I don't think Dr D ever wanted to be a symbol of the revolution, nor did he ever really want to be "the voice of the Zones". He only fought in the helium wars because he was protecting his family. Which at the time was Show Pony, his nephew that was entrusted with him just before the wars started, and the hope that Show Pony's parents, Dr D's brother and sister-in-law, would live to see their child again. But they didn't. And the wars ended. And what was he to do? The only thing he did before the wars was play silly songs and tell stories over his radio broadcast. Show had just 13 and he knew they knew that their parents weren't coming back. So now he had a mourning teenager and the difficulties of living in the middle of a desert where killjoy society was just barely forming, not to mention getting used to being in a wheelchair. What was he to do besides turn back to what he did before? He flicked on all the switches, plugged in the microphone, and had Show start up the generator he managed to save. And thus the WKIL 109 FMX or 109 radio station was born. Out of grief. Out fo struggle. Out of need for something from before everything went to shit. And soon word spread all over the newly forming "Zones" of this man called Doctor Death Defying that would come on over the radio and talk about stories, tell words of encouragement, and even share songs made by the rebellion. Over the years as this became a sort of routine for him and Pony he took on new people, helping them get their start or pulling them out of horrible situations. And it was through this music and Cherri's poetry and pure word of mouth from Killjoy to Killjoy that he became the voice of the Zones. Even after his death you can sometimes still hear recordings of him speaking if you tune into the radio at the right times. Some killjoys say it's because Show still plays them sometimes, it's like Dr D always said, "Even if you're dusted, you may be gone, but out here in the desert your shadow lives on without you."

Anyone hearin’ me? Pfft — I didn’t think this old thing would broadcast!
Ah, whatever — the name’s Red Alert! I’ve been Zonerunnin’ for about 15 years at this point, so if any of you bunnies need directions, this old lady’s gotcha.
(If you’re old enough to remember when WKIL 109 took requests, I was the one who kept playin’ all the White Zombie. Sorry ‘bout all that, I just hold the firm belief that music from before the Wars is just…better)
You probably don’t wanna hear my sob story — there’s not much to it that I can remember and I doubt this staticky girl would let you hear it, anyways. To keep it short, I spent time in the juviehalls as a kid, feedin’ half-dead pronodroids, hoppin’ around the subways before I made my way out, you know the deal. Watched my whole gang get ghosted too. That’s when I really learned the value of runnin’, and I ain’t stopped since.
So what exactly do I do? Great question. I intercept radio transmissions to and from Bat City which is way more risky than you think it is, so don’t try it at home, kids. While it’s not exactly useful for Killjoys and such who are trapped, I can easily confuse convoys of pigs and exterminators so the rest of us sand worms have some time to hide. Can ya tell Dr. D was my biggest inspiration as a Batt Ratt? Ha. You won’t ever see me in the same place, but if you ever need me, tune in and start hollerin’!
With all that bein’ said, I gotta go grab some new batteries for this thing. Next time you hear from me, I won’t be broadcastin’ from a damn Walkman.

Congrats Y’all!
Massive congratulations to everyone who took part in the first Word Crawl this month!
The sheer amount of competition and spite fueled writing we completed was really incredible, can’t wait for part 2!
Also a huge thank you to @saveyourself for setting up the whole thing in the first place

A really funny takeaway from Danger Days is that you cannot kill the radio in a way that matters

WKIL radio station isn't a building but the caravan parked next to it, rusty, covered in spray paint and seems to be barely holding together but also filled with the best radio equipment you can find in the zones and ready to move in matter of minutes when needed. There's barely enough room for three people in there especially when one is in a wheelchair so living out of it for longer time definitely isn't great but when dracs are one their way you simply don't have time to find a car a move everything piece by piece so storing everything on wheels and finding somewhere to live if you're lucky is the best solution you can find

Doctor D, over the radio: Welcome back, kiddos, hope you enjoyed the weather forecast brought to us by Newsie. Next up, we have... a song dear to my heart. It's a song from years ago, when i was as young and full of spunk as you are. I hope it touches your heart like it did mine the first time i heard it. *Dancing Queen from Mama Mia! starts playing*

The Radio Crew VS Gender
That’s right baybee  I love the radio crew sm i swear
- Dr Death Defying      - He/Him      - Trans!       - Makes it a priority to make sure new joys and people out in the zones have whatever recourses he can give them, really wants everyone to be comfortable in their skin       - Never had the chance to get any gender-affirming surgeries so he does his best to help everybody he can to get them if that’s what they want       - You can go to him with any gender problem you have and he’ll sit with you and help you work it out if he has the time (and he really tries to)
- Show Pony       - They/Ae      - Non Binary       - Gender is a performance and they’ve already won an Academy Award      - They’re here for a good time not a long time
- NewsAGoGo      - She/Her      - Trans of gender! Living her absolute best life       - The Phoenix Witch also transed her gender in Zone 3 but it wasn’t behind the old car lot           - She will never tell you where it did happen
- Cherri Cola       -  He/They      - Jokes with Party about how they split gender with each other/are counters      - Would like to talk to the Witch about this whole transing of gender process           - Has no luck with asking Jet or Newsie (and he never will!)      - If gender is a performance he’s working stage tech
- DJ Hot Chimp       - Genuinely does not care. Any pronouns work       - If you ask about her gender you will get “I’m a lesbian” as a reply       - Has other priorities

Broadcast 1419 2
Gather round children, and open your eyes. Yes, all nine of them. I've come with more tunes to blast your speakers to smithereens! But first, we read off today's numbers:
11111111 9 72 583 2 67 92728 12
Don't ask me what the numbers are or mean, they are just "The Numbers".
Today's broadcast is a special one! I'm introducing a new segment called "Don't Be Stubborn! You Need Medical Attention!" It's about basic things you can do to stay alive in this crule, sandy, hot, barren wasteland of a desert we call home.
Today's topic; Touniquets!
Touniquets are uses to halt major bleeding. If you have an open wound where the blood is spraying out, you have broken an artery, and your best corse of action is to apply a Touniquet. "But what is a touniquet???" You're probably wondering. A touniquet can be made out of just about anything tie-able, and it is to be tied as tightly as possible 2 in. above the bleeding area to restrict blood flow to the cut, and prevent one from bleeding out.
Anything ranging from bandannas to ruber tubes can be used to make a tourniquet as long as you can tie it tightly. Tightly is key here so the bleeding will stop. I wouldn't recommend using very thin materials such as wire or thread as they can easily cut into the skin. A good rule is to have a material that's at least 1.5in in width, and a bit longer than a foot. This will prevent localized nervous and tissue damage.
To apply; tie the material as tight as you can 2 inches above the major wound. You will want to use a strong, straight object like a knife or stick for a windlass. Place the windlass over the knot and tie it to the tourniquet. Once secured on, turn it to tighten the tourniquet as much as possible. It will be uncomfortable. Tie over the windlass again once the tourniquet is tight so that it won't come loose. Mark the time the tourniquet was applied. Loosen it slightly once an hour to let the skin breath if it will be a significant amount of time until you get medical attention. Remember to re-tighten it!
Tourniquets can cause severe nerve and skin damage, and might result in amputation, but if used properly life and limb can be saved!
I hope this helps, and I'll be working on a new name for the segment....
Well, goodnight and watch out for stranbeests!
