I found a... really bad take about how "Azula can't have abused Zuko because abuse is such a vague term!" It's the reblog that's pretty bad lol.

I think you've linked me the original post with a different reblog before, and in general wingsfreedom is a person to be avoided. "When did Azula try to control Zuko?" Indeed. Not like "all your life you've used fear to control people" is a climactic line in Azula's story.

Anyway, the reblogger does two things typical of abuse apologists. The first is to confuse the meaning of words. The next is to try and claim that abuse is too "harsh" a word. Of course abusers don't want you to be able to name the abuse. Also notice the contradiction of the word being both too vague yet too strong to use. The purpose of this kind of argument is to deliberately confuse the meaning of words to silence any argument. That's why these people are so afraid of the word abuse. Calling this fictional character abusive is double plus ungood because I say so!

Anyway, abuse as a word is certainly not vague. There are a couple of casual meanings of the word, but that's not what we mean here. The way we're using the word here, and the most common meaning, actually has a very specific definition involving being cruel to, using, or causing someone harm by taking advantage of a power dynamic, and often in a repeated pattern. As OP themselves said, abuse is about control, and a major theme in Azula's narrative is her need for controlling the people around her in the way her father controlled her, and how that led to her ultimate downfall.

Abuse also usually has to do with interpersonal relationships or breach of social etiquette. Claiming that all the characters are abusive because they are fighting in a war is nonsense, because fighting in a war comes with an understood social contract that both sides will try to harm each other. Nobody has an unfair advantage over anyone else because you don't expect your opponent in battle to not fight you. Now, certain things like torturing POWs ARE breaches of that contract, and are considered abuse. But fighting on the battlefield is not.

What Azula does to Zuko is abuse because she uses her position both as his sister and as her father's favorite child to manipulate him with the intention of causing him harm, whereas Zuko feels an obligation to listen to her both because she is his sister and because he's been conditioned his whole life to see her as superior to him. She absolutely tries to control him, and is able to at various points. She almost gets him to walk into her trap in the first episode they share together.

Also, reducing Azula's relationship to Ty Lee as "being dismissive of her feelings twice in the beach" ignores pretty much every other interaction they have, but I'm not going to list them all. I will say, though, that this take is ignoring that Azula and Ty Lee's whol dynamic in the show is built on Azula threatening harm to Ty Lee for trying to live her own life away from Azula. Ty Lee cannot say no to Azula and lives with the very real threat of what will happen if she does.

With Mai it's more subtle, because Mai is smart enough to realize that she'll be subjected to the same thing Ty Lee was. She doesn't try to say no, but then Azula decides to test her loyalty anyway by refusing the trade for her baby brother. Mai's not visibly frightened but you don't have to be for something to be abusive. The absence of Mai's ability to say no is enough. And we see what happens when Mai finally does say no when Zuko's life is on the line. We also saw how Azula treated Mai when they were children, because she didn't like that Mai had an interest in Zuko instead of all the attention being on Azula. Mai and Ty Lee are not allowed to be full human beings around Azula with their own lives and ambitions. It is laughable that anyone would try to claim Azula cares about Ty Lee's trauma in particular when her response to it is a sarcastic "here we go." I don't think this, in particular, gets talked about enough, how Azula loves Ty Lee when she's fawning after her and Mai when her hatred validates Azula's own, but has total disdain for them when it's not about her.

And no, there is no definition of abuse that says abusers can't change. They certainly can. It's extremely difficult, especially when the abuser benefits from abusing people and sees no need to change, and that's why you see a lot of literature that talks about how victims should not try to change the abuser or assume that they will. Because protecting yourself is more important. That's why it's not a victim's responsibility to change their abuser, but nobody said abusers can't change. The reason why Azula can't change is because she does not care and will not admit that she hurt others. Someone like that won't change because they don't see a need to, but people like that also know that they can use your desire to see them change against you. Abusers often promise to change, and some even may have true intentions of doing so, but true change is hard. And if it is a victim's responsibility to change their abuser, it also still allows the abuser access and control to the victim, which is the thing they need to continue being abusive. We see Azula do this when she realizes she took her cruelty a step too far with Ty Lee, for example. An abuser giving a half-assed apology because they realize they might lose the fawning adoration they crave from their victims is nothing new. And it is deeply disturbing that these people seem to genuinely not recognize, or want other people to not recognize, these things for the red flags they are.

Eros 5: How closely is their opinion of their own beauty (or lack thereof) linked to their confidence? Do they see themselves as more or less worthy of love or sex based on how attractive they feel?

HMM... I think Luthais is a little funny about this. he's not an overtly self conscious person and doesn't believe himself to be unattractive, per se, but he also definitely doesn't think he's like. anything special to look at either

to that end, I don't think he puts a lot of stock into his appearance. he cares about it, absolutely, and has his preferences for what type of clothing he wears or how he wears his hair and whatnot, but it's largely all about function and convenience. I think his upbringing instilled in him that pretty things are usually shallow and fragile and fleeting. so the last thing he wants to see himself as is a pretty thing

whether he's worthy of love is an entirely separate question to him. he has more pressing things wrong with him than what he looks like 😂😭

Storge 4: Does your OC have any siblings? If so then did their parents have a favourite growing up? Has their relationship with their sibling changed in adulthood? If they don’t have any siblings then do they perhaps feel they have missed out on an important relationship? Do they have any especially close friends who go some way towards filling that role?

Luthais is the middle child between two half siblings, an older brother named Merynth and a younger sister named Elsa!

they all share the same mother, and Luthais in particular is the bastard child of an archbaron from Cheliax. his sister is also thought to be the daughter of the archbaron (she isn't, her father was another servant in the household) and his brother was born before their mother ever came to work for the archbaron at all.

but!! there really were no favorites between them, at least where Luthais' father was concerned. he hated them all equally 😭 maybe Merynth and Luthais a little more whereas Elsa was mostly ignored. none of them had the freedom to spend much time with their mother, but she loved them all 💔💔

Luthais had a very... let's say contentious relationship with Merynth on account of the kind of person Merynth was. he was a bully who enjoyed cruelty for cruelty's sake, but his ONE soft spot was for his mother and his siblings. sometimes. 90% of the time he was just an asshole 🥴 but they still had a very deep bond! Merynth died because of that bond - he was protecting Luthais from his father, and that still eats him up inside all the time lol

Luthais was also very very close to and protective of his sister. after Luthais fled Cheliax they kept in contact through letters, aaall the way up until his wife's murder and the subsequent blowing up of the town they lived in. and he hasn't written Elsa since </3

in a lot of ways, Ember reminds him of her so he feels that same sort of protectiveness. 🥹 he kinda fails spectacularly at being an ideal figure in that role, but y'know. he tries!

Agape 3: To what extent does your OC believe in the value (or even existence) of true altruism? Do they see an unselfish concern for the welfare of others as being naïve or foolish? Or as a moral quality to which people should aspire?

he's so deeply, deeply jaded about this... :(

he's the kind of person who believes that everyone is selfish by nature. full stop. "selfless compassion" is just a nice facade for "I'm helping you because it makes me feel good" and while that's sometimes necessary and usually an overall net good anyway, anyone who deludes themselves otherwise is, yeah, being naive

but this is coming from the guy who plays 4D mind chess about every choice he makes and rarely goes out of his way to do things that he doesn't get anything out of, so. maybe not surprising? 😭

Pragma 2: What is the biggest challenge that your OC has had to overcome in a long-term relationship or friendship? What helped them get through this?

this is such a hard question to answer because the biggest challenges in any relationship Luthais has had has usually ended up with someone dead 💀

in general he's a problem solver with everything in his life whether it's supply chain issues in his crusade or interpersonal issues with his lovers. he's also heavily ride-or-die. this is an interesting and sometimes catastrophic combination

Daeran's entire. just. everything. is probably the best example of it. it would have been safer and healthier for everyone involved if they didn't fall down the toxic-wholesome-chimera yaoi hole, but they did, because Luthais will NOT quit. ever. even if his boyfriend is possessed by a spooky eldritch fart cloud that could pop out and wreak havoc at any moment. even if it could kill him (and it did!) (by his own design though, not the eldritch fart cloud's, but still.)

Luthais can and will overcome anything for the people he loves by sheer force of will. but at what cost to himself and the people around him is the question...

Q1: "Have you seen that the wiki/this streamer/etc. says this character's name is [X]?" / "Why don't you call [X] by their name?"

A1: To help avoid confusion (and save me from potentially needing to repeatedly rewrite and retag posts), this blog only considers a character's name confirmed when it has been spoken aloud.

Japanese names can often be read in multiple ways, and while usually fan guesses have been more or less correct, they aren't always, and it can cause problems when the wrong name catches on. For this reason, characters will be referred to by codename only, or a nickname if they're not a teammate, until their name is confirmed, though info posts specifically may mention a likely reading of their name as well.

Q2: "Which region version are you playing?"

A2: The Hong Kong/Taiwan/Macau one! This does mean my updates are about a week behind the mainland one, though, so I may not always be able to post info on updates immediately.

Q3: "Who are your favorite characters?"

A3: Overall, my favorites are Tomoko and Kiyoshi! Right now Motoha is specifically my favorite story teammate, and Riko is my favorite navigator. My favorite thief designs are Moko, Key, Rin, Yuki, and Bui, and my favorite Persona designs are Awilda, Leucothea, Prosymna, Nemertes, Gorgyra, and Calliope.

On that note, my favorite P5 characters are Akechi and Sumire, heh! I also really like Ann and Yusuke.

Q4: "Do you play other gacha games?" / "Are you familiar with [X] gacha mechanic?"

A4: Haha, nope! I actually hate gacha systems, refuse to play any other gacha games, and am only putting up with this one because I'm otherwise very curious about the game and enjoy the characters. The gacha's still driving me crazy, though. I hate having to worry about getting a character before their banner ends, especially since I refuse to spend any money on the game.

That said, I do have friends who play gacha games, so I sometimes ask them about game mechanics if I'm not familiar with them. I also do at least pay attention to how people describe this game in relation to other gacha games, with the hopes of more thoroughly understanding the things I'm explaining here.

Q5: "Do you think the P5 Collab will be updated at the same time as the story?"/ "Do you think this P5 character will be added with the next update?"

A5: The game developers have said that the game updates will follow a loose pattern of: story update -> event update -> gameplay update. Story updates include things like new Palaces and story teammates (for instance, when Miyazawa's Palace and Soy were added in Version 1.1), whereas so far event updates have mostly added new parts of the P5 Collab (for instance, the Museum Chapter and Yusuke were added in Version 1.3.1, and the Bank Chapter and Makoto were added in Version 1.3.3), with the exception of the summer event (Versions 2.1.1 and 2.1.2). Gameplay updates add onto side quests, Confidants, plus other existing content, and generally include gameplay fixes.

For this reason, it seems very unlikely that a new part of the P5 Collab will be added at the same time as a new part of story, and this also goes for adding P5 characters and story teammates. I may be proven wrong in the future, but I'm just going off of what the devs have said so far; I'd expect a new story teammate with a story update, while event updates and gameplay updates have only ever added new Phantom Idols.

Q6: "Is there somewhere I can download this character 3D model you posted about/another model I've been looking for?"

A6: Yes, send me a message off anon (so I can reply privately) and I'll send you a link to a zip folder with whatever you need! The only reason I don't post the folder publicly is because I only update the folder when someone's asking for it, and not everyone wants all the same models, so this way I don't have to send them a massive folder for just one thing.

Q6.5: "What about this particular outfit for Wonder? Can you post screenshots of the model/send it to me?"

A6.5: Unfortunately, those are just named with numbers in the files (either wonder_normal_01, 02, etc. or wonder_autumn_01, 02, etc. for pajamas), which makes them a lot more trouble to dig up! If you ask during the update that added them to the files- I'll always post the icon for the outfit set- that makes it a lot easier, so I may be able to get it for you, but otherwise the answer's usually going to be no. I'm sorry for the inconvenience!

I can usually get screenshots of the outfit in-game, so that's an alternative option, but there are some cases where the outfit hasn't been added to the game yet. Feel free to ask, though! Just check out the tag for wonder outfits first to make sure I haven't already posted it.

Q7: "How do you datamine P5X? I want to try it myself!"

A7: I explained my process here, though feel free to ask any follow-up questions about it if you have them, and I'll do my best to help! I actually learned everything I know about datamining just for this game, so I try to make the tools and steps as accessible as possible for anyone else who's interested, heh.

And if you ever happen to spot anything I missed in the files, please, send it my way! I'm just one person, I sometimes miss a thing or two. The more people looking, the better!

Q8: "Do you have a list of all the combat roles? I see they're individually explained on the character info posts, but I was hoping to read all of them in one list!"

A8: Say no more, here you go:

Resist: good at targeting single enemies (Wonder (Janosik), Fleuret, Mont, Bui, Sepia, Messa, Skull, Queen). This tends to manifest as followup attacks that hit one target, or status effects/damage buffs that apply against specific targets.

Control: good at dealing with groups of enemies (Closer, Summer Motoha, Joker, Panther, Fox, Noir). This tends to manifest as lots of multi-target attacks, and bonuses for using those attacks in certain ways.

Surrender: focused around applying debuffs to gain an advantage (Key, Rin, Vino). This tends to manifest as a focus on a particular status effect, and the ability to do extra damage/effects to enemies once they're inflicted with it.

Rescue: focuses on healing companions (Cattle, Summer Tomoko, Marian, Mona). This has so far always included at least one healing skill, but often other healing abilities can be triggered as well.

Superior: good at buffing teammates and improving their effectiveness (Moko, Leon, Riddle, Chord). This has so far always manifested as unique buffs/status effects, sometimes becoming fully triggered by additional conditions.

Defense: good at protecting teammates and keeping them alive (Soy, Yuki, Cherish). This tends to manifest as shield-focused abilities, but Soy instead draws fire to himself, and buffs the team's max health temporarily.

Elucidation: the designation used for navigators (Wind, Okyann, Puppet, Phoebe, Oracle). This obviously has a wide array of specific applications, but tends to revolve around unique buffs or debuffs that the navigator can grant/inflict, and obviously each navigator has their own fights/team compositions they're most suited for.

HELP

ok, so little rant here. Please offer advice if you have any, I just am really confused. So, I've been struggling with my sexuality... I'm pretty sure I'm aromantic, and maybe bisexual. But I'm completely totally not sure. Starting from the beginning, I've only dated one person before, a guy I had really liked when I was 13. He liked me too, and we ended up getting together. Listen, I was low-key obsessed with him when I had a crush on him. But as soon as he asked me out and wanted to be near me and hang out non-platonically, I lost all feelings. So, after about a week, we broke up mutually, and the relief I felt was immense. Fast forward to now, I'm 14 and I moved to a new school this year, out of the district of most of my other friends from middle school. So, starting a new high school, as an extrovert and social person, and as someone who makes friends pretty easily, I found a new small friend group that I mainly hang out with, and we go to each other's houses and stuff. I would say we're all really close, even if it's generally new friendships (a little over 3 months). We're all very touchy with each other, and tell each other basically everything. I feel so lucky to have all four of them as my friends... But also so guilty and disgusted with myself. To make this easier, I'm calling them by their initials. So my little bestie group consists of four other girls: MS, KD, A, and B. I love all of them, but recently have been feeling different about KD... I still don't really know what, but I feel myself wanting to be closer to her all the time. Do I like her? I don't even know... It's too early for me to figure it out. I think I'm aromantic, and I was never really that interested in romantic relationships, so this is kind of new to me and hard for me to sort out. But I also don't know if KD is confused. I'm probably overthinking it. But I just noticed little things... Things that I feel too, but I can't tell if she notices. Like when we're all walking together, we kind of all hold hands together or link arms. I usually do this with KD, but also often with A and MS. But lately I've been noticing that whenever I'm next to A or MS, KD comes up behind me and puts a hand on my shoulder or taps my arm until I grab her hand. And keep in mind, she doesn't really seem like the touchy type when around most people, even our close friends. So I dont know; I've noticed a bunch more little things like this, just things like how she always stands or sits by me, and she always seems touchy with me more than the others. Idk bro; its probably all in my head. (Also as an afterthought, I'm the new addition to the group; MS and KD have known each other and been close close friends for a long time. Same with the others, B and A. They've all gone to the same elementary and middle school, whereas I've only met them this year. So it just makes it all more confusing) IF YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE OR THOUGHTS, OR JUST WANT TO KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO ME, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT... I NEED HELP 😭✊😔🙏

okay i'm gonna answer this now because i think enough time has passed lol

okay, so you're talking about the character trailers? yes? here is a very simple reason. the movies are their own separate production. they do not have all the rights of the imagery of the games. if you actually go through every single character trailer, it is mostly from the movies or the show infinite darkness. whereas chris and jill have still images or some blurry shots of the games.

leon is the only one with a wider variety of shots, infinite darkness, damnation, vendetta, AND re6- which damnation has the rights to as damnation had re6 footage as the background imagery for the credits of damnation. (and since damnation and vendetta are the "same" production team, they had their own footage to pull from)

also lmao i blocked that account. not sure why, too lazy to figure out why.

sometimes i think we read into things too much.

yes, i guess they could've used her clip of ada falling in re2r (like they did for leon's intro in re4r), but they probably didn't have the rights to that. and if they used damnation ada, that might have been confusing.

for jill, i dunno they had a weird collection of clips/images

for claire, it's weird that they used that weird fan service clip that literally nobody asked for except for Stephanie Panisello. they could've used other clips to show that claire is "badass" but tbh i haven't been a fan of claire's characterization as of late

totk rant anon here again! i sent an ask yesterday but it might not have gone through? or you just might not have gotten around to it yet. in case you didn't get it at all, the most important info i wanted to convey is that if you do the windblight fight in air and lightning with any character other than link you get a very interesting line from revali at the end which i feel provides important context for the following cutscene! and if you want i can let you know exactly what he says so you don't have to play through that mission again.

now, on a slightly different note, i'm a bit late in saying this, but i believe you can actually progress relentless as a waterfall even if you have mipha on your team? you just have to take her over to the relevant captain and use her healing powers yourself (either by using her special move or, if you don't have that charged, using her water spout move.) alternately you miiight be able to order her to go there while switched to a different character and that might work too?

to be entirely honest it's been a while since i played through that particular mission so i might be wrong, but i think that generally when missions have requirements for specific characters to do certain things (i.e. move to a specific location) if you have that character on your team you have to do all the work yourself to progress the mission, whereas if they're an npc they'll move on their own. that being said, mipha being a healer makes it a bit more complicated than most instances of this, since she's also required to use her healing powers here, while with most characters all you need to do is move them to the right location.

jesus christ revali. i have to admit i have seen this quote in another post in his tag before but a lot of the replies were saying that this was in regards to teba??? so i didn't think much of it at the time. but like. learning now that he ONLY says this when you don't play as link makes it obvious that this isn't about teba at all??? insane.

and you're right about it giving additional context to the scene right after. like revali's very abrasive backhanded thanks to link seems to me like it's stemming from embarrassment at being saved by someone he wants to impress (not that he'll ever admit that). but link not being there allows revali an opportunity to say that he doesn't want to seem weak or vulnerable to him.

i'm gonna be honest totk is looking to be my least favourite of the trilogy rn so i'm not too bummed out by that sjbsjejdj. excited to get the aoc dlc though my autism desperately needs it

also in regards to relentless as a waterfall my issue was that my objective never changed from capturing the three outposts even after all of them were captured? i wouldn't have even known that mipha had to heal that captain if i hadn't seen a video of it. i may test what you said out though! not rn since i've had enough of that mission after doing it three times jshsjsosksk but of that is the case i wish the game was more clear on that because it was very confusing.

I NEED TO TALK ABOUT JELLYFISH OR ELSE I WILL EXPLODE SORRY

Ok so I'm a little silly for jellyfish names, and the Morbakka was a genus name I was interested in for a little while. I mean, it's so cute- haha.

It took a little bit of digging but I finally found the source of the name, yaay :), it's apparently short for "Moreton Bay Carybdeid" (its a bay near West Coast Queensland Australia).

Now, this is pretty cool, but there's still something unanswered for me:

The Japanese "Hikurage" (Morbakka virulenta) was discovered in 1910, almost a century before the jellyfish described in the article was described (which was in 2008) The Hikurage was originally described as Tamoya virulenta, so what happened? Why'd it change, and why was it moved into this presumably new genus

Sidenote: There are only two species in the Morbakka genus- M. virulenta and M. fenneri. I'm going to assume Morbakka was made for M. fenneri, so uh. Yeah I'm only a little confused

To answer this question, I decided to go to the M. fenneri's paper where it was originally described, which I'll link here.

It's a bit hard to read, but this is the paragraph that's the most related to my questions, haha. I'll write it out what stood out to me below:

"Tamoya haplonema (also sometimes locally called Tamoya virulenta)" - I don't actually know when the M. virulenta's name was changed- my best guess is in 2012, judging from its WoRMS page, but it's possible that it could be a lot earlier :(. Anyways, this just might be a misnomer given to the poor jellyfish from local residents (as many jellyfish names are *cough cough* Cephea cephea). The T. haplonema and T. virulenta are two completely different species, even before M. virulenta was T. virulenta.

"No member of the Irukandji group, including Morbakka, possesses gastric phacellae" - Gastric phacellae basically refer to nematocyst warts on the inside of the stomach, and I can attest to that I've seen it all over the M. virulenta page. Scientists are like "Look at this scrub, it doesn't have any venom protecting its stomach what a loser." It's probably the main separator of the Morbakka and Tamoya genus lol (Well, that and they're in totally different families haha)

"Tamoya has lateral eye spots, whereas Morbakka does not;" - I'm gonna be honest I don't know what a lateral eye spot is, but going off of context clues, "Lateral" means the left or right side. That's all I got tho. Does this mean Tamoya has more eyes than Morbakka?

"Morbakka, like other species in the Irukanji group (i.e., Carukia, Malo, Gerongia), has pronounced rhopaliar horns, whereas they are absent in Tamoya" - Ha, this is cool, she's talking about Rhopaliar horns. Scientists don't know what Rhopaliar horns are, but I'm guessing these things are like stalks coming out of Box Jelly eyes. Here's a collection of them, courtesy of the paper "An illustrated key and synopsis of the families and genera of carybdeid box jellyfishes (Cnidaria: Cubozoa: Carybdeida), with emphasis on the “Irukandji family” (Carukiidae)"

Week ending: 23rd October

Sometimes the charts confuse me. This is one such week. What happened to bring this rather nondescript song into the public eye? I can only imagine this is a bit of a hangover from Volare - people were just feeling the Italian vibe, I guess?

Come Prima - Marino Marini (peaked at Number 2)

It's a big Italian ballad, sung in the same sort of ballad style as Volare. And indeed, Marino Marini (not a stage name, his actual birth name, it seems!) did do a cover of Volare, so there is a bit of a link. Still, whereas Volare is all sweeping, catchy dreaminess and surrealism, this ballad, in comparison, is just kind of... fine. It's slow, melodically predictable and lyrically kind of bland, swelling just enough to feel rousing at the end, but not much more than that. There's even a key change that fails to make this song more exciting, which is almost an achievement in dullness.

I don't think the recording I'm listened to is particularly helped by its poor audio quality, or the choice of backing instruments, as Marino is accompanied by a rather twangy-sounding guitar right at the start, a slightly fuzzy-souding piano, and whatever the heck it is playing the solo in the middle. The latter is particularly mystifying to me, because it sounds like nothing less than a particularly unconvincing MIDI harmonica, as played through a 1950s sound system. Which cannot have been the case, but search me if I can work out exactly what I'm listening to. It's not the most robust or the most romantic sound, sadly.

The song wasn't a Marino Marini original, but rather a cover of a ballad originally written by one Mario Panzeri, and subsequently covered in a whole bunch of languages, as seems to frequently be the case with these mid-century European hits. It's kind of cool, honestly - nowadays, you don't get much representation from other European languages in the UK charts, aside from one or two tracks that scrape in off Eurovision (Zitti e buoni, looking at you!) And yet this song seems to have been released in Italian, French, English, Dutch and (rather improbably) Japanese. And all of that despite the fact that it was submitted for the Sanremo festival and rejected, initially.

Lyrically, there's not much going on. It's romantic enough, but in a rather bland way: As before, / More than before, / I will love you, / For life, / My life / I will give to you. It sounds a fair sight better in Italian, as most things do, but still. Not much going on here. But then again, I guess that's kind of the point with foreign-language songs. You don't listen to really understand the lyrics (or listeners who aren't weird about languages like I am don't, in any case). They're songs you put on purely for the vibes, and "romantic Italian ballad" is clearly a good enough vibe to sell to a British public already warmed up by Domenico Modugno's recent Eurovision success.

I'm coming round on this song, the more I listen to it. I still don't think it's Number 2 material, but there you go. It's pretty relaxing, and would be pleasant background music, I guess. Though whatever instrument's playing that solo really is unpleasant.

I’m not the OP whom sent this ask about said actress but do you personally block people whom chose to use Hunter cause of your OWN views? Cause yes, we have freedom to all pick and choose who we like and dislike, but because you personally dislike her, why did you suggest her? You let people do what they want but when they don’t do something that’s morally right or liked by only you, you probably block them. It seems like you chose the one good thing she’s done to trump a bad thing she’s done. Hence why I think OP was asking about all gif packs and said you’re a contradiction.

Also, do you block people if they don’t repost real life issues on their rp blog but have a link to their personal, in which they do constantly post about freeing Palestine? I just don’t want to seem like a bad person for separating the two. It just seems like a topic like Covid where nobody should write about it in an rp setting. There are certain things you shouldn’t write because it’s triggering. I don’t mean in a sense or staying quiet— as one shouldn’t, but in the world of rp-ing.

Honestly this ask confuses me but I hope this answered some questions! I don't block people for using her I don't know where you got this assumption or question from. I suggested her because, like I said, some of my non-binary friends have no problem with after she clarified whereas me, another non-binary, still don't know what to think like i said in the original FC ask which you can find HERE.

Also I'm not asking people to write about genocide! I'm asking people to raise awareness because it's often a privileged take that can separate roleplaying and "real life." I also don't think that should be a thing to separate the two but that's another topic entirely. There are people behind roleplay blogs and I'm sure if an issue affected you, you'd want people to post about it and get aid if needed.

People are also allowed to block who they like and that includes me! If you believe it's a mistake then please let me know but the likelihood is that I blocked them for another reason. <3

Okay, so I just started wondering about the Greek architecture myself, and I had a few questions for people more experienced than me on this subject (it's more about the IRL history comparisons than the architecture, but bear with me, I promise it's related).

My big hangup here is that Pokemon always at least tries to reference real-world history in games since Generation V - Parfum Palace being Versailles (with King Louis XVI depicted to match) and the Area Zero Expedition being based on the Pacific Scientific Commission are both great examples of this. However, Legends seems to present an odd step away from this, and I'm unsure whether it's a failed attempt at doubling down on a continuity error, a recognizable presentation to Western audiences, or what.

Essentially, the question I'm asking is - why are there Greek ruins in Hisui? The question has multiple answers, but none of them are exactly compelling. The Celestica are obviously a stand-in for the Ainu (occupying the same locations and having a somewhat-similar, but greatly toned-down history with the Matsumae Diamond and Pearl clans).

The first (and most racist) is the Caucasian Ainu Theory. First purported in the 1800's, it held that the Ainu were of Caucasian (Indo-European) descent due to a similar agricultural lifestyle, long lifespans, and pale skin. This fell out of favor by the 1950's, as genetic comparisons revealed that they had very little in common with Europeans beyond the basic morphological similarities afforded by living in colder, northern climates - blond or brown (or red) hair, pale skin, blue or gray eyes, etc. This likely inspired the typical derogatory insult towards Ainu by mainland Japanese of 'hairy foreigner' (later 'hairy Ainu').

From there, various genetic studies attempted to link them to various cultures - South American, Greek, Turkish, Micronesian, all with little success. Note the presence of Micronesian and Greek links in this - this is my best guess as to why the Celestica are being considered 'Greek,' as the only studies cited on Wikipedia discussing otherwise were first published in 2008 (the specific haplogroup was discovered in 2004, but it's unclear how much they knew about its ancestral roots at that point), whereas Diamond and Pearl were released in 2006.

The Micronesian inclusion is also somewhat significant, as I think it might be related to the Alph culture (which seems to have had presence in the semi-Micronesian area, judging by the Tanoby Ruins, and migrated north to meet up with the Celestica and build the Temple of Sinjoh, possibly suggesting they were on a more general northward migratory path that allowed them to build the Ruins of Alph along the way). This may also be inspired by the Woleai script, which contained several Unown- and Latin-like characters, but the only known record of these was after missionary Alfred Snelling attempted to teach the Woleaians English in 1905 - one year after a fellow missionary recorded these English-like letters in their syllabary, the island was conquered by the Japanese in 1914, which may have led to some historical confusion, as the script was supposedly in development since around 200 AD. Regardless, the Solaceon Ruins seem to have been built by someone who knew of the Unown just as much as the Alph civilization did, suggesting they eventually traveled far enough northward to end up in Hisui, possibly intermingling with the remaining Celestica.

Regardless, genetic studies eventually concluded between 2008-2014 that the Ainu were most genetically linked with paleo-Siberian Arctic peoples like the Chukchi.

The second theory has to do with the well-known Japanese domestic tourism destination, Shōdoshima. The island uses many Greek architectural styles in its construction (even in Shinto shrines), and this may have inspired Game Freak circa 2003-2006 to include such a theme in Sinnoh, given its many Shinto inspirations. This, of course, has no real-world historical parallels, but is close enough to the mark that I thought it merited mentioning.

The last is quite simply an appeal to Western audiences - they needed to let the players know that the Celestica were an ancient civilization, and no civilization screams 'ancient' more than that of ancient Greece to the Western audience. Thus, despite the complete lack of historical analogue, they made the Celestica Greek. This also has its roots in the anime, or more specifically the movies - Arceus' debut movie, Arceus and the Jewel of Life (2009), was set in a location very heavily inspired by Meteora, Greece, with the movie's executive staff even visiting this location for additional inspirations. This Greek theming seems intentional from the very start...

And yet it's still unclear just why.

Also, is anyone going to talk about Old Verse 20 implying that the Celestica (or at least the author of the Old Verses, who I strongly suspect to be Cogita herself) knowing about Necrozma? Yes, it could be Arceus, but the comparisons are just too strong to ignore ('starved of light,' 'shone upon us all,' etc.)

Giratina's Temple and the Celestica Ruins

aka Giratina/platinum clan theory is back (also sorry for using mspaint lmao)

So we all know about the Shrouded Ruins, yeah?

(This is the only spoiler warning for Pokemon Legends: Arceus you're gonna get)

Spooky. Ever-cloaked in mists and mystery, surrounded by black-stoned cairns like graves and home to the giant Odd Keystone that once (?) housed 108 souls. Very ghost-centric.

Well what if I told you it was a temple?

Greco-roman temples (and, problematic or otherwise the celestica are absolutely greco-roman coded) are constructed relatively uniformly, with an outer later of columns holding up the roof and an inner layer holding up an internal structure, providing additional support, ect.

We have a perfect in-game model to project from, too, in the Temple of Sinnoh (pre-explosion). You can see that some of the smaller columns are sometimes decorative - likely they held up torches or, in the case of the two nearest the 'altar,' offerings

So knowing that style and having the remaining structures we do see in-game, we can approximate a lay out of what the building may have looked like.

What makes this a temple, however, is more open to interpretation. My evidence to support that it is is actually the blue-tinged pedestals seen within the outline of the building - the place(s) of honor in any temple. Irl, the inner structure - the cella - was often fully-walled in, though sometimes this was constructed via wood and other materials that don't withstand time.

Now, ENORMOUS shout-out to pokemaniacchris and the incredible Crimson Mirelands Archeological Survey Project for a really detailed, in-character breakdown of the ruins structures throughout the mirelands. I can only assume the 'surveyors' hadn't reached Mt. Coronet yet in their explorations.

Pedestals like these (at least superficially similar) are found beneath dozens of statues around Mt. Coronet, including beneath Giratina, Palkia and Dialga in the Sacred Plaza area. Now, I know I'm supposed to be claiming that this is a temple to Giratina, but if we work on the assumption that the four pedestals corollate with Giratina, Palkia, Dialga, and Arceus, a new conclusion can, perhaps, be drawn:

That whoever built this temple saw all four of them on the same 'level' of power or -- and this is my hc taking over -- if the statues were placed in a certain orientation (see below) that they saw Arceus and Giratina on equal footing, with Dialga and Palkia one rank below.

And there is, imo, more evidence to support this disruption of the 'creation trio' into two pairs on equal footing, found in the Celestica Ruins! So, among the structures there are two notable, circular buildings that the Greeks also utilized, called tholoi (plural). Irl, tholoi were a mix of secular-use and small-scale temples, and seeing as these two are small (maybe 10ft across inside?) I would maintain the claim that they're small temples.

And they align/mirror each other just as the statues of Palkia and Dialga do.

This part becomes pure conjecture, but I like to think the smaller structures in the ruins might be other small-scale temples for the various mythicals, honoring each much as the Greeks honored a pantheon.

Lastly, the CMASP describes the "Gapejaw Bog Complex" as being potentially an entire agora all its own and I can't agree more. Such evidence would support the idea of there being two groups of Celestica (Note: Not the Clans.)

I actually found myself wondering if the mirelands weren't always quite so swampy, and instead flooded at some point in the past with the depressions around Gapejaw - left by housing foundations - filled in with swamp water.

At the end of the day, I think there's a lot of evidence that the Celestica revered Giratina as well as Arceus, Dialga and Palkia - at least early on. Something happened to cause this schism, and the Old Verses/Plate inscriptions point to an outburst of rage from Giratina -- though, in "pick a god (and pray)" I actually argue it was mispercieved on the part of the Celestica and this misperception is what caused Arceus to despair and withdraw.

what are your opinions on the shouto-hawks relationship/dynamic?

I had a post a couple months ago on some interesting interactions between them. There's also this post where I talk about this back in 2020, and I guess I can put both together now.

Current Relationship:

So there's not much of a relationship even if it's interesting the way Shouto is drawn looking at Hawks.

I think Shouto might find him cool; he does say "he's only six years older than us." when Keigo flies off. Keigo has mentioned being interested in Shouto (before he screwed up his exam) but that could have been a way to rile up Enji.

Back to recent chapters we had this interaction - I think Hawks has a bit of strange familiarity with Shouto that he hasn't shown the other kids, yet. This comes off as very protective, weirdly enough, but we can get to why I think Hawks does this in a bit.

Clearly Shouto's a little confused why Hawks is all in his personal space, while Keigo calls him a class act for even considering to forgive or forge a relationship with his abusers (Hawks never got the chance and is clearly mixed on whether he would consider it).

To be blunt, I think Shouto might have just a more positive but distant opinion whereas Hawks is fairly interested in Shouto as a person. It likely comes down to Endeavor, and we might need to look at this very, uh, weird part in the novels that I linked earlier.

I still stand by my earlier characterization of Hawks as caught up in a fantasy of a parasocial relationship with Endeavor. Here's what I wrote in March 2020:

That there’s a lot pointing to Hawks’s…honestly maybe unhealthy idolization of Endeavor being connected to wanting a father figure. It’s really, really likely the Takami Thief Ending was talking about was Hawks’s parent (probably a dad), and the kind of…masculine admiration Hawks shows towards him makes me wonder if somehow throughout the fallout of a father being defeated by Endeavor, Hawks started wishing Endeavor was his real father. Maybe there was enough issues with his real father than he would have preferred the man who took him away...Part of me wonders if Hawks isn’t privately, in the depths of his mind, constructing a fantasy where it’s just that - he can be Endeavor’s child, and have a family, siblings (just like Shouto, the only Todoroki child he’s met). It’s a little bizarre but if we’re honest about it, so is Hawks’s behavior to Shouto throughout the main manga, the spin off, and the light novel, now.

I wrote this paragraph before we saw Hawks's background in January/February 2021. Looking back, I'm far more convinced I was on the mark with this especially when Horikoshi introduced an element of Fantasy vs Reality when it comes to Hawks's narrative.

This, even more so than saving the people he did, I think is the most significant moment in Hawks's life. Look at the way this frames Endeavor - a mere fantasy came to life and saved Keigo from being like his family. Keigo who was beaten for going outside, who had to sneak outside with his mother if he was to go outside, spent the first few years of his life completely unsocialized and removed from society besides his parents, their collapsing hovel of a home, and a TV screen. Keigo's so removed from the Hero system and society that he thought it was merely a show until Endeavor changed his life.

Keigo's complete lack of socialization as a kid, and subsequent institutionalization by a government organization that wanted to make him a child soldier really solidifies that Hawks wasn't really raised with 'people', or in any normal family dynamic. His entire concept of that would be observing people, first through media like TV shows, and now in the glimpses he gets as a hero.

Make no mistake, Hawks has a very weird overt familiarity with Shouto from the start, compared to other kids. Heck, he even does it with Touya, calling the man who burnt his wings 'Touya-kun' around the Todorokis, completely unmockingly, despite Touya being his elder by around a year, and their prior "working" relationship.

It's childish, just as Tokoyami notes, and a clear sign that Hawks has some issues of stunted emotional maturity when it comes to this, and lots of unworked trauma.

And yet despite this, he has a moment where he's clearly protective over Shouto, asking if it's Endeavor's fault Shouto has a big scar over his eye. Despite Hawks being eager to say Endeavor's changed, he's also an abuse survivor and can't ignore such an obvious sign of abuse. He needed reassurance to keep the fantasy alive.

A lot of what I think characterizes the Shouto-Hawks dynamic from merely "Young Hero trainee who thinks this Hero is cool," is on Keigo's projection towards Shouto. He's an Endeavor stan, for a very justifiable reason given the complete lack of socialization he received as a child and the abuse he went through; Shouto is a "window" to a life the little boy inside of Keigo dreamt of, even if he doesn't discuss it much as an adult. It's all small details that don't make sense unless you remember at some point he didn't think Heroes were real until Endeavor made it real.

In Hawks's mind there's an association with Endeavor making dreams come true; whose to say he didn't wish for better parents, traded out one angry red-haired man for the red-haired man who saved him, unaware that his own life was similar to Endeavor's children in so many ways? His curiosity and familiarity with Shouto stems from that sort of projection-fantasy.

Watching her favorite boys play around on the seashore, Y/N chuckled softly as she returned her gaze on the fruit in front of her. Picking up a small knife, she carefully began peeling some of the mangoes, apples and other of the juicy produce they had brought with them. Meanwhile she focused on making sure they had something to replenish their energy with, one of her lovers was concentrated on building a rather complicated architecture with the sand under his feet. Slowly but surely, the castle was beginning to take form and the man couldn't be much happier or pleased than seeing his masterpiece come to life.

"Mingi, think fast!" The other tall male shouted as he tossed the beach ball he was holding in the other's direction.

Mingi's naturally small eyes widened significantly as he witnessed his creation crumble down due to the impact of the beach ball colliding on top of it.

"Oops! Sorry bud!" The culprit grimaced as he saw the result of his little trick.

Immediately standing up, Mingi began chasing after his friend.

"I'm going to kill you Yunho!" He threatened, Yunho running and taking cover behind the oblivious girl who saw nothing that took place.

"What in the world?" She looked back and forth between the two guys.

Pointing an accusatory finger at him, Mingi let out a huff.

"He destroyed my sand castle that I was working so hard on!" He exclaimed.

"I didn't mean to." Yunho defended himself.

Not wanting them to get into a silly fight during their vacation, Y/N began to calm them both down.

"Come on you guys, you're making a scene over things kids would argue over. Seriously, this is why we hardly go out."

Hearing her displeased tone, the boys quickly straightened up their act and decided to just let it go. Seeing the delicious fruit in front of them, the young men sat at opposite sides of Y/N and dug into the food. She was grateful she opted for packing plenty of fruit given how much her boyfriends ate. She sometimes wondered if it was because they were so tall or because their stomachs were a bottomless pit. She decided a long time ago that it was probably a combination of the two.

As they enjoyed their snacks while enjoying the view in front of them, Y/N's wandering eyes soon locked themselves on the two women sitting not far from them. Although she wanted to look away before any negative thoughts clouded her mind, she couldn't help but admire their long, slim legs, their small waists and flat tummies. She envied their shape that they confidently showed off in their revealing and sensual bikinis, making more than a few heads turn in their direction to rake their eyes on their glamorous bodies. And there she was, feeling too big in her cami top and shorts.

Looking away with eyes falling on the strawberry she was holding, Y/N suddenly felt an uneasy feeling in her stomach. Losing her appetite, she tossed the fruit back in the container and just sat back, unable to hide her uncomfortable face which Yunho noticed right away.

"Honey, is something wrong? Do you not feel well?" He asked which immediately sparked the attention of the other male.

Although she didn't feel well indeed, Y/N didn't want to cause any alarm or have them fret over her behavior and decided to make up an excuse.

"I guess maybe I'm just exhausted after spending so much time out in the sun. I think I'm just going to go back to the hotel room. You guys stay here if you want."

Plastering on a reassuring smile, she gave them no chance to argue or say anything else as she quickly got off the beach towel and started heading back towards the hotel that was just in front of the beach. Her arms were crossed protectively in front of her chest, head lowered to avoid eye contact with the young men who were heading in the opposite direction. She shut her eyes when she heard them snicker behind her, no doubt making fun of her figure. She just wanted to lock herself in the room and crawl under the covers of the bed, just her alone with nobody else.

But the sudden calls for her from behind let her know that it wasn't going to be the case.

"Geez, couldn't you at least wait for us baby?" Mingi pouted as he linked an arm around her.

"Sorry, didn't want to cut your playtime at the beach short." She felt even more bad knowing they decided to follow her back.

"It's fine darling. It was getting too hot anyways. Besides we can have just as much fun in the hotel room as we do in the beach." Yunho added, leaning his face so he could whisper in her ear.

"Or maybe even more fun." He snickered suggestively, which made her blush and cling closer to the male on her right, who simply let out a small snort.

"Don't tease her Yunho. You know how shy she gets with these things." Unable to hold back from making her even more flustered, Mingi's hand that was on her waist dropping to slightly pinch her butt cheek.

"And it makes me want to eat her up even more."

With a soft huff, she shoved his hand away from him and simply walked faster to hide from their vulgar teasing that had her cheeks burning bright red.

"She's so adorable." Yunho chuckled, to which Mingi agreed with. Taking advantage of the fact she couldn't hear them, both of them started whispering a few things amongst themselves, huge grins plastering on their faces as they planned out how they were going to spend their night with their lovely girlfriend.

Staring at her reflection in the long body mirror, Y/N cringed at the sight. She knew the guys were waiting outside in the hot tub for her, no doubt aching to see her in the dark blue bikini they had picked out for her, a color Mingi aggressively shoved into Yunho who wanted to go instead for a more baby pink choice, but eventually caved into the other's choice. She didn't feel up to going out in it though, she felt it unflattering and unsuitable for someone her size. Stripping out of it, she tossed on a tank top and shorts once more, wanting to be as covered up as much as possible. Feeling satisfied with that, she quickly came out of the bathroom, not wanting to make the boys wait any longer.

Hearing the glass door of the room slide open, the young men excitedly looked over hoping to see their gorgeous girlfriend in a swimsuit they bought her, but their faces fell flat when they saw her clothing choice.
