Here’s a bit of a departure from my usual art posting but I’d like to get the word out about my dear friend Edrian and his friend Angeles’s endurance performance and hunger strike for a free Palestine in Los Angeles starting today, June 17th. (More info on Edrian’s Instagram and at venerations.cargo.site)

Edrian will begin cutting out paper dolls and ribbons to reach 35,647 of each, reflecting the reported death toll of Palestinians killed by Israel’s genocide in Gaza since Oct. 7th. He will not move from the venue until he is done and do nothing aside from cutting with few exceptions made for his own physical and economic survival. In addition to that and to represent a microcosm of the suffering in Gaza and Palestine, he will be on HUNGER STRIKE until he finishes. It’s an impossible task to do alone before starving so audience participation is essential. I’m spreading the word to ask for support through participation!

You can participate in a number of ways (more detailed instructions here):

Spread the word. Word of mouth and social media sharing are crucial as this performance is being promoted pretty exclusively via word of mouth.

Donate money to Palestinian aid funds! Certain high donation amounts can help Edrian continue his endurance performance by allowing him to engage in life-giving activities like showering or socializing with a loved one, and reaching the 100k total goal allows him to end his hunger strike.

If you live in and around Los Angeles, visit the venue (800 Date Ave, Alhambra, CA 91803) There you can help him cut and show your support. ***The performance is on the second floor of the venue and there is no elevator so it is not accessible except by stairs :(

If you don’t live near LA, you can cut paper dolls and mail them to the venue address to count towards the total. (printable templates here) This is what I will be doing. It’s easy to do with any spare time you’re not using your hands. I recommend mailing them in small batches if possible to get them in on time and reduce the risk of losing mail. I also recommend including info about the count of paper dolls in each parcel (for example include a note telling the total number of paper dolls) Every small amount counts!

If you are an Art Center College of Design student or alumni, sign the petition to pressure Art Center to divest from Israel! Art Center has refused to host Edrian and Angeles for their performance, torn down their posters promoting it, and in general refused to take a stance against Israel’s genocide. As artists and human beings we must resist genocide and refuse to support institutions that side against the people.

He is also live-streaming his performance and documenting progress if you would like to show support just by being present.

the car ride to the venue was so exciting for you. having only been with schlatt a few months, you hadn’t been to a streamers event before. “this is gonna be so fun jay! we’re gonna take pictures and you’re nominated! i think you’re gonna win personally.”

he rolled his eyes at the thought of him winning. “‘m glad you’re excited toots. at least one of us is.” you knew he wasn’t the biggest fan of going out, much rather wanting to spend the night back home in austin with you and jambo instead of being in smoggy old la. “c’mon baby, you’ll have fun trust me.” ���i think having you bent over the bed would be more fun but okay.” he muttered under his breath.

you were right of course, sitting at the table with his fellow nominees ted and charlie, he started to loosen up a bit. drinks were flowing, laughs were being had, and schlatt started to ease up. “the nominees for best new podcast are…” ethan nestor started reading out their category. “oooh baby listen up!”

schlatt felt his nerves jump back up, he didn’t care about winning honestly. you were just so excited for him and the guys, he didn’t want to disappoint you.

“and the winners of best new podcast are….” you held schlatts hand tightly with one hand while you bit your nails on the other. “chuckle sandwich!” a camera panned over to your table and the guys all got up to go on stage, right after kissing their dates.

“thank you all so much for this amazing award, i think i speak for all of us when i say we definitely didn’t expect to be nominated let alone win. thank you to the fans for tuning in every week and we hope you keep listening!” ted spoke eloquently, a perfect acceptance speech; short and sweet.

once back at the table, his hand made its way to your thigh. “hey doll, don’tcha think i deserve a winner’s reward when we get back to the hotel?” he whispered in your ear then kissed your neck. his hand rubbed your thigh, inching closer and closer to your core. you squeezed them closer together, attempting to block his hand from his target.

the drive home was an entirely different vibe, schlatts hand was ghosting against your center, teasing you through your underwear. “couldn’t even wait for me to celebrate with my friends? needed me that badly huh doll?” he smirked at you while his fingers grabbed a hold of your panties and pulled them to the side. “s’fuckin’ wet for me…”

Half asleep, she grumbled when he hitched her up his back to be able to get his keys from his pocket.

“I know, Sweetheart. I’m sorry. Go back to sleep.”

She nuzzled her nose under the collar of his band shirt and leather jacket before she settled.

He managed to unlock the passenger side door of his van and open it with the limited mobility he had. He let out a sigh as he stared at the sizable space between the ground and the chair.

“This should be interesting,” he murmured.

It took a bit of creative problem solving and a nearly thrown out back, but Eddie Munson still managed to get his beloved girlfriend in the seat without waking her.

He buckled her in and shut the door. He gave a stretch to loosen his sore back as he walked to the drivers side.

He turned the volume dial of his radio down before he switched on his car and began the two hour journey back to Hawkins.

Every now and then, he looked over at Y/N. Her head laid against the headrest, her mouth opened and released soft snores. Her chest rose and fell under the matching tour tee he bought with each of her steady breaths.

He grinned, satisfied. Her first ever live metal concert a success.

The Metalhead pulled up to his trailer and shut off the ignition. He climbed out of the van, and jogged over to the passengers side. The creak of the metal door made him grit his teeth. He held his breath until it was fully open. When he saw her undisturbed, he exhaled.

He grabbed the belt before he unbuckled the seatbelt so that it wouldn't go sliding up and hit her. He gently picked her up. Eddie cradled Y/N in his arms and carried her up to his trailer, using his hip to close the van door.

“Eddie,” she mumbled against his neck, sleepily. “Are we home yet?”

He smiled at the fact she considered his trailer as home. “Almost there, Baby. A few more steps."

Eddie placed her onto his bed. She gave a little stretch before she rolled over and snuggled into his pillow.

He touched the back of her head and ran his ringed fingers through her hair before he leaned in to press a kiss to her temple.

He walked to the end of the bed and gently removed her beat up converse. He stared at the light wash denim she wore.

"Sweetheart," he whispered.

"Hmm?" she responded.

"Is it okay if I take your jeans off so that you can be more comfortable?"

"Pajama pants?"

"Yes. I'll give you my pajama pants."

"The plaid ones."

"Yup."

"Okay," she mumbled before she buried her face into his pillow.

He removed her jeans and replaced them with his well worn plaid PJ pants. He grabbed the blanket off of the end of the bed and draped it over her.

He kicked off his own shoes and removed his jeans, vest, and leather jacket. Eddie climbed in behind her and pressed his chest to her back. His arm wrapped around her waist and gently held her.

Y/N unconsciously snuggled back into him. Eddie grinned into her hair as his eyes slipped shut.

"Night, Eddie."

“Goodnight, Sweetheart.”

saw the musical!!!!

not sure if there's a point to just noting every thing I liked about the musical in general (too much to count), but here are some bits i specifically liked a lot about the exact experience I had in orlando on the 20th of january 2025.

as is public information, the cast was Morgan Traud (Amanda et al) James Lynch (Adam et al) and Adam Forward (Lawrence et al). I would let any and all of them have my kidneys. There are a good number of recordings (within the context) of James and Morgan performing on YouTube. I have not yet found Adam Forward singing any of his songs, and he was so funny and perfect for the role that this is a crime. please let me know where I can see more than the 1 minute video my friend has of him cutting his foot off <3

I really specifically like the exact bit of condom dialogue during wrong place, wrong time that they gave us yesterday: (upon pulling out the huge strips of condoms) "would you believe these were a gift..?" "FROM WHO?" "...my mom" - (he may have actually said "my mommy", but I have the memory of someone who benefits from all the flashbacks in these movies) anyway I really like that way of doing it

every actor for Adam online of course does his faggy little voice but OH MAN. James was COMICALLY whiney the entire show. I cannot make it clear to what extent this was, because looking at videos over time is indicating that he started off like a year ago being a bit whiney and has ramped it up immensely over time

Is the pig mask meant to fall apart before the Amanda then/now song? the hair was on one end of the stage and the pig head was on the other.

At Lawrence's request for applause during You Make it Hard For Me, the crowd went wild. In the same vein, there were a couple bits where Morgan RELISHED in the applause. damn right queen. I believe it was after Amanda's first song she just stood and nodded. Then after the Alison/Zep fight she gestured for more applause when it started dying off and then silenced the crowd after a few moments (a la Farquaad in shrek the musical, if I'm honest).

Honestly I think the audience was just really reactive versus certain recordings. The first song was a bit of a struggle for me to hear, but everything else it really enhanced my enjoyment getting to have other people laugh along at the "key in your eye" bit and such. Like yes! community!

GOING BACK A COUPLE, there was a bit during You Make it Hard For Me where the blowup doll pegs Lawrence. Very Funny.

Another bit idk if it's regularly what happens, but when James went to break the mirror the second time, he entirely missed the mirror. hit nowhere near it. and then there was just glass confetti out of nowhere.

That happened a lot, actually. James and Adam both committed so hard to the shitty overhand throws that there were several points where they had to throw things twice. I may be misremembering, but when James had to throw Adam the key for the box, he essentially threw it at the floor 2 or 3 times, prompting "I've been on stage right this whole time" before there was a successful throw

Every time an actor made eye/camera contact while I was photographing them, I was so embarrassed. i promise i was not bootlegging, I just needed literally 200 photos of what is to date one of my best days of all time

it was a small venue, so billy's handler started down on the floor with his trike after Amanda's song. he gave up after going maybe 5 feet and then carried it most of the way onstage

Certainly not specific to this showing but oh my GOD the apartment kidnapping combat goes so hard. Accidentally started cheering when she took that twink down, apologies.

Related: the violence of the foot-sawing and gunshot both hit so perfectly. both of them were so physically impactful, because Adam and James both lined up perfectly the blood/movements/sounds to the point that I was shocked it could be done with blood packs.

That is except of course when Adam seemed to recognize the splatters were not actually reaching the splash zone and purposefully started flinging blood into the audience. 10/10

Not technically in regards to the show itself, but afterwards I bought a bit of merch and was stood nearby to the table gushing to my friends when the man selling things got my attention to give me a not-yet-for-sale design they're testing for some sort of trading card of adam?? exhilarating, I feel so honored <33

yoonah gasping "karol g?!" when being told by a reporter that karol would be on the carpet. the pair would later take a photo together and yoonah would go onto say her dreams came true that night.

deepdive pulling out pink lemonade caprisuns for the whole group. no one knows where they kept them but they had one for all 12 of them.

Belasco Theater, LA, 12/8/23

I’m often asked why I go to so many Dolls shows. It’s a big question with a complicated answer, but a major factor is the crowds. Most of my closest friends and almost every cool person I know I met at a Dresden Dolls show, and this one continued the trend.

I met Dolly, who had actually responded to a general call on the Facebook group and sent me a birthday card in October. She regaled us with tales of the decade she spent traveling around the country by hopping trains.

We also met Natalie and Julia, a dynamic sister duo. Natalie is a Dolls fan but Julia was tagging along out of solidarity - sisterhood is strong. They were delightful, but Natalie has been saddled with club thumbs, a genetic defect that was common amongst European royalty due to inbreeding. Drawing conclusions from that is left as an exercise to the reader. The venue was larger (~1500) and less intimate (a barrier kept the crowd back from the stage) than the recent run of shows, but the band was better rehearsed and well rested and provided the extra energy needed to overcome these issues. I generally prefer my Dresden Dolls shows with a soupçon of chaos, but watching the band flex their performance chops with virtuosity was inspiring. Annotated Set List:

There was a break in the set as Amanda warned that they were about to launch into a bunch of new songs and gave a lengthy explanation of how the Dresden Dolls are fundamentally a live band and need to work things out on stage. “The thing about playing these new songs is like they’re not quite ready, so if they suck a little bit know that we are going to continue to rehearse them and make them suck less.”

Then Brian explained that Amanda was nervous about playing the new songs and was delaying the inevitable by talking, which shamed her into proceeding into the new material, which has, in fact, gotten tighter and better over the past year. The new album is going to be fire.

Mister God - Despite Boyfriend in a Coma being officially dubbed Tom’s New Favorite Song in Orlando, I think this one is actually my new favorite.

Houdini - This is a close second in the New Favorite Song sweepstakes, which is a bit surprising since I typically prefer the bangers to the slower songs, but this one has power.

Amsterdam (Jacques Brel cover) - Amanda headed up to the balcony for this one, as is tradition.

Another Christmas (Brian on guitar, Amanda on jingle bells) - An original Christmas song that is exactly as sad and depressing as you would expect. At this point there was a medical emergency in the crowd and the house lights came up as they took someone out in a wheelchair. The response from the security team, the band, and the crowd was stellar all around.

Boyfriend in a Coma - This is a “new” song that was actually written 20 years ago and recently resurrected for the new album. It was written about an old boyfriend who almost died, and, coincidentally, Amanda reconnected with him and is dating him again. But she dusted the song off BEFORE reconnecting, in a cosmic coincidence.

The Runner - This is essentially a run-down of Amanda’s dating history in song form.

The Nail featuring the new third member of the Dresden Dolls: Amanda’s new Moog synthesizer.

Coin-Operated Boy - Amanda paused after the first few bars to comment on the harsh transition from The Nail, which is slow and contemplative, and Coin-Op, which is … not.

Half Jack - It’s traditional to do a long intro that starts minimalist and slowly builds to launch the song, but tonight Brian took it to the next level. After the show I told Amanda if they did a show that was just Half Jack with a 2hr intro I would be here for it. She said that they actually did that at one of the shows they opened for Panic at the Disco! because they were so fed up on that tour.

Girl Anachronism - The original set list had Sing as the closer but Amanda called an audible, which was a solid choice after the medical emergency had drained the energy from the room.
