Everyone told you it wasn't possible, the relationship would never last. Maybe they're right and you're just too stubborn to listen, clinging onto what could already be falling apart at the seams. But none of that matters right now. Minjeong—er, Winter is going on stage soon and you want to show your support without worrying her.

You knock on the door, carrying plastic bags full of snacks for the girls. Their manager warned you about their diets, but a little snack before performing never hurt anyone. At least, you hope not.

"Baby!" The door swings open, revealing Winter's ecstatic look as she runs to you, arms wide open. As you swing her around in your embrace, the two of you giggling like schoolchildren, you're reminded all at once why you put so much effort to be here in the first place.

"Hello, my love," you say, smiling from ear to ear. "You look gorgeous."

"Thank you." She plants a delicate kiss onto your cheek, spreading her warmth to your entire body. "Our makeup artist did such a good job, didn't she?"

"I doubt she'd have a hard time making you look beautiful," you quip, earning a playful slap on your shoulder. "Oh, I stopped by the store on my way here and got some snacks for you and your friends. I don't know what they like, so I just got one of everything."

"Aww, that's very sweet of you. Come inside, I'm sure the girls will want to meet you!"

Winter pulls you into the green room, which you can only describe as "organized chaos" as an array of staff members run around doing their jobs while the rest of her members goof off on the couches. Despite there only being three of them, they somehow manage to stay the loudest in the room with their cackling laughter amidst the hum of last-minute preparations.

"Guys!" Winter calls out to them, grabbing their attention. "My boyfriend is here with some snacks!"

"H-hello." You awkwardly wave at them as they get up to greet you. Even though you've talked to them in passing while on Facetime with Winter, you can't help but feel a little starstruck at meeting celebrities in person. On top of that, their intricate stage outfits and fierce makeup looks only made them look more intimdating.

"Wah, thank you!" Karina says, taking the bags from your hands and placing them on the table. "I need something sweet before we go up on stage."

"Winter, your boyfriend should play mafia with us!" NingNing suggests. Winter hops with excitement while you offer her a quizzical look.

"Uh, what's mafia?" You ask.

"It's a fun game we like to play while we wait. C'mon, I'll tell you the rules."

"Oh, uh, I don't know, I'm not really good at these kinds of things," you shyly admit. She cups your face gently, calming your nerves with a simple look. You're supposed to be the one calming her down before she has to perform, yet here you are, getting all nervous about a silly game with her friends.

"It's okay, baby. It'll be fun, I promise," she soothes.

"Yeah, we don't bite," Giselle adds, smirking. "Maybe Karina might- Ow!"

"Yah!" The two get into lighthearted cat fight, spiraling into even more laughter from NingNing who watches from a safe distance.

"Maybe I should sit this one out," you joke. With a grin, Winter pulls you towards the couches, adamant that you join in on the fun.

At most, you probably spent 20 minutes with them, playing and joking around like you're children at a playground and not full grown adults jobs and responsibilities. Yet somehow, it feels like hours pass by in a blink of an eye. Even if you can't see each other often, it's comforting to know that Winter is surrounded by such great friends. Like all good things, this too must come to an end.

"Girls, be on standby! The concert is starting soon," their manager announces, earning a wave of disappointment from them. Even you feel a little bad about having to end the fun already.

"You'll be watching, right?" Winter asks while the rest of them get ready.

"Of course, my love," you assure her. "I'll be front and center, cheering you on louder than everybody there."

She giggles, blessing your cheek with a kiss. "Give some cheers to the rest of the girls too, it's not a solo concert y'know."

"Hmm, maybe I can give them a shout or too," you quip, earning an overdramatic glare from the rest of the girls. You chuckle awkwardly, offering a supportive thumbs up.

Winter holds your face with a gentle touch, tracing your face with longing. You know what that look means. Your heart breaks every time you have to see it.

"We'll get dinner after the concert, okay? Just you and me," you say softly.

She sighs, wrapping you up in a warm embrace. "I wish we could do more than just dinner. I wish I could stay with you forever."

You blink away the tears building in your eyes. No point in trying to make her feel worse. "Me too," is all you can utter without giving away the cracks in your voice.

"Winter," her manager says. "We have to go. The people are waiting."

She breaks away from you slightly before capturing your lips in a tender, heartbreaking kiss. It's brief and fleeting, yet the velvety feeling of her lips stays imprinted in your mind like a fond memory. She gives you a brief smile before following her members out the door, waving at you right as it shuts behind her.

Goodbyes are always the hardest, especially when you don't know the next time you'll get to see her, but you know in your heart that you'll reconvene like no time has passed at all. You'll get to see that smile and hear that laugh again, that same one you've adored for years. This love may be difficult and exhausting and downright painful at times, but nothing in this world is more gratifying than being the one to hold her heart. Despite the odds, you'll do anything and everything to protect her.

Hey, I started reading Robin son of Batman because of your recommendation (I literally have a print of your post on my phone to not forget lol). Honestly? One of the best things I ever read!!!

Thank you for opening my eyes! Damian has been one of my favorite characters for over a year, but I didn't read/watch much of him because of school, life (and probably an executive dysfunction in the mix).

Maya is incredible. I loved her.

"A Smile As Shy As The Sun Peeking Through The Leaves" Cain SSR Story - The Most Reassuring Of Them All

Cain and I were investigating the petal-covered interior of Foster Laboratory together.

Akira: Well, we're pretty much as deep into this place as we can get.

Cain: Yeah. We haven't found any clues yet, so it'd be great if we could find one in here, but the chances of that are…

Cain & Akira: …!

Akira: Did you just hear something from that room? Maybe it's Mister Angelo…?

Cain: I'll check it out. Stay behind me, Master Sage.

Cain eased open the door with a deadly serious expression on his face, and I saw…something slither away from the door and into the heavy darkness of the room.

Akira: Eek…?! Wh-what was that?!

Cain: Ugh, gross!! It's like a snake nest in there.

What was slithering inside that room, you ask? Thousands of slippery, slimy tentacles, dripping with some thick, purple liquid. Just looking at them squirming over each other was making my skin crawl. Exactly like Cain said, it looked like a massive snake nest. Cain's face was scrunched up in an expression of pure disgust, but he still diligently looked the room over.

Cain: …I can't sense anyone inside here. Investigation officially over, time to lock this back up!

Akira: Okay…wah!!

The moment Cain tried to close the door, the tentacles snapped into motion and started reaching for us.

Akira: Waaugh?!

Cain: Master Sage!

Cain grabbed my arm and pulled me back before stepping in front of me and drawing his sword, all in a single smooth movement. And then, a calm, relaxed voice floated over to us.

Shylock: Oh my. What an unusual playmate you've found for yourselves.

Akira: Shylock!

Cain: Good timing! Shylock, can you take the Sage and…

Shylock: No, no. You stand back too, dear. That sword of yours is far too delectable a morsel.

Cain: Huh?

Shylock tugged a still-confused Cain behind him before tossing…what looked like a coin into the room, towards those icky feelers. They all changed targets immediately, descending on the coin, and…the metal immediately began to melt.

Akira: Woah…?!

The coin dissolved into nothing, and the feelers slithered away from the door, seeming satisfied with what they'd gotten.

Shylock: That's a rare type of plant that subsists off metal. As you just saw, the purple mucilage traps and breaks down any metal it gets onto, digesting it. It'd love to do the same to that blade of yours, Cain.

Cain: Gotcha… So what you're saying is I almost fed them. Thanks, Shylock. It's a good thing you showed up when you did.

Cain sheathed his sword, still nice and un-digested. He scratched his cheek, looking bashful, and gave a wry smile.

Cain: I guess as a wizard, I really do need to learn to stand back and observe before jumping into a fight. Too bad I've still got my knight training as second nature, which says to jump in with my sword at the ready.

Akira: Yeah, I can't imagine a standard knight would be going up against an icky plant that can eat their sword…

Cain: But that's where we're at now. So, Shylock. Would you be willing to join us while we finish our investigation of the lab? I want to learn more about how a wizard's supposed to fight from you.

Shylock: Oh, my. You'd like to watch my back? I'm honored.

And so we continued our investigation with the ever-reassuring Shylock at our side. …Or, at least, that was the intention…

Akira: Eeek…! These flowers caught me!

Cain: Master Sage! Hold on, I'll get you loose right awa…ow! Did that flower just bite me?!

Shylock: Yes, these would be puppyblossoms. Here, give them a little scratch behind this bit that looks like a dog's ears and they'll settle down just like that.

Cain: …Alright, let's open you up… Gwoah?! Cough…!

Akira: Cain! Are you okay?! The color of that powder's really worrying…!

Cain: Yeah, I'm…uh? My vision's kinda…

Shylock: This would be…oh, you poor thing. I've heard the spores of this mushroom improve your visual acuity to the point you can see the reverse side of the world.

Akira: It makes your eyesight better?

Shylock: Yes, by about 3,000%. Perhaps you'll see something that you shouldn't…or perhaps not…

Cain: Hey, I see something weird over there…um, is that supposed to have two heads…?

Akira: (It took him all of half a second to see something he shouldn't…!!)

Shylock: My apologies, it's rather difficult to clear this one up without a properly trained physician. It'll go away on its own given enough time, so I'll cast a spell to blindfold you until then.

Akira: There's…so many plants… Cain, are you okay?

Cain: Yep. I bandaged the puppyblossom bite, and my eyesight's gone back to normal. Thanks, Shylock. I was right on the money that I'd be able to learn a lot from having you come with us. This is really different from going up against an armed human. It really is important to take a step back first when things are looking dicey…

Akira: (He's being so earnest about it…)

Shylock: Ufufu. That said, I am quite fond of you and the way you leap out like a little lion cub.

Cain: Man, don't butter me up like that. Praise from you will make me go, "Welp, better stay the way I am, then!"

Cain grinned to show he wasn't being serious in the slightest, but just then--

Shylock: …

Shylock's gaze suddenly sharpened to a point, settling on the door…right next to me. Cain looked where Shylock was staring, and his expression hardened a little.

Cain: …What is that? I can feel some kind of weird presence…

Shylock: Let us have a look, shall we? Sage, be sure to stay back. Cain, make sure the Sage stays back.

Shylock placed his hand on the doorknob and slowly, slowly, opened the door.

Akira: …Huh? More flowers?

Within was a single pot with a single red flower growing from its soil. It didn't try to bite us or scatter spores on us or anything.

Akira: (So why do I feel so…) (There's nothing sad about this, so why do I feel like I could cry and cry and cry…)

My vision was blurred by tears almost instantly. I started sobbing, my heart wracked with sadness, and I didn't know why.

Akira: U-umm… Shylock… Cain… Is th-- Is that flower…

Shylock: …

Akira: Sh--Shylock?!

Shylock's face had twisted with grief, one hand hiding his mouth.

Akira: (Something's wrong with Shylock! Ohhhh, what do I do, I want to cry, what do I do…)

Cain: It's okay, Master Sage.

Just as I felt myself getting worked into a panic, I felt something warm on my shoulder, and I jerked my head to see what it was. But it was just Cain, his gaze level. His strong yet kind eyes made my head, full and heavy with grief and confusion, suddenly feel a little bit clearer.

And with that, he turned back to the red flower. He stepped forward, and there was nary a hint of hesitation in his movements.

Cain: Yeah. I'm glad the two of you seem to be okay now, too.

Akira: Yes, because of what you did… Thank you so much. But, um, this isn't going to turn out to melt your brain or anything later, right?

Shylock: No, the flower has no effect while not in bloom. This is a lamentation lily. They bloom from corpses that met with a terrible fate, and their blooming is accompanied by a powerful aura of grief.

Cain: Huh, so there's a kind of flower that does that. I mean, I felt something weird too, but… I guess I'm just resistant to its effects for some reason, at least compared to you two. So I figured if anyone was gonna do anything, it had to be me.

His reliable smile and the warmth of his hands chased away the gloom the flower had guided into my heart. I can only imagine how many people have been saved by his gallantry. Shylock and I glanced at one another, and then we both smiled at him--our hero of the moment.

Akira: It really, really was!

Training Episode - How To Choose A Flower

Akira: That lab we were at, Foster Laboratory, sure was full of strange plants.

Cain: For real. I've been a lot of places on military campaigns, and there were still nothing but plants I'd never seen before in there. Gathering them all up to study the weeping peacock flower was a real labor of love.

Okay so. I call it the '6 years later' AU but technically i have Stuff Planned for all the time that passed between now and then too, so this'll be a bit longer, sorry!!

Max joining the counselor team was actually kind of a natural/gradual development?? Basically, since I can't make CC content that isn't found family Max has a shit home life, and, even if he hates to admit it at first, the three months of summer camp become his bright spot each year. David and Gwen catch on to that, but there isn't much they can do to help outside of camp - until one day Max (age 13/14ish) shows up on Gwen's doorstep because he ran away from home, 'since his parents won't care either way'. While he does return home after hiding out at Gwen's place for a weekend, this kind of kicks off a pattern of Max running away sporadically, to Gwen's, later David's, or his friends places. I could go into more detail here but. this is already long. oop.

ANYWAYS. So with Max spending basically all the time he can away from home and the summers at camp, once he ages out there's. A Bit of panic starting in him once summer gets closer again, because his Safe Place seems inaccessible, and two of his OTHER options, especially for longer stays away from home, would also be unavailable. Gwen and David notice this (it manifests in Max staying over More but Angrier) and try to find a solution. Gwen proposes the Jr Counselor idea. They introduce the idea to Max by kinda implying that workload around camp is a lot, and it'd really hurt to miss one of their most experienced campers, but... maybe, if he worked there too (well, interned. basically unpaid. but! no camp tuition!) he could help them? so they basically give Max a way to say yes without admitting that he's the one who needs camp the most. He does insult the whole thing ofc, and says like he's just doing it because he knows camp would burn down without him there ("actually, most of the fires we had were started by you...?" "shut it, david") but secretly he's really really happy. He might even thank them later that evening. Quietly. Before complaining about it preemptively. <3

While most of the other campers had some rotations over the years, I don't have conk rete plans for most of them - Nikki and Neil are still Max' gang, and returned for multiple summers, if not all. This year though, Neil is busy with college prep, and Nikki is spending the summer at home because of family crisis. They still video call a lot, they're still The Gang. I have sketched designs for them, but I'm not quite happy yet.

Max at first doesn't take his role seriously, because he's basically just Back For Another Summer, but pretty quickly realises Gwen and David DO have expectations, and DO give him responsibilities. He takes a while to come around on his new relationship to the younger kids, and especially one of the youngest kids takes a liking to him, a very anxious young girl, which annoys him at first, but... well. It's a whole ~character arc~ for Max waiting to happen tbh.

My advice would be: be patient with yourself. Consider what others have to say, but trust your own instincts. Be honest with yourself. (I've known several Lokeans, myself included, to get that instruction -- even if you lie to everyone else, don't lie to yourself.) If you make a promise, keep it, and if you can't, apologize and ask to be released from it. Be prepared for changes, and be prepared to make changes yourself.

I can tell you how I first approached Loki, if it helps. I went to a quiet place outside with a candle (and maybe some incense? I can't remember now) and an offering, in this case cider. I lit my candle, opened the bottle of cider and placed it across from me. (I was at a picnic table.) I said something like, "Loki, you are welcome to join me at my table and share this cider with me." I stared at the flame of my candle until everything else kind of faded from my awareness and sort of thought at him until I felt that a presence had arrived. And then I had what I would call a conversation with him, although to be clear I should point out that I don't audibly hear him. It's more like ... if someone you know well makes a gesture, and you can tell just from that the entire statement they were implying. Or old Peanuts cartoons, where the audience hears the teacher saying "Wah wah waaah!" But the characters understand her. Likewise, with time, you get the hang of interpreting these feelings from gods. Or there's always divination.

Anyway, the gist of the conversation was what I wanted his help with, and what I could offer in return. (You are allowed to negotiate.) I was surprised how kind he felt. But I was looking for help with my suffering, and Loki is a god who understands suffering, so I suppose it makes sense.

As for offerings, several people find Loki likes strong, often sweet flaors. Chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon are popular. I told this story somewhere recently, might have been here, but early in my association with Loki, I was sharing everything I ate with him, and without putting much thought into it, I offered this kind of measly salad. Then I started wondering if maybe it had been an unworthy offering. The feeling I got back felt like there was a time fresh vegetables this time of year would be a miracle. So far I've found any offering made in good faith, Loki will receive graciously. (Or at least politely decline.) Even a simple drink of clean water is an acceptable offering for most gods and spirits.

she is a cleric of kelemvor and sacrificial survivor of a myrkul death cult. she escaped nearly dying at the age of 7 bc kelemvor saved her from near death.

she is not from baldurs gate!! she is from the outskirts of omorath but after escaping she lives on the streets.

the second time kelemvor comes to get her (nearly died in an alley) she becomes a cleric and returns to the city. joins the tower of skulls in omorath and does most of her work taking care of the diseased and guiding people in the fugue plane.

a Doomguide and part of a doom clergy.

she is originally darker skinned / tan but turns grey using her powers. when she blushes she becomes her original color lol

she ends up closer to baldurs gate on pilgrimage. she meets marisol (lambs oc) her best friend there.

she is a cleric of kelemvor, the god or judge of death. she tends to wear like a plague doctor sort of uniform and is very attached to a necklace she has that she prays over!! in general she prefers to be covered because she normally is response for helping the diseased as well as the deceased.

always wearing gloves for the same reason ^ special gloves that she has with her even after the kidnapping on the ship.

her personality is very blunt 😭and straightforward but never mean. she is just super direct and a little clueless about social cues... VERY HONEST LOL.

her main story arc is around her parents! like i mentioned she is a cleric of kelemvor but she spent her childhood in a death cult. in act one she hears rumor of a tiefling couple who worshipped myrkul being seen kidnapped on the towers to moonrise. in act two, her major scene, you have the choice on whether or not to kill or rescue her parents.

soulikha as a character puts her duty as a cleric above all else, even herself. she never expresses her feelings, never complains, just does as she believes is of expected to her. it gives her identity. up until this point, it's very rare to see her break down. this is the first scene where she makes a decision for herself

she also believes part of her job is assuring the people suffering die with the dignity and honor they deserve. part of this is because of her upbringing.

she also believes admantly in people dying when they are supposed to. as a cleric of kelemvor with particular favor of her god, she can hear whispers and regrets of death. the shadowfell lands are hard on her.

her main romance partner is karlach

her main romance with karlach has to do with touch and intimacy.

soulikha normally has her face covered and her body so if she were an origin and romance companion chara they'd be surrounding them but in her story she is dating karlach

karlach is soulikhas first love. they are tragic to me. soulikha is constantly telling karlach it's not her time and they often talk about death. she has a line to karlach:

"i will be there. when your soul burns brightest in the fugue plane, i will lead you. till the end of your life and in mine. my hand will find you. you will know its me."

she is shorter than karlach a bit. their whole romance is soulikha saying over and over that she knows karlach is bound to die, and comforting her through that.

but after the actual end of the game, soulikha cries for the very first time and begs karlach to live. it's the first time she ever says the words "i want you to live.) very heartbreaking

their ending is opening. ultimately soulikha wants to stay with karlach. they promise each other to live. the ending varies depending on other stuff but YEAH.

her bad ending is letting herself become myrkuls new chosen so karlach can have her heart back. fucking AWFUL ending gkdjsd theyre so sad.

nyx is not from baldurs gate either, explicitly from the city of calimshan, in manshaka. son of a common whore, born in a pleasure house.

tiefling with the blood graz'zt. this is relevant later. fdkjsdk.

learns music from the musicians in the pleasure house. naturally gifted. starts composing his own music at ten when one of this mothers regular customers gifts him a cli' lyre, enchanted with magic

has a complicated relationship with his mother. his mother is a prostitute but also very addicted to drugs. she wasn't motherly and often made advances on him when he grew up into puberty. his only family. when she was coming down the high, he would play her music to fall asleep.

practiced a lot on his own, other musicians taught him other instruments. very talented. most of his music and songs were about his one true love, roxana

roxana was another child of the house. they grew up together. she wasn't particularly talented but she was soft, kind, and beautiful. they both knew she would end up staying in the house, but nyx did try to protect her from customers when they were both underage.

roxana is full blooded human. she has a tattoo of roses down her spine that nyx dedicated one of his songs too and got matching trellis tattoos for. his most popular song.

his composition reached far and wide and he was offered many times to leave the pleasure house to perform. but he loved roxana and she often begged to say with him - so he never went. for her he'd do pretty much anything.

spent most of their lives together as lovers. first kiss at 13, lost their virginity to each other at 16/17, when they are in their early 20's nyx saves up to propose.

nyx is betrayed by roxana, though nyx by default does not care if Rrxana were to take lovers. 

because of nyx’s upbringing and roxana’s work, all nyx had ever asked Roxana for was to keep no secrets between them 

(growing up, roxana was naturally meek and often was in dangerous situations. Both because of this and because of his mothers commentary after she’d invited him for sex (“let’s keep this a secret between us,”). nyx had asked Roxana to never keep things from him, if she could.) 

roxana ultimately chooses another man over nyx, one she’d kept a secret. she’d told nyx that she couldn’t be with him anymore. That she wanted more from life, and that she would go with her new lover to see greater sights. 

“I loved her. Beautiful like a rosebed. I was a fool, of course. Only a fool forgets that the first rule to pick roses is dethorning them, lest they make you bleed.”

nyx sets off for college the same night. packs his belongings, says by to the pleasure house. his mother kisses on the cheek. he doesn't tell roxana about this

after that he commits to a life of debauchery at the college of swords. many flings and makes more music but never gets tied down despite peoples offers and efforts.

very charismatic in general and good at behaving in slimy and manipulative ways fhfksd. acts in self-interest.

very weak to soft and gentle women (hung up on his ex.... rip)

never ever mentions roxana by name even as an origin character. a lot of his story is about getting him to open up. he has a confrontation with his ex in act 3. his story is similar to astarion

in act one he hears rumor of a beautiful prostitute in the city who works the cities leaders and follows this. his main decision is meeting roxana again and deciding whether or not to forgive or save her

(you learn through the course of his story that roxana was never particularly good or honest to him, though it's not easy to figure out. the best ending to for him to save her but not take her back, the worst is dying for he)

his primary love interest is lae'zel !!

they have a silly and funny relationship at first. it starts as a sex thing but their tent is next to each other. lae'zel likes calling him a jester but loves his voice too.

he likes that she's very different from the women he dates. she's very harsh towards him but he also trusts she would never lie to him. he comforts her through the situation with vlaaktih and she in his story helps him realize that not everyone is out to betray him. he wants to love her and does.

he is SO affectionate towards her act three. she is constantly pissed she has romantic feelings for local emo clown

lae'zel having no propensity for manipulation and also being very honest is really refreshing for nyx. they have a minor age gap fdkfskjd

at the end of the story - nyx encourages lae'zel to travel and save their people. he makes a life for them in the city and writes hundreds of songs about her in her absence. they raise a gith child together

「#59 ❝Wait, you mean this whole time, you hated peppermint?❞ with Sanji.」

VINSMOKE SANJI

"Here you go, [First Name]-swan! Robin-chwan!"

Sanji brought a tray with tea and cookies over to you and Robin who were exchanging thoughts about the book that you both just read. He set the drinks on the table between you and Robin, and poured the contents of the pot into two little cups. With a wide grin, he served handed you the cup of tea. You tried your best to keep your composure as the familiar smell wafted in the air. The tea settles in the cup and you can't help but stare at it as if it was your arch-nemesis. 

The blonde cook looks at you expectantly as if he was waiting for something. Robin seemed to understand your expression better than Sanji did as she gave you a small frown. The pressure of having to drink it was starting to get to you. Your stomach luched and you slowly brought the cup to your lips, taking a small sip. 'I can do this.' you told yourself over and over, swallowing the tea and smiling sweetly at the blonde who seemed to light up.

"It's delicious, Sanji. Thank you." you smiled.

He thanked the heavens for your compliments before leaving to prepare some snacks for the rest of the crew. You let out a small relieved sigh and put down the cup of tea, leaning fully back onto the chair you were sitting on. You never had any complaints about the food that Sanji makes but there are just some things you did not like. But you never had the heart to tell the cook about your hate for a certain item because you knew how much Sanji valued food. And you respected that.

"You should've told him that you don't like peppermint. I'm sure he'll understand." Robin puts down her book and picks up her own cup of peppermint tea.

"How can I when he puts so much effort into making all these for us?" you motioned over towards the cookies and tea that Sanji brought to you moments ago. After a few moments, you downed the tea in your cup and let out a noise that expressed disgust. Robin lets out an amused chuckle at your expression of disgust and slowly sipped on her cup.

Sanji was the person Nami warned you about. He is extremely amorous, constantly flirting with any attractive woman he sees. You witnessed first-hand for the first time when you joined the crew. He had caught you off guard, taking your hand in his, gently caressing them with a loving smile on his face as he introduced himself to you. The first impression left you unsure if you're going to be able to handle the attention from the blonde cook. The women of the crew quickly assured you that there was nothing to worry about.

You weren't sure when Sanji started stocking more peppermints, but he seemed to be using it in most of his dishes and drinks. You could only assume that it was when you told him about how popular peppermint has become. He might've thought that you liked it when you actually don't. When you peeked into the kitchen, you could see Sanji washing. And just sitting at the counter was a batch of used peppermint. The moment you entered the kitchen, the male twirled around to greet you with a tray of freshly baked tarts.

"[First Name]-chan! I made some peppermint tarts just for you! They're fresh out of the oven." the blonde put down the tray of tarts and began plating them for you.

"Um, thank you, Sanji. But it's too much for just me so I'll bring this to everyone." you smiled gently and left the kitchen. You let out a small sigh at the sight of the tarts, it does look delicious but you never really liked the taste of peppermint. Just outside the door of the kitchen, you spotted Chopper and called out to him.

"Wah! Smells good!" the reindeer skipped over towards you with a smile on his face. You crouched down to his level, offering him the tarts that Sanji handed to you earlier. You watched him happily munch on the peppermint tart.

"Delicious right?" you questioned him. 

'Crap! I forgot about the drinks.' Sanji's attention was now on the tea leaves that he had put aside. He initially intended to bring the tarts together with the tea but when you stepped in, he completely forgot about what he was doing. He made his way to the door to tell you about the drinks that he will serve to you later. But just as he was about to open the door, he could see you and Chopper talking. The door wasn't fully closed and he could hear the conversation between you and Chopper.

"Mhm! These peppermint tarts taste really good! But I thought that you hate peppermint, [First Name]." he mentioned.

"Yeah but since Sanji made it for me, it'd be such a waste to not one." you took one of the tarts from the plate and bit into the dessert. The taste of peppermint instantly overwhelmed your senses but you chewed a few times and forced yourself to swallow.

"You don't have to force yourself to eat something you don't like, though......" Chopper muttered.

"It's fine, Chopper. Sanji worked hard to make this, share it with everyone, will you?" you patted your fellow crewmate with a smile. Chopper nodded enthusiastically before heading off. You slowly got up from your crouching position, watching Chopper offer the tarts to Luffy and Usopp.

“Wait, you mean this whole time, you hated peppermint?”

"Sanji!" you whipped your head around to see the blonde, now standing at the doorway. You didn't expect Sanji to overhear you at all. Only a handful of people knew your hate for peppermint. He seemed equally as surprised as you were. But now that it's all out in the open, you couldn't fake it anymore.

"I-I thought you liked peppermint, [First Name]-san." he mutters in a low tone that only you were able to hear.

"I…..I couldn’t bring myself to tell you. I know how hard you work to prepare meals and snacks for us. I don't want to make you feel disappointed." you admitted, twiddling your fingers. Sanji carefully took the half-eaten tart from your hands. At the sight of your bashful face and guilt-stricken voice, Sanji found himself trying to keep his heart from leaping out. Such a cute creature before him, so considerate of his feelings.

"[First Name]-san.....you don't have to force yourself to eat something you don't like! You know that I will do anything to make food that is to your liking! If you have a certain dislike to certain things, please let me know! It's a cook's job to meet the customer's requirements, after all." Sanji said with a serious look on his face. Your eyes widened for a brief moment at his words.

"Thank you, Sanji." you suddenly leaned in and kissed his cheek to show gratitude.

Sanji found himself completely dumbstruck, seeing how your cheeks turned rosy red at your own actions. He was sure that his face was beet red by now. All of a sudden he felt lightheaded and he felt this familiar trickle from his nose. The last thing he saw was the bright blue sky and your worried face as he fell backward. You hovered above him with a concerned look on your face, taking his hand in yours. He used his free hand to wipe his nose.

"Uwa! Chopper! Sanji's nose is bleeding!" you exclaimed.

Kate: You’ll be alright, Liam. … We’ll take you to Roger right away.

A few hours after Liam was brought to the castle, he woke up covered in wounds.

Liam: … Uh… I…

Roger: You’re finally awake, you foolish cat. The young lady is on her way to report to Victor about tonight’s incident.

Roger: You should be grateful towards her. She was the one who asked Harry and El for help with carrying you all the way back here.

Liam: … I see, so it was Kate. Haha… I still became a bother to her in the end.

Roger: I’m not the least bit interested in whatever that's about, but I heard what happened while I was treating you.

Roger: You were beaten up for getting handsy with a woman. This is what you get for always giving in to other people's demands.

Liam: … I know that.

Roger: … Huh?

Liam’s eyes turned downcast and a shadow fell over his face.

Liam: It’s easier for me to fulfil other people’s desires, than to fulfil my own… much, much, easier.

Liam: Doesn't it make everyone happy when I fulfil all their desires…?

Liam: That’s why I live my life doing everything others tell me to…

Liam: However… Kate is different. I find myself willingly giving everything to her, and she doesn't ask me for anything.

Roger: …

Liam: And that isn’t all. … She even asked me, “what do YOU want, Liam?”

Liam: But I… I couldn't give her a good answer.

Victor: I’ve heard some information about the culprit who sold the information on Liam’s past…

Victor: There have been some suspicious movements around him lately.

Kate: Also, I have something to show you. Here—

I took the letter out of my pocket and handed it to Victor.

“— You are a sinner. Admit to your sins and pray that you will cause your own demise.”

Victor: This letter…

Kate: It was amongst a bunch of fan letters sent to The Scala.

Kate: Due to the content of the letter, I kept it away so that Liam wouldn’t see it…

Kate: I had some sort of premonition that this would turn into an even larger issue if I kept it to myself, so now I’m showing it to you.

Victor: … I see.

Victor: I’m grateful that you decided to keep the letter away for Liam’s sake. Thank you, Kate.

Victor: …

Victor: Leave this letter to me. I have a few things on my mind… and can I share about this with William?

Kate: Yes, of course. Please take care of it.

Victor: Yeah.

Victor: — At any rate, Liam suffered many fresh wounds. I wish he’d take better care of himself.

Victor’s tone was full of affection, like a parent worried about his child.

(... Come to think of it, didn’t Liam say that he was scouted by Victor to join Crown?)

Kate: Why did you invite Liam to join Crown?

Victor: Hm? Why, you ask?

Kate: He told me that you were recruiting people born with curses to help fight evil with evil.

Kate: I’m sure there must be other people with curses, apart from the members of Crown… so I’m wondering what your criteria was.

Victor: Hmm, that's a very good question. You’re definitely right about the existence of other cursed people in England.

Victor raised his beautiful index finger.

Victor: Firstly, I have to be certain that the person I’m intending to recruit is indeed a cursed person.

Victor: I don’t have supernatural powers. I wouldn’t have approached him in the first place if I wasn't certain.

Victor: And finally, this is the most important criteria in my opinion — there must be a lack of freedom in his heart.

Kate: Lack of freedom…?

Victor: Kate, what do you think is something a person absolutely needs to survive…?

I was suddenly reminded of something Liam said to me back when we first met, something about “the very core of the heart”.

Kate: I think… the most important thing someone needs in order to survive is to protect what’s hidden in the very core of their heart.

Kate: If that part of them is hurt or damaged… it'll surely make their life difficult to live.

Victor: That’s right. … Yeah, I agree with your thinking.

Victor: … To me, the most important thing someone needs for survival is “freedom”.

Kate: Freedom…

Victor: Freedom has many forms. But in this case, let’s define it as the right for someone to live as their heart pleases.

Victor’s eyes that resembled a pair of gemstones and usually had a harmless sparkle in them, suddenly darkened.

Victor: To me… it seemed that Liam had lost all of that.

Kate: Victor…

Victor: And that’s why I was so pushy about recruiting him! I told myself that I would never let him go.

Victor: Liam is cool, lovely, and sexy. I fell in love with him at first sight!

I smiled and nodded, knowing that Victor’s smile was out of kindness.

Kate: … I’m sure Liam was glad to have met you, and he certainly is still grateful for that.

Victor: Kate. Once your time as a fairytale writer comes to an end, you will have the “freedom” to decide what you want to do afterwards.

Kate: … Yes.

Victor: I’d be glad if you would keep that in mind.

When I stepped out into the hallway, I saw my face reflected in the window.

(As for what decision I’ll make when I’m done with my role as a fairytale writer… honestly, I don't know yet.)

— But for now, I want to stay by Liam’s side.

That was an undeniable fact.

And that was not because I wanted to give back to Liam for everything he had done for me, but because “I” wanted it.

(I still haven't found the right words to say to him…)

Victor told me that Liam would be exempted from Crown’s activities until his injuries were healed.

(Oh, that's RIGHT—)

The next day, I woke up slightly earlier to prepare packed lunch for two people, and went to get Liam.

Kate: This way, this way. Here, come inside.

Liam: … The dance hall?

Liam looked around the dance hall that was usually used for parties.

I smiled at him and quickly took out the freshly made lunch���

Kate: Shall we have a picnic in the castle today?

Liam: Huh?

Kate: I’ve been thinking about it ever since the first time I saw this place. I thought that it’d be amazing to have a meal in such a large space.

Liam: …

Liam: Ahaha! Of course I’d love to. So this packed lunch is meant to be a sweetener?

Kate: Yes! Exactly.

Liam and I looked at each other and giggled. We then sat down in the middle of the dance hall to have our lunch.

We chatted about all sorts of little things, like the way my typewriter hadn't been working well lately, and which shop’s desserts were the best.

Liam: Fufu, I’m excited because this feels like I’m doing something I shouldn't. Also, this packed lunch is the most delicious I’ve ever had!

Liam: Thanks for inviting me, Kate.

(... This is great. He’s smiling.)

Kate: Since you went along with my plan…

Kate: If there's ever anything you want to do, let's do it together.

Liam: … ah.

Kate: Whatever you want to do, even if it's a little bit bad, I’ll gladly go with you.

Perhaps he had a specific reason for always neglecting and turning a blind eye to his own desires.

However, if that was what shaped Liam as a person, it’d be too overbearing to expect him to change.

(Therefore, I’ll be the one to accept it whenever Liam has something he wants.)

(That’s the only thing I can think of right now.)

Liam: … Why are you being so nice to me, Kate?

Kate: … Because you’re precious to me, so isn't it a given?

Liam: … Precious?

Kate: We’ve been spending a lot of time together ever since I got here.

Kate: During those times, you’ve given me a lot. Kindness, courage… those are irreplaceable things.

On the very first night, I was overwhelmed by fear and anxiety. But Liam stayed by my side, protecting my heart.

He took me to his performances, reminded me of a near forgotten dream, and “flew” in the air with me in his arms.

The things he gave me were as many as the stars in the sky, and I wanted to give back to him even just a little.

Kate: Of course I’d cherish someone like you.

Kate: And regardless of what the future brings, you will always be precious to me, Liam.

Kate: You will always, always, be.
