The image used in the background of the Gravity Falls logo HAS BEEN FOUND!!

It's located in France!!

I made a thread on Twitter explaining the full story and how I even asked Ian Worrel and Alex Hirsch about it, but lemme run down quickly how it was found and where it is!

After 3 years of searching with some friends on and off, we had no real luck. I've been working on a video about it for a while but decided to try one more time. My friend @trickengf suggested looking at international logos as they may have more of the image available and sure enough...we found logos like the Japanese and Russian GF logo had more visible detail of the image.

From that, Tricken made a remake of the image and used it to find it. He ended up finding the source at about 3AM for me, lol!

My friend Fried Oreos then confirmed the image was old enough to fit the criteria of pre GF pilot, by determining the image was on the Textures website it was sourced from since 2008!

Then, my friend Alex M managed to buy the HD image and we were able to analyze its metadata for more info!

Turns out, the image, called "LandscapeMountains0009," was taken by a Nikon D70 camera on April 18, 2007!

THE GRAVITY FALLS LOGO IMAGE IS ALMOST 18 YEARS OLD!!

From there, we began looking for the location. The meta data had no location, but other images taken around the same time showed signs of maybe the location being in Europe.

After over a day of searching, Tricken, Alex M and Oreos FOUND IT!!

The location of the image is a mountain range near the town of Sers, France...near the border with Spain.

Exact coordinates of the closest viewable angle of the image is 42°54'23.2"N 0°06'05.6"E

This is a major discovery and one I cannot believe we did. While this search was started by me in 2021 with some friends, it was TrickenGF, Alex M and Fried Oreos who deserve all the credit for this discovery! They were the geniuses who tracked all of this down and were able to connect the dots to get to this point.

You guys are amazing and I am beyond grateful for all of this.

Finding this image means that fans can now recreate the Gravity Falls logo as they want with anything they want. For example, Tricken made this for me using the image :D

For 12 years as we looked at the Gravity Falls logo...we were in reality looking at a mountain in France...NOT Oregon!

So, I guess this is a major W for France but sorry, Pacific Northwest, Gravity Falls is actually French, lol!

You know when this all started coming to light, I fully expected that leftists would try to downplay the horrific violence by acknowledging that it was "bad and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, but......" or by making a sharp distinction between civilians and soldiers (or even like, minors and adults), but the thing that's fucked me up is that nope! We sailed right past any attempt to even pretend at human decency and cut straight to "they deserved it."

Even the kids?? Yep, even the kids.

Like Jesus H. Christ y'all.

I'm used to people feeling like they need to at least gesture vaguely in the direction of giving a shit about Jewish lives and not justifying actual terror tactics and war crimes on civilians (you'd think for consistency's sake they might care about looking like they care for the credibility but..) even if we both know they really don't actually care about antisemitism in a meaningful way. We both know that they won't be there when it actually counts, and they sure as fuck aren't going to interrogate their own personal or group's antisemitism. But usually there's a fig leaf. There's at least a baseline assumption that they should care about antisemitism and Jewish people staying alive, even if they don't actually, so they'll say the minimum amount of correct sounding words and then quickly skedaddle onto whatever it is they actually care about.

And like, is that good? No, it's not. It's not good enough. I'm sick and fucking tired of people doing juuuuuust enough to pretend to care without ever addressing the real underlying issues.

But this? This totally floored me. This drops that baseline assumption that antisemitism and murdered Jews is a bad thing entirely and blatantly sides with literal actual terrorists committing unspeakable horrors while holding it up as "liberation."

And what's worse? Most of those were the further out fringe types (although there were a horrifying amount more than I expected) right? Most everyone else wasn't spouting off about how happy they were that vive la révolucion, right? You know what was really deafening?

The silence from everyone else.

Literally everyone except for maybe one or two gentiles I remember seeing kept their mouths shut. Everyone else? Not a goddamn word about how fucked up it was that people were crowing over our people's fresh corpses. The bodies hadn't even cooled yet and we had jackasses on here publicly celebrating with memes and gore videos, and not a word from 99.9% of you.

The people who did speak up? You have no idea how much it means, and I'm grateful. Truly.

Everyone else who was too gutless, spineless, or oblivious to realize how critical a moment this was for support and/or was more interested in protecting your image or whatever?

Let's just say: duly noted.

I may continue to work alongside you (what choice do I have?) but the trust is gone.

We're clearly on our own, with rare exception.

You and Matt stood on opposite sides of your shared bed. The grey, silk sheets were currently covered in the laundry the two of you were folding. Light banter passed between you every now and then. The occasional joke about your socks, the returned jab about Matt not even being able to see color, the play-bickering that would follow.

Your attention would often stray from the wrinkled laundry in your hands to Matt standing in front of you. Soft t-shirt draped over his broad shoulders, black sweatpants hanging on his sharp hips, dark hair mussed from you running your fingers through it earlier. He was the spitting image of Husband Material.

"You're staring again," he mused, folding a pair of your jeans and placing them on their pile. A cocky grin was spread across his full lips.

"So what if I am?" you replied while tucking a hanger into one of Matt's dress shirts. Your wandering gaze met his empty stare, his dark eyes directed somewhere near your chin. You stuck your tongue out at him, then said, "You shouldn't even be able to tell. You're blind."

"Ouch. Low blow, Mrs.Murdock," he said, hands cradling his supposed broken heart against his chest. You scoffed and chucked a pair of socks at him. He snapped a hand out and caught the projectile easily.

A mischievous thought passed your mind. Before Matt could question your suddenly suspicious silence, a cluster of sock pairs were hurled in his direction from your side of the bed. Soaring through the lamplit bedroom and rearing up over Matt like a cluster of missiles.

Knowing a losing battle when he (usually) senses one, Matt dodged out of the way as the socks pelted the hardwood floor.

Silence. Tense, charged, playful grins growing on both your faces.

You took the lead as you ducked behind the bed and grabbed fistfuls of laundry. Whether they be underwear, shirts, socks, or pillowcases, all were formed into cloth balls and lobbed over the bed at your husband. And he returned his fair share of projectiles, matched socks and balled t-shirts plopping to the ground around you.

"Vive la France!" you shouted over the top of the bed.

Matt paused mid throw, curled sweatpants clutched in his fist. He looked incredulously at you.

"Seriously? Les Mis?" he asked.

His question was answered by a balled sweatshirt smacking him square in the face.

The two of you squinted your eyes at each other.

This meant war.

The Gravity Falls logo is iconic. But within it is an image that for years has left fans wondering if it is real or not. Over the past 3 years, me and some friends have been searching for it and at long last...it's been FOUND!

This is the story of how we did it!

Lando was surprised at how excited Carlos was at the prospect of karaoke. It didn’t seem to square with his image of his teammate. Carlos had seemed so serious, so careful, maybe even intimidating and, if Lando was to be very uncharitable…kind of boring.

But then, Lando mused as they made their way to the place George and Alex had suggested, a lot of things Lando had expected of his new teammate hadn’t turned out to be true. Yes, Carlos was serious—but that didn’t stop him from laughing like one of those Lion King hyenas. Yes, Carlos was careful—but that didn’t stop him from manhandling Lando in ways that made him squawk in outrage and maybe other things. Yes, Carlos seemed intimidating—and then he smiled encouragingly at Lando, his giant brown eyes sincere and sweet, when Lando stammered over feedback.

So, yeah, Carlos seemed boring, but then…

“How’s this for a laugh?” George said, flicking through the songs in the karaoke directly. They had been picking songs for each other, and it was George’s turn to pick one for Lando. “I don’t even know if you’ll know this one, mate.”

Lando scowled at him. He was a bit worried about making an ass of himself in front of Carlos, who was politely sitting in the booth, nursing a beer. He looked ridiculously handsome in a casual sweatshirt and jeans. “No recording,” he growled at George and Alex, the latter of whom quickly put away his phone.

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Alex chirped with false sincerity.

Lando sighed and stepped up to the front of their room. He scowled at George again and then looked at the monitor:

Everytime We Touch – Cascada.

Oh. Well. Shit. This was going to be embarrassing for another reason.

Lando made a split second decision to fuck the song up, and then the first few notes played, and he promptly forgot that decision. He vaguely registered Carlos sitting up right before, devastatingly, Lando lost himself to the song.

Tremulously, albeit no less passionately, Lando began: “I still hear your voice when you sleep next to me, I still feel your touch in my dreams…”

George and Alex were agape. Lando wasn’t even looking at the monitor. He knew the lyrics all too well.

“Forgive me my weakness, but I don’t know why, without you it’s hard to–”

“Sur-vive–!”

That wasn’t Lando. That was–

And as Lando stared, open-mouthed, his serious, careful, intimidating, boring teammate jolted to his feet, beer held aloft, and sang triumphantly:

“‘Cause every time we touch, I get this feeling–”

And Lando, relieved and…and thrilled, beamed widely and began singing along with Carlos, “And every time we kiss, I swear I could fly!”

Carlos was climbing over George and Alex’s stunned forms towards Lando, singing the whole time:

“Can’t you feel my heart beat fast, I want this to last, need you by my side!”

By the time the second part of the chorus hit, Carlos had drawn close to Lando, and Lando laughed and held his microphone so it was between his lips and Carlos’.

“‘Cause every time we touch, I feel this static, and every time we kiss, I reach for the sky!”

Somewhere in the back of his mind, singing with—singing to—his teammate, Lando registered that this was maybe one of the gayer things he had done in his young life. He also registered that his teammate was hot. And he was reminded, annoyingly, that he had nursed a low-level crush on Carlos Sainz for several years.

“Can’t you hear my heart beat so, I can’t let you go, want you in my life!”

And Carlos was very close to him. And he looked very happy. And he smelt really good.

And he was not a good singer.

But that was actually good to know, and Lando wasn’t great either, but that didn’t stop them from singing loud and enthusiastic about how much they wanted to kiss each other.

Lando was almost sad when the song ended. Carlos laughed, running a hand through his hair. “I cannot remember the last time I heard that song,” Carlos said, grinning at Lando. Lando felt his heart beat fast (ugh). The world seemed to recede—it felt like it was just him and Carlos.

“I can’t believe you like it!” Lando said, still in shock at what had transpired. Carlos smiled at him and shrugged.

“Why not? It’s good, no?”

It’s so gay, mate.

“…yeah, it is,” Lando said instead, and for a few moments, he was content to just keep looking up at his silly, affectionate, kind, fun teammate, who was looking back at him, warmth in his eyes.

“…how the fuck did you both know that?”

That jolted them out of their reverie.

Some years later, then, when Carlos and Lando were no longer teammates, when they were married, when they were talking seriously about whether and when they wanted children, and—most daunting of all—out shopping for Christmas presents, a familiar song started playing at Harrod’s.

“Hey,” Carlos said, squeezing Lando’s hand that he had tucked into the crook of his arm. “It’s our song.”

And Lando smiled and pressed his face into Carlos’ shoulder. “Yeah. I guess it is.”
