There's so many people in Qymaen's story that we get to see so little of--a story, a passing glance, an object hastily passed on before time swallows it whole. Is this how they are in Qymaen's mind too? Death, after all, takes too many far too soon on Kalee. How much does he remember of his father, besides hands, larger and rougher than his own easing his fingers onto the trigger an Outlander rifle? Of his mother--no, a mother is not spoken of; we cannot say for certain that was someone he knew. And then there is Outlander itself, left by a great-grandmother decades gone, who had used it to defend a Republic that did not care whether she lived or died. Did her story outlast her? Did it tell Qymaen, even before he was old enough to know politics and war, that those who ruled from the Core could not be trusted? Or did it too, ebb until all that remained was her weapon, and the fleeting sense, that whenever Qymaen raised it, there was someone there beside him, steadying him with scarred yet gentle hands, and whispering in his ear that he is greater than what the world makes of him.

You moved to Japan alone after high school to continue your studies. You met Bakugou at your part-time job and he acknowledged your strength and quirk and offered for you to work as his sidekick part-time. Your relationship grew from there and now you two are married. Obviously there was a lot of controversy from back home about your marriage but in the end it was all settled and you two are now happily married and live in his condo in Musutafu. He's currently Number 2 hero and you guys are around 25 years old.

One day after patrol, Bakugou comes back home quite tired. It wasn't a hard day per se, but he was still quite exhausted from patrolling and doing paperwork all day. He opens the door and walks in and calls out to you, "I'm home, love". As he removes his shoes by the door, he hears your footsteps rushing up to him and he smiles softly.

"Welcome home, Katsuki!" You smile and rush up to him to hug him. He hugs you back and the smell of spices fill his nostrils as you hug him.

"Come in! I have a special something cooking in the kitchen!" You beckon him in and lead him to the kitchen. As soon as you guys enter the kitchen, the smell of spices and chicken snacks him in the face.

"I called my mom and asked for her recipe for Biriyani today! My mom's Chicken Biriyani! I can't wait for you to try it" You smile excitedly at him.

He laughs at your antics and ruffles your hair, happy at your excitedness. You make all his worries and tiredness wash away so quickly with your smile.

"Can't wait to try it babe, but I'm pretty sure it won't be up to par to my cooking" he says smugly to which you retaliate with a smack on his arm. He laughs as he pulls you into a hug and kisses your head. "I'm sure it will taste amazing"

You smile and hum as you smush your face into his chest. You push him away and demand he take a bath as you finish up the meal. He rolls his eyes and ruffles your hair again and walks to bathroom, laughing when he hears you whine about your hair.

After his bath he joins you at the table, where you have the food all ready to eat. He notices a spoon and fork next to his plate and a lack of utensils next to yours. He looks at you with a questioning look.

"What? You expect me to eat biriyani with a spoon? Nuhuh I'm not disrespecting my ancestors like that"

He rolls his eyes and sits down.

"Well then why do you have a spoon and a fork out for me? Shouldn't I eat with my hand as well?" He looks at you quizzically.

It's your turn to roll your eyes.

"I won't force you to eat with your hand when you're not used to it even if the food is traditionally supposed to be eaten by hand. Just eat however you want."

You both smile at each other and you look at him expectantly as he takes the first bite of the biriyani.

His face is stoic for the first few seconds and then his face lights up at the taste he's feeling. He looks at you with wide eyes and then back at his plate. Your face brightens as you know what the magic of Biriyani can be and smile smugly to yourself.

"That...is the best bite of food I've ever tasted"

You laugh as you watch him eat hungrily, only stopping to gulp down water in between. You start eating too, and moan at the taste melting on your tongue as you feel suddenly so at home.

You both laugh and talk all the while you guys eat, him occasionally spewing praises at the flavours of the dish. After you're done eating, he helps you clean up and as you guys finish up, your phone rings. It's your mum. You pick up the phone.

"Ah Amma? Ahh njangal kazhichu. Ahh avanu ishtappettu! Ah amme, amma paranja pole thanneya undakkiye. Aa sheri sheri njaan vekka tto. Sheri sheri."

Bakugou looks at you perplexed but patiently as he watches your conversation. "Soo?"

You smile. "It was my mom. She was asking how the food was and if you liked it or not. She also asked me to send a picture of it." You laugh.

Bakugou smiles softly and nods. After the cleaning up, you both sit with each other on the couch and talk about your day.

"Oh! Katsuki, before I forget I need to tell you something"

He looks at you and waits for you to keep talking.

"My parents have asked me to return home to celebrate Vishu with them this year."

His face drops slightly but he nods. It's understandable. Your family wants you home for the festival. And you always talked very excitedly about the festivals back home, so he would never stop you from going.

"...And they've specifically asked me to bring you with me, if you're free."

His eyes shot up to yours as he stared at you.

"...Really? They want me there?"

You smiled at him. "Of course they want you there, you're their son-in-law! Why wouldn't they want you there?"

His heart swells with emotion as he thinks of spending your festival with you. At your home. With your family.

"Soo would you be available to come with me?-"

"Yes!" He cleared his throat, slightly embarrassed at his enthusiasm. "I mean..sure... I could adjust my schedule to make some time.."

You beam at him and pounce on him to capture him in a tight hug.

"Thank you Katsuki! You're the best! I'll make sure you have a great time!"

He hugs you back and smiles softly. He sighs dramatically.

"You and your family are gonna get me killed one day, woman."

You laugh and blow a kiss at him.

"I need to go call my mum and tell her to buy you a set of shirt and dhoti!"

Supplement 2: Conversations and some reading notes

The last two lessons had way too many tables and since I said that once pronouns and question words are learnt you’re good to go conversing, let’s see a simple conversation.

Noun vocab:

பேர் - name

வீடு - house

நன்பன் - male friend

All of the bolded words are the ones that we have come across in the last two lessons, the red ones, the noun vocab introduced above and the purple ones were introduced in the previous lessons. The green ones are the names you can substitute with your own.

வணக்கம், என் பேர் முருகன். ( hi, my name (is) Murugan)

உங்கள் பேர் என்னது? (What is your name)

என் பேர் ப்ரியா (my name (is) Priya)

இது யார்? (Who is this? *points to a person nearby)

இது குமார், இவன் என் நன்பன் (this (is) Kumar, he is my friend)

ஆ, சரி (oh ok) (*this can come of as quite rude, but for the sake of simplicity let’s keep it this way)

உங்கள் வீடு எங்க இருகிறது (இருக்கு)? (Where is your house?)

அங்க தான் இருக்கிறது (இருக்கு) (it is there only *points to a far off location)

போகலாமா? ( shall we go?)

As you can see from the conversation above you can pretty much have a basic conversation with a native speaker if you understand the pronoun lessons because after that all you have to do is insert the nouns and verbs and at the beginning you can just use English words as substitutes as you build up vocabulary. Secondly, notice how the words that aren’t mentioned highlighted in the conversation above always come at the end, this is because it is an SOV language so verbs always come at the end and being able to identify that when listening will help when trying to understand what a speaker is saying.

Below is an example by a speaker who came to Tamil Nadu and their way of acquiring the language.

My first interaction with a Tamilian.

Me: Uncle, half litre milk please.

15 days later.

Me: Anna, half litre paal. ( Paal - Milk)

1 month later.

Me: Anna, ara litre paal. ( Ara- Half)

2 months later.

Me: Anna, ara litre paal kudunga. ( Bro, please give me half litre milk)

6 months later.

Me: Anow, ara litre paal eduthu vekka sonnene, vachingala? ( Bro, I asked you to keep aside half litre milk. Did you do it?)

Reading Tamil can be quite difficult because of the allophonic nature of the stop consonants i.e (க், ச், ட், த், ப், ற்) [see lesson 2]. Let’s see an English example: cat, car; in these two examples the a is pronounced differently. Tamil follows the same concept but the script gives a clue: க்க், க்__ are both pronounced [k] and _க்_, _ங்க்_ are pronounced [g]. The repetition of the same letter twice is called gemination i.e க்க் means that க் has been geminated. Examples with these consonants are given below.

பாட்டு [pāttu] song, பாடு [pādu] sing

திரும்பு [thirumbu] return, திருப்பு [thiruppu] turning

The gemination of consonants is important even for other consonants. Geminated consonants are pronounced a bit longer and can change the meaning of a word significantly.

1. பயன் [payan] usefulness, பய்யன் [payyan] boy

2. கன்னம் [kannam] cheek, கனம் [kanam] thickness

3. பணம் [paNam] money , பண்ணு [paNNu] make/do

On hearing this, Kani Kannan said that all the poems and songs that comes from the mouth of Thirumizhisai Alwar belongs to Srivaikundanathan and it is impossible for him to come to the palace and sung a poem on praising the king. On hearing this, he showed lots of gold ornaments, silver items, Diamonds etc to Kani Kannan and since he being very close to Thirumizhisai Alwar, atleast he could sing a poem on praising him. But, Kani Kannan refused to do so and said he will not sing any song on praising the humans. The King got angry on hearing this and ordered him to get out from Kanchi at once. Kani Kannan went to Thirumizhisai Alwar and explained all about that had happened in the palace and prepared to start getting out from Kanchipuram. On seeing this, Thirumizhisai Alwar also prepred to start from Kanchi leaving along with Kani Kannan. So, he too started along with him. While they were going, he sung a song on the Yadhothakari Perumal as Kani Kannan is leaving Kanchipuram, he is also going along with him and Alwar asks the Perumal to get up from his Aadhisheshan, which is the bed for him and roll it and wants him to quit from Kanchi. The Perumal also got out from Kanchipuram following the Alwar and Kani Kannan. On hearing this, the king and all the people of Kanchi, begged Kani Kannan to return back to Kanchipuram. Kaleesh Week Day 5 - Wives

Downtime between battles leaves Vekka jai Kandakis (that is, Qy's adoptive grandmother) and her lovers with some time to spend together.

Well, without people shooting at them, anyways. (Vekks is the one in the middle, the one at her left is...maybe Rallia? And idk the name of the one sitting below her, but I'll call her Mechanist for now)

Vekka jai Kandakis! I think I've spoken on Qy's grandmother once before, but she's a a bit different in the weird little AU I've got going on for Kalee. For one, she's fighting the Yam'rii, not the Bitthævrians (though the Bitthævrians are on the Yam'rii's side, and inter-planetary politics, etc. etc.), and she's more or less, the victor, driving them off of Kalee for...well, at least a little while (eventually, they get trickier, then come back at about the time Qy is born). So how does that happen? And who the heck is Kandakis anyways? She was born the heir to the jai clan, back before the jai clan was a big deal (that actually could probably be attributed to her more than anyone else), and most of the Kaleesh alliances were formed. Kalee was under attack and the Yam'rii were, by all accounts, winning. When she's in her late teens, her father is killed in a largely unwinnable battle and she takes on leadership of the clan. Haunted by his death, which she had been there to see, the already intense young khan starts a relentless, terrifyingly well-planned campaign against the Yam'rii and does what no one one had managed yet-- to win. And then win again. With each success, narrow as they often were, other clans started to turn to the jai for leadership in the chaos and atrocity of this invasion, forming the first kolkpravis. With the diplomatic bonds, however, came the need for generals, and with generals came, for the first time in Kandakis' life, comrades. Some of whom, like the two women in the image above, she loved.

As more and more of Kalee came together (excepting some isolationists, such as Aschal-Kalee, home of the San clan), the khan--now khagan--'s victories continued, and they managed to push the insectoid colonists from their base on the equator of the planet, and into their last and largest stronghold Ti'rrinoa in one of the small islands between the southern Tarili islands and Grendaju to the south. This, at last, earned the khagan the name she is best known by-- Kandakis, or, "favored one", as the intervention of the dead was said to have played no small role in her ability to re-take almost all of Kalee, and moreover with no losses among her spouses and closest generals. Yet this was soon to change. The kolkpravis mounts its first assault on Ti'rrinoa, yet this time, the Yam'rii had prepared, and, sending a desperate message to their homeworld, secured a small star destroyer from the Republic which fires upon the Kaleesh forces. The loss of life is immense, and includes, not just one but all of Kandakis' spouses. She has known grief-- known it many times before, but not in this magnitude. When she looks up at the sky and sees not the stars, but the ship that stole her lovers' lives, she vows, quietly, below her breath. to burn the entire stronghold to the ground. The plan, in some ways, is simple. She surrenders herself to the Yam'rii, knowing well that they will bring her before their leaders on their homeworld for execution-- from a shuttle that departs from the destroyer above. If she looses her bonds-- and she does-- she can fight her way to the bridge and, should the gods grant her this one last favor, send the entire ship crashing into the stronghold below. It's an act of sacrifice, yet in some ways also a rejection of her own life-- for Kandakis does not know how to start again, after the loss of those who she had loved for so many years. And yet-- the gods grant her one more favor than she wanted, asked for-- she survives. Rising from the wreckage, she rejects the role of khagan, the aftermath of the war, even her name, for Kandakis seems but a cruel joke after all she has endured. Instead, she takes the name Kull-- the Kaleesh term for the dead that wander, unable to reach their kin in the stars--and returns to the steppes she had once grown up on, hoping to find some solace in their stark beauty. Instead, she meets a young Kaleesh, angry at the world, and far, far too eager to be a part of the ashes of her life.
