The Vilkha-M has a range of 110km (68 miles) and a 300mm, 485-pound warhead that can hit targets with great accuracy, Ivan Vinnyk, first deputy head of the National Association of Ukrainian Defense Industries, told The War Zone Tuesday(..)
P.S. The Russian attack on Ukraine and the too slow arrival of Western aid show that it is essential for Eastern European countries to develop their own national military industry capable of producing advanced long-range weapons systems(..) as well as much closer military-industrial cooperation between the countries of the region should be developed by purchasing weapons produced here by local companies(..)

[Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks about Ukrainian attacks on civilians in Donetsk City and Bolgorod city-center on New Year's Eve and Day.]
🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 🚨
RUSSIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN RESPONDS TO UKRAINIAN STRIKES ON BOLGOROD AND DONETSK CITY
Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to Ukraine's New Year's Day strikes targeting Donetsk City while visiting the Vishnevsky Military hospital and speaking with soldiers wounded in the Special Military Operation in Ukraine.
While making rounds speaking with soldiers and answering questions from reporters, President Putin broached the topic of Ukraine's recent missile strikes targeting the city center of Bolgorod and then again in Donetsk City overnight on New Year's Day.
“What just happened in Belgorod is, of course, a terrorist act. Why? Because, under the cover of two Vilkha missiles they fired from multiple launch rocket systems, right in the center of the city, where people are walking in front of for the New year," President Putin said.
“Should we respond in this way? Of course, we can hit squares in Kiev or any other city. There are children walking, mothers with strollers. I understand, everything is boiling inside me."
Pointing to the terrorist nature of the attack, Putin added, "I want to ask you: Do we need to do such things? Hit city-center squares?"
President Putin, emphasizing that Russian Forces focus on military targets rather than civilian ones, added, “And that’s what we do. We strike with high-precision weapons at places where [military] decisions are made, at places where military personnel, mercenaries gather, at other centers of this kind, at military facilities, first of all. And they are quite sensitive, these strikes."
Putin added that in launching these terroristic strikes aimed at civilians, the Kiev regime is trying to intimidate Moscow, and induce fear and uncertainty in the Russian population.
“We, for our part, will increase the strikes that I mentioned. Not a single crime of this kind - and this is, of course, a crime against the civilian population - will go unpunished, one hundred percent, there can be no doubt,” Putin assured.
Pointing to Western assistance to Ukraine, Putin added "The point is not that they help our enemy, but they are our enemy. They solve their own problems with [Ukrainian] hands, that’s what it’s all about."
Putin emphasized that ordinary Ukrainians were not their enemies, but that the collective West wants to destroy Russian sovereignty and to inflict a strategic defeat on the Russian Federation, and pointed out that Western elites have wanted to split the Federation into five parts for many years.
“That’s why they nurtured the so-called Kiev regime for quite a long time. It was precisely in order to create this conflict. Unfortunately for us, they achieved this, they created this conflict and are trying to solve their problem with the help of Ukrainians, namely the task of fighting Russia," the Russian Commander-in-Chief said.
Though, according to President Putin, the situation on the ground is gradually improving, with the enemy slowly losing ground, and pointed to the ammunition shortage the Ukrainian Armed Forces are suffering from at the moment, with Ukrainian Forces firing more munitions than the collective West can produce.
“And we are increasing and will continue to increase [production], and in multiples. They were supplied with more than 400 tanks - 450 or whatever it is - and in a year we will produce and overhaul 1,600. This is not a state secret, in fact, there will probably be more," the Russian President said.
"And this is true for almost every position. Therefore, despite the fact that from time immemorial they have set such a task, - to [destroy] Russia, we ourselves will [destroy] them faster, it seems."
President Putin also spoke about the importance of the consolidation of Russian society, and fulfilling the task set for the Russian Armed Forces. He mentioned the changing rhetoric of the West as evidence of the progress of Russian goals, pointing to Western leaders who are already talking about how to quickly end the conflict. However, President Putin emphasized that the Special Military Operation would only end on Russia's own terms.
Speaking of the progress by Russian Forces, Vladimir Putin stated, “Firstly, we have weapons that no army in the world has. And secondly, the ability to use everything that [is produced]. Thirdly, what [is produced, is produced] quickly enough.”
The Russian Head-of-State also discussed the situation with regards to military production and supply-lines, saying that the effectiveness of the armed struggle is determined by how quickly an army can isolate what it needs at any given moment and respond to it from a production point-of-view, implementing plans as quickly as possible during combat operations.
“We are doing this better and better, and probably better than anywhere else. And this is a very huge advantage that our armed forces have,” Putin added and recalled that although he wouldn't give themselves the highest evaluation, he assesses the progress of the SMO as "satisfactory".

“It would be especially useful against targets like bridges, large structures and heavy fortifications that are ill suited for both GLSDB and GMLRS.”
So, maybe the recent strike in Mariupol were from Ukrainian designed and made missiles after all. It’s amazing how Ukraine can develop numerous weapons on its own while fighting a terrible war, even high-tech ones. The country has a bright future in military capabilities. It will need it, having such a shithole as a neighbor.

Ukrainian forces have been using the Vilkha-M long range precision MLRS. Each 300mm rocket has a range of 110 km (+36% vs GMLRS via HIMARS/M270) and a warhead weighing 220 kg (+250% vs GMLRS). Gas rudders on the Vilkha-M rocket help guide the warhead onto the target via GPS. Source: OSINTtechnical
P.S. The invasion of the Russian orcs and Ukraine's difficulty in obtaining modern long-range weapons from West clearly show how important it is for Eastern European, Scandinavian and Baltic countries to develop their own indigenous military industry in order to be able to produce long-range precision weapons(..) as well regional defense alliances like NORDEFCO or UK led Joint Expeditionary Force which consists of Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway...

[Over the past 24 hours, the UAF fired more than 50 munitions into populated areas of the Belgorod region, and carrying out several strikes using drones, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov who posted about the incident on Telegram.]
🇺🇦⚔️🇷🇺 🚨 💥UKRAINIAN FORCES CONTINUE SHELLING BOLGOROD CITY-CENTER, ONE KILLED AND FIVE WOUNDED SAYS GOVERNOR💥
One civilian man was killed and five others wounded in a series of Ukrainian artillery and missile strikes targeting the Bolgorod city-center, in the southwest of the Russian Federation, near the border with Ukraine.
The arrivals, along with the results, were announced in statement from Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on his official Telegram channel. Gladkov noted that Russian air-defenses shot down 8 targets flying over the Bolgorod region.
“According to preliminary data, there is one person killed - a man was driving in a car when a shell exploded next to it. He died on the spot from shrapnel wounds,” the governor wrote, expressing condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
Gladkov added that four people were wounded in the vicinity of the car market, including a man and a woman who received shrapnel wounds and were taken to the regional clinical hospital. Two other men declined to be seen at hospital.
Another victim of the strike was taken to the emergency room, a woman who was riding the bus when when debris from the attack fell through the ceiling of the bus, wounding her in the arm. Doctors are treating her currently.
In addition to the dead and wounded, multiple private homes were damaged in the strike, along with four cars and a bus, according to Gladkov.
The strike was the third targeting the Bolgorod region today. At approximately noon, Russian air defenses shot down four Ukrainian Vilkha missiles, followed by five more an hour later, wounding two people.
Previously, on Dec. 30th, 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Bolgorod city-center using Vilkha missiles along with Czech Vampire MLRS. Although Russian air defenses shot down the majority of the missiles and shells, several rounds, including cluster munitions, struck the center of the city.
According to preliminary data, 25 casualties were recorded as a result of the strikes, including 5 children, along with more than 100 wounded, spurring the Ministry of Defense to open a criminal investigation against Ukraine into charges of “Attempted murder”, “Murder”, and “Deliberate destruction or damage to property”.
In response to the strikes, the Russian Federation has convened a session of the United Nations Security Council, with the Russian permanent representative, Vasily Nebenzya, calling the strike a deliberate act of terrorism directed against Russian civilians.
Nebenzya blamed the collective West for the strike, arguing that Brussels, London and Washington were responsible as accomplices of Ukrainian crimes, and added that all those complicit in the strikes would be punished.

Russia bringing to the market a pathetic imitation of Ukraine's Vilkha MLR system
This week, Russian media spat out a bunch of extatic and euphoric reports announcing the release to the markets of yet another "toy for the adepts of imperial greaetness", the modernized Soviet-era Smerch complex named Tornado-S. They went as far as calling it a unique piece outperforming all competitors worldwide.
Sergey Abramov, an industrial executive at Rostec Corporation (which, by the way is a sanctioned entity) boasted of Tornado-S's uniqueness. Also, someone named Yuriy Knutov, a "military expert", claimed in a comment to Russia's propaganda channel RT that the Tornado-S MLRS might face some competition in the international market, but the Russian model is "far superior" to its rivals.
Well, praising own weapons is the right of any propaganda machine, but that is just too much! The thing is that in the post-Soviet space, Tornado-S is perhaps the least successful modernization of the infamous Smerch. And speaking of this, I am comparing it in my mind with the Ukrainian Vilkha and the Belarusian-Chinese Polonaise.
If we compare the "unique" Tornado-S with Vilkha, the Russian complex has a hitting range of up to 120 km, while the Ukrainian model has 130 km with a further prospect of increasing up to 200 km (a Vilkha-R modification).
It is also noteworthy that the increase in the hitting range for Tornado-S was achieved by both reducing the warhead to 150 kg and increasing the rocket's weight and size, namely, the length of the rocket is 7.6 m and the weight is 820 kg. At the same time, the warhead of the Ukrainian Vilkha is 170-250 kg, while the rocket's length and weight are 7 m and 800 kg, respectively.
It should be noted that Tornado-S is also inferior in a number of parameters to the Belarusian MLRS Polonaise with a hitting range of its A-200 rockets ranges from 50 km to 200 km depending on the type of warhead: 150 - 100 kg.
The praised accuracy of the Tornado-S is also doubtful because its auto-correction system is inertial, using GLONASS, while the Ukrainian rocket uses GPS in addition to the inertial principle. In combination with gas-jet and gas-dynamic flight controls, this allows the Vilkha to have a maximum deviation of target hit of no more than 5-7 m. In turn, according to the available data, such deviation of the Russian Tornado-S remained at up to 50 m, although even the Belarusian Polonaise has it at up to 30 m.
So, yes, indeed, the camp of our hybrid neighbors will remain euphoric in the near future. As I said, a new- old toy is being presented to the masses. It's about time to praise Russian weapons, while diverting public attention from a series of disasters with other "toys", such as the unique AS-12 Losharik submersible and the Burevestnik missile. But in fact, this euphoria is not worth a penny because the Tornado-S, in fact, is just a pathetic imitation of the Ukrainian Vilkha.
