Do you guys think in this scene Viktor was able to see the different versions of Jayce from other realities overlapping? We know Vik was aware something was up with him: "Now I see it, you too have touched the Arcane. Your mind has suffered.” “That isn’t Jayce, there's another will at work within him." These pics of Jayce fighting with himself make me tear up every time 🥲

I got myself emotional over how Viktor just feels so much and so intensely, and now all I can think about is post-finale Viktor crying while Jayce tenderly cradles his face in his hands to comfort him, because it is all so overwhelming to have all those feelings coming back full force, now that he can't tone them down with his powers anymore.

I used the cane on my right side to aid my balance. However, now that I need to rest my weight on my aid, I use a crutch - fabricated by Jayce - opposite my injured leg. You will notice that I still grab my crutch with my right hand, however, when I wish to move quickly. I get more stability this way and, eh, it is something of an old habit.

My spinal surgery and brace are measures taken to keep me upright. I had a disease similar to Rickets as a child, in addition to a condition comparable to your Polio. I now have a more aggressive form of a sort of Post-Polio Syndrome.

Lately, my coughing has worsened, despite continued exposure to clean air. I am sure it will pass, but Jayce seems concerned.

So. I’ve got some questions and thoughts about Viktor’s cane. (And a heads up—I am abled, so I apologise profusely if I miss something or get anything wrong!)

I saw another user point out that baby Viktor uses his cane incorrectly. According to my trawling of the interwebs, using a cane on the opposite side of the affected limb is best as it provides better overall body support. Vik’s bad leg is his right, so he should use his cane in his left hand.

We can only assume that coming from Zaun, and with limited access to education or medical experts, lil’ Vik had to make do (especially given that his cane is a bent stick that’s been repaired and modified).  So yes. Viktor is young and no one around him knows better.

But look! He’s still using it incorrectly well into his twenties. Now, maybe he’s a special case and just has a preference for using it in his right hand. And I seriously doubt Fortiche made a mistake with this, because…come on. We’ve seen the detail they go to. 

From this, we can brainstorm a few ideas—maybe Viktor uses it this way because it’s all he knows and for some reason, no one has corrected him. Which, given his status as a Zaunite and a disabled person, is quite a fitting way for the people of Piltover to treat him. Or, maybe, even when working for the Academy, he still lacked the funds to get appropriate treatment and so carried on as he was. Hell, maybe Piltover ostracises anyone with a disability and they’re clueless about proper care (unlikely, but still has a shred of potential).

But after the time skip? He’s corrected his use. Even though he’s now using a crutch instead of a cane, the advice is the same—use it on the opposite side. 

So now we’re thinking…why now? 

Well, I noticed something on the render of Viktor used for the RiotX Arcane experience. Even though it’s non-canon, it’s set once Hextech becomes an accepted technology—a few months or years after, it’s hard to tell. Anyway, he’s using his cane correctly here as well! 

So naturally, this leads me to think that maybe Viktor finally got the right medical advice once he’d made a name for himself as part of Hextech. Like only after achieving something seemingly impossible for a Zaunite was he recognised as a proper member of Piltovan society. Anyway. It’s all conjecture and I have no idea really. :P But I’ve got one final note to make.

So we’ve all seen the back brace Viktor wears, presumably to keep his spine straight because of his crippled leg throwing things off (a really nice detail, really). But I also noticed that he has screws in his actual spine. Like damn. 

I makes me wonder…did he have spinal surgery to fix problems caused by long-term incorrect cane usage!? 

And, by extension, is that another deliberate example of the disadvantages the people of Zaun suffer from? I mean. It makes sense. As if they’d have access to good medical care or advice. All the doctors probably disappeared into Piltover for the cashed up aristocracy. 

(Alternatively, he was destined for spinal surgery and a brace no matter how he used his cane, but… still. :P)

Not Viktor, wistfully glancing at Jayce's lips, perhaps regretting that they aren't reserved for his own, but rather for the audience Jayce is about to give a speech to. Not Viktor, quickly averting his eyes and pensively looking away, as if to prevent himself from fantasizing about them for too long?

How cruel is this passage which confirms that even 6-7 years later, Viktor's still head over heels for his golden darling (it's episode 4 and already in eps 2 and 3 set in the past, he was showing fruity signs of interest in Jayce; see here and there and here too), and at the same time foreshadows that Jayce will soon begin to neglect his partner, their friendship and professional collaboration by plunging into the corruption offered by fame, success, appearances and politics.

But on closer inspection, everything's wrong in this scene, and it's so absurd it's tragically funny: Viktor is lusting after Jayce, but Jayce doesn't notice it and heads for the stage instead. Sky is lusting after Viktor but he doesn't care and only has eyes for Jayce. And Jayce, as he contemplates the stage before him, doesn't yet know that he's in fact symbolically staring at Mel and his future role as councilor. Goddammit, the level of unrequited pining they must have had for each other in that friggin' lab must have been so high that it should have been enough to activate the Hextech.

Jayce & Singed: Two sides of the same coin in Viktor's life. A parallel analysis between these scenes ☯️

Singed, far from rejecting Viktor's curiosity, acknowledges and values it. This scene is a moment of mutual understanding: Singed sees in Viktor a brilliant child who suffers from being different, and Viktor finds for the first time someone who doesn't judge him. This parallel reinforces the idea that Jayce, without knowing it, plays a similar role to the one Singed had in Viktor's childhood. Both scenes occur at turning points in Viktor's life. The first time, when he meets Singed, marks the beginning of his path in science. The second, when Jayce repeats the gesture, symbolizes his decision to return to Singed, closing a circle. Singed and Jayce represent two ways of support in Viktor's life. While Singed understands him in his struggle for progress at any cost, Jayce supports him from friendship and morality, although they eventually drift apart.

With Singed, Viktor's expression shows surprise. He isn't used to being treated with warmth or being understood, so his instinct is to shrink back and make that doubtful face. Years later, Viktor repeats the exact same gesture and expression when Jayce places his hand on the same shoulder. This shows that, despite his maturity and achievements, he still reacts the same way to unexpected support. It's as if he still doesn't know if he deserves the help he's being given. This parallel reinforces that Viktor's trapped in a cycle he doesn't realize he's repeating. 🔹In his childhood, Viktor witnesses how Singed experiments with Rio and uses shimmer in order for her to survive. He's seeing for the first time the concept of sacrificing something to achieve progress. 🔹In the second scene with Jayce, Viktor's about to do the same thing: turn to Singed and extreme methods to survive. He's returning to the person that offered him an alternative when the world rejected him. Just when Viktor believes that Jayce could be the person to help him, the scene suggests that the true answer for him still lies with Singed, even if it means losing part of himself in the process. Jayce and Singed have been figures of support for him at different times, but in opposite ways: 🔹Singed represents science without limits, sacrifice at any cost. Since childhood, Viktor saw in Singed a brilliant mind unafraid to challenge the rules of nature. 🔹Jayce represents science with restrictions, morality, and political power. He's the hopeful side of progress, the idea that science can change the world without anyone having to suffer for it. The parallel in the shoulder gesture marks the intersection between both influences in Viktor's life. At that moment, he's right at the crossroads between Jayce (friendship, science with limits) and Singed (sacrifice, transhumanism, progress at any cost). 🔹Singed gave Viktor a deep understanding of his suffering: "Loneliness is often the byproduct of a gifted mind". He showed him that his scientific curiosity was not a mistake, but a gift. 🔹Jayce, while offering support, never truly understands Viktor's struggle. He's not willing to walk that path with him. While Singed took Viktor under his wing, Jayce let him go when he needed an ally the most. "Our paths diverged long ago". That hand on the shoulder is key because it happens at moments when Viktor is at a turning point. 🔹Singed did it when he took him in for the first time, indirectly giving him the validation he never had. 🔹Jayce repeated the same gesture at the moment Viktor decided to return to Singed. Both moments represent support, but with a crucial difference: Singed actively supports and guides him, while Jayce, without realizing it, gives him the final motive to return to his former mentor.

In the end, Viktor's tragedy is not just his illness or his transformation, but the fact that he was never able to escape the cycle that shaped his childhood. "Do you believe in fate, doctor? Our paths carved before us, guided by an invisible hand?"

In the second scene, Jayce doesn’t stop Viktor from going to Singed, but he also doesn’t go with him, reinforcing the idea that Jayce has never fully understood Viktor's desperation. This becomes even more evident later when Jayce is surprised to learn that the person Viktor turned to was someone from the Undercity. His reaction shows that, despite their friendship, Jayce still sees the world through a privileged and moralistic perspective. "You didn't say they were from the Undercity".

In Season 2, Jayce finds himself in the same situation Viktor was in during Season 1: desperate, feeling powerless, facing the possibility of losing someone he cares about. And his solution is exactly the same as Singed’s: using science/magic regardless of the consequences. 🔹Singed tries to bring his daughter back using shimmer and forbidden science. 🔹Jayce does the same with Viktor, using Hextech to revive him.

In Season 2, both Jayce and Singed have crossed the same line without realizing it. Now, they are both willing to manipulate life and death, and Viktor is the living proof of that cycle. What started as a subtle parallel in Season 1 has now become a complete confirmation: Jayce has followed the same path that once left Viktor to walk alone. "Two sides of the same coin, intractably bound. That which inspires us to our greatest good is also the cause of our greatest evil.".

What makes this even more painful is that Jayce never understood Viktor well enough to see it coming. 🔹In Season 1, Jayce let Viktor act alone without realizing the cost of that decision. 🔹In Season 2, he follows the same steps himself, unaware that he's falling into the very thing he once rejected.
