Thoughts on where the supernatural ending went wrong and why it wasn’t that hard to make it right
Alright I don’t usually do long analysis posts, but I’ve been yelling about this for over two hours so here it goes.
Spoilers for 15x20 (duh)
First things first: I’ll say it now, it was the right ending for the characters don’t @ me. It was the right ending but the worst possible way to get there.
Sam having a family and a relatively normal life, Dean in heaven with all his loved ones, Cas helping Jack be better than Chuck and making the world a better place. If you look back into their journeys that is exactly what they wanted and what they fought for.
The finale starts like a MOTW episode for no reason, cuts to Dean dying in a really dumb way and having an emotional goodbye that no one cared about because we were expecting a resolution to 15x18. Then cuts to an emotional Sam montage, then cuts to a rushed epilogue and that’s it. Nothing else.
I’ve seen many posts during the last two weeks on how this should end, but the basics are: getting Castiel back, Destiel resolution, Sam reuniting with Eileen, Sam and Dean going their separate ways with their respective partners but implying this is not the end. This closes the show nicely, closes every storyline we’ve had this season, and gives the characters actual happy endings.
But we didn’t get a single one of those.
What we got was a mess that dismissed everything they did this season and many things they did the past 15 years.
So, what went wrong and how could it have gone right? Note, I do believe they had to rewrite things because of the pandemic and all the lockdowns but there were better ways to do it.
The most disappointing thing about the finale is Castiel. The one thing everyone wanted was to get him back nothing more. There is this one great post (that I couldn’t find to save my life) about the basic thing this episode had to do and it was to save Cas, for him to get an actual conversation with Dean and closure. Destiel or not we needed closure. We got an offhanded comment and a license plate. That was the farewell to one of the most beloved characters this show ever had.
They could have ended 15x19 with Jack bringing Cas back before leaving to do god stuff, then Dean avoiding the subject until he gets impaled into a nail and Cas enters the barn perfectly mirroring his very first entrance to save Dean. And then they have the conversation™. Satisfying ending, ties all loose ends, can still end the show with Sam and Dean together in heaven.
They could have done Cas arrive to the barn just in time to save Dean saying Jack saved him and not explain a thing and it would have been better.
They could have made the same thing and then Sam answers the phone, and it is Castiel telling him Dean is happy in heaven and wants him to live his life. Ambiguous about Destiel but still good enough and again they can have the same ending.
They could have had Cas receiving Dean in heaven and (a kiss) resolution right there.
Dean dies on the dumbest death in 15 seasons of supernatural and that’s saying something.
That could have been avoided with either not having the nail conveniently there or with Castiel saving him. There solved you can do a million other things for the epilogue.
Or you know if they really wanted to end Cas on 15x18 they could have made his moment of true happiness, learning to be human and knowing he is fighting for the right reasons. It would have avoided burying the gays and coming off as the most homophobic finale ever.
Cas is literally dismissed but looking past that they gave him the perfect ending only failed to actually show the thing. He started as a soldier from heaven who rebelled because it was the right thing to do. Throughout eleven seasons he grows to understand humans and to get disappointed with heaven. In the end he fights for humanity and wants to make things right. Him continuing to mentor Jack in being a better god than Chuck is the perfect ending for Castiel’s arc.
Eileen never appears again. You are telling me they brought her back, created yet another loophole to bring her back to life, made a season long storyline about her and Sam getting together, killed her again, implied she is back to life (again) thanks to Jack. Just to completely ignore her in the finale.
I know the pandemic might have made it impossible for the show to bring Shoshannah Stern back for one day of filming, and if you squint it is implied the wife is Eileen, but that’s not good enough.
Here is where it feels there were rewrites. The best resolution was doing an actual reunion with the two of them going off together if that wasn’t possible with the lockdown the next best thing was to confirm in some way that Sam and Eileen ended up together.
Easiest way, when Sam was dying and they were zooming into all the photos doing a long dramatic pause on a photo of Eileen, or with she and Sam together. They could have taken a behind the scenes photo of Shoshannah and Jared and photoshoped it. Just to confirm they ended together.
I do believe both Sam and Dean dying and ending in heaven together was the right call, but Dean’s death was still dumb.
He should have either died in a hunt on a really epic way or (my personal favorite) died as an old man with Sam by his side and given his speech there. That would have been impactful, and the speech is actually really good. It was overshadowed by the Castiel shaped hole the finale had.
Either way Dean dying first and getting the new heaven explanation feels right, but it should have been Castiel or Jack receiving him there not Bobby. And that is another thing I feel had to be rewritten. The dialogue on that scene makes me think that in a non covid year everyone would have been there to receive Dean to heaven. And I mean everyone Mary, John, Bobby, Jo, Ellen, original Charlie, Bobby, Kevin, Pamela, Adam, Benny (even if this one is impossible), I’m sure I forgot someone.
And then he goes on a drive and meets Sam at the end. That ending works perfectly and would have been super powerful with the right execution but was overshadowed by everyone’s collective anger.
A perfect finale would have started with Castiel returning (even if it required mime vampires in skull masks), followed by the conversation everyone was hoping for, Eileen returning. And then the epilogue montage.
If I could ask for things during that it would have been: Destiel with a roadhouse, Cas coming and going to help Jack become a better god. Sam and Eileen going off together and eventually retiring together. Their wedding with Dean as best man and Castiel marrying them (also destiel wedding but I know that is way too much to ask). A montage of everyone getting together for Christmas and stuff. Scenes showing how hunters still visit Sam for info, magic, and advice. Eileen being pregnant and them being happy parents together. Dean being a good uncle. A good death for Dean with Sam, Cas, and Jack by his side and then the speech would have destroyed me. A good look for old man Sam and old man Dean. And eventually Sam dying and reuniting with Dean.
That would have felt satisfying and like they earned that ending.
One last thing. The “we want to thank you” speech felt like throwing salt in the wound of a really bad finale, but it would have been a billion times better if they got Misha there, and every actor and crewmember who was ever relevant to this show saying thank you (from home if they couldn’t be there for some reason covid).
#guess who cried more writing this than with the actual episode#supernatural#15x20#spn#spn finale#supernatural finale#dean winchester#sam winchester#castiel#destiel#look I refused to ship destiel from day one because I didn't want to be dissapointed#but guess two weeks accepting I ship them made me suffer in the end anyway#long post#I have no regrets about turning into a supernatural blog for a day#I have been emotionally invested in this show for too many years not to

SPN Season 15 Spoiler Sheet, update 8/31
Waited until that second trailer came out to post. I am LIVING with all this new content! Mind the disclaimer and check it out under the cut.
DISCLAIMER: This is gathered info from various sources. This is not confirmed information. Stuff in this WILL be wrong. Don’t take this too seriously. This is for fun. Also, if you use this info for another publication, please let me know as a courtesy. Don’t be a dick. It's all out there, but it hurts to see my same phrasing on other publications after all the work I’ve done to consolidate it…
General Info (oldest to newest). This is a blend of pre-COVID and post COVID, so some might change.
They are adding a whole extra day to filming to do the final scene. They will film the final scene last. (Implies logistics- lots of returning people?) PRE COVID SPOILER
In an interview, Kripe indicated that the series ending would have “peace” for Sam and Dean
Not much new at the TCA’s, but it was said it is “unlikely” Jeffery Dean Morgan will be back since his last appearance was such a good end note. There were some jokes about a Castiel spin off.
There will be a special tribute ep (Post COVID talk seems to indicate this will stil happen)
Misha will be in 15 out of 20 episodes this season (he’s missed 3 so far and I suspect will miss 14 and 16, unclear about 19).
Cas’ deal with the Empty may come up later in the season.
Jack will be a critical part of the ending of the show
Dean and Amara’s connection will be explored
There will be a bunker themed episode (MarySue article)
In one of his cookbook interviews, Misha used the word “we” several times when talking about the final scene of Supernatural. He said that would be the last scene they shoot. It seemed to imply that he was in the scene, but that could be open to interpretation.
JaxCon/Vegas Con spoilers:
Misha said the ending was “happier than he expected” but also had some sadness. He later used “sad and redemptive”
Misha mentioned that Claire will be mentioned on the show, but as of yet not appear.
Dean says the line “stop killing my people” (to god?)
Jensen said he doesn’t see how the story could continue past this season, but Jared said its more of “a see you later”
Misha confirmed he’s in the final scene, but he also indicated he had one week of filming left (total?) PRE COVID SPOILER
Al Cal posted a pic of a “thrown away” call sheet that seem to indicate Micheal, Lucifer, and a character named “Betty” interacting in the bunker. Unclear as to the validity.
There will be a flashback episode
Charlie (original flavor) will return
Filming will resume on Aug 18th. Per Canadian policy, they must quarantine for two weeks. Those quarantining seems to include:
Fairly Clear: Jared, Jensen, Jake Abel (Micheal), Rob Benedict (Chuck/God) Mark Pelligrino (Lucifer), Al Cal (didn't need to quarantine, but he is definitely on set)
Unclear/Rumored: Misha (he is being deliberately cagey), Osric Chau (Kevin- but likely for another project, he was a week ahead of everyone else) Jim Beaver (Bobby) flew to Vancouver on 8/26, so he could make it for the last couple days of filming with a quarantine
No idea: Shoshannah Stern and Ruth
Reasons Unlikely: Sam Smith (chemo treatment), Kim Rhodes (working at a camp during quarantine)
Jensen said sp 19 is more of a season finale, while 20 is a series finale. Repeated in interviews/livestreams.
Megan Fitz. complimented both Dabb’s and Glynn’s writing on twitter. Not sure if it is in reference to rewrites or the special retrospective that is planned.
Jensen indicated that the ending did change per COVID protocols. Unclear how much.
Misha is being very, very cagey about where he is. Some live streams seem to indicate he is not at home, but he has yet to confirm- his presence in 19/20 is hard to track. In an interview with Metaverse, he was in bed in a hotel looking space and you could see mountains in the background. He was not on set for the first week of filming, so he could be a week behind.
Misha has thrown around the words “final” and “what he <Misha> would have wanted” per Cas’ ending. “Sad/Proud” and “poignant” were also used.
The final episodes will premier October 8th. The finale will air Nov 19th in conjunction with an hour long special.
A trailer was released on 8/27. Scenes included:
A moving speech from Sam to Dean
(Possibly from 18) A teary conversation between Dean and Cas
Injured Dean being helped by Cas in the bunker
Jack breaking some cuffs/bring thrown into a wall/saying he has to kill god
Dean and his grenade launcher and a purple nightgown
Sam in a sweater vest getting a gun from under a pillow
A glimpse of a body with “Lust” written above it/a matronly woman (I think the villain from 14) saying “Boys”
Ghost Dean? Little Sam cutting off a hand
Some intermixed scenes from past episodes
A second trailer was released on 8/31. Scenes included:
A monologue from Billie about god coming to destroy the planet plus her banging on a bunker door (with her hand all gooey) and striking someone with her sythe
Jack continuing his speech about killing god but expanding that he has a ritual to do
Lots of red danger lights in the bunker/ 3 people getting tossed around in the bunker/Chuck in the bunker
Chuck saying he doesn't believe Sam and Dean can kill him
Young Sam and not ghost Young dean
Dean angrily driving the Impala then saying “its time”
Cas drawing his blade in front of an old truck to protect someone in a suit (Jack? I cant tell)
More Dean tears
A surprise appearance from Bobby
Some of the same scenes as before

15x20 Thoughts
I’m going to be talking about 15x20 and what I thought about it so if you don’t want to read a long text post then keep on scrolling.
Okay, first things first, I liked it. I didn’t love it, but I liked it. I think it was fitting and I think it worked. Dean always wanted to go out on a hunt, that’s how he wanted to die, he knew he wasn’t going to live to a ripe old age and he was okay with that (I’m not saying we have to be okay with that, I’ll touch upon that in a moment, but Dean was happy with the way he went and I think we should remember that).
I’m glad Sam got a family and the Winchester name is being carried on. I loved that he named his son Dean and I’m going to assume that he was with Eileen because there’s no reason to assume he wasn’t. I just think they couldn’t get Shoshannah back so they used that awkward long shot instead.
Before I dive into what I think could have been better and what I’ll forever remain mad about, I want to say that we’re allowed to dislike the episode, we’re allowed to feel mad about it and let down but please, please, do not attack the actors. They don’t get the final say in the end and they gave incredible, award winning, performances. So please refrain from directing hate to them and asking them how they could let this happen. And most importantly, on Sunday when Misha and Jared have their panels, please be respectful, they’re going to be emotional and they’re going to be nervous because they’re seeing our reactions, even if they don’t respond, so they know what we’ve thought, and so far all I’ve seen is hate and not one post about it being good.
We’re also allowed to like the episode, and for those that 100% loved it, remember their feelings are valid, please don’t come at each other’s throats.
Ironically, with that being said, I’m going to talk about what I didn’t like.
So, first off. Dean’s death shattered me. I don’t think I’ve ever cried that hard, I physically couldn’t breathe. Dean is my favorite character and watching him die like that absolutely wrecked me.
I’m so torn about this scene, because on one hand, that’s how Dean wanted to go, but on the other hand, that was a shitty way for him to go. Killed by a fucking nail? In a barn? Just no. He deserved so much better. SO.MUCH.BETTER. This is Dean fucking Winchester, he defeated God’s, and devils, and angels, and demons, but this is how he goes? I’m not buying it. And his speech to Sam, while it was beautiful and I loved it and Dean was being so brave and vulnerable and proud of his baby brother, it was a little... off. The head touch was a bit too wincestie for me. That head touch shouldn’t have been there, if they were going to do a head touch like that, it should have been with CAS.
Speaking of Cas. He should have been in that episode. There is NO EXCUSE. Covid is not a valid reason for his absence. They brought back our Bobby but not Cas? Castiel who has been such an important part of this show for so many years? Cas who confessed his love to Dean and who subsequently died right afterwards? And now, apparently he’s out of the empty and helping Jack with heaven, but we don’t get to SEE him? That is wrong on so many levels. I needed a DeanCas reunion, I needed it so badly.
I firmly believe that Cas was supposed to be there (we’ll know eventually when the pre-Covid script is released and we learn what the changes were, and if that’s not the case then really, what the fuck? Like actually I’ll be even more mad). I also believe that Ellen, Jo, and Ash were supposed to be there too, in the roadhouse and there was going to be a reunion, John and Mary too, but because of Covid they couldn’t.
I think it would have been very fitting if CAS was the one who welcomed Dean into heaven (stay tuned I will be writing this fix it fic). I needed Dean to acknowledge his feelings, I needed there to be more of Dean grieving. Don’t get me wrong, the montage in the beginning was amazing and I loved it, but they shouldn’t have been that happy. We know how devastated Dean has been in the past when Cas died, I find it very hard to believe he moved on so quickly, it just seemed so out of character. I needed them to talk more about Cas, about what he said, and what Dean thought about it. But they couldn’t even give us that. They literally buried their gays and dusted off their hands to a job well done and I cannot accept that. I have to ask the point of the love confession if it wasn’t going to be reciprocated? If it wasn’t going to matter in the end? I’m so unbelievably disappointed that they gave us that and nothing else, they didn’t even talk about it, or mention it. Did Sam ever even know what really happened? Cas deserved better. He deserved to be told he was loved, which he never heard, and no matter how many fix it fics we write, that will forever remain true and I hate it.
Cas. Should. Have. Been. Back. I will forever stand by that.
Sam’s ending worked. I liked it a lot and I wouldn’t change it. He deserved his happy ending, he deserved to be a father, and I’m so glad he got that.
However, this show is about family and how it doesn’t end in blood, and yet in the end it was all about blood. I’m genuinely so disappointed about that. That was like a slap to the face and I can’t believe that they decided that instead of ending the show by proving, once again, that family don’t end in blood, they decided to go back on everything the show has been about, everything that has been the core of this crazy little show that could for so long.
They could have done so much better, and they should have done so much better. We deserved better.
So, after all of that, my final thoughts are as follows:
I liked it. I really did. Were there things that should have been changed? Yes. HELL YES, but I can’t be entirely disappointed about the ending we got because it did fit, and it was beautiful.
The only thing that really would’ve made it better was having Cas there. All they had to do was give us Cas and I’d be happy with the ending. I’d be happy with Dean dying on an old nail in a barn, if we got Cas in heaven with Dean. But we didn’t, so I’ll never be truly happy with the ending, I’ll never be satisfied. But I will take what we got because in the end, this is the show that has brought so many people together, this is the show that’s taught us all valuable lessons, and this is the show that we all love so much it hurts.
And remember... nothing ever really ends, does it?
There are doors that were left open for a movie, even if they’re just set slightly ajar, the Winchester brothers, and their fallen angel, can return to us in the future and maybe everything they fucked up will be fixed. But for now... we must carry on.

Note
I rewatched 15x07 today and I just couldn't stop seeing how much Eileen was Chuck in 15x7. Her personality, the "ew" when Cas said some part of Sam's soul is in Chuck, her reactions to any talk of Chuck, how she was standing behind Sam and sort of side eying him when Sam said he had been in Chuck's head... Well, even when she propositioned Sam, they were supposed to be looking for ways to *stop* Chuck. Why do you think the show chose to focus on that instead of developing Saileen's relationship?
omg, okay... so you see this exactly the same way I do, and I really wrestled with whether to post this publicly or not, because every time I bring up these extremely valid points, confirmed in canon by Chuck, I get told I’m either a horrible person for thinking this way or I’m delusional or a moron for feeling uncomfortable ignoring this stuff just for the sake of a ship. And I just... can’t ignore it. Because it’s canon.
One of the Big Questions of the entire season is “what is real, and what is Chuck.” Eileen returned ONE EPISODE after we learned the extent of Chuck’s ability to fuck with them directly, via Lilith. The notion that Chuck would just drop that lesson on them and then peace out is just... idiotic to me. We were supposed to see Sam’s statement at the beginning of 15.06, and Dean’s reply, as the huge flashing neon warning sign it was supposed to be:
Sam: No. I haven't had a vision since Colorado. I think maybe they stopped.Dean: Oh, I doubt it. Not until Chuck gets His end game, you know? The Winchester Bowl. Cain and Abel 2.0. This is God we're talking about. G-O-D. Wouldn't be too worried about finding Him. He'll find us.
LOLOLOLOL I mean, yes? He doesn’t even have to look hard to find you? He knows exactly where you are and how to manipulate you. He’s been doing it basically forever.
and then all of a sudden *random dead character we haven’t seen or even MENTIONED in three years* just suddenly appears specifically needing their help? And we’re supposed to think it’s an unproblematic win all around?
Sure Jan.
Chuck honestly couldn’t have chosen a better lure to send them. Someone the Winchesters would be thrown off by, someone they felt guilt over not having been able to save. Someone they’d be willing to drop everything else to help, and wouldn’t question remaining present in their lives. Someone they would trust without question. And specifically someone who had the kind of connection to Sam that Chuck could exploit to further the divide between Sam and Dean. Exactly as we saw happen... Dean made assumptions about their relationship and retreated even further into his own issues, leaving Sam alone and open to Chuck using Eileen in exactly the way we saw play out in his Vision of the Future in 15.09... driving Sam into her arms only to kill her off in a horrific, tragic situation in order to manipulate Sam into the reckless nihilism that engulfed their world by the end. Sounds exactly like what Chuck failed to accomplish with the whole BMoL plot in s12, which we ALSO know was orchestrated BY HIM, thanks to 14.20. Same story, different turn of the wheel.
Because Chuck needed all of that to get around the effects of that wound and lay down a trap that would eventually be sprung at the end of 15.08. If Cas hadn’t gone poking around in Sam’s wound, compromising Chuck’s plan, theoretically I believe he would’ve continued to use Eileen as his eyes on the Winchesters. The whole “lure Eileen out of the bunker and ensure she brings Sam along for the ride” thing felt more like a scramble to find a faster solution to his bigger problem and eliminate the compromised middle-man in his ability to directly mess with the Winchesters, which brought us to 15.09 and his desperation to force Sam into “breaking the connection” by his own choice. Since it was Sam’s will that fired the not-a-bullet that wounded them both in the first place. He literally had to break Sam’s will that generated that connection in 14.20.
As far as Chuck knew, his plans for Eileen to seduce Sam had failed, repeatedly. Between Cas’s cockblock entrance in 15.07 (which I still struggle to see as Sam ready to accept her proposition, for SO many reasons... I mean just look at his face in the first moments after it registers that she’s propositioning him. Those initial reactions are absolutely not undiluted romantic interest and passion, much as some creatively edited gif sets would lead you to believe.
I appreciate this one, with the further context of 15.09 to support my tag on it from the day after 15.07 aired.
https://mittensmorgul.tumblr.com/post/189512551075
The look Eileen gives Cas is just screaming come on you believe me right? I’m completely innocent in all of this! Just nice little sweet resurrected Eileen! Like Chuck hadn’t expected Cas to show back up and interfere with his Seduce Sam for Manpain plan.
But that seduction scene actually hurts to watch... I mean, Sam is still feeling the guilt and pain over having killed Rowena, only to discover all of her worldly possessions and magic had been entrusted to him (and not yet knowing that specific spell to resurrect Eileen had been planted by Chuck as a deliberate manipulation in itself...). LOOK AT THIS SERIES OF FACIAL EXPRESSIONS AND EXPLAIN HOW THIS IS ROMANTIC INTEREST AND NOT GRIEF AND SHOCK:
https://canonspngifs.tumblr.com/post/189663948344/adaav-sam-winchester-15x07
Okay, now that’s out of the way, back to Eileen.
Why did they make this particular choice for her character instead of developing a real relationship with Sam and Eileen? Because she was never written with the intent of becoming Sam’s endgame love interest.
Full stop.
Anyone who says otherwise is either choosing to believe that because it props up their chosen ship or they’re unaware of the numerous times that Robbie Thompson has contradicted that statement.
I mean, I don’t usually quote this source, but this is Robbie Thompson speaking recently (within the last year) specifically about the creation of Eileen’s character:
Next up: Eileen and Shoshannah. Did they specifically want a woman hunter?
Robbie: No, it was just, they were looking for standalone episodes. So what will happen is the showrunners will come around and say, “Hey, we need a myth-arc episode. Please deliver X, Y, and Z, but build an episode around it. Or [do] a standalone.” I had this idea for this character and I had worked with Shoshannah, sort of tangentially, because I was the writer’s assistant and I wrote an episode of Jericho. She wasn’t in the episode that I wrote but she played Bonnie on that show and (this is a spoiler if you haven’t seen Jericho) her character has an untimely death. But Shoshannah was so good in the series, and she was so terrific in that episode. She’s a badass in that episode, with a whole infiltration thing and she’s blowing dudes away with a shotgun, and I was like, “Oh, I wanna see her kick some ass.” I always wanted to work with her again. So I pitched the episode with that character in mind, and then I was like, “I’d love to work with Shoshannah again.” They reached out and she fortunately had a window in her schedule; she was available.
Then I reached out, I think originally through her manager, to say, “Hey, can you put us in touch because I’m not deaf and I want to make sure I’m getting an authentic experience for the performer.” So she and I exchanged a bunch of emails. She’s since gone on to be a showrunner and a writer in her own regard. She’s a really, really brilliant writer and a brilliant actor as well. It was great being able to get her the script early so she could help me fix the parts that didn’t work. Then, on the day, she and Jared had really great chemistry and John Badham, who was the director of that episode ("Into the Mystic" 11.11), they really played around and found a lot of fun moments that weren’t scripted at all. That was just them having fun and building moments.
All those cute chemistry moments... were never even scripted. She was intended to be a one-off character that was unsurprisingly very well loved by fandom, and who was brought back when the overarching plot made her MoL connection relevant to the story in 12.17. Unfortunately for her, that meant her ONLY purpose for returning to the story was literally to be killed for Sam’s manpain. They gave her just enough cute chemistry with Sam to imply they had the potential for a romantic connection, and then killed her in one of the most brutal and horrific ways possible. Which was literally exactly what Chuck used her for in s15.
I’d like to suggest that, knowing the full truth of her entire situation, that the sinister parallel being suggested in 15.07 is not between Cas and Eileen, but between Eileen and Lee Webb. Sam’s history with her is similarly tragic to Dean’s history with Lee. And Lee represented a version of an apple pie life that tempted Dean-- the prospect of having food, fun, health, and happiness instead of the grind of hunting. Only it was a lie, because Lee hadn’t made that life for himself, he’d built it off the magic of a creature he sacrificed an endless stream of human lives to in order to falsely manipulate his own circumstances. The cake is a lie, in other words. Just like the cheerful hangover breakfast Sam and Eileen were preparing at the beginning of the episode. It just... wasn’t real. We were being urged to consider this parallel. And not seeing it for what it was required having some heavy duty ship goggles glued on.
This was doubled-down on in 15.08, with Sam being a bit overbearing and nearly getting himself killed in the opening hunt, pushing Eileen to their “agreement,” which additionally foiled Chuck’s plans to push them together romantically. Eileen couldn’t spy on Sam for Chuck if she still retained enough independence to set boundaries like that, you know? If she didn’t have eyes on the Winchesters, she wasn’t useful for what Chuck was using her for, and she was punished for that failure as much as Sam was, being forced to hurt Sam in 15.09.
Heck. This is how I’ve always seen all of this. If folks enjoy assuming some Grand Romance between Sam and Eileen, more power to them. But honestly I just can’t personally see the justification in canon for that read on things. Not to say that Sam and Eileen won’t choose to come to a different understanding in the future, or that their relationship couldn’t develop into something more once Chuck has been dealt with, but I can’t see it as romantic yet. I’d be totally down to ship them in that eventuality. And in fanon, I’m totally here for it even now.
#spn 15.06#spn 15.07#spn 15.08#spn 15.09#chuck's process#once again i'm just relieved i'm not the only one seeing it this way#seriously i encourage everyone to really look at that gif set i linked of sam's reaction to the proposition#show it to someone who hasn't seen the episode and tell them this is his reaction to being propositioned#by a beautiful woman who he has a lot of personal chemistry with#and ask if they think he's dtf... no one in their right might would say yes#madamoftime

So happy to see someone else who watched The Society! I feel like the only one! I originally watched it because I kept seeing gifs of Sam and Grizz but then I ended up really liking the show. I agree some parts were kinda slow but I still loved it! Plus it seems Netflix has noticed how beloved Grizz (they posted an entire video dedicated to him) is to the fans so I’m fairly positive he’ll be a main for the next season if we get one!
I saw Netflix on ig and Twitter taking notice of the love for Grizz so I do hope if it gets renewed (it needs to, clearly there are still so many stories to tell here, loose ends and plot holes), he will have a bigger role. #GrizzForMayor

kathryn is so good in the society! allie is such an awesome character, she’s so complex. poor elle broke my heart in every scene and kelly’s arc from the quiet girlfriend to saving lives and delivering babies was epic, although i’m not really a fan of pregnancy / baby plot lines in general. i really hope there’s a season two. it looks like grizz would be team allie. and campbell is vile, but the actor is really good, so i think there’s potential for great scenes between him and allie.
I loved her character and how she played her, it really did feel like watching a teenager with how bratty she could get at times with Cassandra in the beginning, but she also showed real maturity with time. Kathryn is amazing. My girl is growing up :’) I LOVE Elle’s character, what a complex, heartbreaking situation. I believed at first Campbell was just a jerk but then I thought “holy fuck that guy is a psychopath” and scolded myself for thinking like that but then turned out he actually is??? And nobody thought to check on Elle for months and left her with him?? The actor is so good it’s terrifying. Not a huge fan of Becca but that’s mainly due to the baby storyline, I’m always meh about pregnancies as plot devices too but Kelly was epic like you said. Don’t know if it’s realistic but her evolution didn’t feel far stretched to me. I don’t want to feel anything for Harry but I think I actually pity him. I was bored with Helena and the Guard boys, I don’t even remember their names whoops
-
As a deaf lesbian, I literally cried when Sam was introduced. I never see representation, and if a show has a deaf character, theyre almost always played by a hearing person, so a real deaf person playing a deaf character AND it not being his Defining Trait is so important I cant express it enough. No matter how bad the show gets, ill watch it as long as they keep Sam.
Ahh this makes me so happy for you! The only completely deaf characters on TV I can think of at the top of my head that were played by deaf actors are Bonnie in Jericho, Eileen in Supernatual, and Megan in Weeds and all three were played by Shoshannah Stern, which, as good as it is for her (and for me ‘cause I love her), it’s sad there aren’t any more deaf actors casted and even worse is that I can count the characters on one hand. Sam is not defined by this and he is not defined by his sexuality either though both are featured as important parts of his identity in the show and that made me so so so happy to see. We don’t get enough of this. Representation matters
–
(putting all these together otherwise this is quickly going to turn into a The Society blog lmao)

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
We have lgbtq+ characters AND deaf characters being on tv now!! (Ok we probably did before but they weren’t out! Or I’m blind and didn’t catch it! Send me lgbtq+ tv shows and lgbtq books.. or just anything lgbtq+!)
Nyle Dimarco on Station 19. Where to begin? The model turned dancer to actor is fluid with his sexuality. .. yes he is deaf too. So in 2 x 17 he guess stars on Station 19 and catches the eye of the gay character. Btw I already loved Nyle before this episode and now I have a new ship .. him and Travis. Also Nyle said ‘DID YOU KNOW there are about 50 certified deaf firefighters in the United States??‘ Like wow!! I hope we get to see more of his character. I want Travis happy and he looks happy with you.
Switched at Birth has many deaf characters. I did learn American Sign Language with the help of this show.. I’m so happy I did. One character is Natalie Pierce played by (yes also deaf) Stephanie Nogueras. From googling around it seems like she is like off the grid. I couldn’t find anything on her. Other then her role on SAB and a picture of her with cats.
New Amsterdam is a roller coaster of emotions for a show. I knew ASL before watching this show yet sadly I’m not 100% fluent but I did pick up on some of what Lauren Ridloff was signing in some of her scenes on 1 x 19. Her character was struggling with hearing for the first time and her quote was beautiful. I couldn’t find if she was lesbian and the girl who plays Tori I couldn’t find anything on her. All I did find though was that Lauren is deaf and that she played the role beautiful.
How come I forgot one of my favorite deaf actress when she played a lesbian??? She isn’t lesbian in real life but she is a huge supporter of the lgbtq+. Ahh ok here is Marlee Matlin. She played a lesbian on The L Word and her character name was Jodi Lerner. She was a deaf sculpture I feel like I was the only one who liked her with Bette. Before Bette left her cheated on her to get back with her ex.
Last but not least and yes there is plenty of more lgbtq+ and deaf characters.. but last I can think of top of my head is Eileen Leahy played by Shoshannah Stern on Supernatural. Yes it wasn’t confirmed she was lgbtq+ but part of me when I watched her thought she could be bisexual. Or something not straight. Yes this post is about lgbtq+ and deaf characters but I had to add her. She is amazing character and actress. The actress herself is married to a man but her character Eileen I could see with Sam or a women.

Supernatural Season 15 Episode 14: Last Holiday Review
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
WARNING: This Supernatural review contains SPOILERS!
Supernatural Season 15 Episode 14
The Final Countdown Begins. Supernatural is back, baby, and there are only seven episodes left until the end.
The previous episode of Supernatural aired all the way back on March 23, 2020. A little over six months later, the highly anticipated fifteenth season continues with “Last Holiday,” a mostly light hearted affair—and very nearly a bottle episode—that brings the boys out of quarantine and back into our lives.
We discussed the meaning of a “bottle episode” as evidenced so brilliantly in the episode “Baby,” a Season 11 highlight that cleverly told a story centered around the titular ‘67 Impala. A bottle episode restricts the number of actors, sets, and other production essentials in order to make a cheaper standalone piece. “Baby” was a bottle episode because it was set only in the Impala. “Last Holiday” primarily restricts our characters to the bunker, save for a few hilarious cutaways showing the boys kicking down monster’s doors with more and more force, and the simple mentioning of Sam’s date with Eileen. We never get to see Eileen or the date itself, but it makes sense. That scene was not necessary, though it would be nice to see Shoshannah Stern once more before the series ends.
Ever since television productions ground to a halt earlier this year, shows like Supernatural who were lucky enough to return to production rather than being cancelled had new challenges to face. COVID-19 compliance for television productions require certain changes in how a production runs, notably how many people can be in the same vicinity. How then does a season planned pre-pandemic carry on while following such guidelines?
Showrunner Andrew Dabb in an interview with TV Line said that some small tweaks and changes had to occur for the remaining episodes this season, including streamlining scenes to feature less characters. It is likely the rest of the episodes will not be as bottled as “Last Holiday,” but that does lead to speculation on how scaled down the finale might be. Dabb indicated though that in terms of plot and character, nothing was fundamentally changed. That raw, emotional ending is still coming for all Supernatural fans.
The episode tonight was a delightful return, with numerous fun gags as Dean, Sam, and Jack interact with their new bunker guest Ms. Butters. This led to a couple of wardrobe and prop related gags that are fun at first, and gain new meaning as they callback to season’s past.
Dean’s robe in this episode is a direct callback to his nightgown on “Scoobynatural,” a purplish affair with a slit on the side, V-neck, and long trailing hat with a puffball end. You might also have noticed that in Dean’s “underthings” are a pair of boxers featuring Scooby and Shaggy. The writers of this show have always been keen to give fans something to latch onto, and this item of wardrobe will not be the last.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
We might also note that Sam wields Mjolnir in the last in a series of monster hunts while Dean brandishes an automatic weapon reminiscent of the time of fast-talking gangster movies. Thor’s hammer last appeared in Season 8, semingingly falling out of the Winchester’s possession. It was discovered amongst Cuthbert Sinclair’s treasures in the Season 9 episode “Blade Runners.” It’s a blink-and-you-miss-it production design detail hidden amongst the other objects. The moment that corroborates this detail? The Road So Far intro that mentions Cuthbert Sinclair. They set this joke up on purpose. It’s no coincidence that this psycho Man of Letters who kept a personal zoo of monsters in his collection was mentioned here, and it’s not just due to Ms. Butters being kept in the bunker for over 50 years like the monsters in his zoo. This is definitely the season for eagle-eyed viewers. Fans should expect more little inside jokes like the Scooby Doo references and the random props from other seasons as the final episodes tick away.
Meagan Fay wonderfully portrayed the equal parts delightful and slightly creepy wood nymph Ms. Butters. She can be likened to being part wholesome Mary Poppins, part snappy Candy from Wonder Woman and maybe a smidge Mommie Dearest. The way she prances around displaying her Christmas cookies, causing Dean to get that school boy grin and declare they were keeping her around was so disarming. Doesn’t everyone need such a ball of positivity in their lives when they go to fight their monsters? Asking for a friend.
Equally disarming were the quips thrown in here and there. When Ms. Butter’s tone darkens as she sees Jack and asks “What are you?” Dean arrives just in time with “He’s a Millennial! Don’t let that throw you, he’s a good kid.” The second best line of the episode though went to Sam, who told his brother as if he’s done it a thousand times, “Ignoring your trauma doesn’t make you healthy.” Wise words for all.
Also poignant was the moment where Butters declares she needs to make the bunker safe again. It should more accurately be written Make Bunker Safe Again, as she goes on to describe destroying all the monsters in the world. The real-world jabs here can be felt.
Butters seeking to help rid the world of monsters also makes commentary on exclusionary practices, especially when it comes to this wood nymph, technically a monster herself, being forced to jump on the Men of Letters’ monster-hunting bandwagon. As Supernatural has brilliantly displayed before — not all monsters are actually bad, and Butters is simply a wood nymph led astray by those she considered her family.
This episode cantered along at a good pace, with the quick cut comedic timing that reminded us this was a funny episode, with the sprinkling of darkness that solidified it was still Supernatural returning for an ending that awaits around the corner.
Are the general good vibes of the episode just due to Miss Butter’s influence on the boys lives— packing them bag lunches, prepping their hunts, worrying about their wellbeing like a certain missing maternal figure—or is it also due to the long wait and the bittersweet march towards the end? In any case, this reviewer found a smile on her face throughout the episode.
Despite Miss Butters’ turn towards the homicidal, the Winchesters and Jack were certainly affected by her more positive influences. Dean in fact, has to retrain himself to curse, becoming furious with himself when he accidentally belts out “Dangit!” instead of “Damnit!” On the other hand, the opportunity to kick back and enjoy life has certainly given the boys a little more to fight for, and perhaps the smallest reward for saving people and hunting things for their whole lives.
Butters does bring up a possible story point for later—that of the Interdimensional Geoscope, the unexplained telescope we’ve seen in the Men of Letters bunker all this time. Dean says he looked in it and didn’t say anything, and Butters explained that wasn’t good. Was this reference the only purpose for this ‘scope? To point out that the other dimensions are gone? Has Chuck finished his destruction of the multiverse? I’d like to argue that this device will become important again, but it could still play out to be an offhand remark to tune us back into the seriousness of the situation at hand. Jack has to kill God and Amara to save the world. That’s a big job.
So here’s counting down to the final six episodes. The series finale is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19 as part of a two hour event on the CW. The CW will air Supernatural: The Long Road Home retrospective special prior to the final episode.

SPN Season 15 Spoiler Sheet, update 9/12
I waited until filming was over to post. Hopefully we will get some interviews in this next month before the show starts airing again. We also usually get episode an synopsis two weeks before airing and photos one week before airing, on Fridays.
(Implies logistics- lots of returning people?) PRE COVID SPOILER This no longer seems to be the case.
There will be a special tribute ep airing the same day as the finale
Misha will be in 15 out of 20 episodes this season (he’s missed 3 so far and I suspect will miss 14. Not sure about 16, unclear about 19/20).
Cas’ deal with the Empty may come up later in the season.
Jack will be a critical part of the ending of the show
Dean and Amara’s connection will be explored
There will be a bunker themed episode (MarySue article)- episode 14
Unclear as to the validity, could be from 19 based on the casting.
There will be a flashback episode
Charlie (original flavor) will return
Filming will resume on Aug 18th. Per Canadian policy, they must quarantine for two weeks. Those quarantining seems to include:
Fairly Clear: Jared, Jensen, Jake Abel (Micheal), Rob Benedict (Chuck/God) Mark Pelligrino (Lucifer), Al Cal (didn't need to quarantine, but he is definitely on set), Jim Beaver (Bobby)
Unclear/Rumored: Misha (he is being deliberately cagey), Osric Chau (Kevin- but likely for another project, he was a week ahead of everyone else)
Reasons Unlikely: Sam Smith (chemo treatment), Kim Rhodes (working at a camp during quarantine), Ruth Connell (she kept posting from Malibu the whole time)
No idea: Shoshannah Stern
He was at home on the last day of filming.
Ghose Dean?

Other Spoilers/info:
Production shut down as a precaution for coronavirus on 3/13, two days into filming. It is scheduled to start again on Aug 18th.
Jensen indicated there might be some re-writes for this ep to account for COVID protocols.
When they started filming, they indicated they were on day two. So maybe they could only use some of the scenes they shot? Then they added an extra day all called it day 9. COVID protocols makes things take longer
AlCal was definitely on set.
Jake Abel is definitely on set, and he posted an instagram story with his trailer and Lucifer’s (Mark Pelligrino)
Some filming was done at a gas station called Showalter’s (name of the director) with Jared, Jensen, and Alex
Jake “Spoiler King” Abel filmed a video showing chairs for Jared, Jensen, and Alex as well as Rob Benedict (Chuck/God). They were filming near a lake with a mountain view (that looked similar to where Cas died in season 13)
Rob Benedict posted it was his last day in Vancouver, indicating we won't see Chuck past this episode? Or very very briefly in 20? Jake Abel posted a similar message, also baiting fans about Misha’s whereabouts
Scene “28” took several days and seemed to go across both 19 and 20? So they might have done some combo filming?
Episode 15x20

Other Spoilers/info:
Misha is in the final scene, per pre COVID interviews. I think this changed after COVID.
Jensen indicated filming would take two weeks, longer than usual (looks like a 9 day shoot, with a day off for Labor Day)
According to Superwiki, 9/3 was the last day on the bunker set, the final days are on location.
Scene “28” took several days and seemed to go across both 19 and 20? So they might have done some combo filming?
Filming locations seemed to include a barn (pic with a stunt guy showed wooden walls and straw) and a lake (not the mountain lake from 19). Filming signs spotted at Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.
Jim Beaver confirmed his appearance on Twitter
There was a pic of J2 with baby on a bridge. Baby had her original plates. They seem to be wearing the same clothes they were in the pilot. There may be grey (??) In their hair, but that could be lighting
Misha posted some creation videos, saying he had been on an impromptu camping trip. He was back in his house. They were posted on the last day of filming and he had pretty decent scruff. He also mentioned that is was the last day of filming and he wasn't up there.
The show officially wrapped at 6:25 on 9/10

SPN Season 15 Spoiler Sheet Update 10/19
I put the general spoilers at the end because it was bogging the whole thing down, so if you are looking for those, keep scrolling.

Alex got a cast of his face around the filming of this- so this ep or the one after
They filmed at Rooster’s Sunrise Hotel for 3 days/nights
From TVLine- “It worked not only as a case right now, but also as something that informed the journey Sam and Dean have taken, where they started as kids, how they kind of came together and then how that has [led up] to the point that they are, emotionally, when the episode airs. So it ended up being a really good reflection of our guys now, telling a story about our guys then, which, to me, are always the best versions of those types of flashback stories.”
From EW- "We see the case that kind of brought them together as hunters," Dabb says of the episode, "the first case young Sam and young Dean worked together to a conclusion."
Episode 15x17

Other Spoilers/info:
Misha and Alex filmed near the impala. J2 showed up later that night. This was the source of the “last time they all filmed on set” photo
A really emotional scene was filmed with Misha and Jensen. Jared was definitely not there, but Alex was on the flight they took with Rich, so its possible he was too. This was revealed at a con in which the four of them were on a plane that had an in-flight problem.
Filming watchers saw a bro hug
Tape Ball posted a shot of field that looks like where dean came back from hell
Misha indicated this was his “favorite episode” in a recent interview
From EW- Ackles, having recently done ADR on episode 18, says he had forgotten how "monumental" the hour is.

Sneak Peak:
Castiel ? unknown Jack ? yes
Guest stars: Jake Abel (Micheal), Mark Pelligrino (Lucifer)
Other Spoilers/info:
Production shut down as a precaution for coronavirus on 3/13, two days into filming. It is scheduled to start again on Aug 18th.
Jensen indicated there might be some re-writes for this ep to account for COVID protocols.
When they started filming, they indicated they were on day two. So maybe they could only use some of the scenes they shot? Then they added an extra day all called it day 9. COVID protocols makes things take longer
AlCal was definitely on set.
Jake Abel was definitely on set, and he posted an instagram story with his trailer and Lucifer’s (Mark Pelligrino)
Title: Carry On
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
Written by: Dabb
Director: Bob Singer
Filming Dates: 8/28- 9/10
Airdate: November 19th
Photos:

Sneak Peak:
Castiel ? maaaaybe? Jack ? maaaaybe?
Guest stars: Jim Beaver
Other Spoilers/info:
Jensen indicated filming would take two weeks, longer than usual (looks like a 9 day shoot, with a day off for Labor Day)
According to Superwiki, 9/3 was the last day on the bunker set, the final days are on location.
Scene “28” took several days and seemed to go across both 19 and 20? So they might have done some combo filming?
Filming locations seemed to include a barn (pic with a stunt guy showed wooden walls and straw) and a lake (not the mountain lake from 19), and a forest.
He also mentioned that it was the last day of filming and he wasn't up there.
The show officially wrapped at 6:25 on 9/10
Jared said “the last time Sam and Dean see each other is the last time Jared and Jensen film together” but seem to imply that was not the final scene? It was a confusing answer to a question about filming the final scene.
IMDB credits a vampire?
General Info (oldest to newest). This is a blend of pre-COVID and post COVID, so some might change.
Misha will be in 15 out of 20 episodes this season (he’s missed 4 so far. Unclear about 16, 19, and 20).
JaxCon/Vegas Con spoilers:
Misha said the ending was “happier than he expected” but also had some sadness. He later used “sad and redemptive”
Dean says the line “stop killing my people” (to god?)
Jensen said he doesn’t see how the story could continue past this season, but Jared said its more of “a see you later” (in more recent interviews, Dabb seems to shut that down completely)
Al Cal posted a pic of a “thrown away” call sheet that seems to indicate Micheal, Lucifer, and a character named “Betty” interacting in the bunker. Unclear as to the validity, could be from 19 based on casting
Charlie (original flavor) will return
Filming resumed on Aug 18th. Per Canadian policy, they must quarantine for two weeks. Those quarantining seemed to include:
Fairly Clear: Jared, Jensen, Jake Abel (Micheal), Rob Benedict (Chuck/God) Mark Pelligrino (Lucifer), Al Cal (didn't need to quarantine, but he is definitely on set), Jim Beaver (Bobby)
Unclear/Rumored: Misha (he is being deliberately cagey), Osric Chau (Kevin- but likely for another project, he was a week ahead of everyone else)
Reasons Unlikely: Sam Smith (chemo treatment), Kim Rhodes (working at a camp during quarantine), Ruth Connell (posted from Malibu the entire time)
No idea: Shoshannah Stern
Jensen said sp 19 is more of a season finale, while 20 is a series finale. Repeated in interviews/livestreams.
Jensen indicated that the ending did change per COVID protocols. Later interviews confirmed this, but it seemed to indicate the changes were in regards to how many people filmed at once (crowd scenes, recurring characters returning)
Misha is being very, very cagey about where he was.
His latest line is “sad but satisfying”
The finale will air Nov 19th in conjunction with an hour long special.
Dabb confirmed to TV line the episode 19/20 explanation Jensen’s mentioned- For the most part, we wrap up a big chunk of our mythology in Episode 19,Episode 20 is more character-based and is more concerned with Sam, Dean and this family they’ve built around them than it is with figuring out the Case of the Week.
When talking about the lightheartedness of returning on ep 14, Dabb said deeply depressing and upsetting episodes are coming (USAToday). He also said we would see “new sides” of Jack, Cas, and Billie. A revisit of Chuck and Amara’s “sibling issues” as well is on tap. Jared said sacrifices are coming.
From TV Line- re the battle with Chuck. Allies will return, but was repeated several times in the article that is comes down to Sam and Dean. Jack will struggle with getting his soul back but will be helped by Cas.
It was confirmed there will be no appearances by mamma and papa Winchester, possible due to COVID. (TVLine).
According to ET there will be lots of “Easter Eggs” in the finale from early episodes. TV Line furthered that by Jared confirming Sam and Dean “in the way they began”
One singular interview asked about Cas and Jack (SyFy) and we got this “Cas has had a very long evolution on this show, but an evolution to an emotionally healthy place, which is generally speaking not something we do a ton. It means someone is at least emotionally healthy on this show.” Jack will be dealing with having a soul and the mistakes he made, particularly Mary.
