A Headcanon about Verlady:
┎┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈୨♡୧┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┒
I can't help myself but to think of Dante as the "Fairy Godmother" in this relationship. I even have this clear image in my mind of him wearing a shirt with "Verlady's #1 Fan" printed on it.

Lady is struggling with insomnia and discovers that Vergil's bed is the only place she can sleep peacefully - without him in it, of course. Things take a somewhat melancholic turn, however, when she finally asks him where he's been going at night.
@verladyweek Day Six!
Prompt - Sharing A Bed
This took me far too long to write, and I don't even know why... It ended up being longer than I'd planned, and I've been spending days trying to cut it down and make it more streamlined lol. Despite my best efforts I was still working on it today, even though I started it weeks ago.
But! I still have half an hour(ish) to go until midnight in the UK so technically I made it in time! XD

Verlady Week Day 2
Prompt: Bridal Carry
He’d seen the demon approach her out of the corner of his eye, but he’d been focused on his own battle, and anyway, Lady didn’t get hurt. She wasn’t supposed to get hurt.
She was too careful and crafty for that, even when she was surrounded by demons and firing her guns and artfully dodging hits and proving that all her gymnast training as a high schooler hadn’t gone to waste as an adult decades older.
Vergil didn’t worry about Lady, as a rule. But as he saw the Blade’s edged arms cleaving a gash into her side and drawing back for a final blow she had no hope of dodging—not like this, not hunched over the gaping wound in her ribs and, for a second, reeling with pain and shock—he knew that he would remember this in every moment of every future mission.
This time, there were just the two of them. There would be no legendary devil hunter rushing in with a cocksure laugh to swing the Blade into the air. There would be no angry, kindhearted boy to catch Lady as she fell.
There was just Vergil, on the other side of the street, with his hands covered in demon guts and the lust for blood roiling in his stomach and a poor human’s meager life in his hands, which was, historically, not a safe place to be. And yet he made his decision in a second—less than that. He unsheathed the Yamato, tricked across the street, beheaded the Blade with one fatally precise slice, and then caught the stunned, bleeding woman in his arms just as she began to tumble to the ground.
He lifted her, entirely too aware of the warm stickiness of her bloodied skin against his, the brush of her fingers as she struggled against him for a moment, the sudden tension in her body and the billow of her breath against his neck as she gasped in pain and seemed to finally realize the extent of her wound. Vergil stood in a street in Red Grave City, surrounded by dusting demon corpses, a Devil Arm at his side and a human woman in his arms, and knew with a certain pragmatic dispassion that he had made the right choice (one of the few he had ever made), and that he would keep on making it, for as long as she—Lady, Mary, this human—was in danger.

DAY SEVEN: All things end, Dante. Even Verlady Week.
Verlady Nation, I am so happy to be a part of you and to have been a small part of this amazing event week. While the day is not quite over yet, it's getting late in my part of the world, and I want to take the opportunity to say a few things before we all give ourselves and each other a well-deserved pat on the back and say farewell to Verlady Week 2024.
First of all: Thank. You. To all of you. To each and everyone who left a like, shared a post, saw a post and forwarded it to their one (1) friend who they thought could maybe get a kick out of it. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time out of their day to hop over to AO3 and leave a kudos or even a comment on one of the (so far) EIGHTEEN! (pardon my excitement, but that number necessitates all-caps) wonderfully intriguing short stories that have been created for this week - and I know that there are still some stories in the works that are not quite done editing yet. To put this number into perspective, there are - as of the moment of me writing this post - 131 stories in the Lady/Vergil tag on AO3. Which means that almost 14% of all VL stories on AO3 were created in the span of this event week.
Like. You guys. Are beasts. And I say that with awe and adoration.
Thank you to everyone who shared a song - I made a Spotify playlist out of the suggestions and will share it in the masterpost I will compile sometime in the next week.
Thank you for sharing your headcanons and your personal thoughts regarding the intricacies of how you view Verlady's dynamic.
Thank you for all the funny memes! For the photo manipulations! For the renders! Thank you for sharing how Verlady has influenced your real life in small ways, like tiny heart/cheeks on your fingernail.
And I know that was already a very long section of "first of all", but I just wanted to add one last thing:
Thank you so much for every single person who has started a project inspired by this event, regardless of whether you actually finished and shared it or not! All I ever hoped for, was that people would find ways to enjoy this ship and maybe even engage with each other, and I am so happy to say that you have literally made my whole week, I am completely blown away by all of your hard work and the love and support you show each other.
You can still share any works you have not finished yet, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now, it doesn't matter, I got you. Just yell at me give me a ping and I'll reblog your post and add you to the masterlist!
If I have - for whatever reason - NOT reblogged a post you made for this event, please reach out to me! I am so sorry. I promise it was a genuine mistake on my part. I check the event tag regularly, but I might have missed a post or two by accident.
Now, second of all: some of you have already expressed that they would like to see this event return, and I absolutely 100% agree. Next Verlady Week will run from September 8th to September 14th 2025 - and if you happen to have the time or energy for a side hustle, there's always VXLENTINE'S DAY 2025 on February 14th.
Before I go into more detail about the latter, I want to talk about the former for just one more second: I will post a link to a Google form sometime next week, allowing you to anonymously suggest prompts that you'd like to explore or see others explore for Verlady Week 2025. I actually have this huge mountain of unused prompts leftover from brainstorming this year's event, but if any of you have any unfinished WIPs and you think that "oh well, maybe participating in next year's event is that final push of Motivation(TM) I need to finally finish this", then please, toss a fitting suggestion my way and I will do my best to include it. Or if there is any concept you've always wanted to explore with Vergil and Lady, just yell at me over on Google Forms, or in my DMs (@verladyweek or @kintsugicore) or just write a frenzied post here on Tumblr one morning, explaining in excruciating detail how you are haunted by visions of Vergil accidentally becoming a stripper and Lady running into him on her friend's bachelorette party and I will probably nod in agreement and mutter "I bet that is all just one of Dante's elaborate ploys to do the And Now Kiss(TM) with them" and add something like Striptease to the prompt sheet.
There will not be any prompt voting because VXLENTINE'S taught me that there are certain limitations to how well I can restructure my RL to allow me pockets of time to organize forms and polls and put together necessary graphics, etc. But as of now, I don't think voting is necessary. Verlady nation is tiny, and if any of you want to suggest any prompts (would love ideas for any misc. prompts, tbh!), I think it will be easy to fit at least one suggested prompt per person into next year's prompt sheet!
Now. VXLENTINE'S! I am so so sorry that I didn't manage to put together a poll or a prompt post yet. To simplify the process of choosing the next prompt, I have decided to show you the suggestions I received and explain which suggestion I chose to use and why.
Tumblr media
Now, different first meeting is the one person who left empty-handed, but I have decided to carry that prompt over to Verlady Week 2025 instead (so, there's your first prompt, ha!)
VXLENTINE'S DAY 2025 will have the prompt "Sweet Surprise" because I felt it checked the most boxes for prompts suggested. It can be made to fit for a gift, but also for a blind date or first date or any of the other things person #2 suggested, really. Technically, depending on how you envision that Different First Meeting, it could probably work for that one, too.
I will make a proper announcement post for next year's VXLENTINE'S DAY when the dust has settled for a bit and we've all had time to read through everyone's wonderful contributions to Verlady Week and the stress we may have experienced the past few days no longer feels as draining. (And again, you were all so amazing! You did so well! You've put the D in Dedication.)
To close out this already very long post: Verlady Nation is probably among the tiniest little fringe existences in this fandom. It was so nice to be a little louder than we usually are. Thank you again, so much. I hope to see you again in February, and maybe September 2025!
Godspeed and keep on shipping!

I really like the Vergil/Lady ship in dmc and here’s some thoughts I have about them in no particular order.
-  Both Vergil and Lady are stubborn ‘my way or the highway’ kind of people, and they have good reason to be. But that stubbornness also breads violence, so when upset, they tend to lash out without knowing the full situation, though Lady is slightly better at admitting when she’s overreacted. Still, the violence in them would make for pretty interesting interactions. Especially considering Vergil can’t just stab her because she will shoot him back, and if she dies that’ll just start the feud all over again and he’s tired.
- Obviously they both hate Arkham, but what really interests me is that both love their mothers dearly, but Vergil has spent a long time convincing himself he resents her for ‘abandoning’ him. Lady’s relationship with her mother isn’t really talked about, but I’m sure she’s grown to both worship and resent her mother. On one hand, the worship comes from the fact that she’s a martyr, a victim to an evil man’s schemes. Stolen from her long before she should have lost her for now other reason than cruelty and selfishness. On the other hand, why did she choose Arkham in the first place? Why couldn’t her mother see the monster that he was? Those feelings she’d repress hardcore and lean further into loving her mother and seeing her as better than she was. Vergil does the exact same thing, but with his father. He does say he blames weakness no his humanity because Eva couldn’t protect them, but I think on some level he also resents that his father, what he considers to be a powerful being, also was not there to protect all of them. But he can’t hate his father, that would mean hating the reason he’s still alive. I think if they ever got to actually talk about, they’d bond over this ‘I can’t hate the parent I want to because that would mean I’d have to acknowledge the other parent’ feeling. Lady would notice it in Vergil first, being slightly more willing to be vulnerable, might say something in a backhanded way that only Vergil would be able to pick up on, cause backhanded is a second language to him by now.
- And of course Lady doesn’t put up with his shit. As much as it would annoy him that some mere human was calling him out, after seeing his own child and the humanity in Nero that saved him and Dante, he’d give her the time of day he would not many other people. After all, she is one of the few humans able to march into hell and still win- himself non withstanding because he’s that strong of course. But she did fight her way through Temen-ni-gru and he’d respect that. And when he gives just that little bit, she shows him empathy once she really understands why he’s done what he did.
- They also both care deeply for Dante, but due to trauma and pride have to act like they don’t. Once Vergil comes back and they both realize Dante is Not Okay(tm) when he can’t see Vergil, he makes a deal with Lady, Trish, and Nero to keep an eye on him when they can (not realizing Dante’s asked them to keep an eye on Vergil) and Lady’s the one who does it the most often since Nero has the kids and Trish is terrible with getting Dante back on his feet. Lady and Vergil work out a schedule and everything, bickering like an old married couple about Dante.
- Also Vergil and Lady arguing about guns vs devil arms would be extremely amusing. She insists there’s nothing wrong with guns, and Vergil is very much face demons man to man. This kind of spat often ends with them physically coming to blows, but Lady knows he’s not actually going to harm her by this point. He’s not going easy on her, he’d never disrespect her so, but the fights always end with her life and limbs intact. And that’s more than enough reason to keep fighting him. And they come to a grudging admiration of each other’s abilities since Vergil actually honed his skills through years of practice, just as she did, and they both are constantly coming up with new moves to show off and try to win these fights. They still don’t agree on guns versus devil arms, but if they give in, they have no reason to keep fighting.
- Also, after years of dealing with Dante, Lady would actually know when to back off when calling Vergil out. But unlike Dante, Vergil doesn’t joke circles around her, he gets Mean. And those are times they don’t fight with weapons, just words, but it hurts worse like that. But after they’ve both cooled off some, Vergil, older now, wiser than he used to be, does try to make an apology of sorts. He never admits to going overboard, but he brings her things he knows she likes, and she grits her teeth, breathes, and tries again.
- Lady's the one who teaches Vergil how to shoot properly. In dmc3 he was only able to because he was leaning on Dante, but he never bothered to learn how to do it properly. So, to her surprise, he accepts when she teasingly offers to teach him. He’s better than expected, but there’s plenty of room to improve. And he takes that as a challenge, one she’s happy to meet.
- I think about that scene in 3 a lot where she’s sitting there, all slumped over and falling apart after giving Dante Kalina Ann, and Vergil walks right past, and only then does she get up. I like to imagine in my wild shipping delusions that he tells her there she can give up if she wants, but Arkham is of no consequence to the twin’s and their battle and will not be standing in their way much longer. Even if he doesn’t bother her at all, in a way, Vergil’s actions here I think are one of respect. He respects that she wants Arkham dead, and is willing to kill her own father for what he did. But if she’s not going to commit to it, that he does not respect. So if he says something, it’s to motivate her to see if she’ll actually do it. If he doesn’t, it’s because he’s annoyed that she won’t. Years down the line, he’d bring this back up and they’d talk about it, and it’s one of the few times he admits to respecting her at all. Gives her a ton of complicated feelings about it.
- One interesting thing that would come up is when he’s talking to Arkham and mocks him for still having softer feelings towards his daughter. Because Vergil wanted his parents to love him, so he would hold so much disgust towards Arkham and be unable to acknowledge it’s because Arkham is a terrible father. He’d say this, after all these years and after she’s earned his trust, that Arkham should have done better by her.
- I like to think Vergil does actually think highly of her for killing her own bitch of a dad. Lady doesn’t. After all, you never really recover from killing your own parent even if it’s for the right reasons. She tells him that, and mentions that she said the same to Nero. And he thanks her for it. So many softer feelings because he can attribute, at least in part, that he’s alive thanks to her. And even though it’s still a mess in her head about killing Arkham, there’s something really touching about Vergil acknowledging her strength anyway. Of course, some things aren’t said aloud, they just say it in the way they stand a little closer.

I need them to be more than friends 👀
This interaction in DMC5 has a catch, a deeper meaning like the scene in the library in DMC3.

╰┈➤ Verlady Week 2024 Day 1: Misc Promp
Tumblr media
Note: Here in my city it's already september 9th, so, I want to share this right now. I'll have a busy day but I'm excited for this week!
Happy start of Verlady Week! ❤️
@verladyweek
Song that I associate with Vergil and Lady:
▶ Cirice - Ghost
「 ᴠᴏʟᴜᴍᴇ : ▮▮▮▮▮▮▯▯▯ 」
I relate these two a lot to this song because for me, Vergil and Lady have that potential to be able to understand each other much more than they could with Dante. And, taking away the obvious context in which Ghost unfolds, I basically interpret the song as an unspoken understanding, a deep connection between two individuals.
To begin with, the first two verses of the song:
❝I feel your presence amongst us/ You cannot hide in the darkness❞
I can't help but think directly of DMC3, specifically the fact that Vergil was aware of Lady from the moment she stepped on the Temen-ni-gru. He knew every move, even when Arkham supposedly "took over" the unwanted guest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there are these two verses that are key to me:
❝I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart/ I can see through the scars inside you❞
Canonically they didn't interact much, but in that fleeting exchange of words I always seemed to perceive that Vergil somehow saw through Lady, like an open book.
They have some things in common in my opinion, such as that eagerness to be tough in front of others, even in heartbreaking moments. Maybe we didn't see it on stage with Vergil, but we see Lady break down twice during DMC3 and both are when no one is watching her (of course, when Arkham is "dying" she allows it because she thinks he's innocent and didn't count on her father deserving an Oscar for such a good performance).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What more can I say?
Oh, right.
These lines:
❝A candle casting a faint glow/ You and I see eye to eye❞
I can't help but see that in them, especially in this moment:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally this:
❝I know your soul is not tainted/ Even though you've been told so❞
More than anything I see a description of Lady in these words. In DMC3 I see many of Lady's actions – having a hard and cold attitude in front of everyone she comes across – as a way to protect herself and cope with everything she lost, behind all that anger and hunger for revenge. She has that attitude of "I've already lost everything... what else can happen to me? What else can I lose?" then she, in her belief, perceives in herself a premature adulthood; Mary, the "pure and innocent" girl, died with her mother.
And it turns out that she doesn't. The good, pure girl showed a sign of life when she forgave Arkham that last time and called him "father" again, in that naïve, but well-intentioned idea of doing justice to Arkham, because she believed that Vergil orchestrated everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's why, half-dismissively, Vergil calls her "foolish girl." But I feel like there's something in his gaze, beyond his lousy insult intent, if it gets to that level. Calling her "girl" has that hidden meaning for me. Beyond deciphering her, he understands her, he's been in that position before.
Tumblr media
And with that I conclude my crazy ideas.
I would say "yes, it's cinema", but I'm the only one who see it that way.
Maybe the others would say, "They missed a lunatic from Arkham Asylum."

When Lady is injured in battle, Vergil must act quickly to save her—even if it means crossing some boundaries.
Alright it’s happening - It’s @verladyweek !
I tried my best to have something for every day, but due to life commitments there may be some that I have to miss.
Day One’s prompts were Rainy Rendezvous / Huddling For Warmth.
This story also incorporates the Day Four prompts - Scars & Stiches / Confession, so please accept this as my contribution for that day too!
Let me just say this now - I absolutely ADORE rainy stories. Can’t get enough of ‘em! The only problem is that I’ve ended up writing a lot of rainy stories already, so I decided to try something different and go for the Huddling For Warmth prompt! (Although rain still does feature in it a little hehe).
I hope you enjoy, and I can’t wait to see everyone else’s contributions today and for the rest of the week!
For those interested, you can read some of my other stories featuring rain below the cut!
♡ Ko-Fi ♡
And of course...
(Yes it’s long, but there’s rain in there somewhere haha)

Verlady Week Day 3
Prompt: Flirting Under Fire
@verladyweek
Lady peeked around the corner of the building and fired off another shot, ducking back just as a blue orb came whizzing past. It grazed the edge of the building, and chunks of what had previously been sturdy brick dissipated into fine dust. She shook her hair out of her eyes and breathed out a long sigh, catching Vergil’s attention from across the street, hunched behind his own corner store wall. His eyes narrowed. “Are you hurt?” There was a definite growl in his voice, and she smiled at it despite the annoyance that rose at his obvious distraction.
“Do you see me crumbling into dust? I’m fine, Vergil. Focus on your own fight.”
He cast her another glance, apparently not convinced, before twirling Yamato with a fluid grace, parrying one blue orb and reflecting it back into the face of one of the demons who had thrown it. The demon screeched, but the noise faded away as it collapsed to dust. “It’s not much of a fight,” he muttered.
Lady crossed her arms. “You can always go out there and fight them on your own terms. I’m not stopping you.”
Vergil pursed his lips and analyzed the situation yet again: the horde of demons, probably over fifty of them, crowding the isolated, cramped alleyway, all with the capacity to turn them to dust instantly with one lucky stroke; and the two of them—a powerful half-demon and a human with a few guns and an unfortunately broken rocket launcher. He came to the conclusion she knew he would, the same conclusion he had initially suggested not fifteen minutes ago and to which she had reluctantly agreed. “Dante and Nero will be here soon. We’ll wait for them.”
Lady shrugged and returned to firing, stopping to reload. Her bullets weren’t much good against these demons’ tough hides, and if Kalina Ann hadn’t been the first casualty of the evening, she would be in far better form. It wasn’t often that she felt her limitations as the only human in their crew of hunters, but she knew that, though she wasn’t physically stopping Vergil from taking them on himself, most of the reason he hadn’t was so that he could keep an eye on her. It irritated her to no end, but she couldn’t blame him for his sudden turn to seeming altruism. Maybe V was in control in there sometimes.
As they waited and fired and ducked and hoped none of the demons decided to take initiative and figure out where their prey had gone, Lady and Vergil talked. There wasn’t much else to do, and these demons didn’t have good hearing.
“How much would you bet,” Lady called across the street, “that Nero’s proposed to Kyrie already and no one knows?”
Vergil grunted and sent a flaming blue projectile into the horde, eliminating five of them at once and knocking a dozen others to their knees—or the gnarled knots on their legs that passed for knees. “I know better than to bet against you, Mary.”
She rolled her eyes. “Would you quit calling me that? How long has it been?”
“Since you decided to go by that name my idiot brother landed you with? 20 years.”
She glared at him, but saw the teasing quirk at the corner of his mouth. “I’ve told you millions of times not to call me Mary.”
Vergil lazily parried another orb, and she leaned away as it flew a few feet from her to crash into the window of a restaurant. There went one of Dante’s favorite pizzerias. “We both know you don’t really mean it, don’t we?” The smile on his lips lifted into something a little more like his brother’s when Dante was being intentionally obnoxious. “After all, you like it when I call you Mary. I can tell.”
She scoffed, and hoped her hair hid her blush. “You’re bold today.”
He glanced at her and seemed about to reply when Nico’s van came roaring down the street behind them. Before it even screeched to a stop, the red-and-white blur that was Dante flung himself out the passenger window and rolled into a crouch, drawing his sword in the same motion. Behind him, Nero opened the door and stepped out, rolling his eyes. Dante frowned at him. “I thought we were going to make an entrance together! Uncle and nephew, family business, showing these demons who’s boss, all that!”
Nero drew his sword and revved it. “You expect me to follow that? Let’s just get to the fight and I’ll show ‘em.”
Dante strode forward, catching Vergil’s shoulder as he passed. “Oh, did’ya have to take a breather, old man? Is my brother feeling his age?”
Vergil scowled, his previous good humor gone. “We’re the same age, Dante.” He shrugged off Dante’s hand. “We were waiting for reinforcements. Lady was in a precarious situation. It was best to retreat for the time being.”
“Don’t you dare blame this on me, Vergil!” Lady snapped.
Vergil’s eyes flashed. “I’m not blaming—“
“Girls, girls,” Nero called, already running into the fray after Dante. “You can settle this after we’ve finished street cleaning. Maybe you’ll be in a better mood, old man!”
Vergil glanced at Lady again. This time, she could see the genuine fear in his eyes, and she sighed. “Go. I’ll wait here. The first thing I’ll do when we get to the shop is repair Kalina Ann, I’m never getting stuck with a useless piece of—“
And then she wasn’t thinking of Kalina Ann, or the demonic blue orbs whistling past them, because Vergil was suddenly there, and his hands were cupping her cheeks and his lips were pressed against hers, and then he was pulling back with a breath that sounded far too nervous and shaky to belong to him. “Keep safe. I’ve got to stick with my idiot family. And show them how a son of Sparda fights.”
Lady blinked, still feeling the echo of his lips against hers. Distantly, she heard Dante whistle from further down the street and shout something indistinct. Vergil’s brow furrowed and his expression darkened in the unique irritation that only his twin could bring out of him, and Lady wanted to kiss him again and see the crease in his brow become smooth again. But she knew Vergil, driven by that odd mix of protection over Dante and the irresistible urge to show him up on everything, was itching to join him among the horde and either stab him or fight at his side. Lady gripped his hand and squeezed it. “Go on and have some fun before they take it all for themselves. And when we get back to the shop…we’ll have some things to talk about.”
Vergil took a step away, but then he spun back toward her. “Good things?”
“Very good things.”
