INFINITY INC #49-50
April/May 1988
By Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, Vince Argondezzi, Michael Bair, Sam Kieth, Frank McLaughlin, Liz Berube, Jean Simek.

Nuklon wants to propose to Lyta, but the Kirby version of the Sandman keeps "visiting" her every night. Also there is an invasion from a world of fairy tales or something.

SCORE: 6
This should have been a 5, but Michael Bair was an amazing improvement in the art.
Just look at the page above... now take a look at the "flashback pages"...

How are these two artists in the same book?
It should be a minus point for the editor, but to be honest, the art makes the whole experience more bearable.

Starting with the cover for issue #49... what were they thinking?
But in general, the book feels a lot like Fan Fiction at times. Roy Thomas is a fan of the Golden Age and it shows... but the dark side of that is that sometimes he is just too busy trying to make sense of what came before, and it just slows down the stories.
Also the characters tend to sound antiquated and sexist (and some stereotypes of the little diversity in place are simply offensive). It really amazes me that a book that was supposed to be a cousin of New Teen Titans feels so old.
Anyway, in case you haven't noticed, this whole mess with Sandman and Lyta will later be used by Neil Gaiman in "Sandman".

Vince Argondezzi RIP
Next Man was the first independent comic I ever laid eyes on -- "Who's this cool looking Robocop guy?" (Even though the comic predated the movie by a couple of years.) Vince had Kirby vibes before having Kirby vibes was de rigueur.
Argondezzi (aka Vince Argon & Comic Company A) had a super brief career, mostly known for Next Man (w/Roger McKenzie) and Infinity Inc. (w/Roy Thomas), taking over Todd McFarlane's spot as regular penciler. I found out about his passing via a couple of comment threads, so I wanted to make note of it in some capacity.
