Mandalorians!

Their culture is an integral part to the clones, especially the older generation clones like Cody and Rex, I'd like to know more about how they fit into this universe and how they contribute to it.

Everything from their songs (which they ahve a lot of) to their weapons (again, they have quite a bit of this). How does beskar fit into all this? What of the Kryze sisters and Korkie? And Death Watch? Jango and Boba Fett? The Cuy'val Dar and how they trained the troopers?

Oh! And what about our beloved Kamas?

Just...splurge about the Mandos to me

:DDDDDD YESSS SO MANY QUESTIONS LET ME ANSWER THEM ALL

Okay! So. Part one. Mandos. Let's go. I'm gonna zero in on a few specific things about Mandalorian culture here, because across the AU I tend not to change a lot of established, canon lore in terms of detraction. I (usually) operate on a policy of "keep everything that's canon, adapt certain things to fit a fantasy aesthetic rather than a science fiction one, and add whatever I think is cool". For an example of what I mean by this, I'd advise you to go check out my post about Togrutas in the AU.

With this being said, that means that the established Mandalorian culture is pretty much the same as in canon. Therefore, I am choosing to highlight the additions I have made and several adaptations to existing cultural items and practices.

One more thing to keep in mind: as made abundantly clear by this point, in HFSW the Mandalorians are based upon Ancient Rome. I cannot promise complete historical accuracy, in fact I will go so far as to not promise any historical accuracy, but as a Latin student, history buff, and the co-consul of my school's Latin Club, it was too perfect an opportunity for me to resist.

Art Forms: Other than their beskar, the Mandalorians are famed for one other art form: their gorgeous stained glass. (This was actually one of the very first things I knew I wanted to add to the AU.) Ever since the island was cursed so many years ago in the Jedi-Mandalorian Crusades and turned mostly to a barren wasteland of sand, the people of Mandalore and its surrounding island territories put their hallmark resilience to the front again: they melted it down and made something of it. Combine that with traditional Mandalorian Color Symbolism, and the glass became almost as important as the beskar'gam itself. By the time of the Clone Wars, it can be found in use for practical purposes (glassware such as cups and vases, as well as the domes of Mandalore Proper's famed domed cities), art (windows and even blown-glass sculptures), and jewelry (some of the more crafty have even found ways to work it into their armor), to name a few examples. In addition, and especially under Satine's rule, other forms of the arts flourish on Mandalore Proper and its island territories, such as frescoes, mosaics, architecture, and theatre.

Gear and Weaponry, specifically Jet Packs: The beskar'gam is still the most important aspect of Mandalorian culture, although- unfortunately- I haven't actually had the time to design what it would look like for the AU yet. (I'm working on it.) It's still made of beskar, beskar is still only found on Mandalorian islands, armorers are still the ones in charge of its creation and maintenance, et cetera. Mandalorians fight with almost all weaponry found under the sun, although the vast majority of them favor spears and javelins, or knives (mostly daggers, although throwing knives are not unheard of). The Darksaber has a serrated blade, and due to its being forged of beskar, when ignited by a force-sensitive it crackles with lightning rather than fire. Jet packs (haven't thought of an appropriately fantasy name for them yet) are a creation of the Mandalorians, and are- essentially- fully-jointed, mechanical wings mounted on a harness. It's very cool. I shall have art of it for you soon, when I actually get around to designing beskar'gam. (As for your question about kamas: I'm gonna answer that when I get around to the more Clone-centric asks. I didn't forget, I'm just saving it for later)

Songs: Mandalorian songs are of wide and varied style and genre, from ballads to elegies to rousing tavern-songs, and every kind in-between. They are written in Basic, Mando'a, or Old Mando'a (though these are usually more traditional, ancient songs; with very few exceptions, more modern songs are not composed in Old Mando'a). I will talk more about songs, though, when I get to your more Clone-centric questions, because song is a hugely important part of Clone Culture in this AU and I want to do most of the heavy lifting there.

Im really so glad that Alastor is actually protecting the hotel and all people in it, hes probably doing it just because he have no choice, but i really hope that he do care about Charlie n everyone else. Also their fighting outfits is really cool. AND THE ANIMATIONS WHEN HE TOOK HIS DEMON FORM WAS SOOOO COOL, IT WAS LIKE IN 3D (maybe it actually was in 3d idk-)

Okay yknow.. When Adam blasted (idk if thats a correct word for that) at Alastor n broke his michrophone and Als voice became so clear, like, without any radio effects, I actually thought that he lost all his abilities, cuz Adam is clearly stronger than Al, and i got so scared becuz that would mean that he wont be able to protect the hotel anymore and maybe even die... But it didnt happen so its all good!!

Also Vox watching this whole fight being so exited for Als death was kinda funny to watch.

Okay.... I dont wanna cry again so can i not talk about sir Pentious? Thank you. All i gotta say, I really happy he managed to confess his feelings to Cherri before he... yknow...

Yk english is not my first language so i probably missed alot what he said in that, but i clearly remember that he said something bout his wings n i was like WHAAAAT????? I know i probably just heard it wrong, cuz HE JUST CANT BE AN ANGEL RIGHT?... RIGHT??? He also said smt bout his freedom, so yeah, I think the wings was just a metaphor. But overall he looked really scared for some reason, which is actually so weird. Its so weird to see Alastor actually being scared..

ALSO WE FINALLY SAW LILITH, but sadly didnt hear her voice. N what is weird, it looked like she was on sorta vacathion, and Lute talked with her bout Adam being Killed AND THATS SO WEIRD AHHH I CANT WAIT TO FIND OUT WHAT IS HER ROLE IN ALL HERE!!

Ice Time Travels AU pretty please with a cherry on top?

EHEHEHEHE you've got it, Anon! One of my favorite things about this fic is that Ice does NOT remember exactly what happened 30-something years ago, and so he's kind of winging it. Trying to keep things as close to what he remembers as he can, but--well. :DDDDDD

Ice looks Mav over as he shakes his hand. God, he looks young. A bit wary now, too—Ice wonders what Goose has been filling his head with. “Congratulations on Top Gun,” he says.

“Thank you,” Mav says back, smiling tightly. He’s sizing Ice up, trying to figure out his play.

Ice is pretty sure that last time, this is where he leaned in. Do you need some help?

He doesn’t remember exactly how this goes.

“I hear you flew with Cougar,” he settles on. Maybe he can ease his way around to it—

Mav stiffens right up. Fuck. “Yeah, I did,” he says.

“Good man,” Ice tries. He said something like that last time, right? “We were like brothers in flight school. Was a shame he couldn’t make it—”

Mav’s eyes narrow further. Shit.

“There’re a lot of rumors about it,” Ice backpedals. “Hard to tell what to believe. Wouldn’t mind hearing the story from the source.”

“That’s classified, gents,” Goose interjects, throwing an arm around Mav’s shoulders. “You’ll have to let your own imaginations fill in our daring dos.” He winks, and knocks his beer bottle into Mav’s.

Mav relaxes, just a bit. “Yeah. Sorry, Iceman, you know how it goes.”

God damn it, Ice thinks. Work with me here! Outwardly, he shrugs, shifting his weight. “I’ll hear about it eventually, probably,” he says.

“At least we all know that you boys’re here filling Cougar’s spot,” Slider adds.

Goose stiffens. “Hey there, we earned these spots. They’re ours—”

Ice smiles. There we go. That’s an opening. “Yeah,” he says. “That’s what I heard this morning, too. Something about figuring out who’s the best pilot.”

He shifts, leans up against the bar—not crowding Mav, trying to keep his body language relaxed. “Can probably help you there, if you want.”

it’s that time of year

time to talk about Comment Etiquette :DDDD

I know i know it’s a very fun thing to talk about and we all love to hear the same advice and requests over and over and Over again.

But maybe if everyone would just listen to the advice we wouldn’t be here, so let’s begin :DDDDDD

(Disclaimer, comments are wonderful. Authors love comments. And most comments are lovely and non problematic. But authors do not love rude comments. Especially me.)

1. This is the oldest one in the book but for the love of Philza. Don’t ask for updates. And don’t ask if a work is abandoned when it’s literally a week since it’s been updated. Like... some fics take six months to update. (If you want updates, just give a long comment about Why you like the fic so much you want an update. that is much more likely to motivate unpaid fanfic authors)

2. If someone doesn’t ask for constructive crit in the end notes, Before leaving your critical comment on their work, first comment “can i give constructive crit”. If someone EXPLICITLY says no constructive crit, for philza’s sake, don’t give them constructive crit. And yes, constructive crit IS in fact “i dont think blank should have happened” or “you got this wrong”. (Note: there’s a difference between constructive crit and telling someone they are being offensive. You can always educate someone when they are being offensive).

3. If the fic is a ONESHOT, do not ask for a second part. At best, you should just say “man wouldn’t it be cool if in the future of this universe something something happens.” Maybe you can inspire the author, maybe you can’t.

4. IF YOU ARE CONFUSED ABOUT SOMETHING: first, check the end notes. There’s a chance the thing you’re confused about is explained in the notes. If not, please just use ONE question mark. look at these two questions.

Why is Tommy blond? /gq Why is Tommy blond???

Which one of these sounds polite, and which one of these sound rude and demanding. Finally, if your final reaction about a fic is “i have no idea what just happened”, maybe try REREADING the chapter. If you still dont know what happened, once again, ask Politely with tone indicators.

5. On that note, TONE INDICATORS ARE EVERYTHING. Everyone is different and some can understand typing tone better than others, but others Need tone indicators. Especially the /pos and /neg.

6. If a fic has typos, please only tell the author about the IMPORTANT ones (and only if the author like doesn’t already have a boundary against typo reports). if you know a word is “seen” and it’s spelled “Scene” it really doesn’t matter. However, if you read a sentence like “Dream only never hurt them” instead of “Dream only ever hurt them”, those are two very different meanings. The author will probably want to know about that.

7. This is a more personal nitpick but... when you comment on a fic can you at least... talk about the fic a little bit? Don’t just leave a list of typos. Don’t discuss how your day went.

8. READ THE END NOTES. I have more than once gotten a BUNCH of comments about the same thing because people didn’t read the end notes.

9. Unless the author asks, do not ask the author to write things. This bothers me less than with other authors but like... don’t write a paragraph on stuff you would like to see happen. You can say “oh it would be cool if BLANK”. You should not say “You’d better do BLANK.” or “Could you please do BLANK.” Unless the author asks

10. The author is not responsible for your mental health. If something in the fic is triggering to you, and the author appropriately tagged it, do not tell the author you got a panic attack. It makes the author feel bad for something out of their control.

11. EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT BOUNDARIES. if something really bothers an author, it’s likely they tell you not to comment that way in the end notes. So, please, respect boundaries. If the author says “don’t use my username”, don’t use their username. Once again, read the end notes.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk. Once again, I’d like to reiterate that a lot of comments are great and don’t do these things. I really do appreciate everyone who comments, but authors need to take care of their mental health too, and rude comments on something they are making for the community for FREE are unhelpful.

✨ Tsar’s full name, plus titles, is Sukendi General Batsarnai Fyoklovchen Qinling of Sar-Arlencaith. It includes their titles by marriage and military, their full first name (genuinely only ever used in formal settings), a matronymic for their mom Fyokla, their father’s surname, and the land they rule. They definitely prefer just Tsar. Or, if you’re friends or family, Tsarya.

✨ Ema’s biology and behavior are birdlike, even in human form. Hollow bones, no mammary glands of any sort, a cloaca rather than mammalian genitalia, and even the extra set of chest muscles to flap their wings, which are necessarily vestigial in full human form. They get broody, they preen, they even get overly alert and HAVE jumped off things after forgetting they’re not in any winged form; no they haven’t; yes they have; no ❤️

✨ Esben is the most carnivorous of the four kids, surprisingly. Erdene is the most omnivorous. They even have a taste for bamboo like their Baba and their Gong-Gong.

BnHA Chapter 267: My Name Is

Previously on BnHA: Hawks stabbed Twice in the back of the head. Twice stabbed another guy in the back of the head. Everyone’s just running around stabbing or being stabbed. I should probably clarify that Twice actually died, because this is a shounen manga, so sometimes you have to clarify that this particular stabbing was actually fatal. Not just one of those flesh wound stabbings. Anyway so it was super sad, and now Dabi’s gonna face off with the sexy scarred murderous Hawks, and Toga and Compress are also going to be feeling a bit stabby after all this probably, and so that’s the general mood here I guess. I kind of need a break now so I’m wondering if we’re gonna cut to any of the kids. Because if we stick around Horikoshi may actually have to give us Dabi flashbacks. God forbid.

Today on BnHA: Tokoyami has a flashback to when Hawks told him he’s weak to being set on fire. This terrible thought weighs on his mind as he and the other lads and lasses of U.A.’s child soldier vanguard are escorted away from the battle via Fatgum and his absolute goat of a quirk. one-and-a-half year-old Kaminari Denki has already fallen asleep. he wishes he could live there. I wish I had the words to adequately convey how utterly delighted I have been by this entire “everyone rides around in Fatgum’s belly” mini-arc, which is now my favorite part of the entire series (as always with the exception of “Dear Midoriya I’m really sorry”)

and I also just really love the timing of it?? right after the “here’s that angst you ordered” emotional sobfest of the last chapter, we’re taking a quick break to cut back to the Fatgum Express (excuse me, Fataxi) just to keep things from getting too heavy. this is such an important balance to strike. please don’t let this arc get too dark, Horikoshi

Falcon and Winter Soldier 1x05

So that was my favorite episode so far!! :DDD

Oof, that fight with Walker. It was just kind of grim and miserable to me tbh, and I very nearly fast-forwarded through it. There’s probably something to be said about how Walker makes Sam and Bucky wrest the shield from him by force: something something white privilege doesn’t relinquish its power easily, but it was by far the least interesting part of the episode. Sam’s face though as he tried to wipe the blood off the shield :(

Also ISAIAH. That scene hurt. Isaiah did the EXACT SAME THING Steve did, only he didn’t get made Captain America and handled an elite commando squad for it, he got sent to prison :( Isaiah’s whole story parallels both Steve’s and Bucky’s, like he got all the same heroism Steve had, but got no reward for it other than all the suffering Bucky had. And of course that’s inextricable from the way this country treats Black men. Isaiah’s bitterness is understandable, but so too is Sam’s desire to see it made right, however it can be. Sam can’t help Isaiah now, but he can try to redeem the shield.

Bucky finding Zemo and showily NOT killing him, lol Bucky, you drama queen. Nice of Zemo to be like “oh, I don’t want to kill you” I guess! Also re Zemo being on Bucky’s list and lol Zemo crossing himself off: I don’t think this was amends so much for Bucky, other than how obviously catching Zemo again is making amends to Ayo, but it’s more of a tying up a loose thread thing for Bucky.

Also after all that Ayo and Bucky drama I was delighted that she was more or less like “we’re good” this week lololol. Still like “maybe steer clear of Wakanda for a bit” but then she called him White Wolf again and seemed happy enough. I’m very relieved because I was weirdly stressed about this dangling out there without resolution. I need to know SO MUCH MORE about this relationship though!!! Idk that I ship it, but in like four scenes we’ve gotten so much possibility!

SAM AND BUCKY :DDDDDDD lol FINALLY they talked! In addition to still being all about the gestures, I SEE YOU, BUCKY, WITH YOUR ACTS OF SERVICE LOVE LANGUAGE :DDDDDDD Working on the boat together (MY SHIP ON A SHIP LOLOLOL)! Bucky bring Sam a new pair of wings! Bucky staying at Sam and Sarah’s! Bucky and Sarah low-key flirting while Sam is >:( about it :DDDDDD And FINALLY they used their words!!!! I’m so happy ;______; there was such warmth in their rapport this episode, and I loved their banter about not being coworkers or a team, but just a couple of guys :DDD like, it could’ve sounded grumpy, but in context, it was so much just them shooting the shit, I loved it.

Loved too that Bucky apologized, though this presents the somewhat hilarious timeline of Bucky basically storming off after they get Walker, going after Zemo, making up with Ayo, presumably having a nice long think and time to cool off, then being like “oh okay, I have Fucked Up, time to make it right,” and then he proceeds to do so in EXCESSIVE fashion. Oh and nice to get confirmation that Steve didn’t just fuck off to another timeline without talking to Bucky about it.

Also perfect: Sam asking Bucky if he’s ready for some tough love and Bucky being like, sure, and then Sam proceeding to be 100000% more helpful than Bucky’s therapist. I liked that a) Sam engaged Bucky on his own terms, he didn’t tell Bucky to stop with the amends making or that he didn’t have to do it, he just cut to the heart of why Bucky was doing it and offered him an alternative way to go about it that would make him and everyone involved less miserable. (ACTS OF SERVICE, again, both from Sam and in what Sam’s telling Bucky to do.) And thank you to Sam for pointing out to Bucky that Bucky’s been letting other people define him. I wanted more on that score, especially in the confrontation with Zemo, but at least it gets called out here.

Another very important thing to me: BUCKY SMILED. MULTIPLE TIMES. PLEASE CONTINUE TO BRING ME THIS BUCKY BARNES BEING REASONABLY HAPPY ENERGY THROUGH THE LAST EPISODE PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

All the Sam and Sarah scenes were SO GOOD too. They have such good sibling chemistry, and I love seeing how Sarah is just as kind and good as Sam is, if in a different way.

Oh wait, I almost forgot: lol so is Sharon the Power Broker, or is she playing a deeper game? Or is she in fact straight up just trying to KILL Sam now??? lololol what a character twist. It’s so wild I’m not even mad about it.
