The Fall Guy

This movie has completely taken control over my existence, so here are the little things I love most about it, in no particular order.

The triple meaning of the title.

Colt not just being the fall guy in the sense of the stunt community, but also (almost) taking the fall for Henry's murder, and falling in love with Jody so deeply he'd basically die for her.

This is so cool, and I love the english language for it.

(Also, the little fall guy in the A? Perfection.)

The long shots.

My love for one-ers is just as big as Jody's, I guess.

The opening sequence is just so perfect.

Introducing the main characters, establishing Colt's and Jody's relationship and setting high stakes from the beginning with that stunt gone wrong.

This long shot shows you exactly what kind of movie you're gonna watch, and it's probably one of my favourite opening sequences in a movie ever.

This one is so perfect, too.

Jody trying to come up with answers for everyone, and keeping everything under control amuses me and stresses me out in equal messure.

And talking from the little personal experience I have, this sequence (and the whole movie for that matter) captures the work on set so accurately. It's truly amazing.

Long shots like this take so much time and effort to coordinate, and I just love, and appreciate it so much when movies do that. It's so impressive, and so fun to watch.

The prayer hands emoji.

Tom sending Colt nothing more than a prayer hands emoji because he just doesn't care about his well-being at all.

(I mean, he is in fact responsible for Colt's accident, so it's savage but not surprising.)

And then Colt giving that prick at his valet job the exact gesture because the guy acts like an asshole, and Colt couldn't care less about his crispy fiver.

Gold.

The script credits.

This is genius, and I love everything about it!

When you pause the movie and read everthing, you can see there are actual excerpts from the movie script, just a little modified, to fit the credits.

When I saw this for the first time it totally caught me by surprise, and now it is everything I never knew I needed.

This entire conversation.

Jody asking: "Did you fall?" is so ironic, I wanna scream.

Girl, of course he fell. FOR YOU!

And Colt is so high on whatever kind of drug they spiked his drink with, it's so endlessly funny to me.

Plus the way he just can't stop himself from telling Jody how beautiful she is over and over again, while completely ignoring her concern about his wounds.

Not to mention the extended version of this with that sponge bath discussion.

(Haven't seen the extendet cut yet but saw the scene on YouTube a milion times. I die everytime for multiple reasons.)

I could watch a whole movie of them just having a conversation like this.

Bonus:

Everytime I watch this I end up questioning my sanity, cause I feel like he spontaneously gets me pregnant with whatever it is he does here.

Every. Single. Time.

The way his eyes move from her eyes to her lips?

How Jody didn't just lose her mind, and all ability to breathe right then and there is beyond me.

Split Screen.

Another conversation that is just perfect in it's entirety.

The split screen opening exactly on the middle line of that shelf in the backround is satisfying me in a way that should put me in a mental facility.

Colt and Jody being so in sync and mirroring each other during this whole conversation, even after being apart for like 18 months is so special to me.

Colt knowing her favourite movies?

Their love for each other really is a different kind of epic.

The music matching the movie.

This is pure perfection, and I will never shut up about it.

The bottle equals the promise.

The container is turning around in an uncontrollable spin.

Also:

The Song "Dead Guy On Ice" from the original soundtrack is playing right when Colt says this to Gail on the phone.

Also, also:

"I was made for loving you" being woven into so many songs of the original soundtrack, and returning over and over throughout the whole movie in different ways.

It gives me James Bond vibes, and that just makes my heart smile.

I could go on and on about how much joy this sparks in me, everytime I watch the movie. It never fails to make me smile.

Jean Claude.

Nothing to add here, he's such a bon garçon.

Also, the fact that Colt and Jody just keep him after the happenings of the film, is probably my favourite thing ever.

(And I never knew I needed to hear Ryan Gosling speak french, but apparently it's something my body and soul desired very much.)

The post-it notes.

I am OBSESSED with this. Literally the most relatable thing about Tom Ryder. I love using post-it notes for all kinds of stuff when my brain gets overwhelmed, so this is just too real.

These are cracking me up so hard, I can't.

The cockroach story.

This seriously isn't talked about enough.

Right when I thought I couldn't fall any deeper for Colt's and Jody's relationship, they hit me with this.

Just imagine Colt on all fours, trying to usher that coakroach out of the room, while Jody just sits on the bed, telling him to get it done because she wants to start their movie night.

The domesticity this story implies is killing me in the best way possible.

You're so uncoordinated.

Another thing we just don't talk about enough is this scene right at the beginning:

This is kinda blurry but he totally bumbs her head on that cabinet behind her, and all she does is laugh it off and tell him he's uncoordinated.

And I just love the thought of Colt being this super profesh stuntman, always double-checking everything to make sure it's safe to do the stunts and roll the cameras, but going back to being so adorably clumsy the second the adrenaline rush wears off.

I will never get over this.

That's my girl.

Colt reacting like this when Gail says "That's my girl." is everything to me.

It's so cute, and you know it's exactly what he thought as well, 'cause he is so freaking proud of Jody. It's just so perfect.

"You blew yourself up!"

Tom telling Colt he's supposed to be dead 'cause he blew himself up, then proceeding to blow himself up is amazing writing, and shows how much thought went into this whole thing.

This movie is so good at foreshadowing itself, and I can't get enough of it.

Bonus:

He gets three bars on his phone, and then there are three explosions errupting.

This is satisfying my brain on another level. I can't even put it into words.

Spicy margaritas

Yet another beautiful conversation, that comes full-circle in the end.

Just casually planning a trip to the beach in the middle of the film production chaos, I love that for them.

(The way Ryan says "spicy margarita" is a beautiful thing, that haunts my dreams in the best way possible.)

In conclusion

I love this movie with all my heart, and I could talk hours and hours about how amazing it is.

There's so much more I love about it, but it's just too much to fit it all in here, so these are just the small things that make it extra special for me.

Since I’ve been lurking real deep in the Outsiders fandom lately I figured I’d share what I honestly consider my magnum opus of the last four months since I listened to the musical: a stupidly-giant mostly-accurate spreadsheet detailing what I’ve pieced together to be how old pretty much all the characters are during the plot of the book (and That was Then, This is Now because I got so hyped over Pony being in that book I had to include it), as well as what grades they would’ve been in during what (school) year (so like from September—June of a given year).

Occasionally I’ll see people bring up the age old argument of who’s the oldest/youngest of the gang, and what grade is Ponyboy supposed to be in during the plot of the book, and sometimes I see you guys talking like Darry would’ve been in school with Soda, and like you’re not entirely wrong because it’s all up to interpretation, and he could’ve been at high school with him for a year, but personally I think I could go on for a million years about Sodapop Curtis and school alone, and I’m not going to get into fights over that, but with all the little details about the book that are given to us, that’s not really possible and—whatever. And like how Ponyboy is actually the age he should be in freshman year, because everyone in his grade after being pushed up who has a late birthday would’ve just turned/would be turning 14 in freshman year, but I digress. Not the point here.

The point is, I spent eight hours about a month ago piecing this all together over the span of like three days, and I wanted to share it. I guess it’s important to note that I had to make up some birthdays that I couldn’t find mostly-confirmed somewhere online (someone PLEASE tell me how old Angela Shepard is because she’s the only one I couldn’t find an agreed-upon age for), and that I don’t live A) in or anywhere near Oklahoma or B) in the 1950s/60s, so I took a lot of liberties with when they would’ve started school and whatnot and some of that is based on personal headcanon, like the Curtises having Pony start school a year late because Soda struggled so much in kindergarten and beyond and Pony also had a late birthday and they got worried so they kept him home an extra year.

Basically please just be nice to me about this and please I’m begging you give a poor girl with a brand new teaching certification a reason to talk about how her favorite characters got through school and whatnot I could talk about this for hours clearly thanks and goodbye.

**Also please note this timeline is based on the musical taking place in 1967, but I believe the book takes place in 1965 and I was going by that version of events anyway, so if you’re using this as a reference (which is what it’s meant to be for those who need/want one), you can just subtract two years from everything I guess. It’s all up to interpretation and I’m not saying that everyone needs to agree with this and I don’t WANT everyone to agree with this, I just figured I’d share it for fun, so go nuts.**

Let’s just say things were damaged. Car windows smashed. Tires slashed. Houses were egged, tp’d, and spray painted. Just utter chaos but what more could you expect from a Winston

It took Dal some time to warm up to Two not because of the fact he didn’t know him but being in denial of one of the guys your guys dating his sibling

But you ended up having a heart to heart semi screaming match and Dally finally gave you both his blessing not that you were going to act as if your relationship depended on it you were stubborn. It was just you Winston way but it was still nice to have your brothers approval

Now you were here drawing some pretty good looking dicks on your boyfriends cars windshield in the early hours of the morning with some white a black chalk you had stole picked up from the Markets window that they used to advertise weekly sales

Now how you got yourself in this position was quite simple

You were getting ready for work in the early hours of morning as everyone slept soundly in Curtis household everyone had slept over making themselves comfortable on the floor, sharing the couch, or even in Darry chair that wasn’t at comfortable as he claimed

You and Two-bit had shared the couch with many groans and complaints from Dally and Pony occasionally joining in on the teasing

Johnny and Ponyboy had shared his bed because Soda had insisted staying up with Steve to play Cards they made themselves a comfortable pallet fort of pillow Darry slept in his own bed per usual and blankets on the floor while Dallas slept in the recliner chair

You were the only one who had to go to work that day a quick four hour shift you had no one to cover now you and your brother usually got by with stealing, lying, very illegal car races, and plain ole betting’s

But you had took the fall for something your dear ole Dal had did and got the choice of five years probation with no drinking and smoking or you could get a part time legal job to show court records something about occupying the access free time you had on your hands that got you into trouble

But it was simple enough you were a cashier at the DX working with Steve and Soda you could care less about the job someone could come in the store threatening to burn it down while stealing every penny from the cash register and you would barely bat an eye

So you’d kiss Two bit on his forehead not one for PDA even if quite literally everyone around you were unconscious snores abruptly bouncing of the walls around the room you’d still settled for what you did before getting in the shower

Getting out you decided to clean up your appearance trimming the ends of your hair that Darry uses taking the access hair sweeping it I to the small trash can that sat next to the side of the sink

You grabbed the old blow dryer under the sink plugging it up into the socket next to the light switch you turned on the switch to be met with a face full of flour that indeed got into every nook and cranny you didn’t even know you had as the sound of the old door connected to the frames hinges got your attention for you to turn and look to get a full view of the living room your boyfriends mouth slightly agape as he along with a fraction of the gang slept peacefully as an idea sprung to your mind

So there you were drawing dicks on your boyfriends truck cracking a few eggs that began to sizzling in Tulsa’s morning heat for good measure before grabbing your bag and walking to work with a smirk on your face in a pep in your step

Opening the door to Curtis household was quite a site to come home to it was only 2:30 in the afternoon still quite early to being seeing what you were

Everyone was in a bunch that formed a lopsided circle yelling and screaming at each other you couldn’t get clear words from the conversation but you didn’t have a rough time figuring what it was about

“What if Y/n/n did it?!? Their the ones up the earliest” Steve stated as all attention shifted toward you while you couldn’t help but roll your eyes

“Oh come on Randle! You’re so desperate to get out of it you’re gonna blame my girl/boy/significant other!? You know they stay out of our shit” Two bit defended you locked eyes with Steve

“And for your information Steven I woke up late this morning and wouldn’t have all that time to do whatever it is you’re talking about.” You added on you were a good liar, a great liar even most people would’ve slipped up and would’ve said something about Twos car but it was getting an oil change and some needed washing at the DX and not in the driveway

You sat on the end of the couch your spot everyone knew not to sit in watching as the gang argued in Chaos hell even Darry did a little hollerin to get his point across. The only who sat off the loop beside you was Johnny sighing for the fifth time In one hour

Being silent and deadly was sooo fun
