became more and more complex ("spray this on the cut" - "put on that bandaid"). While it takes a while to get new knowledge into that massive skull, once it actually is in there, it STAYS there.
Can now perform simple surgery if necessary, but really does not like working on non-astartes. Regular humans are so fragile and it makes him very, VERY nervous.
