Here’s a bit of a departure from my usual art posting but I’d like to get the word out about my dear friend Edrian and his friend Angeles’s endurance performance and hunger strike for a free Palestine in Los Angeles starting today, June 17th. (More info on Edrian’s Instagram and at venerations.cargo.site)

Edrian will begin cutting out paper dolls and ribbons to reach 35,647 of each, reflecting the reported death toll of Palestinians killed by Israel’s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7th. He will not move from the venue until he is done and do nothing aside from cutting with few exceptions made for his own physical and economic survival. In addition to that and to represent a microcosm of the suffering in Gaza and Palestine, he will be on HUNGER STRIKE until he finishes. It’s an impossible task to do alone before starving so audience participation is essential. I’m spreading the word to ask for support through participation!

You can participate in a number of ways (more detailed instructions here):

Spread the word. Word of mouth and social media sharing are crucial as this performance is being promoted pretty exclusively via word of mouth.

Donate money to Palestinian aid funds! Certain high donation amounts can help Edrian continue his endurance performance by allowing him to engage in life-giving activities like showering or socializing with a loved one, and reaching the 100k total goal allows him to end his hunger strike.

If you live in and around Los Angeles, visit the venue (800 Date Ave, Alhambra, CA 91803) There you can help him cut and show your support. ***The performance is on the second floor of the venue and there is no elevator so it is not accessible except by stairs :(

If you don’t live near LA, you can cut paper dolls and mail them to the venue address to count towards the total. (printable templates here) This is what I will be doing. It’s easy to do with any spare time you’re not using your hands. I recommend mailing them in small batches if possible to get them in on time and reduce the risk of losing mail. I also recommend including info about the count of paper dolls in each parcel (for example include a note telling the total number of paper dolls) Every small amount counts!

If you are an Art Center College of Design student or alumni, sign the petition to pressure Art Center to divest from Israel! Art Center has refused to host Edrian and Angeles for their performance, torn down their posters promoting it, and in general refused to take a stance against Israel’s genocide. As artists and human beings we must resist genocide and refuse to support institutions that side against the people.

He is also live-streaming his performance and documenting progress if you would like to show support just by being present.

"He's nothing but trouble, I'm surprised they let him on the carpet after what happened last year," your publicist states matter-of-factly.

"Care to remind me?" you breathe, smiling at the cameras. "He seems like a riot."

Your publicist shoots you a look. "Well, I don't consider getting arrested for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and lewd behavior as something amusing-"

"I don't know, seems like he would be a fun time," you muse, playfully pushing your breasts in Dieter's direction. "I have an idea," Dieter's PA chirps in, "What if we lean into this?"

You scoff, “This is insane. I’m not entering into a fake marriage for the sake of our careers.”

Dieter raises an eyebrow, "But what if it's not entirely fake?"

You glare at him, a mixture of disbelief and annoyance crossing your face. "What do you mean, not entirely fake?"

Dieter leans forward, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "We can keep the public guessing. A little ambiguity goes a long way in the celebrity world. We'll play the part when we need to, but in private, we keep things... interesting."

Your publicist looks skeptical, "That could be a recipe for disaster. What if it backfires? What if the public starts hating both of you?"

Dieter smirks, "Let them talk. Controversy sells, my dear. As long as we control the narrative, we can turn this into a win-win situation."

You cross your arms, feeling a headache coming on. The idea of navigating a fake-real marriage with Dieter is the last thing you want. Yet, there's a strange spark of curiosity. What if this insane plan could actually work?

As you contemplate the proposal, the room is filled with tension, waiting for your response. Dieter raises a curious eyebrow at you, a small smirk playing on his lips as he places his hand on them. He sees you gulp heavily at that, your legs crossing tentatively as you try to play coy.  Ah, yes, sweetheart. I see you. I caught you in my web, and I'm going to consume every fucking inch-

You take a deep breath, considering the options laid out in front of you. The publicist watches you with a mix of concern and caution, awaiting your decision.

"I don't like it," you finally say, your tone firm. "But if it helps me keep my career and get the roles I want, I'll play along. Just remember, Dieter, if this blows up in our faces, it's on you."

Dieter grins, satisfied with your response. "Trust me, darling, this is going to be a wild ride. We'll be the talk of the town."

Your publicist rubs his temples, clearly not thrilled with the plan but realizing the potential benefits. "Fine, let's go with it. But we need a strategy, a narrative that controls the story. And we must be careful not to let things spiral out of control."

Dieter nods, already plotting the next move. "Leave it to me. We'll craft a story that keeps them guessing and wanting more. Our little secret, darling."

"... and there will need to be some ground rules," you say firmly, uncrossing your legs as you adjust yourself in front of Dieter, presenting the fact that you still haven't put on underwear under your dress. Eddie takes care of his girl after her first Rock Concert

Eddie could feel Y/N’s hot breath on the back of his neck as he carried her from the venue to the car.

Half asleep, she grumbled when he hitched her up his back to be able to get his keys from his pocket.

“I know, Sweetheart. I’m sorry. Go back to sleep.”

She nuzzled her nose under the collar of his band shirt and leather jacket before she settled.

He managed to unlock the passenger side door of his van and open it with the limited mobility he had. He let out a sigh as he stared at the sizable space between the ground and the chair.

“This should be interesting,” he murmured.

It took a bit of creative problem solving and a nearly thrown out back, but Eddie Munson still managed to get his beloved girlfriend in the seat without waking her.

He buckled her in and shut the door. He gave a stretch to loosen his sore back as he walked to the drivers side.

He turned the volume dial of his radio down before he switched on his car and began the two hour journey back to Hawkins.

Every now and then, he looked over at Y/N. Her head laid against the headrest, her mouth opened and released soft snores. Her chest rose and fell under the matching tour tee he bought with each of her steady breaths.

He grinned, satisfied. Her first ever live metal concert a success.

The Metalhead pulled up to his trailer and shut off the ignition. He climbed out of the van, and jogged over to the passengers side. The creak of the metal door made him grit his teeth. He held his breath until it was fully open. When he saw her undisturbed, he exhaled.

He grabbed the belt before he unbuckled the seatbelt so that it wouldn't go sliding up and hit her. He gently picked her up. Eddie cradled Y/N in his arms and carried her up to his trailer, using his hip to close the van door.

“Eddie,” she mumbled against his neck, sleepily. “Are we home yet?”

He smiled at the fact she considered his trailer as home. “Almost there, Baby. A few more steps."

Eddie placed her onto his bed. She gave a little stretch before she rolled over and snuggled into his pillow.

He touched the back of her head and ran his ringed fingers through her hair before he leaned in to press a kiss to her temple.

He walked to the end of the bed and gently removed her beat up converse. He stared at the light wash denim she wore.

"Sweetheart," he whispered.

"Hmm?" she responded.

"Is it okay if I take your jeans off so that you can be more comfortable?"

"Pajama pants?"

"Yes. I'll give you my pajama pants."

"The plaid ones."

"Yup."

"Okay," she mumbled before she buried her face into his pillow.

He removed her jeans and replaced them with his well worn plaid PJ pants. He grabbed the blanket off of the end of the bed and draped it over her.

He kicked off his own shoes and removed his jeans, vest, and leather jacket. Eddie climbed in behind her and pressed his chest to her back. His arm wrapped around her waist and gently held her.

Y/N unconsciously snuggled back into him. Eddie grinned into her hair as his eyes slipped shut.

"Night, Eddie."

first and foremost is Bataille’s Erotism: Death and Sensuality which is expressly about this. everywhere you turn while researching this subject, Bataille will be mentioned. inclusive of this is a foray into religious eroticism/divine love/mysticism and elements of dissolution/continuity, violation and violence, aberration, so on... "There is no better way to know death than to link it with some licentious image." (pdf)

also v central are Freud’s theories surrounding our competing Eros/Thanatos drives, in which (as a very reductive summation) “the death instinct pervades sexual activity”; Freud also touches on dissolution, displacement and 'higher order/form'—you can see here one of the many ways Freud influenced Bataille's theories/writings. ultimately we might agree that the drives, rather than competing, are irreparably intertwined. The group appeared on pink carpet dressed in custom-made iconic dresses from Barbie movies. Dressed as Odette from Barbie Swan Lake, Chloe stunned with platinum blond hair with bleached brows, her dewy makeup giving her an ethereal and unforgettable look. Yoonah stood in the center dressed in an iridescent pink dress, paying homage to Clara of Barbie and The Nutcracker, dawning new blond hair as well. Jiah and Sena caused "The Princess and the Pauper" to trend on Twitter, posing hand in hand in their coordinating dresses and pretty smiles.
