I think the softest lesson Bad Buddy taught me was that love does not have to feel like a revolution. I don't need to scream my love on the rooftops or wave it in front of anybody's face. I can love sitting on my balcony, surrounded by candles, wearing my softest shirt and making eyes at the love of my life. My love does not have to be loud for it to be real.

A BAD BUDDY PARALLEL I MISSED – EVERY DING WILL HAVE ITS DONG

I'm currently following @‌impala124 and @‌troubled-mind on their respective journeys liveblogging as they watch BBS, and it's so much fun tracking newbies to Bad Buddy getting to know it for the first time: 🥰

(I'm not going to tag them in this post though, just in case my write-up below turns out to have spoilery reveals that mar their first watch. 😊)

So Bad Buddy (for me, at least) is one of the foundational, sacred texts of the BL experience (commenting on and righting the wrongs of BLs that had gone on before) and I hope it continues to inform every BL fan's journey. 🤩

Anyway, following the liveblogs highlighted a parallel that I'd missed, and it was so lovely to be surprised again when I had thought BBS could hold no more surprises… 😍

When Pat grabs a clean shirt from Pa's laundry delivery and tosses it to Pran at Ep.1 [3‌/4] 2.19, this is a little foreshadowing moment that gets its callback at Ep.4 [4/4] 10.51:

(top) Bad Buddy Ep.1 [3‌/4] 2.19 – Pat tosses a clean shirt to Pran after rescuing him from the Engine gang, saying "Take it"; (bottom) Bad Buddy Ep.4 [4/4] 10.51 – with another "Take it", Pran tosses his personally-scented Friend/Unfriend t-shirt to a shirtless Pat, after rescuing him from Keyless Night 2 out in the corridor

On one level you can read the second shirt toss as Pran diligently keeping score in their neverending rivalry – as in "You tossed me a shirt once, and now I'm returning you the favor so I don't owe you anything" (noting from Ep.2 [4/4] 10.22 that – in the constant back-and-forth ding-dong of their rivalry – any ding not donged back between the two means the competition is still in play, at least until Ep.7's Bet Era™ put a seeming end to their non-stop scorekeeping).

But on another level the exchange of shirts also shows the care and concern each has for the other, even while each act of kindness is cloaked with antagonism on the surface.

In Ep.4 Pran tosses Pat a shirt, ostensibly unwashed to show he doesn't care – but it doesn't hide the fact that he's gifting a grateful Pat with warmth, shelter and comfort (especially since Puppy Pat gets all horny for undiluted eau de Pran – eau de Pran faim? 🤣).

In Ep.1 Pat tosses Pran a shirt ostensibly because he doesn't want Dissaya to see evidence of a fight and blame him for it, while Pran stomps away all grinchy and ungrateful. But we now know that they were probably just following their ages-old playbook of acting out a bitter rivalry when in front of an audience (Pa in this case).

And Pat avoiding blame from Dissaya isn't the same as redeeming himself in her eyes (it wouldn't change a thing about her opinion of him), so his reasoning seems more like an excuse to help Pran out (and maybe save him from a scolding by Bad Buddy's Tiger Mom too). But I guess this should be obvious to all.

The idea of Pran putting on Pat's shirt in Ep.1, and Pat putting on Pran's shirt in Ep.4, also foreshadows Episode 8 when each tries to inhabit the other's perspective to see things from his faen's point-of-view in their newly-confirmed couplehood:

(above, left) Bad Buddy Ep.5 [1‌/4] 1.29; (above, right) Bad Buddy Ep.8 [1‌/4] 1.36 – in Ep.5's opening scene Pat wakes up and mistakes the smell of cooking for a fire, while it is Pran who does that in Ep.8 (although I don't think that's Pat's shirt he's wearing); still, when read together these two scenes signal that Ep.8 will be switching up the boys' perspectives

Also in Ep. 8, Pat ripping off the same Friend/Unfriend t-shirt after their backstage spat hits especially hard when we circle back to Ep.4 and see how he first put it on with such appreciative relish:

Remembering also PatPran's Ep.5 confrontation under the white arches at Ep.5 [1‌/4] 7.43 (which foreshadowed Ep.8's backstage argument over the same t-shirt) we can now see that BBS was diligently establishing how important wearing that t-shirt was to Pat, and how wrenching it must have been for him to doff it and lay himself bare in Ep.8. 😥

And then we see Pran pass the t-shirt back to Pat at their reconciliation behind the red curtain, calling back to their two shirt exchanges in Episodes 1 and 4:

(above) Bad Buddy Ep.8 [4/4] 6.29 – an apologetic Pran hands the Friend/Unfriend t‑shirt (together with a conciliatory bottle of water) back to Pat, reaching across the visual barriers of backstage scaffolding that seems to want to cage and separate them just like the constraining circumstances of their lives

In all of this, the ding-dong of shirts between the two boys is a metaphor for the constant back-and-forth competition between them, and also how each gives a bit of himself to the other during their journey to couplehood in Bad Buddy.

Ep.1's shirt toss is also an example of how so many little throwaway lines or narrative details in the early episodes will get their own parallels or callbacks later on.

A couple of examples:

Pa turning up in the family car with Pat's clean laundry plays into her early depiction as nothing more than a loser side character, existing only to further Pat's narrative with no agency of her own – until Director Aof and his writers switch out her portrayal later on, launching her on her own story arc and acing the Bechdel test in the process.

(above) Two views of Pa in a car (calling out to her Dr. Seuss t-shirt in the first? 🤣) – Ep.1 [3/4] 1.50 on the left during her Loser Era™, and Ep.7 [1/4] 2.43 on the right after her glow-up and promotion from stereotypical plot device to a fleshed-out character with (at least some) growth and development

The laundry itself is a launchpad for Pat's request at Ep.3 [3‌/4] 5.15 – "Do the laundry for me", which is a sign of his cluelessness at reading his innermost desires. There in Ep.3's music store he thinks he's liking the smell of clean laundry, when it's actually Pran's own personal scent that's giving him butterflies:

And of course Pat's request for Pran to do his laundry is a set-up that allows Pran the opportunity for some zingy comebacks later, at Ep.3 [3‌/4] 5.46 when he sarcastically says he's doing the laundry while sketching ideas for the bus-stop redesign, as well as Ep.9 [2/4] 4.16 when he says he's doing the laundry in response to Pat's question "Washing the dishes?" (itself an innuendo-laden remark – see the note on laang jaan buried within this write-up):

The exchange of shirts is just a nice little detail, not hugely significant, and yet it ties into the bigger picture with an astonishing consistency. Every time you hear a bell ring in BBS, you betcha there'll be a corresponding echo sometime later.

As it is with Pat and Pran, in Bad Buddy every ding will have its dong! 🤣

Bad Buddy Ep 5

My thoughts on Ep 1 | Ep 2 | Ep 3 | Ep 4

Well, @starryalpacasstuff, I understand why you were excited for me to get to this episode, because it was a lot. So, here we go:

Pat definitely isn't beating the puppy allegations with his propensity for sniffing everything.

Don't be a lying liar now, Pran; you think Pat's face is the epitome of cuteness. I know they are going to hurt me because they opened this episode with this domesticity.

Ok, I need 3 business days to process my feelings about Pran's doodles of their interactions. Pran, my beloved, is a top-tier yearner.

"There's nothing wrong with rewearing clothes." Pat is a sustainability king.

Ink, are you a PatPran shipper? If so, please join Pa, who is waiting for you in the corner with snacks.

Pat, tell me you didn't bring Ink to the place where you had your first date with Pran. You did? The betrayal! I guess I'll have to forgive you because you yourself weren't aware that you were on a date with Pran.

Pa's in the house, guys. Reason has entered the chat. I love that she encourages him to know if his feelings for Ink are genuine or not.

I hope we get to see more of Ink and Pa together, even if it's just them being friends.

Oh, this is interesting. Pat is subconsciously realizing that he sees Pran in a different light. What exactly? He doesn't know. I do feel bad for my confused son, though.

Pran saw Pat and Ink on their date at the mall. Why is the world conspiring against my boy to only cause him pain?

So, we're going the jealousy route now, aren't we?

Not Pat asking Pran if Wai ever spent the night in the dorm 💀💀. And Pran, totally unaware of Pat's emotional turmoil, answered that Wai in fact did sleep right where Pat did.

These flashbacks are killing me. Pran was really soft-launching a confession by saying that he wanted to compose a song that conveys the sense of 'born to be together.' AHHHHHHHH.

Something about Pat asking Pran if he would like him if Pran were Ink and Pa telling Pat that she would confess her feelings to Ink if she were Pat is making me wanna chew on glass.

Pran asking Pat if Ink is at the contest venue and saying that she should be there to support Pran😭😭😭😭.

NO. HE DID NOT. Pran, bestie, tell me you didn't belt out the song that you wrote with your high school 'friend' in a competition against him. You did! Is it petty? Maybe. Petty Pran is in the house and I AM LIVING. I support him 100 percent.

Ink, the woman that you are!!! "You don't seem to be afraid of heartbreak." She was spitting nothing but facts here. Now that Pat knows where he and Ink stand, I hope she remains being a great friend to him because my boy's a mess, and he can use all the help he can get while sorting out his romantic feelings for Pran. I don't think his friends are going to be of any help in this matter. He has Pa, but I think Ink can be more objective when it comes to Pran.

Pat is jealous that his 'friendship' with Pran is a secret.

Pat really went from saying, "I'm not your wife," to acting like a jilted wife in this episode.

Pran, the philosopher that you are. I have half a mind to write about his "Nothing means nothing" to Wai regarding his relationship with Pat.

I'm not really feeling Wai here, guys. Pran asked him to not interfere, but why did he still hit Pat? Thank God that Pran, haver of all brain cells, told him to go home.

Was it only in Ep 2 that Pat wanted to meet the person who was crushing on him on the rooftop? We sure came a long way from there.

Pat is very open about his feelings. He doesn't know why he is feeling what he is feeling, but he still is trying to explain them to Pran.

If we're not enemies, do you think we can be friends? Why? Do you want us to be friends? No.

Can I get this etched onto my soul? Please and thank you.

THE KISS. God, the emotional weight it carried!! Their reactions after they part from the kiss are very telling—Pat has a smile on his face, and Pran is crying and not with joy. After Pran leaves him alone on the rooftop, I think it dawned on Pat as to what all just happened.

Side note on jealousy vs. envy:

Jealousy: to get upset and angry because someone you love seems interested in another person. Envy: to wish that you had something that another person has.

Pat is jealous when he sees Pran and Wai together. Pran, on the other hand, was envious of the person who was on the receiving end of Pat's affections. Jealousy wasn't what Pran had experienced till now when it came to Pat, because he never imagined that he had a chance with him. This is where we see the differences in their personalities and the reason for Pran, with tears down his cheeks, leaving Pat behind on the rooftop after their kiss. Pran has made peace with the fact that he'll be a yearner forever where Pat is concerned. Pat, my beloved, is a bit impulsive and wants to throw caution to the wind and see where things land, unlike Pran, who is a planner and enjoys structure and order in his life. Just because Pran had feelings for Pat for all these years doesn't mean that he thought about how he would deal with them if they were reciprocated. Classic yearner mindset!!

Bad Buddy Ep 3

My thoughts on Ep 1 | Ep 2

Me, at the end of this episode:

WOW. So, Pat very nonchalantly cut up his student ID card to make the most handsome guitar pick for Pran. Pat is such a charmer.

Pat saying, "I'm your lucky charm," to Pran while Pran believes that he brings bad luck to Pat. Let me sit with this for a second.

When Pat, referring to himself, said that "A jinx can't be this hot," Pran makes a face that reads like, Well, you clearly haven't met yourself. Reiterating that Pat is a charmer. An oblivious one but a charmer nonetheless. The flirting—God, this is what is missing in the current shows. Get these writers into the writing room again ASAP!!!

Now, Pat really didn't need to stand like that (I don't know how to say it other than perpendicularly); he could've stood facing the door like everyone else in the elevator. Not my boy, though. Never change, Pat!!

Pat coming in clutch with the presentation. Okay, I see a pattern of Pran losing all hope in a situation and Pat coming in to save the day and not at all concerned with taking credit.

Pat kept Pran's guitar WITH HIM. He didn't know if they would ever cross paths again, but he still did.

Pran is worried about calling it even with Pat because he believes that he'll be forgotten and Pat will move on with his life.

Not Pran looking at the watch that he reset after Pat leaves him in the hallway after giving him back the guitar.

It's fascinating how Pat can't offer help to others directly. It's always under the pretense of something else.

Pat and Pran are both class presidents in their respective faculties, but that's where the similarities end:

Pat wanted that position and was chosen by his seniors. Pran was worried about juggling this responsibility with his coursework, but since his classmates chose him, he wants to do justice to the role.

Pran is a leader who leads from the front and feels responsible for his friends actions. When the professor asks those who weren't involved in the fight to leave, he stays behind, although he had nothing to do with this fight. He even helps them in procuring the required materials and goes as far as to ask Pa for help. Pat, my beloved, isn't that concerned about his friends actions, although he's the class president. Pat feels little to no sense of duty towards his friends as their leader and is only concerned about getting kicked out of the music competition because of their shenanigans.

Neither of them is wrong for reacting the way they did; it just highlights how different they are from each other (which can be a good thing).

Pat is very passive regarding everything that's happening around him. His inaction when Wai was getting bullied by his friends highlights this. I'm sure his dad has hammered into him that the only person he should please is him, the father, and others are dispensable. His friendships certainly feel that way.

Bad Buddy Ep 7

Happy to see that Pran had toned down his flirting, still thinking about him licking Pat's finger and probably would never stop thinking about it, and is back to his usual bantering with Pat.

Pat has a new car and a new boyfriend. You know what that means!! CAR MAKEOUT SESSIONS WITH BOYFRIEND!!!🤞

Pa is coming to university. Hopefully, we'll get to see more of her.

Me, when Pran's mom said that he can bring anyone home, boy or girl, as long as it isn't the boy next door:

Pran apparently has only two modes when it comes to flirting with Pat: snarky and horny. I'm sure Pat appreciates them equally.

Now, I've been a freshman and met many helpful seniors in college, but no one was holding my hand to escort me to a gathering on my first day. Anyway, Pa and Ink are interacting, guys!

Ok, Pa is sharing a dorm with Pat. I like the idea of it, but given that the (flirting) games are on, I don't want Pa to see anything she doesn't need to.

Pat's dad is again doing the most with his "Don't ruin my reputation." Sir, please. Just stop.

Pat looking at Pa's note from her peer mentor and saying that it's from a guy is funny because my boy is talking out of his ass here. Remember the time he looked at Pran's note and thought that a girl wrote it? Yeah, your track record isn't great when it comes to this sort of deduction, bestie.

Product placement interwoven into the plot—bring this back.

Pran's "I want you to do it for me" while asking Pat to change your printhead is just ASDGHGKYH.

Pat, expectedly, folded like a wet napkin. Pat is God's strongest soldier for resisting Pran's brand of flirting, is all I'm saying.

Ink, the badass that you are!! We got a head pat. Holding hands and head pats, I smell something in the air.

Not them holding hands in secret at the bus stop, which exists as proof of their coordination. Snack deliveries, my beloved!!!

I'm just here losing my mind visualizing Pat going to Pran's room with Nong Nao in hand for a sleepover. I wonder who even initiated the conversation, though. Was it Pat casually showing up at Pran's doorstep with Nong Nao in hand, or was it Pran inviting Pat for a sleepover and Pat showing up with Nong Nao in hand? I NEED TO KNOW. How dare they deprive me of this conversation??!!

Shirtless Pat makes an appearance again. The tickling!!!

PA ALMOST WALKED IN ON THEM. Remember when I said Pat rooming with Pa wasn't a good idea in practice? Yeah, this is what I was talking about. Not Pat saying that he's doing a side pack workout 😭😭😭.

Okay, Wai having a crush on Pa will be interesting for sure.

Ink is just not having it with Pat's extra attention!!

One thing I know for sure is that no one who bet against Pran has lived to tell the tale.

Pat, my lost puppy, is here to cheer up his cranky boyfriend. Even Pran can't resist that beautiful face!! The chemistry is electrifying.

Wai is such a manipulative asshole for forcing this responsibility on Pran. He brought back the guitar because he knew that he could coerce Pran into agreeing to his plan.

All the playfulness has left Pat; my boy is feeling dejected now, and Pran is at a loss of words as to how to explain his side of the situation. I'm hurting for my boys.

The rooftop rendezvous!!! They know each other a bit too well. Pran, with his "We'll never reveal our feeling if nothing forces us to do so," is just exposing himself. Speak for yourself, bestie; Pat isn't like you.

Pat coming to Pran's rescue again, when Pran seems to have lost all hope.

Yes, cheer for your man, Pran. Pat's "If my victory puts my boyfriend in trouble, I'd rather lose" got me giggling and kicking my feet like a teenager.

Oh man, the romance is romancing for sure!! Pran fed Pat the curry, the one he wanted to feed to the person he likes!!! So, they both won❤️.

Sparing a thought for Pa's bladder, though. But in the grand scheme of things, what's a pesky little UTI in front of 'soulmates' declaring their love for each other? I think Pa would be happy with the trade-off.

As I said before, Pa is a child of (PatPran's) divorce—

She had to put up with Pat wreaking havoc with his drums in the house during their breakup era.

She moved in with Pat and almost walked in on them during their 'we're trying to get back together' era.

She (her bladder) is being neglected during their makeup era.

There is something to be said about Pat's very public declarations of love (the cute dimples slide in front of the whole class, using the audition for the play to flirt with his boyfriend and him agreeing to play the lead) for Pran done in a concealed manner.

Bad Buddy Ep 6

My thoughts on Ep 1 | Ep 2 | Ep 3 | Ep 4 | Ep 5

Me, at the end of this episode:

Something about the way Pran buttoned his shirt all the way up to the collar, like it's suffocating for him to share space with Pat for the first time since their rooftop kiss, is making me unwell.

Why is Pat's father on my screen? I do not like that man. He makes Pran uncomfortable and I can't allow that. Why does Pran make himself look small when interacting with Pat's dad? Is it just his way of showing respect for an elder or is there something more?

"We know how it's going to end; isn't it better not to start at all?" Pran, bestie, are we still talking about music here? It hasn't escaped me that Pran is leaving the guitar with Wai after Pat kept it with him for 3 years before returning it to Pran. I just hope Pat doesn't find out about this.

Now, What is Pran's mom deal? You're on a timeout along with Pat's dad. Go sit in the corner for a while.

Pa is a child of (PatPran's) divorce at this point. She has to put up with Pat wreaking havoc in his room with the drums.

Pa out her assuming that everyone likes Ink because she likes her. Understandable, bestie, but you're way off in this case.

Pat following Pran to the architecture faculty volunteer camp strengthens my belief that Pat is just a lost puppy following Pran around.

The irony of Pran ignoring Pat by using the earphones that Pat gave him isn't lost on me.

Pran hasn't counted on Pat's pesky persistence. I'm cheering you on, Pat; make Pran go off-kilter.

Now, let's all thank Uncle Tong for coming up with these activities at a volunteer camp and divine intervention for actually pairing them together.

PAT USED HIS HAND TO PROTECT PRAN'S HEAD FROM THE FALL.

Wai is officially on my shit list. Why is he being so damn possessive of Pran? Pran can make his own choices, and if he weren't comfortable with Pat lying on him, I can't imagine why he wouldn't be, he can take care of himself.

Pat, bestie, I love how brazen you are, and I appreciate it.

Pran saying, "Someone like him will quit bothering us when he has had enough," in relation to Pat, and Pat coming with a chair to settle between Pran and Wai is just too fucking funny.

Now, Pran is being the physical embodiment of "My having feelings for you has nothing to do with you. Don't talk to me."

Pat is using the child, Junior, as their unofficial couple's counselor.

So, the trip to the market counts as a date, right? Glad we agree on that. Even the vendor thinks that they look cute together.

PLAYING IN THE WATER TOGETHER!!! This episode is a gift that keeps on giving. The conversation by the beach.

Okay, but what did Pat do to have Pran transferred from the school? I get his anger at his mom, but what did Pat do other than be a part of the band?

I love how, although there isn't any direct mention of homophobia (yet) in the show, their (familial & faculty) rivalry, that they didn't ask for but was imposed on them, feels like an allegory for it.

Without people around, I can sit next to you just fine. But when there's other people, talking to you feels like amatter of life and death. What can we do? We were just born this way.

OMG. Their hands touched, and Pran didn't pull away!!!!

I'm not even mad about the product placements, and that's how you know the show got me hooked.

Wai and Pat sharing a room will be interesting for sure. I don't trust him, though; he looks like he's planning to hurt my boy.

I love how Pat has zero chill, just bulldozing his way to Pran.

Wai, you fucking asshole, who do you think you are?? Pran, save your man!!!

And he does. Pran's on-the-spot lore cooking skills need to be taught in school. It's a survival skill if I'm being honest. He wasn't lying, though. His first love did fall in love. WITH HIM.

Pat CAUGHT Pran's hand and stopped him from leaving. ASFFGHDGJ—

Oh, nothing to see here, just a pair of lying liars sitting by the beach and lying to each other.

Pat's face lit up like a Christmas tree when he heard Pran say It is so obvious that you like me.

Gotta love Pat's tenacity and how he maneuvered Pran into being the recipient of his flirting.

Everything's gotta be a competition with these two. However, in this scenario, both of them are going to win and have fun along the way.

Let the (flirting) games begin!!!

Pran's definition of flirting is licking Pat's finger. SIT WITH THAT INFORMATION!! Pran, my beloved, you are a fucking menace for pulling the big guns out this early in the game!!

Bad Buddy Ep 4

Yeah, things are definitely moving along. Here we go:

Wai and Korn definitely seem to have some personal issues they need to deal with. It seems to be more than just about their faculties being all-time rivals. They are always the instigators in all their fights. Very suspicious.

The shared history between Pat, Pran, and Ink is very interesting. Can't say that my heart didn't break for Pran at times, though.

God, the married couple bickering while they were searching for Pran's earphones was just everything.

Not the fucking flashback. I'm not okay.

Pat, your oblivious ass could've just informed Pran that you wouldn't be able to come to the bus stop project that evening, especially when he reminded you of it via text. Every time she looks at Pat, I think of the proverb, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." She's a PatPran shipper at heart but knows that they have to realize it for themselves.

Like I said, Pat is a charmer. He saw her the previous day and went digging to find the bracelet she made for him years ago. Crush confirmed. I'm hurting for Pran, though. Thank God he excused himself from there.

Back with my Pat is just a lost puppy following Pran around agenda because, as far as I can recall, Pran didn't order fried chicken or anything. He left when Ink asked him what he wanted to eat.

Excuse me, but what did I do to deserve this domesticity? The ointment application and the makeup removal. I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. If I had your dimples, would I be as cute as you? STAHP IT!!

Ink, girl, what's your game here? Are you flirting with Pran??!! Wouldn't blame you, but I just want to know.

Wow, Pran is looking at Pat, who's smiling at Ink laughing. My boy Pran is already in physical pain; why are you subjecting him to emotional pain too?

Korn is definitely on my shit list now; he better watch his back. You can't hurt Pran and expect to walk away scot-free. Not on my watch. Now, something about Wai coming between Pat and Pran isn't sitting right with me. Maybe he's just being a little protective because Pran is hurt. We'll see.

So, Ink is just giving away those bracelets? I've got bad news for you, Pat. Pran asking Ink directly if she likes Pat is my 1597th reason to love him. She doesn't. Man, but the face Pran made when she asked if he was interested in her was just incredible. Janice, HE'S GAY. Oh no, Pat saw their interaction and cue sad face.

SLEEPOVER TIME!! Pat likes Ink, and Pran doesn't. Good that it's all out in the open. However, it's very interesting that Pran doesn't tell Pat that Ink only sees him as a friend. Maybe he feels like it's not his place to let him know.

"If you were her, would you like me?" Well, pierce a knife through my heart and twist it. Why don't you? I'm sure it would hurt less. Pran doesn't give a direct answer. Are those fucking tears in Pran's eyes? I'm unwell.

Something that's in the back of my mind is how well Pat and Pran act as character foils to each other. There is something very childish about Pat and too mature about Pran. Pat needs to care about his friends actions and the repercussions from their actions, and Pran needs to learn and accept that he isn't responsible for other people's actions.

Thoughts on Pat's bisexuality

Not to harp on my hating on Pat's dad train, but I'm sure being bisexual is something Pat never considered. Pat's dad seems to subscribe to a very narrow view of masculinity, and I'm sure he must have imbibed it onto Pat too. Sure, Pat made jokes with Pran about being his wife or boyfriend, but that's all it was: a joke. Seeing Pran as a romantic partner has never even crossed his mind.

Bad Buddy Ep 2

My thoughts on Ep 1

Guys, y'all weren't exaggerating about OhmNanon chemistry. I was in a trance whenever they were on the screen together. Now onto my thoughts—

It speaks a lot about my affection towards Pran that I'm willing to overlook him cutting his sandwich into rectangles and not triangles.

Pat sleeping with a dog plushie just makes me double down on my he's just a lost puppy running after Pran agenda.

Not my boy Pran cooking up lore on the spot just to avoid them fighting at the pavilion. And Pat following the lead. I just can't 😂😂.

I like how they don't know that the person in the opposite dorm is the one they've been told to dislike since birth. The anonymity might help them realize their genuine feelings for each other without their familial rivalry coloring it.

Once again, Pa keeping it very real with Pat and not feeding into his delusions.

Pat's signature move when he wants to distract someone seems to be to treat them with food. I love that for him, but bestie has to come up with alternative moves if he doesn't want to end up going broke. I can already tell that Pran is going to be the haver of all brain cells in his and Pat's relationship.

Pran's friends teasing him about a man crushing on him and the camera cutting to Pat laughing. So, it seems like we aren't going for subtlety here.

Well, the anonymity didn't last long. Gotta applaud Pran for letting Pat know the truth instead of leading him on, which he could've if he really hated Pat.

Pat's dad being the quintessential Asian dad by saying, I'm not putting pressure on you; you have to maintain my reputation. Sir, how about I don't see your face for a while?

Okay, I'm not taking sides about the family rivalry, which I know nothing about, but Pat's dad definitely seems like the instigator. Just saying. We'll have to see if I change my opinion of him.

Again, the irony of the father saying that Pran followed Pat around with his guitar when the Freshy Music contest wasn't (probably) even on Pat's radar until he followed Pran to the registration area.

I'm very interested in their individual friend group dynamics, though. Pran's friends, after they discovered that a guy might have a crush on him, responded with teasing but not in a malicious way. On the other hand, Pat's friend's reaction when they found out that the person Pran thought might have a crush on him was a guy was just total avoidance of the matter at hand. Will they address it in the future? We'll have to see.

Is Pran's mom the coach dad from High School Musical to Pran's Troy??? The familial rivalry better be something serious given the way the parents are acting.

I love Petty Pran. His I want you to continue being guilty; coutinue owing me to Pat is giving me life.

Awww, the ticke fight/tussle shows us that even though Pat is physically stronger, Pran is the one who'll end up on top.

Not these dumbasses fighting at the fucking pavilion. All their friends need to just fuck each other to get rid of the tension. Because what is the purpose of men fighting with each other if not a heterosexual excuse to touch another man?

Not mentioned in this episode, but if I'm remembering correctly, Pran has one of Pat's shirts with him from Ep 1. Will he return it or keep it with him just for old times sake? Will they ever mention it again? Only time will tell.

Happy Holidays y'all, I'm back on track!

The beach reminds me of the fact that I live way too far from the sea.

But yeah, I like the choice of setting to break this awkward situation they are in.

Very serviceable bonding episode, me like it.

I also like the way they are putting the reprise of Just Friends? out there. That's the power of the original OST - you use the known melody to support the narrative and blend it throughout the show.

The way the way they are smiling at each other! I do want to smush their faces together.

Oh, they are entering a shameless flirting era. I might not survive it.

But Why do they need to compete in everything literally?

Is the guy who plays the show's director here, a real-life MSP director? Goes to check MDL. Yes, he is.

Those auditions, lmao, I feel like Nanon & Co's reactions weren't scripted. They seemed like they couldn't contain the laughter.

I didn't think that Canon & Nivea would be the matchmakers of the season. This show has perfect PP, I am choking every time (THE SEAWEED)

Oh boy, Ink had enough at the same time that I did. Quit playing boys, I can see you reaching the limit.

Was Wai always kind of manipulative and overbearing or was it just a one-off thing? Either way that was not something I expected from him. Or maybe I took it too seriously? (I have an allergy to those types of behavior)

The way they resolved the conflict was very, VERY clever. Now I'm afraid something terrible will happen soon.

Bad Buddy [EP 5]

Previously: We're stuck with Pram's eyes filling with tears while Pat's sleeping next to his bed!

I know this is THE EPISODE so I am trying to not let my expectations get ahead of me. Also, I can manage to go through one episode only so I'm writing this up before I forget.

I found the culprit! Someone, please put this song behind a paywall. It got out again.

I do like Ink more than I expected, she couldn't be less interested in Pat if she tried, bless her.

Ohhh, parallels are paralleling! Cogs in Pat's brain start to turn guys, he might figure some things out I think.

Oh, Ohm's face journey, posture, and everything - how could Pat lose this easy-going vibe so easily? Things turned out to be more dramatic than I expected, I was counting on a dash of humour but our Boy is too tense to joke around.

They wrote a song together!!! *GASP* (Some of you who know this blog a little bit should understand what it means to me when creating music together is used as a plot vehicle)

Why did I think Pat would use that song somehow? Anyway, many complicated feelings resurface, and I feel creeping anxiety.

Now, we have come to my favourite scene in this episode. The triangle confrontation was excellent and that pulsating energy between all three of the boys was something to behold (actually I am a bit scared of Jimmy; he has such a commanding presence that I would have died of a heart attack if I saw him in the dark alley). Pran desperately trying to maintain the status quo vs Pat being tired of playing pretense... I knew it wasn't gonna blow up at this point but my gosh was it close to the surface.

Ok, ok, but what about the balcony rooftop scene. So I know that the kiss scene is THE scene but maybe because I've seen it before it lost a bit of momentum for me (not to say it wasn't perfectly paced or acted). My favourite thing about it is probably the way it ends differently for Pat & Pran - that relief vs sad helplessness(?). Oof. I think I've read some meta about it at some point.

I enjoyed the amazing mix of emotions this episode brought but I am now even more curious about what the next 7 eps will bring. Are we gonna have a secret boyfriend era? With a dramatic twist? (The only thing I know is that Pat is gonna get shot at some point hah)

Aww, maybe it's my age talking but it is actually kind of adorable seeing those boys confronted with the adult world in the form of company executives.

I enjoy (surprisingly!) how loud and gross (affectionate) Pat is sometimes. I haven't seen such a characterisation in a long time. Nowadays everyone is definitely more glammed up and less... this.

TEERAK! We are doing a little roleplay! I know like 5 words in Thai so when I clock one I am excited like a puppy, also - Pat was extra adorable saying that. I want Pat & Pran to design all the bus stops around the world. Also, my dash hasn't prepared me for this scene. I need some gifs (I will probably search in the tags after I'm done with the whole thing)

Ok, now I'm buying that Pran is crushing hard and Pat is oblivious. I'm EXTREMELY curious how it's gonna evolve, cause it's so not gonna be a smooth sail

Hello Ink, welcome to the triangle! We are raising the stakes and testing Pran's patience. By the way, this boy seems so tense, he's gonna break sooner or later. Or maybe it's just the way he is + strict upbringing. Or is there something slightly neurodivergent going on here?

I don't know why I am surprised with the amount of tropes/product placement we have here. It's a Thai BL after all, it's made of the same puzzle pieces as most of the stories in the genre. Anyway, always good to see a classic wound tending.

How many times Pran is gonna lean on the door smiling after kicking Pat out of his room? Can we make a drinking game about it?

BTW I have heard the music in the nivea scene way too many times (in other series/trailers etc.). Please ban it for any further use.

The way Pran's eyes were filling with tears in the bed scene is gonna stay with me for a bit (I hope he's gonna at least write a nice song about it finally). I feel like shouting at Pat - can't you see? can't you see that you're hurting him with your earnestness and unconscious flirting? - but alas, he can't. A classic theme!

I'm gonna sit with that final scene for a bit before I dive into THE EPISODE that everyone is talking about. Stay tuned!

Bad Buddy Ep 1

On the occasion of Pat Shottiversery (no idea what this means, just know that it's a thing in the fandom), I've decided to finally jump the gun and watch Bad Buddy and share my thoughts along the way. Here it goes:

I've known Pran for 2 minutes and I already know that my baby can do no wrong.

The kids are the cutest!! Kudos to the casting team because I can actually believe that they were Pat and Pran in their younger years.

The new chancellor employing collective punishment to keep them in line is interesting.

Wai embellishing the story and telling Pran that he congratulated them by giving them a thumbs-up instead of what happened in reality, i.e., showing them the middle finger and starting a fight, just screams foreshadowing to me.

Both of them chose different career paths, Pat pursuing engineering and Pran with the architecture degree. I would've expected them to choose the same stream and compete there too. Hmmm

None of their friends know about their supposed rivalry, which began before they were even born.

I love Pa. She had me at the 'You guys are soulmates' comment, and she's protective over Pran❤️.

Oh, the irony of Pat accusing Pran of following him to the same university when Pat followed Pran to participate in the Freshy Music contest. I understand Pat, though; I too would be following Pran around like a lost puppy.

Pat's wink and Pran's smile in return after their rather short-lived victory are everything. Not the fake fighting, though 😭😂.

Pat was the one who said that others shouldn't view them as friends when they were kids, so I understand Pran making Pat add him to the My Friends list on WeChat first. Gotta respect pettiness.

I have so many feelings about the watch. Pran keeping it with him for all these years and then changing it to the current time and putting it on his hand after Pat added him as a friend AHTDFDSGFG. He is restarting their relationship by bringing it to the current times. He doesn't want to be stuck in the past.*screaming*

This is a little late for Shottiversary 2024, but among all the zingy, zany and joyful Pat Got Shot posts flooding my dash these past 24 hours (thanks and much love to instigators @shortpplfedup and @dimplesandfierceeyes! 😍) this 2021 Ask from @magicalgirlchar to @maggiecheungs caught my eye:

After numerous rewatches in the three years since – WE NOW KNOW THE ANSWER! There’s no need to dig through the medical records at Boonyavej!

Take a look at this screenshot from the fight scene between Pat, Pran and Wai in Episode 5:

PAT HAS DOUBLE-JOINTED ANKLES.

He can splay his feet 180° to the side! 👀 (Well, technically it’s Ohm who can do that, but it also means that Pat can too. 🤩)

In the image above, Pat’s thighs are parallel and his knees are pointing forward – but his feet have decided to do their own thing and that is a freakishly difficult pose to hold!

Did he twist his ankles at rugby? Did he fracture them falling to the ground after Wai punched him in Ep.5? DID HE MASTER CINQUIÈME POSITION IN BALLET CLASS? 👀

We may never know, but what this means is that Pat’s feet needn’t always be where you think they might be – and if he had any inkling that the gun might misfire as he wrestled with Ham, he could have swiveled his foot out of the way well beforehand in anticipation. Of course our boy Pat knows his way around in a fight (we saw that in Ep.1 scene 1 👍😊).

I wasn’t expecting to post about Jindapat Ankles on Christmas Day, but then again when did Bad Buddy ever not surprise us? Merry Christmas and Happy Patgotshottiversary Boxing Day to all!
