first was introduced to wwe back in 2008 because of my brother. was a john cena fan ;) we used to play smackdown vs raw 08 together on the wii; i remember we used to make jeff hardy fight against matt because we thought it was funny to make brothers fight, lmao (i was always jeff). we also played with the action figures. the best matches being him as umaga and me as big show. he graciously gave me his john cena, big show and carlito figures XD <3

If Cena Wins , We Riot: Looking Back On John Cena vs Rob Van Dam
In honor of tonight’s new episode of Biography: WWE Legends on A&E about Rob Van Dam, this article is going to be looking back at the match between John Cena and Rob Van Dam at ECW One Night Stand in 2006.
Extreme Championship Wrestling ( ECW ) was once a popular wrestling promotion founded in 1992 by Tod Gordon as a branch of the National Wrestling Alliance ( NWA ) , however , in 1993, wrestling manager and businessman , Paul Heyman ( previously Paul E.Dangerously ) , took over creative control. Heyman made the promotion into being known for hardcore wrestling, which meant weapons such as tables and sometimes fire would be used during the shows. He also had different wrestlers of different backgrounds come in to the promotion and show styles of wrestling that were never seen before . Wrestlers such as Rob Van Dam, Raven , The Sandman , and Tommy Dreamer are examples of stars of the promotion. Heyman described his promotion as a grunge version of the WWF as Grunge Music was a popular genre of music during the 90s. However , Vince McMahon bought out the company after it went bankrupt in 2003. Thus, McMahon would make it WWE’s third brand in 2006.
Paul Heyman would be in charge of creative for the rebrand of ECW in 2006 with McMahon supervising his role for a few months. Heyman’s brand would be the third one to be on TV alongside Monday Night RAW and Friday Night Smackdown. Therefore, he would also bring back the ECW World Heavyweight Championship and the first champion being Rob Van Dam. Van Dam received the championship as a reward for winning the main event of One Night Stand.
Following One Night Stand’s success in 2005, WWE decided to bring back the show for 2006 under the rebrand of ECW. The show took place on June 11,2006 in New York. Paul Heyman opened the show with a promo and welcoming fans. Nevertheless, wrestlers from all three of WWE’s shows were there as well as ECW originals . The card for One Night Stand was stacked with matches such as Edge, Lita, and Mick Foley vs Tommy Dreamer , Beulah McGillicutty , and Terry Funk , and Sabu vs Rey Mysterio for the World Championship. The main event was Rob Van Dam vs John Cena for the WWE Championship.
The ECW fans did not respect John Cena before the big match started. Cena did his entrance the same as he did on RAW by throwing his T shirt out to the crowd , fans threw the shirt back multiple times due to their hatred of the future WWE Hall of Famer. When Rob Van Dam made his way to the ring , the fans erupted with cheers. During the match , fans kept shouting expletive chants at Cena and telling him that he could not wrestle. The match went outside of the ring with RVD hitting a moonsault off of the steel ring steps onto Cena. While the match was continuing and RVD getting out of Cena’s submission , the STFU , Cena decided to clothesline the referee. RVD also blocked Cena’s attempt to use his finishing move, the FU ( now the Attitude Adjustment). Nick Patrick was the substitute referee for the remainder of the match. Therefore , a person wearing a motorcycle helmet decided to run in the ring and gave Cena a spear through a table. Nevertheless, the person who wore the motorcycle helmet was revealed to be Cena’s rival , Edge. Edge also knocked out Nick Patrick with the fans cheering him on.
Paul Heyman rushed to the ring and counted to three, giving RVD the victory and the WWE Championship. On Monday Night RAW the next night , Heyman came to the ring and announced that Mr.McMahon looked back on the match and ruled that RVD was the WWE Champion . Heyman would reintroduce the WWE Championship as the ECW World Heavyweight Championship on the season premiere of ECW on Sci-Fi ( SyFy). Van Dam wanted to keep the WWE Championship because it spun and became the ECW World Heavyweight Champion and WWE Champion. He would soon be speared by Edge with John Cena coming through the crowd to attack Edge and punching Paul Heyman. Cena was chased away by ECW originals. At the Vengeance Pay Per View , Van Dam would retain the WWE Championship by defeating Edge. Cena defeated ECW original , Sabu , in an Extreme Rules Lumberjack Match. Rob Van Dam and John Cena’s One Night Stand Match was 20 minutes and 40 seconds.
Fun Fact: Kevin Steen ( Kevin Owens) was in attendance at One Night Stand.
My Final Thoughts:
This match has to be one of my all time favorites. It had so much drama with it and a lot of controversy to it , which is something I love to see because I think it is great storytelling when it comes to wrestling. Yes , you might be angry if your favorite loses but if it is a great match , it will be a classic. Cena and RVD put on a great show . I wasn’t expecting Cena to basically be booed out of the building . I also thought RVD was pretty cool as a kid and I still do. If you could go back in time , would you watch this match live?
Love You All,
- Kay

Retro Gaming 00's- WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2006
When it comes down to classic pro wrestling video games from the 2000’s one of the greatest titles to have emerged from that decade is WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2006. WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2006 was a Yuke’s creation that was published by THQ and was released for the PlayStation 2 back in 2005. WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2006 was the successor to the original SvR title from ’04 and more realistic in terms of…

@greatrunner he looks like someone just hit random like 40 times in the wwe smackdown vs raw 2006 character creator. prolly one of the worst character designs ive seen in a minute and yea, i have NO clue why they keep bringing him back.
its okay to admit defeat and just accept that you made a shitty character that doesnt need to come back.
quan chi is SO corny, even his name is corny.

This seems to be a pattern that I’m going to implement in these ramblings.  I’ll mention something in a post and then make it the main topic in the next post.  I mentioned E3 in the previous post and how I would make a list on what games I’m interested in.  E3 is an event in the spring/early summer where developers would announce games for the upcoming holiday season.  In recent years, E3 has been falling off as of late and developers have been releasing pre-recorded videos instead of full-on press conferences.  So I went back to IGN to see what games were announced at E3 2006.  I have compiled a list of games that I eventually bought that were announced at that event, some of which I’ve eventually sold.
Baten Kaitos Origins
Bioshock
Dawn of Mana
Dead Rising
Donkey Kong:  Barrel Blast
Elite Beat Agents
Final Fantasy XII
Guitar Hero 2
Legend of Zelda:  Phantom Hourglass
Legend of Zelda:  Twilight Princess
Madden 07
Mario Hoops 3 on 3
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid:  Portable Ops
Metroid Prime 3
New Super Mario Bros
Quantum of Solace
Red Steel
Star Fox Command
Super Paper Mario
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Tales of the Abyss
Tony Hawk Downhill Jam
Tony Hawk Project 8
Wii Sports(packed in with Wii)
WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007
Xenosaga 3
Not including the various Virtual Console games that were announced on the Wii, there are 27 games.  From this year’s pre-recorded videos, I saw only 3 games that I am interested in not including DLC;  Mythforce, Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Wonder.
I am not upset by this.  My wallet is thankful that developers aren’t making games that I want.  I feel like this is less to do with developers trying to advertise to me and more to do with them lacking the creativity that they had over a decade and a half ago.  I once described the lack of creativity and innovation in games as developers designing a motorcycle without the motor not realizing that that’s a bicycle or a bicycle with a motor not realizing that it’s a motorcycle.  Mythfocce is a game based on Saturday Morning cartoons that was released in 2022 and is going to get a console release later this year.  Mythforce is something else, it’s something new, it’s a new setting and it has my full attention.  Super Mario Wonder is the exact opposite.  It’s a Mario game.  I know what I’m getting with it and I’m not going to expect anything new.  But it’s still a Mario game and I gots to play it.  Super Mario RPG is a remaster of my favorite video game of all time.  It can play the exact same way that it did in the 1997 release, I don’t care, it’s Super Mario RPG.  While Mythforce seems to be its own thing, the two Mario games seem to fall into the motorcycle/bicycle analogy.  I don’t have the solution to solve this problem, the well of innovation seems to be dried up right now.  The games I am having the most fun with now are JackBox type games that are popular with Twitch streamers.  I’m only one person and the type of console games that I want to play are multiplayer co-op games like Borderlands.  If developers went back to a co-op centric gameplay, I would be all in for that.

She’s So Lucky, She’s A Star: The Life And Death of Ashley Massaro
Five years ago today , former WWE Diva , Actress, Reality Show Star , and Model, Ashley Massaro was found dead.
Ashley Massaro was born in New York City, New York on May 26, 1979 to Ronnie and Barbara Massaro. Her father , brother , and uncle competed in amateur wrestling in Babylon, New York, where she would spend the majority of her childhood. Massaro would finish high school in 1997 at John Glenn High School in Elwood , New York and soon furthering her education with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, following it with a minor degree in Business from the State University of New York Albany before starting her career in the modeling industry.
Ashley Massaro started her modeling career by competing in the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Beauty Pageants. She won the title of Miss Hawaiian Tropic USA in 2002 and the same title for the Canada branch of the brand in 2004. She also posed for magazines such as Stuff, FHM, and Maxim before signing with WWE and posing for the cover of Playboy. However , she did pose for the magazine in 2003 and 2004. She auditioned for Playboy scouts when they were auditioning aspiring models for the 50th Anniversary Playmate Hunt. She also posed for Femme Fatales and Flex Magazines.
Massaro’s big break came in 2005 when she entered the WWE RAW Diva Search. She entered the search when she met with a WWE casting agent during a swimsuit competition. She won the competition after beating out seven other women. Her prize was $250,000 and a one year contract with the wrestling company. She was attacked by Torrie Wilson and Candice Michelle on RAW a week later as a way to ‘ welcome ’ her to WWE. Alongside their enforcer, Victoria, they were known as Vince’s Devils, a stable of Divas who named themselves after WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon. Massaro made her debut alongside her trainer and friend, Trish Stratus, to help defeat the stable. Ashley soon had an another big feud, against Mickie James , who was also debuting around the same time as her. Stratus and James were in a storyline where Mickie was an obsessed fan of Trish. Thus, Ashley was thrown in there as Trish’s friend and was always attacked and losing matches thanks to Mickie’s jealousy and obsession with Trish.
Nevertheless , during the 2006 WWE Draft , she was drafted to Smackdown and soon became a valet for the tag team of Brian Kendrick and Paul London. She made her debut for the brand alongside Jillian Hall in a tag team match against Michelle McCool and Kristal Marshall. Massaro did have two well known matches. She faced Melina for the WWE Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 23 and a Playboy Lumberjill match at Wrestlemania 24.
In 2007, Massaro was the Diva to be chosen to be on the cover of Playboy Magazine. She also posed for a few magazines and starred in music videos as well as making a few appearances in TV shows. Ashley doing Playboy led her to be in a storyline with Jillian Hall, who became jealous of her popularity due to the magazine. She asked for her release from the company in 2008 to go take care of her young daughter, Alexa, who was sick at the time.
Ashley Massaro was a contestant on Survivor: China in 2007. She had a feud with another contestant on the show, Dave Cruser. They were both assigned to the Zhan Zu tribe. She was eliminated in the second episode of the show. The same year, Massaro and fellow WWE Wrestler, Kane, made guest appearances on the show, Smallville. She also appeared on the Fuse TV show , ‘ The Sauce ’. Massaro and a few other women’s wrestlers starred in Timbaland’s music video for his song , ‘ Throw It On Me ’. The following year , she was in the video for the band, Rev Theory, and their song , ‘ Hell Yeah ’. She also made her video game debut in Smackdown vs RAW 2008 and was added in the game the same year. She also was on Extreme Makeover : Home Edition with John Cena and Batista and as Danny Bonaduce’s personal trainer in Breaking Bonaduce. She also hosted a few episodes of Wild On! for the E! Entertainment Network in 2003. She returned to wrestling in 2017 on the independent circuit as a manager alongside Jillian Hall. They both worked for Zero1 Professional Wrestling USA. She spent the last part of her life as a radio DJ in 2018 in Long Island.
Massaro joined a Class Action Lawsuit against WWE in 2016 alongside another wrestler. This suit claimed that Vince McMahon concealed the risks of being injured to the point of neurological damage. She also stated that she was Sexually Assaulted during a WWE tour of a military base in Kuwait. McMahon told her not to report it as a way to keep the WWE ‘s reputation and relationship with the military going. She also stated that she was harassed by McMahon himself . She claimed that she saw him making out with other Divas and believed he tried to ruin her career after she rejected his advances.
Massaro struggled with her mental health in her later years. She didn’t show up for work on May 15, 2019 going into May 16 after replying to some fan mail. She was found unresponsive by paramedics at her home in Smithtown , New York. She was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after. Ashley Massaro left behind her daughter , Alexa , her mother , Barbara, and her brother , Ronnie. Her cause of death was Suicide by hanging. Her death sparked a conversation about mental health in the wrestling business just as fellow wrestlers’ , Hana Kimura’s and Daffney’s did. Ashley Massaro is buried at St.James Episcopal Church Graveyard in Saint James , New York.
My Final Thoughts:
Ashley Massaro was an amazing wrestler. I loved watching her as a kid and was devastated when she died. To me, she deserved so much better than how she was treated in WWE. I wish she would’ve reached out about her mental health. I also wish people believed her when she spoke about the trauma she went through. I know I believe her. Ashley, I am so sorry you had to go through Hell. I and many others will fight for you to get justice. We miss and love you!
Please reach out if you need a friend to talk to. I’ll do my best to try and help. You’re loved and you’re needed in this world!
Love You All My Readers,
- Kay

WWE 2K23 first impressions (I haven't played more than like one match but lots of GM mode)
with recent sports games like The Show 22 and NBA 2K21, you can pretty convincingly watch them as if they were real sports broadcasts. i've bought several NBA 2K games that I've never actually tried 'playing' because this concept fascinates me.
generally this isn't my experience with wrestling games, particularly the early entries in the series which today has spawned WWE 2K. early SmackDown! and SmackDown vs. Raw games developed by Yuke's were some of the best pro wrestling games of all time. while I've always admired the fun gameplay and free season mode of Here Comes the Pain on PS2, it's not like those games are particularly enjoyable to watch CPU vs CPU.
in SmackDown vs Raw 2006, General Manager mode was introduced, basically a light booking sim that tasked players with hiring wrestlers, booking them in rivalries, building up the popularity of them and your brand while trying to have more fans than your rival wrestling brand. while not as in depth as something like EWR, it was a fun mode that actually served as something of a precursor to later Universe modes and helped breathe some of that 'sandbox' feel back into the series after its season mode had become more scripted and rigid. after a few games, the mode was removed, coincidentally this was exactly the timeframe where wrestling games (these included) all started having a turn for the mid
wrestling games have obviously become better looking over the years, and this extends to the gameplay. over the years Yuke's and later current devs Visual Concepts brought the gameplay of the WWE series closer to real world broadcast.
that brings us to WWE 2K23. is this game fun to play? would I rather play this than any Yuke's wrestling game released before 2007? not really. it's fine. WWE '13 played fine too. if the gameplay is fine you can turn your brain off and get through the games Showcase mode to get the unlockable legends and arenas. I haven't bothered doing that yet but it seems Fine.
but who cares about that GM MODE IS BACK since the last game BUT STILL! i didn't get the last game (the series return after COVID and a bad last entry made it skip a year), so this is the second edition of new GM mode. as a longtime fan of the mode who basically paid for this game just for new GM mode, how is it? i think it's cool!
modern GM mode lets up to four brands face each other. this is a lot better executed than 2008's three brands because WWE 2K23 has a massive roster. that's kind of been the thing for the series for the last half decade, having massive rosters. even with four brands drafting and plenty of wrestlers held back for later free agency, they can comfortably draft and have dozens left over. 2008's GM mode (the final classic one) had a multitude of issues but the biggest one was not having a big enough roster for its mode. in 2008, one brand (ECW) was also screwed by only having access to one title belt and thus one champion to boost show ratings. every brand has access to the standard suite of titles in modern GM mode
this mode would be great fun with friends, and one of the big reasons are the power up cards you acquire during your streamlined season. on a roughly half year schedule every show you book has Triple H offering you these rewards in return for fulfilling his arbitrary demand. some of these do things like boost costs on your opponent's show and would be nice for head games and strategy. they can also give a variety of boosts to the user like boosting match quality for steel cage matches. you can buy a handful of these every week so it's one of the things you juggle and think about throughout a season
the basics of GM mode from the old days remain but just streamlined and in a fresh way. the core tenants of build rivalries and book exciting shows while keeping an eye on wrestler morale and stamina are all here, not the same as in classic GM mode, but all I think well realized. wrestlers have classes this time which adds strategy to booking; cruiserweights and giants match up well as do fighters and bruisers while technicians can get a good match out of anyone. juggling all these systems, maximizing profit and trying not to get your guys injured is the name of the game
as the season goes on, stamina becomes increasingly important and concerning. you'll need to play chess to make sure you protect people so they don't get hurt while keeping them popular and their rivalries fierce. hiring new blood and legends becomes necessary and you'll probably stock up on cards. at the end of the season this stuff all resets, causing a flow where your small cozy roster goes through the gamut and is very different by the end of the season
morale is more interesting in this than classic GM mode. every week you get messages, rival AI GMs periodically bother you or whine about you using a card, but more interestingly your wrestlers will come to you with requests, demands, or thanks. they'll be more loyal to you depending on how you treat them, and if you don't make people happy they'll be just as likely to demand $100k or they'll walk… though not everyone will actually go through with it lol. none of this is that complex in execution but it's fun and these requests and morale can be amusing and/or affect booking.
wrapping back to my earliest point, while I don't have much interest in playing the game, the presentation has certainly become pretty good over the years. not quite as spot on as MLB The Show, but wrestlers generally look and move roughly how they ought to, and with the right AI settings they can simulate genuinely realistic wrestling matches. perhaps in ten years the games will really look like real wrestling, for now I think what this game provides is damn impressive.
with matches being semirealistic and entertaining to watch, a mode where you spend some time figuring out where to put all the chess pieces and then sitting back and seeing how it all plays out can be deeply satisfying. I haven't even touched Universe mode in this game yet, but what I've seen so far has been pretty satisfying to me as a longtime wrestling game fan.
with modes like this, games that simulate real world athletics, fake or otherwise, will be infinitely replayable for anyone who has a good time playing in the sandbox of the offered modes. WWE 2K23's standard creation options and downloadable suite of thousands of player creations only add to this, though the servers for those won't be around forever, the game's included roster is well sufficient. when you get into custom draft classes including custom wrestlers, things start to get a little wild, so have fun exploring
my only gripes with modern GM mode really are just a few things that aren't Even More sandbox. the four slots can use any of five brands but no brands beyond that. the given brands are logical i suppose (RAW, SD, NXT, NXT 2.0, WCW) but more would be nice including legacy options or just the ability to import custom images and names like in Universe mode. options like ECW, 205 Live and NXT UK would have made sense here. the GM selection is solid (would have liked to see William Regal here but classic Bischoff is a nice touch I usually use as GM of Raw) and I always play as Sonya Deville. being able to choose a custom wrestler as a GM is appreciated and makes up for this. the other complaints are a lack of available match types in the mode. you can literally do 8-man matches in this game but are restricted to four man matches at most in GM mode. you also can't use custom belts for this mode and stuff but it's whatever. like I said my complaints are mostly related to wishing it were even more customizable
