surprise!
vanessa shelly x reader
tw: none really, slight mention of william afton killing kids
a/n: this is really random but i love the way vanessa says "frickin'" in the movie so i included it in this fic
================================================
You scanned the room around you one last time, checking that everything was in place as planned.
Gold and white balloons adorned every corner, streamers hung off the ceiling, and a romantic candle-lit dinner was prepared on the dining table. The only thing missing was the subject of celebration, who you suspected should be arriving any moment now.
"Happy birthday!" You cried out as Vanessa finally stepped through the front door. She was immediately taken aback; however, her expression quickly became one of joy.
"What is all this, Y/N? You didn't have to!"
You knew that Vanessa didn't like to make a big deal out of her birthday. Hell, you weren't even sure if she remembered that today was her special day, with the way she never mentioned it (in fact, the only reason you knew her birthday was because of that singular time it slipped into the conversation when you were just a month into dating).
"Nessa, babe. I know you have a hard time celebrating yourself, but today is your day, so let me help you feel special, m'kay?" You helped her out of her work gear and guided her to the dining table. Arranged was a variety of all her favourite dishes, alongside a vase of roses. You gave a shy laugh; the food had taken you several attempts before it was satisfactory. "I'm not the best cook, but I tried my best."
"God, I don't even know what to say," Vanessa couldn't suppress the grin that stretched across her face. "Thank you so much, my love. You are the sweetest frickin' angel ever."
One hand cupped your cheek and the other found its home on your waist as she pulled you in for a kiss, her cherry flavoured-lips fitting perfectly against your own. She smelled amazing, like an elixir of vanilla and jasmine that you had now associated with warmth and comfort.
"How about we eat before the food gets cold, and continue this later?" You whispered when you finally pulled apart for air, your face a centimetre away from hers.
"You're right. I gotta see if I should make you do all the cooking from now on."
Dinner was filled with laughter, flirty exchanges, and your girlfriend complimenting your culinary skills. You swore that your face was bright red by the end of it, with her praises and the way she made you giggle till you couldn't breathe.
"Alright, alright, if you thought the steak was good, just wait till you see the cake," you got up and proudly made your way to the fridge.
"There's cake too? You're going to put me into a food coma!"
"Wouldn't be a birthday without a cake. Made it myself too," the excitement in your voice was evident as you set down a colourful cake on the table. Vanessa gasped as she took a closer look.
On the cake was your best attempt at drawing you, Vanessa, and the four animatronics in icing. You were definitely not a professional artist, but your years of art lessons as a kid paid off, if you said so yourself. It was a depiction of your girlfriend's favourite picture: one taken at the pizzeria while the six of you danced to music, Vanessa in your arms as the animatronics looked on with joy (as best as they could, in their robotic ways).
You looked to her for approval, but were alarmed when you were met with her tear-streaked face instead.
She caught you staring in concern and buried her face in her hands, shoulders trembling as she sobbed. You had rarely seen Vanessa cry like this, not even after almost getting murdered by her own father.
"Vanessa? What's wrong, sweetheart?" You wrapped an arm around her, thumb rubbing her shoulder comfortingly.
"I'm sorry," she lifted her head to look up at you with teary eyes. It was astounding how beautiful she looked, despite her smudged mascara and red puffy eyes. "I'm not sad, I promise. It's just, as cheesy as this sounds, no one has ever made me feel this important before. I think you're the first person in this world that has ever loved me like this."
"Baby," you kissed her forehead, on the verge of crying yourself.
"And I can see that you put in so much effort to learn all these little details about me, not to mention the time you must have spent putting this whole thing together. Y/N- fuck, I feel like I don't deserve you."
You rested your head on the nape of her neck, your hand finding hers to interlace your fingers together,
"The last time I had a birthday party, I was eight," she continued with a sniffle. "And,"
A sigh interrupted her sentence, and you could guess that this next part was hard for her to say:
"You know, when there’s a bunch of unsuspecting, innocent children around, my father...h-he takes advantage of that. I begged him to never have a birthday party again after that, because though I might not have been able to stop him, I couldn't bear to be an accomplice to his crimes."
Vanessa's father really messed her up----that much you knew----but it still broke your heart every time you heard her speak about it.
"What he did will never be your fault, Nessa. I love you more than you know, and I need you to know that you deserve nothing but the best."
She cracked a weak smile. "Okay, okay, enough sob stories. I want to be in a good mood when we cut this gorgeous cake of yours."
"You know what, I have something else that may be able to cheer you up." You shook your head in amusement. "Don't you wanna see the presents I got you?"
From behind the living room couch, you grabbed a large gift bag and presented it to her.
And oh did she love it. She couldn’t stop squealing in excitement as she opened your present: a book that was on her reading list, a candle with her favourite scent, a gold necklace that you caught her eyeing at the jewelry store, and a photo album filled with pictures of the two of you.
The cherry on top was a heartfelt card that brought tears to her eyes, once again.
“And also,” you began to unbutton the top of your blouse, allowing her to catch a glimpse of the hot pink lingerie underneath. “A bonus gift.”
“Holy shit, I really am spoiled!”

"Pancake Date."
With all the angst, I needed a little bit of a breather. So, here's a fluffy one-shot with pre-established Schmelly (Mike x Vanessa).
--
“It’s your birthday?” Vanessa asks, frowning. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
They sit across from one another at the tiny table in the security office. It had been a quiet night so far - the animatronics keeping to the main lobby and the stage. So, the threat of death-on a one to ten scale (with one being they are under no threat of death, and ten being, if they sneeze, they die)-is currently about a five, maybe six.
Mike crosses his arms, half-asleep. Or at the very least, he looks half-asleep. The dark bags under his eyes only ever seem to get darker as time goes on. It never ceases to amaze Vanessa how he can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. The fact that she (continually) warns him about this place doesn’t seem to bother his sleeping habits.
“Because it’s not important.” He shifts in the office chair. “Besides, it’s two in the morning. What can I possibly do in the morning?”
“Dunno….oh!” Vanessa's face lights up. “I can sing you the Fazbear birthday song.”
Mike shrinks down. “Please, god, no.” Quickly he adds, “though, I’m sure you have a great singing voice.”
“Oh, come on, don’t you want to hear the famous Fazbear birthday song?
Mike sends her an annoyed look (though, knowing him, maybe that’s just his natural resting face).
“Hm….can I at least take you out for breakfast?”
He frowns. “I have to be home by 8:30. I promised Max I would be home by then, and she already thinks I’m unreliable.”
It breaks Vanessa’s heart that-no matter how hard he tries-in the eyes of Mike’s (very limited) support system, his efforts will never be good enough. It shouldn’t be all on his shoulders, but it is. And she knows, without a doubt, Mike will do whatever he has to, to keep his little sister from being taken away.
“She could come with us,” Vanessa offers. Over the time she’s known Mike (which, to be fair, hasn’t been very long) Abby has become something like a little sister to her. So, it feels less like she’s ‘tagging along’ and more like a ‘no-duh’ decision.
“I can’t afford to go out right now. Money is really tight.” He looks almost….sad? Regretful? But probably not for himself. Mike is someone that has long since given up on caring. Caring for himself, but not caring for his sister. A realization sets in. He’s sad, because he knows Abby would enjoy going out to eat, and he can’t give that to her.
Vanessa gives him a gentle smile. Without thinking, she says, “I’ll pay for both of you. Think of it as a birthday present.”
Mike chews his bottom lip, considering her words. “Okay,” he says, after a solid minute of thinking.
“Great,” she says, a pleased smile forming on her face. “I know just the place.”
-x-x-x-
After swinging over to his house to pick-up Abby, Mike meets her at the restaurant. A little diner smooshed between a used bookstore and a tire repair shop. The sign is faded with age and the windows are covered in dust. Vanessa’s almost impressed it’s still open.
They find a seat in a booth towards the back of the diner. Abby sits near the window, and Mike slides in next to her. Vanessa sits across from them, a little jittery from the copious amounts of coffee she drank last night.
“My mom used to bring me and my brother here all the time. They have the best pancakes.” She can still taste the delight concoctions her and her brother would order into their pancakes. The waitress and cooks must have thought they were insane.
Abby’s eyes light up. “Pancakes?” She asks. “Can I get whip cream and sprinkles?”
“Abby,” Mike starts, “we can’t ask-”
Vanessa interrupts him. “Of course you can. Do you want chocolate milk with it?”
Abby nods, smiling big. “Yes, please.”
Mike mouths, “thank you.”
Again, Vanessa’s heart breaks for the two people across from her. So, she mouths back, “don’t mention it.”
-x-x-x-
The food is just as good as she remembers it. Thankfully, for once, childhood nostalgia hadn’t steered her wrong.
“Thank you, Vanessa,” Mike says.
“Yeah, thanks, Vanessa,” Abby tells her, hugging Vanessa. “The food was really good.” She looks back at her brother. “And I think you made my brother happy. He really likes you.”
Mike claps. “O-kay, time to go.”
“I think you guys should get married- hey!”
Mike pulls her to the car. “Kids say the darndest things, don’t they?” He laughs, but there is undeniably panic in his eyes. “Thanks again, I’ll see you tomorrow night.”
Abby waves at her, a mischievous smile on her face.
Vanessa waves back, watching them leave.
An excited, almost giddy feeling wells up in her chest. She walks to her car, the caffeine high she’s been on since eleven last night has started to lessen, but Vanessa hardly notices. Her heart continues to beat fast, and it’s hard to see her face in any of the mirrors at this angle, but she’s confident it’s bright red.
On the way home, all she can think is:
he likes me.
And maybe that’s childish of her, to dwell on that thought. It’s just a stupid crush, but for some reason, she can’t stop thinking about it. Vanessa is a fairly logical person. Outside of ghosts in an abandoned pizzeria, she holds herself to a certain standard of intelligence.
But maybe, for once, it would be okay to have this one little thing. Even if Mike doesn’t actually like her, it wouldn’t hurt to hold that feeling close to her chest. He’ll be gone or dead within the week.
Her heart clenches painfully, at the thought of Mike being dead. The thought of him being beyond her reach, just like her brother, makes Vanessa want to scream at the top of her lungs. She wants him to stay with her, for as long as possible.
Which means, she can’t let him win. Contract or not, Vanessa will save Mike.
Even if it costs Vanessa her life.

“Ugh, I'm so hot.”
You whine as you fan yourself with your hand while lying on your stomach.
The sun was already starting to set, yet the heat felt like you could melt at any moment.
“Damn right, you are!”
“Vanessa, that's not what I meant!”
You lightly shoulder your girlfriend, who loves to playfully tease you. She was also slowly dying from the sweltering heat.
You only moved in two weeks ago, and everything was already going south.
A pipe busted on the day you settled in, then a few days later the heater burned out, and now the air conditioner is broken.
Nothing but a walking bad luck charm.
You mentally scold yourself. That's what you were—nothing but a walking bad luck charm. Yet somehow you managed to get a girlfriend like Vanessa.
You sigh as you feel the breeze from the fan hit your face.
The position was uncomfortable, but being able to lay next to Vanessa was worth it.
“I have an idea.”
Vanessa shoots up from the bed and makes her way out of the room in a rush.
“Nessy?!”
You call out to her as you quickly follow her.
You walk into the kitchen to find her head in the freezer. You snicker at the sight.
"That desperate to cool off, huh?”
You laugh as you walk beside her, trying to feel the coolness on your skin.
"So, what was your grand idea?”
You chuckle as you cross your arms, admiring your girlfriend and her antics.
“Doll, what time is it?”
Vanessa asks, her head still in the freezer.
“6:12 PM”
Just as you finished reading off the time, Vanessa sprints to the bedroom and then back to you, her keys jingling in hand.
“What's your favorite ice cream flavor?”
She holds your face in her hands as you tell her your favorite flavor before kissing your lips and giving you a soft smile.
“I'll be back before you know it, doll!”
“Wait van-”
Before you can finish, she's already out the door.
You were confused by her spontaneous outburst, but unbeknownst to her, she had given you an idea, and you had to be quick.
You head to the garage in search of a tent, a light source, and blankets. Luckily, she had some supplies in her survival stash.
Once you have everything, you head to the backyard.
You haven't taken a peek at the backyard yet. It was overrun by wildflowers, but it was surprisingly nicely kept.
The flowers were beautiful; they covered the grass like a blanket of snow.
And then a lightbulb went off. You had another idea.
You quickly begin setting up the tent, the blankets, and, lastly, the lights.
By the time you were done, the sun had completely set, and just as you were about to stand back and admire your work, Vanessa called for you.
“Welcome back!”
You shout as you make your way back inside, greeting her with a kiss.
You notice one hand is holding a grocery bag with ice cream, her other hand is occupied by her keys, and another bag?
“I bought us some-are those lights outside?”
Vanessa peaks over your shoulder and looks towards the backyard. You quickly block her view and lead her to the kitchen, helping her unload the bags.
Before you can open the smaller bag, Vanessa snatches it out of your hand and holds it behind you as she pins you to the counter.
“Ness!”
You gasp as she stares at you, still hovering the bag behind your head.
“Serve us some ice cream; I'll get right back!”
You could practically hear her purring in your ear before she took her leave.
Vanessa always knew how to get you flustered.
You stood in place as you tried to catch your breath.
Once your heart rate slows down, you take some bowls and begin to serve ice cream.
She went all out.
You thought to yourself as you inspected the other items. Vanessa not only bought ice cream but also syrups and toppings. She really enjoys spoiling you, and she tends to go overboard as a way to show off.
“Hey.”
Vanessa sneaks up behind you, which makes you jump.
She giggles at your sudden reaction and embraces you. You smile as she kisses your cheek and inspects the bowls.
“I got them ready! How do they look?”
You ask as you proudly present your frozen creations.
“They look beautiful! But I think you're holding back on the sprinkles. You can't have ice cream without sprinkles!”
You both laugh at Vanessa's little sprinkle lecture.
You agree and add more sprinkles for both. Vanessa's still holding you in a tight embrace.
“And about those lights?”
She whispers in your ear, and part of you is hoping nothing will go wrong.
But with your current track record, a fire starting wouldn't be surprising.
“It's a surprise! Open the back door, please!”
You exclaim as you grab the bowls and make your way to the backyard.
“a surprise?”
Vanessa raises a brow as she makes her way to open the door, her excitement is evident.
“Tadaaaaa!!”
You motioned to the surprise you had worked on while she was gone.
You quickly set the bowls down on the mini-floor table next to the tent before you rub your hands to warm them up from holding the cold bowls.
Vanessa looks around and soaks in the beautiful scenery before her.
The tent was lopsided, but it was sturdy enough to be used.
There was a string of decorative lights that decorated the tent.
Your makeshift projector made Vanessa chuckle as tears threatened to spill from her eyes as she stood there in awe.
You did all this just for her.
"Nessy, the ice cream!”
You take Vanessa's hand and lead her to the blankets, motioning for her to sit.
Once Vanessa is seated, you tell her to close her eyes as you reach into the tent.
Once she closes them, you grab what you're looking for.
“Open!”
Vanessa gasps when she sees the flower crowns you made.
You had placed yours on your head, and you held out hers.
“Love… you didn't-”
Her voice breaks as she fights back tears. You place the flower crown on her head and kiss her cheek.
“You make me so happy, and I know I'm a walking bad luck charm.”
You pause and take her hands in yours before you continue.
“I'm really sorry for all the disasters that happened in the short time I've lived here. Thank you for choosing me.”
You smile at her as you now fight back tears.
However, happiness is replaced by confusion once Vanessa begins to laugh.
“Walking bad luck charm?”
Vanessa sniffles as she wipes her tears and places her hand back in yours.
“You can't blame yourself for those things! Besides, our landlord was good for nothing, and everything was covered due to his negligence!”
Vanessa tries to reassure you, but now you are more confused than before.
“What? I-I thought you paid for everything and-”
Vanessa kisses you as a way to shut you up before she begins to reassure you again.
“My life has changed so much since we met, I've felt alive for the first time in years. And that's something no one can take away… not even HIM.”
You shiver slightly at who she is referring to. You were about to speak, but Vanessa beat you to it.
“So no, you're not a walking bad luck charm. In fact, you're a walking good luck charm. My good luck charm.”
Vanessa places a soft but loving kiss on your lips.
You could taste your salty tears in the kiss, but you didn't mind, and neither did she. The raw emotion just added to the moment, and you couldn't be happier to have someone that you felt safe enough around to let your walls down.
Vanessa breaks the kiss and holds your face in her hands.
“Better not use your good luck powers on anyone else.”
She mutters, and you chuckle as you shake your head.
“I wouldn't DREAM of it! But now it's time to enjoy the show.”
You stand as you make your way to the projector that Vanessa had completely forgotten about owning and turn it on.
Quickly, you make your way back to your seat before the movie starts, and finally, you begin eating your half-melted ice cream.
As the night goes on, the movie is almost done and finally getting to the best part.
Vanessa gasps. You paid no mind to it at first, as you thought it was her reaction to the reveal.
You glance over and realize she's looking at you.
“Don't move!”
She whispers before reaching towards your flower crown and showing you the little ladybug that had taken refuge in the flowers.
“See? Ladybugs are a sign of good luck!”
Vanessa holds the little bug to her face, admiring it before it flies off, and in turn, you admire her. The lights reflected off of her face, making her look angelic.
“Ness, you weren't paying attention to the movie, were you?”
You playfully tease her, and before you can turn your attention back to the movie, Vanessa holds out a small box in your favorite color.
It was a beautiful and expensive-looking box held together by a neatly tied ribbon.
She opens the box and reveals an even more expensive-looking necklace. You cover your mouth with your hand, not expecting her sudden surprise.
“Allow me to make a proper speech?”
Vanessa playfully asks, making you softly laugh.
“Speech away!”
“I know you feel like your luck might run out, but I can assure you that to me, you're the greatest thing that's happened. This necklace,”
Vanessa motions for you to turn around, and you obey, now holding the necklace in place as she begins to fasten it around your neck.
“is a symbol of all the light and joy you bring into my life. Every time you wear it, I want you to remember how much you mean to me and how lucky I am to have you by my side. I want this to last forever.”
“Vanessa…”
You begin to sob as she holds you. The movie has now been forgotten as you both begin to lose yourselves in your own little world.
Sometime throughout the night, you both fell asleep in the tent.
You begin to wake up as the sun rays kiss your face, and you find yourself trapped in Vanessa's arms.
“I love you so much.”
You whisper as you make yourself comfortable again, careful not to disturb her sleep.
Vanessa smiles and whispers back.
“I love you too, my lucky charm.”
“You were awake?!”
You loudly whisper and poke her check.
“I've been awake this whole time. My arm is numb…”
You hold back your laughter as you shuffle to a new position comfortable for the both of you, and you begin to drift off again.
“We should do this again.”
Vanessa whispers, and you can only nod in response as your body becomes heavy.
You go back to sleep feeling like the luckiest person in the world.
