The Wheel of the Year: Ostara
Tumblr media
Photo by Anna Bratiychuk on Unsplash   ☽🔮☾🕯🃏🌕🕸✨🍃🍄🧿🌙✩ 🪄📚
In Wicca as in witchcraft, festivals and festivities are held in high regard as important occassions to reflect on ourselves, on the universe and on goals at large. They are also a moment to take a pause and partake in nature, celebrate and spend time with loved ones (or with yourself, if you are a solitary witch), or to communicate and honour your deities. Every witch festivity celebrates a season or the middle point between two of them, and that is how we have a festival roughly every month and a half.
After the new year, the first one we encounter is Imbolc, while the second in Ostara. Ostara is celebrated often from the 20th to the 22th of March (or 20th to 22th September in the Southern hemisphere) and it celebrates the Spring Equinox. As Ostara celebrates the beginning of spring, it carries with it meanings of renewal, of new beginnings, birth, and new life and hope rekindled.
In origin, this festivity celebrated the goddess Eostre, an ancient goddess of dawn, spring and fertility. Her name, and the images we associate with her, gave us much of the folklore surrounding Ostara and the festivities that derived from it (Easter bunny and Easter eggs, anyone?).
Eostre and Ostara both have associations to new beginnings, renewals and fresh starts. Likewise, they also are associated with births, new life, fertility and change. Ostara is a good moment to reflect on the past and prepare ourselves for the future, to set new goals and to start over. It is also an occassion to overview the past, come to terms with it and be at peace with change. This is the season to plant your seeds to have a bountiful harvest in summer, and the moment where animals are born. The Earth is coming alive again.
This festival is often associated with the maiden aspect of the triple moon, and with youthful deities. It is a good moment to honour Persephone or Cybelles, Freya, Osiris, Ceres... but also those associated with beauty such as Venus or Aphrodite.
As you can probably guess there are plenty of traditions associated with Easter, a lot of them fairly well known after being popularized by christianity: some meditate, reflect or pray to their deities, while some fast (or refrain from eating meat) and others feast (particularly on foods related to fertility, such as milk, eggs...)
If you'd like to celebrate Ostara, here are some good traditions to do so:
-Fast: Fasting can be a good way to keep in touch with yourself, and truly reflect on how scarce food can be to some. Fasting or refraining from eating certain types of food can be a show of devotion to deities, but also a great way to appreciate the sacrifices made for the food you eat and to truly become grateful for food and for the way it nourishes your body.
-Feast: Just like with any other witchy festivity Easter is a lovely time to enjoy food and partake in merrymaking. Eat well, share your meal with your loved one and rejoice in foods associated with fertility, spring and new beginnings: eggs, milk, cheese, meat, anything that includes flowers... Don't forget the chocolate ! -Easter egg hunt: Egg hunts are perhaps one of the most well known activities of Easter/Ostara. They are fun and lovely for both children and adults, and while they are best practiced in a group, you can absolutely enjoy them alone: take a walk in the woods and notice athe offerings that nature might have left for you there: flowers, feathers... Make sure to ask nature before you take anything, and thank it profusely after you do !
-Give it a witchy spin: Not a fan of searching for chocolate eggs? Vegan? That's not a problem. Turn your easter egg hunt into an even witchier affair: hide crystals, bundles of flowers or herbs, incense or cool rocks for your group to find. If you are doing this in a public space make sure to clean up afterwards!
-Spring cleaning: What better time to cleanse and make room for new beginnings than Easter? Clean up your house thoroughly, perhaps with some Ostara herb infused cleanser? Don't forget to protect your house and yourself afterwards!
-Fertility and love rituals: Spring is a time associated with births, so if you are looking for one of your own what better time to pamper yourself and throw yourself and your significant one a little party? The rituals can be as complex as a full blown, hour long complex spell or as simple as taking a rose water infused bath, whatever fits your schedule and needs best.
-Self love rituals: Self love is love all the same, and since Spring is associated with love this sort of ritual is also fitting for this season. Buy yourself some chocolate dipped strawberries and drink some champagne in the bath, oh my!
-Offerings for your deity: Your deities always appreciate proofs of devotion and those related to Spring will be particularly happy to receive some love for Ostara. Some offerings that are particularly fitting for the season might be flowers, decorated eggshells or small feathers.
-Decorate your altar: Deck your altar in the colours of the season, and add some fitting decorations. For Ostara, green, white and any sort of pastel colour will work perfectly. Effigies of baby animals are another excellent decorations and so are flowers, eggshells or eggs, feathers and crystals related to the season.
Colours associated with Ostara: White, green, pastels Crystals associated with Ostara: Amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, moonstone Food associated with Ostara: Egg, dairy, grains, meat I hope you have enjoyed this post. The Best Hair Growth Products
The best hair growth best products can help stimulate follicles, strengthen strands and give you that added volume. These products include scalp treatments, serums and vitamins.
This bestseller is a favorite of Amazon customers and celebrities, with one shopper noting that it "makes my hair super thick." It contains a slew of haircare hero ingredients including saw palmetto, rosemary and biotin.
Hers Triple Threat Shampoo with Saw Palmetto
This shampoo is designed to strengthen hair and add volume, with a formula that contains biotin, saw palmetto, pumpkin seed oil, and glycerin. It also washes away excess sebum, which can shrink hair follicles.
Reviewers love the fact that it hydrates hair, reduces breakage, and helps thicken and re-grow locks. It has a fresh, clean scent that’s a blend of jasmine and bergamot.
Hers offers bundles and systems that combine the shampoo, conditioner, minoxidil drops, and biotin gummies. Their product page claims that these products work together to help you grow your hair and even regrow it if you’re losing it.
Hair Regrowth 2% Topical Minoxidil Solution
If you’re looking for a hair growth solution with the star ingredient minoxidil, you’ll want to try Virtue’s Flourish Minoxidil Hair Regrowth Treatment. It comes in three, six, or 12-month bundles and is cruelty-free and vegan.
This prescription product uses 2% minoxidil to stimulate deadened hair follicles and help stop hair loss and thinning. The formula also includes ginseng, which has been shown to reduce DHT levels and saw palmetto, which works as a DHT blocker.
Apply one mL twice per day and follow the enclosed instructions for use. Keep out of the reach of children.
Pura D’Or Herbal Hair Loss Prevention Shampoo
This sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner set is made with natural ingredients and is formulated to prevent hair loss, improve hair volume, and promote healthy growth. It’s also a cruelty-free product and manufactured at a renewable energy source plant in Southern California.
This shampoo contains ingredients such as saw palmetto (a popular DHT blocker), nettle, and a blend of other herbs that help support hair growth. It also includes niacin, black cumin seed oil, and biotin that strengthen hair follicles, according to the manufacturer’s website.
Customers on Amazon have given this product high marks and rave reviews.
Castor Oil & Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse-Out Conditioner
Apple cider vinegar shampoo is a great way to clarify your scalp, restore balance, and make your hair shine. It can also help with dryness and brittle strands. ACV shampoo comes in classic shampoo form (like the Beauty and the Bees Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo Bar) and in a rinse and scrub, like dpHUE’s Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Rinse or Scalp Scrub.
This bestselling shampoo from WOW Skin Science draws on apple cider vinegar to cleanse and cut down on buildup, while adding emollients like avocado oil and coconut oil to soothe your scalp and lock in moisture. It’s also free from common irritants, so it should be gentle enough for daily use on a range of hair types.
Biotin & Larch Tree Scalp Serum
A favorite of many reviewers, this serum contains a nourishing blend of plant-based ingredients to promote thicker hair growth. It also includes a powerful mix of antioxidants, including camellia and larch tree extracts for hair follicle nourishment, as well as pro-vitamin B5 for hydration.
Designed to work at night, this scalp treatment uses a powerful formula of advanced hair science and natural stimulating ingredients to create the best possible environment for healthy scalp and strands. It features 2% Swiss apple stem cells that have been clinically proven to reduce shedding and elongate the hair’s growth phase.
Grow Gorgeous For Chemically Treated Hair
For those who are battling thin hair due to chemical treatments, Grow Gorgeous has an amazing line of shampoos, conditioners, and treatments that help stimulate growth. These products are infused with natural ingredients that promote healthy hair and scalp, and they are formulated without harmful chemicals.
The brand’s best-selling product is their Hair Density Serum, which is formulated with biotin and caffeine to encourage thicker strands. It also contains ivy, rice and burdock root extract to hydrate the scalp and help boost hair density.
Another must-try is the brand’s Balance Hair Detox trio, which purifies strands to remove product build-up and encourage new growth. The set includes a hair oil, a cleanser and a mask that nourishes curly locks for long-lasting bounce.
Nature’s Bounty Gummy Vitamins
These gummies have 2,500 mcg of biotin and 100 mg of collagen, which promotes healthy hair skin, and nails. The formula also contains Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that supports healthy skin. This supplement is made without gluten, milk, soy, yeast, and salt.
The gummies have a fruity strawberry flavor and contain the right balance of nutrients to support lustrous hair, beautiful nails, and vibrant skin. The gummies include Vitamin C and Vitamin E, which are antioxidants that contribute to healthy skin. Biotin helps thicken hair, prevents thinning, clarifies the complexion, and reduces acne.

Quick things to do to celebrate Imbolc
Okay since my Yule post was popular I made an Imbolc one since most of us are still going to be locked down lol.
1. Clean and Cleanse your space I know BOO right?? But this is the holiday for cleaning and cleansing. (Even if you hate doing this, this is like the one time a year you have a reason to do it). Time for deep cleaning!!  You know that layer of snowy dust behind your bookshelf? Time to open windows and tackle every corner. Scrub off that spot of dirt you have been putting off scrubbing. Time to steam and vacuum your carpets. Wash your bedsheets and add rosemary or juniper oil to the soap. Smoke cleanse your room with Juniper (or Rosemary). Sweep out old energy, old habits, unwanted spirits. Throw out things that do not spark joy. The time is upon us!
2. Bath Magic Along with cleansing your space, it's also the time to cleanse yourself! This is the day to have a ritual bath, the type that looks instagram worthy where you have a bunch of candles and you sit in a hot tub full of colorful soap very pleased and covered in bubbles. If you don't have a tub you can make a special scrub to anoint your entire body with and rinse it off in a shower. This is the time for face masks, feet soaks, those things you glue on your nose to painfully peel off later and fill you with a sense of relief/disgust of what was dwelling in your pores all this time, skin exfoliants, bath jellies and body creams.
Tip: I like to celebrate the eves of sabbats, so I tend to do the cleaning and cleansing stuff the evening before so there’s less of an overwhelming pressure to do everything at once. Especially since cleaning can get draining sometimes. On the day is usually spellwork, nature walks and feasting.
3. Candle Magic This is the sabbat for candles. Not just to look at how pretty they are burning on your altar rejoicing that the winter days are probably like 1 hour longer than before, but to set intentions for your dreams and aspirations!! First take a moment to meditate and ground yourself, then focus on your goals or anything you would really like to accomplish this year, big or small. When you visualizing it coming to be, then light your candle! This is also a great time for candle scrying. You can read your candle flame which can dance fiery omens of the obstacles ahead of you. Here is a helpful but general page for candle scrying.
4. Burning Bayleaves and Barrier Breaking Often when our candle spells keep going out or we receive omens that the obstacles before us are a little more difficult than anticipated, then it's time for Barrier Breaking! Write down anything you feel is holding you back on a small piece of paper. Make sure to get a fire proof dish ready. With that paper think about the obstacles before you or anything holding you back and visualize the sensation of those obstacles coming undone or you being free from it's chains. Make sure you hold on to that feeling as you light it on fire with your spell candle then set it aside on the fire dish to burn completely.
Sometimes this step may call for shadow work as the obstacles that can be holding us back isn't external but internal issues. You can divine with tarot cards to figure out the nature of this obstacle if you aren't aware of it consciously.
Lastly, Burning Bayleaves helps with wishes. You can burn them to help overcome obstacles or to bring luck and set intentions in your life. Just write what you need on the leaves, burn it with your spell candle and set it aside on the dish. Beware as some bayleaves have natural oil in them so they can ignite in a fiery whoosh!! That is usually good luck and shows that your intentions will have no problem being manifested, however, if you are not in the most fire safe area I would not recommend this activity. If you are comfortable doing fire magic and have a safe set up then you can partake in this tradition.
6. Cleansing ALL of your magical tools As this sabbat feels like a gentle awakening and fresh start, you can lay out all of your magical tools and give them a serious cleanse. You can play a cleansing frequency on youtube which could help or ring bells over to disperse any energy hanging on. If you have a smoke bundle or incense you can clease with that and bless your items.
7. Play some Music! Listening to music always helps to set the mood of the day. Here is a playlist for this sabbat!
8. Make a Feast So for a Feast for 1 it's usually just like a festive dish with a side of veggies and a nice dessert. Think about what you'd like as your main dish. For this sabbat I’ve always made an Imbolc Shepards Pie recipe. Reasons being is that I lived someplace where this time of the year was blizzard season though we were halfway done with Winter. So the pie represented the top being the potato mashed "snow" and the meat/beans layer underneath was spicy and represented the earth stirring. (Plus its cute that it's called Shepards pie cause there is a sheep/lamb theme going on but I digress..) Anyway I moved to England and this time of year feels like... very early Spring.. Like it's not really spring spring but it's like.. early pre-spring. (Seasons here in this climate are weird haha but the sabbats make sense here since the traditions were founded in this climate). So the symbolism of the Shepards Pie is a bit lost. However there are a lot of other options such as Cauliflower or Celeriac soup with cheese (or cheese less if you are vegan), winter onion soup, if you are a meat eater than lamb and sage stew (I feel like stews are a big theme here but it fits as it's winter and there is that 'fire in the belly' symbolism that fits with getting sustenance and warmth from a chalice-bowl object). Side dish can be roasted parsnips or stuffed white cabbage (it depends on the main dish). Dessert depends on if you are into cake or tarts but I always either have cheesecake or a milk sponge cake like tres leches. If you live in a snowy area a dessert I used to make would be a warm brownie with vanilla icecream as it's like "snow melt" on earth with life stirring within. Etc.
I know with lockdown and such no one is going to be seeing anyone extra in their lives anytime soon and no one may have the energy to cook a lot, but here is a list of recipes with a feast mood board to check out for ideas.
Have a lovely luminous Imbolc!!

sugawara. lives up to his title as mr. refreshing. cleanses, tones, and moisturizes. !chefs kiss! keeps a jar of aloe vera face gel in his fridge, his mom had a spare. carries around a 100-sheet pack of oil film, more out of habit than of need. good skincare just makes him feel in control of his life, ok
ennoshita. fuckin’ spotless. part of the 0.0001% who don’t sweat easily. doesn’t have a complete regimen but never skips out on cleansing and toning before bed. actually reads the product ingredients and googles the benefits before buying. neutrogena type of guy.
asahi. facial scrubs are his holy grail. like. dead skin? stubborn hair follicles? haha not on his watch ヾ( ・`⌓´・)ノ゙ trims his goatee every 3-4 week bc a well-groomed beard goes hand in hand with proper skincare. a sucker for aromatic products. lavender? shea butter? SOLD.
daichi. “healthy lifestyle is key to healthy skin“ typa dude. rly just thinks natural is the way to go. drinks 8 glasses of water, eats his veggies, exercises regularly, gets 8 hours of sleep. sounds like smth off wikihow if u ask me. probably is.
tsukishima. cetaphil hoe. brand loyalty embodied. on it for 5++ years, and never once considered switching. BUT. his routine ends at step 1. cleanse. and that’s it. the fuck he need a 32 step skincare routine for? long as he gets a day’s worth of grime and dirt off his face, he gucci
yamaguchi. sensitive skin’s got him constantly changing/exploring different products. rode on tsukki’s cetaphil agenda for the first few years of puberty (rly just out of curiousity) but dropped out when his skin got used to it. thinks pimple patches are a blessing to mankind.
tanaka. fuck. chaotic greasy. asks for oil film from suga just to stick it on his forehead, lets it stay there. uses whatever’s in the bathroom to wash off, aka majority of saeko’s products. got yelled at once to “get his greasy ass over here” and got slabbed with aztec healing clay mask. converted to clay mask hoe after 20 minutes. “mm this shit’s dope!”
nishinoya. fuck. chaotic greasy part ii. but make it baby face. only does skincare when chillin at the tanakas. homie got him to try the clay mask bc chick’s dig that. “bro, u mean the mask or boys who do the mask?” “both bro” “awshit bro gimme that” thinks splashing some water twice a week is enough
kageyama. ? this yalls mans? oblivious to the whole concept of skincare, only acknowledges general hygiene. uses whatever’s on the soap holder to wash his face. probably dove. doesnt really have much skin problems to begin with, only breaks out once a year. living proof that god has favorites.
hinata. only started taking skincare seriously that time a huge ass zit grew on his chin. yachi offered him her unfinished bottle of cosrx (she’s a hoarder and u kno it), and has since been giving him all her leftover bottles. basically gets to use good quality products for free smh
nekoma
kuroo. not very big on the idea of skincare per se, but supports any brand on that cruelty-free and vegan agenda. reads the product ingredients like a children’s book. “mm phenoxyethanol and retinyl palmitate.. i’ll take it.” always leaves the saleslady stunned.
kenma. too lazy to adopt a routine. but regularly uses his mom’s facial wash. you know. those mom brands. has a stash of facemasks from lev’s trip to korea —> only form of skincare he actually appreciates bc he can simultaneously play his games and be all bout dat self care
lev. abuses his perks of having a sister. casually uses all alisa’s imported, high end stuff. la prairie. estee lauder. la mer. and she doesn’t mind bc her “levochka deserves all the finest things”. boujee ass russians
yaku. baby face. when god made it rain collagen, he was freestylin in a pool full of it while we was all sleepin. doesn’t exert much effort, just cleanses and tones bc it’s part of proper hygiene. girls envy him. parents in their 40s wanna be him.
seijoh
oikawa. SKINCARE HOE KING. fuckin high maintenance. goes to the derma for his monthly laser facial treatment. on broke days, he settles for a diamond peel. skin so smooth it puts the entire female population to shame. spends his savings on those clinique eye creams. probably modeled for the face shop once
iwaizumi. homie reeks of male cleanser. might either dove men or nivea men. there’s no in between. oikawa internally screams everytime he witnesses his bff wash his face. two words. aggressive. rubbing. bordering on hostile he might actually skin his face off
mattsun and makki. fuck. drugstore cleansers. the ones that come in sachets. agreed to take turns in buying bundles for sharing. sometimes sneaks a pinch from oikawa’s clinique products when he’s not looking. haha dumb hoe. may have an addiction to charcoal nose pore strips just so they can compare blackheads
fukurodani
bokuto. buys whatever’s on sale idfk. genuinely wants to get on kuroo’s go green agenda but too lazy to look around the store. normally just uses the bubbles from his soap or shampoo. his belief: if it cleans his hands and his ass, then it can fuckin clean his face too
akaashi. healthy lifestyle + decent regimen = pretty skin. cleanses and tones. tried his mom’s aloe vera face gel once and got hooked. shit’s relaxing as hell. owns a bunch of facemasks, sometimes uses but keeps forgetting to take them off before falling asleep. uwu af
dateko
futakuchi. doesn’t have a routine cause “who tf needs that” and “obviously not me.” or so he says. secretly the biggest spender on skincare in all of dateko. owns a bunch of anti wrinkle products and probably one of those jade rollers. but no one needs to know that. just wants everyone to think he’s naturally pretty
aone. told by futakuchi that “knitting your brows too much causes premature wrinkles, but not like i’m an expert on that hhhahaha dont get me wrong.” can’t rly do anything bout it. he was born with that face. also buys whatever’s on sale
shiratorizawa
ushijima. surprisingly blemish free? but not entirely smooth? just spotless? basically a rock? never went past step 1: cleanse. never realized he’s been skipping out the 31 next steps. cetaphil hoe.
tendou. dry. crusty. compensates by sweating a lot through practice. might be effective if he’d stop leaving the foam on longer than recommended, thus leaving his skin dryer than his love life. yeah, i went there.
shirabu. flawless at first glance. until you lift those uneven ass bangs. tbh its nothing serious except “are we gonna ignore the fact that his whiteheads follow the shape of his bangs” as pointed out by tendou. uses whatever cleanser his mom buys for him
semi. decent skin care routine. a big boy who’s fairly knowledgeable on other brands outside cetaphil and dove/garnier/nivea men. takes him less than 5 minutes to pick a product bc he’s tried them all, knows what works, knows his skin type in and out. stan semi for clear skin.
