#WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE THIS I NEED TO KILL HIM

Now that I have sat with my thoughts for a couple of days, I want to talk about some things:
There are too many people trying to defend Caitlyn's actions, so I have to say: NOTHING, and I mean absolutely nothing, justifies fascism. "Oh but she's grieving and blahblahblah" you know who else was grieving?! The mother of the kid Jayce killed in season 1. You know who else?! Vi and Powder that saw enforcers murder their parents, just like many other children from Zaun. Caitlyn destroyed her mother's legacy in the police brutalityâąïž operation, you understand how fucked up this is? Her mother's recording is saying "the people from Zaun deserve to breathe," and she did it anyways. If you sympathise with Piltover, you're either part of the problem or naĂŻve enough to fall for fascist propaganda.
Ekko is the only real one. Not a single slightly evil bone in his body. Everything he does, he does for his people, not in a persuit of power, or revenge. He's genuinely good, so much so that he's willing to hang out with not only Heimerdinger, but also Jayce just so he could protect his community. He deserves so much better and I'll be heartbroken when he finds out that Vi was involved in Caitlyn's operation.
I don't know how Vi can forgive Caitlyn after what happened. I know I wouldn't. It just goes to show that you cannot trust that privileged people are going to be different just cause they were nice to you. Viktor found that out in season 1 and Vi is finding this out now.
Do you guys think the black rose is gonna pretend to be Mel?! I don't play LOL, but it is to my understanding that the black rose can make clones, so it'd be obvious that they're gonna take Mel's identity
Saw some people on twitter and tiktok (of course they were there) denying that jayvik has heavy romantic undertones by stating "they're friends! They're like brothers! Why everything has to be gay now?" and EVERYTHING HAS TO BE GAY CAUSE I SAID SO, NOW SHUT UP! But seriously though, I understand that to cishet viewers, their relationship might seem strictly platonic, 'cause they lack the eye that we, queer people, have for these things. And that's okay. Not everyone needs to understand the nuances of a homoerotic friendship. But in the same breath, they're quick to say that "Viktor was thinking about Sky, so obviously he's straight" and that pissed me off, cause: 1 - have you looked at him?; 2 - He feels responsible for her death (cause he was)! He's thinking about her because he feels GUILTY! that man was not interested in Sky whatsoever; 3 - it's so heteronormative to think that a man and a woman can't be friends, they're so adamant in denying jayvik cause "they're friends!" but they do the same fucking thing!; and finally 4 - HAVE YOU LOOKED AT HIM???
Anyone that sides with Piltover would probably be a zionist as well. I don't have to explain this.
The trio "Sevika, Jinx and Isha" is probably my favourite thing in Act 1, I just can't get enough of them.

đ„Č With the way my period went last week, this fic was on my brain constantly. But my god, Bug, I needed time to digest this masterpiece. (I've also saved various of your other works in my drafts to comment on later. I apologize for the reblog spam that is about to happen.)
Kay, now. Let's dive in, shall we? đ„°
Joel wakes up early the next morning and greets you with a kiss pressed to the side of your head. âFuck off,â you mumble, your voice is still thick with sleep but he knows you mean it so he lets you sleep in a bit while he cleans the bathroom for you. He works as quietly as he can, scrubbing it and mopping it from top to bottom. He empties the trash can and the laundry hamper, he makes sure thereâs a fresh bar of soap and a new washrag for you. Joelâs just finishing up and wiping dust from the mirror when you find him in the bathroom. âMorninâ, sunshine,â he says as he kisses the top of your head. âHow do you feel?â
What a sweet, sweet, kind man. If I woke up to a freshly cleaned bathroom while on my period, I'd probably cry.
âI didnât ask you to do that,â you mumble. âThe bleach you used makes my head hurt worse.â
đ„Č Ma'am. I get it. But. The sweet man.
If looks could fuckinâ kill, Joel thinks. Youâre glaring at him. He takes that as his cue to leave. You shrink away from him as he gently brushes your arm when he walks past, then shut the door loudly behind him. Ouch. Joel knows not to take it personally, though. Youâre crampy, but youâre also probably hungry. Heâll make you breakfast, something with protein because he knows you need it.Â
Sorry, did you say saint??? Saint Joel???
âI didnât hear ya, sweetheart. Speak up, please.â âI said yes,â you snap. Your clipped tone cuts like a knife. Joel bites his inner cheek as he takes your plate from you.
đ« The disrespect. The bitten cheek. (Loved that bit. His annoyance is growing, but he's still keeping his cool. Again, did someone say saint??)
âNo. I donât care,â you interrupt, which hurts Joelâs feelings a little. A lot, actually.
S' OKAY, SWEET BABY. C'MERE. MAMA'S GOT YOU.
âYour glasses broke.â âYeah. I see that.â âI didnât mean to,â you tell him defensively. âRight.â âBut you really shouldnât leave your glasses there, Joel.â
Breaking the silence, Joel finally clears his throat and continues his thought, âIâm gonna give you two options,â Joel says. âYou can walk the fuck away from me, or you can get on your knees. Whichever you choose, you do so silently. Nod if you understand.âÂ
âYouâve earned yourself brownie points choosinâ the latter of the two options, but this still ainât gonna be fun for you,â he says.
S' okay đ„Č I was a bitch đ„Č I deserve it đ„Č Do with me as you please đ„Čđ„Čđ„Č
He draws out of your mouth entirely only to force his way back in, making you gag and sputter. You attempt to pull away but Joel keeps his hand firm on your head and holds you right where he wants you. âNuh-uh. I donât know where you think youâre goinâ, hon.â
âQuiet,â he growls. âHeard fuckinâ enough outta you today. You keep quiet.â
đ«Ą Sir yes, sir.
âLet it be a lesson to ya, then, if it hurts. That mouth âa yours has done nothinâ but bitch and moan at me today. Sâa punishment, ainât âsposed to feel good.â
I have really bad news for you, then. Ahem.
âBecause if I donât fuck you,â he says, âThen Iâm gonna strangle you. So which would you like?â
âI will wash the fucking sheets. We can add it to the list of all the things Iâve done for ya today, hm?â
Ohhh, he's done done. I just *loved* this bit. The frustration, how fed up he is with the reader. Suddenly you're concerned about causing a little bit of work? Oh, hohoho, no no no. Too fucking late.
Joel had assumed sexual frustration had been playing a role in your attitude today. Cramps, headaches, all sorts of things going on with you and a needy, aching pussy to boot. He does feel sorry for you, but he feels sorry for himself too. Itâs why he got his first, but now itâs time for you to get yours. An orgasm should set you straight, or two or three. Whatever he feels is necessary.Â
đ© Ma'am. Please. I can only take so much. The hotness in just this ONE paragraph. PLEASE. đ© "An orgasm should set you straight, or two or three. Whatever he feels is necessary." đ„Č I am a puddle on the floor.
Joel takes his free hand and uses it to press down on your lower stomach, intensifying the feeling of it all. You come hard, gushing on his fingers as you whimper his name.
đ« đđ« đ
âQuiet,â he commands. He begins teasing your slit with his cock once more before he speaks, âSo this is what weâre gonna do: youâre gonna take what I give you, however much or little it is. Youâre not gonna cry or complain âcause youâve done enough of that today. Right?â Joel pauses, âNod your head.â
âI know, I know, sweetheart,â he coos at you to quiet you down. âYouâre all out of sorts today. Mâgonna fix it. I always fix it, donât I?â
*inhales* - *screams*
He fucks you without discipline, no tenderness at all to the action with those sloppy thrusts, but youâre more lost in him than he is in you - heâs focused on your face, watching you make an âOâ with your mouth, and heâs focused on your bouncing body, your twitching thighs spread wide. Your moans, your whimpers and your whines, babbling nothing but nonsense. Joelâs brow is furrowed as he breathes heavily through his teeth, his soft body jerking above you as he hits that sweet spot inside you over and over and over⊠âItâs all ya needed, isnât it? The whole goddamn time,â he pants. âDidnât need to go anâ bitch me out all day if you needed lovinâ like this. Woulda been nice fâya just said so.â
đ¶ I have died and am now reading this from the depth of hell. Fuuuuck me!
âAlways the tears with you, huh?â he taunts. âAlways somethinâ. Oh, I know. I know.âÂ
The fucking "I know"s kill me. Like, I didn't know two simple words like that could do the things to me that they're doing. But here we are. Is that a kink? Is there an "I know" kink? I think I have it.
âYouâre gonna tell me what you need,â he instructs, âAnd youâre gonna ask for it. Nicely. So that means usinâ your manners. Please, Joel. Thank you, Joel. Remember those words?â
Youâre surprised when he returns to you, pelvis covered in your blood, and scoops you right up in his arms. He helps you to your feet and on shaky legs, guides you to the bathroom. It no longer smells like bleach but instead, lavender. Heâs got a candle lit on the sink and the bathtub is filled with warm, bubbly water. âPicked out a bubble bath for you earlier when I went out. Wanna test it out with me?â
đđđ SAY IT WITH ME: JOEL MILLER IS A FUCKING SAINT. A SAINT THAT FUCKS, BUT A SAINT NONETHELESS.
Christ on a cracker, this was delicious from start to finish. I think you have had a lasting impact on how I see (and am trying to write) smut. đźâđšđźâđšđźâđš
Thank you indeed. đ A masterpiece!!!!
Seeing Red
âBecause if I donât fuck you,â he says, âThen Iâm gonna strangle you. So which would you like?â
Joelâs sorry that your period sucks, but he's reached the end of his rope with your attitude. (6k)

You should have guessed thereâd be a bloodstain in your underwear, but despite the headaches, your sore breasts, and your cramping abdomen, youâre surprised when youâre met with rusty red in your panties. Fucking great, you whisper, dripping with sarcasm, this is not what you needed today. You had so many things you wanted to get done and now you were going to be spending the whole day miserable and in pain.
âJoel,â you loudly call out. You wait a beat, nothing. âJOEL,â you yell louder.Â
You hear the faint sound of his recliner, the popping of his knees and the creaking of the stairs as he walks up them. His two feet are visible through the space between the floor and the bathroom door and then he knocks, âWhatcha need, darlinâ?â
âNew underwear,â you answer. âAnd a pad. Also in the underwear drawer.âÂ
Joel walks away and returns with what youâve asked for and slides both items under the door. You change your panties and secure the pad made of old rags and t-shirts with the clothespin attached to it. âYou got it?â he asks.
âYeah,â you reply.
âGuessinâ you just started your cycle, then.âÂ
âMhm.âÂ
âCan I get you anything?â
âNope,â you answer. âI think Iâm just gonna go to bed.âÂ
âAlright. Iâll join you, then.âÂ
You wash your hands and rinse the bloodstain out of your panties with annoyance in the sink, wringing them out before tossing them in the dirty laundry hamper in the bathroom. When you unlock the door and leave the bathroom, Joelâs already asleep in your shared bed. He sleeps curled on his side and yet he still fucking snores - between that and the pain youâre in, you know it wonât be a restful night of sleep. You look at Joel, sleeping peacefully like a baby, and yet you wanna beat the living fucking crap out of him. You curl your body around his, stealing his body heat to soothe your cramps.Â
Joelâs just finishing up and wiping dust from the mirror when you find him in the bathroom. âMorninâ, sunshine,â he says as he kisses the top of your head. âHow do you feel?âÂ
âShitty.â You grab at the mirror and Joelâs skin crawls as you touch the glass with your thumb, the smudges left behind from your fingertips clear as day on the freshly cleaned glass. Heâll just touch it up later. You pull out your toothbrush and frown, your nose scrunched in disgust. âIt smells like bleach in here,â you complain.
âWell, yeah,â Joel chuckles. âI just cleaned it for ya. âCourse it smells like bleach.â
âI didnât ask you to do that,â you mumble. âThe bleach you used makes my head hurt worse.â
âOh,â Joel scratches the back of his head and frowns. âMâsorry, then. Well, we can let it air out for a while, weâll leave the fan on. Shouldnât smell for more than a day or so.â
âYeah, I guess.â
If looks could fuckinâ kill, Joel thinks. Youâre glaring at him. He takes that as his cue to leave. You shrink away from him as he gently brushes your arm when he walks past, then shut the door loudly behind him. Ouch. Joel knows not to take it personally, though. Youâre crampy, but youâre also probably hungry. Heâll make you breakfast, something with protein because he knows you need it.Â
He cleans the kitchen first. He washes the dirty dishes you mustâve forgotten about last night and wipes crumbs from the table. As you come downstairs dressed in sweats and a shirt you stole from Joel, heâs finishing up making your breakfast. âSit down, I made your favorite.âÂ
You sit down at the table with your head in your hands. Joel puts a plate with two slices of perfectly golden brown toast and two over-easy eggs in front of you, then a fork and a knife on either side. He fills a glass with water for you as well. He walks away to clean up the stove, then turns around to check on you. Your face is contorted in disgust and youâre not eating. âWhatâs the matter?â
âI donât want this,â you grouse.
âBut sâyour favorite. You love your eggs over easy,â Joel says. âAnd the toast, thatâs fresh bread and butter. Eat up.âÂ
âYeah, but I wanted scrambled.âÂ
Joel stares at you for a moment, dumbfounded. You usually hate scrambled eggs, and he knows this. But youâre not smirking or holding back laughter like youâre fucking with him. So maybe your tastes have changed, who knows. âOkay. Would you like me to make you scrambled eggs instead, then?â
âYes,â you mumble in a small voice.Â
âI didnât hear ya, sweetheart. Speak up, please.âÂ
âI said yes,â you snap.Â
Your clipped tone cuts like a knife. Joel bites his inner cheek as he takes your plate from you. He quickly scarfs down the perfectly cooked eggs and toast as he makes you a new plate of breakfast, this time with scrambled eggs. He places it in front of you with a little less care than before and waits for you to take a bite. âBetter?â
âJust okay.âÂ
âJust okayâ. Of course you think itâs âjust okayâ, theyâre scrambled fucking eggs - which you donât like. Youâre just being -Â
Joel needs to cool off. Hopefully once youâve eaten youâre a little less irritable. âIâm gonna head out anâ do some errands. Be back shortly,â Heâs met with no answer from you, which he expected.Â
-
He comes back an hour or so later with a few things from the market heâs been needing along with a couple of VHS tapes that he rented from the library. âSo,â Joel says, âI picked out some movies for ya.â He lays four tapes down on the coffee table in front of the couch where you lay. âWhen Harry Met Sally, thatâs a good one,â he begins, âNext is How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days, then Blade Runner, and I picked out My Cousin Vinny,â Joel says. He thinks youâre gonna pick out Blade Runner because it stars Harrison Ford, who he knows you have a thing for. âMy Cousin Vinny is pretty good, I donât think weâve seen that one yet fâya wanna give that a try.â
âMmm, no.âÂ
Shot down. âOkay. How âbout Blade Runner, then. Sâgot Indiana Jones in -â
âNo. I donât care,â you interrupt, which hurts Joelâs feelings a little. A lot, actually. âI wanna watch this one,â you point to How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days. âHeâs cute.âÂ
Of course you picked the Matthew McConaughey movie. God, Joel fucking hated him. He always seemed so skeezy, if thereâs anyone who shouldâve bit it on Outbreak Day, it shouldâve been Matthew McConaughey. âYeah, okay. Whatever. Do you think heâs dreamy too?â
âFuck off, Joel.âÂ
So teasingâs off the table too, heâll add that to the list of things that have pissed you off today. Joel turns on the TV and puts the tape in the VHS player before he sits back down next to you. At first you rest on his shoulder, then you spread out and lay your head on his lap. Itâs not long before you fall asleep on Joel, leaving him to watch this dumb fucking movie all by himself because god forbid he move you and disrupt your nap. He knows better than to do that.Â
-
âSo fuckinâ stupid,â Joel whispers to himself as the movie plays, though he did find himself enjoying the part where the Kate Hudson sings âYouâre So Vainâ by Carly Simon. He always did like that song.Â
âMmmm,â you groan, shifting onto your back. Joelâs hand is stroking your hair as you look up at him, but you push it away. âYouâre too close to me,â you grumble.Â
âWhatâre you talkinâ about?âÂ
âYouâre crowding me. I feel smothered.âÂ
Joel scoffs. âOh, you feel smothered? Youâre the one who laid on me.â Once again, your glare is all that you need to say. âAlright then, Iâll move.â Joel concedes. He lifts your head gently and scoots down to the opposite end of the couch. And then he hears you huff. âWhat?â
âWell, now I donât have a pillow.âÂ
Joel sighs as he gets up to grab a throw pillow from the opposite couch.Â
âThe other one.âÂ
Youâre referring to the other throw pillow thatâs absolutely indistinguishable from the one currently in Joelâs hand, but he gets it for you anyway. âLift your head,â he says softly, putting the pillow under you. He sits back down in the spot you made him move to as you both watch the movie play, but your soft groans interrupt. Youâre no doubt in pain from all the cramps right now. âIâve got somethinâ like a heating pad,â Joel says, looking at you. âSâa big sock filled with rice, I heat it up and use it for neck and back pain. Would that help with them cramps?â You nod without making any effort to meet Joelâs eyes, which he finds a little rude. But still, youâre hurting. Heâll give you grace.Â
So, once again, Joel gets up for you. He goes upstairs to get his rice sock from his nightstand, then comes back downstairs and heats it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. He pokes the sock to make sure itâs plenty warm for you and then gives it to you to take. âHere,â he says, âHold it on your tummy.â
âJESUS,â you yell at him.Â
âWhat?â
âItâs too fucking hot, Joel, why would you make it so hot?âÂ
âJust give it a second, sweetheart, youâll get used to it.âÂ
âNo. It was burning me.âÂ
âOkay, then let me have it and weâll let it cool off a minute. Christ almighty.â Joel takes the sock back from you, and he knows his hands are pretty calloused butâŠit doesnât feel that hot. When a few minutes have passed, he gives it back to you. âThis should be better.âÂ
You lay the big, warm stuffed sock across your stomach and frown. âItâs not warm enough.âÂ
âYou have gotta be kiddinâ me.âÂ
âMm-mm,â you shake your head, giving Joel back his sock like you just assume heâll heat it up again for you.Â
âJust a couple minutes ago you screamed bloody murder about it burninâ you. And now itâs not hot enough?â
âYeah, thatâs what I said.â When Joel doesnât jump immediately to reheat the sock for you, you look at him impatiently. âJoel.âÂ
âYou can ask, you know.âÂ
But Joel gets the hint and gets up for you a third time to reheat the sock heâs letting you borrow. You donât say please, and when he returns with the sock reheated, thereâs no thank you either. What does he get from you? âItâs too hot.â
âThen tell me how I should rectify that for you, because last time I let it cool off and it wasnât warm enough for ya after.âÂ
âI donât know,â you snap. âYouâre just really upsetting me right now. Everything hurts and your voice is grating.â
âIâm upsetting you?â Joel repeats your words back to you. âAnd my voice is grating.âÂ
âYes.âÂ
Heâs about at his wits end. âYou know, youââ Joel decides not to finish that sentence. Instead, he sighs as he pinches the bridge of his nose and breathes out on the count of five. âTwo, three, fourâŠYou need to drink some water. Sâyour first issue, youâre probably dehydrated. Did you drink any water?âÂ
âItâs not your business.â
Jesus fucking Christ. âOkay, well Iâm makinâ it my business.â Joel gets up for the fourth goddamn time and slams the cup cabinet before filling a glass with water from the sink. He marches back to the couch, âSit up,â he says. âDrink.âÂ
âI donât want to,â you whine.Â
âItâll fix your headache. Drink.âÂ
âIt wonât actually, thatâs a myth.âÂ
âRight, what do I know when youâve got an answer for fuckinâ everything. Drink.âÂ
You sit up, scowling at Joel as you take a sip.Â
âAll of it.âÂ
You drink the rest of it, glaring at him the whole time. Heâs so full of shit, as if any of what youâre going through could be fixed by drinking a glass of water. Water wonât fix your cramps, wonât fix your aching and sore back. When youâre done, you slam the glass on the end table next to you and in doing so, break Joelâs reading glasses. Oops. Didnât see those. The lenses arenât shattered, but one of the arms is all bent now. When you look at Joel, heâs biting his bottom lip and breathing deeply. âYour glasses broke.âÂ
âYeah. I see that.âÂ
âI didnât mean to,â you tell him defensively.
âRight.âÂ
âBut you really shouldnât leave your glasses there, Joel.â
âYeah, right. Shouldnât leave my glasses on the end table,â Joel says. âI should leave them where, exactly? Maybe the floor?âÂ
âSomewhere else.âÂ
âRight. Somewhere else.âÂ
Heâs hoping that by repeating your words back to you, you start to hear how absolutely ridiculous you sound. But you donât seem to. Joel turns and walks away before he fucking throttles you.Â
âCan you put on the next movie? I wanna watch My Cousin Vinny.â
Now, now you want to watch that movie. And Joelâs gonna miss out, because he canât stand to be around you for one minute longer. âAre your legs broken?âÂ
âYes.âÂ
Walked into that one. âYouâre fuckinâ impossible. Fine. Iâll put it on, then Iâm goinâ away for a bit.âÂ
âGood.â
Oh, he could fucking kill you. This whole day heâs heard nothing but complaints from your mouth, no pleases or thank youâs at all. Everything heâs done today has been for you, and you couldnât give a flying fuck.Â
Joel puts on the movie, grabs his bent glasses from the end table and heads out to the garage without saying a single word to you. You wonder what bug crawled up his ass.Â
-
My Cousin Vinny plays just fine until Vinny shows up in his ridiculous suit to the courthouse. The tape begins to skip a whole bunch, the movie barely making sense, and you have no idea how to fix it - not that itâs your job to know, anyway. So you call out the name of the man whose job it is.Â
âJoel.âÂ
No answer.Â
âJOELLLL,â you yell.Â
Same deal. You sigh as you sit up and get off of the couch, walking to the garage door. Thereâs finally a break in your cramps and youâre feeling halfway-human for the first time since yesterday. Entering the garage, you find Joel sitting at his workbench, heâs working on bending the frame of his glasses back into shape. âJoel.âÂ
He doesnât turn around to look at you and in fact, he heard you calling for him. He had just ignored you. âLooks like your legs are workinâ now,â Joel replies, without looking at you. âSâa miracle. Means you can follow me around now, terrific.â
You choose to ignore his sarcasm. âWhatever. You need to do something for me. The VCR is messing up and you have to fix it.â
âHm,â he hums.
âWhatâs hm?âÂ
âIâve fixed lotsa things for you today,â he says quietly. âI need some time to fix my glasses that you broke. Sâa difficult task on account of the fact I need my glasses to see.â
âYou can do me one favor, Joel. It wonât kill you.âÂ
Joel stops and gently places his broken glasses on his work bench. He turns to his right and glares daggers at you. âOne favor,â he scoffs. âOh, youâre a fuckinâ peach. You wanna try that again?â
âTry what again?âÂ
Youâre fucking with him. You have to be fucking with him. Why are you fucking with him? Youâre not antagonistic like this, not usually, so he concludes that you must be looking for a fight. At this point, Joel is too.Â
âIâve done you countless favors today, sweetheart,â Joel gripes.
âYeah, but-â you begin.
Joelâs large, warm hand suddenly covers the lower half of your face, silencing your argument. âIf the next words outta this mouth arenât thank you, then I donât wanna hear âem. In factâŠâ
He bites his inner cheek, nodding his head as he thinks. The way he stares at you, his dark eyes piercing through you - you feel the chill deep in your bones. A wave of clarity hits you as you recall some of the details of the day, the way Joel was there at every turn and while you were busy being cranky and achey, he was trying to wait on you hand and foot. Shit. Youâve been a Grade-A bitch to him all day, a total fucking cunt.
Breaking the silence, Joel finally clears his throat and continues his thought, âIâm gonna give you two options,â Joel says. âYou can walk the fuck away from me, or you can get on your knees. Whichever you choose, you do so silently. Nod if you understand.âÂ
Itâs like youâre watching a scene from a movie. You hear Joelâs words, but you almost donât believe theyâre real and so they donât quite register. He pulls his hand away from your face slowly. Your mouth falls open a bit but you donât say or do anything.
âNod. If. You. Understand.â You nod quickly. Joel awaits your decision as you look at the garage door and contemplate your clean way out from this situation, âSo whatâll it be?â he asks. Despite it all, that uneasy feeling in your gut, you drop to your knees anyway, eyes still lingering on the door before you look up at Joel. You trust him to take care of you and you think you might owe him this obedience after your behavior today. âYouâve earned yourself brownie points choosinâ the latter of the two options, but this still ainât gonna be fun for you,â he says. It should scare you - and it does - but youâre still thrilled by it, by the way he sighs and his knees crack as he gets off of his barstool, by the cold look in his eyes as he reaches under his thick belly to unbuckle his belt. Standing above you, he pulls out his half-hard cock and pumps it, feeling it grow to full length in his hand. Heâs thick, veiny, and generously sized, a pearly white bead of precum sits atop his slit. His cock is just an inch or two away from your mouth as he holds it between his fingers, his thumb on top and middle and forefingers on the underside. With his other hand, he cards his fingers through your hair and pulls you close, the tip of his cock pressing against your lips. âOpen.â
You part your lips open and with that, Joel pushes himself into your mouth inch by inch. You smell him first, that musky and heady sort of scent. Next, you taste the saltiness of his skin and his precome on your tongue and for a moment itâs pleasurable, with his cock halfway in your mouth. You wrap your hand around the end of his shaft like you know what he wants but you donât know, not really - Joel holds your hand in his own and squeezes it so that your knuckles grind against each other a little bit. He pushes himself further and you canât lick him or savor this like you wanted to, you just feel his cock intruding, sliding into your mouth. Joelâs testing you, making sure that you can handle all of him and if you canât, you know heâll make you.Â
He draws out of your mouth entirely only to force his way back in, making you gag and sputter. You attempt to pull away but Joel keeps his hand firm on your head and holds you right where he wants you. âNuh-uh. I donât know where you think youâre goinâ, hon.âÂ
Thereâs no gentleness to it, he fucks your mouth heatedly so that youâre drooling and choking on him, your eyes springing with tears as that pressure builds behind them. âBreathe through your nose,â he reminds you. âIn and out. You ainât done jusâ âcause youâre cryinâ.â Your lips are sore with the repeated action, your jaw is aching. He rolls his hips, his cock is deep down your throat as he relishes in your warm, wet mouth and the way it makes him feel.Â
âMmm,â you moan, youâre not sure if the noise is indicative of your pleasure or discomfort.
âQuiet,â he growls. âHeard fuckinâ enough outta you today. You keep quiet.â
Your nose is buried in that thatch of coarse curls as he rocks his hips over and over, his soft and pillowy tummy bouncing against your forehead. You squirm and whine as his tip teases the back of your throat and your mouth feels so full, uncomfortably so. Joel picks up on that. âLet it be a lesson to ya, then, if it hurts. That mouth âa yours has done nothinâ but bitch and moan at me today. Sâa punishment, ainât âsposed to feel good.âÂ
Heâs grunting and groaning, eyes screwed shut as he uses you, pumping in and out of your mouth. Your jaw aches with the brutality of the way he fucks your mouth, and just as you think you canât take anymore, you feel Joelâs cock begin to twitch and pulse. He comes in your mouth without a warning, painting your tongue with his hot spend. Itâs salty and bitter and warm on your tongue. Once youâve swallowed, Joel reaches down and yanks you up by your bicep. He thought fucking your mouth and coming down your throat would make him feel better but honestly, it doesnât. As he looks at your face, all puffy with tears and swollen lips, he canât quite find it in himself to let go of his anger. Not yet, at least. âLetâs go,â he grunts as he drags you with him towards the garage door. He marches you though the house and up the stairs.Â
âWhere are we going?â
âBedroom,â Joel growls, answering your question like itâs obvious. You suppose it should be, but you figured he was done with you. But heâs not. The regret begins to set in when you realize the retribution youâre about to be met with for the way youâve treated Joel today. Youâd be lying if you said that while wallowing in your pain you didnât notice how your curt tone got under his skin, hurt his feelings and frustrated him immensely. The dread you feel canât save you, itâs all too late now.Â
âBecause if I donât fuck you,â he says, âThen Iâm gonna strangle you. So which would you like?â
âFuck me,â you whisper.Â
âExactly.âÂ
Joel pushes you into the bedroom and locks the door behind himself. âLie down on your back,â he says.Â
You protest, âBut the sheets, Joel. The bloodââ
âI will wash the fucking sheets. We can add it to the list of all the things Iâve done for ya today, hm?â
When you donât jump at his request, Joel takes initiative. He pulls off your - his - shirt from your body and then bends you over the end of the neatly made bed, the old and worn comforter feels rough on the skin of your cheek. Joel pulls down your sweatpants and panties in one motion and then flips you over onto your back, your legs hanging off the end of the bed. You feel embarrassed when you catch a glimpse of your bloodied pad and underwear, moreso when you feel yourself making a mess on his bedding and between your legs.Â
âYou didnât make yourself come today, did you?â
âUhhââ you stutter. âI - IâŠâ
âNo point in gettinâ bashful now, darlinâ. Just gimme an answer.â
âNo,â you tell him. Itâs been a while.Â
âFigures.â
Joel had assumed sexual frustration had been playing a role in your attitude today. Cramps, headaches, all sorts of things going on with you and a needy, aching pussy to boot. He does feel sorry for you, but he feels sorry for himself too. Itâs why he got his first, but now itâs time for you to get yours. An orgasm should set you straight, or two or three. Whatever he feels is necessary.Â
Joel undresses himself before pushing your thighs apart and hitching your legs around his waist. Slowly, he slides his thumb through your folds and then circles your clit. He knows youâre vulnerable like this - bleeding pussy on display for him as you make a mess of his sheets. But heâs patient, and he massages your clit calmly until you finally let a moan, a little mmm slip. He smirks at that.Â
He pushes his middle two fingers inside you, pumping in and out slowly. He then curls his fingers, searching for that sweet spot on a woman he loves so much. âFuck,â you cry out, legs instinctually closing shut around him, and he knows heâs found it.Â
âDonât fight it,â he says, opening you back up. He curls his fingers and circles your clit in tandem, making all sorts of lewd noises with your cunt. He admires your body all laid out for him like this, your breasts and your pebbled nipples, soft tummy rising and falling with your breathy ohâs and ahhâs, thick curls framing your pretty pussy like a picture just for him. Joel takes his free hand and uses it to press down on your lower stomach, intensifying the feeling of it all. You come hard, gushing on his fingers as you whimper his name.Â
Joel pulls his fingers from your core and wipes them haphazardly on his own torso. âJoel,â you gasp when you feel the thick head of his cock at your entrance.
âI am sorry,â he begins, notching his tip inside you and popping it out. He slides the blunt head through your folds and over your clit, then taps the sensitive part of you with himself. âThat youâre in pain. It isnât fair and I know that. But youâve done nothing but take your hurt out on me.â He presses himself inside you again, âIâve got a half a mind to take my own hurt out on you, yâknow.â His voice is dark and angered, but he speaks calmly in a way that contrasts the darkness but maintains his authority all the same. âAnd I think Iâm gonna.â
âJoel, Iâ â
âQuiet,â he commands. He begins teasing your slit with his cock once more before he speaks, âSo this is what weâre gonna do: youâre gonna take what I give you, however much or little it is. Youâre not gonna cry or complain âcause youâve done enough of that today. Right?â Joel pauses, âNod your head.âÂ
You obey his rule and nod, yes.
He drags his cock up and down your cunt again, the soft skin of your labia rubbing so nicely against his thickness. He notches himself inside you over and over again, pushing in a little bit deeper each time and pulling back out. You whine, rolling your hips in search of more. âI know, I know, sweetheart,â he coos at you to quiet you down. âYouâre all out of sorts today. Mâgonna fix it. I always fix it, donât I?â
Yes. You nod again. Quiet.
âSâright,â he says. âGood girl.â
With that, Joel pushes his leaking cock into you entirely, one gradual slide that has you sucking in a breath that comes out in a strained sort of whimper. His hard, warm shaft parting your insides, filling you whole. Joel hears it in the way that you sigh, that this, this is what you needed. He rocks his hips once, twice. Experiments with shallow thrusts, inching his way in and out of you before he draws out of your pussy entirely only to thrust himself right back in, deeper and harder than before.Â
With the fullness of Joel inside of you, everything seems to melt away - all that anger, misplaced or not. Joelâs rhythmic thrusting soothes you, sort of. The soreness of your body, the aching cramps in your abdomen are all gone as you focus on the in and out, the in and out. He builds a comfortable pace, but one that borders on too much too soon. His hands on your waist, pulling you towards him as he pushes into you in equal measure.Â
Joelâs brow is furrowed as he breathes heavily through his teeth, his soft body jerking above you as he hits that sweet spot inside you over and over and overâŠ
âItâs all ya needed, isnât it? The whole goddamn time,â he pants. âDidnât need to go anâ bitch me out all day if you needed lovinâ like this. Woulda been nice fâya just said so.â Joel reaches for your breasts, harshly squeezing the tender, sore flesh. You wince in pain and he loosens his grip, focusing on your nipples instead. He twists and flicks the sensitive buds and your moans become louder, more high pitched. Joel fucking loves it when that happens, you never realized.Â
âOh, Joel,â you moan, âYeah, fuck.âÂ
With one hand still teasing your nipples, he brings the other to your pussy. A few strokes of his thumb on your clit is all it takes to send you over the edge a second time, wanton moans and choked sobs spilling from your lips as he fucks you through it.Â
And fucks you, and fucks you.Â
And keeps fucking you.Â
It doesnât end, he doesnât slow himself and you never feel that come down, that descent from pleasure. It keeps going, like pressure with nowhere to go and you feel like you might break. âI canât, I need you to stop, stop, Joel.â
âNuh-uh,â he shakes his head, thrusting still. âYou can take it, be a good girl. Gonna fuck you good and deep like you need. You brought this on yourself, anyway. Two more.âÂ
This whole time, he doesnât stop. Itâs so much at once and when you thought it was going to end, it doesnât. Tears of overstimulation spring in your eyes and flow freely down your cheeks. Joel lets you cry because he knows you need it, he knows the release is good for you. You poor thing, how much you must be feeling right now, both physically and mentally. âItâs too much, Joel, I canât,â you plead.
âAlways the tears with you, huh?â he taunts. âAlways somethinâ. Oh, I know. I know.âÂ
Itâs the way you look at Joel that causes him to cave, eyes all wide and tear-stained. Youâre spent and he knows it, what with all that your bodyâs put you through. Youâve had a rough day and though he did too, he canât help but feel sympathy for you at this moment. âOh, my sweet girl. What am I gonna do with you, hm?â
âI donât know,â you sniffle.Â
âKnow you donât, ân you donât have to. Sâmy job,â he soothes. With his clean hand, he traces the side of your face and rubs his thumb over your cheekbone. âHow about this, then - what are we gonna do next time youâre not feeling so good?âÂ
âIâm - Iâmââ
âYouâre gonna tell me what you need,â he instructs, âAnd youâre gonna ask for it. Nicely. So that means usinâ your manners. Please, Joel. Thank you, Joel. Remember those words?â
âYeah,â you nod, âYeah, I remember.â
âBut you forgot âem the whole day today,â Joel says softly. âI think you gotta learn to compromise, too,â he adds. The guilt had begun to set in before, but you really start to feel the burn now. You were unkind to Joel, and heâs been nothing but sweet, doting on every one of your needs. âI think an apologyâs in order for the way you treated me today.âÂ
Heâs right, and you know it. âIâm sorry. Iâm really sorry, Joel.â
âOh, I know you are. You just needed the reminder, sâokay,â You hadnât even noticed how his thrusting had slowed to a still until it picks up again slowly, as he presses kisses to you. Your cheeks first, then your lips. âIâll compromise too - Iâm only gonna make you come one more time, not two. Sound good? Sound fair?â
âI donât think I can, JoelâŠâ
âYeah, you can, sâthe last one. Take it good for me,â he encourages. âTake it good.âÂ
Thatâs what he repeats as his thrusts build again, fucking you deeply. Take it good, take it good for me. He hikes you up further on the bed and joins you so that heâs no longer standing at the floor, heâs got you pressed in half instead, your knees on either side of your chest and your feet above his shoulders. This angle intensifies everything and he knows, oh he knows how much it is for you. Youâre tired, sore, overstimulated. But youâll be done soon, heâll be done with you soon. He takes your hand and wedges it between your bodies, pressing your own fingers to your clit, âLet go for me, I wanna feel you let go for me,â he says. âFocus right here. Youâre gonna come with me, keep your eyes on meâŠâ
You donât even have to massage your clit, the way Joel angles himself has his body doing all the work, his pubic bone adding pressure to your fingers adding pressure to your clit. Itâs intense, all of it - deeply energetic, overwhelming. You canât quite discern your orgasm as it builds, thereâs no definitive start but itâs powerful, devastating almost. Washing over you in waves, you feel it in the base of your spine first. You feel it in your gut, the backs of your thighs all the way to your toes. You hardly register that heâs coming with you, filling you deep with his come. His jaw is clenched tight and heâs groaning, grunting as he milks himself in you.
He leaves you there, whimpering, twitching on the bed. You hear the faint sound of running water, you figure heâs washing himself off. Wanna test it out with me?âÂ
âYeah,â you sniffle. âYes. Please.âÂ
Joel sits in the tub first, spreads his legs and welcomes you to sit between them. He washes the blood from your poor, sensitive core and your thighs, washes it from his own body as well. When heâs done, he pulls you back into his chest and his hands find your breasts. âTheyâre tender, huh,â he murmurs into the side of your head.Â
âSuper, yeah. Sore.âÂ
âIâll bet,â he says. He gently massages the tissue for you, his strong hands working you out in a way you canât quite do.Â
âThank you,â you whisper.Â
Joel chuckles. âBout fuckinâ time you thanked me,â he says. âYouâre welcome.âÂ

ITâS NOT WORTH TRYING TO LEARN OTHER PEOPLEâS LOVE LANGUAGES.
p â MYUNG JAEHYUN x fem! reader. g â humor, fluff, park sungho learns a lesson about minding his own business. w â swearing, death threats (as a form of flirting). 1.5k words.
requested by â @gluion âgo kill yourself x âiâm pretty sure they have a crush on meâ
note â part of my ship dynamics: insane edition gimmick. this is very the breakup soup coded. i just like writing about a bunch of idiots stressing about the dumpster fire love life of their friend. enjoy.
myung jaehyunâs friends are pretty sure heâs had a very stable, very loving, very normal upbringing.
âstop staring at me, you fucking creep.â
âsorry, i didnât mean to make your heart flutter. canât help it when youâre so pretty.â
âiâll stab your fucking eyes out.â
âmy eyes are all yours, pretty.â
so they canât wrap their head around why heâs acting like he has not a single ounce of self-respect in his body. sungho and leehan watch as their pitiful friend gets shut down again by the most venomous glare, hostile sneer, deflected by the biggest pair of heart eyes in the world thatâs ever longingly following your disappearing figure out the library door. âshe wants me so bad,â he concludes with a self-righteous smile as he arranges his notes into one neat stack. sungho and leehan share a look. god almighty, please grant their friend wisdom and salvation.
âwhat...what makes you say that?â sungho attempts to prod. the first step to finding a solution is to figure out the situation. they need to know why myung jaehyun is so down bad for you, and why heâs so convinced that you feel the same way.
âhuh?â jaehyun perks up. like heâs genuinely confused sungho has to ask that. âshe was so flustered earlier. couldnât you tell? it was adorable.â
âshe threatened to mutilate youâŠ?âÂ
jaehyun beams. âshe sure did.â
there...there is no point trying to understand him, sungho concludes. leehan is, for lack of a better word, getting mildly frustrated. âhyung, what the hell?â he raises. âif telling someone you want them dead is an indication of romantic feelings, then my middle school bullies mustâve been head over heels for me.â
a silence. a pause. âweâll unpack that later,â sungho tells him. then shifts his attention back to problem child number one. âyou. youâre a grown man who has full autonomy over his actions and feelings, and i know that. but as your friend, i just canât keep watching you being disrespected, jaehyun. i canât help but get angry on your behalf when you greet her good morning and alll she does is tell you to go fuck yourself!â
admittedly, sungho got a little bit heated at the end there. but he has every right to feel this emotion on behalf of his dense and seemingly unaffected friendâ who is still sitting there, a smile on his face, hands on his lap like a patient buddha who has learned the true meaning of peace and serenity.
âsungho-yah,â jaehyun starts with a pleasant hum. âthereâs no need to worry. the feeling is totally mutual. iâm telling you, she likes me back.â
speechless.
in fact, sungho and leehan are beyond speechless. they have no idea where this ungrounded certainty comes from. they certainly have even less of an idea on how to fix his lovesickness, bordering on insanity.
so, reasonablyâ they call for backup.
âthe only way for him to get his shit together is if he asks her out for real and finally gets rejected for good,â taesan declares confidently. somehow, they see a point. riwoo lets out an echo of agreement. woonhak asks why theyâre all excluding jaehyun from this after school garage meeting. âdo you guys know when heâs planning on doing that?â
âno idea,â leehan answers. âbut maybe we can pressure him into it.â
âso, should we encourage him instead of telling him to give it up?â sungho raises. taesan affirms. sungho lets out a grunt and a huff. âgod, thatâs gonna be tough.â
a resounding voice of dissent arises from woonhak. âi donât get why youâre all going against jaehyun-hyung!â he yells indignantly. âlet hyung love whoever he wants! this is a free country! you guys canât dictate his love!â
âheâs received fuck youâs straight in the face and swears sheâs flirting, woonhak. youâre too young to understand.â
itâs four votes against one. woonhak canât win against his hyungâs determination to save myung jaehyun from his self-dug pit of pitifulness that heâd been in ever since laying eyes on you at the freshman orientation. god, they never shouldâve went. he never shouldâve shot down jaehyunâs suggestion to just skip it. maybe then, myung jaehyun would still be normal.
but this is not the time to lament and regret. itâs time for sungho to right his wrongs. itâs time to bring jaehyunâs self-respect back, they decide. and it starts with a wake-up call in the form of your inevitable, brutal rejection.Â
which, for some reason, does not happen as planned.
âwhat?â
âweâre going on a date.â jaehyun is as chipper as ever and sunghoâs ears are starting to ring. âthanks for the encouragement, sungho!â
itâs ringing. itâs ringing so badly. âwait, what do you mean youâre going on a date?â he attempts to clarify, grabbing jaehyun by the shoulders because this is two-parts concerning, one-part kind ofâŠproud? this guy actually succeeded? âshe said yes? she didnât tell you to fuck off and die in a hole?â
âshe did. she looked pretty while saying it.â jaehyun answers with a bright grin. nevermind. this is all parts concerning. sungho âshe also told me sheâd kill me if i pick her up late after her class tomorrow. weâre going to have dinner at the thai restaurant that just opened. riwoo recommended it.â
sungho does not understand. he cannot understand because you, who seems to hate all of myung jaehyunâs guts for no discernible reason, agreed to go on a date with him? hello? has jaehyun been right this whole time? do you really reciprocate his feelings? or is this just some new form of torture? is his friend a masochist? is he the weird one for making a big fucking deal out of this? is this how relationships work nowadays?
a thought enters sunghoâs mind.
hold on a secondâ
âanyway, i gotta go, dude. a pretty girl is waiting for me.â
âwhat if this date is a ploy for you to finally get the chance to kill him?
oh my god.
âwait!â sunghoâs face is pale. his eyes are wide and frantic. âdonâtâdonât go on the date!â
âhm?â jaehyun bats his eyes at him, taking a moment to think. then sparkles in realization. âoh! donât worry. iâm not gonna show up looking like this. iâm gonna head home first to change.â
âthatâs not the problem! jaehyun! no! no!â
this is it, his friend is going to die. that is, unless, he shows up on your date just in time to stop it. yes. thereâs still a chance. he knows where the date is happening. heâs gonna tell the rest of them because thereâs no way in hell theyâd allow myung jaehyunâs cause of death to read stupidity by misconstruing your murderous intent as affection. they are not only going to save jaehyunâs lifeâ but his dignity as well.
âremember, be quiet. be inconspicuous. they canât figure out weâre here.â
hopefully, things go as planned this time. all five of them are gathered in a booth at the said thai restaurant, the eventual scene of the crime unless they do something about it. sungho is surveying the scene to find where you and jaehyun are seated. leehan nearly trips over his unnecessarily long trench coat while trying to cover more ground. woonhak is using the menu as cover but has since gotten distracted and has started to pick out his order with riwoo and taesan. âhyung, is the khao soi good?â
âyeah, we should order it.â
âwhat drinks should we get?â
this is hopeless. this is a mess. their best friend is about to die and all they can think about is dinner.
no matter. sungho can still take care of this himself. his eyes scan the main restaurant wing, from left to right, until his eyes double over in a screeching halt to the back of a very familiar round headâ
âhuh.â
the back of a very familiar round head that doesnât seem to be facing the threat of decapitation.
sungho sees you and jaehyun sitting across from one another, jaehyunâs fairly loud voice raising over the music and utensils clattering, people chatting and passing by. âyouâve got something on your face.â
âtouch my face, and iâll kill yâ hey!â
first of all, sungho wants to claw his own eyes out seeing his friend being disgustingly sweet. second, jaehyun did touch your face with a napkin and it does not seem like youâre attempting to murder him. in fact, you look flustered even. flushed despite the harbored glare, still seated despite your apparent derision and disgust. the back of jaehyunâs head looks exceedingly happy. the dots arenât connecting. sungho is malfunctioning.Â
âshouldâŠshould we interfereâŠ?â leehan asks, his nose barely peeking out of the trench coat collar.
âi think...i think we should just leave them alone.â
âbut isnât his life in danger?â
âi misunderstood.â
forget misunderstanding. sungho canât even behind to understand in the first place and has settled that he wouldnât even try so long as myung jaehyun is happyâ happy with being on the receiving end of fuck youâs and go to hellâs in response to his youâre so prettyâs and see you tomorrowâs, happy with getting his advances swatted away and shut down, happy with whatever the fuck is going on between you and him that sungho really canât just wrap his head around.

heart is beating heavily
(buddie) (s8 spec) (1k) several people asked for more of this town is only gonna eat you so this is that. unfortunately i am still feeling evil, so please enjoy buck's pov of the same events :) btw the title of both of these fics comes from the song bloody shirt by to kill a king, which i played on repeat while writing these cw: mass shooting / gun violence
Buckâs breath leaves him in a sharp exhale when he hits the ground. It hurts, but notânot where it should. His chest, his back, theyâre on fire. His head, though, as violently as he was thrown to the ground, never makes contact with the cement.
The only thing he can see now is Eddie. Eddie, hovering above him, eyes wild. He looksâcornered. Trapped. Only heâs the one pressing Buck into the sticky floor of the arena, not the other way around, and he doesnât understand why.
âEds,â he tries to say, but it comes out as more of a croak.
Eddie shakes his head sharply, almostâ
Panicked.
Buck takes a breath and it hurts. His thoughts feel sluggish in a way they never really are. He tries to take stock of what he knows anyway.
His body is screaming in pain.
Eddie is afraid. (Why is Eddie afraid? What could possiblyâ)
Theyâre on the floor. (Eddie pushed him to the floor. Why would heâ)
The space around them is filled with a cacophonous noise that Buck canât quite identify.
Pain. Fear. Sharp popping noises that make Buckâs ears hurt, andâ
Screaming.
Oh.
Buck presses his lips together and tips his chin toward his chest in an approximation of a nod. Eddie exhales, warm against his cheek. His face does something complicated, and thenâ
Iâm sorry, Eddie mouths, and before Buck can figure out what for, white hot pain lances through his chest.
In his mind he screams.
In reality, he bites his tongue hard enough to draw blood. Theyâre in danger, and he wonâtâAs long as heâs still breathing, Eddie wonât leave him here. Even if he should. He wonât protect himself, wonât run, wonât hide. The least Buck can do is keep from drawing attention toward them, but in the moment, it feels like the hardest thing heâs ever done.
ââso good,â Eddie breathes into his ear. âI got you; I promise.â
Buck wants to believe that almost as much as he wishes Eddie would just save himself. Every breath he takes is harder than the one before, though, and it occurs to him that soon, he might draw his last. If he has to die, Eddieâs face is a pretty incredible last thing to see. He just wishes it wasnât twisted in pain and fear.
It takes a minute for Buck to catch up with his own thoughts. Pain. Thatâsâheâs seen it in Eddieâs expression enough times to know it intimately. Why is he in pain? Eddie presses his cheek to Buckâs before he can interrogate the expression further.
âSlow, steady breaths, okay? You have to breathe through it, even if it feels like you canât.â
The scrape of Eddieâs jaw against his sends something like a shiver down Buckâs spine. Thereâs somethingâsomething important, butâit feels just out of reach.
âYou have to, Buck, I canâtâI just need you to hold on,â Eddie whispers, quietly wrecked.
Heâs trying. God is he trying. But itâsâevery breath feels like pulling fire into his lungs. With every exhale, he feels a tiny bit weaker, a tiny bit worse. Eddie pulls away slightly, and Buck feels the absence like a missing rib.
âHear that?â Eddie asks, brushing a thumb across Buckâs cheekbone.
He doesnâtâhe doesnât hear anything other than Eddie, but heâs not sure he wants to.
âWeâre so close, Buck.â
Something settles in his chest at the sound of his name on Eddieâs lips, louder than before, drenched in something that sounds like relief. He blinks once, twice, slow and heavy.
âCome on, eyes on me,â Eddie says sharply. Andâoh, when did he get so far away?
Eddie pulls the hem of his shirt to his teeth andâoh god. Thatâs not Buckâs blood. HeâsâEddieâs hurt too, but Buck canât make his mouth work, canât even keep his eyes open long enough toâ
âNo!â Eddie commands. A new pain accompanies his voice. âYouâre staying right here with me, got it?â
He has toâhas to tell Eddieâhe doesnâtâ
âThatâs perfect, youâre perfect,â Eddie says, eyes shining.
A lump forms in his throat.
âJust keepâcâmon Buck, just keep fighting. I needâyou have to be okay.â
He does. He does have to be okay because Eddieâs not and heâs acting like he doesnât even know.
âHurt,â Buck forces out.
âI know,â Eddie says, but he doesnât! âI know it hurts, Iâm sorry.â
Buck lets out a frustrated groan. He tries to shake his head, and when that fails, to lift his hand to Eddieâs abdomen.
Eddie turns away from him, and if Buck could scream now, he would.
âAlright,â he says, turning back to Buck. âIâm going to get you onto that gurney. Let me do all the work, okay?â
No! No he canât! Buck tries to tell him again, tries to force anything through his lips that Eddie will understand. Youâreââhurt,â he manages again. He canât even lift his hand now. Heâs dying and heâs going to take Eddie with him.
Eddie says something he canât parse, and suddenly heâs moving, being lifted dizzyingly high off the ground. He seesâ
A body. A swarm of cops. Uniformed paramedics and EMTs running in every direction imaginable.
One of them, he just needs one of them to look at Eddie. He just needs one of them to see. Heâs still walking, still talking. He still has time.
Eddie drops him onto what must be a gurney, and immediately it begins to roll. Buck allows his head to loll away from Eddie and towardsâ
An EMT! She canâshe can do something. She canâ
Sheâs not looking at him.
Sheâs not looking at Eddie either. Sheâs looking straight ahead and under any other circumstances Buck would compliment her for her pragmatic understanding of the urgency of the situation. But sheâs walking too fast and Eddieâs beginning to stumble.
âDiaz, is thatââ Yes, yes! Someone sees him. Someone else knowsâ
ââwere you shot?â
Buck gets his head around just in time to watch Eddie collapse into the arms of a firefighter he doesnât recognize.
He wants to scream, to sob, to thrash against the restraints keeping him on the gurney. He wants toâ
Wants toâ
Needsâ
Eddie.

⧠moonstruck - nishimura riki
pairing: nishimura riki x afab!reader
summary: you two havenât spoke since senior year graduation, and didnât end on the best terms.. until he spots you at the place he least expected
you swore yourself up and down you would NEVER speak to nishimura riki again.
before, you two were the bestest of friends, you could say you even managed to catch feelings for him in some way. he treated you with nothing but respect and love.
he offered everything youâve ever wanted, even homework.
youâve known him since freshman year, he was the first person youâd turn too whenever you needed ANYONE.
and that was what led you to ask him out, he said yes, and it felt like the best thing you could ever imagine.
but it wasnât.
the day of your first date, you were told to meet him at a pretty empty park with tall flowers and lots of trees, you wore a pretty white flowing dress with your hair into pigtails,
you made your way to the spot that you were supposed to meet him at, and your heart has never dropped faster before,
there he was, but he wasnât alone. he was with his.. ex?
she looked up at him, tears in his eyes, niki slowly cupped her face and pressed his lips onto hers, and that was what broke you.
you didnât understand. why would he say yes to you if he didnât have things settled with his ex yet. you knew of her, he would always tell you that he was over her thanks your help.
but it sure didnât look like he was over at right now.
you covered your mouth to hide any noises, and failed miserably, nikiâs head snapped back your way, his eyes softening,
âyn-â he tried but you had already ran off and back home.
graduation came, you didnât say a word to him, for some reason your heart ached everytime you even looked over at him, as soon as graduation was over, you said your byes to your friends before rushing to the front of the school where your parents awaited in the car.
before niki could find you and speak to you.
you didnât care about closure, or.. thatâs what you thought.
which leads to now. itâs been two year since youâve heard from him, and letâs say you were doing too well.
your mind was constantly filled with him, every second of the day for two full years.
âi wonder what heâs doing now.â or, âdoes he have a girlfriend?â âhowâs college going for him.â and so much more.
you sighed, closing your laptop, you took off your glasses and slowly got up, the sun was setting soon, you decided to go out and get some fresh air before the night arrived.
you walked to the closet of your small apartment, putting on your shoes, you wore a white flowy dress..
white.. flowy.. dress.. gosh everything reminds you of him. and that day.
you sighed, grabbing your tote bag before leaving out the door,
you made your way down the street, you didnât have a specific place on where you wanted to go, you just had to get out your room before you actually went insane from thinking too much.
without even realizing it, you walked into a park, you smiled, liking the peaceful atmosphere, but something seemed familiar.
because it was.
you were in the park where you saw him, where you were supposed to have your first official date with him. but.. well, you know what went wrong.
you frowned to yourself and sat on a empty bench, staring at the flowers ahead of you, your mind was just full of him.
like you said, you didnât care about the closure. but you did. you needed it, it was killing you that you didnât ask him why he did what he did before storming out that school for the last time.
but, you were the only one who went on a walk.
niki had a grey hoodie on and sweats, airpods in and head down as he walked down the path of the, what he thought, empty park.
his thoughts were eating him alive, he was caught in such a bad situation and never had the chance to explain it to you.
he hasnât seen you in two years, and itâs been weighing heavy on his heart.
you two were the closest ever, always hanging out after school, getting food or icecream, staying the night, you wouldnât even notice during movie nights youâd fall asleep on his shoulder as he played with your hair.
he fell in love with you because it was hard not too with how close you guys were. and the first date was ruined before it even started.
he continued to walk, soft music playing in his ears, he finally lifted his head, looking around the peaceful park, his took a deep breath,
but his eyes suddenly stopped,
not on just anything, but on you.
he felt his heart drop, he completely froze and tensed up, you sat on the bench, your facial expression looked empty, compared to how smiley you were in highschool.
and he sighed, knowing it was his fault, he couldnât fuck this up.
this was probably his last chance he would ever have at speaking to you, so he wiped his sweaty palms on the side of his hoodie before taking slow steps to the bench you sat at,
oh and yes, your heart dropped as well. you saw him in the corner of your eye, but refused to look over at him at all when he sat at the other end of the bench.
if anything, your eyes began to water, you thought you would never see him again after cutting communication with him completely.
you look down at your hands, what do you do in this situation?
before you could speak up, he beat you to it,
âynâŠâ he says low, which makes your heart ache, hearing him say your name again, you lift your head slowly, turning it to meet his gaze,
his eyes were low, they looked almost heavy, as if he wasnât getting any sleep, and his expression was filled with concern and worry.
âniki..â you reply, your voice small, you were scared if you even spoke too loud heâd disappear. he sighed and stood up, holding his arms out.
you wanted to reject, but the way your body unconsciously got up and ran to his arms was what stopped you, you wrap your arms around him, not knowing how much you needed this hug,
you sobbed into his chest, nikiâs felt his heart breaking, he wrapped his arms around you, tight but not enough to cause you discomfort.
knowing you were crying because of him, made him feel horrible.
âiâve missed you so much.. i never thought id see you again.â he mumbled in your hair, which was what made you lift your head to look up at him.
you had tears streaming down your cheeks, your nose slightly red from sniffing, âwhyâd you do it..â you whispered, niki sighed and sucked in his lips,
âi donât know. she was crying to me about some.. personal family problems.. she asked for just one kiss and of course.. i did it.â he groaned and ran his fingers through his hair,
you didnât reply, i just looked up at him still, âiâm so sorry yn. im such a idiot for doing that.. i havenât stoped thinking about you ever since.â he frowned,
youâve never saw him frown before, and letâs just say, you didnât like it.
âif i could go back in time and rewind the whole process, id do so with no hesitation.â he cups your face, âi broke your heart. which is what broke mine. i am so sorry..â he whispered,
you felt your eyes water again, you didnât like the reasoning on why he kissed her, but you couldnât stay mad at him since it happened years ago,
you melt into his hands, before slowly replying, âi forgive you.â
and niki could burst into flames just from that, he felt his heart connecting back together, âw-what..â he says, lower than a whisper.
âi forgive you niki. i canât stay mad at you forever can i?â you smiled softly, niki didnât reply, instead he pulled you back into his embrace, tears pricking in his eyes.
you hugged him back, youâve been craving this for so long, you wouldnât let it up so easily.
âplease. give me another chance. i promise you i wonât disappoint you again.â he whispered into your hair.
and you couldnât say no. you slowly nod in return and his grip on your tightened softly. both of you back to where you both belonged.
in each others arms, comforting each other. he was once your best best friend, and he still was. you were willing to forgive AND forget,
just one more try.. the universe brought you two back together for a reason, right?
a/n: i am so sorry for the lack of posts lately! so hereâs a big fat drabble i made in two days for you all! hopefully you enjoy, and i am glad to say i amm backkk! <3

Megumi felt his face darken hearing this. How the hell does this guy live even after all this? It was sick and wrong. However, he was worried about his plan to use her to get others here.
"....." She didn't move seeing him finally let her chin go, moving away as she tries struggling again to get free but the damn chains were tight around her wrists. After the two times he used rope, he used chains to stop her from getting out.
"Anyway...the body does provide a good substance for a soul. All I need to do is to use the remains of the soul, remnant and put it into an animatronic under my control. I never thought I had this kind of power before" Metal Zilla shrugs his arms as he picks up a pizza cutter from the table. "This place is great! The kids are a pain in the ass since I started working here." The man is wearing a long light brown trenchcoat with a hoodie, he has long sleeves. Daichi can't see his face thanks to the mask he's wearing. But his voice is so full of himself.
"......"
"But they do make great resources! Easy to take and easy to corrupt! But now I feel like I need to move on to the adults! But it's hard to get some but one. The good thing is...I'm going to use that shitty security guard! Zilla is good for something besides singing."
"*Muffled grunting while struggling again* Mfffmmm!!!"
"Anyway...I gotta get back to work!" He said. "I still have about 5 more bodies to work on before getting their souls out. But who knows? If you behave I Might let you out...just kidding! You are going to be good and lure your so called friends here. I'm sure you'll be happy to see them again." he smiled.
"So...what do you have to say about that?" he asked to look at her but Miko said nothing feeling him sigh. "Here, why don't you speak right and tell me?" he asked reaching to lower the gag as she gasps coughing.
"..Hmm?"
"I think your t..terrible! How could you! Your nothing but a creep and murderer to those poor kids! What did they even do to you!?" she shouted.
"EVERYTHING! THOSE BRATS DESERVED IT AND IF YOUR ANGRY ABOUT IT GET OVER IT!" he shouted. "I deserve to get what I want even if it means killing someone else!" he glares at her. "Even if it means torturing someone else.." he said showing the pizza cutter near her cheek. However, she looks quiet for him to sigh.
"You don't get it though..I'm doing this for a reason..now...I'm sure whoever sees this will be happy your safe....why not say something?" he asked but Miko looks up at the camera.
"Guys! If your seeing this; don't come down here! I'll be fine! Please, you don't want to come down here!" she said but he laughs finding her funny.
"Oh what a joke you are Miko-chan!" he snickered but as he leans in about to almost cut her cheek seeing the cutter cut her skin drawing blood. "Why not say more?" He teased.
However, she quickly knees him hard in the stomach hearing him groan henching over. She begins struggling more working on trying to get out before seeing Anaconda. He was trying to break the chains again.
"Anaconda!" she was looking to him hearing the other coughing before he growls getting mad. "!?...Anaconda, run! Get out of here and warn the others! Tell them not to come here!" she said seeing him not wanting to leave her.
"I'll be okay. Just go!" she said before she tires using her strength to break the chains only to see Anaconda rush out away as she sees the other growling to stand up.
"WHY YOU BITCH!" he shouted to hit Miko hard as she coughs wincing a bit. "Tch....I'll have to have them look for that thing. But in the meantime....*faces Miko angry*..since you wanna be a brat! I'll have to punish you again for it!" he said cutting her free but saw her trying to run only for him to pick her up over his shoulder.
"LET ME GO!! LET ME GO!!" she shouted kicking but he keeps carrying her away. "LET GOOOOO!!"
"Once I deal with you..it's back to work but lets work on that mouth of yours!" he shouted as she screams kicking before the door slams shut behind him leaving Miko's screams before they were fading away leaving silence.
The roars and the shouts are heard before it becomes silent as something is heard shut. A door. Muffled shouts are heard before laughter is heard, "With this, I can make a new animatronic! Thanks to those brats, I can collect enough agony to make more of these things! It's thanks to that stupid owner who wouldn't give up. Hell, they brought in some damn brats..." Said a figure. It sounded male.
Megumi didn't like that at all. What was he planning to do?! Make more of the animatoric but it sounds like he would make it more danger and disturbing where it might get even worse. He saw Miko struggling but she glares at him while still moving.
"Oh well...I just need to move and leave this dump. Not before bringing more brats in here!" He cackled. "I just need to use those dumb robots and a helper to bring them here."He said.
Someone came into view, he wore a grey Zilla mask, this one looked metal as it had yellow eyes. He looks at Miko, "Tell me...I wonder which of your friends will get here first. The girls, the boys, or that brother and sister! Who knows! It makes the game fun, doesn't it?"
"......" Miko still tries to struggle but he sighed to look at her.
"Now now, don't struggle. You'll hurt yourself like that. I can't let a fresh offering get ruined." he said only to hear more sickening crunch noises to see himself. Miko saw blood on him but also saw the animatronic show up but it was coated in blood along with holding a bloody axe.
Right away Miko's face pales a little. "Though, again, we just begun the game..I'm sure you'll have loads of fun..won't you? Besides, I still didn't forgive you for that kick earlier after you escaped twice. TWICE!" he shouted as he slams the axe above her head almost cutting her hands but missed.
"With your wrestling moves and all that punching and kicking. That hurt you know. BUT! I forgive you for it." he pouts to grip her chin forcing her to look at him.
"I mean after all....I had sooooooo fun making sure you didn't do it again." he said glaring at her but Miko kept looks at him seeing the bloody axe near by.
"So lets see if we can have more guests show up...but you'll be fine won't you.." he smiled petting Miko's head while she was still struggling hoping she can break free again.
"But lets see...maybe you can lead your friends here for me! You can be so helpful and I know I can get them trapped.." he giggled but Miko shook her head furiously not wanting that. He looks to her but he only glares seeing the mask up close that she stares into his glowing yellow eyes.
"Don't you fucking say no to me...you're lucky I didn't kill you.." he said as she was quiet. "Just because you got lucky, I'll be sure you don't...so unless you want me to cut that pretty little head of yours..behave." he warns.

Malfunction: Heart Mode - Boothill
Based on this post. fem reader. Praying this is not ooc. Writing is kinda choppy, I tried my best. 1.6k words. tag: @nvuy hope you like it -- Boothill is one strong muddle-fudger. He does not give a rat's behind when it comes to romantic love, affection, and all that fudging nonsense. Even if it has crossed his mind, he's too busy dealing with the forking problems of the cosmos and most importantly trying to find that son of a nice lady who is responsible for killing his sweet angel and destroying his planet.
Yet here he is, standing in front of you at the bar with a drink in his hand as he hears his machine heart starting to whir. You both were regulars at the bar and often ran into each other from time to time. Your encounters were akin to something like being seatmates; there was enough information exchanged to know about each other yet it was nothing personal. While you didn't quite understand why he would disappear for long periods before returning like nothing happened, you never questioned it and were simply happy to see him again.
He too liked meeting up with you. He couldn't help but flash his razor-sharp teeth whenever he saw you; calling you âpartner!â out loud before greeting you and asking how you had been. The little interactions you both had were always a pleasure and as time passed, he seemed to grow more attached to seeing you.
Today was a little different. Compared to your usual outfit, you were dressed up all fancy and the more he looked at you, the louder the whirring of his heart got.
"Fudge."
He mutters under his breath. You look at him inquisitively as he turns his head sideways and sighs.
"Something the matter Boothill?" "It's nothing partner."
You watch as he chugs down his glass and sets the empty vessel down on the bar counter before ordering more.
"I haven't even finished my first drink yet and you're already done?"
You laugh a little as you take a sip of your drink. The dim lights of the bar made your jewellery glow and alongside the reflections of other shiny things, you looked heavenly in his eyes. He doesnât answer so you look over and find him dazed.
"Boothill...? Um, do you need some space?" "Fudge!"
He can't help but say it out loud this time, covering his face as he scrunches his eyebrows and frowns. This was not how he normally behaved. What in the hot diggity fudge was going on with him?
"Yes- I mean no, ugh fork me!"
You stand there confused (and slightly amused) at how he seems to be fighting himself like a madman. He almost looked possessed from how he kept going back and forth with himself as if he was surprised at what he was saying. Like his tongue wasn't his own.
"I'll give you some space."
The last thing you wanted was for him to hurt himself or those around him. You finally decide to leave just to make sure everything's alright only for him to grab your arm and then quickly let go in shock.
"Sorry 'bout that partner.â
Boothill awkwardly apologises for his unusual behaviour. Before you can reply, a drunk accidentally pushes you from behind and you lose your balance causing you to fall straight into his arms.
âI-!?â âUmâŠ?!â
Both of you are speechless. He swiftly holds your waist with one hand while the other firmly holds onto malt juice. Your hands are tightly gripping his shoulders from the fear of falling. No coherent thought is spoken but the flustered look on your faces has got some of the bar regulars around you giggling.
You donât even hear the apology of the one who accidentally pushed you. It's as if time has slowed down and nothing exists outside you both. Strangely, he doesnât let you go and you donât move either making things even more awkward.
The strong alcohol you were sipping on makes you tipsy and somehow gives you the courage to lift your head and gaze into Boothill's unique eyes. You've always admired how dashing he looks; from his physique to his dressing style and even his interesting way of speaking. And now here you were up close, staring disrespectfully at his face and how handsome he looked.
Boothill is no different either, he's gazing at you hesitantly as he tries to find something to say but the only thing that comes out of his mouth is-
âFudge meâŠâ âI'm sure the ladies at the ranch think about that regularly.â
You mumble without thinking and he tenses up.
âI- what?!â
He stutters as his cheeks turn slightly red and his eyes widen.
âUh?! Nothing!â
You mentally slap yourself for blurting that out loud. Even if it was true, why did you have to say it and make things awkward? Come on! You both were having a somewhat endearingly awkward time together!Â
You attempt to conjure up something to smooth things over but your thinking is disrupted by a strangely loud machine sound that seems to be coming from nearby. The whoosh is accompanied by irregular beeping sounds, almost like one of those technology things Boothill had told you about.Â
You glance around to see if you can find the source only to realise-
Itâs coming from Boothill.
âOh.â You whisper under your breath but the cyborg (who still doesn't let you go nor drinks his beverage and is as still as a statue for some reason) hears you loud and clear.
âSomething the matter, pretty lady?â âYes. Do you plan on us staying in this position until the bar closes?â
Instead of answering his question, you deflect it with another. He turns red again and stammers badly which makes you giggle and further confirms your theory.
âGotcha.â
Before Boothill can ask what youâre doing, you slowly drag your hands down his shoulders until they rest on his chest. You feel the rapid whirring of his heart through the vibrations it emits through your fingertips. A tiny smirk spreads on your face and you look back at him.
âYouâre pretty cute.â
You flirtatiously speak. The look of confusion and embarrassment on his face makes you laugh harder.
âWhat- hey what- I-â
Boothillâs stammering only gets worse alongside the overheating of his heart. He tries to reply with a snarky comment but the only thing heâs capable of doing is squeezing your waist harder and propping himself up with the bar counter to avoid falling. You, being the woman you are, do not stop the teasing.
âYou canât handle affection, can you? Look at you sweet thing, your heart is overworking and your synesthesia beacon has already overheated.â âShutâŠâ âI barely said anything and youâre malfunctioning already? How amusing.â âSon of a nice ladyâŠâ âI am indeed the daughter of a nice lady.â
âYou-!â
He is bewildered at your unexpected behaviour but that painfully obvious blush on his cheek tells you he's not mad about it.
âOh dear,â you chuckle and pry yourself off his metal chest, âI should stop or else yourâŠeccentric friendsâŠwill hold me responsible for any severe malfunctions.â
This was enough teasing from you today. If it were up to you, you would go on and on but you feared any dire consequences that would affect Boothill. You lift and steady yourself up nonchalantly as if you just didn't cause the ranger to nearly pass out from your shenanigans.
Despite the cold metal exterior, he feels the loss of warmth from you moving your body away. His hand slowly retracts from your waist but lingers as if he hesitates to let go. The overheating of his system rapidly starts to decrease, however, he is unable to calm his emotions down completely. He turns his attention away from his mechanical heart and gazes at you curiously while you fix your wrinkled dress.
âYou are one hell of a woman.â
A long sigh leaves his mouth as he speaks as if still processing your chaos. A sly smile appears on your face when you (finally) hear him speak properly.
âTook you a while to get talking didn't it mister?â
That grin on your face screams âthis wasnât even my best attemptâ but he shrugs it off. He unknowingly takes a step closer to you as if wanting your presence as close to him as possible. The (welcomed) intrusion into your personal space causes you to sharply inhale. He simply places his hand over the rim of your filled glass and whispers gently.
âYou think I'd let any lady come close like that?â
Your mouth practically foams as you try to formulate a response. Eventhough you're not looking him, you can feel his gaze on you which makes you nervous.
âI'll tell you something sweetheart. I've got some fudging business to attend to in a bit but the next time we meet, I'll finish what you started.â
His voice is low and rumbly as he subtly warns you of the consequences of your actions. He follows it with a tight squeeze of your hand and then steps away from you. Your mind protests his leave but you're too stunned to speak; had you put yourself on his wanted list now?Â
There is a devilish smile on his face as he checks his gun and locks it before walking away with it casually. Next time, he'd show you what a cowboy is capable of.
Hey, at least you were living out the dreams of those ranch ladies. âââŠââ ©mm-lurking 2024 do not copy, steal or reuse my work.

Can I request an angsty one where the reader and Marshall/Em/Slim (whichever you prefer) they have an argument and at one point he tells her he doesn't need her, he can have whoever he wants and they won't complain about anything like she does. And obviously she feels hurt bc it's always been an insecurity of hers that he could have anyone. And he just confirmed her fear. Hopefully with a happy ending thođđ»â€ïž please and thank you! Sorry it's so long lol.
needed - eminem
fem!y/n x Marshall Mathers
masterlist
synopsis: Marshall says he doesn't need her, but what does he do when he doesn't have her?
warnings: cursing, drinking
A/N: loved this request! very fun to write. if you guys want anything written, my asks are open. hope you enjoy!
-Fuck you!Â
-Oh, piss off!
Shouts could be heard from the Mathers residence that night. Y/N and Marshall were arguing over something stupid, again. They seemed to be having these arguments more and more often these days. This time, however, they were arguing over Marshallâs lack of communication. Heâd have a bad day, be rude to Y/N, and when sheâd ask what was wrong heâd blow up at her without telling her what bothered him. Today it seemed like heâd had an extra bad day.Â
âŠ
He got home from the studio later than usual. Y/N was reasonably worried, and when she called, he wouldnât answer. So, once he got home, she asked him a ton of questions; questions like âwhere were you?â âwhat happened?â âare you alright?â. This angered him to no end since he hates explaining himself to people.
He refused to answer questions. Y/N knew heâd probably just had a rough day so she decided to make him his favorite home-cooked meal and some hot cocoa and treat him to a lovely night at home. But, when she brought him his food and drink, he just told her he wasnât hungry, even after seeing all the effort she was putting in for him.Â
Thatâs when something inside of her just snapped. She set the plate and mug on the table fecklessly, spilling some cocoa in the process. Marshall seemed a bit startled, knowing Y/N doesnât usually throw fits like this and she usually keeps her temper in check.Â
-God, Marsh! Would it kill you to at least give me a thank you? Iâve tried so hard to find out whatâs wrong, and you wonât tell me! What happened to me being your #1 and your best friend? And come on! Look at this meal I made for you! Canât you see how badly I want you to let me help you?Â
-Fuck! Iâm sorry Iâm not living up to your boyfriend standards, Y/N! But, clearly, I had a rough day so just drop it!Â
-You know what Marshall? I have bad days too! But you donât see me bitching about it and acting like a little kid every time something doesnât go my way! And even when I do feel upset, I tell you whatâs wrong! Because I actually care about your feelings and I wouldnât want you to worry!
- Oh, so, now I donât care?! All I ever do is care about you Y/N! I write songs about you, I buy you everything you look at to make you happy, not to mention I make you feel pretty damn good!
- Itâs not about that Marsh! God, are you even listening to me?! I donât care that youâre upset, or that youâre in a bad mood or feeling mean; I just want you to tell me! I want you to communicate with me! I want us to work through our problems calmly, without me having to shout to get your attention!
-You always say that, but you never actually do it! Whenever youâre upset you just stay quiet! So donât go telling me how to deal with my problems because you sure as hell donât know how to deal with yours!
-Fuck you!
-Oh, piss off!
-Fuck, Marsh! This isnât about me! We can work through what I do, but you seriously need to stop!Â
-Stop it, Y/N! Stop already! If everything I do is so terrible and wrong, then why not just break up with me already?Â
-Because I love you! I care so much about you and I just wish you could see it.
-Youâre just saying that because you know I donât need your ass. You know I can get with whoever the hell I want and they won't criticize me or complain about everything I do half as much as you do!
Y/N stayed silent for a bit. Her heart dropped and she could feel the lump develop in her throat. All this time she was with Marshall, sheâd had her insecurities. But, he helped her work through them slowly. He helped her make sure she knew heâd never hurt her like that.
But, now, all that hard work was out the window. With those simple words. The tears began to prick her eyes and she looked down at the floor to try and conceal it. She felt like a little girl being yelled at. She felt helpless, and small. The man who was supposed to love her the most, to protect her, had failed her. He made her feel alone.
Marshall instantly felt a wave of regret wash over him. He felt it surge from his mind up to the tips of his ears down to the points of his toes. He looked at the girl he loves, knowing how badly he just hurt her. He opened his mouth to apologize, knowing heâd gone too far and he didnât mean it; but, before he could, she had walked past him and into their bedroom. He quickly turned on his heels to follow her.Â
Y/N was grabbing a few of her things: a hoodie, her phone charger, some gum, her earbuds, and some shoes. He once again tried to apologize but she wouldnât hear it. He followed her all the way down to the garage and watched as she hopped in her car and sped off. He wasnât sure where she was going, and, to be honest, neither was she.Â
She hated herself for complaining and she hated him for being so mean to her. But, deep down, she knew she loved him more than anything and everything. She gripped her steering wheel harder, and turned up the volume of the song she was listening to.Â
She pulled into the parking lot for some random bar she heard of from one of her friends. Her friend said it was the best place to go if youâre feeling sad or having a rough night.Â
When she walked in, the bar looked exactly how she felt. It was dimly lit, the smell reeking of alcohol and cigarette smoke. There were barely enough people to call a crown in there, all sitting far apart with a drink in hand. Everyone looked glum in there, so sheâd blend right in. She sat at the bar and ordered herself a few shots of rum. She downed them quickly, not feeling much different. She then ordered herself a vodka, which she kept refilling until the bartender just gave her the bottle.Â
She kept feeling her phone buzz in her pocket. She assumed it was Marshall. She didnât really want to respond, but she still looked, just in case. It was actually a text from her best friend asking what happened. Of course. Marshall texted her friend to see if Y/N was okay (since she usually goes to her best friend in times of need). Y/N decided not to answer, she was in more of a âfuck the worldâ kind of mood.
She set her phone down on the counter, finally feeling the effects of the alcohol. She wasnât sure how she was going to get home or if she was going to get home at all. Before she could continue that thought, she saw a series of texts, making her phone buzz repeatedly.Â
The contact name read âmarsh :)â. She truly didnât want to speak to him at the moment. She wasnât sure why what he said affected her this way, but it did, and he knew that. She knew she was probably just being sensitive, but she couldnât help but feel attacked.Â
She looked at her phone again and saw Marshallâs concerned text chain.
âhello?â
âbabyyy??â
âlook baby iâm so sorry i know i messed up big time. please call me back so i can fix this.â
She didnât bother reading the rest. She got more texts from him and her best friend. They seemed really concerned now. It was unlike Y/N, not answering the phone. It was cold, far too cold for someone of her character. However, Y/N wasnât in the mood or the headspace to care about her character. She was too busy trying to keep her head upright as her vision blurred a bit from the effects of the white russian she was creating in her stomach at the moment. From that point forward, she couldnât really recollect anything that had happened. The next thing she knew, she felt a pair of strong arms lifting her up by the waist and into their arms bridal-style.Â
âŠ
The next day, Y/N woke up in her bed alongside a snoring Marshall that had his arms wrapped around her tightly. She slowly shimmied out of his embrace, head beginning to pound when she stood up. She went downstairs and sat at the kitchen table with a small tonic for hangovers in hand.Â
As she was washing the cup she was just using, Y/N heard a set of booming footsteps as they pounded against the wooden staircase. She turned around to look at Marshall. He looked incredible. His hair was a bit tousled and his eyes and lips were puffy. He came down and approached her without a second thought. The first thing he did was put his lips against hers. The kiss was warm, brilliant.Â
Y/N crumpled under his touch. He pulled back and smiled slightly at her. His heart grew seeing her in front of him. He smiled even wider when he saw her smile back; however, he knew he wasnât forgiven just yet.Â
-Wait, look, I gotcha something.
He quickly walked into the living room and grabbed a small box and turned to the kitchen.
-I bought this a while ago. I wanted to give it to you somewhere better but this seemed like the right time.
Y/N opened the little box gingerly, a little nervous to see its contents. Her jaw dropped a tad when she saw it.Â
A small ring, diamond encrusted and the exact type of metal she wears. It was perfectly tailored to her tastes. She looked up at him, eyebrow slightly raised.
-Itâs a promise ring. I know what I said last night was fucked up but I didnât mean it at all. I love you more than anything and you know that. I could never be with anyone else knowing that youâre out there in the world.Â
He took the ring out of the box and secured it onto her finger. He then kissed her hand softly. She smiled taking in the view.
Then, she knew, more than anything, that she was truly loved.

Cold Metal Biting Soft Flesh | Yandere!Curly x Captain!M!Reader
1: Sanitized (~1k words)
Cw: Canon typical violence, my headcannons for post-crash Curly's wounds, no beta we close our eyes, body horror, lots of painkillers
This work does not contain smut but is 18+. Minors and fem-aligned people, please do not interact. AN at the end.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
It had been only a few hours after saving a man from a three decade old craft when youâd determined that he was going to be under your primary care, aside from medical, from now on.
The man, as youâd discovered, was in fact the captain of the Tulpar. Upon inspection of his wounds, which only occurred back at the ship and with him sedated, Rhodes discovered the harrowing truth that heâd been in a state of third degree full-body burns for over four months. Worse still, he had one half-functional eye with the eyelid burnt shut though the other was severely dry, eyelidless, but still in surprisingly good condition.
Immediately, Rhodes ordered someone to get the passengerâs company issued bio-fabricator, a critical technology with the ability to take biological elements and grow genetically similar (but not identical) copies.
Technically, it was reserved for creating more plants or animals in a biosphere lacking most of the required succession elements, but itâd be easy to grow supplemental skin, hair, and blood to perfectly match the burnt manâs body. He also ordered silver sulfadiazine cream to soothe the initial burns, and for the first time since the man was in the accident he seemed to not be in agony.
ââââââââââââââââââââââ
You sat beside the man. He still had his tongue and vocal cords, so he could talk (with much effort), but he was fully deaf so you had a captioning machine set up for him to read your words. Once he awoke, you silently showed him your badge with your name, picture, and title, which he read and nodded once he was done.
âAre you able to talk, sir? We need your name,â you said softly, watching as your head doctor, Rhodes, finally replaced the sticky, deteriorating bandages that practically cemented to his raw flesh. Luckily, the man was unable to feel it with how numb his entire body was.
He nodded weakly, eye never straying from you for long, and coughed. He spat up blood and saliva, to which you gently swiped a rag across his chin to remove it. âItâs okay. Take your time. This is Rhodes, heâs your doctor for now, but one of the passengers here is also a cosmetic surgeon and can start skin grafts once youâre ready.â
You sat back to give the man some space and idly wondered if the bio-fabricator could make enough connective tissues, nerves, and muscles to give him back his limbs. Rhodes left after replacing his arms and legs bandages, and soon the man tapped your resting hand with one of his handless arms and you looked back at him.
âCâŠurlâŠy,â he rasped out. His volume was lacking, but he couldnât hear himself so it was to be excpected.
âCurly? Is that your name?â
He nodded weakly. You spoke again, âCurly. Okay, and can you answer a couple questions for me? Shake or nod your head, if you canât talk.â
Curly nodded, and you began questions. âWere you the captain of the freighter I found you on?â Nod. âWere there exactly five people, counting you?â Nod. âDid the crash do this to you?â Nod.
âWas the crash on purpose?â
He hesitated, then nodded very minutely.
âDid youââ you were cut off. âJimâŠmy,â he croaked. Well, it sounded more like âJennyâ on account of his lack of lips, but you got the gist. âJimmy crashed the ship?â Nod. âDid the crew know that?â Shake.
âShit.â Nod. You chuckled at the nod and he looked up, like he was proud of making you laugh.
âSo⊠do you have your ID with you?â you asked, and he produced a fresh ID from a lanyard under his gown. âHuh. Did Jimmy put that on you?â You asked, to which he nodded. âWas he your friend?â A weak nod. âDo you know why he went batshit? I mean, heâs the only one who could have killed all of your crewmates.â Curly tilted his head like he was wondering what you were asking. You rambled too fast for the machine to pick up. âOh, yeah. Do you know of a motive?â Shake.
You glanced from the ID card to his face. Thereâs no mistaking those eyes. You notice thereâs something written on the back, but the handwriting is awful. âUm, it looks like Jimmy tried to give me instructions and told a five year old scribe. Can you decipher this?â You asked, showing him the text. Shake. âFine, I guess. Itâs good you have this, facial reconstruction can probably get you pretty close to your face from then.â
He shrugged and laid back, gazing at you. âWaitâŠâ he gasped. ââlease.â Please.
âYeah?â
âStay?â He pleaded, using what remained of his forearm to lock around your arm and keep you (only barely) in place. ââm⊠sâŠcared."
âScared?â You echoed, settling back into your chair and placing a hand on his thigh. âYouâre safe here. Everyone who goes in and out of here has high clearance and I know them all personally.â Even still, Curly shook his head. ââlease,â he echoed.
âI⊠suppose I could get Sealegs to move my desk into here. Would that be good?â Nod. Nod. Nod. âThis is Captain to Sealegs, Sealegs, do you copy?â
âI copy. Whatcha need?â Sealegs hummed. The sound of a familiar video game caught your attention.
âQuit playing Snake on government computers, first of all. Wheel my workbench to the medbay,â you requested, only endearingly annoyed at your nephew. After a few minutes, a young boy with the same eyes and hair as you came in with a rolling desk equipped with robotics equipment, soldering items, and more. Curly seemed to relax once you situated beside him and the two of you slipped into a comfortable silence.
âHey, Curly, can I take some measurements of you?â You asked after a couple minutes. âArms and legs,â you added. Nod. Curly lifted up a handless arm and waited for you to start, to which you took diameter and circumference of his arm, approximate length, shape of the amputation, and more. You did the same for the other arm and both legs, then you sat back down to work.
ââââââââââââââââââââââ
In a few minutes, you put your higher education to use and attached a crude prosthetic to his leg, but since he was numbed to hell it wasnât causing him any pain. You worked, he watched, and soon he fell asleep painlessly for the first time in probably a half of a year or so, for him at least.
Once he stopped coughing every time you looked away for too long, you were able to get some work done and sent off an update to your bossâyou told him that you had a new crew member on board, that you authorized the use of the bio-fabricator, and that youâd pay for his medical costs. Of course, you wouldnât tell Curly that. Feeling indebted to someone is a terrible thing.
You were in for a long night. You wanted to give him the most mobility possible, but itâd be up to him ultimately to use them. The least you could do is build him the choice.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
Iâm not happy with this, but if I didnât get it out now itâd rot forever :( thank you to everyone whoâs left kind words and reblogs and likes!! It means so much and if youve left any asks Iâm so sorry but tumblr SAYS i have 6 asks but none show up :(((

Throwing in my two pence here. This might get a little extensive and confusing, since I'm not great with words, so bear with me and trust me, ok?
First pence goes to this. Small thing on this being a non scripted series, yes, this is very true. None of the "curses" and stuff are planned, any references are usualy just thrown in for fun because the creators love watching us make our own stories and art, and Martyns lore is mostly his own AU that isn't connected to the main series.
But fandoms love making their own interpretations of stories, like Martyn does. It's why I have no problem with the "blessings and curses" of each participant. It's just the fan interpretations of funny coincidencs. The AUs we make. The fan content, artwork and stories, we make with the sturdy base of the life series. Jimmy and Martyn love reacting to fan made content, angsty or silly. They are loving it for the craft that it is! But they aren't canon, and never will be. Both sides know this. Scott's blessing won't always work, Grians widow curse won't always happen, and Jimmy's canary curse won't always play out quite the same as others expect it to do. Speaking of...
Time for that second penny. My interpretation of the Canary curse.
To me, the canary curse was NEVER about Jimmy being out first. It was NEVER about how he is bad at minecraft. It was NEVER about his permadeath being the the first one every time.
It was always about the chaos that came afterwards.
He wasn't cursed to die first, he was just the catalyst of disaster. When players would start to die left, right and center. It was a moment in every series where the red names would stack up and start to kill more and more, because now that a player had fallen, a sense of desperation falls across everyone. Dying first 4 times was just an unfortunate coincidence.
Jimmy is not awful at the game, he has some good skills. We can talk about that in a bit though.
The Canary in the coalmine might sometimes die to warn the coal miners of the poisons, but their silence without death speaks the exact same message.
Jimmy isn't cursed to die. Jimmy is blessed with a warning to everyone else that the end ic coming and discord wii be upon them soon.
And that warning is just his silence, through life and death.
He does not need to die for the Canary curse to come calling. Not to him. But to everyone.
Chucking in one extra penny, I would like to say that I very much think he can win. Genuinly, not having a laugh, not mocking it, and i'm not listening to anyone else. Session 3 gave me a scare, and i started doubting it, but i told myself (and Jimmy in chat) that i believe, and I was right to. Session 4 was amazing for him.
Jimmy is not bad at the game by any means. He can just be very unlucky. Events don't always line up for him so he ends up looking more incompetent than he is.
But when they do, well, just look at his 1v3 in dodgebolt and how he won the tournament for the crown in empires season 1, and remember how he spent the majority of Last life on YELLOW. And even episode 4 of wild life with how well he did in that session. I'm not saying he's the greatest minecraft player of all time because he does have his moments of lacking braincells like we all get, but he has got some skills. He just likes to mess about a bit to make things a little more entertaining for his viewers, he plays with his viewers in mind, but when he locks in, he very much locks in. And I love it.
I do still think he can win a life series. If not this one, maybe another one in the future. But I think he can do it. And if only one person in this universe believes that, then I am that one person.
Right, sorry if anything came off rude, im not the best at phrasing stuff so i might of misworded somethings here and there by accident. Again sorry if i did. I'm not here to change opinions, just to share my own. I'll leave now.
cries because everybody in this fandom sees the thought of Jimmy winning as a laughable impossibility and even people who say they're rooting for him only mean it as a joke and whenever you mention that he's doing good people have to let you know that it won't last long and inevitably he will die first because of some stupid self-fulfilling prophecy that got turned into my least favorite fanon ever. why can't he just be like a player who has a chance just like everyone else does. have you stopped to consider WHY he dies first so often? it's not a curse. this isn't a scripted series. it's because he's incredibly pacifistic and because people generally don't want to help him because they consider him a weak player. both of these things have been done away with this season, he has a taste for blood and an ally who is both incredibly underrated in his strength and has said he would never betray him. jimmy has as much a chance as anyone else.
#wild life#life series#jimmy solidarity#i wanna add something in the whole non scripted series segment about seperating characters from the real people#and the idea of these people minecraft personas being their own characters to the fandom. not the same entity.#but i couldnt make it flow quite right#the life series canon is the people#the fan interpretations are the characters#i think thats what i wanna say about that#but im not sure if i could ever word it perfectly.#ah well#im tired and its 1am and i need to sleep.#reblog#long post

~{ Here is the post that comes from this Post that comes from this Idea so here you gremlins go hope you like it! }~
đȘ»Family Of FeađȘ»
âąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâą
âąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâą
Clockwork knew this was going to happen but how he hoped it would be different that his parents would accept him as he is and take down the G.I.W so their children would be safe like is a few timelines but as he looks down at young Daniel who now has massive scaring on his back and neck, arms with a few scars on his face and legs he knew it was one of the moreâŠunsavory timelines.
But now some how Clockwork needed to take care and heal the boy but he canât take care of him in the way he needs as Clockwork is a ghost and never was human and with how the Ghost Zone is it would just end up hurting the boys human side but Clockwork still needed to keep a eye on him and have protection from the G.I.W and anything would hurt himâŠ.
Thatâs when it hits him, Nymphaea Forest itâs the home of a trooping of Fea that are known to have a certain soft spot for children especially hurt children and by Fea ages Young Daniel would be considered a child and that would be very safe due to only him knowing how to get there and the feral changings that reside in the forest with them, yes that sounds like a wonderful idea! Heâll bring the boy to them when he wakes up.
===========================
When Nightshade felt the air around the forest change she knew that Clockwork has needs something while she runs from tree to tree to where the river bank is as it is the only way to be here as she does so she is thinking of what Clockworks could possibly want with them he barely talks with them so why now?
But as her wispy figure sees Clockwork and a child?,a hurt child⊠oh she thinks she knows whatâs going on as she comes into view the child ( the too small child he looks around 14-15 far to small sheâll fix that as soon as possible ) he doesnât hide from her, good it will be easier to help and heal him if he isnât scared
A few minutes Clockwork explains the situation to her (while ignoring the other figures that are staying at the tree line and listening to them) and of course she agrees to take care of the boy
She holds out her hand for the boy who she now knows is named Danny for him and he grabs hers and she walks him to the tree line to his new home
===========================
~{ Now we doing something a bit different today to try it out and if I donât this will be so confusing }~
Letâs start with names and roles!
The leader of the Group-Nightshade
The Helper, helps The leader and Healer-Fig
The Healer-Danny
The Guard-Wolfbane or Bane
The Mischief-Belladonna, Bella or Donna
The Children-Jade and Jasper
Fun facts!
Fig was originally from a different group of Fea but joined them after his OG group kicked him out
Jade and jasperâs father left them in the woods after their mother died
Nightshade, Belladonna, and Wolfbane are the OG group of this
Danny looks and acts like the twins mother so they sometimes call him âmommaâ
The others besides the twins and Danny only come out at night due to the Fea having sensitive eyes and skin to the sun but the fog makes it so they can see out into the sun but canât be outïżŒ
The feral changings live in holes in the ground they dug the first night and day
Twins sometimes call Nightshade âGrandmaâ and the others including the Changings âAuntâ and âUncleâ like how Danny sometimes calls the other âsisterâ or âbrotherâ
The Fea have a rule: if you see a G.I.W kill on site ïżŒ
===========================
The Justice league were fighting the new big bad it was a more magic inculcate villain but not really that powerful or good at it really but he some how got his hands on a spell book with powerful spells and thatâs why all of them ( Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The flash, Green lantern and Green arrow etc) are fighting him instead of one or two of them
And than when they were about to finally get down ( Heâs like a cockroach! Flash said after hitting him ) he used a spell that brought them closer together and transported them somewhere but they passed out as soon as they got hitâŠ
They all wake up on a river bank? It looks like the sun is going down soon ( this is important later on) and one of them notices that there are some fishing traps ( when the children what fish so fish traps ) so they start to walk in to look for a way out until they hear the sounds ofâŠchildren laughing and running? In a few seconds they see two albino twins running and laughing they are barefoot and their clothes are covered in plants and a bit of dirt from playing
As the little girl runs from her brother she ends up not paying attention to her surroundings ( The twins with Danny have memorized the hole forest as it doesnât really change unless someone moves it ) and ends up running into Batman at full speed⊠and she falls to the ground due to the expecting someone there
And as someone her age does she starts crying and her brother immediately goes to comfort her and a few minutes later she calms down and just hide behind her brother ( this is the first time since coming here is she and Jasper meet someone without anyone else so yeah their a little nervous )
The heroâs ask to see their mom or dad so the twins start to walk to the house and the twins say some things that would be considered âconcerningâ for people outside of the know ( like the feral changings or the heroâs misunderstanding the things they say ) and when they get to the house for the heroâs they see this 16-17 year old that the twins are calling âmommaâ and asking when âthe others are coming homeâ and stuff like that
âąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâąâą
~{ And thatâs it! I hope you guys like it, for the details they are going to stay mostly the same but if you all want more information on that Iâll reblog it with that stuff also just a little fun fact about this I made this up after watching the movie âWatchersâ itâs one of my favs }~

there are so many things in veilguard that have made me go "wait what??? okay i guess i have to totally rethink the character i'm roleplaying now" that it's literally impossible to guess what thing you're referring to as The Thing That Happened. obviously extremely curious to hear what it is once you've detangled it
itâs kind of like that but itâs also less that and more... okay i should probably just say it, iâm being weird and unhelpful and i need to write it out anyway so i can think
MASSIVE SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT for a companion quest, do NOT say i didnât warn you. also please donât respond to this if you know more than me i am in distress but i still donât want spoilers
so i just finished lucanisâ âa murder of crowsâ quest. and lucanis. first talon. for some reason. (this is the writing choice iâm ??? on. also iâm ??? on lucanisâ whole storyline, frankly. the writing was. well. like i said, weâre not unpicking that right now, i donât want to get into it at this point, not the conversation iâm having.)
lifelong trauma of being in the crows and fighting to get someone in a talonâs position and keep them there -> the thing that gave sol all their diseases and made them, to be frank, fairly suicidal
viago: ultimately can handle it without them, especially with teiaâs backing.
lucanis: CANNOT handle it without them. holy fuck. for like twelve hundred different reasons, unthinkable, completely laughable, that he can handle this. who is going to protect him. the only reason this could be better at keeping sol mentally stable than watching viagoâs back is that they will never feel purposeless or need to go looking for an adrenaline rush, because forget crows, an ambitious blackbird could eat that man alive. he canât scheme. he canât even SCHEME and the very fact that he trusts sol DE RIVA demonstrates this. sol is a crow! from another house! does he have no memory at all of the fact that his own parents died in crow infighting? sol could have been playing him this whole time, it wouldnât have even been hard, and if they were that kind of person, then right now the first talonâs house would have just fallen directly in their hands like a gift from the maker, and they canât even say a part of themself they canât shut off isnât thinking about it that way! how is sol supposed to keep someone like that alive?
you see what itâs like trying to sleep while sol is having this discussion in my mind.
ahem. anyway. pathways for solâs life assuming they indeed make it through the game:
becoming lucanisâ guard dog the way they were for viago, which (even if they could mentally handle that, which they canât. or can they??) means switching house loyalties which would surely destroy them eventually -> bad
somehow trying to persuade lucanis to give this up, as if that wouldnât be throwing house dellamorte completely to the dogs, which at least sol canât imagine any crow is capable of, let alone someone so dedicated to clinging to what remains of his family that he couldnât even kill a traitor -> bad
going ahead and leaving the crows, but sol now has to leave BOTH viago and lucanis behind and also lucanis is going to die in there because they left him to do this alone -> bad
solution: sol is back on their original âif a blighted dragon eats me by the end of this, i donât have to experience consequencesâ train
and maybe theyâre right and i should not worry about this because iâm painfully aware itâs VERY bold to start deciding what happens after the game at this point, when they might still get trapped in the fade or turned into paste or something. and admittedly they did know and dread the possibilities from the first moment they felt something for lucanis, which was why they so wanted it to be anyone else, because anyone else in that lighthouse could have given them a different world, and he is the one who regardless of his best or worst intentions can only tie them tighter to a burning building. and SURE, i see the solas/mythal breakup parallels of sol still leaving, iâm looking at them, that doesnât mean i have to LIKE them
he hasnât even kissed them. theyâre doing all of this unkissed. lucanis dellamorte when i get you
again please absolutely do not respond to any of this with even the vaguest of hints if you know more about the rest of the game than me đ itâs probably best if no-one responds to this at all lmao i am just thinking out loud. you can reply with a âthatâs rough buddyâ. for sol

rereading lily's letter to sirius:
starting off strong with 'dear', very formal letter writing but also kinda endearing depends how you look at it. BUT she follows with his 'padfoot' soo it's def endearing. it already shows just how close the two are from those two words.
ofc harry's favourite present was the one sirius got him (#bestdogfather)
ofc sirius gets a 1yr old a toy broom (#funnestdogfather)
i love how chill lily is about harry almost killing the cat and smashing a vase. she's so the fun mum. also petunia and lily still sending each other christmas presents, like why do i find that so sad/sweet?? idk. i love their relationship sm it's so interesting. and ik some people are gonna be thinking 'oh petunia probably regifted the ugly vase' but no. i think she went shopping specifically for lily and picked it out thinking it looked great (she's got horrible taste)
lily saying james found it funny as if she didn't also. girl please, you know you found it so fucking funny. also james already planning out harry's quidditch career. the man is obsessed. (no war au hari def would've became a professional qudditch player i fear)
btw if you're not british, "we've had a very quiet birthday tea", basically means like an afternoon tea. they're not just drinking tea, they do have tea but also some food (like lunchy food, sandwiches and cakes) and sit down at a table and chat basically. and harry will likely also be opening presents during it too
harry kinda having a doting grandma with bathilda>>>
lily prioritising the order !! she's so responsible, smart, dedicated i love her. plus she's being so real about babies. like. yeah he ain't gonna remember it anyway (also i'm guessing this means like. sirius had an order mission so couldn't come to harry's birthday? but does this mean peter and remus did too? or was only sirius invited??)
james having trouble with just staying at home constantly <33 and trying to hide it so lily doesn't worry <333 cutest husband ever.
fuck dumbledoreeeee. i don't mind him sometimes, but how dare he take james' cloak (his family heirloom) so james and lily and harry can't go on secret outing together??? they are NOT made for staying inside. james needs his runs and flying and fresh air and chats to strangers and lily needs her woods and nature and hiking and camping.
"if you could visit, it'd cheer him up so much" SHE GETS THEM.. SHE GETS THEM
lily also calling peter "wormy", they're so also her best friends and not just james', do NOT even argue.
ik people argue this bit about the mckinnons as a proof lily was never close to marlene, but it so is proof of the opposite to me!! maybe i'm coldhearted, but i would NOT be crying all fucking evening just cause a family that i kinda know and am colleagues with one or a few of them got killed.. all evening??? ALL EVENING?? yeah, they were def close friends for sure. (and she's not just gonna single out marlene because it was ALL her family, it'd be a bit weird and disrespectful to only say marlene. especially if you, as a lot of people do, hc lily and marlene as roommates and close friends all throughout school. like lily would've visited marlene's family quite a few times. she'd know them fairly well)
lily getting ALL the gossip about dumbledore from bathilda. love that for her. also her not believing dumbledore was friends with grindelwald i'm giggling. she would've lost her mind at the idea of them as exes fr (also lily building up the suspense about dumbledore being friends with grindelwald by putting the "friends with grindelwald" part on the next page so he'd have to read the next page.. she totally didn't just run out of room. that was on purpose)

Bit of a fic idea (not necessarily a request). But what about a friends to lovers with Aaron Hotchner? Like they've been friends since childhood, she's a few years younger though. She was in the drama club with Hayley and is the reason the 2 met and she was the best woman at the wedding. But she's had a crush on Aaron for the longest time,t though always dismissed it as she valued the friendship more. She's Jack's godmother and is there for Aaron whenever he needs. She is a Sargent in the Marines, so gets the long hours Aaron does. She was deployed when she got the news about Hayley being killed by Foyet and rushed back as soon as possible. She didn't take another mission for a while after to be there for Aaron. Further down the line she considers maybe telling him her feelings but he starts dating Beth so she doesn't. Eventually she starts dating a guy in the army and Aaron is jealous though is in denial about why. It is only after Beth and him break up and he hears that readers bf might propose that he fully snaps out of his denial and confesses his feelings
That's such a good idea!!!! đ I don't know if I'll write the full thing one day but here's 1/2 and essay worth of thoughts I have about the concept!!
I imagine it would be even more heartbreaking and kind of a slow burn if you and Hotch knew each other before the drama club meeting with Haley. Like maybe you lived on the same street as kids and played together every day. And without realizing it back then, you were always meant to be together, because you just completed each other.
You would be a little jealous about Hotch starting to date Haley and eventually marrying her, as you had thought it would be the two of you one day. But since you value the friendship so much, you donât mention it to him, just wanting him to be happy in the end.
The wedding especially hurt to be part of for you, but you pull through, keeping a smile on your lips as you attend, give your toast, and do everything you can to help. Hotch is so thankful for your support during the wedding.
Youâre ecstatic when you learn about baby Hotchner, and when Jack comes into the world, youâre the first person he calls, seeing you as more like family than his blood relatives. And it might be the best day of your life (at the time) when Haley mentions theyâve been talking about godparents and then asks if you want to be Jackâs godmother.
When you start realizing that youâll never be truly happy as long as youâre around Hotch almost every day, you decide to join the Marines, throwing yourself into the work and quickly moving up the ranks. And when Haley dies, youâre, of course, sad for Hotch, but somehow you feel kind of desensitized to death and donât know what to say. Still, you drop everything and rush back to Quantico to be there for himânot so much emotionally, but at least to help him around the house and such.
Life eventually finds its rhythm again, and even though neither of you ever speaks about that time, you can feel something shift in him. But then Beth enters the picture. You see how his face softens when he talks about her, how he starts looking ahead instead of behind, and you canât bring yourself to disturb that happiness. You tell yourself this is what you wantâthat his happiness matters more than yours.
You didnât expect to meet someone else, but thatâs how life works. You didnât think much of it at first, but thereâs a comfort in his company. Aaron notices. He doesnât say anything, of course, but you feel the shift in the way his gaze lingers when you mention your boyfriend.
And when he hears rumors of an upcoming proposal, he canât ignore it any longer. He shows up at your door one night. For a moment, you think heâs come with good news, but he only stands there, jaw clenched, his fists tight. âI donât want you to marry him,â he says, and then, âIâGod, I should have said this a long time ago. Youâre more than just my friend. Youâve always been more,â he admits.
And then you kiss, and itâs really passionate.

@lamentationsofalonelypotato
The angst was so real (in the best way)! đ
She does, she's just afraid to admit it to herself and afraid to have those feelings for someone who doesn't love her back. And it really makes you want to hit her over the head with a frying pan LOL. And thank you! That's how I intended it to be, which is even more heartbreaking đ
It does make sense, poor thing. đ She's so unwilling to believe he could love her the way she wants/needs, while he's hesitating to allow himself to do it. And I'm thinking he's fighting off some self-doubt/self-worth issues as well?
I love this journey of self-discovery for her, both with her brother and past, and with her expanding powers. It's pique Hero's Journey stuff! đ
Plus, I really think that the creature is adorable, well, besides the murder tendencies. (I guess we could also say that about Ben LMAO)
LMAO factssss. Who could say no to that adorably confused grandpa face?
The reader is killing me tbh. I know I've said this before, but writing slow burn is literally almost as bad as reading it. Don't get me wrong I LOVE slow burn, but oh my stars sometimes it's so frustrating for them to both be in so much denial lol. I shouldn't complain because I did this to myself and now it really is "oh look the consequences of my own actions" lol.
LOLL the slow burn is a killer for both of us! "The consequences of our own actions" is so deeply relatable for the writing process. đ€Łđ€Ł
Thank you so much!đ For me there really is something wonderful about reading/seeing creative chaos in a home, and also looking at creative spaces that people have. I think that there is warmth and comfort in a home that looks lived in. It's why I don't love minimalism, because it looks cold if that makes sense lol.
Aw you're welcome! I totally agree. I love seeing that as well -- it's like getting a window into a person's mind through their living space. I don't like minimalism for that reason either!
Again, I was so on the fence about Soothsayer, but what you said about her being in "an even better position to give her advice when it comes to that man" is exactly why I decided to include her.
Honestly it was a great twist! It makes her friendship with Ben more fleshed out and her own past, and how it serves to help the reader now. Especially now that it seems she's going to help get the reader and Ben together! đ
I know đ She is going to realize it soon and I am so excited about that reveal. Oh plus I do think that she does know deep down that she does love him and care about him, but she's afraid to admit it because she doesn't want to fall for someone who she believes doesn't value relationships like she does.
God I can't wait!! lol And I totally get that. She really does seem to realize how deep her feelings run for him, but she's afraid, for the reasons you said. đ„Čđ„Č
Mayyyybbbbeeeee...đ Honestly, as much as I love reading fics where the reader isn't a supe, there's always a little part of me that can't help but see the reader growing old and Ben staying the same, and it always breaks my heart. There really is something so intimate and romantic about being able to truly spend your life with someone else, not just your life and then they go on for another few centuries.
Ooooh yesssss. đ And totally agree with you there! It's too bittersweet for me when you know one of them is going to die someday and the other keeps living on, carrying the weight of their memory. It's why I had to come up with that twist in BMD loll. Thank you for noting on that! It took some head scratching and BS science (and some inspo from my love of Smallville), but I think the reasoning was convincing enough on how the reader in BMD "caught up" with his longevity of life. đ I also love the idea of the plants giving her healing abilities and prolonging her life through that cell regeneration. đđ
It's my favorite line too! That and the bundt cake đ. But you're right, he's afraid of everything that he's feeling and after Countess, he's not sure if he should fall for someone again.
Can't forget the bundt cake!!
Oh yeah, Countess sure fucked him up. đŹ That, along with the torture and years of being treated like a god in all other respects. đ«
Oh Ben, he'll get there. He just needs some actual love in his life, and someone stubborn enough to not only put up with his shit, but like you said, "take a chance" on him. đ
It's always my pleasure to read your stories, hun! Giving the feedback is the least I can do. đ
Chapter 14: Don't Be A Bundt Cake
Pairing: Soldier Boy x f!reader, Reader POV, Soldier Boy POV
Summary: When you decided to work with Butcher and his merry band of supe hunters to take down Homelander, you never expected to be saddled with a sullen, grumpy, jerk like Soldier Boy when the job was done. The more you're around him the more you hate him, but you can't help but wonder, is he really as big a jerk as you think? Reader is a supe with plant powers. This takes place in an AU about a month after the end of The Boys Season 3, in which Butcher has let Soldier Boy continue to work with him on his team. (I'm real bad at summaries, please forgive me!)
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers (Not in this chapter), Slow Burn, Age Difference (Reader is in her 20s), Soft Ben/ Soldier Boy, Protective Ben/Soldier Boy, Miscommunication Trope
Word Count: 13.1K
Warnings: I'm going to label this 18+ because Soldier Boy (he's a warning and everyone knows it), Swearing, Mentions of Sex, Sexual Innuendo, Talks of Death, DENIAL, Idiots in Love, Pining by the Reader (and SB, but he won't admit it) Depressing Thoughts, Mentions of sexual assault/rape (not detailed at all, really just in passing) Talks about weed, Sexist comments, Ben makes derogatory comments, Threatening Ben/Soldier Boy might be a little bit OOC.
Note: This is told from Reader's perspective. Any references to the reader is made using you or your. There is minimal use of y/n. I tried my best to proofread, but nobody's perfect. If you donât like, donât read, but if you do like, youâre my favorite!
Internal monologue is in italics and is in first person.

Main Masterlist
A/N: I am so sorry this one took me a bit longer. The writers block was fighting me the whole way, but we are very closely nearing the end of this series and the moment the reader and Ben stop being so stinkin' stubborn.
Reader POV
You lean your forehead against the cool window, watching the world flash by in a flurry of color. The wooded forests had vanished hours ago and all that was left were the yellowed sprawling fields of corn and grain and family farms that were laid sporadically along the interstate. Each one a little world that caught the flecks of golden sunlight as the sun began to peak above the horizon.
The bus rolled smooth and steady over the weathered pavement towards it's destination and was filled with an odd assortment of people young and old. There was man with a brightly colored parrot that had been singing "It's A Small World After All" since you left NYC, a woman with a little boy playing with an iPad and who refused to turn down the volume no matter how many times his mother asked him to, a group of teenagers a few seats up that continued to pass around a flask, and due to how far back you were sitting on the bus an uncomfortable smell emanated from the bathroom each time the door was opened.
But you didn't notice any of it.
The only thing on your mind were the events that happened almost twenty hours ago. They continued to circle your mind, playing over and over again like a perverted cassette tape making you sink further into the worn cloth covered seat at the back of the bus. The images were haunting, some new and some old, but all the more still horrible to re-live.
The song "Nights In White Satin" floating into the backseat of your family's car, the flash of unnatural light you knew was never lightning, the caskets at your parent's funeral covered in flowers that were much to pretty to lay on something so morbid, Elijah's body succumbing to the poppies that ripped him apart, the proud sneer on your brother's face when he admitted to killing your parents, Darren's broken and bloodied body strewn in pieces over the street with the creature standing over him with a dripping red maw, the ruined building that housed "Please Don't Die" reduced to nothing more than rubble, and the look on Ben's face when you turned your back on him and fled the scene.
For some reason that particular image seemed to cling on to you and refused to fade. You'd never seen him look that way, almost⊠helpless and a little fearful. In all the time you'd known him, Ben had never looked at you that way. Sure you'd seen him proud, angry, cocky, lustful, mischievous, but never fearful. And you were sure that it wasn't an emotion that he was used to feeling, but that begged the question⊠why?
Why was he looking at me like that? Why wouldn't he let me go? And what was he afraid of?
The creature curled in your lap snorts something in it's sleep, turning itâs head further into the cradle of your elbow to shut out the brilliant early morning sunlight. It was now the size of a toaster and had warranted several odd looks whenever you got off to change buses, but you didn't care.
You weren't sure about anything anymore. Everything your brother confessed to you made you feel like you were living a lie and the revelation of exactly what your powers could do- take life from plants to heal yourself, create whatever the hell it was on your lap, and speak to plants⊠it scared you.
You thought for so long that you knew everything about your powers, that you were in control, but now you weren't sure.
You felt different, as if something had unlocked deep down that you couldn't shut up again.
You'd felt different after you killed Elijah, but this was more alive, weaving and twisting in the pit of your stomach. You felt more connected to the earth, to the world outside the bus even though you were divided by glass and metal. You could feel the energy that thrummed through the body of the creature on your lap, bending to your will, the life force of the plants it was formed from molding with you, becoming a part of you.
You felt so different than the person you had been before Darren entered the shop, so uncertain, and there was only one place you wanted to be when you felt like this⊠home. You couldn't wait to run up the worn front steps of your grandmother's house and into her arms. She always knew what to say in times like this.
And you desperately needed the comfort of her embrace.
The phone in your pocket buzzes again and you flip the screen to see the ridiculous selfie Annie and you had taken on Halloween last year. The one that you'd both spent dressed up as the two brothers from your favorite paranormal tv show. It wasn't the first time she'd called. Annie had called and texted you more times than you could count over the past twenty hours but you didn't answer her. You didnât want to.
It was the first time that you didn't want to talk to her, but talking to her meant that you'd have to re-live all of it again and you were clawing at the last shred of sanity you had left to keep it together.
The overwhelming waves of emotion kept pummeling you, dragging you deeper beneath the white surf. Each one brought the memories of what happened surging over you and were followed by everything that Darren said to you. Years of taking care of Darren and doing whatever he wished were tearing at your soul, years of giving up little things in your life to make him happy, and years of taking care of a man who you thought cared about you, but hated you enough to kill your parents and try to kill you too.
It made your skin crawl. Each time your brother told you that he loved you was an even bigger lie and now that you knew the truth and saw him for what he was, it felt like you were drowning. The darkness that ebbed just on the edge was begging you to leap into the abyss, but you were resisting the best you could.
The tears had stopped falling miles ago, but you couldn't stop the memories or the emotion that formed a cold ball in the pit of your stomach.
A sigh works it's way up and you pull your legs on the seat underneath you, jostling the creature on your lap that raises it's head for a moment to blink it's black eyes at you sleepily.
It was surprisingly docile right now, especially considering that twenty hours ago it had ripped your brother to shreds. In fact it seemed to understand how upset you were and had spent the better part of the last twenty hours rubbing it's head against your arm as if trying to bring you some comfort. It was settled on your lap, the weight of it a comfort, almost like a weighted plushy that gave you something to focus on.
"It's alright buddy." You whisper, scratching him under his chin. "We're almost home."
The phone in your jacket pocket buzzes again, but when you pull it out to turn it off, you catch a glimpse of the screen, and you hesitate. Because this time it's not Annie who's calling, itâs Ben.
The picture that flashes on the screen under the contact name "Gramps" is the picture of Mr. Fredrickson from Up. It always made you smile whenever he called you and you saw the picture because Ben did often remind you of him. He was certainly just as grumpy as Mr. Fredrickson and just as out of touch, but you thought it was cute.
Your thumb hovers over the answer button and you think about talking to him.
But what would I say?
You weren't sure what to say to him, or why you wanted to speak to him so badly, why you wanted him to be sitting here on the bus with you as you went home, and why you wanted him to hold you against his chest while you allowed yourself to break, but you did. You wanted to feel his awkward shoulder pat and his awkward version of hand holding and you wanted to hear him try to tell you to "buck up" or whatever he thought that a comforting word should be.
He's really not the best at that.
You smile to yourself at the memory of how he tried to comfort you back at the hospital, but the longer you sit there and look down at the picture on the screen the worse you feel.
Maybe that scared you more than your newfound powers, how much you were realizing that you needed him, how much you depended on him when things got too much for you to bear. The memory of him appearing as soon as you needed him back at the shop, another of him grabbing Darren and throwing him into the street as soon as Darren insulted you comes in a flash, and finally followed by the memory of Ben carrying you out of Elijah's office while you curled into his chest. You couldn't remember too much from that moment, in fact you'd thought that Ben had kissed you on top of your head, but you ascribed that to the haze of pain you'd been in from your broken arm.
What you did remember was how wonderfully warm he was after you'd been trapped in that damn freezer and how nice it felt to be in his arms. Another memory of Ben sleeping on the couch at the hospital bubbles up and you feel something in your chest begin to crack open. And you try your best to tell yourself the same thing that you always do when you feel like Ben might care more about you that he was letting on.
Ben doesn't want that. He's made it perfectly clear. He doesn't want a relationship. He's only wants one night, that's why he goes out with all those women-
You hesitate, thumb still hovering over the answer button as you do, the memory of the week you'd spent at the apartment with him flickering in the back of your mind. The week where he refused to leave you alone in the apartment, where he refused to do any jobs for Butcher, where he took care of you the best way he could, when he sat with you on the couch and made you laugh with his ridiculous movies, and the week where he hadn't had one date.
Your finger itched to answer the phone, but you couldn't, because you didn't want to feel this way about Ben, not when he'd told you countless times that you kept romanticizing him, not when he told you that he didn't want a relationship, and not when you could feel yourself beginning to fall for someone you thought was the wrong man.
For just a moment you tried to pretend that it was different, that he was different, but you didn't want to. It only made it hurt more.
The phone stops ringing, but the pit in your stomach still gapes open at you and for the first time in twenty hours you feel tears begin to fall. You didn't know why you were crying about this, why the thought of not picking up Ben's phone call seemed to hurt more than everything that had happened, but something made it hurt.
The bus driver announces over the overhead that you're reaching your final destination as he takes the exit for your hometown. The familiar buildings that line the streets are sheathed in a honeyed glow from the sun, the long shadow of the bus darkening them momentarily as it rumbles down the small streets to the bus station.
When it rumbles to a stop at the bus station you wait for everyone else to get off, trying to summon the strength to stand, and swipe the back of your hand across your face to rid yourself of the remaining tears.
The bus station was about a thirty minute walk from your grandmother's house, and you still hadn't called her. You didn't know what to say, didn't know how to tell her that Darren was dead and that he was the reason why your parents were dead.
The creature crawls up your body to drape it's warm body over the back of your neck as you stand. It wasn't bothering to hide, besides the people in your hometown already thought that you were odd because you were a supe and you'd always welcomed it. You give him a scratch on top of his head and his warm tongue flicks on the bottom of your earlobe as if thanking you before it curls further into the side of your neck, seeking warmth.
The first few steps on solid ground are shaky, but you find the strength while taking in a deep cleansing breath of the outside world, letting the gentle warmth of the sun and the tickle of the autumn breeze pull at your coat. You hadn't stopped at your apartment before coming here, instead you had stumbled your way to the bus station covered in dust, flecked in blood, and demanded the first ticket back to Illinois. It was lucky that the next bus was leaving immediately, because you didnât want to spend another second in NYC, not when all you wanted was to be home.
Plus you were worried that someone had recorded what exactly happened outside the plant shop and you didn't want to get arrested.
It was self defense anyway. Maybe Jake would represent me in court.
The thought of Jake makes you twinge. You hadn't checked to see if he was alright before you ran from the scene. Not to mention you'd destroyed the shop he'd put all his life savings into after he stopped being a lawyer.
Oh fuck, what if he sues me? He can't exactly sue DarrenâŠ
You hear someone call your name and you open your eyes.
Your grandmother is standing in front of the same baby blue pickup truck that she'd had longer than you've been alive, wearing a long multicolored skirt and a pressed white blouse tucked elegantly into it. Her silver hair is loose and long, curling over her shoulders in gentle waves. She looks the same way she looked one week ago when she left, and you've never seen anything so beautiful in your life.
You're running before you can stop yourself, crumbling into her warm embrace, with more tears streaking down your face, but she doesn't mind.
"Shh. It's alright honey." She whispers, rubbing her hand over your back, her embrace steady and surprisingly strong. "Let's go home."
Her home is the same as it's always been. A two story Victorian house painted in a happy yellow shade, with a white wrap around porch and two white rocking chairs sitting empty on the front porch. You'd spent more nights than you could count rocking silently beside her with a crochet project in your lap listening to the rain fall and soak the world outside, while the plants sang praises with every gentle bend beneath the heavy droplets.
You could barely remember the home you spent in your early years with your parents, not when you'd spent most of your childhood spending the night here and after your parents died living here permanently. There was still a large oak tree were a wooden swing swung in the slight breeze on the left side of the yard, a gardenia bush that stretched as high as the second story on the right side of the house and brushed it's soft leaves against the sunshine colored outer walls, a garden filled with both flowering plants and herbs that perked up on both sides of the front yard as you walked up the path, and a cobblestone path that Annie and you had spent hours of your shared childhood covering in chalk art.
Neither of you were good, but when the rain would fall and smudge the clean lines, you'd jump in the puddles that pooled along the walkway singing the lyrics to ABBA's "Cassandra" not quite understanding what it meant.
Standing here outside your house made you miss Annie and feel worse about not calling or texting her back, but you didn't feel like talking about what happened and you were sure that Butcher filled her in. The only thing that you wanted was to collapse in your bedroom upstairs and curl under the comforters.
Despite everything the house was a welcome sight, but at the same time it was different. You could feel the plants calling out to you, asking for you, bending towards you just to touch your shoes as you walked by. You'd never felt so connected with them before, not even when you were in your apartment or working at the shop. It was overwhelming.
And although a part of you was frightened by it, another part of you rejoiced in it. You didn't feel alone, didn't feel weak, and you knew that you never would ever again.
The creature nuzzled into the side of your neck with a sigh, soaking up the sun's healing rays as you walked up the front steps with your grandmother following behind you silently. She hadn't spoken since she picked you up at the bus station and you hadn't supplied anything in the ten minute car ride back to her house.
You didn't know where to start and you were still trying to process everything yourself.
The inside of her house was just as cozy and warm as it was the day you moved out. There were photos of your parents and you covering the walls (Darren's had been placed in the closet long ago), half-finished knitting projects sorted in different baskets on both the dining room table and the living room coffee table, spools of yarn were strewn over the couch sorted by color, and the fresh smell of gardenia wafted through the open windows on the breeze.
It was home. This was what you'd been missing the moment everything began to crash over you, but as you stood there in the familiar living room it felt like something was missing. Something tugged at the back of your mind, but you couldn't put your finger on it.
There was something or rather someone that should be here, but you didn't know what or who. And your mind supplied Annie, but you weren't sure that's who you meant.
"Let's have some tea." Your grandmother says from behind you and you feel her soft hands come down on your shoulders to steer you through the familiar creative chaos and into the large kitchen at the back of the house.
The kitchen isn't spared from the madness, it rarely was. There are boxes upon boxes of cookies in different stages of being packaged all over the counter, dirty bowls and a measuring cup stacked in the sink, and a large opened bag of chocolate chips spilling over the flour covered kitchen island.
It wasn't unusual to find the kitchen or the house in a state of chaos, your grandmother always said that a house should look lived in and that the mess was part of the fun of any major project as long as you were responsible enough to clean it up.
"Bake sale?" You ask as you sit down in the breakfast nook, uttering the first words that you'd said to another human being in twenty hours.
The next breath that you inhale was supposed to be cleansing, but you can still feel a weight pressing down on your chest, the same one that settled in the moment everything happened with Darren.
You contemplate again how you're going to tell her that Darren is dead and was the reason why your parents died.
Damn it Darren.
"Mhmm." She hums, filling the well used red kettle. "Annie's mother practically cornered me in the supermarket yesterday and begged me to make cookies. I love Annie, but her mother needs someone to pull that stick out of her ass. It's been up there for so long that I'm sure it's rotten."
The creature crawls down from your shoulders and down your arm to sniff at one of the chocolate chip cookies nearest you. It hadn't eaten sinceâŠ
Darren.
You wince slightly at the thought and hope that you hadn't created something that needed and craved human flesh. The last thing you wanted to unleash on the world was Audry two especially in the wake of Homelander.
Truthfully you were waiting for the guilt at killing your brother to come, but it never had and you wondered if it ever would.
Probably not. He deserved that, he killed our parents, he tried to kill me, he tried to kill Ben.
The thought of Ben again makes a lump form in the back of your throat. You didn't know what was happening to you only that you felt guilty for leaving him like that, for yelling at him to let you go, and just vanishing on him when he probably thought that you were going back to the apartment.
He doesn't know where I am. Maybe that's why he tried to call, because he got back to the apartment and couldn't find me there and he was worried. You press your lips together. Yeah. Worried. Right.
"Honey?" Your grandmother says in a soothing voice
You look up from the box of chocolate chip cookies that you didn't remember picking up. Even the creature is looking at you with an expression that you can only explain as worry.
"Yeah?" Your voice shakes slightly.
She's leaning back against the counter, arms crossed over her chest, head tilted slightly to the side, her beautiful grayed hair pulled up in an elegant bun, but in her eyes you can see genuine concern. "Fuck." She sighs after a minute.
You blink in surprise. It was the first time that you'd ever heard her say that word in your entire life.
"I shouldn't have left." She breathes. "I told Ben to look out for you. I told him, that little bastard was bound to show up again and what did he do? He left you at that plant shop alone with no protection!"
You'd only seen her really angry a handful of times in your lifetime. Like you, your grandmother often had a gentle disposition and didn't get angry unless the situation called for it.
I mean, Darren admitted to killing our parents and then got fucking ripped apart. But how does she know about any of that? I haven't told herâŠ
"How did you know that he left me there? Did Ben call you?" You ask putting down the box of cookies.
An odd expression crosses her face, as if she's contemplating something. "No." She hesitates again. "I saw it."
"No." Your grandmother hesitates. "I saw it."
"You saw it?" You repeat, confused.
What's going on?
"Too late of course, but I'm a little rusty. I was able to warn Ben that Darren was coming back. That's how he got there so quickly or rather-" She shrugs sheepishly. "He got there in time to make sure that Darren didn't get you to forgive him. Which you shouldn't have at all, but I know he's always had a talent for manipulating you."
"What?"
Is she saying what I think she's saying?
Instead of explaining further your grandmother walks out of the kitchen, leaving the kettle behind on the stove and you in a state of utter confusion.
Is she saying that she can see the future? Because that would mean that she's a supe and there's only one supe in history that I know of that can do that. A supe that no one has seen in over forty years.
You can hear her open the door to the closet under the stairs and the sound of her sifting through all the junk that the two of you had shoved in there over the years instead of finding the right place to put it.
When she comes back into the kitchen, she's holding a giant cardboard file box that you'd never paid attention to each time you opened the closet to find something. Your eyes shift from the box to her still not comprehending exactly what she was saying.
"I probably should have told you this a while ago, butâŠ" She trails off and nods her head at the box before turning back to the kettle on the stove that has begun to scream. "I kept putting it off."
The box is old, worn at the edges, and theres a musty black fabric beneath a collection of yellowed photographs. You pull out the one on top to examine it.
Ben is standing there in his full Soldier Boy regalia outside of Vought tower and the woman standing next to him is Soothsayer. The outfit she wore was familiar, a black-skin tight suit with a blind fold tied over her eyes.
Soothsayer was a supe who could see the future and who was apart of Payback, a supe that had vanished a year before the mission in Nicaragua and no one knew where she went. There were rumors that she'd died and that she'd been a Russian spy, but you'd never believed them. You'd heard Butcher talk about how he tried to find her when he was trying to figure out what happened to Soldier Boy, but he never had. Said that the trail went cold.
But now you knew where she went, because she was standing directly in front of you.
She's Soothsayer? Holy fuck that's why Ben kept accusing her of cheating in the poker game because he knew that she could see the future.
"You were Soothsayer?" You gasp. "But why didn't you say anything? Why didn't you tell me?"
She continues to measure the tea leaves. "I didn't tell anyone."
"Grandpa didn't know? But he was alive when you were a supe?"
Your grandfather had never spoken about a history with supes that you remember.
"No." She turns to look at you, a hurt expression crossing over her face for a minute. "Well, I know that I said I was going to have tea, but if we're going to talk about this I'm going to need something a little bit stronger."
Your grandmother opens a cabinet under the stove an pulls out an enormous bottle of scotch. Truth be told you'd never seen her drink more than just a glass of wine, to see her like this was about as shocking as seeing a polar bear sunning itself on a Florida beach.
"Do you still want the blueberry tea or do you need something a little stronger?" She looks back over her shoulder at you as she pulls down a glass for herself.
"I think I need something stronger." You answer honestly.
Learning about everything Darren had done was one thing, but finding out that your grandmother used to be a famous supe and that she never told you about it was another thing. It was like looking at another person. You'd always loved your grandmother's gentle way, her care for her community and her family soft, but now you weren't sure you really knew who she was.
She sits down across from you and hands you a glass of the amber colored liquid. There's a heavy silence that hangs between the two of you as she tries to find a way to start. The photo of her and Ben is laying on top of what you realize is her uniform inside the box and she smiles down at the photo, just a little twitch at the corner of her lips.
"I met Ben when I was twenty three years old." She begins taking a sip from the glass. "Legend 'discovered' me. I had the injection of Compound V maybe two years before that, not when I was born, but I hadn't gotten popular. Other powers were much more flashy and by then there were so many heroes coming out of the woodwork that someone with the ability to see the future didn't seem as marketable."
There's something reflected in her blue eyes, the same eyes your father had, that you can't place. "I had just moved to New York, I had no money, and the way I was getting it was by pretending to be a fortune teller and betting on some sports events on the side. It wasn't hard to prove that I could see the future, the past was more difficult, but Legend somehow stumbled into my shop and figured out that I was a supe. And he didn't think I was too bad looking so he helped me get big."
"You pretended to be a fortune teller?"
She snorts into her glass. "Mhmm. People really will believe anything if they're desperate enough and back then there was so much turmoil going on with Russia that people were scared and wanted to feel comforted. My job provided some of that."
"But why did you walk away from it if you were such a big hero." You ask. "Everyone knew your name, you were-"
Your grandmother raises an eyebrow at you and you fall silent so she can continue. "When I got onto Payback that's when everything exploded for me, the films, the commercials, the ridiculous ads." She sighs. "That's also when I met Ben."
You take a sip from the glass in front of you, sputtering slightly. It was stronger than you were expecting. "And you two were-"
Please don't say dating, please don't say dating, please don't sayâŠ
"Friends. Just friends." Diana sits back against the back of the breakfast nook, sinking into the navy blue pillows. "But he is almost as charming now as he was then."
You cringe at the thought of Ben coming on to a younger version of your grandmother.
She taps her glass with her index finger deep in thought. "But I think that I was the only person that Ben actually talked to, the only person that he was comfortable being around."
"What do you mean?" You ask confused. "Didn't he talk to Countess and to Legend?"
Her expression hardens at the mention of Countess's name. "He didn't talk to her the way he talked to me. Ben is difficult, he always has been and I think that most of the people he meet him write him off as this asshole with a chauvinistic look on the world, but he's not. At least, not all the time. There are so many people that he's met that are never willing to take a chance on him. To trust that there is really something beneath all of that bravado."
It was what you had been thinking for the past week, that there was more to Ben than he was willing to let people see, but you were slowly realizing that Ben was letting you see those parts. In the quiet moments at your shared apartment when he sat with you while you read or made you laugh or walked you to and from work you saw another side of Ben that you never saw when he was around anyone else. The guilt rises again when you think of how you ran from him, how you turned your back and left him standing there to clean up your mess.
I shouldnât have done that, but it was all just so overwhelming and I didn't want to talk to anyone.
"I think that Ben is the most loyal friend I ever had. No one ever seems to believe me when I say that. That we were just friends, but nothing happened between us."
"You didn't date? Or sleep together?" You ask cautiously. It was difficult to imagine Ben being friends with a woman and not having a sexual relationship with her.
Well. We're friends, but that's different.
The last thing you wanted to think about was Ben and your grandmother having sex.
I would need so much therapy after that. You sigh. Yeah, because after all the shit I've been through and found out about my life in the last twenty hours, the knowledge that Ben fucked my grandmother is what's going to push me over the edge.
"No." She shakes her head with a small smile. "About a week after I met Ben, I was running late to a movie shoot and I stepped off the crosswalk without looking. There was a car coming and I didn't see it. Ironic isn't it?" She laughs at herself. "I can see the future and I didn't see a car coming, but your grandfather did and he grabbed the back of my jacket and yanked me onto the sidewalk, saved my life. And the second my eyes locked with his I saw our future. I saw our wedding, our first house, I saw our son take his first steps and I saw how much I would love him and how much he would love me." She clears her throat for a minute, her fingers tighten on the glass, and her gaze drops to the wedding ring on her left hand. âThe future is never set in stone, itâs fluid. It morphs and shapes with your decisions, but in the future I saw, I was so happy. And I didnât want to lose that.â
Your grandfather had passed a few years ago, but you knew it weighed on her everyday. She had spent the week after he died in her room not saying anything to anyone. And sometimes she'd look out the window into the backyard with an odd expression, but you knew that meant she was thinking of him.
Growing up you'd seen how in love the two of them were, more so than your parents. Seen the flowers your grandfather always brought home just because he was thinking of her, watched him do little things around the house without being asked, saw how they never walked away angry from one another, and seen the soppy expression he'd get when he watched your grandmother move around the kitchen baking with a grace that you'd never possessed.
You reach across the table to touch her hand and she takes it gratefully.
"I didn't want to tell him that I was a supe, and at the beginning I thought I could balance it all, but then Ben started dating Countess." She takes another sip from her glass. "She hated me."
"What? Why?" You ask. The creature crawls across the table to sniff at the glass in front of you, before it snorts and falls into your lap, curling into a ball.
"Countess was a bitch." Your grandmother says mirthlessly, her expression hardening. "She wanted to possess Ben completely. Only loved how famous he was, how popular it made her, and he threw himself at her feet, in his own way, not understanding that love didnât look that way. Heâs never had a good example of it in his life. And she never understood that Ben and I were just friends. By then I had been dating your grandfather for a few months and things were getting serious. It was about a year before everything that happened in Nicaragua."
She presses her lips together as if remembering what happened to Ben there. "She was jealous, possessive, and she came to me one night. Ben was out of town for a film so she knew we wouldnât be interrupted. She threatened to tell your grandfather who I really was and threatened to kill him.â Her jaw sets. âMy powers were never really as offensive as hers were. And she said that Ben wouldnât ever protect me over her because he loved her and would do anything to make her happy. So I left and I never looked back.â
And here I thought I couldn't hate Countess any more than I did for what she did to Ben.
âYou didnât talk to him ever again?â You wonder out loud.
She left without telling him goodbye?
âThere was the occasional phone call. Sometimes Ben would ask me to see who was going to win a ball game or something so he could make a few bucks. He stopped by to say hi a few times because he was in the neighborhood. One time he brought your father a baseball glove that was way too big for a one year old.â She snorts, the memory flashing in her eyes. âI always thought Ben would be a good dad some day. But I think seeing your father was when Ben realized how much he wanted to have kids. And I think seeing the way your grandfather treated me made him start to feel conflicted about Countess. But he respected that I walked away, he saw that I was happy.â
âBut what about Nicaragua?"
A dark look crosses her face followed by something that looks suspiciously like guilt. âI saw what they were going to do to him.â
âWhat? But why didn't you tell him what they were planning? Why didn't you-"
"I tried." She snaps, shoulders tense, but then they drop. "I called Ben, but Stan answered. By then your father was turning two, your grandfather had opened up his practice, and Stan threatened me, he knew where we were and knew everything about us. So I kept my mouth shut and Iâll regret it for the rest of my life.â
You could feel your heart breaking for her.
Ben was her best friend and she had to sit by and watch them do that to him. She saw what they were going to do and they were going to kill her for it, kill my family for it.
The anger that surges in your chest makes the creature in your lap stir and grow a few inches, but you tamp it down before it gets bigger than a small dog.
âDoes Ben know?â You ask her to distract yourself.
You didn't want Ben to hate your grandmother for this, didn't want him to hate her for something that wasn't her fault.
She nods. âYes. I told him everything.â
âWhen?â
âThe moment I saw him in your hospital room. I couldnât keep it in any longer. I wasn't expecting him to be there, but it all poured out of me. I was so surprised to see him there. I hadn't seen a future where he came back."
âWas he mad?â
I mean⊠he didn't seem mad when I woke up, not to mention he was upset when she left to come back to Illinois.
âNot at me.â She shakes her head. âHe knew how much I wanted a normal life and how much I loved your grandfather. He doesnât blame me for any of it.â
âGood. I canât believe you didnât tell me.â
The glass in front of you is still more than half-full but you don't want to risk another sip of what you're sure is gasoline packaged to look like Scotch. Your grandmother reaches to pour herself another glass.
âI didnât want to until you were ready.â
âAnd when would that be?â
Your grandmother shrugs. âMaybe on my deathbed.â
You weren't angry for her not telling you, more surprised, but now that you knew everything about her it was hard to see her the same way you had.
You snort. âAnd no one knew?â
âYour dad figured it out.â
âHow? When?â
âThe moment you made that strawberry plant grow from your high chair.â She shakes her head with a smile. âIt skipped a generation. Donât know why, but you got it all somehow.â
âI was never injected?â
âNo. That was a lie your father created. He knew that your grandfather didn't know and he knew that I didn't want your grandfather to know."
âDarren thought I was.â
âI know.â
At the mention of your brother's name, you watch her expression harden and she takes another swig from the glass in front of her, not flinching as the liquid goes down her throat.
âDid you see everything that happened?â You ask in a small voice.
You still weren't 100% sure how it was her powers worked, but you figured that she was able to see some of what Darren did and what he said.
âYes.â
âYou heard everything Darren said?"
âYes.â
You chew the inside of your cheek for a minute hoping that she didn't take it as hard as you did. âDid you know that he killed them?â
âNo.â She breathes, rolling the glass between her hands for a moment. âThe night they died, I got a vision a few minutes before the car ran off the road. I was the one who called the police and who told them where to look, but I never saw that it was Darren or that it was anyone causing the accident. All I saw was the three of you in the car. I should have known.â Her voice breaks.
âItâs not your fault.â You squeeze her hand.
âAnd itâs not yours either.â She squeezes your hand back.
The memories are beginning to float up from the recesses of your mind and your teeth clench together as you try to keep them at bay.
âI know.â You breathe. The memory of the ruined shop flashes through your head. âI didnât know that I could do something like that.â You gently touch your healed right arm and glance at the creature that is nibbling on the edge of the cardboard box with its sharp splinter-like teeth. âI feel so different and I donât know how to go back to the way I was.â
âI donât think you ever will.â
"Really?"
The thought was unwelcome. You were hoping that all of this was going to blow over, but you knew it wouldn't. Your powers had changed. There was an energy that thrummed in your veins now, stretching out of the house to the plants that grew in the garden. You could feel them all if you concentrated.
She frowns. âWhen you told me that you were working for Butcher I was worried about you getting involved in the supe world. I didnât want that life for you, didnât want you to suffer the way I did-â
âWas it really that bad?"
âNot all the time, just at the end. But I think thatâs why I loved your grandfather so much. Because he was different than all the supes. He was down to earth, not just normal but-â She shrugs. âI think Compound V does something to our minds, makes them more susceptible and when youâre surrounded by people using their powers and thinking that theyâre gods itâs easy to lose who you are. I was glad I left when I did."
âGreat." You huff, thinking about how your powers had grown exponentially since you killed your brother. It was scaring you to think that you would reach a point where you acted like Homelander, where you saw yourself as a god and killed anyone who stood in your way.
As tired as the stereotype of you only being able to make the flowers grow, you liked doing that. You liked healing plants, tending to them, and helping them grow. For you it had never been about using your powers the way that you had to kill Elijah and your brother and had always been about spreading a little more joy and love like your grandmother did with her kindness in her community.
Your mind flashes back to the first night that Ben stayed with you in your apartment and he'd asked you why you worked for Butcher and told you that he thought you "didn't fit."
Before you hadn't. You knew that. You weren't intimidating to look at or fueled by revenge or had a bone to pick with supes. You'd joined because you thought it was the right thing to do and because you wanted to be closer with Annie. She had been so involved in the supe world and you'd felt like you were losing your best friend. When in reality being at "Please Don't Die" was the only thing that felt natural for you.
You could feel yourself changing and you weren't sure that you wanted to and you weren't sure if you were changing for the better. Deep down you still felt like you, despite everything Darren had revealed, but your powers were greater than you'd thought they could be.
âNo.â She squeezes your hand pulling you out of your head. âI donât see you losing yourself in this.â
âYouâve seen-â Your eyes widen.
âThe future yeah.â Her lips twitch up at the ends in a smile. âIt is what I do.â
âThatâs so weird.â
You hadn't meant to say it, but you really didn't want to know too much about your future.
Well, not all that much. Maybe just a little.
âYou of all people have no right to judge whatâs weird. Not with Godzilla sitting in your lap.â
"Godzilla" yawns, flashing a mouthful of his pointy teeth, before settling back down on your thighs.
You smile for the first time in twenty hours, but then it drops. âI donât like losing control. I thought I knew who I was but now I donât-â The emotions were bubbling up again, chest tightening, and lungs beginning to gasp for air. âI donât know who I am anymore or what I am or what I can do and-â
âThereâs nothing wrong with not being in control.â
âBut what if I hurt someone? What if I kill-â You body shakes as you think about all the important people in your life, Annie, Hughie, Butcher, Kimiko, MM, Frenchie- and then your mind stutters on Ben.
âYour powers are growing and thereâs nothing to be afraid of or ashamed of. If youâre afraid of them it wonât get easier for you. You have to embrace the fear to see the lights that line the path through it.â
"I killed Darren, I killed Elijah-"
"Not because you lost control. You did it because you were protecting yourself and protecting your friends."
"But-"
"Who is it that you're scared of hurting? Annie?" Her expression turns sympathetic. "Annie is a supe and understands what it's like to lose control. None of us are in control all the time and it's ridiculous to believe that you won't lose control at least once."
Your throat clenches tightly, because when she asked the question you didn't see Annie's face, you saw Ben's. You knew that it was probably ridiculous to worry about hurting a guy with a nuclear reactor stuffed in his chest or a guy who'd been through every torture known to man, but you were. And you weren't entirely sure if you meant hurting him with just your powers.
Tears crest and fall down your cheeks as you sit there, throat thickening. "I don't want to hurt Ben."
"He's a little more indestructible than us sweetie." She cracks a smile, but you can't smile back and you don't answer because you're unsure how to.
She sits back against the breakfast nook and sighs, examining your face and slowly realizes what you mean. "Ben is complicated. He always has been. I like to think that most of it, is his father's fault. Has he told you anything about him?"
You shake your head.
"He was a dick. Made Ben think that he was a disappointment his whole life. I don't think that Ben has had someone love him unconditionally since his mother died. And loving Countess only made it worse for him. Her love was jealous, possessive, and I don't think that he's really come to terms with what real love should look like." She lets out a breath, tapping her index finger against the glass. "I never saw him as more than a friend, but I do love him. It's not a crime to love him."
"I don't love him." You say it immediately.
"Why not?"
"What?" You sputter. "I don't know what you're-"
"Tell me why you don't love him." Your grandma says methodically, as if she's trying to talk you through it.
"Because I-" The pressure was back in the back of your throat and you couldn't quite meet her eye. "Because-" You scramble for the answer, trying your darndest to keep your heart from clenching in your chest. "I want what you and grandpa had, what Annie and Hughie have, and what my parents had. A strong relationship with someone who sees all my flaws, the little parts, and the darkness and still choses to fall in love with me anyway. I don't want just one night I want every night. I want something real and Ben has said countless times that he-"
"So you've talked about it with Ben?" She raises an eyebrow.
"Only because he kept trying to sleep with me and I told him that I didn't want to have sex with him." You reply exasperated.
"You don't?"
"Gran!"
"What? He's attractive."
"It doesn't matter. None of it does. Because Ben has said that he doesn't have relationships, that he doesn't care about feelings, or emotions." Saying the words that Ben had told you countless times made something inside begin to shrivel up and die. "And I do. And I don't want to manipulate him into being something he's not or force him into a relationship that's doomed from the beginning. Ben is Ben. He's not changing or-"
"He has." She interrupts.
"What?"
"The Ben I saw in your hospital room is not the one I knew." She says it so matter of fact that makes it hard to breathe. "And neither was the one that I saw in your apartment when I stayed with you. I mean he is in essence Ben, but-"
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"He is changing. Not completely, but he's acting differently than when he was with Countess. I mean, I saw all the things he did for her. The way he was around her."
"Why does that matter?"
"Because he loved her."
The words make your heart seize in your chest. "Ben doesn't love me. He's my roommate and my friend-" It was the same thing that you kept telling yourself on repeat to beat back the other feelings that you hadn't quite identified yet. "And he's told me that he doesn't want a relationship and that I should try to meet other people."
That last part was a lie, but you honestly didn't know where she was going with this conversation or why it was getting so hard to breathe.
"Have you thought that maybe Ben doesn't want to love you because he's scared?"
"He doesn't love me and Ben isn't afraid of anything."
"He is. It might not look the same way on him as it does on everyone else, but if you pay close enough attention you can catch it." She hesitates. "And I think if you pay attention to you, you'll see what it is that you're afraid of too."
What does she mean? What the hell am I afraid of? Ben isn't afraid of anything, he's practically shouted that from the mountaintops like Julie Andrews.
"I already told you what I'm afraid of."
"I'm not talking about you hurting someone honey. There's something else that you refuse to admit to yourself because you're scared." She smiles sadly at you. "You should though, because when you embrace it, what comes after is really beautiful." There's a far off look in her eyes and you realize that she'd seen something further ahead that she wasn't letting on.
"And it's all I want for you. To be happy." Your grandmother stands from the other side of the booth "I think you need some rest. You drove all night long and I doubt you got any sleep. And I have to package all of these before Annie's mother calls down the four horsemen of the Apocalypse on me."
"Wait-"
"Please sweetie." She lays her hand down on your arm. "I think you'll feel a little better about all of this when you've had some rest." Her fingers raise to push back some of the hair that's fallen forward into your eyes. "Hmm?"
You didn't want to rest, you wanted to talk about this, but you knew better than to argue with her. Not to mention she was right, you hadn't slept.
"And when you wake up I'll make your favorite for dinner, alright?" She smiles, but there's something behind it that you can't place.
"Okay."
And this time you don't argue with her. You go up the worn staircase that you have your entire life and collapse onto your bed, wondering exactly what it was she saw your future hold, and what it is that you won't admit to yourself.
Soldier Boy POV
There was no light in the apartment save from the burning red tip of Ben's blunt and the bluish glow emanating from the tv that caught the dips and sharp edges of his face. But it was nothing more than background noise.
His hand absentmindedly stroked along Bean's back, his eyes focused on the ceiling above the couch. He hadn't moved in hours. It had been over twenty four hours since everything that happened at the plant shop, since you'd summoned a creature from the depths of the store, since Darren had thrown Ben through the plate glass windows of the bakery, and since Ben had last seen you.
He didn't understand why you hadn't let him take you back to the apartment and why it was that you had to leave. Ben hadn't liked the feeling that stabbed him in the chest when you turned your back on him and ran away. He'd felt the urge to comfort you the way he'd watched Hughie do for Annie in the car a week ago, but you hadn't let him.
Instead all he'd done is stood there and watched you run, still covered in dust, rubble, and blood. Worse was you hadn't let him check you for injuries and Ben hated the thought that you were hurt somewhere and he didn't know where you were.
You were so much more fragile than he was. He was realizing that more every day, was acutely aware of it after everything that happened with Elijah. Honestly, sitting there in the hospital with you laying there asleep with nothing that he could do, but wait for you to wake up had been agony. Not to mention that looking at the bruises around your throat, over your eye, and the bright green cast only made him feel worse. He'd never felt so helpless in his entire life and he hated it. Because Ben wasn't some helpless damsel in distress, he was a man and a man shouldn't wait on anyone or feel out of control, or at least, that's what he told himself.
Ben hears someone walk down the hallway outside the apartment and he perks up to listen, hoping that it's you finally coming home. Ben's mind stutters on the word "home." He'd lived many places in his life, apartments that felt more like way-stations, and the drafty cold mansion back in Philadelphia where he grew up, but neither felt like home. And although he hated how small your apartment was, it was the first place that Ben liked living in. He was starting to understand the word home.
But the feet keep moving past the apartment and Ben sinks into the couch cushions. Even Bean seems to be disappointed. "It's alright buddy." Ben mutters. "She'll come back."
But he wasn't sure.
Ben also wasn't used to feeling this way. It was close to the way that he felt when he went to Boston and was sitting in that damn hotel room waiting for something to happen and he still didn't understand what it meant. He didn't understand why he couldn't stand it that you weren't back yet. It made him feel like a woman waiting for her husband to get home from work when he told her that he was "running late." He'd tried to distract himself by looking at some possible prospects on Tinder, but just like the week after you'd come home from the hospital and just like the date he had in Boston, no one held any appeal.
His mind was awake and roaming around, pacing back and forth. The blunt was supposed to help, but it hadn't.
His phone chirps and Ben picks it up to look at the screen, but it's not you, it's Jake.
Jake: I know that I'm not your favorite person, but thank you for what you did.
Ben huffs and turns his phone face down on the couch once more. "What a fucking pussy."
When you left Ben had realized that Jake was still inside the building and as much as he wanted race after you, he understood that you'd be even more upset if you'd killed Jake. So Ben had tromped back through the building and found him trapped beneath some rubble. Jake was okay, just unconscious, but Ben had carried him out and put him on the sidewalk before he high tailed it out of there. The last thing that he wanted was to be caught with a shredded body outside a ruined building.
I didn't do it for him. I did it for her. Ben thinks to himself, looking down at the text message.
As much as he hated the thought of saving your future boyfriend, he didn't want to see what it did to you if you found out that you killed Jake, so he'd done it to avoid watching you cry again.
Ben didn't understand why he hated watching you cry.
Women cry. They're damn emotional all the time. He tries to reason with himself taking a puff from the blunt pinched between his thumb and forefinger. And she fucking cries way too much.
The image of you crying outside of the shop in the wake of everything that happened pricks something under his ribcage. Fuck.
Ben didn't feel remorse for what happened, well, the only thing he regretted was not getting there sooner and getting to fuck Darren up himself. When Diana had called him to tell him that Darren was coming, Ben had practically ripped the apartment door off in his haste to get back to you. He hadnât wanted to leave you at the plant shop, but Butcher had told Ben, that he had a possible location for Darren, but it came up empty and Ben had been at Butcher's apartment chewing him out for sending him on a fucking wild goose chase.
It only made Ben more angry to allow Darren to speak to you, but he was trying to let you handle it even though he wanted to handle him. But it had brought him an unholy amount of joy to throw Darren in front of that minivan and to watch that creature tear him apart while the final whitish blue pulses of electricity jumped and crackled down the street making the streetlights shower sparks everywhere.
But Ben was more upset that Darren had been able to land a few hits on you before you killed him.
Ben remembered the giant lizard that crawled out of what was left of "Please Don't Die" and felt his lips quirk up into a smile. As much as he hated the entire situation, Ben couldn't help but feel a little surge of pride at what you'd done to your brother. He'd never seen you look so powerful standing there in the street, your eyes glowing a brilliant green, arms outstretched, and the ground trembling around you as the world begged to be unleashed.
Of course he'd been just as surprised as you were at the fact that you'd healed your broken arm. He wasn't sure if you'd noticed it yet, but you looked different too. There weren't as many lines on your face and your hair was more springy, the few silver hairs that Ben had noticed in passing were no longer there.
He wasn't sure what that meant, but there was something that felt suspiciously like hope tingling in his stomach, hope that you weren't as fragile anymore and hope that it meant you wouldn't die.
When Diana had told Ben that her husband had died, he saw the pain in her eyes when she said it, saw her relieving the memory, and for some reason as soon as she said that he was dead, the first thing Ben thought about was you. Ben hadn't considered his inability to age as much in the past, hadn't cared about outliving anyone before. Seeing Countess as an older woman had made him more aware of it. Looking at the woman who he once thought he loved, had showed him what that was like. Not that he had a problem with daring older women, Ben always thought that women really did get better with age, but it was what came next that Ben wasn't fond of.
And for some reason thinking that one day he'd wake up and see the marks of age on your face or one day he'd wake up and he wouldn't be able to annoy you or hear you yell at him made his chest tight.
Ben takes another hit of his blunt. The longer he sat there the more then unnatural feeling stirred in the pit of his stomach, thrumming through his veins, the feeling that he was trying to avoid. He thought that the joint would calm him down, but he found himself jumping at every creak and footstep in the apartment building, perking up each time and hoping that it was you coming home.
He didn't know where you were. You hadn't answered any of his texts or calls and Ben was ashamed at how many times that he had tried to call you.
Get a fucking grip. He'd thought to himself when he typed out another text message to send you, stopping himself from sending it.
But he'd been so desperate to hear from you that he'd actually gone to talk to Annie who seemed upset that she couldn't get ahold of you either. When Hughie and Annie had seen how upset Ben had been, Hughie had laid his hand on Ben's arm and told him not to worry. Ben had yelled at him that he "wasn't fucking worried and to mind his own business" and had shaken off Hughie's comforting hand before stomping out of the shared apartment.
No one else seemed to be as concerned about finding you. Butcher, MM, and Frenchie were all deeply involved in trying to figure out the cover-up for what happened outside the plant shop. By some miracle no one had caught a picture of your face, but there was little they could do about Darren's body that had been strewn across the street. Annie was having to deal with the repercussions at work, trying to handle what the news was calling a "super villain threat."
Personally, Ben thought that since they froze Homelander, the Seven looked weak and Ben believed that the superhero team that represented America shouldn't look weak. Of course before Ben had also thought that they looked like a bunch of pussies and again felt himself sink deeper into the couch when he thought about what his supposed son had become.
He shakes off the feelings he has about it and his thoughts turn back inevitably to you.
Ben wasn't used to thinking about someone as much as he thought of you, but each time he settled back into the apartment and you weren't there he was hyperaware of how quiet it was.
Maybe I should call Diana. She might know where she is.
As soon as Ben thinks that, his phone begins to ring, but Ben doesn't bother to look at who it is before he answers it.Â
"Hello?" Ben huffs out a breath of smoke that hangs in the air in front of his face, catching in the bluish light coming from the television.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" The voice on the other side of the line yells at him.
"Di?"
"Yes it's me. Who did you think it was? Santa Clause?" Your grandmother snarks.
"Why are you calling me and why the fuck are you so mad? What did I do?" Ben answers slightly annoyed.
As much as you got under his skin, your grandmother had been the same way. He actually thought that it was amusing that even before he figured out that she was your grandmother that he had often compared you to her in his mind. You had the same mannerisms, the same defiant and stubborn attitude that drove Ben up the wall, and you were just as beautiful as she was.
Ben was okay with admitting that he was attracted to you. To him that felt normal, it was the other feelings that he was conflicted about, the ones that he'd never felt before stirring in his chest that made him feel "too emotional" and "woman-like."
Truthfully, Ben was sure that if your grandmother had given him a shot that maybe he would have felt that way about her too. She was the only person that Ben actually trusted in the 80's, the only person that was brave enough to call him out on all his shit. You did that now. But he liked her husband also, so Ben was content with letting her go. He liked how happy that Henry, your grandfather, had made her. He knew that she wasn't happy as a supe and seeing her so happy and in love made Ben feel something that was close to happiness.
And it was seeing the way the two of them were together made Ben wonder if what he had with Countess was the same thing. Because he did have feelings about her that were different, but each time he went to visit Diana and saw your father playing on her lap he felt that there was something missing in his life.
It was the same way that he thought something was missing when you weren't in the apartment, but Ben hadn't realized that yet.
"Because I don't understand what the hell you're doing!" Diana replies and Ben honestly doesn't know why she's angry with him.
"About what?"
"My granddaughter."
Ben sits up the blunt in his fingertips forgotten. "Is she there with you?"
"Yes." Her voice softens for a moment.
Ben relaxes and leans back onto the couch, sighing in relief. "Good. That's good." Relief swelled in his chest when he thought about you staying with her, safe.
That's what she meant when she said that she wanted to go home. Home is with her grandmother. Ben stopped the next thought before he could go there.
The thought that home wasn't with him.
Ben was trying not to think about that or think about you hating him. He didn't think you did, well, didn't think you did anymore. At first it really was touch and go, but now he was almost eighty percent sure after you'd told him more than once that you weren't afraid of him and didnât hate him that you sometimes wanted him around.
"No, not good."
"What do you mean? Is she okay?" Ben's grip on the phone tightens so hard that he's sure that he hears the screen cracking.
"No."
"What happened?" Ben's voice is a growl, the feelings of relief evaporating as soon as they had begun to bloom in his chest. He mentally calculated how long it would take him to get to you.
"Her entire life fucking fell apart and where are you? Not here!"
Oh. Ben relaxed a little bit.
"I don't need to be there." He says on an exhale of smoke.
"Yes you do!" Diana presses.
"No, I don't. She a big girl she doesn't need me there, she's-" Ben takes a puff from the joint.
âIf you were any denser youâd be a Bundt cake Benjamin!â She says exasperated.
"What the fuck are you talking about doll? I am not-"
âLet me guess." She interrupts and Ben can imagine her tapping her foot. He hated when she did that. "Youâre moping around smoking a blunt on the couch probably with a glass of something that you're hoping to numb whatever the hell it is you're feeling."
Ben's eyes shift to the bottle of whiskey on the coffee table that he hadn't touched in a few minutes.
âIâm not fucking moping and stop spying on me!â He snaps back at Diana.
He hated how well she knew him. She was his best friend in the 80's through all the shit, she had seen him at his worst and at his best too many times to count.
âI donât have to use my powers to know what youâre doing. I know you Ben.â
"Sorry to disappoint you sweetheart.â Ben grits his teeth, temper flaring hot. âBut if you know me as well as you fucking say you do then you then you know that this is-â
âYou avoiding your feelings by acting aloof and brooding like a fucked up version of Mr. Darcy.â She interrupts.
She certainly hasn't changed.
âI am not avoiding-â
âShe needs you here Ben.â Diana stamps her foot, the same way you do when Ben pisses you off, and Ben can hear it.
âShe doesnât need me! She said that she wanted to go home, that she didnât want to be here with me! I tried to-â Ben shouts back standing up. It was the exact thing that he'd been thinking for the past twenty four hours, that you didnât need him and that you didn't want to be any where near him.
That last thought made an uncomfortable sensation prickle in his gut when he thought it, because all it did was remind him of how you acted when the two of you first met, when you didn't want him to live with you and tried your darndest to make him go away.
He didnât want to and he wasn't sure why that was.
âTry harder.â Diana interrupts him again and frankly it was pissing him off.
Ben clenches his jaw. âI think that youâve confused me with someone else baby.â
âDonât you 'baby' me Benjamin! We both know that youâre doing what you always do when things get hard for you.â
âAnd whatâs that?â
âYou pretend not to care and shut out everyone who tries to care for you. Not to mention you drown yourself in drugs, booze, and women.â
âShe doesnât care about me!â He spits.
âShe does!â Diana snaps back. âAnd believe it or not she needs you here and she wants you here.â
"But-"
"Ben please." It was the first time that he'd heard Diana sound softer and almost pleading since the conversation started. "Don't do this to her. She's worth more than Countess and all those other women you've fallen into bed with."
"Do you really think I don't know that?" He roars. The answer surprises himself. "Do you think I don't know that she's different?"
Wait what?
"If you know that, then why aren't you here?"
He hesitates.
Everything you said to him the night of the party comes roaring back. You looking beautiful in a dress that made his throat tight, and you telling him that you just wanted to be friends and that you understood that he wasn't the type of guy to have relationships. He didn't understand why it stung a bit when you said that, but it had.
Ben thinks about the week that the two of you spent together after Diana went home, when he tried his best to take care of you, distract you from everything that happened with his movies, and would sit with you and try to make you laugh. He'd never wanted to take care of someone before.
Not to mention he kind of liked the way you laughed. He wouldnât admit that to anyone, but each time you did, it made him want to laugh too. That had never happened to him before. But he wanted to make you laugh to forget everything that happened with Elijah. His fist clenches when he thinks of exactly what Elijah tried to do to you and it makes him feel so mad that he feels close to spontaneously combusting. Ben might not be the best role model when it came to women, but he couldnât imagine the type of man who would force himself on someone else.
It had made him angry when he thought that you were suggesting that he would try something when he first moved in, because he wasn't that type of man.
Ben was trying to be better for you. He wasn't admitting that, but he really was trying to be better. He didn't understand why. You'd told him countless times that you didnât want to be with him, that you wanted to be with someone else like Jake.
Ben frowns when he thinks about the man he'd pulled from the rubble of the shop. And again thinks to himself that you should be with someone different, someone who was a supe and could understand you. Ben had seen how difficult it was for Diana when she was keeping her supe life a secret from your grandfather and he didn't want you to have to do that with someone.
"Because I'm not-" Ben begins to say, but he holds his tongue. It was too honest, too raw, too unlike him to admit this to anyone.
Because I'm not this guy. Because I'm not the one she wants. Because I'm not some knight on a white horse. Because she's everything right with the world and I'm just a fucking asshole who sleeps on her couch.
"Ben." Diana breathes and he can practically hear her pinching the bridge of her nose. "In all the years I've known you, you've never done what you did for her with anyone else. You carried her out of that warehouse, you stayed with her in the hospital even after she woke up, you took care of her when she came home, you protected her from Darren. You can't ignore all those things."
"I'm not ignoring them. She's my friend." The word sours in his mouth as he says it. "And she would have done the same thing for me." He knew it was true.
She's a good person and she wouldn't let me chase her away if any of that shit happened to me and I told her to leave me alone.
"Yes she would. Because she cares about you." Diana sighs.
"She doesn't."
"Why don't you believe me?"
"Because she's told me what she wants!" Ben shouts so loudly he can feel the room shaking. "She wants to be friends-â
"Because she doesn't think that you want a relationship you nitwit!"
"I don't." Ben spits the words before he can stop them, but as he does something tightens at the base of his throat.
"How is it that it's been forty fucking years and you're still able to dance on the grave of my last nerve?"
Ben chuckles. "I missed you too sweetheart."
She sighs into the phone again making it crackle in Ben's ear. "She needs you.â Diana repeats. âAnd I think you need her too.â
His temper was flaring again, the thoughts that his father pressed into him surging up before he can stop the words. âI donât need anyone. Iâm Sol-â
âIf you say that youâre Soldier Boy, Iâm going to reach through this phone and slap you silly.â She snaps. âAnd you do need her, but youâre still just too stubborn to admit it.â
âI-â
âBen I know that everything that happened with Countess was fucked up, but my granddaughter she-â Diana pauses before she changes the thought. âYou say that you know sheâs different, but right now youâre treating her the same way you treat all those other women.â
âIâm not-â
âMy granddaughter has decided youâre important to her and once thatâs happened itâs hard to make her let go. You saw the way she was with Darren and that guy was a manipulative asshole. Imagine what she thinks of you.â
âI-â
âStop making excuses!â
âYou didnât even hear what I was going to say!â Ben shouts.
âAnd I donât need to! Think what you want Ben but if youâd stop acting so stubborn and so ridiculously blind to whatâs right in front of you. I promise that what comes next is worth the risk.â
âDonât go all fucking mystical on me doll.â
âAnd donât go all macho- no feelings asshole on me! So stop being so damn stubborn, get on a plane and get your ass here.â She retorts. âDonât fuck this up Benjamin because if you do Iâll fuck you up.â
The line goes dead.
Ben sat there for a minute in the silence still holding the phone up to his ear, listening to what your grandmother said to him ring around in his head for a second.
No one ever spoke to him that way. In fact, Ben had never allowed anyone to speak to him the way that she did, well, not until you came along. You reminded him so much of her that it was astounding and he wasn't going to admit that maybe it's why he liked being around you so much.
Ben frowns at what Diana said, thinking about the unusual feelings that were swirling in the pit of his stomach. He felt wrong and the feelings were odd for him. He hadn't felt anything remotely like this ever in his life, not even for Countess.
And although Ben refused to be afraid of anything, the feelings he was having scared him. He didnât understand and he wasn't sure that he wanted to. He wasn't sure that he wanted to see where this ended up. He felt like he was in too deep.
As much as he wanted to go to you like Diana ordered him to, he wasn't sure that he should. Something was holding him back, digging it's heels in and refusing to budge.
But why do I feel like-
His phone rings and he doesn't look at the caller ID when he picks up, expecting it to be Diana again, yelling at him.
"Di I-"
But it's not Diana.
"Hello Ben. It's nice to hear your voice again." The familiar voice says, sounding calm and collected.
"What the fuck do you want?" Ben snarls.
"I thought it was time the two of us had a chat.â
